The spectroscopic and photophysical properties of the complexes, Ru(bpdz)(sub 3)(super 2+) and [Ru(bpy)(sub 2)(bpdz)](super 2+), where bpdz = 3,3' -bipyridazine and bpy = 2,2' -bipyridine are documented. Lifetime measurements for both complexes indicate that the two complexes of interest decay by different nonradiative pathways.

Research has been conducted on the entrapped tris-ligated polypyridine divalent ruthenium complex. The restriction of this complex from rotating within the Y-zeolite supercage has been investigated.

Experiments were performed to produce the intrazeolitic Zn2+ tetra(3,4-pyridine)porphyrazine (ZnPz-Z) by the template synthesis method. Metal-free porphyrazine and 3,4-dicyanopyridine (DCP) noncyclic oligomers were produced to generate ZnPz-Z due to the need for large amount of DCP. Spectroscopic characterization studies showed that the ground state structure of the zeolite-entrapped ZnPz was similar to that of the free complex.

A study was presented regarding the preparation and photophysical characterization of a Y-zeolite-entrapped Ru(bpy)2(pypz)2+ complex. A UV-visible, emission, resonance Raman (RR) and time-resolved resonance Raman (TR3) spectroscopic methods were utilized to document results of the experiment. Results revealed that specific intermolecular interaction of the peripheral N atom of the coordinated pypz ligand with zeolite framework exists.

Electrochemical, spectrophotochemical and spectroscopic techniques are capable of characterizing the reactivity of superoxide with iron II complexes. The complexes have pentadentate ligands and hexadentate ligands. Electrically conductive polymers on the electrode surface at negative potentials exist and is indicated by the repetitive cyclic voltammograms of the two complexes. The polymers are formed under aerobic conditions which are induced by hypervalent iron species.

The complex (Fe DPC Cl)PF6 derived from the reaction of iron(II) chloride with 4,7-bis(2-picolyl)-4,7-diaza-1-oxacyclononane (DPC) was studied using X-ray crystallography. DPC was synthesized from the interaction between (9)-aneON2 and 2-picolyl chloride hydrochloride in water. Results showed that the newly formed complex contained a macrocyclic ring with a chloride atom attached trans to a nitrogen atom of DPC. Additional reactivity studies involving Fe(TPC)2+ were conducted to further characterize the compound's structure.
