Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy and can range in severity from relatively slow-growing occult differentiated thyroid cancer to uniformly aggressive and fatal anaplastic thyroid cancer. A subset of patients with papillary thyroid cancer present with aggressive disease that is refractory to conventional treatment. Myricetin is a flavonol compound found in a variety of berries as well as walnuts and herbs. Previous studies have demonstrated that myricetin exhibits anti-cancer activity against several tumor types. However, an anti-cancer effect of myricetin against human papillary thyroid cancer (HPTC) cells has not been established. The present investigation was undertaken to gain insights into the molecular mechanism of the anti-cancer activity of myricetin against HPTC cells. We examined the cytotoxicity, DNA damaging, and cell cycle arresting activities of myricetin using SNU-790 HPTC cells. We found that myricetin exhibited cytotoxicity and induced DNA condensation in SNU-790 HPTC cells in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, myricetin up-regulated the activation of caspase cascades and the Bax:Bcl-2 expression ratio. In addition, myricetin induced the release of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) and altered the mitochondrial membrane potential. Our results suggest that myricetin induces the death of SNU-790 HPTC cells and thus may prove useful in the development of therapeutic agents for human thyroid cancers.

However, undifferentiated thyroid cancers are one of the most lethal human malignancies. Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) accounts for 2% of all thyroid cancers, and its median survival rate is low. ATC is responsible for more than one-third of thyroid cancer-related deaths. Myricetin is a flavonol compound found in walnuts, herbs, and various berries and is known to induce apoptotic death of various types of cancer cells. However, an anticancer effect of myricetin against human anaplastic thyroid cancer (HATCs) cells has not been demonstrated. Materials and methods In the present study, the anticancer effects and mechanism of action of myricetin were examined using SNU-80 HATC cells. SNU-80 HATC cells were treated with various concentrations of myricetin and compared with untreated controls. Results Myricetin significantly reduced HATC cell proliferation, by approximately 70%. A substantial proportion of dead cells exhibited arrest in the sub-G1 phase. Myricetin also exhibited cytotoxicity and induced DNA condensation in SNU-80 HATC cells in a dose-dependent manner. The mechanism of myricetin-induced cell death involved an increase in the activation of caspase cascades and the Bax:Bcl-2 ratio at a concentration of 100 μM. Myricetin also induced the release of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) from mitochondria into the cytosol and altered the mitochondrial membrane potential. Conclusion Our results indicate that myricetin is a potent inducer of HATC cell death and may thus prove useful in the development of therapeutic agents for HATC.

Objectives : The aim of this research was to develop evaluation indicators that ensure safe services and enhance the quality of small-sized dental hospitals within local communities to prepare for the dental hospital accreditation system. Methods : Materials and data from a total of 460 respondents were analyzed after quality improvement indicators were formed by surveying experts and studying documents in Korea and abroad, and by conducting a survey from August 21, 2013 to September 30, 2013 for validation purposes. Results : Based on the results of factor analysis. all measured items appeared to be statistically significant with a factor loading score of at least 0.5, and the correlation between the factors all appeared to be high as well. The goodness-of-fit for the model also appeared to be within the recommended acceptance level. Thus, the proposed evaluation indicators for dental hospital accreditation developed in this study consisted of a total of seven major category factors and a total of 91 detailed items. Conclusions : Furthermore, the results suggest that the evaluation indicators can be used to improve the quality and to ensure the safe services of dental hospitals in local communities.

Objectives This study was to evaluate the performance of the newly developed information system (IS) implemented on July 1, 2014 at three public hospitals in Korea. Methods User satisfaction scores of twelve key performance indicators of six IS success factors based on the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model were utilized to evaluate IS performance before and after the newly developed system was introduced. Results All scores increased after system introduction except for the completeness of medical records and impact on the clinical environment. The relationships among six IS factors were also analyzed to identify the important factors influencing three IS success factors (Intention to Use, User Satisfaction, and Net Benefits). All relationships were significant except for the relationships among Service Quality, Intention to Use, and Net Benefits. Conclusions The results suggest that hospitals should not only focus on systems and information quality; rather, they should also continuously improve service quality to improve user satisfaction and eventually reach full the potential of IS performance.

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the factors which cause the patients to choose hospital from the view of Christian missionary hospital. The subjects were 194 inpatients and 202 outpatients of the K Medical Center in Busan. The research had been conducted from 20 June to 31 July in 2013. The major results demonstrated that the medical and social services image factors strongly affected to the satisfaction and selectivity of patients. Social role image of religious medical institution should be considered important and it seems beneficent in CRM(Customer Relationship Management) based on this results.

There are rapidly increasing in the number of SNS users according to quick supply of smart phones and expansion of wireless internet services, but there is no much researches on hospital promotion using SNS. In this paper, we proposed methods for development of effective hospital promotion by investigating current status of homepages, mobile web contents and SNS operated in 21 dermatology hospitals located at Seoul city and by analyzing contents according to functions as hospital promotion media. In the investigation results, all of three contents such as homepage, mobile web content and SNS are opened in 76.1% of hospitals and external companies occupied the main management body of the three contents at the largest portion(56.2%). There are hospital information, clinic, reservation in all hospitals' homepages and followed by broadcasting(90.5%), medical treatment(85.7%), consultation information(80.9%), member information in 'mypage'(42.9%), staff information(14.3%). In the analysis results, there is need to enlarge departments or staffs taking full charge of in order to manage the three contents professionally and also there is need to prepare and conduct hospital promotion methods using prevalent SNS.

The aim of this study was to examine the impact of the participation motivation of hospital volunteers, their awareness of hospital image, hospital management of volunteers, the organizational interpersonal relationship of volunteers and their satisfaction with volunteer activities on the continuance of their volunteer activities. The subjects were 480 volunteers who did volunteer activities in 37 hospitals in Busan, 399 subjects were responsed. This study is meaningful in that unlike relevant earlier studies of medicine, it attempted to make an integrative analysis of the influential factors for volunteer activities continuance and to make use of structural equation, a more advanced analysis technique. Besides, this study gave some suggestions on the customized management of hospital volunteers, its objects and related logical model.

The subjects of this study were 100 female cancer patients in wearing wigs. First survey was before wearing wigs for the female cancer patients who started losing their hair due to the side effect of the anti-cancer and second survey was after a month in wearing wigs. This study was purposed to analyze the recognition change before and after wearing wigs of the female cancer patients who started losing their hair due to the side effect of the anti-cancer. The gathered data were examined and analyzed through frequency analysis, paired t-test based on the recognition change which affect the quality of life before and after wearing wigs, and change of recognition related to the wigs. According to the results of this study, it is necessary to add wearing wigs as additional services in national health insurance and to educate desirable support program for life quality of female cancer patients in hospital.

This research is for dental hygienists to pursue affection and commitment in organization together with improvement of quality of working life by analyzing factors of working life affecting affective commitment in organization of dental hygienists, to find out plans to increase sense of accomplishments of working life and ultimate satisfaction of life, and to suggest direction for human resources management in management of dental clinics. Objects of investigation were dental hygienists working at dental medical institutions in Busan area with questionnaire survey and 197 sheets of questionnaires were used in the study. As the result of the study, high correlation was shown between composition elements of quality of working life and affective commitment per factor and as the result of quality factors of working life affecting affective commitment in organization, work environment, inter-personal relations, and social meaningfulness provided meaningful impacts on affective commitment in organization. It is believed to be important that dental medical institutions need to promote pride and love of companies in the future by providing regular social services or services for local residents so that employees can form smooth inter-personal relationships among employees with improvement of working environment and welfare in personnel management dimension. And for dental hygienists, they shall improve their work performances and enhance vocational values for development of their institutions and them with positive thinking through ceaseless efforts.

The purposes of this study were to understand the differences of general characteristics, to compare understanding level of the organization cultures, and to develop more good management methods between outsourcing workers and regular workers in hospitals. Major results of this study were as follows: First, regular workers had higher level than outsourcing workers in major understanding on job satisfaction and organization cultures(pride of their jobs, recognition level of job performance ability, satisfaction on ordering method. etc.). Second, the results showed that the level of job performances related with effective management of the factors in job satisfaction and involvement. Third, through multiple regression analysis to understand factors on job satisfaction and involvement, we understood that regular workers were effected by vision performance of hospital and their value view-point, and outsourcing workers were influenced by recognition levels and education levels of hospital vision, Therefore, to maximize level of job satisfaction and involvement. we have interest in development of education program for outsourcing workers, and selection of adequate persons in hospital culture.

Objectives. This study was aimed at investigating the usefulness of serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) and ferritin in anemic patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared with bone marrow storage iron and other tests for anemia. Methods. Fifty-five anemic RA patients underwent anemia study. Bone marrow iron stain was performed in 18 patients. sTfR and serum ferritin levels were compared with bone marrow iron stores. Results: (1) Mean sTfR concentration was 2.63±1.91 mg/L, (2) sTfR correlated with most indicators of anemia, (3) sTfR showed no correlation with CRP and ESR, whereas ferritin did, and (4) sTfR was higher in the "iron depleted" subgroup than in the "iron nondepleted" subgroup in bone marrow study. Conclusion. The measurement of sTfR and ferritin is useful in finding the cause of anemia in RA and is a possible substitute for invasive bone marrow iron study.

Purpose Extrathyroidal extension (ETE) of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a risk factor for tumor recurrence. By TNM Classification (7th edition), differentiated thyroid carcinoma with ETE is designated T3 (minimal invasion), T4a (extended invasion), or T4b (more extensive unresectable invasion), according to the degree of tumor involvement. We subsequently focused our investigation on minimal ETE (MEE), analyzing the clinicopathologic characteristics, recurrence rate, and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in this setting. Methods A retrospective study was conducted, based on 332 patients undergoing thyroidectomy for PTC between January 2005 and December 2006. Results The study population was stratified into two groups: PTC with MEE (103/332; 31.0%) and PTC without MEE (229/332; 69.0%). In patients with PTC, MEE correlated with gender, tumor size, multifocality, lymph node (LN) metastasis, underlying Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and the nature of the surgery. However, no significant intergroup differences were evident with respect to age, recurrence rate, and LN metastasis. In multivariate analysis, LN metastasis (odds ratio = 2.273; 95% confidence interval, 1.280–4.037) was recognized as an independent correlate of mETE ( p = 0.005). However, recurrence-free survival did not differ significantly between the groups ( p = 0.153), even when further stratified by the presence or absence of LN metastasis. Conclusion In patients with PTC, MEE does not impact RFS. Thus, appropriate surgical intervention and postoperative follow up are mandatory in PTC, regardless of its extent.

Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is a prototypic autoimmune disease affecting various organ systems. Hypothermia is a rare manifestation of SLE. We experienced a case of SLE combined with hypothermia. A 36-year-old woman, who had been diagnosed as SLE 3 days before admission, admitted complaining of mental confusion. After admission, her body temperature, initially 36.1 degrees C, became 32.6 degrees C. Her core body temperature was less than 35.0 degrees C. Despite of warming with heating lamp and blankets, her core temperature did not reach 35.0 degrees C during 18 hours. Ten days later, her temperature exceeded 36.0 degrees C.
