Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) is a pharmaceutically significant aromatic crop with health benefits linked to its phytochemicals. This article aims to overview progress in using emerging technologies to extract its bioactive compounds and extraction mechanisms. Also, the trends in the applications of this herb in the food industry and its therapeutical effects were explained. Fenugreek's flavor is the primary reason for its applications in the food industry. At the same time, it has antimicrobial, antibacterial, hepatoprotection, anticancer, lactation, and antidiabetic effects. Phytochemicals responsible for these effects include galactomannans, saponins, alkaloids, and polyphenols. Besides, data showed that emerging technologies boost fenugreek extracts' yield and biological activity. Among these, ultrasound (55.6%) is the most studied technology, followed by microwave (37.0%), cold plasma (3.7%), and combined approaches (3.7%). Processing conditions (e.g., treatment time and intensity) and solvent (type, ratio, and concentration) are significant parameters that affect the performance of these novel extraction technologies. Extracts obtained by sustainable energy-saving emerging technologies can be used to develop value-added health-promoting products. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic non‐specific inflammatory disease of the intestines with a high prevalence. Polymer‐prepared nanoparticles are well‐targeted, highly biocompatible, and have high potential for personalized therapy. Polymer nanoparticles are able to achieve localized therapy through their unique design. First, this review compares the advantages and disadvantages of natural and synthetic polymeric materials as well as describes the application of polymeric nanoparticles in UC therapy. Then, the preparation, characterization methods, and current challenges of common polymer nanoparticles are presented. Next, one‐by‐one examples of polymer nanoparticle‐targeted drug delivery strategies for the treatment of UC are presented. In addition, polymer nanoparticle‐based therapeutic approaches for UC, including anti‐inflammatory therapies, reactive oxygen species scavenging therapies, and intestinal flora modulation therapies, are presented. Finally, future research directions for polymer nanoparticles in UC therapy are discussed and current challenges are identified. Citrus australasica, also named finger lime, has been drawing lots of attention recently due to its potent antioxidant capacity and health-promoting benefits. They have been applied to the food industry as fruit or processed into soda, flavor liquor, jam, and dried powder. Especially, phenolic compounds are of prime interest as a large group of bioactive components in finger lime, including phenolic acids, flavan-3-ols, flavanones, anthocyanins, flavones, flavonols, and iso-flavonoids. Besides, other bioactive phytochemicals have also shown their roles, such as organic acids, minerals, carotenoids, vitamins, and chlorophylls. They synergically trigger finger lime to be a beneficial source, which can prevent people from chronic diseases, including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, by avoiding excessive intake of nutrients (anti-nutritional activity) and releasing oxidation pressure (antioxidant capacity). Therefore, the extracts of finger lime can be used as a functional ingredient in alimentology or pharmacology areas to lower the risk. Groundwater contamination in India exposes an estimated 70 million people to arsenic. Over 10 million people in the state of Bihar (India) are at risk of arsenic poisoning. As reported 27 districts of the state's thirty-eight districts are under a state of catastrophe. Symptoms noticed by those who have been exposed to the arsenic caused disease are-lack of appetite, neurobehavioral problems, hyperkeratosis, and melanosis on the skin. So, this study's primary objective is to find novel approaches to treat arsenic poisoning in rats using the Charles Foster model. Following permission from the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, the animals were divided into three groups: one group served as a control, the second group received arsenic treatment, and the third group received Ganoderma lucidum extract after arsenic treatment. For the arsenic group, the rats were given 8 mg/kg body weight of sodium arsenite orally every day for 90 days, and then for 60 days, they were given 80 mg/Kg body weight of Ganoderma lucidum extract via gavage. Their biochemical values, including those of the liver and kidneys, were found to be increased. In addition, their levels of free radicals, including lipid peroxidation, were measured and found to be substantially higher. In addition, the levels of arsenic in the kidney and liver tissue were very high. However, biochemical and lipid peroxidation levels were significantly restored after administration of Ganoderma lucidum ethanolic extract. Arsenic levels in rat liver and kidney tissues were also found to be reduced. Ganoderma lucidum has a therapeutic impact against arsenicinduced toxicity, according to the present research. The gut microbiota offers numerous benefits to the human body, including the promotion of nutrient absorption, participation in metabolic processes, and enhancement of immune function. Recent studies have introduced the concept of the gut-organ axis, which encompasses interactions such as the gut-brain axis, gut-liver axis, and gut-lung axis. This concept underscores the complex interplay between gut microbiota and various organs and tissues, including the brain, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, muscles, and bones. Growing evidence indicates that gut microbiota can influence the onset and progression of multi-organ system diseases through their effects on the gut-organ axis. Traditional Chinese medicine has demonstrated significant efficacy in regulating the gastrointestinal system, leveraging its unique advantages. Considerable advancements have been made in understanding the role of gutmicrobiota and the gut-organ axiswithin the mechanisms of action of traditional Chinese medicine. This review aims to elucidate the roles of gut microbiota and the gut-organ axis in human health, explore the potential connections between traditional Chinese medicine and gut microbiota, and examine the therapeutic effects of traditional Chinese medicine on the microbiota-gut-organ axis. The use of neuromodulators is prevalent in various functional gastrointestinal disease. However, data concerning the outcomes of these treatments in functional esophageal disorders (FED) remains limited and inadequate. The aim of the present study is to examine the efficacy of central neuromodulators in FED. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library databases from inception to April 2023. Randomized controlled trials that compared the effects of neuromodulators and placebos on FED are included. Primary outcome is the symptom improvement, and Rome IV criteria is used to assess eligible studies. Eleven randomized controlled studies (three for functional chest pain, four for reflux hypersensitivity/functional heartburn, three for globus, and one for functional dysphagia) were included in the final analysis. Neuromodulators reduced chest pain by 52%–71% in patients with functional chest pain, and alleviated symptom by 46%–75% in patients with globus (n = 3, Odds ratio 6.30, 95% confidence interval 4.17–9.50). However, the results were inconsistent for reflux hypersensitivity and functional heartburn. There was a lack of convincing evidence to support the use of neuromodulators for functional dysphagia. The use of neuromodulators did not have a significant impact on the quality of life. Functional chest pain and globus may potentially benefit from the use of neuromodulators, but their effectiveness for functional dysphagia, functional heartburn and reflux hypersensitivity remains controversial. The review integrates information on the component composition and biological activity of some Astragalus L. (Fabaceae) species from studies reported over the past 5–7 years. The aerial and underground parts of 34 Astragalus species contain triterpene saponins, flavonoids, polysacharides, tannins, free organic acids, higher fatty acids, vitamins, trace elements, and other constituents. Among the Astragalus species, A. membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge is the best studied in terms of component composition and biological activity. Anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anticancer, cardioprotective, and hepathoprotective activities have been experimentally detected in total bioactive substances, fractions, and individual compounds extracted from various parts of A. membranaceus and A. membranaceus var. mongholicus in vitro and in vivo. The composition and biological effects of other Astragalus species are still poorly understood. Computer-aided drug design and discovery methods have been essential in developing small molecules with therapeutic properties over the last decades. Application of computational resources includes drug target identification, hit discovery, and lead optimization. Accordingly, with tremendous research efforts and the availability of financial support from government agencies across the world, and multinational drug companies, the overall research level in this area will continue to advance. The methodology used in this review paper entailed a thorough examination of research studies on relevant literature on drug design and development using computational resources. Extensive searches using Scopus, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (OvidSp, WHO Global Health Library, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Science Direct, ProQuest dissertation & theses, Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (CSA), and PubMed was carried out. A standardized template was used to ensure that the selected papers met the inclusion criteria, and relevant to the review. Ultimately, there are robust technologies developed to enhance the drug discovery process. Therefore, this review provides insights into computational resources in Silico and ab initio methods and algorithms, not restricted to drug metabolism predictions for drug design, and the practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in drug discovery. Computational tools and methods for drug design and development such as molecular dynamics (MD), molecular docking, quantum mechanics (QM), hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM), and Density functional theory (DFT) have been reviewed. Accordingly, the emerging technique of synergistically employing these techniques influences the fundamental challenges of conventional medicines for complex diseases. Herein, we discuss ligand-based and structure-based drug discoveries, force field models in MD simulations, docking algorithms, subtractive and additive QM/MM coupling. Nonetheless, as computer-aided drug (CADD) approaches continue to evolve with significant improvements, the focus areas will be on docking and virtual screening, scoring functions, optimization of hits, and assessment of adsorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties. With the current success, the present computational resources will aid in the future discovery of novel compounds with high therapeutic performance. Intestinal inflammatory diseases are increasingly prevalent worldwide, and their pathogenesis is still not fully understood. As of late, studies have discovered that food-derived peptides have specific anti-inflammatory activity and can play a positive role in intestinal health. At the same time, it has broad application prospects in the prevention and treatment of colitis because of its wide source, fast absorption, and high safety. This article reviews the structure-activity and quantity-effect relationships of food-derived peptides for their anti-inflammatory effects. It then discusses their mechanism of action in inhibiting colitis from four aspects. Food-derived anti-inflammatory peptides can delay the progression of the disease by stimulating innate immunity, inhibiting inflammation, and promoting wound healing. Further experiments showed that food-derived anti-inflammatory peptides could prevent and treat colitis through four mechanisms: (a) regulation of inflammatory cytokines; (b) regulation of inflammatory pathways; (c) regulation of intestinal epithelial barrier; (d) regulation of intestinal flora balance. However, due to the treatment of colitis having limitations, there is an urgent to develop food-derived anti-inflammatory peptides as a treatment or adjunctive treatment for colitis. It is closely associated with many diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, tumours, and neurological diseases. The use of natural chemicals to modulate ferroptosis is of great concern because of the critical role ferroptosis plays in disease. The main active ingredient in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is the most abundant catechin in green tea. EGCG shows a wide range of biological and therapeutic effects in various diseases, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, and cardioprotective.The purpose of this article is to summarise the existing information on the relationship between EGCG and ferroptosis.Articles related to EGCG and ferroptosis were searched in PubMed and Web of Science databases, and the literature was analysed.EGCG could improve ferroptosis-related diseases and affect the development of ferroptosis by regulating the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2, autophagy, microRNA, signal transducer and activator of transcription 1, and protein kinase D1 signalling pathways. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of thioacetamide (TAA) on the structure and function of the testes and assess the therapeutic effects of Curcuma longa (Cl) against TAAinduced toxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two male albino rats weighing 180-200 gm and aged 11-12 weeks were randomly separated into four groups. The control group was given normal saline, the Cl group was orally administered Cl (500 mg/kg/day), the TAA group received intraperitoneal TAA (200 mg/kg body weight, three times/week), and the Cl with TAA group received Cl orally two hours before TAA administration. After 8 weeks, all rats were anesthetized, and body and testis weights were recorded. Morphological and histological assessments as well as biochemical analyses were conducted. Results: The study revealed a significant decrease in both body and testis weights in the TAA group, accompanied by a substantial increase in luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Testosterone (T) and glutathione (GSH) were significantly decreased in the TAA-treated group compared to the control. Conversely, the Cl-treated group exhibited a substantial decrease in LH, FSH, and MDA levels while showing a significant increase in T and GSH. Conclusion: Cl has been found to have a potential therapeutic role in mitigating TAA-induced testicular damage by acting as an antioxidant. This is supported by a significant decrease in oxidative stress markers and supporting hormonal levels. Background Statins are the cornerstone of lipid-lowering therapy and moderate-dose statin therapy is the preferred treatment strategy for lipid management in the Chinese population. Despite the widely recognized efficacy of statins in reducing cholesterol levels and preventing cardiovascular diseases, there are significant differences in treatment responses among patients from different ethnic groups. Objective To explore the differences in therapeutic efficacy between Han and Uyghur patients under moderate-dose statin therapy to guide the formulation of individualized treatment plans. Methods A total of 780 patients diagnosed with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) by coronary angiography at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University's Cardiac Center from 2012 to 2022 were included in the study. Background: Intradiscal condoliase injection for lumbar disc herniation (LDH) was developed in Japan in 2018. The treatment is intermediate between conservative therapy and surgery, and its frequency is increasing. Condoliase is limited to a single application over a lifetime, rendering it important to understand the indications and predictors of its effectiveness. This review aimed to summarize published studies and provide appropriate indications and limitations for appropriate patient selection based on existing findings. Methods: While adhering to PRISMA guidelines, we searched the PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases to identify articles reporting the clinical outcomes of intradiscal condoliase injection for LDH. Data extraction focused on the effective rate, prognostic factors, and posttreatment imaging changes and was used in the meta-analysis. Results: Nineteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Our meta-analysis revealed 78% total response, 11% posttreatment surgery, and 42% posttreatment Pfirrmann-classification-grade progression rates. Posttreatment intervertebral disc degeneration was potentially associated with an improved response rate and disc regeneration one year posttreatment, especially in young patients. Background: Network pharmacology has emerged as a powerful tool to understand the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of natural products. However, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluations of network-based approaches for natural products on identifying therapeutic effects and key mechanisms. Purpose: We systematically explore the capabilities of network-based approaches on natural products, using Panax ginseng as a case study. P. ginseng is a widely used herb with a variety of therapeutic benefits, but its active ingredients and mechanisms of action on chronic diseases are not yet fully understood. Methods: Our study compiled and constructed a network focusing on P. ginseng by collecting and integrating data on ingredients, protein targets, and known indications. We then evaluated the performance of different network-based methods for summarizing known and unknown disease associations. The predicted results were validated in the hepatic stellate cell model. Results: We find that our multiscale interaction-based approach achieved an AUROC of 0.697 and an AUPR of 0.026, which outperforms other network-based approaches. As a case study, we further tested the ability of multiscale interactome-based approaches to identify active ingredients and their plausible mechanisms for breast cancer and liver cirrhosis. We also validated the beneficial effects of unreported and top-predicted ingredients, in cases of liver cirrhosis and gastrointestinal neoplasms. Conclusion: our study provides a promising framework to systematically explore the therapeutic effects and key mechanisms of natural products, and highlights the potential of network-based approaches in natural product research.

Advanced knee osteoarthritis (KOA) impacts both knees, resulting in pain, deformity, and substantial restrictions in joint mobility. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of combining arthroscopic debridement with functional exercise in treating advanced KOA. A total of 296 patients diagnosed with advanced KOA were divided into two groups: the observation group (n= 152) received arthroscopic debridement combined with functional exercise, while the control group (n= 144) underwent arthroscopic debridement only. The study compared and observed the outcomes between the two groups. There were no significant differences in knee joint function, inflammation level, and oxidative stress between the two groups before treatment (P> 0.05). Following treatment for six months, the observation group exhibited significantly lower visual analog scale (VAS) score, tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1), matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels compared to the control group (P< 0.05). Meanwhile, the observation group showed significantly higher levels of Lysholm score, hospital for special surgery (HSS) score, range of motion (ROM) of knee, peak torque (PT) and total work (TW) for knee extension and flexion, superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and glutathione (GSH) compared to the control group (P< 0.05). Besides, the effective treatment rate in the observation group was notably higher than that in the control group (80.92% vs. 69.44%, P< 0.05). The combination of arthroscopic debridement with functional exercise is an effective treatment for advanced KOA. This approach not only enhances the function and strength of knee joint and reduces inflammatory response but also boosts the body’s antioxidant capacity. The overuse of antibiotics has led to an alarming spread of drug-resistant microbial infections, creating an urgent need for new therapeutic technologies. This issue has become a significant concern in recent years due to the increase in mortality rates, especially in hospital infections. In addition to antibiotic resistance, side effects caused by antibiotics, such as liver and kidney complications, threaten immunocompromised patients, infants, and the elderly, which indicates the need for immediate action. One of these technologies that has attracted attention as an alternative or complementary treatment for bacterial and viral infections is chicken immunoglobulin (IgY). This process involves extracting chicken immunoglobulin antibodies from egg yolk, which is achieved by injecting killed or recombinant pathogen antigens into the chicken. Several studies have investigated the therapeutic effects of IgY on bacterial infections in vitro and in vivo. However, a research gap exists regarding the mechanism of action, benefits, and possible side effects of these antibodies. This review article examines the structure, mechanism of action, optimal production conditions, advantages, and disadvantages of using this antibody, which can be widely used in the future. Sacubitril/valsartan (S/V) is the first commercially available angiotensin and eneprilysin receptor blocker worldwide, first approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in 2015. It presents a clear superiority to renin-angiotensin-aldosterone inhibition alone in terms of reduction in all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction following the "PARADIGM-HF" study. Therefore, it remains essential to understand its effects on the heart and off target. Objective: JianPiHuaTan Formula (JPHTF), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been utilized as an adjunctive therapy for colorectal cancer (CRC). The study aims to evaluate the potential clinical benefits of JPHTF and its effectiveness in inhibiting tumor growth. Methods: 300 stage II/III CRC patients and 412 advanced CRC patients were enrolled to verify the clinical value of JPHTF in CRC treatment. Furthermore, CRC patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mice were utilized to investigate the regulatory mechanisms of JPHTF. Results: JPHTF significantly improved abdominal distension, shortness of breath, drowsiness, loss of appetite, sleep, and tiredness in stage II/III CRC patients, thereby improving their quality of life. Simultaneously, JPHTF served as a supportive therapy in extending the overall survival (OS) of stage IV CRC patients with RAS/RAF mutations undergoing chemotherapy. Additionally, JPHTF effectively impeded tumor progression in CRC PDX models with RAS mutation, accompanied by a reduction in tumor cell content in the JPHTF group. Transcriptomic analysis revealed the involvement of the Hippo and Hedgehog signaling pathways in JPHTF-mediated CRC inhibition. Furthermore, mice in the JPHTF group exhibited increased immune cell infiltration. Conclusion: These findings suggested that JPHTF may inhibits tumor growth in CRC with RAS mutation by modulating RAS/RAF downstream signaling pathways, specifically the Hippo and Hedgehog signaling, leading to increased immune cell infiltration. Identification of the phytochemical composition of plants is vital in new drug discovery and lead compound development for the management of infectious and non-infectious diseases. Lantana camara is an important medicinal essential oil-producing plant used in folklore medicine for the treatment of several diseases. This study evaluated the phytochemical composition and profiled the biologically active principles present in L. camara leaf extracts collected from Orba, Enugu State of Nigeria. The profiling of L. camara leaves methanol and aqueous extracts was done using qualitative and quantitative phytochemical and GC-MS techniques. The phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids and other phenolic compounds. There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in the steroids, saponins, terpenoids, glycosides and phenolic contents of methanol and aqueous extracts. The phenolic content in methanol (1563.85±0.07 mg/100g) and aqueous (1425.23±0.36 mg/100g) were significantly higher than other phytochemicals tested in this study. There was significantly (p < 0.05) higher alkaloids (506.74±5.52 mg/100g), flavonoids (372.04±8.39 mg/100g) and tannins (1426.43±7.43 mg/100g) in the methanol compared with the aqueous extracts with 349.92±13.10 mg/100g, 231.99±6.16 mg/100g and 1351.62±20.6 mg/100g respectively. The GC-MS analysis showed the presence of 39 biologically important compounds which included bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, 9,19-cyclolanostan-3-ol-11-one acetate, 4H-1-benzopyran-4-one-5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl), n-hexadecanoic acid, (Z)-7-hexadecenal, phytol acetate, phytol, 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol and bicyclo [4.4.0] dec-2-ene-4-ol 2-methyl-9-(prop-1-en-3-ol-2-yl). The phytochemical analysis and the GC-MS profiling of the extracts of L. camara showed the presence of biologically important phytochemicals which could be responsible for the ethnomedicinal effects of L. camara. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global health issue in the twenty-first century, and there are numerous challenges in preventing and alleviating its chronic complications. The herb Epimedium has beneficial therapeutic effects on various human diseases, including DM. Its major flavonoid component, icariin, has significant anti-DM activity and may help improve pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance. Furthermore, preclinical evidence has shown that icariin and its in vivo bioactive form, icariside II, have preventive and therapeutic effects on several diabetic complications, including diabetic cardiomyopathy, diabetic vascular endothelial disorder, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic erectile dysfunction. In this review, we present the general and toxicological information concerning icariin and icariside II and review the anti-DM effects of icariin from a molecular perspective. Additionally, we discuss the potential benefits of icariin and icariside II on the important pathological mechanisms of various diabetic complications. Despite positive preclinical evidence, additional investigations are needed before relevant clinical studies can be conducted. Therefore, we conclude with suggestions for future research. Hopefully, this review will provide a comprehensive molecular perspective for future research and product development related to icariin and icariside II in treating DM and diabetic complications. Although kratom use has been part of life for centuries in Southeast Asia, the availability and use of kratom in the United States (US) increased substantially since the early 2000s when there was little information on kratom pharmacology, use patterns, and effects, all critical to guiding regulation and policy. Here we provide a synthesis of research with several hundred English-language papers published in the past 5 years drawing from basic research, epidemiological and surveillance data, and recent clinical research. This review of available literature aims to provide an integrated update regarding our current understanding of kratom's benefits, risks, pharmacology, and epidemiology, which may inform United States-based kratom regulation. Recent surveillance indicates there are likely several million past-year kratom consumers, though estimates vary widely. Even without precise prevalence data, kratom use is no longer a niche, with millions of United States adults using it for myriad reasons. Despite its botanical origins in the coffee tree family and its polypharmacy, kratom is popularly characterized as an opioid with presumed opioid-system-based risks for addiction or overdose. Neuropharmacology, toxicology, and epidemiology studies show that kratom is more accurately characterized as a substance with diverse and complex pharmacology. Taken together the work reviewed here provides a foundation for future scientific studies, as well as a guide for ongoing efforts to regulate kratom. This work also informs much-needed federal oversight, including by the United States Food and Drug Administration. We conclude with recommendations for kratom regulation and research priorities needed to address current policy and knowledge gaps around this increasingly used botanical product. Purpose: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the therapeutic effects of rFSH versus uFSH/uHMG on ovarian stimulation in women undergoing assisted reproductive technology. Methods: The databases of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched to retrieve data on eligible trials from inception until July 2022. The relative risks (RRs) or weighted mean differences (WMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied to assess categorical and continuous outcomes, and the pooled results were calculated using the random-effects model. Sensitivity, subgroup, and publication bias analyses were also performed. Results: Forty-eight trials that enrolled 10,127 women were included in this quantitative meta-analysis. There were no significant differences between rFSH and uFSH/uHMG in the clinical pregnancy rate (RR: 1.01; 95% CI 0.95–1.07; P = 0.760), live birth rate (RR: 0.98; 95% CI 0.91–1.06; P = 0.665), multiple pregnancy rate (RR: 0.92; 95% CI 0.77–1.09; P = 0.320), miscarriage rate (RR: 1.17; 95% CI 0.94–1.46; P = 0.151), and the incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (RR: 1.25; 95% CI 0.91–1.70; P = 0.164). In addition, the administration of rFSH was associated with a higher number of oocyte retrieval compared with that of uFSH/uHMG (WMD: 0.61; 95% CI 0.03–1.20; P = 0.038), while no significant differences were found between rFSH and uFSH/uHMG in the dosage of gonadotrophin (WMD: 14.80; 95% CI − 136.97 to 166.57; P = 0.848) and the duration of ovarian stimulation (WMD: − 0.26; 95% CI − 0.62 to 0.10; P = 0.152). Thus, the exploratory analyses revealed several potential differences in the effects of rFSH versus uFSH/uHMG on ovarian stimulation. Conclusion: The administration of rFSH significantly increased the number of oocytes retrieved, whereas there were no significant differences between the efficacies of rFSH and uFSH/uHMG for pregnancy outcomes. Native flora and their seeds are widely used in traditional medicine to treat a wide range of illnesses. Kuwait is an arid region with extensive desert ecosystems richly covered with indigenous vegetation, having wide range of therapeutic benefits. The study is intended to explore the phytochemicals in the seeds of a native desert plant, Farsetia aegyptia, to relate with their pharmacological features using GC-MS. The chromatogram portrayed the presence of 21 phytochemicals, the highest being Â-D-Glucopyranose, 1, 6-Anhydro- (26.48%) contributing as a natural energy source, with antitumor and antioxidative properties. The cyclohexanone oxime and Furancarboxaldehyde, 5- (Hydroxymethyl were perceived in 21.22 % and 20.96 % with wide potential to inhibit microbial infections, with potential cytotoxic effects as they possessed antioxidant properties.Other notable phytochemicals detected in prominent quantities are Pentanenitrile, 5-(Methylthio) - and Cis-Vaccenic acid in 11.79 and 5.64%, with potent anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidative activities. Many other fatty acids, as well as their esters, amides, amines, quinones, sterols, vitamins, and other compounds, have been found to have a variety of benefits, that can alleviate severe human ailments. The study opens the door to develop novel herbal medications with an ignored native plant flora, which have the potential to treat fatal sicknesses, but still require more clinical evaluations to fully comprehend their effects. Fucoxanthin is a unique carotenoid present in brown seaweed due to the presence of an allenic bond in its structure. Its chemical composition consists of a central core that is cyclic, many conjugated double bonds, and several functional groups. Fucoxanthin plays a critical role in photosynthesis, absorbing light energy and transferring it to chlorophyll a. It has been demonstrated to have a variety of health advantages as well as protective effects against conditions including diabetes, liver cirrhosis, obesity, and malignant cancer, etc. Therefore, fucoxanthin can be employed as a strong pharmaceutical and dietary components to stop the spread of a wide array of infectious disorders. The present review focuses on the most recent research related to the pharmaceutical properties of fucoxanthin including antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, skin-protective, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, and other qualities, including bioavailability and stability traits. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of thioacetamide (TAA) on the structure and function of the testes and assess the therapeutic effects of Curcuma longa (Cl) against TAA-induced toxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two male albino rats weighing 180–200 gm and aged 11–12 weeks were randomly separated into four groups. The control group was given normal saline, the Cl group was orally administered Cl (500 mg/kg/day), the TAA group received intraperitoneal TAA (200 mg/kg body weight, three times/week), and the Cl with TAA group received Cl orally two hours before TAA administration. After 8 weeks, all rats were anesthetized, and body and testis weights were recorded. Morphological and histological assessments as well as biochemical analyses were conducted. Results: The study revealed a significant decrease in both body and testis weights in the TAA group, accompanied by a substantial increase in luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hor¬mone (FSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Testosterone (T) and glutathione (GSH) were significantly decreased in the TAA-treated group compared to the control. Conversely, the Cl-treated group exhibited a substantial decrease in LH, FSH, and MDA levels while showing a significant increase in T and GSH. Conclusion: Cl has been found to have a potential therapeutic role in mitigating TAA-induced testicular damage by acting as an antioxidant. This is supported by a significant decrease in oxi¬dative stress markers and supporting hormonal levels. Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and explore the clinical applicability of Cl in preventing and treating testicular toxicity. Healing gardens, a longstanding feature of medical institutions, have garnered attention from scholars for their health-promoting properties across various stages of research. Through a historical literature review and contemporary case analysis of healing gardens, this research investigates how to achieve therapeutic integration by fostering effective connections between buildings and nature through typological design. Combined with qualitative and design-driven research methodologies, including the use of visualization tools such as drawings, models, and images, six models of building-nature integration in contemporary healthcare architecture are identified. This article bridges a research gap in the field of healing garden design and concludes by demonstrating that “typology” is only a design strategy according to context and building performance. In addition to positions of healing gardens, critical factors such as spatial organization, aesthetics, and sustainability, incorporating elements such as accessibility, readability, comfort, and ecological factors, must be carefully considered to achieve integration.

Introduction: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) often triggers oxidative stress through reactive oxygen species (ROS). Transforming growth factor-bactivated kinase 1 (TAK1) plays a pivotal role in regulating oxidative stress and inflammation across various diseases. 5Z-7-Oxozeaenol (OZ), a specific inhibitor of TAK1, has exhibited therapeutic effects in various conditions. However, the impact of OZ following ICH and its underlying molecular mechanisms remain elusive. This study aimed to explore the possible role of OZ in ICH and its underlying mechanisms by inhibiting oxidative stress-mediated pyroptosis. Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to an ICH model, followed by treatment with OZ. Neurobehavioral function, blood-brain barrier integrity, neuronal pyroptosis, and oxidative stress markers were assessed using various techniques including behavioral tests, immunofluorescence staining, western blotting, transmission electron microscopy, and biochemical assays. Results: Our study revealed that OZ administration significantly inhibited phosphorylated TAK1 expression post-ICH. Furthermore, TAK1 blockade by OZ attenuated blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, neuroinflammation, and oxidative damage while enhancing neurobehavioral function. Mechanistically, OZ administration markedly reduced ROS production and oxidative stress by facilitating nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) nuclear translocation. This was accompanied by a subsequent suppression of the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) activation-mediated inflammatory cascade and neuronal pyroptosis. Discussion: Our findings highlight that OZ alleviates brain injury and oxidative stress-mediated pyroptosis via the NRF2 pathway. Inhibition of TAK1 emerges as a promising approach for managing ICH. The endocannabinoid system shows promise as a novel target for treating psychiatric conditions. Cannabidiol (CBD), a naturally occurring cannabinoid, has been investigated in several psychiatric conditions, with diverse effects and an excellent safety profile compared to standard treatments. Even though the body of evidence from randomised clinical trials is growing, it remains relatively limited in most indications. This review comprises a comprehensive literature search to identify clinical studies on the effects of CBD in psychiatric conditions. The literature search included case studies, case reports, observational studies, and RCTs published in English before July 27, 2023, excluding studies involving nabiximols or cannabis extracts containing CBD and ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Completed studies were considered, and all authors independently assessed relevant publications. Of the 150 articles identified, 54 publications were included, covering the effects of CBD on healthy subjects and various psychiatric conditions, such as schizophrenia, substance use disorders (SUDs), anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and autism spectrum disorders. No clinical studies have been published for other potential indications, such as alcohol use disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression, dementia, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. This critical review highlights that CBD can potentially ameliorate certain psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia, SUDs, and PTSD. However, more controlled studies and clinical trials, particularly investigating the mid- to long-term use of CBD, are required to conclusively establish its efficacy and safety in treating these conditions. The complex effects of CBD on neural activity patterns, likely by impacting the endocannabinoid system, warrant further research to reveal its therapeutic potential in psychiatry. Bioelectric medicine (BEM) refers to the use of electrical signals to modulate the electrical activity of cells and tissues in the body for therapeutic purposes. In this review, we particularly focused on the microcurrent stimulation (MCS), because, this can take place at the cellular level with sub-sensory application unlike other stimuli. These extremely low-level currents mimic the body's natural electrical activity and are believed to promote various physiological processes. To date, MCS has limited use in the field of BEM with applications in several therapeutic purposes. However, recent studies provide hopeful signs that MCS is more scalable and widely applicable than what has been used so far. Therefore, this review delves into the landscape of MCS, shedding light on the multifaceted applications and untapped potential of MCS in the realm of healthcare. Particularly, we summarized the hierarchical mediation from cell to whole body responses by MCS including its physiological applications. Our final objective of this review is to contribute to the growing body of literature that unveils the captivating potential of BEM, with MCS poised at the intersection of technological innovation and the intricacies of the human body. Background: Liver fibrosis is an irreversible liver destruction. Apigenin (API) has different pharmacological properties as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant; however, API hepatoprotective and therapeutic effects are not often studied. This study assesses protective and therapeutic API effects on hepatic injuries produced by thioacetamide (TAA) in rats. Methods: Forty-nine rats were sorted into seven groups (7 in each): negative control (G1), positive control (G2, TAA), API group (G3), TAA+API group (G4), TAA+SL group (G5), API+TAA group (G6), and SL+TAA group (G7). API and SL effects on TAA-induced hepatotoxicity were examined by determined body weights, liver weights, complete blood count picture (white blood cells, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets counts), liver function tests (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, total proteins, albumin, and globulin), and oxidative stress markers (malonaldehyde, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and reduced glutathione) in serum and liver histological was assessed. Results: TAA decreased red blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin content, and hematocrit (p <0.001) and increased white blood cells count (p <0.001) versus control. Serum values of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, and malondialdehyde significantly elevated (p <0.001); meanwhile, total protein, albumin, globulin, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione S transferase decline (p <0.001) versus negative control. Hepatic structure of TAA group revealed fibrosis and hepatocyte destruction. Therapeutic or protective treating TAA-rats with API or SL ameliorate hematological values, liver functions, oxidative stress, and histological alterations especially therapeutic effects on hematological changes, liver function tests, and oxidative stress markers. Bromelain is a complex natural mixture of sulfhydryl-containing proteolytic enzymes that can be extracted from the stem or fruit of the pineapple. This compound is considered a safe nutraceutical, has been used to treat various health problems, and is also popular as a health-promoting dietary supplement. There is continued interest in bromelain due to its remarkable therapeutic properties. The mechanism of action of bromelain appears to extend beyond its proteolytic activity as a digestive enzyme, encompassing a range of effects (mucolytic, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, and antiedematous effects). Little is known about the clinical use of bromelain in pediatrics, as most of the available data come from in vitro and animal studies, as well as a few RCTs in adults. This narrative review was aimed at highlighting the main aspects of the use of bromelain in children, which still appears to be limited compared to its potential. Relevant articles were identified through searches in MEDLINE, PubMed, and EMBASE. There is no conclusive evidence to support the use of bromelain in children, but the limited literature data suggest that its addition to standard therapy may be beneficial in treating conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections, specific dental conditions, and burns. Further studies, including RCTs in pediatric settings, are needed to better elucidate the mechanism of action and properties of bromelain in various therapeutic areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The discovery of antibiotics has been one of the greatest milestones in the field of medical science that has played a pivotal role in advancing the progress and performance of the livestock and poultry sector. Antibiotics have been used in poultry diets at sub-therapeutic doses for growth promotion and at therapeutic levels for disease treatment. Inappropriate and indiscriminate use of antimicrobials leads to antibiotic resistance and transmission of resistant genes either directly or through bacteria from animal feed, or the environment. In fact, numerous feed supplements have been proposed over the years as antibiotic alternatives, to improve the health status, welfare and productive performance of poultry birds. However, organic acids (OA) have emerged as a potential antibiotic replacement due to their antimicrobial nature. Although, OA are abundant in nature as conventional components of animal and plant tissues, whereas, few of them are produced by microbial fermentation in the hindgut of animals. Interestingly, supplementation of several types of OA such as formic acid, lactic acid, fumaric acid, butyric acid, citric acid and tartaric acid have been shown to significantly improve the health status and production performance of poultry birds. At the same time, OA have also been investigated for their multiple therapeutic effects on pathological disorders, as antimicrobial, antifungal, antiprotozoal, and anticoccidial agents. In addition, OA provide protection by improving the immune system, physiology and morphology of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Background: Despite remarkable advances in the therapy of multiple sclerosis (MS), patients with MS may still experience relapses. High-dose short-term methylprednisolone (MP) remains the standard treatment in the acute management of MS relapses due to its potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. However, there is a lack of studies on the cell type-specific transcriptome changes that are induced by this synthetic glucocorticoid (GC). Moreover, it is not well understood why some patients do not benefit adequately from MP therapy. Methods: We collected peripheral blood from MS patients in relapse immediately before and after ∼3–5 days of therapy with MP at 4 study centers. CD19+ B cells and CD4+ T cells were then isolated for profiling the transcriptome with high-density arrays. The patients' improvement of neurological symptoms was evaluated after ∼2 weeks by the treating physicians. We finally analyzed the data to identify genes that were differentially expressed in response to the therapy and whose expression differed between clinical responders and non-responders. Results: After MP treatment, a total of 33 genes in B cells and 55 genes in T helper cells were significantly up- or downregulated. The gene lists overlap in 10 genes and contain genes that have already been described as GC-responsive genes in the literature on other cell types and diseases. Their differential expression points to a rapid and coordinated modulation of multiple signaling pathways that influence transcription. Genes that were previously suggested as potential prognostic biomarkers of the clinical response to MP therapy could not be confirmed in our data. However, a greater increase in the expression of genes encoding proteins with antimicrobial activity was detected in CD4+ T cells from non-responders compared to responders. Conclusion: Our study delved into the cell type-specific effects of MP at the transcriptional level. The data suggest a therapy-induced ectopic expression of some genes (e.g., AZU1, ELANE and MPO), especially in non-responders. The biological consequences of this remain to be explored in greater depth. A better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying clinical recovery from relapses in patients with MS will help to optimize future treatment decisions.

The neuroscience of music and music-based interventions (MBIs) is a fascinating but challenging research field. While music is a ubiquitous component of every human society, MBIs may encompass listening to music, performing music, music-based movement, undergoing music education and training, or receiving treatment from music therapists. Unraveling the brain circuits activated and influenced by MBIs may help us gain better understanding of the therapeutic and educational values of MBIs by gathering strong research evidence. However, the complexity and variety of MBIs impose unique research challenges. This article reviews the recent endeavor led by the National Institutes of Health to support evidence-based research of MBIs and their impact on health and diseases. It also highlights fundamental challenges and strategies of MBI research with emphases on the utilization of animal models, human brain imaging and stimulation technologies, behavior and motion capturing tools, and computational approaches. It concludes with suggestions of basic requirements when studying MBIs and promising future directions to further strengthen evidence-based research on MBIs in connections with brain circuitry.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Music and music-based interventions (MBI) engage a wide range of brain circuits and hold promising therapeutic potentials for a variety of health conditions. Comparative studies using animal models have helped in uncovering brain circuit activities involved in rhythm perception, while human imaging, brain stimulation, and motion capture technologies have enabled neural circuit analysis underlying the effects of MBIs on motor, affective/reward, and cognitive function. Combining computational analysis, such as prediction method, with mechanistic studies in animal models and humans may unravel the complexity of MBIs and their effects on health and disease.

Giardia lamblia is the protozoan agent of giardiasis and is one of the most common causes of diarrhea worldwide, especially in Iran. Nowadays, drugs such as metronidazole, furazolidone, tinidazole, and quinacrine are used to treat giardiasis. These drugs have different side effects, so research to find a drug with few side effects seems necessary. Asafoetida, an oleo gum resin obtained from an Iranian endemic herb, Ferula Assa-foetida has many healing properties, especially in the treatment of parasitic diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Asafoetida hydroalcoholic extract on the G. lamblia in vivo in mice. In this experimental study, 25 mice were divided into 5 groups of 5 including negative control, drug control with metronidazole, and 3 experimental groups treated with Asafoetida extract at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/mL. Then, the effect of Asafoetida hydroalcoholic extract up to the tenth day was evaluated. In this study, the weight of mice in the groups treated with hydroalcoholic extract of Asafoetida was lower than the control group that did not take any drugs. The effect of plant extract against G. lamblia showed that the reduction in the number of cysts in the groups of 100, 200, and 400 mg/mL was equal to 71.8%, 80.9%, and 93%, respectively (p

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and its mortality rate remains high. In addition to conventional surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, immunotherapy methods have been developed and used in recent years for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, only a small number of patients with NSCLC can benefit from immunotherapy strategies, and some patients even have hyperprogression after receiving immunotherapy. Therefore, precision immunotherapy requires effective biomarkers to guide it. In this paper, tissue samples, blood samples, intestinal microbiota, and other biomarkers are reviewed according to different sample sources. Blood samples, including TCR immune repertoire, Tregs cells, cytokines, lactate dehydrogenase, and other markers, are summarized and analyzed to provide reference for clinicians' diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Cola nitida, also known as Kola nut, is a tropical plant native to West Africa and has a rich history of traditional medicinal use. In this narrative review, we aim to provide an overview of the protective effects of Cola nitida in various health and disease states. Cola nitida has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties, and its bioactive compounds include caffeine, alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, and phenolics. These compounds contribute to its potential therapeutic effects. Here, we examine the potential benefits of Cola nitida in several areas of health, discussing its role in cognitive function, cardiovascular health, immune system function, gastrointestinal health, and metabolic and endocrine health. Relevant original articles available from PubMed, African Journals Online (AJOL), SCOPUS, and Google Scholar were retrieved using the keywords “cola” AND “nitida” without date restriction until July 17, 2023. Evidence suggests that Cola nitida may have positive effects on health, with indications of adverse effects only from its chronic usage. However, more research is needed to establish its efficacy and safety. Cola nitida holds promise as a natural remedy for various health conditions. Understanding the benefits and limitations of Cola nitida will contribute to its effective utilization in health and disease management.

Abstract Inflammation and oxidative stress are recognized as two primary causes of lung damage induced by methotrexate, a drug used in the treatment of cancer and immunological diseases. This drug triggers the generation of oxidants, leading to lung injury. Given the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of high-intensity intermittent training (HIIT), our aim was to evaluate the therapeutic potential of HIIT in mitigating methotrexate-induced lung damage in rats. Seventy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: CTL (Control), HIIT (High-intensity intermittent training), ALI (Acute Lung Injury), HIIT+ALI (pretreated with HIIT), and ALI + HIIT (treated with HIIT). HIIT sessions were conducted for 8 weeks. At the end of the study, assessments were made on malondialdehyde, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (Gpx), myeloperoxidase (MPO), interleukin 10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), gene expression of T-bet, GATA3, FOXP3, lung wet/dry weight ratio, pulmonary capillary permeability, apoptosis (Caspase-3), and histopathological indices. Methotrexate administration resulted in increased levels of TNF-α, MPO, GATA3, caspase-3, and pulmonary edema indices, while reducing the levels of TAC, SOD, Gpx, IL-10, T-bet, and FOXP3. Pretreatment and treatment with HIIT reduced the levels of oxidant and inflammatory factors, pulmonary edema, and other histopathological indicators. Concurrently, HIIT increased the levels of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory factors.

In this study, hydrogen therapy was investigated to determine whether it is superior to N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) for the treatment of patients with early-stage ILD.Patients and Methods: A prospective, single-center, randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted in 87 patients with early-stage ILD. Hydrogen or NAC therapy was randomly assigned (1:1 ratio) to the eligible patients. The primary endpoint was the change in the high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and composite physiologic index (CPI) scores from baseline to week 48. Pulmonary function was evaluated as a secondary endpoint, and adverse events were recorded for safety analysis.Results: The rate of HRCT image improvement from the baseline in the HW group (63.6%) was higher than that in the NAC group (39.5%). A significant decrease in CPI and improvement in DLCO-sb were observed in the hydrogen group compared with those in the control group. Changes in other pulmonary function parameters, including FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC%, and TLC, were not significantly different between the two groups. Adverse events were reported in 7 (15.9%) patients in the HW group and 10 (23.3%) patients in the NAC group, but the difference was not significant (P=0.706).Conclusion: Hydrogen therapy exhibits superior efficacy and acceptable safety compared with NAC therapy in patients with early-stage ILD.Keywords: hydrogen, N-acetylcysteine, interstitial lung disease, therapeutic effects

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and its mortality rate remains high. In addition to conventional surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, immunotherapy methods have been developed and used in recent years for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, only a small number of patients with NSCLC can benefit from immunotherapy strategies, and some patients even have hyperprogression after receiving immunotherapy. Therefore, precision immunotherapy requires effective biomarkers to guide it. In this paper, tissue samples, blood samples, intestinal microbiota, and other biomarkers are reviewed according to different sample sources. Blood samples, including TCR immune repertoire, Tregs cells, cytokines, lactate dehydrogenase, and other markers, are summarized and analyzed to provide reference for clinicians’ diagnosis and treatment decisions.
