Objectives Research on the distribution of and the variation in coronal plane alignment of the knee (CPAK) in the Chinese osteoarthritis population is limited. We aimed to establish the CPAK classification based on the characteristics of lower limb alignment in the Chinese osteoarthritis population. We also investigated variations in lower limb alignment parameters and CPAK phenotypes based on gender, body mass index (BMI), and age. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on a total of 944 knees diagnosed with osteoarthritis in 479 patients from January 2017 to December 2023. A scatterplot was used to describe the distribution of the CPAK classification, and the differences in lower limb alignment parameters and the CPAK classification were compared across genders (male, female), ages (middle‐aged/ 0.05). Although there were variations in alignment parameters across different genders and BMI categories in the knee osteoarthritis population, the predominant CPAK classifications were type I (38.03%), followed by type II (20.02%) and type IV (17.06%). Conclusion The most common CPAK types were I, II, and IV, and they were not influenced by gender, BMI, or age, indicating that the CPAK classification can reliably reflect constitutional alignment. A better understanding of native alignment variability can aid in providing patient‐specific recommendations when considering orthopedic alignment strategies.

Objectives Due to the technical challenges associated with femoral reconstruction in total hip arthroplasty for patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), the exact indications for using femoral modular stems, despite their satisfactory clinical outcomes, remain poorly investigated. This study sought to assess the morphology of the femur and acetabulum, and to investigate the discriminative ability of femoral anteversion (FA), acetabular anteversion (AA), and combined anteversion (CA) on the selection of femoral modular stem in dysplastic hips. Methods Retrospective data were collected from multiple centers on a total of 230 cases who underwent THA due to DDH from January 1, 2020, to March 1, 2023. There were 46 males and 184 females, with an average age of 51.57 ± 14.87. Patients were stratified according to Crowe and Eftekhar classifications. FA, AA, and CA were measured using computed tomography (CT). The distribution of these indices in different grades of dysplastic hips was compared, and the correlation between these indices and the selection of femoral modular stem was analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and likelihood statistics were performed to investigate the discriminating and predictive value of each index in selecting modular stem. Results Two hundred and thirty hips were included in the study. FA increased as the subluxation percentage increased: type I, 21.5°; type II, 28.6°; type III, 34.9°; and type IV, 39.7°. AA was smaller in type I (16.9°) and higher in types II, III, and IV (18.9–22.6°). The area under the curve for the modular stem was 0.87 for FA, 0.86 for CA, and 0.65 for AA. The optimal cutoff values were FA > 32.6°, CA > 50.7°, and AA > 23.3°. Conclusion Excessive AA and femoral anteversion FA were observed in Crowe types II, III, and IV cases. FA and CA demonstrated strong discriminative ability and predictive value in the selection of a modular stem. The best cutoff values were ≥32.6° for FA and ≥50.7° for CA in discriminating the use of modular stem. Surgeons may contemplate the use of a modular stem when the preoperative evaluation approaches the cutoff value.

Abstract Background Reinfection rates after two-stage revision (TSR) for prosthetic joint infection (PJI) range from 7.9 to 14%. Many factors, including sinus tracts, are associated with reinfection after this procedure. This study aimed to delineate whether the presence of sinus tract could increase reinfection rate after TSR and to investigate other potential risk factors for reinfection after TSR. Methods We conducted a case-control study by retrospectively reviewing patients who underwent TSR for prosthetic hip joint infection from 2002 to 2022. The case group included patients who developed reinfection after TSR, while the control group consisted of patients who did not experience reinfection. PJI and reinfection after TSR were defined based on Delphi-based international consensus criteria. Patient demographics, past medical history, clinical manifestations, laboratory results, interval between stages, microbiological culture results were collected. Univariate analyses were utilized to assess the effect of sinus tract on reinfection and to identify other risk factors for reinfection after TSR. Results Six patients with reinfection after TSR were included as the case group and 32 patients without reinfection were in the control group. Significant difference was observed in percentage of patients with sinus tracts between the two groups (67% in the case group versus 19% in the control group, p = 0.031, OR = 8.7). Significant difference was also found in percentage of patients with positive cultures of synovial fluid and synovium harvested during the first-stage revision between the two groups (100% in the case group versus 50% in the control group, p = 0.030). Additionally, patients in the case group had a significantly higher C-reactive protein (CRP) level prior to the second stage revision than that of patients in the control group (8.80 mg/L versus 2.36 mg/L, p = 0.005), despite normal CRP levels in all patients. Conclusions Our study revealed that the presence of sinus tracts could significantly increase risk of postoperative reinfection after TSR. Positive cultures during the first stage revision and elevated CRP level prior to the second stage revision could also increase the risk of reinfection after TSR. Abstract This study investigates the effects of sea spray on extreme precipitation forecast in Beijing of China between 28 July and 2 August 2023 as a case test. In this case, fully coupled model increased upward moisture in the Bohai and Yellow Seas and increased accumulated rainfall by 21% in North China. For the extreme precipitation events with the 5‐day accumulated precipitation exceeding 500 mm, the atmosphere‐only model did not forecast the events; the coupled model without sea spray performed well with the 0.29 threat score (TS) and 88 mm root mean square error (RMSE); in the fully coupled model, the effects of sea spray increased atmospheric instability, which increased the precipitation around Beijing and yielded a more accurate forecast with the 0.37 TS and 65 mm RMSE. This paper suggests a scientific clue to improve numerical simulation for extreme rainfall events, however, more cases are still needed for statistical evaluation.

The effects of skyscraper development on surrounding firms' innovation in China is assessed in this paper, and empirical results show that skyscraper development significantly promotes the innovation of firms within 1 ​km of skyscrapers. However, such effect only exists around very tall skyscrapers in large cities. This means that skyscraper development in small cities often is unfit for the economic fundamentals of these cities, which may weaken the positive externalities generated by skyscrapers. The mechanism analysis in this paper shows that increased surrounding population density brought by skyscraper development and knowledge sharing between firms surrounding the skyscrapers and other firms in the same city are the main paths through which skyscrapers affect innovation.

Abstract Electrochemical reactions represent essential processes in fundamental chemistry that foster a wide range of applications. Although most electrochemical reactions in bulk substances can be well described by the classical Marcus-Gerischer charge transfer theory, the realistic reaction character and mechanism in dimensionally confined systems remain unknown. Here, we report the multiparametric survey on the kinetics of lateral photooxidation in structurally identical WS2 and MoS2 monolayers, where electrochemical oxidation occurs at the atomically thin monolayer edges. The oxidation rate is correlated quantitatively with various crystallographic and environmental parameters, including the density of reactive sites, humidity, temperature, and illumination fluence. In particular, we observe distinctive reaction barriers of 1.4 and 0.9 eV for the two structurally identical semiconductors and uncover an unusual non-Marcusian charge transfer mechanism in these dimensionally confined monolayers due to the limit in reactant supplies. A scenario of band bending is proposed to explain the discrepancy in reaction barriers. These results add important knowledge into the fundamental electrochemical reaction theory in low-dimensional systems.

Structured light three-dimensional reconstruction is one of the important methods for non-contact acquisition of sparse texture object surfaces. Variations in ambient illumination and disparities in object surface reflectance can significantly impact the fidelity of three-dimensional reconstruction, introducing considerable inaccuracies. We introduce a robust method for color speckle structured light encoding, which is based on a variant of the De Bruijn sequence, termed the Homogeneous De Bruijn Sequence. This innovative approach enhances the reliability and accuracy of structured light techniques for three-dimensional reconstruction by utilizing the distinctive characteristics of Homogeneous De Bruijn Sequences. Through a pruning process applied to the De Bruijn sequence, a structured light pattern with seven distinct color patches is generated. This approach ensures a more equitable distribution of speckle information.

The present study explored the effects of inositol on growth performance, body composition, antioxidant performance, and lipid metabolism of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). Six isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets containing 0 mg/kg (G1, control), 125 mg/kg (G2), 250 mg/kg (G3), 375 mg/kg (G4), 500 mg/kg (G5), and 625 mg/kg (G6) inositol were prepared and fed to cultured fish (initial weight: 110 ± 1 g) for 8 weeks in recirculating the aquaculture systems. The results indicated that compared with G1 group, the weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), and feed efficiency rate (FER) in the G3 group were significantly higher. The crude lipid content of the whole fish and the liver of cultured fish was significantly reduced with increasing dietary inositol inclusion. However, no significant effects on moisture, crude protein, and ash contents of fish were observed among the different groups. Dietary inositol supplementation significantly increased muscular crude protein. However, muscular total lipid contents were decreased when the inclusion level was higher than 250 mg/kg (G3–G6 groups). As dietary inositol supplemental level increased, serum triglyceride (TG), and cholesterol (TC) contents showed an increasing trend and reached the maximum value in the G3 group. Additionally, serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in G2, G3, G4, and G5 groups was significantly upregulated by increasing inositol. While, there was no significant change in serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) among the treatments. Inositol inclusion also significantly reduced the serum alkaline phosphatase (AKP), glutamic–pyruvic transaminase (ALT), and glutamic–oxaloacetic transaminase (AST) activities as well as serum malondialdehyde (MDA) content but significantly increased serum catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC). Compared with the control group, the activities of hepatic total lipase (TL) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) were significantly elevated in the G3, G4, and G5 groups. Above all, dietary inositol supplementation could improve growth performance and antioxidant capacity, and reduce the liver fat content of largemouth bass, and the optimal supplementation level of inositol in feed is estimated to be 250.31–267.27 mg/kg.

Objective Poliomyelitis is a rare neuromuscular disease that can cause hip osteoarthritis on the contralateral side due to an abnormal mechanical weight‐bearing state, making some residual poliomyelitis patients candidates for total hip arthroplasty (THA). The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcome of THA in the nonparalytic limbs of these patients compared with those of non‐poliomyelitis patients. Methods Patients treated between January 2007 and May 2021 were retrospectively identified in a single center arthroplasty database. Eight residual poliomyelitis cases that met the inclusion criteria were matched to non‐poliomyelitis cases in a ratio of 1:2 based on age, sex, body mass index (BMI), age‐adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (aCCI), surgeon, and operation date. The hip function, health‐related quality of life, radiographic outcomes, and complications were analyzed with unpaired Student's t test, Mann–Whitney test, Fisher's exact test or analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Survivorship analysis was determined using the Kaplan–Meier estimator analysis and Gehan‐Breslow‐Wilcoxon test. Results After a mean follow‐up of about 5 years, patients with residual poliomyelitis had worse postoperative mobility outcomes(P 0.05). There was no difference in radiographic outcomes or complications between the two groups, and patients had similar postoperative satisfaction (P > 0.05). No readmission or reoperation occurred in the poliomyelitis group (P > 0.05), but the postoperative limb length discrepancy (LLD) in the residual poliomyelitis group was greater than that in the control group (P

Objectives Mechanical alignment (MA)‐total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has been challenged due to the excessive soft tissue release and the evidence of the clinical outcomes of computer assisted navigation is still limited. The aim of this ambispective cohort study was to: (i) investigate whether computer assisted navigation is capable to achieve restricted kinematic alignment (rKA)‐TKA; and (ii) compare the short‐term outcomes between rKA‐TKA and MA‐TKA. Methods We retrospectively included 41 patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis who received MA‐TKA between April 2019 and January 2021 and 43 patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis who received rKA‐TKA were included in the prospective cohort from January 2021 to September 2021. Demographical, peri‐operative, and radiological data were collected and compared. Unpaired two‐sample t‐test for continuous variables and χ2 test for categorical variables were used to compare various measurements in two groups. The patient‐reported outcome measures at baseline, 10 days (T1), and 6 months (T6) after surgery were statistically analyzed by generalized estimating equation (GEE) models. Results Fourty‐one patients (45 knees) and 43 patients (48 knees) were included in the MA and the rKA group respectively. Three constitutional knee phenotypes (II, I, IV) were the commonest in our population. Navigation improved the surgical accuracy (1.5° vs 3.5°, p < 0.001) and precision (interquartile range 4.0 vs 2.0, p < 0.001) in the rKA group than the MA group. The changes in Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score 12 (KOOS12), EuroQol five‐dimension questionnaire (EQ5D) from baseline to T1 and T6 for patients with on‐target rKA were larger than on‐target MA counterparts (26.053 vs 18.607, P < 0.001(KOOS12, T1), 0.457 vs 0.367 p < 0.001(EQ5D, T1); 51.017 vs 46.896, P = 0.023(KOOS12, T6), 0.606 vs 0.565, P = 0.01(EQ5D, T6)). Patients with on‐target rKA had better Forgotten Joint Score (FJS) at T1 (54.126 vs 40.965, P = 0.002) compared with on‐target MA counterparts. Conclusions Computer assisted navigation achieved the level of accuracy required by rKA‐TKA. rKA‐TKA offered significantly better short‐term outcomes than MA‐TKA.

The textural roughness of asphalt pavement surface is an important indicator to characterize pavement skid resistance. In this paper, multi-visual technology was applied to capture the surface image of asphalt pavement which was transformed into a visualized 3D point cloud model. Then, based on the principle of the digital elevation model (DEM), the disordered 3D point cloud is rasterized and projected into a 2D matrix which contains generalized point cloud elevation information. Meanwhile, the 2D matrix is transformed into grayscale to build the equivalent grayscale image. Furthermore, the fractal dimensions were calculated in terms of one-dimensional pavement section profile, two-dimensional grayscale, and equivalent grayscale to characterize the pavement roughness. The results showed that the fractal dimensions are positively correlated with the mean texture depth (MTD), and the fractal dimension of equivalent grayscale has the best correlation with MTD. It should be highlighted that the equivalent grayscale image is directly transformed by the reconstruction of the three-dimensional point cloud, and the grayscale value of each point can represent the elevation of different pavement surfaces. Therefore, the equivalent grayscale image can better reflect the real roughness of the pavement surface. Meanwhile, the proposed method in this paper can effectively reduce the influence of some factors (e.g., light and color, etc..) on the texture detection of the pavement surface.

Lonicera caerulea var. edulis, known as “blue honeysuckle” or “Haskap,” is a deciduous shrub that belongs to the Caprifoliaceae family. Characterized by the high cold hardiness and high quality of fruit, it has become a novel cash crop in cold regions worldwide. The lack of available chloroplast (cp) genome information limits studies of its molecular breeding and phylogeny. Here, the complete cp genome of Lonicera caerulea var. edulis was assembled and characterized for the first time. It was 155,142 bp in length with 38.43% of GC content, including 23,841 bp inverted repeat regions (IRs), an 88,737 bp large single-copy region (LSC), and an 18,723 bp small single-copy region (SSC). A total of 132 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 39 tRNA genes were annotated. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that L. caerulea var. edulis was closely related to L. tangutica. These data and results provide a valuable resource for the development of breeding tools and genetic diversity studies for L. caerulea.

The exciton Mott transition refers to a transition from an insulating state of gas-like excitons to strongly correlated electron-hole plasma phases in photoexcited semiconductors. The changes of active components and antioxidant activity of the supernatant during Lactobacillus casei fermentation were studied using Euryales ferox as raw material. The pH, titratable acid, peptide yield, molecular weight distribution of peptides, free amino acid composition, total phenols, total flavonoids, and antioxidant activity changes of supernatant during the fermentation of Euryales ferox by L. casei were investigated, and the correlation between each component and antioxidant activity were analyzed. The results showed that during the fermentation process, the pH tended to decrease, while the titratable acid content gradually increased, reaching 3.97±0.02 and 2.53±0.04 mL/g after 48 h of fermentation, respectively. Background Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum), red currant (R. rubrum), white currant (R. rubrum), and gooseberry (R. uva-crispa) belong to Grossulariaceae and are popular small-berry crops worldwide. The lack of genomic data has severely limited their systematic classification and molecular breeding. Methods The complete chloroplast (cp) genomes of these four taxa were assembled for the first time using MGI-DNBSEQ reads, and their genome structures, repeat elements and protein-coding genes were annotated. By genomic comparison of the present four and previous released five Ribes cp genomes, the genomic variations were identified. By phylogenetic analysis based on maximum-likelihood and Bayesian methods, the phylogeny of Grossulariaceae and the infrageneric relationships of the Ribes were revealed. Results The four cp genomes have lengths ranging from 157,450 to 157,802 bp and 131 shared genes. A total of 3,322 SNPs and 485 Indels were identified from the nine released Ribes cp genomes. Red currant and white currant have 100% identical cp genomes partially supporting the hypothesis that white currant (R. rubrum) is a fruit color variant of red currant (R. rubrum). The most polymorphic genic and intergenic region is ycf1 and trnT-psbD, respectively. The phylogenetic analysis demonstrated the monophyly of Grossulariaceae in Saxifragales and the paraphyletic relationship between Saxifragaceae and Grossulariaceae. Notably, the Grossularia subgenus is well nested within the Ribes subgenus and shows a paraphyletic relationship with the co-ancestor of Calobotrya and Coreosma sections, which challenges the dichotomous subclassification of the Ribes genus based on morphology (subgenus Ribes and subgenus Grossularia). These data, results, and insights lay a foundation for the phylogenetic research and breeding of Ribes species.

Abstract Background The prognosis of thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) currently relies on the commonly adopted WHO classification and Masaoka staging system, which cannot reflect the undefined biological behaviors limiting them as prognostic factors. Methods In this study, we first identified 40 genes and 179 genes, respectively that were epigenetically upregulated and silenced, corresponding to a total of 509 functionally methylated CpG sites between thymomas and thymic carcinomas by using the TCGA dataset. Results The methylation β‐values of cg20068620 in MAPK4 and cg18770944 in USP51 were significantly associated with recurrence‐free survival (RFS). In the independent validation cohort, only WHO classification and methylation β‐values of cg20068620 in MAPK4 were independent prognostic factors for RFS in Chinese patients with TETs. A linear weighted model including these two factors was used to calculate the recurrence risk score (RRS). Time‐dependent ROC curve analysis revealed that RRS was overwhelmingly superior to WHO classification for predicting 3‐, 5‐, and 10‐year RFS and Masaoka stage for 3‐ and 5‐year RFS. Conclusions These results suggested that the methylation site cg20068620 in MAPK4 can improve the accuracy of the WHO classification alone regarding the prognostic value of TETs recurrence.

In this study, colorimetric and antioxidant films were developed by using cassava starch (CS), κ-carrageenan (KC) and black nightshade fruit anthocyanins (BNA), and their physical and functional properties were investigated. We found BNA presented significant color changes in different pH solutions. And incorporation of BNA significantly increased the tensile strength, water vapor permeability, UV–vis light barrier property, pH-sensitivity and antioxidant activity of CS-KC film. Results of structural characterization indicated that H-bonds were formed between CS, KC and BNA in films and the film compactness was significantly improved by BNA incorporation. Results of the rheological property assay showed the films had high apparent viscosity with an obvious shear-thinning behavior. When applied to monitoring the quality change of Cyclina sinensis, CS-KC-BNA films exhibited significant color changes with the degradation process of C. sinensis qualities. Our results suggested CS-KC-BNA films could be utilized in smart packaging in food industry.

Objective This study aims to compare the accuracy of CT‐based preoperative planning with that of acetate templating in predicting implant size, neck length, and neck cut length, and to evaluate the reproducibility of the two methods. Methods This prospective study was conducted between August 2020 and March 2021. Patients who underwent elective primary total hip arthroplasty by a single surgeon were assessed for eligibility. The included patients underwent both acetate templating and CT‐based planning by two observers after the operation. Each observer conducted both acetate templating and CT‐based planning twice for each case. The outcome measures included the following: (1) the accuracy of surgical planning in predicting implant size, calcar length, and neck length, which was defined as the difference between the planned size and length and the actual size and length; (2) reproducibility of the two planning techniques, which were assessed by inter‐observer and intra‐observer reliability analysis; (3) the influence of potential confounding factors on planning accuracy, which was evaluated using generalized estimating equations. Background: Accurate preoperative planning for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is crucial. Computed tomography (CT)-based preoperative planning offers more comprehensive information and can also be used to design patient-specific instrumentation (PSI), but it requires well-reconstructed and segmented images, and the process is complex and time-consuming. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) preoperative planning and PSI system for TKA and to validate its time savings and accuracy in clinical applications. Methods: The 3D-UNet and modified HRNet neural network structures were used to develop the AI preoperative planning and PSI system (AIJOINT). Forty-two patients who were scheduled for TKA underwent both AI and manual CT processing and planning for component sizing, 20 of whom had their PSIs designed and applied intraoperatively. The time consumed and the size and orientation of the postoperative component were recorded. Results: The Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and loss function indicated excellent performance of the neural network structure in CT image segmentation. AIJOINT was faster than conventional methods for CT segmentation (3.74 ± 0.82 vs. 128.88 ± 17.31 min, p < 0.05) and PSI design (35.10 ± 3.98 vs. 159.52 ± 17.14 min, p < 0.05) without increasing the time for size planning. The accuracy of AIJOINT in planning the size of both femoral and tibial components was 92.9%, while the accuracy of the conventional method in planning the size of the femoral and tibial components was 42.9% and 47.6%, respectively (p < 0.05). In addition, AI-based PSI improved the accuracy of the hip–knee–ankle angle and reduced postoperative blood loss (p < 0.05). Conclusion: AIJOINT significantly reduces the time needed for CT processing and PSI design without increasing the time for size planning, accurately predicts the component size, and improves the accuracy of lower limb alignment in TKA patients, providing a meaningful supplement to the application of AI in orthopaedics.

Blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.) is an emerging fruit crop; however, determining its proper harvest time in commercial cultivation remains challenging due to its rapid fruit development characteristics. In this study, we investigated 17 agronomic traits of three blue honeysuckle cultivars harvested on 5 successive dates within their respective harvest windows. ‘Lanjingling’, ‘Wulan’, and ‘Berel’ showed solid–acid ratios (SS:TA) ranging from 10.00 to 16.01, 8.13 to 10.23, and 5.77 to 7.11, respectively; anthocyanin contents ranged from 233.85 to 276.83 mg/100 g, 236.38 to 312.23 mg/100 g, and 235.71 to 334.98 mg/100 g, respectively; vitamin C contents ranged from 88.43 to 99.68 mg/100 g, 108.13 to 191.23 mg/100 g, and 89.71 to 120.40 mg/100 g, respectively; phenolic contents ranged from 25.22 to 37.59 mg/g, 25.40 to 36.52 mg/g, and 37.66 to 50.00 mg/g, respectively. The results revealed the SS:TA value consistently increased with delayed harvesting and were significantly negatively correlated with fruit firmness, total acidity, shelf life, and respiration intensity, suggesting it is an ideal maturity indicator for blue honeysuckle berries. The factor analysis suggests that the suitable harvest date for ‘Lanjingling’ could be either 47 days after flowering (DAF) with an SS:TA value of approximately 10.0, characterized by high firmness, extended shelf life, and elevated levels of anthocyanins and phenolics; or 67 DAF (SS:TA ≈ 16.0), characterized by high vitamin C content and sweetness, and larger size and weight. For ‘Wulan’, it suggests the suitable harvest date is either 54 DAF (SS:TA ≈ 9.0), yielding fruit with high levels of anthocyanins and vitamin C; or 62 DAF (SS:TA > 10.0), yielding fruit with high sweetness and large size and weight. For ‘Berel’, it is suggested to be either 52 DAF (SS:TA ≈ 6.5), resulting in fruit with high levels of anthocyanins and vitamin C; or 62 DAF (SS:TA > 7.0), resulting in balanced levels of the fruit quality traits.

Abstract The pharmacological interventions aimed at activating pathways inducing chondrocyte autophagy or reversing extracellular matrix degradation may be promising approaches for the management of osteoarthritis (OA). Evidence exists suggesting that sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is involved in the pathogenesis of OA. The present study aimed to explore the regulatory role and downstream mechanisms of SIRT1 in OA. Bioinformatics predictions identified downstream factors phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in OA. We validated poorly expressed SIRT1 and EGFR and highly expressed PTEN in cartilage tissues of OA patients. OA was induced in vitro by exposing human primary chondrocytes to IL-1β and in vivo by destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) in a mouse model. SIRT1 knockdown was found to augment IL-1β-stimulated inflammation and chondrocyte metabolic imbalance. Knockdown of SIRT1 diminished PTEN acetylation and then enhanced PTEN expression. PTEN inactivation decreased EGFR ubiquitination and promoted EGFR expression by destabilizing the EGFR-Cbl complex, which in turn inhibited extracellular matrix degradation in cartilage tissues and activated chondrocyte autophagy. In the DMM mouse model, knockdown of SIRT1 inhibited chondrocyte autophagy, promoted metabolic imbalance, thus accelerating osteoarthritic process. In conclusion, SIRT1 represses the ubiquitination of EGFR by down-regulating PTEN, inhibits extracellular matrix degradation and activates chondrocyte autophagy, thereby performing an OA-alleviating role.

Abstract Objective High tibial osteotomy (HTO) has been used for the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis. However, the successful implementation of HTO requires precise intraoperative positioning, which places greater requirements on the surgeon. In this study, we aimed to design a new kind of 3D-printed patient-specific instrument (PSI) for HTO, including a positioning device and an angle bracing spacer, and verify its effectiveness using cadaveric specimens. Methods This study included ten fresh human lower-limb cadaveric specimens. Computed tomography (CT) and X-ray examinations were performed to make preoperative plans. PSI was designed and 3D-printed according to the preoperative plan. Then, the PSI was used to guide HTO. Finally, we performed X-ray and CT after the operation to verify its validity and accuracy. Results The PSI using process was adjusted according to the pre-experimental procedure in 1 case. Hinge fracture occurred in 1 case. According to X-rays of the remaining eight cadaveric specimens, no statistically significant difference was noted between the preoperative planning medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA) and postoperative MPTA (P > 0.05) or the preoperative and postoperative posterior slope angle (PSA) (P > 0.05). According to the CT of 10 cadaveric specimens, no statistically significant difference was noted between the design angle and actual angle, which was measured according to the angle between the osteotomized line and the cross section (P > 0.05). The gap between the designed osteotomy line and the actual osteotomy line was 2.09 (0.8 ~ 3.44) mm in the coronal plane and 1.58 (0.7 ~ 2.85) mm in the sagittal plane. Conclusion This 3D-printed PSI of HTO accurately achieves the angle and position of the preoperative plan without increasing the stripping area. However, its use still requires a certain degree of proficiency to avoid complications, such as hinge fracture.

Blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.), which belongs to the Caprifoliaceae family, is an emerging fruit crop worldwide. For the development of a transgenic system and multipurpose tissue culture, this study for the first time established an in vitro regeneration system via somatic embryogenesis, as well as improving the previously established indirect organogenesis-based regeneration system. For embryogenesis, Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) showed the highest induction rate of the embryogenic callus (97.6%), and MS supplemented with 0.1 mg/L 6-benzyladenine (6-BA), 0.1 mg/L α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), and 0.5 g/L activated carbon (AC) achieved the highest somatic embryo rate (28.3%). For indirect organogenesis, MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L 6-BA and 0.1 mg/L NAA resulted in the highest non-embryogenic callus induction rate (98.9%) and adventitious shoot induction rate (51.6%). For adventitious root induction, MS supplemented with 1.0 mg/L indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) achieved the highest root induction rate (96.0%) and average root length (4.6 cm), whereas MS supplemented with 0.5 mg/L indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) resulted in the highest average regenerated root number (8.8). The total time for the regeneration from explants to soil-planted seedlings (10 euphylla) was 105 and 150 days with an efficiency of 44.1% and 23.9% through organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis, respectively. This study provides a powerful tool for rapid propagation, proliferation, and transformation, as well as laying a technological foundation for gene function research and genetic improvement of blue honeysuckle.

Since the launch of CFOSAT on 29 October 2018, more than three years of observational data of ocean wave spectra with a frequency range of 0.02–0.26 Hz and a horizontal resolution of 70–90 km have been obtained. This study compares wave spectra retrieved from 6°, 8°, and 10° incidence angle beams and their combination provided by CFOSAT with corresponding data from 98 buoys from the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) in order to validate the remote sensing wave spectral accuracy from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022. The correlation coefficient of frequency spectra (Rs) between CFOSAT and buoys is used to represent the accuracy of the spectral form; the root mean square (RMS) of the significant wave height (SWH) is used to represent the accuracy of the total energy. The results indicate that CFOSAT can retrieve reliable wave frequency spectral forms with a high significant wave height (Rs > 0.8 when SWH > 3 m; RS < 0.4 when SWH < 1 m). The low-frequency noise in the swell part causes the main error, the RMS of the swell height is 0.4 m whereas the RMS of wind wave height is 0.24 m, and the mask filter used for spectral partitioned provided by CFOSAT can eliminate the low-frequency noise and improve the Rs of 10° beam wave spectra from 0.59 to 0.64. For the wind wave spectra, the correct spectra have been achieved and the mask filter cannot improve the accuracy. The wave spectra from the 10° beam without mask filtering provides the best estimation of total energy, the RMS of SWH is 0.23 m, after the mask filtering, the best estimation of spectral form can be achieved, the Rs is 0.64. The novelty of this study is that we found the strong correlation between SWH and Rs, where the scatter of SWH and Rs can be fitted as: Rs = 1 − exp(−0.89·SWH + 0.20); according to this approximate formula, we can estimate the reliability of wave spectra provided by CFOSAT according to the SWH in any region, which is important for wave spectral assimilation in the numerical model. The validation of wave direction indicates that the accuracy of wave spectra in the directional component is poor; further research is needed on the causes of directional errors. Generally, this study is not only an evaluation of the quality of the CFOSAT spectral data, but also an important reference for a series of research requiring the CFOSAT spectral data.

Abstract In recent years, finite element analysis is increasingly adopted to simulate the mechanism of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) resistive gas sensors. In this article, the chemical reaction engineering module in the COMSOL Multiphysics tool is used to describe the dynamic equilibrium process of oxygen ions in the sensor. The boundary conditions of temperature transfer, conductivity model, and mass transfer are applied to simulate the convection, diffusion, and penetration processes. The response of the sensor at different temperatures (445 K–521 K) and different target gas concentrations (1–500 ppm) is simulated. In this paper, the dynamic model of oxygen ions is used creatively as a bridge between gas concentration and sensor response instead of the traditional direct parameter fitting method. The simulated result of the surface oxygen ion control and permeability control model of the MOS gas sensor shows a good agreement with the real sensor. For explaining the principle of metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors simulations has been performed on COMSOL Multiphysics software. The proposed method in this paper is based on the underlying transfer logic of the sensor signal, it is expected to predict the sensor signal and assist the sensor design.
