It needs surgical intervention. Refractory healing after an operation of ONJ can significantly lower the quality of life of elderly patients. The purpose of this study was to determine risk factors associated with refractory healing in aged patients.Patients and methods: We performed a retrospective study of ONJ in aged patients who underwent surgical treatments in a single institute during a 12-year period. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine independent risk factors associated with refractory healing.Results: A total of 122 patients were included. Of them, 25 patients were identified as the refractory group and 97 patients as the control group. Diabetes mellitus (DM) (AOR=5.03, 95% CI: 1.74–14.52) and glucocorticoid administration (AOR=7.97, 95% CI: 2.52–25.23) were found to be significant risk factors for refractory healing of ONJ.Conclusion: DM and medication of glucocorticoid might be risk factors for refractory healing of ONJ.Keywords: osteomyelitis, osteonecrosis, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, surgical therapy, refractory healing, diabetes mellitus, glucocorticoid

The lubricating properties of water have been discussed extensively for millennia. Water films can exhibit wearless high friction in the form of cold ice, or act as lubricants in skating and skiing when a liquid. At the fundamental level, friction is the result of a balance between the rate of energy generation by phonon excitation during sliding and drainage of the energy from the interface by coupling with bulk atoms. Using atomic force microscopy, we found that when H2O intercalates between graphene and mica, it increases the friction between the tip and the substrate, dependent on the thickness of the water and graphene layers, while the magnitude of the increase in friction was reduced by D2O intercalation. With the help of first-principles density functional theory calculations, we explain this unexpected behavior by the increased spectral range of the vibration modes of graphene caused by water, and by better overlap of the graphene vibration modes with mica phonons, which favors more efficient energy dissipation. The larger increase in friction with H2O versus D2O shows that the high-frequency vibration modes of the water molecules play a very important role in the transfer of the vibrational energy of the graphene to the phonon bath of the substrate.

Heavy-ion collisions at very high colliding energies are expected to produce a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) at the highest temperature obtainable in a laboratory setting. Experimental studies of these reactions can provide an unprecedented range of information on properties of the QGP at high temperatures. We report theoretical investigations of the physics perspectives of heavy-ion collisions at a future high-energy collider. These include initial parton production, collective expansion of the dense medium, jet quenching, heavy-quark transport, dissociation and regeneration of quarkonia, photon and dilepton production. We illustrate the potential of future experimental studies of the initial particle production and formation of QGP at the highest temperature to provide constraints on properties of strongly interaction matter.

Purpose: The presence of central lymph node (LN) metastasis increases the risk of cervical LN recurrence or distant metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). We investigated the value of preoperative (18)F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose-positron emission tomography (FDG PET)-computerized tomography (CT) and ultrasonography (US) to predict central LN metastasis from PTMC. Patients and Methods: Two hundred patients with newly diagnosed unifocal PTMC were enrolled. Preoperative FDG PET-CT was performed, and the highest SUV (SUV(max)) of focally increased uptake at thyroid was measured. Tumor size was measured using preoperative US. Uni- and multivariate analyses were performed using the presence of focally increased uptake at thyroid (FDG positivity), SUV(max), tumor size, and clinical risk factor for central LN metastasis. ROC curves for risk factors were then analyzed. These analyses were undertaken in two groups: the all patients group and the FDG-positive group. Finally, we combined risk factors associated with central LN metastasis to improve predictive accuracy. Results: Tumor size >6 mm was associated with central LN metastasis. FDG positivity was identified in 110 patients (55.0%) and the SUV(max) ranged from 1.8 to 12.8 (median 3.0). In FDG-positive group, SUV(max) >2.8 was associated with central LN metastasis. Addition of SUV(max) >2.8 to size >6 mm of PTMC improved sensitivity of predicting central LN metastasis from 55.0 to 67.5%, while specificity remained at 70.6%. Conclusion: Both FDG PET-CT and US are valuable for preoperative prediction of central LN metastasis from PTMC. Objective: This study was aimed to assess pancreas beta cell activity using (99m)Tc-diethyleneaminepentaacetic acid-glipizide (DTPA-GLP), a sulfonylurea receptor agent. The effect of DTPA-GLP on the blood glucose level in rats was also evaluated.Methods: DTPA dianhydride was conjugated with GLP in the presence of sodium amide, yielding 60%. Biodistribution and planar images were obtained at 30-120 min after injection of (99m)Tc-DTPA-GLP (1 mg/rat, 0.74 and 11.1 MBq per rat, respectively) in normal female Fischer 344 rats. The control group was given (99m)Tc-DTPA. To demonstrate pancreas beta cell uptake of (99m)Tc-DTPA-GLP via a receptor-mediated process, a group of rats was pretreated with streptozotocin (a beta cell toxin, 55 mg/kg, i.v.) and the images were acquired at immediately-65 min on day 5 post-treatment. The effect on the glucose levels after a single administration (ip) of DTPA-GLP was compared to glipizide (GLP) for up to 6 h.Results: The structure of DTPA-GLP was confirmed by NMR, mass spectrometry and HPLC. Radiochemical purity assessed by ITLC was >96%. (99m)Tc-DTPA-GLP showed increased pancreas-to-muscle ratios, whereas (99m)Tc-DTPA showed decreased ratios at various time points. Pancreas could be visualized with (99m)Tc-DTPA-GLP in normal rat, however, (99m)Tc-DTPA has poor uptake suggesting the specificity of (99m)Tc-DTPA-GLP. Pancreas beta cell uptake could be blocked by pre-treatment with streptozotocin. DTPA-GLP showed an equal or better response in lowering the glucose levels compared to the existing GLP drug.Conclusions: It is feasible to use (99m)Tc-DTPA-GLP to assess pancreas beta cell receptor recognition. Acquired Gitelman syndrome (GS) associated with Sjögren syndrome (SS) is rare, and the test to determine the pathophysiological state of acquired GS in patients with primary SS has not been reported previously. A 47-year-old woman with sicca complex presented to our clinic with intermittent muscle cramping and weakness involving both lower extremities over several months. Laboratory findings showed hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis, hypomagnesemia, and hypocalciuria, which met the criteria for GS. Diagnostic evaluation identified primary SS as the cause of the acquired GS. Light microscopic examination of renal tissue from the patient showed mild tubulointerstitial nephritis. Immunohistochemical staining of renal tissue showed the absence of the sodium-chloride cotransporter (NCCT) in the distal convoluted tubules. Incubation of the patient's serum with normal mouse kidney tissue showed a pattern of NCCT in the distal convoluted tubules similar to that of incubation of normal mouse kidney with the rabbit polyclonal anti-NCCT antibody. This is a rare case of acquired GS associated with primary SS, and our findings suggest the presence of circulating autoantibodies to NCCT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To evaluate the metabolic response of uterine cervix and pelvic lymph nodes (LNs) using consecutive 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) immediately after RT and to correlate survival outcome with the metabolic response. Methods and Materials: We retrospectively reviewed 48 patients with cervical cancer who had positive pelvic LNs by preradiation therapy (pre-RT) PET/CT. All patients underwent PET/CT scans immediately after RT (inter-RT PET/CT) after median 63 Gy to the gross LNs. The metabolic response of the LNs was assessed quantitatively and semiquantitatively by measurement of the maximal standardized uptake value (SUVmax). Results: Classifying the metabolic response of all nodal lesions, 37 patients (77%) had LNs with complete metabolic response on the inter-RT PET/CT (LNCMRi), and 11 patients had a non-LNCMRi, including 4 patients with progressive metabolic disease. The overall 3-year survival rates were 83% for the patients with LNCMRi and 73% for the non-LNCMRi group (P=.038). The disease-free survival for patients with LNCMRi were significantly better than that for the non-LNCMRi group (71% vs 18%, respectively, P<.001). The 3-year distant metastasis-free survival rates were 79% for the patients with LNCMRi and 27% for the non-LNCMRi group (P<.001). There were no statistically significant differences in overall survival (76% vs 86%, respectively, P=.954) and disease-free survival rates (58% vs 61%, respectively, P=.818) between the CMR of primary cervical tumor and the non-CMR groups. Conclusions: The results showed a significant correlation between survival outcome and the interim metabolic response of pelvic LNs. CMR of nodal lesion on inter-RT PET/CT had excellent overall survival, disease-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival rates. This suggested that PET/CT immediately after RT can be a useful tool for the evaluation of the interim response of the LNs and identify a subset of patients with a high risk of recurrence and poor survival in patients with cervical cancer with initial positive LNs. Abstract: Central precocious puberty secondary to Leydig cell tumors is rare in children. We retrospectively analyzed the mid- to long-term follow-up data of patients with Leydig cell tumors. The clinical data of 12 consecutive patients who were treated at Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University (Beijing, China), between January 2016 and October 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical evaluations, including physical examination, hormone examination, serum tumor marker analysis, abdominal and scrotal ultrasound, chest X-ray, and bone age measurement, were conducted before surgery and at follow-up time points. Surgical approaches were selected according to the individual conditions. Patients with an abnormal hormonal status and suspected of having central precocious puberty were referred to endocrinologists to confirm the diagnosis. Subsequently, gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog therapy was proposed. The mean patient age was 81.3 (range: 40-140) months at the time of the operation. Ten patients had peripheral precocious puberty at admission. All patients had elevated preoperative testosterone levels, whereas tumor marker levels were normal. Testis-sparing surgery was performed in eleven patients, and radical orchiectomy was performed in one patient. The follow-up duration (mean ± standard deviation) was 36.2 ± 25.3 months. Five patients had central precocious puberty, with a mean duration of 3.4 (range: 1-6) months postoperatively. Three patients were receiving gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog therapy, and good suppression of puberty was observed. No risk factors were found for secondary central precocious puberty. There was a high prevalence of central precocious puberty secondary to Leydig cell tumors in our study. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog therapy has satisfactory treatment effects. Introduction and Objectives: The current study aimed to evaluate the causal association between hemodynamically significant stenosis and the occurrence of ischemic myocardium using an experimental animal model of coronary artery stenosis., Methods: In Yorkshire swine (n = 10), coronary stenosis in the left anterior descending artery was induced using a customized vascular occluder to create varying degrees of occlusion severity (40%-99%). Serial changes in coronary pressure and flow velocity were measured in the left anterior descending artery before and after the implantation of the vascular occluder. At 1 month, 13N-ammonia positron emission tomography (PET) was performed, followed by the collection of isolated hearts for 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining to quantify the percent area of necrotic myocardium. Three animals in the control group were evaluated using the same protocols, but without the implantation of a vascular occluder Results: The median diameter stenosis after vascular occluder implantation was 61.3% (Q1-Q3: 55.9%-72.3%). Significant differences were observed in hyperemic stenosis resistance, fractional flow reserve (FFR), stress perfusion defect and reversibility in PET, as well as in necrotic myocardium in TTC staining based on stenosis severity (control group: < 50%, 50%-70%, 70%-90%, and > 90%) (all P < .010). Animals with FFR < 0.75 at 1 month exhibited a significantly higher area of stress perfusion defect (30.7 ± 3.1% vs 6.0 ± 4.2%, P < .001), reversibility in PET (11.0 ± 4.0% vs 0.0 ± 0.0%, P = .006), and necrotic myocardium in TTC staining (15.8 ± 6.4% vs 0.0 ± 0.0%, P < .001) than those with FFR ≥ 0.75., Conclusions: In a porcine model, the induction of hemodynamically significant stenosis with FFR < 0.75 was associated with the development of stress perfusion defects and reversibility in PET, as well as necrotic myocardium identified by pathology., (Copyright © 2024. Purpose: This study aimed to test whether the coronary artery calcium (CAC) burden on attenuation correction computed tomography (CTac), measured using artificial intelligence (AI-CACac), correlates with coronary flow capacity (CFC) and prognosis., Materials and Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients who underwent [ 13 N]ammonia positron emission tomography (PET) between September 2021 and May 2023. CTac data were obtained from all the patients. Patients with (history of) acute coronary syndrome, previous coronary stent insertion or bypass surgery, or left ventricular ejection fraction < 40% were excluded. The total Agatston score measured using a dedicated AI-CAC quantification software on CTac was defined as AI-CACac. The correlations between AI-CACac and PET-measured myocardial blood flow (MBF) and CFC and significant ischaemia (summed difference score ≥ 7) were analysed. Their prognostic values for major cardiovascular events (MACE), including death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, hospitalisation due to angina pectoris or heart failure, and late (> 90 days) revascularisation, were also evaluated., Results: In total, 289 patients were included in this study. Significant negative correlations were found between AI-CACac and stress MBF (ρ = -0.363, p < 0.001) and MFR (ρ = -0.305, p < 0.001). AI-CACac > 10 was associated with a significantly higher prevalence of impaired CFC (31% vs. 7%, p < 0.001) and significant ischaemia (20% vs. 7%), which remained significant after adjusting for other risk factors. MACE occurred in 49 (17%) patients (median follow-up, 284 days), and those who experienced MACE had significantly higher AI-CACac (median, 166 vs. 56; p = 0.039). Background: Complete transperitoneal nephroureterectomy (CTNU) in a single-position is an advanced surgical technique for the treatment of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), performed entirely through a transperitoneal approach without the need for patient repositioning. Indocyanine green (ICG) has been extensively studied in urologic surgery, with applications ranging from sentinel lymph node mapping to tumor localization. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of retrograde ureteral fluorescence imaging in CTNU., Methods: This retrospective cohort enrolled 81 patients diagnosed with UTUC and underwent single-position CTNU. Cohorts were divided into two groups according to whether the ICG was applied. Perioperative data and oncology outcomes were recorded and analyzed., Results: In total, 81 eligible participants were finally included, with 40 in the ICG group and 41 in the non-ICG group. The ICG group presented significantly shorter ureter identification time (8.5±3.3 vs. 17.3±4.2 min, P<0.001) and duration of surgery (132±40 vs. 162±49 min, P=0.003), as well as lower estimated blood loss (EBL) (108±94 vs. 183±126 mL, P=0.003) compared to the non-ICG group. The rates of intravesical and extravesical carcinoma recurrence were comparable between the two groups. At a median follow-up of 16.7 months, there were no significant differences in terms of the recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) between groups., Conclusions: ICG guided ureteral fluorescence imaging in single-position CTNU showed significant advantages in precisely and effectively locating the ureter, with improved surgical outcomes. Background: Although radiology reports are commonly used for lung cancer staging, this task can be challenging given radiologists' variable reporting styles as well as reports' potentially ambiguous and/or incomplete staging-related information. Objective: To compare performance of ChatGPT large-language models (LLMs) and human readers of varying experience in lung cancer staging using chest CT and FDG PET/CT free-text reports. Methods: This retrospective study included 700 patients (mean age, 73.8±29.5 years; 509 male, 191 female) from four institutions in Korea who underwent chest CT or FDG PET/CT for non-small cell lung cancer initial staging from January, 2020 to December, 2023. Examinations' reports used a free-text format, written exclusively in English or in mixed English and Korean. Two thoracic radiologists in consensus determined the overall stage group (IA, IB, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, IIIC, IVA, IVB) for each report using the AJCC 8th-edition staging system, establishing the reference standard. Three ChatGPT models (GPT-4o, GPT-4, GPT-3.5) determined an overall stage group for each report using a script-based application programming interface, zero-shot learning, and prompt incorporating a staging system summary. Six human readers (two fellowship-trained radiologists with lesser experience than the radiologists who determined the reference standard, two fellows, two residents) also independently determined overall stage groups. GPT-4o's overall accuracy for determining the correct stage among the nine groups was compared with that of the other LLMs and human readers using McNemar tests. Results: GPT-4o had an overall staging accuracy of 74.1%, significantly better than the accuracy of GPT-4 (70.1%, p=.02), GPT-3.5 (57.4%, p<.001), and resident 2 (65.7%, p<.001); significantly worse than the accuracy of fellowship-trained radiologist 1 (82.3%, p<.001) and fellowship-trained radiologist 2 (85.4%, p<.001); and not significantly different from the accuracy of fellow 1 (77.7%, p=.09), fellow 2 (75.6%, p=.53), and resident 1 (72.3%, p=.42). Conclusions: The best-performing model, GPT-4o, showed no significant difference in staging accuracy versus fellows, but significantly worse performance versus fellowship-trained radiologists. The findings do not support use of LLMs for lung cancer staging in place of expert healthcare professionals. Clinical Impact: The findings indicate the importance of domain expertise for performing complex specialized tasks such as cancer staging.

On 9 October 2022, the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) reported the observation of the very early TeV afterglow of the brightest-of-all-time gamma-ray burst 221009A, recording the highest photon statistics in the TeV band ever obtained from a gamma-ray burst. We use this unique observation to place stringent constraints on the energy dependence of the speed of light in vacuum, a manifestation of Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) predicted by some quantum gravity (QG) theories. Our results show that the 95% confidence level lower limits on the QG energy scales are E&#95;{QG,1}>10 times the Planck energy E&#95;{Pl} for the linear LIV effect, and E&#95;{QG,2}>6×10^{-8}E&#95;{Pl} for the quadratic LIV effect. Our limits on the quadratic LIV case improve previous best bounds by factors of 5-7.

In this Letter we try to search for signals generated by ultraheavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible γ rays by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of the LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter that have low fluxes of astrophysical γ-ray background while having large amount of dark matter. By analyzing more than 700 days of observational data at LHAASO, no significant dark matter signal from 1 TeV to 1 EeV is detected. Accordingly we derive the most stringent constraints on the ultraheavy dark matter annihilation cross section up to EeV. The constraints on the lifetime of dark matter in decay mode are also derived.

Wireless energy transfer (WET) based on ultrasound-driven generators with enormous beneficial functions, is technologically in progress by the valuation of ultrasonic metamaterials (UMMs) in science and engineering domains. Indeed, novel metamaterial structures can develop the efficiency of mechanical and physical features of ultrasound energy receivers (US-ETs), including ultrasound-driven piezoelectric and triboelectric nanogenerators (US-PENGs and US-TENGs) for advantageous applications. This review article first summarizes the fundamentals, classification, and design engineering of UMMs after introducing ultrasound energy for WET technology. In addition to addressing using UMMs, the topical progress of innovative UMMs in US-ETs is conceptually presented. Moreover, the advanced approaches of metamaterials are reported in the categorized applications of US-PENGs and US-TENGs. Finally, some current perspectives and encounters of UMMs in US-ETs are offered. With this objective in mind, this review explores the potential revolution of reliable integrated energy transfer systems through the transformation of metamaterials into ultrasound-driven active mediums for generators., (© 2024 The Authors. Self-powered electrical bandages (SEBs), integrated with wearable energy harvesters, can provide an effective and autonomous electrical stimulation (ES) solution for rapid and scarless wound healing. A continuously operating, wireless, and applicable-to-comprehensive-wound ES device is essential for the quick restoration of wounds and convenience. This work illustrates a SEB powered by body-coupled energy harvesting. The SEB continuously treats the wound with 60-Hz sinusoidal electrical potential gained from the coupling of the human body and ambient electrical waves. It is demonstrated that enough level of electrical potential can be applied to the wound, further enhanced by strong capacitive coupling arising from the use of high-permittivity poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene):CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 (P(VDF-TrFE):CCTO) nanocomposite. The potential clinical efficacy of the SEB is illustrated by preclinical analysis of human fibroblasts and mouse wound model, thus confirming the successful expedition of wound recovery. Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor ( EGFR ) mutation and c-ros oncogene 1 ( ROS1 ) rearrangement are key genetic alterations and predictive tumor markers for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and are typically considered to be mutually exclusive. EGFR/ROS1 co-mutation is a rare event, and the standard treatment approach for such cases is still equivocal., Case Summary: Herein, we report the case of a 64-year-old woman diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, with concomitant EGFR L858R mutation and ROS1 rearrangement. The patient received two cycles of chemotherapy after surgery, but the disease progressed. Following 1-month treatment with gefitinib, the disease progressed again. However, after switching to crizotinib, the lesion became stable. Currently, crizotinib has been administered for over 53 months with a remarkable treatment effect., Conclusion: The efficacy of EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors and crizotinib was vastly different in this NSCLC patient with EGFR / ROS1 co-mutation. Background: To date, carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) have been widely used for the screening, diagnosis and prediction of biliary tract cancer (BTC) patients. However, few studies with large sample sizes of carbohydrate antigen 50 (CA50) were reported in BTC patients., Methods: A total of 1121 patients from the Liver Cancer Clin-Bio Databank of Anhui Hepatobiliary Surgery Union between January 2017 and December 2022 were included in this study (673 in the training cohort and 448 in the validation cohort): among them, 458 with BTC, 178 with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), 23 with combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma, and 462 with nontumor patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy and clinical usefulness., Results: ROC curves obtained by combining CA50, CA19-9, and AFP showed that the AUC value of the diagnostic MODEL 1 was 0.885 (95% CI 0.856-0.885, specificity 70.3%, and sensitivity 84.0%) in the training cohort and 0.879 (0.841-0.917, 76.7%, and 84.3%) in the validation cohort. In addition, comparing iCCA and HCC (235 in the training cohort, 157 in the validation cohort), the AUC values of the diagnostic MODEL 2 were 0.893 (95% CI 0.853-0.933, specificity 96%, and sensitivity 68.6%) in the training cohort and 0.872 (95% CI 0.818-0.927, 94.2%, and 64.6%) in the validation cohort., Conclusion: The model combining CA50, CA19-9, and AFP not only has good diagnostic value for BTC but also has good diagnostic value for distinguishing iCCA and HCC., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: The objective of this study was to explore the perioperative outcomes of single-plane posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy (SPRA) guided by indocyanine green dye (ICG) fluorescence imaging. Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients who underwent SPRA from April to September 2023 in our center was conducted. Patients were divided into the ICG group and the non-ICG group, based on whether they received intraoperative ICG fluorescence guided or not. Baseline and perioperative data were recorded and analyzed by R software (R 4.3.1). Results: A total of 23 patients were enrolled in the study, with 12 in the ICG group and 11 in the non-ICG group. The demographics including age, gender, body mass index, or American Society of Anesthesiologists classification showed no significant differences between groups. There were obvious advantages in shortening adrenal gland localization time and total operative time, as well as reducing estimated blood loss in the ICG group compared with the non-ICG group (5.58 ± 0.36 minutes vs 7.55 ± 0.62 minutes, p  < 0.001; 27.50 ± 5.46 minutes vs 45.00 ± 10.99 minutes, p  < 0.001; 22.91 ± 7.57 mL vs 54.54 ± 18.90 mL, p  < 0.001; respectively). Furthermore, patients in the ICG group exhibited significantly lower visual analog pain scale scores at 24 hours postoperatively and at discharge ( p  = 0.001 and p  = 0.006, respectively). The oral intake intervals, hospital stays, and perioperative complications were comparable between groups. Conclusions: ICG-guided SPRA could be a safe and effective procedure for patients with adrenal tumors. This technique improves the accuracy and efficacy of adrenal gland localization and has shown benefits in perioperative outcomes. The use of ICG fluorescence guidance represents a promising clinical application.

We present the measurements of all-particle energy spectrum and mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays in the energy range of 0.3-30 PeV using data collected from LHAASO-KM2A between September 2021 and December 2022, which is based on a nearly composition-independent energy reconstruction method, achieving unprecedented accuracy. Our analysis reveals the position of the knee at 3.67±0.05±0.15  PeV. Below the knee, the spectral index is found to be -2.7413±0.0004±0.0050, while above the knee, it is -3.128±0.005±0.027, with the sharpness of the transition measured with a statistical error of 2%. The mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays is almost heavier than helium in the whole measured energy range. It decreases from 1.7 at 0.3 PeV to 1.3 at 3 PeV, representing a 24% decline following a power law with an index of -0.1200±0.0003±0.0341. This is equivalent to an increase in abundance of light components. Above the knee, the mean logarithmic mass exhibits a power law trend towards heavier components, which is reversal to the behavior observed in the all-particle energy spectrum. Additionally, the knee position and the change in power-law index are approximately the same. These findings suggest that the knee observed in the all-particle spectrum corresponds to the knee of the light component, rather than the medium-heavy components.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between 1p/16q loss of heterozygosity (LOH) and 1p gain in Wilms tumor and their clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis. Methods: A total of 175 Wilms tumor samples received from the Department of Pathology, Beijing Children's Hospital from September 2019 to August 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The histopathologic type and presence of lymph node involvement were evaluated by two pathologists. The clinical data including patients'gender, age, tumor location, preoperative chemotherapy, and tumor stage were summarized. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was done to detect 1p/16q LOH and 1p gain and their correlation with the clinicopathological features and prognosis were analyzed. Results: Among the 175 samples, 86 cases (49.1%) were male and 89 (50.9%) were female. The mean age was (3.5±2.9) years, and the median age was 2.6 years. There were 26 (14.9%) cases with 1p LOH, 28 (16.0%) cases with 16q LOH, 10 (5.7%) cases of LOH at both 1p and 16q, and 53 (30.3%) cases with 1q gain. 1q gain was significantly associated with 1p LOH ( P <0.01) and 16q LOH ( P <0.01). There were significant differences ( P <0.01) between 1q gain, 1p LOH and 16q LOH among different age groups. The rate of 16q LOH in the high-risk histopathological subtype (50.0%) was significantly higher than that in the intermediate-risk subtype (13.6%, P <0.05). The frequency of 1q gain, 1p LOH, and 16q LOH in children with advanced clinical stages (Ⅲ and Ⅳ) was significantly higher than that in children with early clinical stages (Ⅰ and Ⅱ). 1q gain, 1p LOH, and 16q LOH showed no significant correlation with gender, unilateral or bilateral disease, chemotherapy, or lymph node metastasis. The progression-free survival (PFS) time for patients with 1q gain and 1p LOH was significantly shorter than those without these aberrations ( P <0.05). Additionally, the PFS time of patients with 16q LOH was slightly shorter than those with normal 16q, although the difference was not statistically significant. Patients with stage Ⅲ to Ⅳ disease exhibiting 1q gain or 1p LOH had a significantly higher relative risk of recurrence, metastasis, and mortality. Conclusions: 1p/16q LOH and 1q gain are associated with age, high-risk histological type, and clinical stage in Wilms tumor. 1q gain and 1p LOH are significantly correlated with the prognosis of Wilms tumor.

Objective: To investigate the role of TWIK-related acid-sensitive potassium channels TASK-1 and TASK-3 in the mechanism of asthma combined with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in mice., Method: C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups: control group (NS-RA), asthma group (OVA-RA), OSA group (NS-IH), and asthma combined with OSA group (OVA-IH). After monitoring lung function in each group, the expression levels of TASK-1 and TASK-3 mRNA and protein in lung tissues were measured, and the correlation between the changes of both and lung function was analyzed., Results: A total of 64 male mice were studied. Penh, serum IgE concentrations, and the percentage of eosinophils in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were higher in OVA-RA and OVA-IH mice compared with NS-RA (P < 0.05),while the above indexes were slightly elevated in NS-IH mice compared with NS-RA (P > 0.05), where the Penh and the percentage of eosinophils in BALF was higher in OVA-IH mice than NS-IH (P < 0.05).Increased TASK-3 mRNA expression (P < 0.05) as well as TASK-1 and TASK-3 protein expression (P > 0.05) in lung tissues of OVA-RA and NS-IH mice compared with NS-RA, and TASK-3 mRNA expression was slightly more in the OVA-IH group compared with NS-RA (P > 0.05), but less compared with OVA-RA (P < 0.05) or NS-IH (P > 0.05), while TASK-1 and TASK-3 protein expression was increased in the OVA-IH group compared with the remaining three groups, and TASK-3 protein expression was associated with lung function impairment was positively correlated with the degree of lung function impairment (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Task-1 and Task-3 may be involved in the pathogenesis of asthma with OSA by affecting lung function., (© 2023. Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent malignancy globally and ranks second in cancer-related mortality, with the liver being the primary organ of metastasis. Preoperative chemotherapy is widely recommended for initially or potentially resectable colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs). Tumour pathological response serves as the most important and intuitive indicator for assessing the efficacy of chemotherapy. However, the postoperative pathological results reveal that a considerable number of patients exhibit a poor response to preoperative chemotherapy. Body mass index (BMI) is one of the factors affecting the tumorigenesis and progression of colorectal cancer as well as prognosis after various antitumour therapies. Several studies have indicated that overweight and obese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer experience worse prognoses than those with normal weight, particularly when receiving first-line chemotherapy regimens in combination with bevacizumab., Aim: To explore the predictive value of BMI regarding the pathologic response following preoperative chemotherapy for CRLMs., Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed in 126 consecutive patients with CRLM who underwent hepatectomy following preoperative chemotherapy at four different hospitals from October 2019 to July 2023. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to analyse potential predictors of tumour pathological response. The Kaplan-Meier method with log rank test was used to compare progression-free survival (PFS) between patients with high and low BMI. BMI < 24.0 kg/m 2 was defined as low BMI, and tumour regression grade 1-2 was defined as complete tumour response., Results: Low BMI was observed in 74 (58.7%) patients and complete tumour response was found in 27 (21.4%) patients. The rate of complete tumour response was significantly higher in patients with low BMI (29.7% vs 9.6%, P = 0.007). Multivariate analysis revealed that low BMI [odds ratio (OR) = 4.56, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.42-14.63, P = 0.011], targeted therapy with bevacizumab (OR = 3.02, 95%CI: 1.10-8.33, P = 0.033), preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen level < 10 ng/mL (OR = 3.84, 95%CI: 1.19-12.44, P = 0.025) and severe sinusoidal dilatation (OR = 0.17, 95%CI: 0.03-0.90, P = 0.037) were independent predictive factors for complete tumour response. Purpose: Bladder neck contracture (BNC) is a rare but intolerant complication after transurethral surgery of prostate. The present study aims to investigate the incidence and risk factors of BNC in patients diagnosed benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and following transurethral resection or enucleation of the prostate (TURP/TUEP)., Methods: This retrospective study included 1008 BPH individuals who underwent transurethral surgery of the prostate between January 2017 and January 2022. Patients' demographics, medical comorbidities, urologic characteristics, perioperative parameters, and the presence of BNC were documented. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to identify the risk factors., Results: A total of 2% (20/1008) BPH patients developed BNC postoperatively and the median occurring time was 5.8 months. Particularly, the incidences of BNC were 4.7% and 1.3% in patients underwent Bipolar-TURP and TUEP respectively. Preoperative urinary tract infection (UTI), elevated PSA, smaller prostate volume (PV), bladder diverticulum (BD), and B-TURP were significantly associated with BNC in the univariate analysis. Further multivariate logistic regression demonstrated preoperative UTI (OR 4.04, 95% CI 2.25 to 17.42, p < 0.001), BD (OR 7.40, 95% CI 1.83 to 31.66, p < 0.001), and B-TURP (OR 3.97, 95% CI 1.55 to 10.18, p = 0.004) as independent risk factors. All BNC patients were treated with transurethral incision of the bladder neck (TUIBN) combined with local multisite injection of betamethasone. During a median follow-up of 35.8 months, 35% (7/20) of BNC patients recurred at a median time of 1.8 months., Conclusion: BNC was a low-frequency complication following transurethral surgery of prostate. Preoperative UTI, BD, and B-TURP were likely independent risk factors of BNC. TUIBN combined with local multisite injection of betamethasone may be promising choice for BNC treatment., (© 2024. Extracellular matrix (ECM) undergoes dynamic inflation that dynamically changes ligand nanospacing but has not been explored. Here we utilize ECM-mimicking photocontrolled supramolecular ligand-tunable Azo + self-assembly composed of azobenzene derivatives (Azo + ) stacked via cation-π interactions and stabilized with RGD ligand-bearing poly(acrylic acid). Near-infrared-upconverted-ultraviolet light induces cis -Azo + -mediated inflation that suppresses cation-π interactions, thereby inflating liganded self-assembly. This inflation increases nanospacing of "closely nanospaced" ligands from 1.8 nm to 2.6 nm and the surface area of liganded self-assembly that facilitate stem cell adhesion, mechanosensing, and differentiation both in vitro and in vivo , including the release of loaded molecules by destabilizing water bridges and hydrogen bonds between the Azo + molecules and loaded molecules. Conversely, visible light induces trans -Azo + formation that facilitates cation-π interactions, thereby deflating self-assembly with "closely nanospaced" ligands that inhibits stem cell adhesion, mechanosensing, and differentiation. In stark contrast, when ligand nanospacing increases from 8.7 nm to 12.2 nm via the inflation of self-assembly, the surface area of "distantly nanospaced" ligands increases, thereby suppressing stem cell adhesion, mechanosensing, and differentiation. Long-term in vivo stability of self-assembly via real-time tracking and upconversion are verified. Recently, neuromorphic computing has been proposed to overcome the drawbacks of the current von Neumann computing architecture. Especially, spiking neural network (SNN) has received significant attention due to its ability to mimic the spike-driven behavior of biological neurons and synapses, potentially leading to low-power consumption and other advantages. In this work, we designed the indium-gallium-zinc oxide (IGZO) channel charge-trap flash (CTF) synaptic device based on a HfO 2 /Al 2 O 3 /Si 3 N 4 /Al 2 O 3 layer. Our IGZO-based CTF device exhibits synaptic functions with 128 levels of synaptic weight states and spike-timing-dependent plasticity. The SNN-restricted Boltzmann machine was used to simulate the fabricated CTF device to evaluate the efficiency for the SNN system, achieving the high pattern-recognition accuracy of 83.9%. We believe that our results show the suitability of the fabricated IGZO CTF device as a synaptic device for neuromorphic computing.

The diffuse Galactic γ-ray emission, mainly produced via interactions between cosmic rays and the interstellar medium and/or radiation field, is a very important probe of the distribution, propagation, and interaction of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. In this Letter, we report the measurements of diffuse γ rays from the Galactic plane between 10 TeV and 1 PeV energies, with the square kilometer array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Diffuse emissions from the inner (15°10  TeV). The energy spectrum in the inner Galaxy regions can be described by a power-law function with an index of -2.99±0.04, which is different from the curved spectrum as expected from hadronic interactions between locally measured cosmic rays and the line-of-sight integrated gas content. Furthermore, the measured flux is higher by a factor of ∼3 than the prediction. A similar spectrum with an index of -2.99±0.07 is found in the outer Galaxy region, and the absolute flux for 10≲E≲60  TeV is again higher than the prediction for hadronic cosmic ray interactions. The latitude distributions of the diffuse emission are consistent with the gas distribution, while the longitude distributions show clear deviation from the gas distribution. The LHAASO measurements imply that either additional emission sources exist or cosmic ray intensities have spatial variations.

Objective: The assessment of cortical integrity following renal injuries with planar Tc-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scintigraphy depends on measuring relatively decreased cortical uptake (i.e., split renal function [SRF]). We analyzed the additive values of the volumetric and quantitative analyses of the residual cortical integrity using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) compared to the planar scintigraphy., Materials and Methods: This prospective study included 47 patients (male:female, 32:15; age, 47 ± 22 years) who had non-operatively managed renal injuries and underwent DMSA planar and SPECT imaging 3-6 months after the index injury. In addition to planar SRF, SPECT SRF, cortical volume, and absolute cortical uptake were measured for the injured kidney and both kidneys together. The correlations of planar SRF with SPECT SRF and those of SRF with volumetric/quantitative parameters obtained with SPECT were analyzed. The association of SPECT parameters with renal function, grades of renal injuries, and the risk of renal failure was also analyzed., Results: SPECT SRF was significantly lower than planar SRF, with particularly higher biases in severe renal injuries. Planar and SPECT SRF (dichotomized with a cutoff of 45%) showed 19%-36% of discrepancies with volumetric and quantitative DMSA indices (when dichotomized as either high or low). Absolute cortical uptake of the injured kidney best correlated with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) at follow-up (ρ = 0.687, P < 0.001) with significant stepwise decreases by GFR strata (90 and 60 mL/min/1.73 m²). Total renal cortical uptake was significantly lower in patients with moderate-to-high risk of renal failure than those with low risk. However, SRF did not reflect GFR decrease below 60 mL/min/1.73 m² or the risk of renal failure, regardless of planar or SPECT (count- or volume-based SRF) imaging., Conclusion: Quantitative measurements of renal cortical integrity assessed with DMSA SPECT can provide more clinically relevant and comprehensive information than planar imaging or SRF alone., Competing Interests: The authors have no potential conflicts of interest to disclose., (Copyright © 2023 The Korean Society of Radiology.)

To evaluate and compare the outcomes and complications of three different surgical techniques for treating primary proximal hypospadias with ventral curvature (VC) ≥30°, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent primary repair of proximal hypospadias with VC ≥30° after degloving at Beijing Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University (Beijing, China) from January 2019 to January 2021. A total of 152 patients were divided into three groups: transverse preputial island flap (TPIF) combined with Duplay, modified Koyanagi, and staged TPIF, which were performed on 55, 16, and 81 patients, respectively. A total of 39 (25.7%) patients had complications. Complications rates were similar for the TPIF combined with the Duplay group (40.0%) and modified Koyanagi group (50.0%) but lower for the staged TPIF group (11.1%; P < 0.01). The incidence of urethrocutaneous fistulas was significantly higher in TPIF combined with Duplay group (21.8%) compared to staged TPIF group (4.9%; P = 0.01). In univariate analysis, the length of the urethral defect was the single factor that could predict complications; the cutoff was 4.55 cm. More patients in the long urethral defect group than in the short one had complications (34.1% vs 15.7%, P = 0.01). Aeromonas veronii is a zoonotic agent capable of infecting fish and mammals, including humans, posing a serious threat to the development of aquaculture and public health safety. Currently, few effective vaccines are available through convenient routes against A. veronii infection. Herein, we developed vaccine candidates by inserting MSH type VI pili B (MshB) from A. veronii as an antigen and cholera toxin B subunit (CTB) as a molecular adjuvant into Lactobacillus casei and evaluated their immunological effect as vaccines in a crucian carp (Carassius auratus) model. The results suggested that recombinant L. casei Lc-pPG-MshB and Lc-pPG-MshB-CTB can be stably inherited for more than 50 generations. Oral administration of recombinant L. casei vaccine candidates stimulated the production of high levels of serum-specific immunoglobulin M (IgM) and increased the activity of acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline phosphatase (AKP) superoxide dismutase (SOD), lysozyme (LZM), complement 3 (C3) and C4 in crucian carp compared to the control group (Lc-pPG612 group and PBS group) without significant changes. Moreover, the expression levels of interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) genes in the gills, liver, spleen, kidney and gut of crucian carp orally immunized with recombinant L. casei were significantly upregulated compared to the control groups, indicating that recombinant L. casei induced a significant cellular immune response. In addition, viable recombinant L. casei can be detected and stably colonized in the intestine tract of crucian carp. Particularly, crucian carp immunized orally with Lc-pPG-MshB and Lc-pPG-MshB-CTB exhibited higher survival rates (48% for Lc-pPG-MshB and 60% for Lc-pPG-MshB-CTB) and significantly reduced loads of A. veronii in the major immune organs after A. veronii challenge. Our findings indicated that both recombinant L. casei strains provide favorable immune protection, with Lc-pPG-MshB-CTB in particular being more effective and promising as an ideal candidate for oral vaccination., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Polymer-based nanocomposites are desirable materials for next-generation dielectric capacitors. 2D dielectric nanosheets have received significant attention as a filler. However, randomly spreading the 2D filler causes residual stresses and agglomerated defect sites in the polymer matrix, which leads to the growth of an electric tree, resulting in a more premature breakdown than expected. Therefore, realizing a well-aligned 2D nanosheet layer with a small amount is a key challenge; it can inhibit the growth of conduction paths without degrading the performance of the material. Here, an ultrathin Sr 1.8 Bi 0.2 Nb 3 O 10 (SBNO) nanosheet filler is added as a layer into poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) films via the Langmuir-Blodgett method. The structural properties, breakdown strength, and energy storage capacity of a PVDF and multilayer PVDF/SBNO/PVDF composites as a function of the thickness-controlled SBNO layer are examined. The seven-layered (only 14 nm) SBNO nanosheets thin film can sufficiently prevent the electrical path in the PVDF/SBNO/PVDF composite and shows a high energy density of 12.8 J cm -3 at 508 MV m -1 , which is significantly higher than that of the bare PVDF film (9.2 J cm -3 at 439 MV m -1 ). Some gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have a tera-electron volt (TeV) afterglow, but the early onset of this has not been observed. We report observations with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) of the bright GRB 221009A, which serendipitously occurred within the instrument's field of view. More than 64,000 photons >0.2 TeV were detected within the first 3000 seconds. The TeV flux began several minutes after the GRB trigger and then rose to a peak ~10 seconds later. This was followed by a decay phase, which became more rapid ~650 seconds after the peak. We interpret the emission using a model of a relativistic jet with half-opening angle of ~0.8°. This is consistent with the core of a structured jet and could explain the high isotropic energy of this GRB.

Serious climate changes and energy-related environmental problems are currently critical issues in the world. In order to reduce carbon emissions and save our environment, renewable energy harvesting technologies will serve as a key solution in the near future. Among them, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which is one of the most promising mechanical energy harvesters by means of contact electrification phenomenon, are explosively developing due to abundant wasting mechanical energy sources and a number of superior advantages in a wide availability and selection of materials, relatively simple device configurations, and low-cost processing. Significant experimental and theoretical efforts have been achieved toward understanding fundamental behaviors and a wide range of demonstrations since its report in 2012. As a result, considerable technological advancement has been exhibited and it advances the timeline of achievement in the proposed roadmap. Now, the technology has reached the stage of prototype development with verification of performance beyond the lab scale environment toward its commercialization. In this review, distinguished authors in the world worked together to summarize the state of the art in theory, materials, devices, systems, circuits, and applications in TENG fields. The great research achievements of researchers in this field around the world over the past decade are expected to play a major role in coming to fruition of unexpectedly accelerated technological advances over the next decade.

The energy crisis and global shift toward sustainability drive the need for sustainable technologies that utilize often-wasted forms of energy. A multipurpose lighting device with a simplistic design that does not need electricity sources or conversions can be one such futuristic device. This study investigates the novel concept of a powerless lighting device driven by stray magnetic fields induced by power infrastructure for obstruction warning light systems. The device consists of mechanoluminescence (ML) composites of a Kirigami-shaped polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomer, ZnS:Cu particles, and a magneto-mechano-vibration (MMV) cantilever beam. Finite element analysis and luminescence characterization of the Kirigami structured ML composites are discussed, including the stress-strain distribution map and comparisons between different Kirigami structures based on stretchability and ML characteristic trade-offs. By coupling a Kirigami-structured ML material and an MMV cantilever structure, a device that can generate visible light as luminescence from a magnetic field can be created. Significant factors that contribute to luminescence generation and intensity are identified and optimized. Furthermore, the feasibility of the device is demonstrated by placing it in a practical environment. This further proves the functionality of the device in harvesting weak magnetic fields into luminescence or light, without complicated electrical energy conversion steps., (© 2023 The Authors. 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have significant research interests in various novel applications due to their intriguing physicochemical properties. Notably, one of the 2D TMDs, SnS 2 , has superior chemiresistive sensing properties, including a planar crystal structure, a large surface-to-volume ratio, and a low electronic noise. However, the long-term stability of SnS 2 in humid conditions remains a critical shortcoming towards a significant degradation of sensitivity. Herein, it is demonstrated that the subsequent self-assembly of zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) can be achieved in situ growing on SnS 2 nanoflakes as the homogeneous porous materials. ZIF-8 layer on SnS 2 allows the selective diffusion of target gas species, while effectively preventing the SnS 2 from severe oxidative degradation. Molecular modeling such as molecular dynamic simulation and DFT calculation, further supports the mechanism of sensing stability and selectivity. From the results, the in situ grown ZIF-8 porous membrane on 2D materials corroborates the generalizable strategy for durable and reliable high-performance electronic applications of 2D materials., (© 2023 The Authors. Objective: To investigate the association between the urinary arsenic level and serum total testosterone in Chinese men aged 18 to 79 years. Methods: A total of 5 048 male participants aged 18 to 79 years were recruited from the China National Human Biomonitoring (CNHBM) from 2017 to 2018. Questionnaires and physical examinations were used to collect information on demographic characteristics, lifestyle, food intake frequency and health status. Venous blood and urine samples were collected to detect the level of serum total testosterone, urinary arsenic and urinary creatinine. Participants were divided into three groups (low, middle, and high) based on the tertiles of creatinine-adjusted urinary arsenic concentration. Weighted multiple linear regression was fitted to analyze the association of urinary arsenic with serum total testosterone. Results: The weighted average age of 5 048 Chinese men was (46.72±0.40) years. Geometric mean concentration (95% CI ) of urinary arsenic, creatinine-adjusted urinary arsenic and serum testosterone was 22.46 (20.08, 25.12) μg/L, 19.36 (16.92, 22.15) μg/g·Cr and 18.13 (17.42, 18.85) nmol/L, respectively. After controlling for covariates, compared with the low-level urinary arsenic group, the testosterone level of the participants in the middle-level group and the high-level group decreased gradually. The percentile ratio (95% CI ) was -5.17% (-13.14%, 3.54%) and -10.33% (-15.68%, -4.63). The subgroup analysis showed that the association between the urinary arsenic level and testosterone level was more obvious in the group with BMI<24 kg/m 2 group ( P interaction =0.023). Conclusion: There is a negative association between the urinary arsenic level and serum total testosterone in Chinese men aged 18 to 79 years.

Objective: To investigate the association of the levels of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) with frailty and its components among the elderly over 65 years old in 9 longevity areas of China. Methods: Cross-sectional data from the Health Ageing and Biomarkers Cohort Study (HABCS, 2017-2018) were used and the elderly over 65 years old were included in this study. Through questionnaire interview and physical examination, the information including demographic characteristics, behavior, diet, daily activity, cognitive function, and health status was collected. The association between hs-CRP and frailty and its components in the participants was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression model and restrictive cubic spline. Results: A total of 2 453 participants were finally included, the age was (84.8±19.8) years old. The median hs-CRP level was 1.13 mg/L and the prevalence of frailty was 24.4%. Compared with the low-level group (hs-CRP<1.0 mg/L), the OR (95% CI ) value of the high-level group (hs-CRP>3.0 mg/L) was 1.79 (1.35-2.36) mg/L. As for the components, the hs-CRP level was also positively associated with ADL disability, IADL disability, functional limitation and multimorbidity. After adjusting for confounding factors, compared with the low-level group, the OR (95% CI ) values of the high-level group for the four components were 1.68 (1.25-2.27), 1.88 (1.42-2.50), 1.68 (1.31-2.14) and 1.39 (1.12-1.72), respectively. Conclusion: There is a positive association between the levels of hs-CRP and the risk of frailty among the elderly over 65 years old in 9 longevity areas of China. The higher hs-CRP level may increase the risk of frailty by elevating the risk of four physical functional disabilities, namely ADL disability, IADL disability, functional limitation and multimorbidity.

Purpose: Delayed images may not be acquired due to severe pain, drowsiness, or worsening vital signs while waiting after blood pool imaging in three-phase bone scintigraphy. If the hyperemia in the blood pool image contains information from which increased uptake on the delayed images can be inferred, the generative adversarial network (GAN) can generate the increased uptake from the hyperemia. We attempted to apply pix2pix, a type of conditional GAN, to transform hyperemia into increased bone uptake., Methods: We enrolled 1464 patients who underwent three-phase bone scintigraphy for inflammatory arthritis, osteomyelitis, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), cellulitis, and recent bone injury. Blood pool images were acquired 10 min after intravenous injection of Tc-99 m hydroxymethylene diphosphonate, and delayed bone images were obtained after 3 h. The model was based on the open-source code of the pix2pix model with perceptual loss. Increased uptake in the delayed images generated by the model was evaluated using lesion-based analysis by a nuclear radiologist in areas consistent with hyperemia in the blood pool images., Results: The model showed sensitivities of 77.8% and 87.5% for inflammatory arthritis and CRPS, respectively. In osteomyelitis and cellulitis, their sensitivities of about 44% were observed. The increasing and intensifying ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation in sunlight is an environmental threat to aquatic ecosystems, potentially affecting the entire life cycle of wild or aquacultural Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas with photoreception. Due to its complex composition, plasma is an important biological specimen for investigating the degree of disturbance from its steady state caused by the external environment in the open-pipe-type hemolymph of mollusks. We performed a multi-omic analysis of C. gigas plasma exposed to daylight UVB radiation. Hub differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified using the functional classification of Clusters of Orthologous Groups of proteins (COGs) through the protein-protein interaction (PPI)-based maximal clique centrality (MCC) algorithm. Our results summarize three types of UVB influences (disruption of the cell membrane, promotion of nucleotide metabolism, and inhibition of energy metabolism) on C. gigas based on transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic analyses. The associated hub DEGs, DEPs (e.g., nucleoside diphosphate kinase, malate dehydrogenase, and hydroxyacyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase), and metabolites (e.g., uridine, adenine, deoxyguanosine, guanosine, and xylitol) in the plasma were identified as biomarkers of mollusk response to UVB radiation, and could be used to evaluate the influence of environmental UVB on mollusks in future studies., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors have no competing interests to declare., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier B.V. Background: Myocardial ischemia varies in chronic total occlusion (CTO) despite the occluded artery. We analyzed whether it is associated with the plaque characteristics of the occluded segment., Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 100 patients with CTO who underwent myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) within 2 months. CTO-related ischemia was classified as moderate to severe (summed difference score [SDS] of the CTO territory ≥ 5) or mild or none (SDS < 5) on SPECT. Using CCTA, the atherosclerotic plaques of the occluded segment were subdivided into low-density (- 100-30 HU), intermediate-density (31-350 HU), and high-density (351-1000 HU) plaques. The plaque composition was compared according to the severity of CTO-related ischemia., Results: Moderate-to-severe CTO-related ischemia (n = 23) showed significantly higher proportion of intermediate-density plaques (72.4% vs. 64.0%), intermediate/low-density (7.10 vs. 3.65) and intermediate-to-high/low-density (7.78 vs. 3.80) plaque ratios, frequent shorter occlusion (30% vs. 6%), and lower volume (26.5 mm 3 vs. 58.8 mm 3 ) and proportion (11.4% vs. 20.8%) of low-density plaques. Multivariable analysis revealed significant associations between higher proportion of intermediate-density plaques and moderate-to-severe CTO-related ischemia, independent of occlusion length., Conclusion: Higher proportion of intermediate-density plaques in the occluded segment was associated with the moderate-to-severe CTO-related ischemia., (© 2022. Background: Malnutrition is associated with adverse outcomes in patients on chronic haemodialysis. Thus, identifying accurate methods for diagnosing malnutrition is essential. The present retrospective study investigated the utility of the new Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria in patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis., Methods: Phase angle and fat-free mass index (FFMI) were derived using bioelectrical impedance analysis. Malnutrition was determined when the subjects had at least one phenotypic criterion (weight loss, low body mass index [BMI] or FFMI)., Results: This study included 103 patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis and 46 (44.7%) patients were diagnosed as malnourished. Malnutrition determined using the GLIM criteria was associated with increased risks of all-cause death (hazard ratio = 3.0, p = 0.044) and infection requiring hospitalisation (hazard ratio = 2.4, p = 0.015), independent of age, sex and comorbidities. However, malnutrition was not related to major adverse cardiovascular events (p = 0.908). We further evaluated the longitudinal changes in phenotypic parameters. Subjects with median levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein exceeding 5 mg L -1 exhibited decreased body weight and BMI (p = 0.015 and 0.016, respectively). In addition, body weight, BMI and FFMI were reduced in subjects with a median protein catabolic rate of < 1.0 mg kg -1 day -1 , even after adjustment for age, sex and comorbidities (p = 0.026, 0.053 and 0.039, respectively)., Conclusions: Malnutrition assessed using the GLIM criteria could be a useful predictor of mortality and infection in patients on chronic haemodialysis. An innovative autonomous resonance-tuning (ART) energy harvester is reported that utilizes adaptive clamping systems driven by intrinsic mechanical mechanisms without outsourcing additional energy. The adaptive clamping system modulates the natural frequency of the harvester's main beam (MB) by adjusting the clamping position of the MB. The pulling force induced by the resonance vibration of the tuning beam (TB) provides the driving force for operating the adaptive clamp. The ART mechanism is possible by matching the natural frequencies of the TB and clamped MB. Detailed evaluations are conducted on the optimization of the adaptive clamp tolerance and TB design to increase the pulling force. The energy harvester exhibits an ultrawide resonance bandwidth of over 30 Hz in the commonly accessible low vibration frequency range (<100 Hz) owing to the ART function. The practical feasibility is demonstrated by evaluating the ART performance under both frequency and acceleration-variant conditions and powering a location tracking sensor., (© 2022 The Authors.
