Quality management is a continuous and dynamic approach to business that seeks to increase the quality, competitiveness and productivity of the organization through the process of continuous improvement of the quality of products, services, processes, people and the environment. The production of plastic injection molding tools is characterized by single production and high product prices. Mistakes in the process of development, design and production of tools most often lead to high costs, non–fulfillment of agreed delivery dates and loss of image with the customer. Because of this, the manufacturer should establish an effective quality management system in its processes, and especially the quality control subsystem. In modern production, product quality control is indispensable and is imposed as a mandatory function of the organization. Controlling and testing of the product during the process of its creation and delivery to the customer is carried out according to pre–defined control points and characteristics for control. These elements are defined in the process of design and technological preparation and are an integral part of the appropriate control documentation. Adequate application of control documentation improves product quality, identifying sources of variation in individual processes and establishing controls for their monitoring. This has the effect of increasing customer satisfaction, reducing waste and improving the financial results of the business. Increasing competition and globalization that encompasses all dealings in the world of business compel SMEs to seek more successful organizational and management modes and approaches. This paper presents a simulation model for the application of Lean methods and tools in SMEs and their impact on the improvement of production processes and product sustainability. The Lean concept can be used to achieve more efficient production whilst manufacturing lower-cost products including shorter manufacturing cycle, high quality, and added value. Research results show the usefulness of the application of dynamic simulations in the detection of critical places in processes and the usefulness of the application of relevant Lean methods and Lean tools for process improvement. Simulation results underline better performance of product manufacturing through the use of Lean tools with the aim to eliminate any waste. Reengineering the assembly line focuseson the following aspects, namely reducing waste, internal logistics, redesigning workplaces, and changing the workplace layout.

The sustainable development of an organisation is monitored through the organisation’s performance, which beforehand incorporates all stakeholders’ requirements in its strategy. The strategic management concept enables organisations to monitor and evaluate their effectiveness along with efficiency by monitoring of the implementation of set strategic goals. In the process of monitoring and measuring effectiveness, an organisation can use multiple-criteria decision-making methods as help. This study uses the method of analytic network process (ANP) to define the weight factors of the mutual influences of all the important elements of an organisation’s strategy. The calculation of an organisation’s effectiveness is based on the weight factors and the degree of fulfilment of the goal values of the strategic map measures. New business conditions influence the changes in the importance of certain elements of an organisation’s business in relation to competitive advantage on the market, and on the market, increasing emphasis is given to non-material resources in the process of selection of the organisation’s most important measures.

Nowadays, in the global market products and services need to have factors that exceed expectations if the manufacturer wants to be one of the leading market players, and they have to fulfill all the basic and customer requirements. Very often there is a large percentage of working time which is wasted in communication in order to clarify misunderstandings, correct mistakes, and sometimes reorganize improper work activities. To avoid these losses, more time has to be spent on analyzing and planning to meet customer requirements. The QFD method is a comprehensive method for quality planning and management in the product creation process. This why it is necessary to perform systematic monitoring and measurement in all processes, primarily on the basis of set goals in terms of time, costs and product quality. The paper presents the use of the QFD method to improve the existing product, a device for automatic pressure adjustment in car tires. According to the QFD methodology, all participants are provided with a system analysis in the realization of products through four phases, from customer requirements to all definitions of the work process. Also, the goal is to achieve a reduction in the number of work instructions. The fourth matrix shows key processes with performance and graded significance. These are processes that require special attention during production design, in order to improve a product and make it meet customer expectations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasing energy needs and demands to reduce environmental impact have expanded interest in exploring sustainable alternative energy sources. The purpose of the article is to analyse the cost-effectiveness of starting the production of fastgrowing Paulownia tree, which is characterized by low concentration of ash, sulphur, and nitrogen, as well as high calorific value and absorption of CO2 from the air. Also, Paulownia is suitable for carving and insulation and it is an excellent raw material for ethanol production. Through the given strategic analysis, it is necessary to observe all-important external and internal factors that affect the success of the production of a quality product and its placement on the market. The basic wiev of the scope of knowledge relevant to Systems Engineering, presented in the Systems Engineering Body of knowledge (SEBoK) is organized in to 7 Knowledge areas (KA): 1 SEBoK Introduction, 2 Foundations of Systems Engineering, 3 Systems Engineering and Management, 4 Applications of Systems Engineering, 5 Enabling Systems Engineering, 6 Related Disciplines and 7 Systems Engineering Implementation Examples. Knowledge areas point out on specific engineering methodologies useful for new product or services development, deployment and quality assurance during their life cycle. In this paper the study program is viewed as a product. Through the realization of the study program of higher education institution provides the necessary knowledge and competences for the students. By applying these methods, benefits are achieved at all stages of the life cycle of the study program with a particular focus on identifying the required knowledge and competencies. System engineering, as a growing scientific and applied field, offers integrative tools for the development of complex systems and which category includes the study program as a product of a higher education institution. The most used and established method for detecting the effects of the product on the environment is a life cycle assessment (LCA) method. LCA analyzes the effects of the product on the environment in its all five life stages: design, materials selection, manufacture, use, and ultimately its removal. At the same time LCA is an important tool when we deciding on choosing and optimizing the technology and raw materials. In the frame of our study is discussed LCA method as an useful tool in production engineering praxis. The application of LCA for the Slovenian steel producers and automotive industry was analyzed. During the first pilot project heavy plates of typical steel grades from ACRONI production program were discussed, and in the frame of the second project a new generation of supercharger housing for gasoline engine AUDI 3.0 was analysed. Lately, a greater emphasis has been placed on the quality of environment and sound management of resources, and above all on energy sources as the basis of the human life quality and of sustainable development. The sustainable development of an organization is monitored through the organization's performance, which is the result of its strategy that has incorporated all stakeholders' requirements beforehand. Although a great number of companies apply a strategic management concept and business success measurement methods, researches show that only every tenth company manages to implement the defined strategy. The main causes of unsuccessful strategy implementation can be found in the lack of adequate strategic control mechanisms. The paper presents the methodology developed with an aim to remove the main obstacles to successful implementation of the defined strategy and to the monitoring of an enterprise's effectiveness. Cage rope attachments are important part of mine hosting systems and their maintenance is necessary in a mining facility. In this paper the mine hoist rope attachment assembly from Coal Mine Zenica, excavation "Raspotocje", is considered and investigated. The original design dimensions of rope attachment assembly parts are altered in order to reduce weight whilst satisfying all design and safety criteria. Different design scenarios of rope attachments parts are analysed by FEM software and as a result of the investigation the improved design of rope attachment assembly is proposed.

Pack aluminization process is one of the possible production methods to improve oxidation resistance at high temperatures of various types of metallic materials. It is a chemo-thermal process where products are embedded in the powder mixture, consisting of Al powder, halide activator NH4Cl, and inert diluent Al2O3 powder, and annealed at high temperature. This exposure to high temperature causes the Al diffusion into the base material and formation of the aluminide surface layer. During the component service at elevated temperatures, the oxidation resistance is obtained due to the constant formation of an aluminium oxide film that forms on the aluminide surface layer and acts as an oxygen impermeable barrier. In the present study, FeCrAl and the NiCr heat resistant alloys in the form of 1mm thick sheet were aluminized at various process parameters. The effect of time, temperature, concentration of aluminium and halide activator in the powder mixture as well as the influence of furnace atmosphere on coating formation mechanism, mass gain and the thickness of the aluminide diffusion layer was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, X- ray photoelectron spectroscopy and micro hardness analytic techniques. Isothermal exposure tests at 1200 °C for 24h in air were conducted and compared with untreated samples for high temperature oxidation resistance estimation.

20. SEM analysis of fracture surface of the CuAlNi shape memory alloy after heat treatment

CuAlNi shape memory alloys (SMA) belongs to a group of alloys that exhibit shape memory effect which is related to the thermoelastic martensitic transformation. In this paper the influence of heat treatment (quenching and tempering) on fracture surface morphology of the CuAlNi SMA after tensile testing was examined by scanning electron microscope. It is observed a small difference on alloys mechanical properties and surface morphology between casted and quenched (850 °C/60’/WQ) condition. But after tempering at 300 °C/60’/WQ the mechanical properties and surface morphology is drastically changed. In both states (casted and quenched) can be noticed a transgranular type of fracture showing that the small amount of plastic deformation occurred, and along long oriented grains it is observed an intergranular type of fracture. After tempering the CuAlNi sample shows mostly intergranular type of fracture after tensile testing.
