A novel in-situ tensile experiment is designed to investigate the coordinated deformation mechanism between coarse grains (CGs) and fine grains (FGs) in the mixed crystal structure of X2CrNiMo18.12 austenitic stainless steel (X18.12). In-situ electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques are employed. The experiment involves quantitatively calculating the initial order and number of slip systems, rotation rate, and rotation path of FGs in two groups of mixed crystal structures with different degrees of mixing. The results reveal that the slip trace is predominantly generated in the CGs which have harder crystal orientation at a small deformation of 1.4 %. It is observed that the activation of slip traces in FGs becomes increasingly challenging as the degree of mixed crystal increases. The crystallographic orientation of the grains exhibited a certain degree of rotation to facilitate slip activation. Analysis of grain rotation demonstrates that most grains rotated along the [111] direction during the in-situ tensile test. Additionally, grains with a grain size below 100 μm typically follow a single rotation path but exhibit a high rotation rate. Comparing the mixed grain structures with mixed crystal degrees of 7 and 3, it is observed that the former exhibited a higher grain rotation rate, further indicating the increased difficulty in achieving coordinated deformation in structures with a higher degree of mixed crystal. These findings provide valuable insights into the synergistic deformation behavior of CGs and FGs in mixed crystal structures.

BackgroundPulmonary artery (PA) strain is associated with structural and functional alterations of the vessel and is an independent predictor of cardiovascular events. The relationship of PA strain to metabolomics in participants without cardiovascular disease is unknown.MethodsIn the current study, community-based older adults, without known cardiovascular disease, underwent simultaneous cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, clinical examination, and serum sampling. PA global longitudinal strain (GLS) analysis was performed by tracking the change in distance from the PA bifurcation to the pulmonary annular centroid, using standard cine CMR images. Circulating metabolites were measured by cross-sectional targeted metabolomics analysis.ResultsAmong n = 170 adults (mean age 71 ± 6.3 years old; 79 women), mean values of PA GLS were 16.2 ± 4.4%. PA GLS was significantly associated with age (β = −0.13, P = 0.017), heart rate (β = −0.08, P = 0.001), dyslipidemia (β = −2.37, P = 0.005), and cardiovascular risk factors (β = −2.49, P = 0.001). Alanine (β = −0.007, P = 0.01) and proline (β = −0.0009, P = 0.042) were significantly associated with PA GLS after adjustment for clinical risk factors. Medium and long-chain acylcarnitines were significantly associated with PA GLS (C12, P = 0.027; C12-OH/C10-DC, P = 0.018; C14:2, P = 0.036; C14:1, P = 0.006; C14, P = 0.006; C14-OH/C12-DC, P = 0.027; C16:3, P = 0.019; C16:2, P = 0.006; C16:1, P = 0.001; C16:2-OH, P = 0.016; C16:1-OH/C14:1-DC, P = 0.028; C18:1-OH/C16:1-DC, P = 0.032).ConclusionBy conventional CMR, PA GLS was associated with aging and vascular risk factors among a contemporary cohort of older adults. Metabolic pathways involved in PA stiffness may include gluconeogenesis, collagen synthesis, and fatty acid oxidation.

Abstract Background Advances in four-dimensional flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (4D flow CMR) have allowed quantification of left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) blood flow. We aimed to (1) investigate age and sex differences of 4D flow CMR-derived LV and RV relative flow components and kinetic energy (KE) parameters indexed to end-diastolic volume (KEiEDV) in healthy subjects; and (2) assess the effects of age and sex on these parameters. Methods We performed 4D flow analysis in 163 healthy participants (42% female; mean age 43 ± 13 years) of a prospective registry study (NCT03217240) who were free of cardiovascular diseases. Relative flow components (direct flow, retained inflow, delayed ejection flow, residual volume) and multiple phasic KEiEDV (global, peak systolic, average systolic, average diastolic, peak E-wave, peak A-wave) for both LV and RV were analysed. Results Compared with men, women had lower median LV and RV residual volume, and LV peak and average systolic KEiEDV, and higher median values of RV direct flow, RV global KEiEDV, RV average diastolic KEiEDV, and RV peak E-wave KEiEDV. ANOVA analysis found there were no differences in flow components, peak and average systolic, average diastolic and global KEiEDV for both LV and RV across age groups. Peak A-wave KEiEDV increased significantly (r = 0.458 for LV and 0.341 for RV), whereas peak E-wave KEiEDV (r = − 0.355 for LV and − 0.318 for RV), and KEiEDV E/A ratio (r = − 0.475 for LV and − 0.504 for RV) decreased significantly, with age. Conclusion These data using state-of-the-art 4D flow CMR show that biventricular flow components and kinetic energy parameters vary significantly by age and sex. Abstract Background Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) offers comprehensive right ventricular (RV) evaluation in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Emerging four-dimensional (4D) flow CMR allows visualization and quantification of intracardiac flow components and calculation of phasic blood kinetic energy (KE) parameters but it is unknown whether these parameters are associated with cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET)-assessed exercise capacity, which is a surrogate measure of survival in PAH. We compared 4D flow CMR parameters in PAH with healthy controls, and investigated the association of these parameters with RV remodelling, RV functional and CPET outcomes. Methods PAH patients and healthy controls from two centers were prospectively enrolled to undergo on-site cine and 4D flow CMR, and CPET within one week. RV remodelling index was calculated as the ratio of RV to left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic volumes (EDV). Phasic (peak systolic, average systolic, and peak E-wave) LV and RV blood flow KE indexed to EDV (KEIEDV) and ventricular LV and RV flow components (direct flow, retained inflow, delayed ejection flow, and residual volume) were calculated. Oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2) and minute ventilation (VE) were measured and recorded. Results 45 PAH patients (46 ± 11 years; 7 M) and 51 healthy subjects (46 ± 14 years; 17 M) with no significant differences in age and gender were analyzed. Compared with healthy controls, PAH had significantly lower median RV direct flow, RV delayed ejection flow, RV peak E-wave KEIEDV, peak VO2, and percentage (%) predicted peak VO2, while significantly higher median RV residual volume and VE/VCO2 slope. Abstract Background Four-dimensional (4D) flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) allows quantification of biventricular blood flow by flow components and kinetic energy (KE) analyses. However, it remains unclear whether 4D flow parameters can predict cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) as a clinical outcome in repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF). Current study aimed to (1) compare 4D flow CMR parameters in rTOF with age- and gender-matched healthy controls, (2) investigate associations of 4D flow parameters with functional and volumetric right ventricular (RV) remodelling markers, and CPET outcome. Methods Sixty-three rTOF patients (14 paediatric, 49 adult; 30 ± 15 years; 29 M) and 63 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (14 paediatric, 49 adult; 31 ± 15 years) were prospectively recruited at four centers. All underwent cine and 4D flow CMR, and all adults performed standardized CPET same day or within one week of CMR. RV remodelling index was calculated as the ratio of RV to left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic volumes. Four flow components were analyzed: direct flow, retained inflow, delayed ejection flow and residual volume. Additionally, three phasic KE parameters normalized to end-diastolic volume (KEiEDV), were analyzed for both LV and RV: peak systolic, average systolic and peak E-wave. Abstract Background Parameters of myocardial deformation may provide improved insights into right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. We quantified RV longitudinal myocardial function using a fast, semi-automated method and investigated its diagnostic and prognostic values in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), who respectively exemplify patients with RV volume and pressure overload conditions. Methods The study enrolled 150 patients (rTOF, n = 75; PAH, n = 75) and 75 healthy controls. RV parameters of interest were fast global longitudinal strain (GLS) and strain rates during systole (GLSRs), early diastole (GLSRe) and late diastole (GLSRa), obtained by tracking the distance from the medial and lateral tricuspid valve insertions to the RV epicardial apex on cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Results The RV fast GLS exhibited good agreement with strain values obtained by conventional feature tracking approach (bias − 4.9%, error limits (± 2·standard deviation) ± 4.3%) with fast GLS achieving greater reproducibility and requiring reduced analysis time. Phasor measurement unit (PMU), which could provide high-frequency phasors including the amplitude and phase angle synchronized with Global Positioning System (GPS)/BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) signal, plays a vital role in dynamic monitoring of power systems. However, if the GPS/BDS signal could not be received, the time of PMU, which depends on the crystal oscillator (CO), would cause measurement deviation due to frequency shifts of CO, and then the PMU data would engage deviations and deteriorate the relevant applications. In recognizing the above problems, this article proposes a method to detect the frequency deviation of the crystal oscillator (FDCO) based on the correlation coefficient, according to its relation with the characteristic of the voltage phase angle difference (VPAD) between the two ends of the line. In detail, firstly, the quality of the VPAD of PMU between the two ends of the line is analyzed and the related problem is stated. Secondly, the characteristics of PMU data, when FDCO exists, are derived and analyzed, especially the VPAD between the line, and the suitability of the data for detecting the FDCO is discussed. Thirdly, the ideas and specific methods of detecting the FDCO in case of malfunction of GPS/BDS signal are proposed. Furthermore, the validity of the proposed method with simulation data and modified measured data is presented. Finally, the conjectures on the reasons for the approximately constant VPAD deviation in the previous section are discussed.

Accurate transmission line parameters are the basis of power system calculations. Aiming at obtaining accuracy online transmission line parameters in the case of large random noises even bad data in Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) measurements, which occurs frequently in the practice, a new adaptive robust identification method combining adaptive linear neuron (ADALINE) and traditional robust IGG (Institute of Geodesy & Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) method is proposed. In detail, first, the identification model of transmission line parameters is presented based on the multi-period PMU measurements at both ends of the transmission line. Then, a parameter solving model based on ADALINE is established. Furthermore, to fully use measurement information, the adaptive robust ADALINE (ARA) are proposed, which applies the robust IGG weight function (Scheme I) to ADALINE to realize “three segments” robust identification. In addition, to improve the robustness, the expectation and variance of the equation residual sequence are estimated adaptively with the median principle to adjust the threshold for the IGG function to assure robustness (TAR), which is independent of the known information for the error of the measurement equipment. The cases based on PSCAD simulated data and measured data show the effectiveness and engineering practicality of the proposed method.

Smart grids are increasingly dependent on data with the rapid development of communication and measurement. As one of the important data sources of smart grids, phasor measurement unit (PMU) is facing the high risk from attacks. Compared with cyber attacks, global position system (GPS) spoofing attacks (GSAs) are easier to implement because they can be exploited by portable devices, without the need to access the physical system. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel method for pattern recognition of GSA and an additional function of the proposed method is the data correction to the phase angle difference (PAD) deviation. Specifically, this paper analyzes the effect of GSA on PMU measurement and gives two common patterns of GSA, i.e., the step attack and the ramp attack. Then, the method of estimating the PAD deviation across a transmission line introduced by GSA is proposed, which does not require the line parameters. After obtaining the estimated PAD deviations, the pattern of GSA can be recognized by hypothesis tests and correlation coefficients according to the statistical characteristics of the estimated PAD deviations. Finally, with the case studies, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated, and the success rate of the pattern recognition and the online performance of the proposed method are analyzed.

The aim of this study was to evaluate a new analytical method for calculating non-invasive fractional flow reserve (FFRAM) to diagnose ischemic coronary lesions. Patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease (CAD) who underwent computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) and invasive coronary angiography (ICA) with FFR measurements from two sites were prospectively recruited. Obstructive CAD was defined as diameter stenosis (DS) ≥50% on CTCA or ICA. FFRAM was derived from CTCA images and anatomical features using analytical method and was compared with computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based FFR (FFRB) and invasive ICA-based FFR. FFRAM, FFRB, and invasive FFR ≤ 0.80 defined ischemia. A total of 108 participants (mean age 60, range: 30–83 years, 75% men) with 169 stenosed coronary arteries were analyzed. The per-vessel accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive and negative predictive values were, respectively, 81, 75, 86, 81, and 82% for FFRAM and 87, 88, 86, 83, and 90% for FFRB. The area under the receiver operating characteristics curve for FFRAM (0.89 and 0.87) and FFRB (0.90 and 0.86) were higher than both CTCA- and ICA-derived DS (all p < 0.0001) on per-vessel and per-patient bases for discriminating ischemic lesions. The computational time for FFRAM was much shorter than FFRB (2.2 ± 0.9 min vs. 48 ± 36 min, excluding image acquisition and segmentation). FFRAM calculated from a novel and expeditious non-CFD approach possesses a comparable diagnostic performance to CFD-derived FFRB, with a significantly shorter computational time.

Invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) is recommended to guide stent deployment. We previously introduced a non-invasive FFR calculation (FFRB) based on computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) with reduced-order computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and resistance boundary conditions. Current study aimed to assess the feasibility and accuracy of FFRB for predicting coronary hemodynamics before and after stenting, with invasive FFR as the reference. Twenty-five patients who had undergone CTCA were prospectively enrolled before invasive coronary angiography (ICA) and FFR-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on 30 coronary vessels. Using reduced-order CFD with novel boundary conditions on three-dimensional (3D) patient-specific anatomic models reconstructed from CTCA, we calculated FFRB before and after virtual stenting. The latter simulated PCI by clipping stenotic segments from the 3D coronary models and replacing them with segments to mimic the deployed coronary stents. Pre- and post-virtual stenting FFRB were compared with FFR measured pre- and post-PCI by investigators blinded to FFRB results. Among 30 coronary lesions, pre-stenting FFRB (mean 0.69 ± 0.12) and FFR (mean 0.67 ± 0.13) exhibited good correlation (r = 0.86, p < 0.001) and agreement [mean difference 0.024, 95% limits of agreement (LoA): −0.11, 0.15]. Similarly, post-stenting FFRB (mean 0.84 ± 0.10) and FFR (mean 0.86 ± 0.08) exhibited fair correlation (r = 0.50, p < 0.001) and good agreement (mean difference 0.024, 95% LoA: −0.20, 0.16). The accuracy of FFRB for identifying post-stenting ischemic lesions (FFR ≤ 0.8) (residual ischemia) was 87% (sensitivity 80%, specificity 88%). Our novel FFRB, based on CTCA with reduced-order CFD and resistance boundary conditions, accurately predicts the hemodynamic effects of stenting which may serve as a tool in PCI planning.

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is the reference standard for non-invasive assessment of right-sided heart function. Recent advances in CMR post-processing facilitate quantification of tricuspid annular (TA) dynamics and longitudinal strains of the right ventricle (RV) and right atrium (RA). We aimed to determine age- and sex-specific changes in CMR-derived TA dynamics, and RV and RA functional parameters in healthy Asian adults. We studied 360 healthy subjects aged 21–79 years, with 30 men and 30 women in each of the six age groups. Functional parameters of RV and RA were measured on standard four-chamber cine CMR using fast feature tracking: (1) TA peak velocities (systolic velocity S′, early diastolic velocity E′, late diastolic velocity A′) and TA plane systolic excursion (TAPSE); (2) RV global longitudinal strain (GLS) and strain rates; and (3) RA phasic longitudinal strains and strain rates. S′ and TAPSE exhibited negative correlations with age. RV GLS was significantly higher in females than in males but not associated with age in both sexes. Females had similar E′, lower A′, and higher E′/A′ ratios compared to males. Positive associations of E′ and E′/A′, and negative association of A′ with age were observed in both sexes. Females had higher RA reservoir and conduit strains compared to males. There were significantly negative and positive associations between RA conduit and booster strains, respectively, with age. Age- and sex-specific reference ranges were established, and associations revealed, for fast CMR feature tracking parameters of right heart function in a large normal Asian population.

Background: We determined the age-related changes in atrioventricular junction (AVJ) velocities and displacements by feature tracking cardiovascular magnetic resonance (FT-CMR) in a healthy community-based population. We also investigated the importance of age-matching for the identification of altered AVJ dynamics. Methods: FT-CMR was performed in 230 controls (18–78 years) and in two patient groups each consisting of 40 subjects (group 1: 23–55 years, group 2: 56–80 years). AVJ dynamic parameters, including systolic velocity Sm, early diastolic velocity Em, late diastolic velocity Am, maximal systolic excursion MAPSE and the new parameter sweep surface area velocity SSAV were measured. Compared with the traditional supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data, phasor measurement unit (PMU) data is characterized by phase angle measurement and high reporting speed (perhaps 100 Hz). The high reporting speed provides dynamic characteristics of the power system frequency, voltage, and current measurement. PMUs have become one of the important data sources for smart grid monitoring. PMU/WAMS (wide area measurement system) based advanced applications have been widely used in the dispatch centers. Some of the applications, such as line parameter identification and state estimation, depend not only on phase angle data but also on phase angle difference between different locations. Field data can suffer from errors, such as time synchronization error, transducer error, PMU algorithm error, hardware error or malicious attacks, etc. A time synchronization error can directly cause an error in the phase angle difference calculated between the two ends of a transmission line that could degrade a PMU based application. In this paper, a novel method to cluster the phase angle difference data, assess the data quality and screen out the bad PMU phase angle difference data is proposed. First, we develop the hyperplane cluster method to cluster the phase angle difference data. Second, in order to screen out the right data type, this paper compares the virtual reactance parameters of each data type obtained by voltage mean to the line reactance parameter given by the system model. Finally, the performance of the proposed methods has been verified by a simulation. The efficiency of the proposed method has been analyzed. The application of the proposed method using field measured PMU data shows the engineering practicability of the proposed method. In addition, the comparison of the proposed method with other clustering methods is discussed.

Abstract Background Abnormal left atrial (LA) function is a marker of cardiac dysfunction and adverse cardiovascular outcome, but is difficult to assess, and hence not, routinely quantified. We aimed to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of a fast method to measure long-axis LA strain and strain rate (SR) with standard cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) compared to conventional feature tracking (FT) derived longitudinal strain. Methods We studied 50 normal controls, 30 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and 100 heart failure (HF) patients, including 40 with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), 30 mid-range ejection fraction (HFmrEF) and 30 preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). LA longitudinal strain and SR parameters were derived by tracking the distance between the left atrioventricular junction and a user-defined point at the mid posterior LA wall on standard cine CMR two- and four-chamber views. LA performance was analyzed at three distinct cardiac phases: reservoir function (reservoir strain ε s and strain rate SRs), conduit function (conduit strain ε e and strain rate SRe) and booster pump function (booster strain ε a and strain rate SRa). One important index to assess left ventricular diastolic function is the quantitative measurement of atrioventricular junction (AVJ) motion in one cardiac cycle including systole and diastole. The best way to perform the measurement is to use a software tool that can conduct AVJ motion tracking from cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) images. In this paper, a software tool for this purpose is presented by using the insight segmentation and registration toolkit (ITK), the visualization toolkit (VTK), and Qt. We propose a surface area-based tracking approach in the software tool. In the tracking approach to obtain the surface area swept by six points being tracked, we manually select six points from four-, three- and two-chamber views of CMR images. After that, we reconstruct the 3-D coordinates of the six points from image acquisition parameters extracted from DICOM files. We perform interpolation by using parametric cubic curve fitting techniques. From the curve fitting results, we finally obtain the surface areas for all time points in one cardiac cycle. The software tool has been successfully implemented. The functionality include single point-based tracking, surface area-based tracking by using 6 tracked points, generation of displacement, sweep surface area and velocity, and generation of tracking movies. From the software engineering practice, it is concluded that ITK, VTK, and Qt are very handy software systems to implement automatic image analysis functions for CMR images, such as quantitative measure of motion by visual tracking. The software tool provides a convenient and efficient way to measure AVJ motion and extends the scope of methods for ventricular function assessment.

This study aimed to explore potential biocontrol mechanisms involved in the interference of antagonistic bacteria with fungal pathogenicity in planta. To do this, we conducted a comparative transcriptomic analysis of the “take-all” pathogenic fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici (Ggt) by examining Ggt-infected wheat roots in the presence or absence of the biocontrol agent Bacillus velezensis CC09 (Bv) compared with Ggt grown on potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates. A total of 4,134 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in Ggt-infected wheat roots, while 2,011 DEGs were detected in Bv+Ggt-infected roots, relative to the Ggt grown on PDA plates. Moreover, 31 DEGs were identified between wheat roots, respectively infected with Ggt and Bv+Ggt, consisting of 29 downregulated genes coding for potential Ggt pathogenicity factors – e.g., para-nitrobenzyl esterase, cutinase 1 and catalase-3, and two upregulated genes coding for tyrosinase and a hypothetical protein in the Bv+Ggt-infected roots when compared with the Ggt-infected roots. In particular, the expression of one gene, encoding the ABA3 involved in the production of Ggt’s hormone abscisic acid, was 4.11-fold lower in Ggt-infected roots with Bv than without Bv. This is the first experimental study to analyze the activity of Ggt transcriptomes in wheat roots exposed or not to a biocontrol bacterium. Our results therefore suggest the presence of Bv directly and/or indirectly impairs the pathogenicity of Ggt in wheat roots through complex regulatory mechanisms, such as hyphopodia formation, cell wall hydrolase, and expression of a papain inhibitor, among others, all which merit further investigation.

Reference values on atrial and ventricular strain from cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) are essential in identifying patients with impaired atrial and ventricular function. However, reference values have not been established for Chinese subjects. One hundred and fifty healthy volunteers (75 Males/75 Females; 18–82 years) were recruited. All underwent CMR scans with images acceptable for further strain analysis. Subjects were stratified by age: Group 1, 18–44 years; Group 2, 45–59 years; Group 3, ≥60 years. Feature tracking of CMR cine imaging was used to obtain left atrial global longitudinal (LA Ell) and circumferential strains (LA Ecc) and respective systolic strain rates, left ventricular longitudinal (LV Ell), circumferential (LV Ecc) and radial strains (LV Err) and their respective strain rates, and right ventricular longitudinal strain (RV Ell) and strain rate. LA Ell and LA Ecc were 32.8 ± 9.2% and 40.3 ± 13.4%, respectively, and RV Ell was −29.3 ± 6.0%. LV Ell, LV Ecc and LV Err were −22.4 ± 2.9%, −24.3 ± 3.1%, and 79.0 ± 19.4%, respectively. LV Ell and LV Ecc were higher in females than males (P < 0.05). LA Ell, LA Ecc, and LV Ecc decreased, while LV Err increased with age (P < 0.05). LV Ell and RV Ell were not shown to be associated with age. Normal ranges for atrial and ventricular strain and strain rates are provided using CMR feature tracking in Chinese subjects.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients present altered myocardial mechanics due to the hypertrophied ventricular wall and are typically diagnosed by the increase in myocardium wall thickness. This study aimed to quantify regional left ventricular (LV) shape, wall stress and deformation from cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) images in HCM patients and controls, in order to establish superior measures to differentiate HCM from controls. A total of 19 HCM patients and 19 controls underwent cardiac MR scans. The acquired MR images were used to reconstruct 3D LV geometrical models and compute the regional parameters (i.e., wall thickness, curvedness, wall stress, area strain and ejection fraction) based on the standard 16 segment model using our in-house software. HCM patients were further classified into four quartiles based on wall thickness at end diastole (ED) to assess the impact of wall thickness on these regional parameters. There was a significant difference between the HCM patients and controls for all regional parameters (P < 0.001). Wall thickness was greater in HCM patients at the end-diastolic and end-systolic phases, and thickness was most pronounced in segments at the septal regions. A multivariate stepwise selection algorithm identified wall stress index at ED (σi,ED) as the single best independent predictor of HCM (AUC = 0.947). At the cutoff value σi,ED < 1.64, both sensitivity and specificity were 94.7%. This suggests that the end-diastolic wall stress index incorporating regional wall curvature—an index based on mechanical principle—is a sensitive biomarker for HCM diagnosis with potential utility in diagnostic and therapeutic assessment.
