\nIMPLICATIONS OF PRACTICEPromoting social justice, fighting against social inequalities, and minimizing the risks and dangers faced by society’s most vulnerable groups are the aims of socio-educational intervention actions promoted by Social Educators in community projects. Using a qualitative and interpretative case study research methodology, this study sought to understand, from the perspective of Social Educators (
n = 13) who graduated from a university in the north of Portugal between 2018 and 2022, how and if the experience of working in a community project during initial and in-service training enriches and/or alters their work. The results showed that the participation of Social Educators in community projects deconstructs an excessively individualistic view of intervention, with Social Educators highlighting the social and educational conditions that shape the target audiences in an action that is required to be holistic and legitimized by the members of the communities in which they operate. The initial training of Social Educators should have a theoretical and conceptual community focus, as part of a mesostructured and macrostructural intervention.Curricular internships and projects applied to social contexts contribute to the training of Social Educators in a work that is intended to be increasingly articulated with other community intervention agents. The networks that are created for the implementation of community projects starts mainly from individual rather than institutional initiatives.Community projects tend to overemphasize corrective or treatment intervention to the detriment of preventive intervention, i.e. upstream of social problems.In-service training is a need perceived by Social Educators, although it has a dispersed profile and is poorly adjusted to the demands of community intervention. Geocaching is an activity that involves hiding or finding treasures (geocaches) anywhere with the help of GPS or geolocation. This work consists of the design, development and evaluation of a socioeducational practice, using a mobile device as a tool and a geolocation application as an instrument. The aim of this study is to find out the impact of the implementation of an educational practice in the municipal context to raise environmental awareness and improve digital literacy using geolocation. This proposal is part of the socio-educational area in the information society, within the field of child protection, specifically in a day care centre for minors. This research is qualitative, in particular it is a multiple case study and is framed within the narrative approach. The results and conclusions show that the children and the professionals involved are satisfied with the implementation of the socio-educational practice in the municipal context, with entertainment predominating as a positive aspect. The children have acquired mainly procedural knowledge, with the support of digital technology. Finally, it is worth mentioning the impact on motivation and conflict resolution. The prejudices that have traditionally been held against female delinquency and the numerical minority of women in the prison system have led to the invisibility of their needs and characteristics as well as to many situations of inequality while they are incarcerated. This study is aimed at exploring the gender discrimination perceived by women in Spanish prisons. To this end, a scale for perception of gender discrimination is applied to a sample of incarcerated women. Qualitative data from a questionnaire administered to prison professionals and field notes are also used. The results show that incarcerated women perceive the existence of several situations of discrimination related to socio-educational intervention and to the adaptation of prisons to their unique needs, especially for those housed in male prisons. Prison professionals hold similar views and express their concern about the feminization of activities. The study has implications for the prison system and policy makers, including the implementation of gender-responsive programming in women's prisons, the development of periodic assessments of the experiences faced by incarcerated women, and the training of prison staff.

Eating disorders are mental health illnesses that are influenced by various individual, family and social factors. The present study aimed to examine the influence of self‐esteem and socialisation through social networks on eating disorder behaviours in adolescence. The sample was made up of 721 secondary school students (49.1% girls). The sample age ranged between 12 and 18 years (M = 13.89, SD = 1.37). Participants completed the Eating Attitudes Test‐26 (EAT‐26) to measure disordered eating attitudes and behaviours, the Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale and the ESOC‐39 scale, which measures socialisation through social networks, in addition to a brief initial sociodemographic survey. Descriptive and multivariate analyses were carried out with MANOVA. Low self‐esteem was shown to increase behaviours linked to eating disorders globally. Likewise, high socialisation through social networks was also associated with a general increase in eating disorders during adolescence. The findings of the study provide empirical support for the need to develop prevention strategies that address the improvement in self‐esteem and adequate socialisation through social networks during adolescence. The development of effective interventions along these lines could be helpful to treat the behaviours and attitudes that are observed in eating disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
School failure and early educational abandonment are complex processes with important individual and social consequences, by significantly reducing the opportunities of adolescents in relation to their possibilities of labor and social integration and compromising their transition to adult life, becoming a problem research with great social impact. This paper presents a systematic review and meta-analysis aimed at identifying the variables that affect the processes of school failure and early school leaving, in order to view them holistically. The systematic review, carried out according to the PRISMA declaration, has allowed the identification of twenty-six quantitative, qualitative and mixed approach research in the field of Social Sciences linked to the topic addressed. The meta-analysis of these investigations, for its part, has made it possible to identify the differential characteristics of the studies according to random factors, thus explaining their heterogeneity and the so-called publication bias., El fracaso escolar y abandono educativo temprano son procesos complejos con importantes consecuencias individuales y sociales, al reducir significativamente las oportunidades de los y las adolescentes en relación a sus posibilidades de integración laboral y social y comprometer su tránsito a la vida adulta, convirtiéndose en un problema de investigación de gran impacto social.

This article addresses the potential of applied theatre to build spaces of visibility and recognition for homeless people. It describes the logics, achievements and challenges of Teatro de la Inclusión and Fuera de la Campana, two theatrical experiences coordinated by the authors in southern Spain. These cases have been investigated and documented through ethnographic procedures that have included participant observation and in-depth interviews with the group's participants, among other data-collection techniques. Through the voices of their protagonists, the authors critically discuss the perceived benefits of the experiences by studying their potential for recognition and the artistic teaching methodologies put into play. They also analyse the convergences and divergences in the aesthetic-political conceptions of each of the groups and their consequences in their respective contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LITERATURE reviews , *SOCIAL justice , *PARTICIPATION , *SOCIAL development , *NARRATIVES - Abstract
Applied Theatre (AT) is a relatively recently-created interdisciplinary field that includes investigation of the social and educational uses of its practices. Since its emergence as a discipline in the 1990s, research has proliferated. However, to better understand the breadth and depth of AT's social and educational applications, there is a need to review and synthesise the scientific literature in this developing area. We sought to address this gap by providing a qualitative synthesis of relevant literature focusing on theatre as a tool for social and educational intervention with socially disadvantaged groups, capturing some of the key achievements and challenges in the field. A qualitative review of scientific literature published on this issue in the last decade was conducted. After obtaining an overview of the literature, we conducted a thematic analysis to identify the central themes of the research. Scientific discussion on the social and educational uses of theatre has expanded significantly in the last decade. Our thematic analysis identified the documentation of a rich multiplicity of social and educational possibilities for applying theatre to contexts of social vulnerability, including: empowerment and development of critical awareness, promotion of personal and community development, construction of spaces of recognition, development of empathetic attitudes towards human differences, and the recovery of silenced narratives. This review also uncovered a number of challenges and dilemmas inherent to the field, such as the question of power distribution in applied theatre processes or the complexities created by an instrumental vision of the arts. This qualitative synthesis of research demonstrates how AT, as a framework for reflection and action of an interdisciplinary nature, offers useful dialogical, creative and critical tools for generating viable alternatives in diverse social and educational contexts. The review of research draws attention to how AT may provide a platform for the recognition and participation of marginalised groups and individuals, and offer a potentially relevant mechanism for moderating social and educational inequality. SOCIAL impact , *COVID-19 , *PRIMARY education , *EDUCATIONAL attainment , *EDUCATIONAL equalization , *FAMILIES - Abstract
This article arises from a context characterized by the confinement suffered in Spain in March 2020, due to Covid-19. It aims to know how families with descendants with additional educational support needs, enrolled in Primary Education have reconciled their times, paying attention to the factors that made it difficult to combine their work, family and personal life, as well as the reconciliation measures demanded. The incidence of the mother's educational level and working conditions are also analyzed. A descriptive-comparative methodology is used based on a questionnaire applied online in the Spanish territory. The 127 participating families come from a larger sample within the framework of the R + D + i project "Education and conciliation for equity: analysis of its impact on school and social times of childhood" (Ref.: RTI2018-094764- B-100), which was selected based on availability and collaboration criteria. The analysis of the quantitative data complemented by a content analysis of the answers given in the open questions. Among the results found, a low level of conciliation in general is revealed, where the monitoring of school tasks was the main factor that has made it difficult to articulate daily times. The conclusions highlight the need to improve conciliation actions from a perspective of more community responsibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TRAINING of student teachers , *SOCIAL justice , *SOCIAL attitudes , *PSYCHOSOCIAL factors , *INFANTS , *PRIMARY education - Abstract
Educational institutions are increasingly considering incorporating practices that pursue socio-educational inclusion. However, certain psychosocial variables can make it difficult for this change in teachers to take place. The main objective of the present study was to investigate different future teacher´s beliefs about educational inclusion, as well as their relationship with their social justice attitudes, believe in a just world and need for cognitive closure. The sample was composed of 476 students of the Infant and Primary Education Teaching Degrees (Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain). In the research quantitative methods are used in order to analyze the data of the different Likert-type scales used. The main results show relationships between teacher training student’s beliefs about educational inclusion and their favorable attitudes towards social justice. In addition, we found differences in participants beliefs about educational inclusion depending of their levels of believe in a just world and need for cognitive closure. In this sense, we considered relevant the incorporation of different psychosocial factors to the study of inclusion. Finally, we discussed the need for teachers to consider inclusion as an aim from which to achieve fairer educational and community contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Virtual learning environments (EVA) allow the creation of processes where training and didactic interaction between teachers and students occur through courses, virtual tutorials, forums, etc., regardless of their location and the time at which they access. The objective of this work is to evaluate the EVA e-APSA, created with the aim of supporting communication and socio-educational intervention in the APSA association, an NGO aimed at people with intellectual disabilities and their environment to improve their quality of life, maximizing their autonomy and the development of their potential.

(1) Background: The article addresses the reality of prison professionals in ordinary and open prison conditions, which includes the perceptions of women prisoners, due to their low institutional presence that limits their reintegration, from a socio-educational perspective. The aim is to analyse psycho-emotional, educational, and work-related dimensions of professionals and the perception of female prisoners. (2) Methods: The study was carried out with a mixed design from two research projects. The sample consisted of 102 professionals and 75 women from 13 autonomous communities. The instruments were semi-structured questionnaires and interviews with the female prisoners. For the analysis, content analysis, basic statistics, contingency tables, and independence tests were carried out. (3) Results: The results indicate a lower presence of educational professionals and a higher presence of women. Most of them believe more in the reintegration of women, but see ordinary imprisonment and drug consumption as a limitation for it. The professionals state the lack of resources, bureaucratisation, and management, lack of training, and retraining as the main problems and needs. For their part, women demand individualised interventions adapted to their circumstances. (4) Conclusions: In short, it shows a professional reality that can be improved but with strengths such as motivation, experience, and social skills. The socio-educational dimension is valued for the dignification of women prisoners, their transition to life in freedom, and their reintegration.

- Abstract
It is essential to understand the reintegration processes of persons with drug dependency, especially in prisons and from a gender perspective. This paper aims to analyze drug dependency, the treatment received by women prisoners in the ordinary and open sentencing regimes in the Spanish prison system, and the relationship of these issues to the factors that determine the women’s reintegration processes. The study analyzes a sample of 756 women prisoners and 66 prison professionals who completed mixed questionnaires. The results show substantial presence of drug dependency in both regimes. Most of the women with drug dependency received treatment, although they perceived this treatment as lacking a gender-based perspective that recognized their needs. Treatment improves reintegration by fostering socio-community participation and employment status. Lack of continuity in treatment makes it more difficult, however, for the women to find housing and to prevent relapses and recidivism. It also jeopardizes mental health. In short, professional training and awareness of gender equality are needed to develop accompaniment strategies and suitably adapted treatment, and to prevent relapse and recidivism., Es fundamental conocer los procesos de reinserción de las personas drogodependientes, especialmente en las cárceles y desde una perspectiva de género.

This paper is a result from an action-research program developed with 7 to 12 year-children/teens living under institutional care. The aim of this project was the creation of a home and family life for these children and of their empowerment through the promotion of personal, social and academic skills that enhance emancipation and independence. For the implementation of the action plan, in terms of methodology, we are guided by the qualitative paradigm; we followed a work-action-participatory research plan seeking the active involvement of the participants in sociocultural animation tasks. It was implemented through the development of five workshops about behavioral, emotional, cognitive, educational, functional and parenting skills. The data was subjected to a qualitative analysis, the results of which suggest the existence of positive and significant changes in participants’ academic knowledge and school performance, as well as in what concerns to personal, relational and functional skills.

Not only numerous academic and empirical studies recognise the educational factor as decisive on life and work trajectories, but also its integrating potential and role in the promotion of social cohesion are widely acknowledged. The diversity of current societies, the economic situation and the impact of neoliberal policies represent new challenges for an inclusive education that should maintain its integrating potential, especially in countries such as Spain. This opens two unavoidable approaches and reflection spaces. The first one, regarding the fight against social inequality and the second one, focused on the construction of a socially sustainable educational model against the hegemonic neoliberal impact. Both levels of reflection are the pillars of an inclusive education system. This article combines an analytical and reflective approach to these issues recommending a series of intervention experiences and strategies for the construction of an inclusive educational model. - Abstract
Minors between 15 and 17 years old are the majority age group in residential care in Andalusia, Spain. These minors will have to face adult life at the age of 18. The aim of this qualitative study is to describe the factors that influence the preparation for adult life and the impact on young people after leaving residential care. Semi-structured open-ended interviews were conducted with 17 professionals in Andalusia. The results show that the process of preparation depends on the characteristics of the child, the intervention strategies of the professionals and the difficulties they encounter. These factors influence the success of the transition to adulthood of the care leavers. It concludes on the need to reformulate intervention strategies to give more importance to the management of emotions, the role of the family and the development of independent living skills. Finally, we present several proposals to improve both the policies and the management of residential centres. Some of these proposals are the promotion of assisted flats for children under 16 years and professional support after leaving the residential centres., Los/as menores de entre 15 y 17 años son el grupo de edad mayoritario en el acogimiento residencial en Andalucía, España.

However, frustration may not lead to violence, but rather to problem avoidance, indifference and depression. The purpose of this study is to examine educational intervention programs to prevent bullying situations. This aspect is a fundamental element in managing and designing programs or educational actions within the framework of a school tutorial action plan. - Abstract
Reading promotion is one of the traditional activities in libraries, with the aim of presenting reading as a leisure alternative. Taking into account the social commitment of libraries, these promotions should also be a vehicle to train critical and competent readers, something that has been largely forgotten as librarians focus on the playful nature of reading to attract users. Reading promotion activities would benefit by including information about the possibilities that literary texts offer regarding questions that concern us, therefore transforming the promotion of reading into an authentic socio-educational intervention. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The paradigm shift in mental health opens the door to a multidisciplinary approach. We advocate the need to invest in the recovery of people with Severe Mental Disorder from a socio-educational perspective, beyond the classic medical-clinical approach. The literature is reviewed and the results of various programs to support housing as a centerpiece of community intervention are analyzed. Improved personal and social functioning, fewer revenues, greater satisfaction and quality of life at lower cost is evidence. It is therefore crucial setting public policy of social action that promotes the conditions necessary to achieve social justice and inclusive citizenship. The relevance of Social Pedagogy and Social Education in achieving this goal and in improving their quality of life is concluded. We demand their theoretical and practical space in the field of mental health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper reflects on the opportunities and limitations of senior centers as spaces that can respond to the new demands of elderly citizens. Increasingly knowledgeable and aware of their role in society, senior citizens are calling for a move away from traditional and paternalistic welfare assistance schemes towards more socio-educational measures. The study emphasizes the importance of social education to promote active aging and the participation and involvement of older people in society. Although traditional senior centers were at one time essential in providing opportunities for relating with others and engaging in leisure activities, this is no longer sufficient for today's older people, and less so for the new elderly generations. The paper advocates the use of mediated rather than directed social and educational interventions in conjunction with professional social educators, which can have a significant impact on the social and personal development of the elderly.
