The CMS magnets are fully tested, where it has reached its nominal field of 4T without any problem related to the magnet itself. Special emphasis is put on the results of phenomena that are related to the induced fast discharges, such as coupling and quench-back effects.

The process of the power test quality assurance and performance evaluation, which is applied during the LHC magnet series tests, is analyzed. The main test results of magnets tested in both supercritical and superfluid helium, which has included the quench training, the conductor performance and the magnet protection integrity are discussed in terms of the design parameters and the requirements of the LHC machine.

A 66 kV/750 A high-T(sub c) superconducting (HTS) fault current limiter (FCL) magnet is developed for the Super-conductive AC Equipment (Super ACE) project. The design, fabrication and test results for the FCL magnet are described.

The superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES) of output 5 MVA is developed to bridge instantaneous voltage dips. During the field test, it is confirmed that the performance of bridging instantaneous voltage dips by SMEs, the long-term drive reliability and the standby loss charcteristics

ALICE dipole magnet has a singe arm forward muon detector, which requires a dipole magnet with a very large aperture that would be installed next to the solenoid used in the L3 experiment of LEP. The magnet is currently assembled in the experiment underground carven in a location with convenient access conditions where it would be powered and tested during the last quarter of 2003.

The mechanical properties of the components and bonding between the CMS conductor are measured by destructive testing on short samples, in complement of continuous monitoring during productive. The results of the superconducting cable to pure aluminum shear testing, the tensile testing of the EN AW 6082 aluminum reinforcement, and the insert to reinforcement shear testing and after heat treatment induced during coil curing are focused.

The ATLAS B0 model coil is extensively tested, reproducing the experimental conditions of the final ATLAS Barrel Toroid Coils. The two test campaign aims to test the cool-down, warm-up phases and to commission the coil up to its nominal current of 20.5 kA, reproducing Lorentz fore similar to the one on the BT coil as well to evaluate the margins above the nominal conditions.

Two straight sections, IR3 and IR7 would be dedicated to beam cleaning and these cleaning insertions would be equipped with normal conducting magnets. The design and results of the tests including mechanical, electrical and magnetic field measurements are described.

The main quadrupole magnets in the Q1 (LQXA) and Q3 (LQXC) assemblies are MQXA elements designed and fabricated by KEK and Toshiba, while those in the Q2 (LQXB) assemblies are MQXB quadrupoles designed and fabricated by Fremilab. The cold test results of LQXB02 and an overview of the magnetic measurements results of the cold masses built up to date are presented.

The first 920 MHz high-resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) magnets are installed at the Tsukuba Magnet Laboratory of the National Institute for Material Science. The signal-to-nose ratio of 0.1 percent ethylbenzene using a proton-selective probe is high as 2981.

The R&D coil is developed for Large Helical Device (LHD) pool-cooled superconducting magnets and the stability tests are performed in saturated sub-cooled helium. The current propagation becomes higher at the lower temperature and it exceeds 11.7 kA in subcooled helium of 3.5 K as a temperature inside the R&D coil.

The sub-cooled He I is used as a coolant for superconducting magnets of the LHD (Large Helical Device) coils and their stability is tested. The helium temperature distribution in the cooling channels of the R & D coil is measured under steady state conditions and the transient helium temperature change in the channels is observed in stability tests.

A closed-form Green's function solution for the axisymmetric stresses in an elastic coil of superconducting magnets is presented, which provides the components of stress throughout the coil and includes the shear stress in addition to the normal stresses. The Green's function method permits the development of a solution irrespective of the type of magnetic body forces within the coil. A report on the completion and subsequent trial operation of the superconducting coils of the Large Helical Device (LHD) is presented. The LHD, a device intended for plasma physics experiments, is composed of two superconducting helical coils and three pairs of poloidal coils. The device, whose assembly and other attachments were finished in Jan 1998, completed trial operations and the initial plasma ignition on schedule in Mar 1998.

The design, construction and subsequent testing of the superconducting final focus magnet system intended for the interaction region of the KEKB electron-positron collider of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization of Japan is presented. The asymmetric-energy, two-ring KEKB accelerator, composed of two solenoid field compensation magnets and two superconducting quadrupoles equipped with three types of correction coils, is intended for B-meson physics.

The results of the tests conducted on the first full scale prototypes of the second generation Large Hadron Collider (LHC) long superconducting arc dipoles are presented. The tests of the LHC arc dipole prototypes, based on LHC designs of 1993 to 1995, were completed in Jun to Jul 1998. The results indicate that, despite one magnet reaching the record field for long model dipoles of 9.8 T, the performance continue to be erratic from magnet to magnet.

A study on the continuing advances in high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils manufactured from BSCCO-2212 surface coated superconductors is presented. A particular area of application for HTS superconductors is in the field of high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance systems. The results of tests conducted on the conductor and coil designs for a prototype layer wound magnet with a 52 mm bore that is capable of accommodating high field operation stresses is presented.

A refrigerator cooled magnet composed of 10 double stacked pancake coils manufactured from silver-alloy sheathed Bi-2212 multilayer superconducting tapes has been tested. The results indicate that the magnet is capable of operating at temperatures of 12 degrees Kelvin (K) at an operating current of 45 Angstrom (A). The magnet, which carried a critical current of 57A at 12K, did not exhibit any sign of thermal runaway even at a ramp rate of 10T/min.

Measurement results of the transport and mechanical characteristics of two Bi2212 superconducting coils that were subjected to large hoop stresses were measured. The coils were composed of 11-turn R&W type double pancake coils that have an outer diameter of 280mm reinforced against electromagnetic stress by co-winding with either a Hastelloy X or a silver-50%copper tape. The Hastelloy X tape-reinforced coil is capable of repressing deformation to within 0.22%.
