Conference: ERPA International Congress on Education (ERPA) -- Location: Istanbul Univ, Istanbul, TURKEY -- Date: JUN 06-08, 2014 The Interior Architecture education is examined based on "sketching and presentation" within the framework of "design" by looking into the application patterns, materials used, education, processes and results of these two methods and by providing relevant examples. In the study discusses the knowledge of design, universities providing education, interior architecture presentation process, perspective and focuses on the role of expression techniques in the interior Architecture education. In parallel, the expression techniques are associated with the concepts of design, sketching and presentation, their essential role in Interior Architecture education and the need to convey this skill through education arc highlighted. In design education, the only way to learn how to design for students is to experience the design by his/her own. In this context, apart from formal education, informal studies such as workshops have an undeniable contribution for student's design thinking techniques. The purpose of the research is to discuss the contributions of workshops on formal education as an informal learning tool. In this framework, workshops are studied as an informal learning environment and the evaluation of skills gained during the workshops through a survey administered to the participants of two workshops are examined in order to discuss the contributions of workshops on formal education. In this context, this article intends to examine the curricula of 46 Departments of interior Architecture in Turkey, analyze of them and reveal the differences. As a result of this analysis; an example of "Curriculum" that will serve as a model for Interior Architecture is targeted. ERPA

Karslı, Umut Tuğlu (Dogus Author) Externalization that became prominent in 1980s with the globalization brought along dramatic changes in social and spatial areas. The social, cultural and economic events that took place on an international level thanks to globalization made the impact of change felt which was reflected on the urban space and, therefore, on the house, resulting in an increase in the importance of the residential sector. Externalization and developed economic structure enabled more investments into houses which introduced a concept of housing populated in urban fringes starting from the city centers. The housing concept which was shaped by the impacts of the urban transformation after 1980 turned into a new emerging lifestyle in Istanbul in 2000s. Accordingly, the study aims to establish the position of housing in Istanbul and new meanings formed by the socio-cultural changes. In this sense, housing before and after 1980, globalization, gentrification, urban transformation, spatial segregation, socio-economic and cultural aspects were discussed based on the structural benchmarks, and 4 different housing forms, namely the "Loft", "Residence", "Terraced House", and "Gated Communities", with individual structural examples. This study, thus, aims to question the form of tenancy of these houses created through varying concepts and concerns today. The results obtained showed that the housing as an indicator of cultural life in Istanbul has turned into a lifestyle that is shaped by similar aspects and commercial concern, despite different approaches or production forms, eliminating the traces of the cultural life of the society.
