A novel, convenient and economical method was developed for the anodic thiocyanation of nitrogen-containing aromatic and heteroaromatic compounds by constant potential electrolysis of potassium thiocyanate in an undivided cell under mild condition (25°C, Pt anode, CH3CN) with yields up to 91%. The products were characterized by spectroscopic methods and a mechanism was deduced from voltammetry studies. The salient features of proposed procedure ensures mild reaction conditions, shortest reaction time, accelerated rate, high yield, cost-effectiveness, selectivity, and simple work up procedure, Which provide additional advantages in the context of green chemistry. Anthropometric body dimensions play a significant role in human-machine interaction. The overall working efficiency of human-machine environment and resultant discomfort has severe impact while using farm tools and machinery in hills. The northeastern region of India is predominantly hilly and inhabited by tribal population. This study presents the anthropometric data of the agricultural workers of Meghalaya, which helps to develop/modify the tools and machinery suitable for the people of this Region. In total 1027 subjects (566 male and 461 female) of five different tribes known as Khasi, Garo, Jaintia, Hajong and Koch from 35 different villages were selected randomly from seven districts. Thirty-four body dimensions useful for agricultural equipment design were selected and measured. The average weight of female workers was found to be about 10.1% lower than the male workers and the average stature of male was nearly 6.9% higher than the female. Similar trend was observed in most of the measured body dimension. The collected data showed non-significant difference among various body dimensions while comparing with other northeastern states. Quantitative indication of a complex formation comes from the estimation of the stability or formation constants characterizing the equilibria corresponding to the successive addition of ligands. The binary equilibria of metal (II) / (III)--ascorbic acid and also mixed equilibria metal (II) / (III)--ascorbic acid--NTA have been studied using ionophoretic technique. The stability constants of metal--ascorbic acid binary complexes are found to be 103.77, 102.47, 10 2.77 and that of metal--ascorbic acid--NTA mixed complexes have been found to be 106.05, 105.93, 105.75, for Fe(III), Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes, respectively at 25 °C and ionic strength Ic = 0.1 mol dm-3 (HClO4). The electroorganic synthesis of 5-substituted-2-amino-1,3,4-oxadiazoIes from semicarbazone and 5-substituted-2-amino (substituted amino)- 1,3,4-oxadiazoles from acylhydrazines and isothiocyanates were carried out at platinum electrode.
