The aim of the article is to disclose theoretical and applied approaches to assessing the budgetary component of the financial security of the region. It is proposed to consider the financial security of the region as a state that reflects the financial capacity of the territory to ensure the potential for development by balancing financial resources, taking into account existential risks, threats and dangers. An approach to assessing the budgetary security of the region has been developed on the example of the Lviv region. It is noted that the revenue part was formed at the expense of tax, non-tax revenues, income from capital transactions and official transfers, which consisted of subsidies and subventions. In the structure of tax revenues, the largest share was occupied by taxes on income, profit, rent and payment for the use of water, subsoil, and other natural resources. Non-tax revenues were formed at the expense of own revenues of budgetary institutions and income from property, administration of fees and payments, income from non-commercial economic activities. Transfers in the form of subsidies and subventions came from public administration bodies to the local budget, among which subventions prevailed in targeted areas of use, aimed at supporting the needs of the State functioning under martial law, health care institutions and measures, educational needs, road repairs, etc. It is proved that the independence of budgets is possible only if there are sufficient own revenue sources. From the standpoint of observing the financial security of the region and taking into account international experience, an approach is recommended, according to which the share of own revenues in the budgets of self-government bodies should be at least 40%. It is substantiated that for 2018–2022 most of the expenditures of the regional budget of the Lviv region were directed to the socio-cultural sphere (education, health care, social protection and social security). Further research will be aimed at developing a comprehensive methodology for assessing the financial security of a region in the context of certain components and calculating an integral indicator of its level.

From the responses, we assessed data characteristics including population coverage, data follow-up, clinical information, validity of diagnoses, medication use and data latency. We also evaluated the possibility of conversion into a common data model (CDM) to implement a federated network approach. Moreover, we used radar charts to visualize the data capacity assessments, based on different perspectives.Results: The results indicated that the 15 databases covered approximately 320 million individuals, included in 7 nationwide claims databases from Australia, Finland, South Korea, Taiwan and the US, 6 population-based electronic health record databases from Hong Kong, Scotland, Taiwan, the Netherlands and the UK, and 2 biomedical databases from Taiwan and the UK.Conclusion: The 15 databases showed good potential for a federated network approach using a common data model. In order to maximize the utility of future studies of trilobite ontogeny, we propose a set of standard practices that relate to the collection, nomenclature, description, depiction, and interpretation of ontogenetic series inferred from articulated specimens belonging to individual species. In some cases, these suggestions may also apply to ontogenetic studies of other fossilized taxa.

The CRUMBEL project aims to investigate the mobility of the former population in Belgium from the Neolithic period until the Early Middle Ages. To reach these research goals different topics will be studied. In a preliminary phase, the ancient collections of cremated bone will be documented. A selection of these funerary sites will be studied to understand the mobility using different archaeometric approaches as stable isotopes and radiocarbon dating to obtain reliable information on earlier mobility in Belgium.

Abstract The degradation and loss of ecologically important wetlands has been a topical issue in the Great Lakes region, where 60–80% of the coastal wetlands have been lost since the 1800s. The present modeling study aims to guide the restoration efforts in Cootes Paradise marsh, one of the most degraded shallow wetlands in Southern Ontario. We use a process‐based eutrophication model designed to reproduce the biotic competition among multiple phytoplankton and macrophyte functional groups. Our primary focus is to offer guidelines for wetland restoration by characterizing the ecophysiological processes of the autotrophic assemblage, such as the nutrient uptake from the water column and/or the sediment pore waters, the relative ability to harvest light and fuel photosynthesis, and temperature control of the algal/macrophyte growth and basal metabolism. We predict that the additional reduction of external phosphorus loading in Cootes Paradise could induce an abrupt, non‐linear shift from the current turbid phytoplankton‐dominated state to a desirable clear macrophyte‐dominated state. The emergence of this critical (or tipping) point, where the shift to another ecological state may occur, can be accelerated by the presence of a thriving macrophyte community with an enhanced ability to sequester phosphorus. However, it may also be delayed by the presence of a suite of biogeochemical mechanisms (often referred to as “feedback loops”), such as the remobilization of legacy P due to sediment diagenetic processes, wind resuspension, bioturbation, hydraulic loading from local tributaries, water‐level fluctuations, and the leachable P pool of dead plant material that can be returned into the water column through senescence. Our study identifies the restoration actions required to minimize the likelihood of prolonged hysteresis and to facilitate a shift to a desirable ecological state in the foreseeable future. The areal expansion of aquatic vegetation will not only lead to the establishment of a thriving meadow and emergent vegetation community, but may also pave the way for submerged macrophytes through a suite of synergistic mechanisms. Additional point‐source loading reductions will facilitate the transition to an alternative stable clear macrophyte‐dominated state, but could also consolidate the future resilience of the marsh.

The experiment was set on lessive soil developed from heavy loamy sand. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of 500 kg S ha-1 year-1 dose on intensification of respiration activity, intensification of amonification and nitrification processes in soil. The soil was amended with liquid manure (120 m3 ha-1 year-1) before acid rainfall dose application. Nitrification process was inhibited by acidic rainfall but stimulated by liquid manure fertilization. Sulphating and liquid manure applied stimulated the respiration activity and intensification of amonification processes.

The paper addresses the problems of the effect of food on human health. It presents the chemical composition, the proportions of amino acids, fatty acids and saccharides in food products that we consume, and their effect on food quality and safety. It also presents the functions and criteria that should be met by food products, and the conditions in which they should be produced so that their consumption may be the least harmful to the organism. The paper presents also a classification of food products in conformance with the current definitions of functional food and nutraceuticals. Based on a literature review, it is demonstrated what chemical composition of food is particularly dangerous in the aspect of disorders of the cardiovascular system and neoplastic diseases. The paper addresses also the role of fatty acids and their impact on the development of various diseases. Also presented is the study on the oil “Kropla Zdrowia” that was conducted at the Institute of Agrophysics in the medical aspect.

Research was conducted in connection with the pressure exerted by man on the environment through the use of pesticides. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of pesticides on soil and to evaluate the effect of these changes on greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. The research was carried out on soil sown with oilseed rape. The activity of protease and urease, ammonification, nitrification in soil, as well as CO2 (carbon dioxide) and N2O (nitrous oxide) gas emissions from soil were assessed. The analyses were carried out directly after harvest and 2 months after. Pesticides most frequently negatively affected the tested parameters, in particular enzymatic activities. Of the two herbicides used, Roundup had a stronger negative impact on microbial activity. The application of pesticides, especially the fungicide, resulted in an increase in gas emissions to the atmosphere over time. Pesticides disturbed soil environmental balance, probably interfering with qualitative and quantitative relationships of soil microorganism populations and their metabolic processes. This led to the accumulation of microbial activity products in the form of, among others, gases which contribute to the greenhouse effect by escaping from the soil into the atmosphere.

Досліджено товарознавчі аспекти вітчизняного ринку керамічної плитки, охарактеризовано його особливості та проблеми розвитку. Встановлено, що розвиток ринку керамічної плитки в Україні значною мірою залежить від темпів житлового будівництва. З'ясовано, що з 2013 р. ринок керамічної плитки в Україні характеризується негативною динамікою обсягів споживання, виробництва, експорту та імпорту. Виявлено, що найбільша частка у вітчизняному виробництві та зовнішній торгівлі припадає на глазуровану керамічну плитку. За останні 10 років у керамічній галузі здійснено модернізацію та запроваджено нові технології формування плитки та нанесення оздоблень. Охарактеризовано закономірності сезонних коливань попиту та виробництва керамічної плитки. Аналіз ринку загалом показав, що плитка керамічна вітчизняного виробництва користувалася більшим попитом, ніж імпортна. У зовнішній торгівлі керамічною плиткою експорт перевищує імпорт, тобто спостерігається позитивне сальдо, що свідчить про зростання конкурентоспроможності вітчизняної продукції порівняно із закордонними аналогами. З'ясовано, що основними постачальниками керамічної плитки в Україну є Польща, Іспанія, Китай, Туреччина та Італія. Українську керамічну плитку в найбільших обсягах експортують до Російської Федерації, Білорусі, Казахстану та Молдови. Аналіз асортименту показав, що на українському ринку представлена керамічна плитка у широкому асортименті, різних типів і декоративного оформлення. Найпоширенішими видами є пресована плитка бікоттура, монокоттура, монопороза та керамограніт природних відтінків та з імітацією мармуру, каменю, деревини, бетону, текстилю тощо.

The objective of this review was to evaluate the botanical and pharmacological description of Petasites species. Petasides (butterbur) as a perennial shrub which was found in Europe and also in a parts of Asia and North America, has been widely used medicinally for centuries. At present, the main phytopharmacology uses for Petasides extracts are for prophylactic treatment of migraines, as well as an antispasmodic agent for bronchial asthma and pertussis. Furthermore, it has been used effectively in preventing gastric ulcers, and in urinary tract spasms and treating patients with irritable bladder. But still, there is a need for more studies on the potential applications of butterbur extract in medicine.

Tobacco dust colonization by soil fungi involves the succession of physiologically differentiated groups. They are characterized by poorly diversified species composition and are dominated by potentially phytopathogenic forms.

Since 2016, hobby metal-detecting is legal in Flanders (Belgium), although it was unofficially tolerated for many years before. However, research on metal-detected artefacts in Flanders is hindered by a low reporting rate. The MEDEA project aims to address this by encouraging detectorists to record their finds on an online platform. Finds experts are invited to enrich records with further information and thus instigate a rewarding feedback cycle. This paper discusses MEDEA’s ‘Human-Centred Design’ development process and the design choices underpinning the platform. MEDEA may be seen as an example of ‘Open Archaeology’ and related trends in digital humanities.

We have determined the parameters of oil expression process for non-typical seeds of oil-producing plants, such as quince tree, safflower, fennel-flower, cuckoo-flower, tarweed, lallemantia, sea-buckthorn, borage, evening primrose, mustard, and others. The relative moisture of most of the seeds tested ranged from 5.5% to 8.9%. The values of the oil point pressure obtained for the seeds permitted detailed classification of the plant species under study into 7 seed hardness groups. The largest group belonged to the pressure range from 10 to 15 MPa (oil flax, spring rapeseed cvs Bronowski, Mazowiecki, and Star, spring rape cv. Porkland and local population, oil radish, spring camelina, mustard cv. Małopolska, evening primrose cv. UWM). The oil content in this group was above 30%, and in the case of rapeseed cv. Mazowiecki and Bronowski it was 40%. The values of compression energy obtained for the materials studied in the oil test ranged from 3.69 J (oil sunflower cv. Wielkopolski) to 64.18 J (sea-buckthorn).

Nawożenie osadami ściekowymi wpływa nie tylko na rośliny, właściwości fizyczne i chemiczne gleb, ale także na parametry mikrobiologiczne. Badania nad wpływem osadu ścieków mleczarskich na właściwości mikrobiologiczne gleb były głównie krótkoterminowe i prowadzone w warunkach laboratoryjnych. Dlatego też badania prezentowane w niniejszej pracy przeprowadzone zostały w warunkach polowych w różnych latach oddziaływania osadu ścieków mleczarskich na wybrane właściwości mikrobiologiczne gleby brunatnej. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały, że osad ścieków mleczarskich na ogół stymulował rozwój drobnoustrojów. Najwyższą liczebność mikroorganizmów stwierdzono w drugim roku oddziaływania odpadu.

The aim of the present study was evaluation of the influence of sewage sludge from dairy on the enzymatic activity of soil. Soil samples were taken from the experiment estabilished on brown soil. The experiment included the following treatments: 1 – soil + sewage sludge from dairy, 2 – soil + sewage sludge from dairy + farmyard manure (FYM), K – soil control, no sludge. Sewage sludge was applied at the rate 22 t ha-1 yr-1 and FYM at the rate 20 t ha-1 yr-1. In the field experiment the effect of sewage sludge was studied for the activity of the following soil enzymes: dehydrogenases, protease and urease. It was found out that the effect of sewage sludge on the soil enzymatic activity was related to the kind of enzyme under study. Sewage sludge stimulated protease and dehydrogenases activity and inhibited urease activity.

It was found out that the effect of sewage sludge from dairy on the number of nitrifying bacteria was stimulated. Sewage sludge did not influence the number of ammonifying bacteria. Fertilization of sewage sludge increased amonification rates and inhibited the nitrification process.

The aim of the work was to determine the trend, intensity and changes of selected microbial and phytotoxic parameters of degraded soil in the area of former sulphur mine reclaimed by post-flotation lime (PFL), sewage sludge (SS), mineral wool (MW- mixed with soil, MWP-pad) and mineral fertilizer (NPK). The following parameters: number of proteolytic bacteria and fungi, ammonification, nitrification, activities of alkaline phosphatase and arylsulphatase Lepidium sativum growth index (GI) and phenolic compounds were analysed in the soil in second and third year of the experiment. The addition of the SS separately or in combination with other remediation agents was found to be the most valuable for the number of microorganisms, intensification of nitrification process and enzymatic activities. In objects where other materials were added without sewage sludge, the inhibition of fungal growth as well as alkaline phosphatase and arylsulphatase activities was observed, however the inhibitory effect declined with time. The observed increase of GI shows the long-term, positive effect of treatments on soil properties concerning plant growth. The use of lime and lime together with sewage sludge contributed to the decrease in the content of phenolic compounds in the reclaimed soil. Understanding how the activity of transcription factors like HOX proteins is regulated remains a widely open question. In a recent screen for proteins interacting with HOXA1, we identified a PRDM protein family member, PRDM14, which is known to be transiently co-expressed with HOXA1 in epiblast cells before their specification towards somatic versus germ cell fate. Here, we confirm PRDM14 is an interactor of HOXA1 and we identify the homeodomain of HOXA1 as well as the PR domain and Zinc fingers of PRDM14 to be required for the interaction. An 11-His repeat of HOXA1 previously highlighted to contribute to HOXA1-mediated protein-protein interactions is also involved. At a functional level, we provide evidence that HOXA1 displays an unexpectedly long half-life and demonstrate that PRDM14 can reduce the stability and affect the transcriptional activity of HOXA1. We examined territorial defense and behavioural interactions between two species of fish resident in Hamilton Harbour: non-indigenous round gobies (Neogobius melanostomus) and native log-perch (Percina caprodes). Trials consisted of placing one fish, "the resident" (either a round goby or a logperch), in a tank with a shelter for 24 hours before adding another fish, "the intruder" (either a round goby or a logperch), and recording aggressive incidents. Overall, gobies exhibited more aggressive behavior than logperch, and in general resident status had no effect on amount of aggression displayed. Also, gobies spent more time in shelters than logperch, and overall resident status did not affect the amount of time spent under shelter. We also compared abundance data for gobies and logperch using electrofishing transects in Hamilton Harbour that were conducted in 1995 and 2001 and found a dramatic increase in round goby numbers and a non-significant decrease in logperch numbers. Our data suggest that gobies are superior space competitors and hence the range expansion coupled with an increasing population size of the round gobies in Hamilton Harbour is likely to have deleterious consequences for logperch populations. Carp were excluded from Cootes Paradise Marsh (Lake Ontario) in 1997 in order to improve water clarity and promote submerged plant growth. On average, turbidity at open water and vegetated areas was reduced by 40 and 60 percent, respectively, following carp exclusion. However, responses by plants and other trophic levels have been both spatially and temporally variable due in part to annual variation in environmental conditions and fish-zooplankton interactions. In 1997, an unusually cool spring delayed the migration of spawning fish, including a usually abundant planktivore population, into the marsh. This had three main effects: 1) large Daphnia were released from predation in early summer and reached unprecedented numbers (530 Daphnia/L) in open water areas, 2) despite the lack of vegetated marsh habitat, larval fish production was high due to reduced predation and abundant zooplankton prey, and 3) zooplankton grazing initiated a spring clear-water phase which, together with carp exclusion, promoted submerged plant growth in shallow areas previously devoid of vegetation. These newly vegetated areas showed the greatest improvements in clarity and macrophyte growth in the first 2 years following exclusion. Currently, however, the future of the biomanipulation remains uncertain, due in part to natural climatic confounding factors, and further remedial actions will be required before this wetland represents a stable, clear-water, macrophyte dominated state.
