A quantum network provides an infrastructure connecting quantum devices with revolutionary computing, sensing, and communication capabilities. As the best-known application of a quantum network, quantum key distribution (QKD) shares secure keys guaranteed by the laws of quantum mechanics. A quantum satellite constellation offers a solution to facilitate the quantum network on a global scale. The Micius satellite has verified the feasibility of satellite quantum communications, however, scaling up quantum satellite constellations is challenging, requiring small lightweight satellites, portable ground stations and real-time secure key exchange. Here we tackle these challenges and report the development of a quantum microsatellite capable of performing space-to-ground QKD using portable ground stations. The quantum microsatellite features a payload weighing approximately 23 kg, while the portable ground station weighs about 100 kg. These weights represent reductions by more than an order and two orders of magnitude, respectively, compared to the Micius satellite. Additionally, we multiplex bidirectional satellite-ground optical communication with quantum communication, enabling key distillation and secure communication in real-time. Using the microsatellite and the portable ground stations, we demonstrate satellite-based QKD with multiple ground stations and achieve the sharing of up to 0.59 million bits of secure keys during a single satellite pass. Single-photon sources are essential for quantum networks, enabling applications ranging from quantum key distribution (QKD) to the burgeoning quantum internet. Despite the remarkable advancements, the current reliance of QKD on attenuated coherent (laser) light sources has imposed a fundamental limit on the secret key rate (SKR). This constraint is primarily attributable to the scarcity of single-photon components within coherent light, confined by an inherent upper bound of 1/e. Here, we report high-rate QKD using a high-efficiency single-photon source, enabling an SKR transcending the fundamental rate limit of coherent light. We developed an on-demand, bright semiconductor quantum-dot single-photon source with an efficiency of 0.71(2), exceeding the inherent bound of coherent light by approximately 2.87 dB. Implementing narrow-bandwidth filtering and random polarization modulation, we conducted a field QKD trial over a 14.6(1.1)-dB-loss free-space urban channel, achieving an SKR of 0.00108 bits per pulse. This surpasses the practical limit of coherent-light-based QKD by 2.53 dB. To realize large-scale quantum information processes, an ideal scheme for two-qubit operations should enable diverse operations with given hardware and physical interaction. However, for spin qubits in semiconductor quantum dots, the common two-qubit operations, including CPhase gates, SWAP gates, and CROT gates, are realized with distinct parameter regions and control waveforms, posing challenges for their simultaneous implementation. Here, taking advantage of the inherent Heisenberg interaction between spin qubits, we propose and verify a fast composite two-qubit gate scheme to extend the available two-qubit gate types as well as reduce the requirements for device properties. Apart from the formerly proposed CPhase (controlled-phase) gates and SWAP gates, theoretical results indicate that the iSWAP-family gate and Fermionic simulation (fSim) gate set are additionally available for spin qubits. Meanwhile, our gate scheme limits the parameter requirements of all essential two-qubit gates to a common J~{\Delta}E_Z region, facilitate the simultaneous realization of them. Furthermore, we present the preliminary experimental demonstration of the composite gate scheme, observing excellent match between the measured and simulated results. With this versatile composite gate scheme, broad-spectrum two-qubit operations allow us to efficiently utilize the hardware and the underlying physics resources, helping accelerate and broaden the scope of the upcoming noise intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computing., Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures

Objective: Randomized controlled trial (RCT) results often inform clinical decision-making, but the highly curated populations of trials and the care provided during the trial are often not reflective of real-world practice. The objective of this scoping review is to identify the ability of methods to transport findings from RCTs to target populations. Study design: A scoping review was conducted on the literature focusing on the transportability of the results from RCTs to observational cohorts. Each study was assessed based on the methodology used for transportability and the extent to which the treatment effect from the RCT was estimated in the target population in observational data. Results: A total of 15 published papers were included. The research topics include cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, psychiatry, oncology, orthopedics, anesthesiology, and hematology. These studies show that the findings from RCTs could be translated to real-world settings, with varying degrees of effect size and precision. In some cases, the estimated treatment effect for the target population were statistically significantly different from those in RCTs. Conclusion: Despite variations in the magnitude of effects between RCTs and real-world studies, transportability methods play an important role in effectively bridging the RCTs and real-world care delivery, offering valuable insights for evidence-based medicine.

With one- and two-qubit gate fidelities approaching the fault-tolerance threshold for spin qubits in silicon, how to scale up the architecture and make large arrays of spin qubits become the more pressing challenges. In a scaled-up structure, qubit-to-qubit connectivity has crucial impact on gate counts of quantum error correction and general quantum algorithms. In our toolbox of quantum gates for spin qubits, SWAP gate is quite versatile: it can help solve the connectivity problem by realizing both short- and long-range spin state transfer, and act as a basic two-qubit gate, which can reduce quantum circuit depth when combined with other two-qubit gates. However, for spin qubits in silicon quantum dots, high fidelity SWAP gates have not been demonstrated due to the requirements of large circuit bandwidth and a highly adjustable ratio between the strength of the exchange coupling J and the Zeeman energy difference Delta E_z. Here we demonstrate a fast SWAP gate with a duration of ~25 ns based on quantum dots in isotopically enriched silicon, with a highly adjustable ratio between J and Delta E_z, for over two orders of magnitude in our device. We are also able to calibrate the single-qubit local phases during the SWAP gate by incorporating single-qubit gates in our circuit. By independently reading out the qubits, we probe the anti-correlations between the two spins, estimate the operation fidelity and analyze the dominant error sources for our SWAP gate. These results pave the way for high fidelity SWAP gates, and processes based on them, such as quantum communication on chip and quantum simulation by engineering the Heisenberg Hamiltonian in silicon., Comment: 25 pages, 5 figures

Preserving qubit coherence and maintaining high-fidelity qubit control under complex noise environment is an enduring challenge for scalable quantum computing. Here we demonstrate an addressable fault-tolerant single spin qubit with an average control fidelity of 99.12% via randomized benchmarking on a silicon quantum dot device with an integrated micromagnet. Its dephasing time T2* is 1.025 us and can be enlarged to 264 us by using the Hahn echo technique, reflecting strong low-frequency noise in our system. To break through the noise limitation, we introduce geometric quantum computing to obtain high control fidelity by exploiting its noise-resilient feature. However, the control fidelities of the geometric quantum gates are lower than 99%. According to our simulation, the noise-resilient feature of geometric quantum gates is masked by the heating effect. With further optimization to alleviate the heating effect, geometric quantum computing can be a potential approach to reproducibly achieving high-fidelity qubit control in a complex noise environment., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures

We investigate the two loop electroweak corrections to B meson rare decays $\bar B\rightarrow X_s\gamma$ and $B_s^0\rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-$ in the minimal supersymmetry standard model (MSSM) extension with two triplets and one singlet (TNMSSM). The new particle contents and interactions in the TNMSSM can affect the theoretical predictions of the branching ratios ${\rm Br}(\bar B\rightarrow X_s\gamma)$ and ${\rm Br}(B_s^0\rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-)$, and the corrections from two loop diagrams to the process $\bar B\rightarrow X_s\gamma$ can reach around $4\%$. Considering the latest experimental measurements, the numerical results of ${\rm Br}(\bar B\rightarrow X_s\gamma)$ and ${\rm Br}(B_s^0\rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-)$ in the TNMSSM are presented and analyzed. It is found that the results in the TNMSSM can fit the updated experimental data well and the new parameters $T_{\lambda},\;\kappa,\;\lambda$ affect the theoretical predictions of ${\rm Br}(\bar B\rightarrow X_s\gamma)$ and ${\rm Br}(B_s^0\rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-)$ obviously.

High-fidelity singlet-triplet state readout is essential for large-scale quantum computing. However, the widely used threshold method of comparing a mean value with the fixed threshold will limit the judgment accuracy, especially for the relaxed triplet state, under the restriction of relaxation time and signal-to-noise ratio. Here, we achieve an enhanced latching readout based on Pauli spin blockade in a Si-MOS double quantum dot device and demonstrate an average singlet-triplet state readout fidelity of 97.59% by the threshold method. We reveal the inherent deficiency of the threshold method for the relaxed triplet state classification and introduce machine learning as a relaxation-independent readout method to reduce the misjudgment. The readout fidelity for classifying the simulated single-shot traces can be improved to 99.67% by machine learning method, better than the threshold method of 97.54% which is consistent with the experimental result. This work indicates that machine learning method can be a strong potential candidate for alleviating the restrictions of stably achieving high-fidelity and high-accuracy singlet-triplet state readout in large-scale quantum computing., Comment: 11 pages,11 figures

Pulse distortion, as one of the coherent error sources, hinders the characterization and control of qubits. In the semiconductor quantum dot system, the distortions on measurement pulses and control pulses disturb the experimental results, while no effective calibration procedure has yet been reported. Here, we demonstrate two different calibration methods to calibrate and correct the distortion using the two-qubit system as a detector. The two calibration methods have different correction accuracy and complexity. One is the coarse predistortion (CPD) method, with which the distortion is partly relieved. The other method is the all predistortion (APD) method, with which we measure the transfer function and significantly improve the exchange oscillation homogeneity. The two methods use the exchange oscillation homogeneity as the metric and are appropriate for any qubit that oscillates with a diabatic pulse. With the APD procedure, an arbitrary control waveform can be accurately delivered to the device, which is essential for characterizing qubits and improving gate fidelity., Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures

The precise measurement of the W boson mass is closely related to the contributions of new physics (NP), which can significantly constrain the parameter space of NP models, particularly those with an additional $U(1)$ local gauge group. The inclusion of a new $Z'$ gauge boson and gauge couplings in these models can contribute to the oblique parameters $S$, $T$, $U$ and W boson mass at tree level. Taking into account the effects of kinetic mixing, we calculate and analyze the oblique parameters $S$, $T$, $U$ and W boson mass in such NP models in this study. It is found that the kinetic mixing effects can make significant contributions to the W boson mass, which can satisfy the recently measured W boson mass at CDF II or ATLAS by choosing appropriate values of gauge coupling constants and extra $U(1)$ group charges of leptons or scalar doublets. In addition, if the leptonic Yukawa couplings are invariant under the extra $U(1)$ local gauge group, these contributions can be eliminated by redefining the gauge boson fields through eliminating the neutral currents involving charged leptons, even with nonzero kinetic mixing effects., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures

Quantum key distribution (QKD) can provide fundamentally proven security for secure communication. Toward application, the secret key rate (SKR) is a key figure of merit for any QKD system. So far, the SKR has been limited to about a few megabit-per-second. Here we report a QKD system that is able to generate key at a record high SKR of 115.8 Mb/s over 10-km standard fibre, and to distribute key over up to 328 km of ultra-low-loss fibre. This attributes to a multi-pixel superconducting nanowire single-photon detector with ultrahigh counting rate, an integrated transmitter that can stably encode polarization states with low error, a fast post-processing algorithm for generating key in real time and the high system clock-rate operation. The results demonstrate the feasibility of practical high-rate QKD with photonic techniques, thus opening its possibility for widespread applications.

The single-shot readout data process is essential for the realization of high-fidelity qubits and fault-tolerant quantum algorithms in semiconductor quantum dots. However, the fidelity and visibility of the readout process is sensitive to the choice of the thresholds and limited by the experimental hardware. By demonstrating the linear dependence between the measured spin state probabilities and readout visibilities along with dark counts, we describe an alternative threshold-independent method for the single-shot readout of spin qubits in semiconductor quantum dots. We can obtain the extrapolated spin state probabilities of the prepared probabilities of the excited spin state through the threshold-independent method. Then, we analyze the corresponding errors of the method, finding that errors of the extrapolated probabilities cannot be neglected with no constraints on the readout time and threshold voltage. Therefore, by limiting the readout time and threshold voltage we ensure the accuracy of the extrapolated probability. Then, we prove that the efficiency and robustness of this method is 60 times larger than that of the most commonly used method. Moreover, we discuss the influence of the electron temperature on the effective area with a fixed external magnetic field and provide a preliminary demonstration for a single-shot readout up to 0.7 K/1.5T in the future., Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures

Quantum key distribution (QKD) uses the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics to share unconditionally secure keys between distant users. Previous works based on the quantum science satellite "Micius" have initially demonstrated the feasibility of a global QKD network. However, the practical applications of space-based QKD still face many technical problems, such as the huge size and weight of ground stations required to receive quantum signals. Here, we report space-to-ground QKD demonstrations based on portable receiving ground stations. The weight of the portable ground station is less than 100 kg, the space required is less than 1 m$^{3}$ and the installation time requires no more than 12 hours, all of the weight, required space and deployment time are about two orders of magnitude lower than those for the previous systems. Moreover, the equipment is easy to handle and can be placed on the roof of buildings in a metropolis. Secure keys have been successfully generated from the "Micius" satellite to these portable ground stations at six different places in China, and an average final secure key length is around 50 kb can be obtained during one passage. Our results pave the way for, and greatly accelerate the practical application of, space-based QKD.

Optical clock networks play important roles in various fields, such as precise navigation, redefinition of "second" unit, and gravitational tests. To establish a global-scale optical clock network, it is essential to disseminate time and frequency with a stability of $10^{-19}$ over a long-distance free-space link. However, such attempts were limited to dozens of kilometers in mirror-folded configuration. Here, we take a crucial step toward future satellite-based time-frequency disseminations. By developing the key technologies, including high-power frequency combs, high-stability and high-efficiency optical transceiver systems, and efficient linear optical sampling, we demonstrate free-space time-frequency dissemination over two independent links with femtosecond time deviation, $3\times10^{-19}$ at 10,000 s residual instability and $1.6\times10^{-20}\pm 4.3\times10^{-19}$ offset. This level of the stability retains for an increased channel loss up to 89 dB. Our work can not only be directly used in ground-based application, but also firmly laid the groundwork for future satellite time-frequency dissemination., Comment: 27 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables
