The change of temperature, humidity and moisture content (MC) will lead to the change of mechanical properties of molded fiber products (MFP). However, it is difficult to decouple the effects of temperature, humidity and MC on the mechanical properties of MFP, and predict the mechanical properties of MFP during the use. In this study, the laws and mechanism of mechanical properties of MFP with ambient temperature, humidity and MC were studied. The results showed that the direct effect of temperature (20−70 °C) on mechanical properties of MFP was insignificant, and the mechanical properties of MFP were mainly changed by MC. The MC was related to ambient temperature and humidity, and the relationship between the three could be described by the modified Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer (GAB) model (20−70 °C and 30 %–90 % relative humidity). With the increase of MC, the elastic modulus and fracture strain was increased and decreased linearly, the yield strength and failure strength were presented GaussAmp laws, and the failure strain was presented asymptotic regressed distribution law. Two fracture modes of MFP, brittle fracture and ductile fracture, were revealed by the scanning electron microscopy of the mesoscopic fiber structure of sugarcane bagasse molded fiber products. The mathematical models and the changes of fiber structure were verified by wheat straw molded fiber products and waste paper molded fiber products. This study was contributed to understand the effects and mechanism of the change of temperature, humidity and MC on the mechanical properties of MFP.

Abstract Background High-altitude cerebral edema (HACE) is considered an end-stage acute mountain sickness (AMS) that typically occurs in people after rapid ascent to 2500 m or more. While hypoxia is a fundamental feature of the pathophysiological mechanism of HACE, emerging evidence suggests that inflammation serves as a key risk factor in the occurrence and development of this disease. However, little is known about the molecular mechanism underlying their crosstalk. Methods A mouse HACE model was established by combination treatment with hypobaric hypoxia exposure and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) stimulation. Lactylated-proteomic analysis of microglia was performed to reveal the global profile of protein lactylation. Molecular modeling was applied to evaluate the 3-D modeling structures. A combination of experimental approaches, including western blotting, quantitative real-time reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), confocal microscopy and RNA interference, were used to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms. Results We found that hypoxia exposure increased the lactate concentration and lactylation in mouse HACE model. Moreover, hypoxia aggravated the microglial neuroinflammatory response in a lactate-dependent manner. Global profiling of protein lactylation has shown that a large quantity of lysine-lactylated proteins are induced by hypoxia and preferentially occur in protein complexes, such as the NuRD complex, ribosome biogenesis complex, spliceosome complex, and DNA replication complex. The molecular modeling data indicated that lactylation could affect the 3-D theoretical structure and increase the solvent accessible surface area of HDAC1, MTA1 and Gatad2b, the core members of the NuRD complex. Further analysis by knockdown or selectively inhibition indicated that the NuRD complex is involved in hypoxia-mediated aggravation of inflammation. Conclusions These results revealed a comprehensive profile of protein lactylation in microglia and suggested that protein lysine lactylation plays an important role in the regulation of protein function and subsequently contributes to the neuroinflammatory response under hypoxic conditions.

Cultural genes in historic districts are an important carrier of, and the main way in which people perceive, urban cultural heritage. In this study, the relationship between cultural perception and cultural genes is first established. Taking Central Street in Harbin, China, as an example, a cultural gene identification system was established to quantitatively identify the cultural genes in the space, and the cultural perception of each street was evaluated via a questionnaire survey. The correlations between cultural genes and cultural perception were obtained via correlation analysis, and the cultural gene elements that have significant impacts on cultural perception were screened based on the fitting degree of the model. Moreover, the differences in the influence intensities were compared according to the standardization coefficient. The statistical results show that cultural locational genes, street form genes, street traffic genes, street architecture genes, featured activity genes, street landscape genes, and street node genes are significantly correlated with cultural perception. Among them, seven indicators are positively correlated with cultural perception, and one indicator is negatively correlated with cultural perception. The impact of historical building interface ratio, Sense of historical architectural sequence, and hard landscape richness on cultural perception is relatively strong. The research in this paper provides a new perspective on the study of historic districts from the perspective of cultural perception, and the results of the research can provide a basis for designers and decision makers in the regeneration of historic districts.

Abstract Background The Omicron variant broke out in China at the end of 2022, causing a considerable number of severe cases and even deaths. The study aimed to identify risk factors for death in patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron infection and to establish a scoring system for predicting mortality. Methods 1817 patients were enrolled at eight hospitals in China from December 2022 to May 2023, including 815 patients in the training group and 1002 patients in the validation group. Forty-six clinical and laboratory features were screened using LASSO regression and multivariable logistic regression. Results In the training set, 730 patients were discharged and 85 patients died. In the validation set, 918 patients were discharged and 84 patients died. LASSO regression identified age, levels of interleukin (IL) -6, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and D-dimer; neutrophil count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as associated with mortality. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that older age, IL-6, BUN, LDH and D-dimer were significant independent risk factors. Based on these variables, a scoring system was developed with a sensitivity of 83.6% and a specificity of 83.5% in the training group, and a sensitivity of 79.8% and a sensitivity of 83.0% in the validation group. Conclusions A scoring system based on age, IL-6, BUN, LDH and D-dime can help clinicians identify patients with poor prognosis early.

Tobacco consumption in China remains the primary cause of preventable mortality, with Shanghai being particularly affected by issues related to secondhand smoke exposure. This study explores the role of the public service hotline 12345, a grassroots initiative in Shanghai, in capturing public sentiment and assessing the effectiveness of anti-smoking regulations. Our research aims to accurately and deeply understand the implementation and feedback of smoking control policies: by identifying high-frequency points and prominent issues in smoking control work based on the smoking control work order data received by the health hotline 12320. The results of this study will assist government enforcement agencies in improving smoking monitoring and clarify the direction for improving smoking control measures. Text-mining techniques were employed to analyze a dataset comprising 78011 call sheets, all related to tobacco control and collected from the hotline between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2019. This methodological approach aims to uncover prevalent themes and sentiments in the public discourse on smoking and its regulation, as reflected in the hotline interactions. Our study identified hotspots and the issues of greatest concern to citizens. Additionally, it provided recommendations to enforcement agencies to enhance their capabilities, optimize the allocation of human resources for smoking control monitoring, reduce enforcement costs and support for anti-smoking campaigns, thereby contributing to more effective tobacco control policies in the region.

Abstract Objective This cross‐sectional study aimed to determine the epidemiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to COVID‐19 in China. Methods This study was conducted by 45 tertiary Grade‐A hospitals in China. Online and offline questionnaire data were obtained from patients infected with COVID‐19 between December 28, 2022, and February 21, 2023. The collected information included basic demographics, medical history, smoking and drinking history, vaccination history, changes in olfactory and gustatory functions before and after infection, and other postinfection symptoms, as well as the duration and improvement status of olfactory and gustatory disorders. Results Complete questionnaires were obtained from 35,566 subjects. The overall incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunction was 67.75%. Being female or being a cigarette smoker increased the likelihood of developing olfactory and taste dysfunction. Having received four doses of the vaccine or having good oral health or being a alcohol drinker decreased the risk of such dysfunction. Before infection, the average olfactory and taste VAS scores were 8.41 and 8.51, respectively; after infection, they decreased to 3.69 and 4.29 and recovered to 5.83 and 6.55 by the time of the survey. The median duration of dysosmia and dysgeusia was 15 and 12 days, respectively, with 0.5% of patients having symptoms lasting for more than 28 days. The overall self‐reported improvement rate was 59.16%. Recovery was higher in males, never smokers, those who received two or three vaccine doses, and those that had never experienced dental health issues, or chronic accompanying symptoms. Conclusions The incidence of dysosmia and dysgeusia following infection with the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus is high in China. Incidence and prognosis are influenced by several factors, including sex, SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccination, history of head‐facial trauma, nasal and oral health status, smoking and drinking history, and the persistence of accompanying symptoms.

Abstract Variants in potassium channel‐related genes are one of the most important mechanisms underlying abnormal neuronal excitation and disturbances in the cellular resting membrane potential. These variants can cause different forms of epilepsy, which can seriously affect the physical and mental health of patients, especially those with refractory epilepsy or status epilepticus, which are common among pediatric patients and are potentially life‐threatening. Variants in potassium ion channel‐related genes have been reported in few studies; however, to our knowledge, no systematic review has been published. This study aimed to summarize the epilepsy phenotypes, functional studies, and pharmacological advances associated with different potassium channel gene variants to assist clinical practitioners and drug development teams to develop evidence‐based medicine and guide research strategies. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for relevant literature on potassium channel‐related epilepsy reported in the past 5–10 years. Various common potassium ion channel gene variants can lead to heterogeneous epilepsy phenotypes, and functional effects can result from gene deletions and compound effects. Administration of select anti‐seizure medications is the primary treatment for this type of epilepsy. Most patients are refractory to anti‐seizure medications, and some novel anti‐seizure medications have been found to improve seizures. Use of targeted drugs to correct aberrant channel function based on the type of potassium channel gene variant can be used as an evidence‐based pathway to achieve precise and individualized treatment for children with epilepsy. Plain Language Summary In this article, the pathogenesis and clinical characteristics of epilepsy caused by different types of potassium channel gene variants are reviewed in the light of the latest research literature at home and abroad, with the expectation of providing a certain theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of children with this type of disease.

Infection and poor tissue repair are the key causes of percutaneous implantation failure. However, there is a lack of effective strategies to cope with due to its high requirements of sterilization, soft tissue healing, and osseointegration. In this work, l-arginine (L-Arg) was loaded onto a sulfonated polyetheretherketone (PEEK) surface to solve this issue. Under the infection condition, nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced through catalyzing L-Arg by inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and thus play a role in bacteria sterilization. Under the tissue repair condition, L-Arg is catalyzed to ornithine by Arginase-1 (Arg-1), which promotes the proliferation and collagen secretion of L929 and rBMSCs. Notably, L-Arg loading samples could polarize macrophages to M1 and M2 in infection and tissue repair conditions, respectively. The results in vivo show that the L-Arg loading samples could enhance infected soft tissue sealing and bone regeneration. In summary, L-Arg loading sulfonated PEEK could polarize macrophage through metabolic reprogramming, providing multi-functions of antibacterial abilities, soft tissue repair, and bone regeneration, which gives a new idea to design percutaneous implantation materials.

Abstract Recent developments in intelligent robot systems, especially autonomous vehicles, put forward higher requirements for safety and comfort. Road conditions are crucial factors affecting the comprehensive performance of ground vehicles. Nonetheless, existing environment perception datasets for autonomous driving lack attention to road surface areas. In this paper, we introduce the road surface reconstruction dataset, providing multi-modal, high-resolution, and high-precision data collected by real-vehicle platform in diverse driving conditions. It covers common road types containing approximately 16,000 pairs of stereo images, point clouds, and ground-truth depth/disparity maps, with accurate data processing pipelines to ensure its quality. Preliminary evaluations reveal the effectiveness of our dataset and the challenge of the task, underscoring substantial opportunities of it as a valuable resource for advancing computer vision techniques. The reconstructed road structure and texture contribute to the analysis and prediction of vehicle responses for motion planning and control systems.

Oleanolic acid (OA) is a pentacyclic triterpene with reported protective effects against various diseases, including diabetes, hepatitis, and different cancers. However, the effects of OA on obesity‐induced muscle atrophy remain largely unknown. This study investigated the effects of OA on skeletal muscle production and proliferation of C2C12 cells. We report that OA significantly increased skeletal muscle mass and improved glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. OA inhibited dexamethasone (Dex)‐induced muscle atrophy in C2C12 myoblasts by regulating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. In addition, it also inhibited expression of MuRF1 and Atrogin1 genes in skeletal muscle of obese mice suffering from muscle atrophy, and increased the activation of PI3K and Akt, thereby promoting protein synthesis, and eventually alleviating muscle atrophy. Taken together, these findings suggest OA may have potential for the prevention and treatment of muscle atrophy.

Abstract Social defeat stress is associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, inflammation and apoptosis. ER stress is thought to contribute to many lifestyle diseases such as liver injury, cardiovascular dysfunction and depression. We investigated the expression of the ER stress markers RNA-dependent protein kinase-like ER kinase (PERK), eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α (eIF2α) and C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), as well as inflammatory and apoptotic factors, to assess how social defeat stress induces liver injury. Furthermore, we evaluated the effects of the ER stress inhibitor phenylbutyric acid (PBA) and ER stress inducer thapsigargin (TG) on liver injury. Adult mice were divided into the control, social defeat, social defeat + PBA, TG, PBA and TG + PBA groups. The social defeat and social defeat + PBA groups were simultaneously exposed to social defeat stress for 10 days. The social defeat + PBA, TG, PBA and TG + PBA groups were treated with PBA or TG via intraperitoneal injections. PBA was injected 1 h before the TG injection into the TG + PBA group. Liver samples from six groups of mice were analyzed by histological analysis and western blotting. Social defeat stress promoted ER stress, increased the expression of inflammatory factors and induced apoptosis in the liver of socially defeated mice, which was reversed by PBA. Moreover, ER stress induces TG-induced liver injury by initiating ER stress. Social defeat stress initiates ER stress, promotes the expression of inflammatory and apoptotic factors, and induces liver injury. PBA suppresses liver injury caused by social defeat stress and TG treatment.

Abstract With the increasing depth of engineering in rock masses, the issue of significant rheological deformation becomes notably prominent. To accurately characterize the deformation and failure behavior of the surrounding rock near the goaf in deep small coal pillars, we have developed a viscoelastic–plastic constitutive model that takes into account the initial stress associated with creep. This model builds upon an existing viscoelastic–plastic constitutive framework and is implemented numerically using C++ in the FLAC3D. The Oedometer test method is used to check the creep components and the calculated parameter (η/G) ensure convergence of numerical operations. We conducted both pre‐improvement and post‐improvement tests of the constitutive model in a simple numerical analysis of roadways. The enhanced model demonstrates improved accuracy in deviational stress calculations and proves suitable for modeling deep, soft roadways. Furthermore, we applied the improved model to simulate actual working conditions at Zhaozhuang Mine, where mining operations near the working face induce a fracture zone of approximately 3 m in the small coal pillar located at the goaf's edge. The new model closely aligns with the observed results, further validating its suitability for tunneling along the goaf. Tunneling and mining activities result in significant deformation at various locations, including the shoulder socket of the working face, the top angle of the coal pillar, and the bottom angle of the floor. The crushing zone at the working face extends up to 4 m. Rheological effects transform the triangular elastic core, from its original high‐pressure elastic state to a fracture and plastic zone in the deep coal. Stress in deep coal is transmitted along the triangular elastic core. Numerical simulation results closely match the excavation profile of the tunneling, providing valuable insights into the impact of mining activities. This study can provide reference for deformation of similar geological conditions and engineering situation.

BackgroundArtesunate (ART), a natural compound derived from Artemisia annua, has shown promising clinical potentials in the treatment of various tumors, but the exact mechanism is unclear. Choroidal melanoma (CM) is a major malignant ocular tumor in adults, known for its significant malignancy and poor prognosis, with limited efficacy in current treatments. This study explored the anti-CM effects and mechanisms of ART using a combination of network pharmacology, molecular docking and experimental validation.MethodsPotential targets of ART were screened in PubChem, Swiss Target Prediction and Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) Database Analysis Platform databases, while target genes related to CM prognosis were selected from Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), GeneCards and DisGeNET databases. The intersection of these two groups of datasets yielded the target genes of ART involved in CM. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis of the intersecting targets, as well as Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses, were conducted to identify core targets and critical pathways. Molecular docking methods were performed to predict the binding interactions between ART and core targets. The effects of ART on CM were evaluated through CCK8, colony formation, transwell, as well as flow cytometry assays to detect apoptosis, cell cycle, reactive oxygen species (ROS). Western blot (WB) assays were conducted to investigate the impact of ART on key proteins and pathways associated with CM. Finally, in vivo assays were conducted to further validate the effects of ART on subcutaneous tumors in nude mice.ResultsResearch has shown that key pathways and core targets for ART in treating CM were identified through a network pharmacology approach. Molecular docking results verified the strong binding affinity between ART and these core targets. The analysis and predicted results indicated that ART primarily exerted its effects on CM through various tumor-related pathways like apoptosis. The assays in vitro confirmed that ART significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of CM cells. This was achieved by promoting apoptosis through activation of the p53 signaling pathway, causing cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and increasing the intracellular level of ROS by activating the NRF2/HO-1 signaling pathway. Additionally, the assays in vivo further validated the significant proliferation-inhibitory effect of ART on CM.ConclusionThis study, making the initial exploration, illustrated through network pharmacology combined with molecular docking and in vitro/in vivo assays, confirmed that ART exerted potential anti-cancer effects on CM by promoting apoptosis, inducing cell cycle arrest and increasing intracellular levels of ROS. These findings suggested that ART held significant therapeutic potential for CM.

The understanding of the interplay between the environment, ecosystem structure, and function is crucial for effectively managing ecosystems in the face of climate change and environmental disturbances. Numerous observations and simulation experiments relying on correlation analysis have yielded the conclusion that environmental factors can directly or indirectly affect ecosystem community structure and function. However, the limitations of traditional ecological approaches lie in their inadequate control over confounding factors, thus hindering our comprehensive understanding of the true causal relationships. Our study aims to address these limitations and obtain a more accurate picture of causality about environment, ecosystem structure and function within a long-term time series data of an ecosystem. Here, utilizing a 31-year dataset of typical temperate grassland ecosystems, we developed an advanced causal discovery model and further enhanced it to effectively identify the causal network within the ecosystem, while also quantifying the intensity of causal pathways connecting the environment, ecosystem structure, and function. We found that the primary driver for changes in ecosystem structure and function was the temperature during the growing season, with soil water content being the secondary factor. However, there was only a weak causal relationship between ecosystem structure and gross primary productivity (GPP), which was mediated by eurytopic xerophyte plants. These findings challenge the conventional notion that precipitation is a key driver of changes in ecosystem carbon fluxes, highlighting the importance of plant-available water in regulating ecosystem structure and function. Our results suggest that the effects of global warming and severe droughts on plant growth and carbon sequestration capacity necessitate significant attention and further mitigation measures in arid and semi-arid regions.

BackgroundMajor depressive disorder (MDD) is the leading cause of disability among all mental illnesses with increasing prevalence. The diagnosis of MDD is susceptible to interference by several factors, which has led to a trend of exploring objective biomarkers. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive procedure that is being gradually applied to detect and diagnose MDD through some features such as functional connectivity (FC).MethodsIn this research, we analyzed the resting-state EEG of patients with MDD and healthy controls (HCs) in both eyes-open (EO) and eyes-closed (EC) conditions. The phase locking value (PLV) method was utilized to explore the connection and synchronization of neuronal activities spatiotemporally between different brain regions. We compared the PLV between participants with MDD and HCs in five frequency bands (theta, 4–8 Hz; alpha, 8–12 Hz; beta1, 12–16 Hz; beta2, 16–24 Hz; and beta3, 24–40 Hz) and further analyzed the correlation between the PLV of connections with significant differences and the severity of depression (via the scores of 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, HDRS-17).ResultsDuring the EO period, lower PLVs were found in the right temporal-left midline occipital cortex (RT-LMOC; theta, alpha, beta1, and beta2) and posterior parietal-right temporal cortex (PP-RT; beta1 and beta2) in the MDD group compared with the HC group, while PLVs were higher in the MDD group in LT-LMOC (beta2). During the EC period, for the MDD group, lower theta and beta (beta1, beta2, and beta3) PLVs were found in PP-RT, as well as lower theta, alpha, and beta (beta1, beta2, and beta3) PLVs in RT-LMOC. Additionally, in the left midline frontal cortex-right temporal cortex (LMFC-RT) and posterior parietal cortex-right temporal cortex (PP-RMOC), higher PLVs were observed in beta2. There were no significant correlations between PLVs and HDRS-17 scores when connections with significantly different PLVs (all p > 0.05) were checked.ConclusionOur study confirmed the presence of differences in FC between patients with MDD and healthy individuals. Lower PLVs in the connection of the right temporal-left occipital cortex were mostly observed, whereas an increase in PLVs was observed in patients with MDD in the connections of the left temporal with occipital lobe (EO), the circuits of the frontal-temporal lobe, and the parietal-occipital lobe. The trends in FC involved in this study were not correlated with the level of depression.LimitationsThe study was limited due to the lack of further analysis of confounding factors and follow-up data. Future studies with large-sampled and long-term designs are needed to further explore the distinguishable features of EEG FC in individuals with MDD.

Lipids are components of cytomembranes that are involved in various biochemical processes. High-altitude hypoxic environments not only affect the body’s energy metabolism, but these environments can also cause abnormal lipid metabolism involved in the hypoxia-induced cognitive impairment. Thus, comprehensive lipidomic profiling of the brain tissue is an essential step toward understanding the mechanism of cognitive impairment induced by hypoxic exposure. In the present study, mice showed reduced new-object recognition and spatial memory when exposed to hypobaric hypoxia for 1 day. Histomorphological staining revealed significant morphological and structural damage to the hippocampal tissue, along with prolonged exposure to hypobaric hypoxia. Dynamic lipidomics of the mouse hippocampus showed a significant shift in both the type and distribution of phospholipids, as verified by spatial lipid mapping. Collectively, a diverse and dynamic lipid composition in mice hippocampus was uncovered, which deepens our understanding of biochemical changes during sustained hypoxic exposure and could provide new insights into the cognitive decline induced by high-altitude hypoxia exposure.

When a strong earthquake occurs, roads are the lifelines of rescue. The rapid development of high-resolution satellite imaging platforms has made the application of remote sensing technology for road damage identification possible. Over the years, road damage identification has required a significant amount of manual involvement, making it difficult to meet the needs of rapid post-disaster response. The automatic recognition of road damage using satellite images has always been difficult. Damaged areas appear in the satellite images with blurry boundaries, versatile sizes, and uneven spatial distributions. With the aim of automatic pixel-level road damage identification, we introduce the first road damage dataset, CAU-RoadDamage, which includes high-resolution satellite images and pixel-level human annotations. Moreover, we propose the application of a pre-trained vision foundation model for the first time to automatically identify road damage. Low-rank adaptation technology is used to fine-tune the foundation model on the satellite images, and two-way attention is used to integrate the foundation model with domain specialist model components. The proposed segmentation model is compared to multiple state-of-the-art methods on the CAU-RoadDamage dataset. Our approach achieves the highest F1 of 76.09%, which is notably higher than that of the other models. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of pixel-level road damage recognition and the applicability of vision foundation models for downstream remote sensing tasks. In recent years, despite the fact that the Chinese government is closely monitoring food safety, the perception of food production enterprises is not obvious. The reason is that information asymmetry hinders the effective transmission of regulatory information to food production enterprises. In the present research, a choice test is conducted to explore the preference of decision-makers for the information on government regulations in 224 food production enterprises with violations. It is found out that the decision-makers of food production enterprises have a strong preference for the regulatory information released by local governments. With a preference for reference information, compared to those who violate the law just once, decision-makers in food production companies that have several infractions exhibit a high ''reference dependence'' mentality. Also, the preference of different decision-maker characteristics shows an evident heterogeneity, as does the preference of various enterprises for the regulatory information about food safety. It is recommended that the government should improve the mechanism of disclosing the information about food safety, and focus on tailoring the information to different types of enterprises.

Abstract Objectives Special needs dentistry (SND) is a vast and fragmented field of study. This comprehensive bibliometric analysis aimed to evaluate the scope of SND, including the existing knowledge base, distribution structure, quantitative relationships, and research trends. Material and Methods A systematic search was conducted on March 10, 2022, using the Web of Science Core Collection database, covering the period from 1985 to 2021, focusing on studies reporting on special needs populations in a dentally relevant context. Records were title‐screened and analyzed for key bibliometric indicators. Results Among 48,374 articles, 13,869 underwent bibliometric analysis. Peak SND research occurred during 1985–1997. United States led in productivity, trailed by Brazil and Japan. University of Sao Paulo excelled in Brazil, University of Washington and University of North Carolina in the United States. The Journal of Dental Research was the most productive source of research and also had the highest number of citations, followed by Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. Keyword analysis revealed that “elderly”, “caries”, and “epidemiology” were the most commonly used author keywords. Conclusions This study represents the first bibliometric analysis of SND literature. It emphasizes the need for increased collaboration between institutions and authors. Furthermore, it suggests focusing on research input from non‐dental disciplines and populations with rarer intellectual or developmental conditions.

The valley index is a promising degree of freedom for information processing in electronic devices. However, the researches on valley polarization are mainly focused on ferromagnetic order, which breaks the time reversal symmetry simultaneously. Here, a novel paradigm for achieving stacking order modulated anomalous valley Hall (AVH) effect is proposed in antiferromagnetic monolayers. The paradigm involves the introduction and reversal of nonuniform potentials by modulating the position of substrate, to break the combined symmetry of spatial inversion and time reversal (PT symmetry) and achieve stacking-dependent valley spin splitting. Based on first-principles calculations, we discover spontaneous valley polarization in antiferromagnetic Cr2CH2 MXene and stacking-dependent valley spin splitting in Cr2CH2/Sc2CO2 heterostructure. Furthermore, switching the ferroelectric polarization of monolayer Sc2CO2 results in a semiconductor-metal transition in Cr2CH2/Sc2CO2, accompanied by the disappearance of valley physics. Our findings provide an alternative way to develop controllable valleytronics devices based on antiferromagnetic monolayers.

Abstract Obesity increases the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia, and the gut microbiota can affect brain cognitive function and obesity through a variety of pathways such as the gut-brain axis. This study aimed to discover how fatty acid affect cognitive function by regulating intestinal flora in obesity. Obese subjects were recruited for cognitive function assessment, and participants were divided into obese group with cognitive impairment (MCI, n = 49) and obese cognitively normal group (Non_MCI, n = 55). In the erythrocyte membrane, the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), linoleic acid (C18:2 n-6) and arachidonic acid (C20:4 n-6) and n-6/n-3 ratio was higher in the MCI group than in the Non_MCI group. However, the α-linolenic acid (C18:3 n-3) percentage of the erythrocyte membrane was lower in the MCI group. We found that Coriobacteriales_Incertae_Sedis was positively correlated with erythrocyte membrane C20:4 n-6 and n-6 PUFA and negatively correlated with cognitive scores in obese patients. In addition, several of the functional pathways we predicted were significantly different in the MCI and Non_MCI groups. Higher levels of n-6/n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids ratio in the erythrocyte membranes may influence the inflammatory response in the organism causing obesity induced cognitive damage. Moreover, high levels of n-6/n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids ratio may also affect the intestinal flora of obese patients, which in turn may affect the cognitive function of obese patients.

ABSTRACT: Flavor sensation is one of the most prevalent characteristics of food industries and an important consumer preference regulator of dairy products. So far, many volatile compounds have been identified, and their molecular mechanisms conferring overall flavor formation have been reported extensively. However, little is known about the critical flavor compound of a specific sensory experience in terms of oxidized off-flavor perception. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare the variation in sensory qualities and volatile flavors in full-fat UHT milk (FFM) and low-fat UHT milk (LFM) samples under different natural storage conditions (0, 4, 18, 25, 30, or 37°C for 15 and 30 d) and determine the main component causing flavor deterioration in the FFM and LFM samples using sensory evaluation, electronic nose, and headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS). In addition, the Pearson correlation between the volatile flavor components and oxidative off-flavors was analyzed and validated by sensory reconstitution studies. Compared with the LFM samples, the FFM samples showed a higher degree of quality deterioration with increased storage temperature. Methyl ketones of odd carbon chains (i.e., 2-heptanone, 2-nonanone, 2-undecanone, 2-tridecanone, and 2-pentadecanone) reached a maximum content in the FFM37 samples over 30 d storage. The combined results of the Pearson correlation and sensory recombination study indicated that 2-heptanone, 2-nonanone, and 2-undecanone conferred off-flavor perception. Overall, the present study results provide potential target components for detecting and developing high-quality dairy products and lay a foundation for specific sensory flavor compound exploration in the food industry.

Abstract Understanding how dietary polysaccharides affect mucin O-glycosylation and gut microbiota could provide various nutrition-based treatments. Here, the O-glycan profile of the colonic mucosa and gut microbiome were investigated in C57BL/6J mice fed six structurally diverse dietary polysaccharides and a mixture of six fibers. Dietary polysaccharides increased total O-glycans, mainly by stimulating neutral glycans. Highly branched arabinogalactan promoted terminally fucosylated core 1 O-glycans; whereas linear polysaccharides, including pectin, konjac glucomannan, inulin, and the fiber mixture, favored terminally di-fucosylated O-glycans. The last three polysaccharides also lowered the level of sulfated O-glycans and sialylated mono-fucosylated O-glycans. Varied monosaccharide composition in mixed polysaccharides had a synergistic beneficial effect, boosting fucosylated neutral glycans, decreasing acidic glycans, and stimulating microbial richness and diversity. Dietary polysaccharides containing arabinose and sulfate groups enhanced the relative abundances of Akkermansia and Muribaculaceae, respectively. The present comparison reveals the relationship between dietary polysaccharide structure, mucin O-glycan composition, and intestinal microorganisms.

Background: Neuroinflammation is responsible for neuropsychiatric dysfunction following acute brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. This study describes how a hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PHD) inhibitor FG-4592 prevents the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute neuroinflammation in microglia. Methods: The distribution of FG-4592 in mouse brain tissues was determined by collision-induced dissociation tandem mass spectrometry. Microglial activation in the hippocampus was analyzed by immunofluorescence. Moreover, we determined the activation of HIF-1 and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathways, proinflammatory responses using molecular biological techniques. Transcriptome sequencing and BNIP3 silencing were conducted to explore signaling pathway and molecular mechanisms underlying FG-4592 anti-inflammatory activity. Results: FG-4592 was transported into the brain tissues and LPS increased its transportation. FG-4592 promoted the expression of HIF-1α and induced the downstream gene transcription in the hippocampus. Administration with FG-4592 significantly inhibited microglial hyperactivation and decreased proinflammatory cytokine levels following LPS treatment in the hippocampus. The LPS-induced inflammatory responses and the NF-κB signaling pathway were also downregulated by FG-4592 pretreatment in microglial cells. Mechanistically, Venn diagram analysis of transcriptomic changes of BV2 cells identified that BNIP3 was a shared and common differentially expressed gene among different treatment groups. FG-4592 markedly upregulated the protein levels of BNIP3 in microglia. Importantly, BNIP3 knockdown aggravated the LPS-stimulated inflammatory responses and partially reversed the protection of FG-4592 against microglial inflammatory signaling and microglial activation in the mouse hippocampus. Conclusions: FG-4592 alleviates neuroinflammation through facilitating microglial HIF-1/BNIP3 signaling pathway in mice. Targeting HIF-PHD/HIF-1/BNIP3 axis is a promising strategy for the development of anti-neuroinflammation drugs.

Abstract Objectives To investigate the role of Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the psychotic symptoms in first‐episode patients with schizophrenia and whether BDNF levels were associated with the improvement of psychotic symptoms after risperidone treatment. Methods 89 schizophrenia patients and 90 healthy controls were recruited, the schizophrenia patients were assigned into early response or early non‐response groups at 2 weeks based on improvement in the positive and negative symptoms scale (PANSS) total score. All patients were treated with risperidone for 2 weeks, their serum BDNF levels were compared at baseline and after 2 weeks treatment. Results We found that patients had lower BDNF levels, compared to controls at baseline. After 2 weeks of treatment of risperidone, BDNF levels were significantly increased and psychotic symptoms were decreased in early response group. Correlation analysis showed that the change of BDNF levels after treatment was correlated with the change of PANSS total score. Further regression analysis showed that the change in BDNF levels was an independent predictor for the improvement in psychotic symptoms. Conclusions Our findings reveal that the level of BDNF was lower in first‐episode schizophrenic patients, moreover, the changes in serum BDNF levels may have a predictive effect on the early improvement in psychotic symptoms in the first 2 weeks.

Abstract To evaluate the feasibility and clinical significance of the left perinephric fat sac vein (PFSV) as an anatomical landmark in locating left adrenal gland (LAD) during retroperitoneal laparoscopic left adrenalectomy (RLLA). In this study, a total of 36 patients who underwent RLLA were enrolled from February 2019 and March 2021. By following a vein vessel on the internal surface of perinephric fat sac (PFS), known as PFSV, LAD was searched finally along the upper edge of this vein. The demographic and clinical characteristics of these patients were acquired, including tumor features and perioperative outcomes (operating time, estimated blood loss, complications). The operations were successfully completed in all the 36 patients without conversion to open surgery. In addition, the LAD was successfully found along the upper edge of PFSV in 34 patients. For all operations, the mean operative time was 75 min (range 60–95) and the estimated blood loss was 20 ml (range 10–50). The median oral intake was 20.7 h (range 6–39). The median hospital stay was 6.3 days (range 4–9), and the median follow-up was 12.3 months (range 9–17). Moreover, no intraoperative complications were observed and no residual tumors were detected after 9 to 15 months follow-up. It may be a safe and efficient procedure to use PFSV as a landmark for searching LAD during RLLA, especially for beginners. However, more studies with larger sample size are need to be conducted to further evaluate the outcomes of this method and the significance of PFSV in searching LAD during RLLA.

In this paper, the velocity and altitude control problem of hypersonic vehicles is studied. Aiming at the nonlinear parameter uncertainties, external disturbances and coupling of the hypersonic vehicle system, a control method combining backstepping control with linear active disturbance rejection control is proposed. The backstepping control solves the coupling of the system and transforms the longitudinal dynamic model of the hypersonic vehicle into the form of strict feedback, which is divided into the altitude subsystem and velocity subsystem. The linear extension state observer (LESO) can observe parameter uncertainty disturbance and external disturbance. At the same time, the stability of the system is proved by Lyapunov theory. Finally, the effectiveness of the designed controller is verified by numerical simulation and comparison with classical PID control.
