In this article an attempt has been made to determine the uni-directinal (001-direction) pressure effect on the optical gain spectra and corresponding emission wavelength of a designed type-II nano-scale heterostructure based on GaAsSb-InAs material system. As a trial, the range of pressure applied was kept as 1-3 GPa. On introducing the uni-directional (001-direction) pressure (in the range of 1 GPa to 3 GPa) on the GaAsSb-InAs QW heterostructure, the optical gain is reduced significantly from 3050 /cm to 1150 /cm, while the transition wavelength shows the red shift.

In this article an attempt has been made to design the meshing structure of Alq3/Alq3:NTCDA/NPB layers based OLED and to determine the the optical characteristics such as PL (photo luminescence), emission rate, and normal spectral density. The studies of all these parameters suggest that the heterostructure system based OLED is useful for the emission of high intense radiations in the visible region (wavelength region ~500 nm).

A type-II (with broken bandgap) W-shaped nano-heterostructure having layers combination of AlSb, InAs and GaAsSb compound semiconductors has been proposed which can be utilized as high intensity lasing source in MIR (mid infrared region). For this heterostructure, a multiband band k.p Hamiltonian has been simplified to compute the required carrier’s wavefunctions, their subband structures and matrix dipole elements accountable for the probabilistic transitions which results into the high optical gain. For 2-D charge carrier density of 1.5 × 1012 cm−2, the computed results confirm that only the light hole (LH) subbands take part in optical transition in order to produce the high optical gain of the order of ~8850 /cm which corresponds to ~5.2 µm. Keeping in view its high optical gain at ~5.2 µm, the proposed type-II AlSb/InAs/GaAsSb heterostructure can be useful in the environmental monitoring, particularly important for sensing the CO2, CO and NO toxic gases available in the polluted environment. Moreover, this type-II heterostructure can also play an important role in traditional applications such as industrial, medical, MIR spectroscopy, and telecommunications applications which require ~5200 nm wavelength.

Mathematics is the soul of physics. They complement each other and are inseparable. Attired expertise of mathematics is an essential component in intuitive and active problem solving in physics. This study explores the extent up to which the mathematical competence supports the learners in improving their Problem-Based Learning Skills. In addition this study investigated student's active learning in Physics pertaining to the mathematical reviews encapsulated before the physics Classes applied to undergraduate engineering programs. Second-semester engineering students were focused on while conducting this study. While carrying out the tasks learners were expected to carry out arithmetic transfer to establish a connection between the two disciplines in a meaningful way in the inception of the class.Besides, they were expected to translate the numbers as concepts in physics as they advance in the topic. The transition phase from physics concepts to problem-solving is expected to be smooth pertaining to the mathematical framework students have shaped during the mathematical review session in the beginning of the class. The consideration of the achievement level of students in two disciplines in the preliminary stage of the study was extremely helpful in the later stage to analyze the outcome. Any modification in the normal approach to problem solving at any stage done by any of the students was tracked down. Student's ability to give meaning to the result obtained in the form of numbers during the problem solving session was investigated to identify their ability to conceptualize the answer in terms of physics. The transition phase from numbers to the concept is not smooth and thus contribute to the low understanding of conceptual physics.

Successful engineers are self-directed critical thinkers who are creative and analytical in their approach. They are good problem solvers and possess lifelong learning skills. Many students spend time to study but not the quality time in studying. One of the subject, which is most affected by this, is Physics as it involves more cognitive exercise. This is evident in areas related to calculus based problem solving. Whatever be the reason, in classrooms many physics students seem unprepared and unmotivated in areas related to problem solving in Physics. Especially in calculus based physics problems, students find difficulty with both mathematical aspect and concepts in physics. This experimental study focuses on how student’s problem solving skills in calculus-based physics in a digital platform relates to their achievement. The result showed students motivation and collaboration were positively affected by this method. In addition, the student’s performance in the final exam showed a significant increase. The result is in line with the shift in engineering education from an instructive to constructivist approach over the years.

Digital technology and e learning have high impact in the field of education. This quasi-experimental study focusses the effectiveness of inclusion of digital components in physics instruction applied to engineering education. The methodology involved in this study focus analysis of post-test scores using statistical techniques such as t-test and collecting student's opinion using standardized questionnaire. The t-test result revealed that posttest scores of the experimental and control group are statistically significant. This confirmed that students who studied physics, in engineering education with the inclusion of digital components in their instruction (experimental group) attained better learning and performed well compared to the students who did not use the digital components in instruction (control group). The student's average scores showed a considerable difference of 10.76 %.
