Using deuteron spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxometry, the reorientational dynamics of ethaline (choline chloride/ethylene glycol) and reline (choline chloride/urea) are studied in a component-selective, isotope-edited manner over a wide temperature range, thereby complementing previous work on glyceline (choline chloride/glycerol). Differences in the hydrogen bond propensities effectuate that in reline and glyceline, the choline ions move faster than the hydrogen bond donors, glycerol and urea; in ethaline, the ethylene glycol molecules are reorienting faster. For glyceline and reline, the increase in the corresponding time scale ratio indicates a pronounced strengthening of the glycerol and urea networks upon cooling, while in ethaline, the time scale ratio remains essentially constant. For the three deep eutectic solvents, a comparison of the present component-selective results with the dielectric time constants shows that the latter are primarily sensitive to the dynamics of the respective hydrogen bond donors. In a Walden-type plot, the reorientation rates, selectively determined for the hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, are compared with their conductivity and fluidity, revealing that the dynamics of the choline ions relate most directly to the charge transport. UNLABELLED: The industrial amino acid production workhorse, Corynebacterium glutamicum naturally produces low levels of 2,3,5,6-tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), a valuable flavor, fragrance, and commodity chemical. Here, we demonstrate TMP production (∼0.8 g L-1) in C. glutamicum type strain ATCC13032 via overexpression of acetolactate synthase and/or α-acetolactate decarboxylase from Lactococcus lactis in CGXII minimal medium supplemented with 40 g L-1 glucose. This engineered strain also demonstrated growth and TMP production when the minimal medium was supplemented with up to 40% (v v-1) hydrolysates derived from ionic liquid-pretreated sorghum biomass. A key objective was to take the fully engineered strain developed in this study and interrogate medium parameters that influence the production of TMP, a critical post-strain engineering optimization. Design of experiments in a high-throughput plate format identified glucose, urea, and their ratio as significant components affecting TMP production. These two components were further optimized using response surface methodology. In the optimized CGXII medium, the engineered strain could produce up to 3.56 g L-1 TMP (4-fold enhancement in titers and 2-fold enhancement in yield, mol mol-1) from 80 g L-1 glucose and 11.9 g L-1 urea in shake flask batch cultivation. The prediction of solubilities of compounds by means of molecular simulation has been receiving increasing attention due to the key role played by solubility in countless applications. We have predicted the aqueous solubility of urea at 300 K from chemical potential calculations for two urea model combinations: Özpinar/TIP3P and Hölzl/(TIP4P/2005). The methodology assumes that the intramolecular contribution of the urea molecule to the chemical potentials is identical in the crystal and in solution and, hence, cancels out. In parallel to the chemical potential calculations, we also performed direct coexistence simulations of a urea crystal slab in contact with urea-water solutions with the aim to identify upper and lower bounds to the solubility value using an independent route. The chemical potential approach yielded similar solubilities for both urea models, despite the actual chemical potential values showing a significant dependence on the force field. The predicted solubilities for the two models were 0.013–0.018 (Özpınar) and 0.008–0.012 (Hölzl) mole fraction, which are an order of magnitude lower than the experimental solubility that lies in a range of 0.125–0.216 mole fraction. The direct coexistence solubility bounds were relatively wide and did not encompass the chemical potential based solubilities, although the latter were close to the lower bound values. This article presents a study on the use of urinary guanidino compounds (GCs) and ureido compounds (UCs) as biomarkers for cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI). The study utilized a benzylic rearrangement reaction and high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) to analyze the concentrations of GCs/UCs in urine samples from patients with CSA-AKI at different stages. The findings suggest that certain GC/UC metabolites show significant changes in concentration during CSA-AKI and could potentially serve as biomarkers for different stages of AKI. Water scarcity, combined with low soil fertility, constitutes one of the main limiting factors in crop productivity in semi-arid regions. However, nutritional supplementation techniques with nitrogen (N) and molybdenum (Mo) can lead to positive enhancements in the production of these crops. The objective was to evaluate the effect of increasing doses of N in the presence and/or absence of Mo on the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the productive increase of forage sorghum subjected to water deficit in the semi-arid region. The experiment was conducted in the field using a randomized block design, with four replications, in a 5 × 2 × 3 factorial scheme, comprising five doses of N (urea): 0, 50, 100, 150, and 300 kg ha−1, two doses of Mo (sodium molybdate): 0 and 160 g ha−1, and three production cycles. The highest yields of green mass (GM) (47.98 Mg ha−1), dry mass (DM) (19.66 Mg ha−1), water use efficiency (WUE) (5.57 kg/m³), and N use efficiency (NUE) (0.26 kg2/g) occurred at the highest N dosage (300 kg ha−1 N). The highest contents and extraction of total N, Mo, chloride (Cl), and potassium (K) were found in regrowth 2 and at the highest N dose (300 kg ha−1). The interaction of N and Mo resulted in higher catalase (CAT) enzyme activity. The meteorological conditions during the cycles strongly influenced the nutrient contents and extraction. The results of the study provide support for producers to use N and Mo fertilization strategies to improve crop productivity, even under water deficit conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study presents the preparation of a long‐chain amine solution, employing the concept of urea‐formaldehyde synthesis. We also investigate the performance shifts in the cured product post‐urea addition. The Urea‐F curing agent is prepared by reacting EDA/DETA/TETA/TEPA, formaldehyde, and urea, and crosslinked with bisphenol A epoxy resin (E51). The crosslinking agent solves the problem of urea not being suitable for curing epoxy resin, and it improves the problem of low mechanical strength of traditional amine crosslinked epoxy resin cured materials. The cured product underwent evaluation through acid and alkali resistance solution measurement and mechanical and thermal tests. The results show enhanced heat resistance in the cured product, with its maximum thermal decomposition rate exceeding 350°C. The cured products have better mechanical properties than the amine monomers, with enhanced bending strength and superior acid–base solution resistance. Metal-organic framework (MOF) derived metal oxide nanostructures hold immense promise as electrodes for energy storage/conversion applications, notably in supercapacitors and urea oxidation. This study explores into optimizing such nanostructures, specifically focusing on a Zr/Ni ratio of 1:1, which has exhibited favorable electrochemical and catalytic performance. Employing thorough characterization methods, including PXRD analysis, we verified the successful synthesis of a ZrO 2 /NiO binary phase (i.e. Zr/Ni) nanostructure via the MOF-derived approach, showcasing its versatility as a catalyst across diverse energy conversion domains. The Zr/Ni nanostructure electrode displayed noteworthy characteristics, boasting a capacity of 432 C/g alongside exceptional cycling stability of 99%, reflecting battery-like electrochemical behavior. Furthermore, in an asymmetric device setup (Zr/Ni//AC), it achieved a notable potential of up to 1.4 V with an impressive power density of 1044.56 W/kg. Additionally, the Zr/Ni nanostructure demonstrated efficient electrocatalytic activity in urea oxidation, evidenced by a maximum current density of 60 mA/cm2. Reconstruction‐engineered electrocatalysts with enriched high active Ni species for urea oxidation reaction (UOR) have recently become promising candidates for energy conversion. However, to inhibit the over‐oxidation of urea brought by the high valence state of Ni, tremendous efforts are devoted to obtaining low‐value products of nitrogen gas to avoid toxic nitrite formation, undesirably causing inefficient utilization of the nitrogen cycle. Herein, we proposed a mediation engineering strategy to significantly boost high‐value nitrite formation to help close a loop for the employment of a nitrogen economy. Specifically, platinum‐loaded nickel phosphides (Pt‐Ni2P) catalysts exhibit a promising nitrite production rate (0.82 mol kWh−1 cm−2), high stability over 66 h of Zn‐urea‐air battery operation, and 135 h of co‐production of nitrite and hydrogen under 200 mA cm−2 in a zero‐gap membrane electrode assembly (MEA) system. The in situ spectroscopic characterizations and computational calculations demonstrated that the urea oxidation kinetics is facilitated by enriched dynamic Ni3+ active sites, thus augmenting the "cyanate" UOR pathway. Urine output and urinary urea-N excretion (UUN e) excretion are critical measures to accurately evaluate N metabolism in lactating dairy cows and environmental concerns related to manure N. The objectives of this study were: (1) to compare estimates of UUN e , urine output, and related variables from 3 pre-established measurement protocols (bladder catheterization, external collection cup, and spot sampling) and from dietary salt supplementation, (2) to study temporal variation in UUN e , urine output, and related variables as affected by measurement protocol, and (3) to evaluate urine specific gravity as a predictor of urine output. Twelve multiparous Holstein cows were used in a split-plot, Latin square design. Cows were randomly assigned to a diet (main plot) containing either 0.7% or 1.6% NaCl (DM basis) and then assigned to a sequence of 3 protocols (subplot) in a balanced 3 × 3 Latin square with 14-d period. For each protocol, measurements were conducted every 4 h for 3 consecutive days. Urine output was determined gravimetrically for bladder catheterization and external collection cup or based on measured cow BW, measured urinary creatinine concentration, and the assumed creatinine excretion of 29 mg/kg BW per day for spot sampling. Urine specific gravity was measured by refractometry. When averaged over a 3-d measurement period and compared with bladder catheterization, spot sampling underestimated urine output (6.8 kg/d; 20%) and UUN e (26 g/d; 13%) but exhibited greater concentration of urinary urea-N (+58 mg/dL; 10%). There were no differences in any measurements determined via bladder catheterization or external cup device protocols, except for urine output that tended to be 3.7 kg/d lower for collection cup compared with bladder catheterization. The 2 gravimetric protocols yielded lower urinary creatinine concentration than spot sampling (64.7 vs. 88.1 mg/dL) and lower creatinine excretion (25.3 mg/kg BW per day) than the value of 29 mg/kg BW per day generally assumed in the spot sampling protocol. Salt supplementation tended to increase urine output (+5.2 kg/d) and decrease urinary urea-N concentration (−93 mg/dL), urinary creatinine concentration (−9.5 mg/dL), milk protein concentration (−0.19 percentage unit) and milk protein yield (−70 g/d). There was greater temporal variation of urine output when measured via the collection cup compared with bladder catheterization in the first 2 d but not the third day of sampling, suggesting that an extended period of adaptation might have improved data quality of the collection cup protocol. The R2 of the linear regression to predict urine output with urine specific gravity was 67%, 73%, and 32% for bladder catheterization, collection cup, and spot sampling, respectively. In this study, spot sampling underestimated both urine output and UUN e , but UUN e determination did not differ between external collection cup and bladder catheterization. However, our data suggested the need to investigate the adaptation protocol, required days of measurements and the conversion of urine mass to urine volume to improve accuracy and precision of urine collection protocols. Background: The adulteration of milk is an important issue that needs to be addressed because of its deleterious effects on health. Detection of adulterants in milk can be done in laboratories or by purchasing adulteration detection kits. There are few home-based rapid tests to detect common milk adulterants, which are less known by our community. Objectives of this study were to estimate the proportion of milk adulteration and to identify common adulterants, to determine the association of milk adulteration with gastrointestinal and renal diseases; and also to validate rapid home-based tests by comparing its result with standard milk adulteration detection kit. Materials and Methods: A community-based study was conducted on 330 medical and paramedical staff. Collected milk samples during family visits were tested by standard milk adulteration detection tests and rapid home-based tests. Results: Among 330 tested milk samples, 233 samples were adulterated with one or more than one adulterant. The most common adulteration observed was the addition of water to milk, followed by detergent, urea, and neutralizer. The specificity of the rapid tests was found to be almost 100% in the detection of water and detergent in milk and accuracy was above 80%; with "substantial agreement" (kappa = 0.7) between rapid tests and standard tests on kappa statistics. Conclusion: The present study has identified a large extent of milk adulteration and common adulterants, which may have harmful effects on health. This study hypothesized that urea fertilization could optimize animal performance in an agroforestry system. This study evaluated how increasing rates of N fertilization (0, 100, 200, and 400 kg N ha−1 year−1) using urea (CH4N2O) affected forage mass, nutritive value, and beef cattle (Bos indicus) performance in an agroforestry system with Massai grass (Megathyrsus maximus Jacq. cv. Massai) and legume tree (Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth.), in the humid tropic region of Brazil, over 2‐year period. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with four treatments (N fertilizer rates) and three replications. Forage mass was positive and linearly affected by N fertilization (p =.0236, R2 = 0.92), ranging from 1297 to 1583 kg DM ha−1 under 0 and 400 kg N ha−1 year−1, respectively. There was greater average forage mass during the rainy period (1826 kg ha−1) (p <.05). Crude protein in green forage mass increased linearly (p =.0041, R2 = 0.91) in function of the N applied. Cattle average daily gain showed a positive quadratic response to the rates of N applied (p =.0298, R2 = 0.97), ranging from 0.46 kg to 0.68 kg animal day−1; and the gain per area increased linearly from 1.84 to 2.68 kg LW ha−1 day−1 (p =.0640, R2 = 0.96). The findings indicate that applying 200 kg N ha−1 year−1, split‐applied during the rainy season, would yield acceptable outcomes in terms of forage mass, nutritive value, and animal performance for this type of agroforestry system. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the impact of dapagliflozin on reducing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all-cause mortality in patients with COVID-19 and to assess whether it was associated with clinical improvement. Methods: Between March 2020 and July 2022, 446 diabetic patients hospitalized with COVID-19 were included in the study and were divided into two groups in terms of dapagliflozin use: 120 patients in the dapagliflozin group and 326 patients in the other oral antidiabetic (non-dapagliflozin) group. Results: Six (5%) deaths occurred in the dapagliflozin group and 58 (17.8%) in the non-dapagliflozin group (p=0.001). Lower rates of ICU admission were observed in the dapagliflozin group (8 (6.7%) vs. 67 (20.6%) patients) (p = 0.001). MACE occurred in 23 patients (19.2%) in the dapagliflozin group and 70 (21.5%) in the non-dapagliflozin group (p = 0.689). Higher age (p = 0.001) and higher urea (p = 0.019) were associated with increased risk of mortality. Dapagliflozin users had 3.937-fold lower risk of mortality (OR, 0.254; 95% CI, 0.093–0.697; p = 0.008). Multivariable logistic regression revealed that advanced age, active smoking, presence of peripheral artery disease, lower left ventricular ejection fraction, and glucose level were independently associated with MACE. Conclusion: We demonstrated that dapagliflozin treatment may be related with a reduced risk of mortality and lower ICU admission rates in diabetic patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Despite the limitations of the study, dapagliflozin could benefit COVID-19 patients with cardiometabolic risk factors, but further studies that control for our limitations are necessary. [Display omitted] The formation of adducts via urea interaction with distinct classes of surfactants (cationic, anionic, nonionic, and zwitterionic), leading to their assembly into lamellar structures and subsequent formation of hydrogels. The characteristics of these hydrogels are associated with both, the length of the alkyl chain, and the specific head group of the surfactant molecules. Characterization of adduct formation was conducted using Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS), while Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) was employed to probe the subsequent assembly into lamellar structures. The kinetics of hydrogel formation were assessed through rheological measurements and observed thermal transitions utilizing Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The investigation revealed a universal propensity for hydrogel formation across all surfactant classes. The formation arises from the interactions between urea molecules via hydrogen bonding, forming adducts around the surfactant chains. In sequence, the adducts self-assemble in lamellae. This process constructs the intricate three-dimensional network characteristic of the hydrogel. Furthermore, the kinetics of hydrogel formation, and their rheological properties under equilibrated conditions, were found to be significantly influenced by the nature of the polar head group of the surfactant molecules. This is the first evidence on the formation of adducts of urea with classes of surfactants. For producing a combination of urea with acetylated lignosulfonate in the pellet form, the urea release was studied under real conditions in the livestock rumen. Morphological, chemical, and mechanical features of slow-release urea combination with acetylated lignosulfonate and comparing it with lignosulfonate, acetylated lignosulfonate, and urea were studied. The produced pellets with weight percentages (10, 30, 50, and 65) showed the potential of acetylated lignosulfonate in water. For the study of the amount of nitrogen release, slow-release urea (a combination of 65 wt% of acetylated lignosulfonate with 35 wt% of urea) together with three other experimental ratio samples including control ration without urea, urea control supplement ration and Nitro-Za inside the livestock rumen were studied and measured during a period of 0.5 to 24 h. The changes range in Nitro-Za ammonia nitrogen concentration and the slow-release substance are aligned and similar. The slow-release substance belonging to the urea diet combined with acetylated lignosulfonate showed better performance from the fourth hour. The study results showed positive results regarding supplementing the feed ration with slow-release urea compared to urea and comparable to Nitro-Za. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Constructing low-cost, high-catalytic-performance anode electrocatalysts is a significant challenge for methanol oxidation (MOR) and urea oxidation (UOR) reactions. Using paper templates with abundant pores to prepare thin porous metal materials helps to obtain high-performance electrode materials. The nano amorphous B-doped Ni/crystalline Ni (nanoam Ni-B/Ni) foil composite electrodes were derived from paper templates prepared by impregnation, high-temperature reduction, and electrodeposition methods. Porous Ni foils (Nip) derived thinnest rice ("Xuan") paper, initially used for Chinese calligraphy and painting, exhibits the best performance due to its strong adsorption and wettability. Compared to direct current electrodeposition, pulse electrodeposition yields finer amorphous B-doped Ni nanoparticles with good catalytic performance. Under a current density of 100 mA·cm−2, the nanoam Ni-B/Ni composite electrode prepared under a duty cycle of 0.5–1.0 s achieved current densities of 290.4 mA·cm−2 (MOR) and 340.4 mA·cm−2 (UOR) at 0.8 V, which are improved by 37.1% and 55.1%, respectively, compared to those of Nip. After 2000 cycles, with solution replacement, the current densities maintained 99.2% (MOR) and 81.6% (UOR) of the original values, showing excellent electrocatalytic stability. This research provided a new use for Chinese rice paper, and the prepared Nip-based electrode, with a thickness of about 60 μm and a low area quality, had a simple preparation process and good electrochemical properties, and can be used as a potential substitute for commercial Ni foam for portable or small electrochemical devices. Ni‐based electrocatalysts are considered to be significantly promising candidates for electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction (UOR). However, their UOR activity and stability are severely enslaved by the inevitable Ni group self‐oxidation phenomenon. In this study, the glassy state NiFe LDH with uniform Cu dopant (Cu‐NiFe LDH) by a simple sol–gel strategy is successfully synthesized. When served as the UOR catalyst, Cu‐NiFe LDH required a 123 mV lower potential for UOR at both 10 and 100 mA cm−2 in comparison with the conventional anodic OER. It can also operate steadily for more than 300 h at 10 mA cm−2. The in‐depth investigation reveals that Cu incorporation can optimize the local electronic structure of Ni species to induce high‐valent Ni sites. The high‐valent Ni sites would act as the active center during the proposed energetically favorable UOR route, which directly reacts on the high‐valent Ni sites without self‐oxidation inducing the formation of NiOOH species, resulting in a boosted electrocatalytic UOR activity and stability. Urea electrosynthesis from co‐electrolysis of CO2 and NO3− (UECN) offers an innovative route for converting waste CO2/NO3− into valuable urea. Herein, Zn single atoms anchored on oxygen vacancy (OV)‐rich In2O3‐x (Zn1/In2O3‐x) are developed as a highly active and selective UECN catalyst, delivering the highest urea yield rate of 41.6 mmol h−1 g−1 and urea‐Faradaic efficiency of 55.8% at −0.7 V in flow cell, superior to most previously reported UECN catalysts. In situ spectroscopic measurements and theoretical calculations unveil the synergy of In/Zn1 sites and OVs in promoting the UECN process via a tandem catalysis mechanism, where Zn1‐OV site activates NO3− to form *NH2 while In‐OV site activates CO2 to form *CO. The formed *CO spontaneously migrates from the In‐OV site to the nearby Zn1‐OV site and then couples with *NH2 to generate *CONH2 which is ultimately converted into urea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urea electrosynthesis from co‐electrolysis of NO3− and CO2 (UENC) under ambient conditions is recognized as an appealing approach for effective and sustainable urea production, while it requires high‐efficiency UENC electrocatalysts to promote the C─N coupling and hydrogenation processes. Herein, single‐atom Cu anchored on MoS2 (Cu1‐MoS2) is explored as a highly active and selective UENC catalyst. Theoretical calculations and operando spectroscopic characterizations unveil the synergistic tandem catalysis of Cu1‐MoS2 for the UENC, where Cu single atoms trigger the early C─N coupling, while MoS2‐edges promote the key hydrogenation step of *CO2NH2 to *COOHNH2 for urea generation. Strikingly, Cu1‐MoS2 equipped in a flow cell achieves the excellent UENC performance with a maximum urea‐Faradaic efficiency of 57.02% at −0.6 V and the corresponding urea yield rate of 23.3 mmol h−1 g−1, surpassing nearly all previously reported UENC catalysts. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are a class of layered solids applied in many application fields. The study of synthetic methods able to control the interlayer composition and morphology of LDH is an open issue. The urea method, which exploits the thermal decomposition of urea, is known for yielding highly crystalline LDH in the carbonate form. This form is highly stable and, to replace carbonate ions with more easily exchangeable anions, a second step is required. In this work, we modified the urea method to obtain MgAl and ZnAl LDH in the chloride or nitrate form through a one-step synthesis. The effects of the urea/(Al + M(II)) molar ratio (R), reaction time and metal salt concentrations were deeply investigated. We found that LDH in chloride and nitrate forms can be prepared from solutions of metal salts not exceeding 1 M by adjusting R and maintaining the reaction time at 48 hours. The morphology of these products was found to depend on the R value and on the metal salts used in the synthesis. A high R value and nitrate salts favoured the formation of sand-rose crystals, while chloride salts induced the formation of plate-like crystals. [Display omitted] Urea electrolysis is an appealing topic for hydrogen production due to its ability to extract hydrogen at a lower potential. However, it is plagued by sluggish kinetics and noble-metal catalyst requirements. Herein, we developed nickel-iron-layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) nanolayers with abundant oxygen vacancies (O V) via synergistically etching nickel foam with Fe3+ and Cl- ions, enabling the efficient conversion of urea into H 2 and N 2. The synthesized O V -NiFe-LDH exhibits a lower potential (1.30 vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) for achieving 10 mA cm−2 in the urea oxidation reaction (UOR), surpassing most recently reported Ni-based electrodes. O V provides favorable conductivity and a large surface area, which results in a 4.1-fold in electron transport and a 5.1-fold increase in catalyst reactive sites. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations indicate that O V can lower the adsorption energy of urea, and enhance the bonding strength of *CONHNH, giving rise to improved UOR. A dual cooperative multi‐urea catalyst for Henry reaction was developed in which four urea groups were introduced into a rigid and rotatable framework. The tetraurea catalyst 1 showed higher activity for Henry reaction than its analogues, close‐bisurea 2 or distal‐bisurea 3 with two urea units, demonstrating additional cooperativity between the two substrate‐pinching catalytic sites of tetraurea 1. Addition of the reaction product to the reaction system resulted in a small amount of further activation. This work would provide a basis for new cooperative molecular catalysts, leading to a high degree of regulation based on allosteric cooperativity, e.g. with a distinct ON/OFF threshold for reactivity, or feedback activation by using the product as a reaction template. Urea electrosynthesis from co‐electrolysis of NO3− and CO2 (UENC) provides an alternative route for realizing efficient and sustainable urea production. In this work, single‐atom Ru dispersed on Co (Ru1Co) is demonstrated as an effective and robust catalyst for the UENC. In situ spectroscopic measurements and theoretical simulations unravel the cooperative effect of Ru1 and Co sites to promote the UENC process via a tandem catalysis mechanism, where the Ru1 site activates the adsorption and hydrogenation of NO3− to form *NH2, while the Co site activates the adsorption and hydrogenation/deoxygenation of CO2 to form *CO. The generated *CO is then transferred from the Co site to the nearby Ru1 site which promotes the C─N coupling of *NH2 and *CO toward the urea formation. Strikingly, Ru1Co assembled in a flow cell shows the highest urea‐Faradaic efficiency of 50.1% with the corresponding urea yield rate of 22.34 mmol h−1 g−1 at −0.5 V (RHE), superior to most reported UENC catalysts for urea production. Among multivalent redox flow batteries, the Zn‐based redox flow battery (RFB) has the advantages of high energy density, nontoxicity, and low cost. However, the severe dendrite issue hinders its deployment. Therefore, the Sn‐based RFB is reported as a prospective alternative, particularly in alkaline systems, due to its lower redox potential and four electrons transfer in redox reactions. However, the continuous growth of Sn during charge forms large Sn bulk, which increases the risk of “dead Sn” formation. By combining experiments and theoretical calculations, urea is proposed as an electrolyte additive to regulate Sn deposition on graphite felt. This is achieved through the enhanced adsorption and robust reaction of Sn(OH)62− with graphite felt. Consequently, a more uniform morphology ensues, reducing “dead Sn” formation and thus improving the average discharge voltage and areal capacity. Moreover, the Columbic efficiency becomes more stable, extending the cycle life to over 420 h (>200 cycles) without deep discharge during cycling. This study demonstrates the role of urea in achieving high‐performance Sn‐I flow battery with long cycle life, paving the way for further development of metal‐based hybrid RFBs. Urea electrosynthesis from carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrate (NO3−) is an alternative approach to traditional energy‐intensive urea synthesis technology. Herein, we report a CuAu single‐atom alloy (SAA) with electronic metal support interaction (EMSI), achieving a high urea yield rate of 813.6 μg h−1 mgcat−1 at −0.94 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (vs. RHE) and a Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 45.2 % at −0.74 V vs. RHE. In situ experiments and theoretical calculations demonstrated that single‐atom Cu sites modulate the adsorption behavior of intermediate species. Bimetallic sites synergistically accelerate C−N bond formation through spontaneous coupling of *CO and *NO to form *ONCO as key intermediates. More importantly, electronic metal support interaction between CuAu SAA and CeO2 carrier further modulates electron structure and interfacial microenvironment, endowing electrocatalysts with superior activity and durability. As one of the major limiting environment factors in aquaculture, ammonia nitrogen brings severe threat to the growth and survival of aquatic animals, especially mollusk in benthic zones. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the toxic response and tolerance of mollusks to ammonia nitrogen remain unclear. In this study, transcriptome, metabolome and physiological indicators were combined to investigate the metabolic mechanism of adult razor clam (Sinonvacula constricta), which was exposed to -46mg/L ammonia nitrogen for 1 day (A1) and 10 days (A10). It was observed that compared with A1, the contents of free amino acids, including taurine (Tau), alanine (Ala) and arginine (Arg), the activities of immune-related enzymes acid phosphatase (ACP) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP), and antioxidation-related enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in hepatopancreas, were significantly increased in A10, while the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the contents of glucose and pyruvate in hepatopancreas, foot and hemolymph urea nitrogen (HUN) were significantly changed (P < 0.05). Meantime, the comparative transcriptome analysis between A1 and A10 groups revealed the effects of ammonia stress on immune defense, antioxidant system and metabolic pathway. Likewise, metabolomic analysis showed that ammonia exposure interfered with amino acid metabolism, lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, with metabolism related-genes changed according to RNA-seq analysis. By comparing the metabolites and transcripts profiles of A10 and A1, the expression of some genes involved in detoxification and ammonia excretion was significantly changed. Combined with the changes in metabolites, we speculated that the convert endogenous ammonia to alanine, alanine-glucose cycle and urea synthesis might be adaptive strategies of the razor clam after ammonia stress. Collectively, the combination of physiological, transcriptome and metabolome will greatly contribute to the progressively understand the toxicity of ammonia exposure and the defense mechanism of razor clam against ammonia toxicity, and provide new sights on the potential molecular mechanisms of ammonia adaptive strategies in benthic mollusk. We present the development and validation of an impedance-based urine osmometer for accurate and portable measurement of urine osmolality. The urine osmolality of a urine sample can be estimated by determining the concentrations of the conductive solutes and urea, which make up approximately 94% of the urine composition. Our method utilizes impedance measurements to determine the conductive solutes and urea after hydrolysis with urease enzyme. We built an impedance model using sodium chloride (NaCl) and urea at various known concentrations. In this work, we validated the accuracy of the impedance-based urine osmometer by developing a proof-of-concept first prototype and an integrated urine dipstick second prototype, where both prototypes exhibit an average accuracy of 95.5 ± 2.4% and 89.9 ± 9.1%, respectively in comparison to a clinical freezing point osmometer in the hospital laboratory. While the integrated dipstick design exhibited a slightly lower accuracy than the first prototype, it eliminated the need for pre-mixing or manual pipetting. Impedance calibration curves for conductive and non-conductive solutes consistently yielded results for NaCl but underscored challenges in achieving uniform urease enzyme coating on the dipstick. We also investigated the impact of storing urine at room temperature for 24 hours, demonstrating negligible differences in osmolality values. Overall, our impedance-based urine osmometer presents a promising tool for point-of-care urine osmolality measurements, addressing the demand for a portable, accurate, and user-friendly device with potential applications in clinical and home settings. Directly coupling N2 and CO2 to synthesize urea by photocatalysis paves a sustainable route for urea synthesis, but its performance is limited by the competition of photogenerated electrons between N2 and CO2, as well as the underutilized photogenerated holes. Herein, we report an efficient urea synthesis process involving photogenerated electrons and holes in respectively converting CO2 and N2 over a redox heterojunction consisting of WO3 and Ni single‐atom‐decorated CdS (Ni1‐CdS/WO3). For the photocatalytic urea synthesis from N2 and CO2 in pure water, Ni1‐CdS/WO3 attained a urea yield rate of 78 μM h−1 and an apparent quantum yield of 0.15 % at 385 nm, which ranked among the best photocatalytic urea synthesis performance reported. Mechanistic studies reveal that the N2 was converted into NO species by ⋅OH radicals generated from photogenerated holes over the WO3 component, meanwhile, the CO2 was transformed into *CO species over the Ni site by photogenerated electrons. The generated NO and *CO species were further coupled to form *OCNO intermediate, then gradually transformed into urea. In this study, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) coated with various phases of nanostructured nickel selenides were successfully synthesized with a simple and effective technique. These nanocomposites were then used as highly effective electrocatalysts for the urea oxidation reaction (UOR). The strategy involved depositing CNTs onto stainless steel (SS) foam using chemical vapor deposition, followed by pulse-reversal electrodeposition of nickel selenides in a layer-by-layer fabrication process. Different phases of nanostructured nickel selenides, such as NiSe 2 , NiSe 2 /Ni 0.85 Se, and Ni 0.85 Se, were successfully deposited on the surface of CNTs by controlling the reversal potential. Among all the different nanocomposites, the Ni 0.85 Se@CNTs-SS electrode exhibited the best electrocatalytic activity towards UOR. It required only a low overpotential, about 158 mV, to reach a benchmarking current density of 10 mA cm−2, and showed a low Tafel slope value of 85 mV dec−1. Additionally, the results of the prolonged stability study for 24 h confirmed the remarkable electrochemical stability of the Ni 0.85 Se@CNTs-SS electrode. After conducting stability studies, the overpotential shifted from 158 mV to 107 mV. This shift is due to the activation of the electrocatalyst during the stability test. The excellent electrocatalytic activity observed after the stability test is attributed to the presence of hydroxide and oxyhydroxide phases, which are remarkably active phases. A novel and sensitive fluorescence ratiometric method is developed for urea detection based on the pH-sensitive response of two fluorescent carbon dot (CD) systems: R-CDs/methyl red (MR) and NIR-CDs/Cu2+. The sensing mechanism involves breaking down urea using the enzyme urease, releasing ammonia and increasing pH. At higher pH, the fluorescence of NIR-CDs is quenched due to the enhanced interaction with Cu2+, while the fluorescence of R-CDs is restored as the acidic MR converts to its basic form, removing the inner filter effect. The ratiometric signal (F608/F750) of the R-CDs/MR and NIR-CDs/Cu2+ intensities changed in response to the pH induced by urea hydrolysis, enabling selective and sensitive urea detection. Detailed spectroscopic and morphological investigations confirmed the fluorescence probe design and elucidated the sensing mechanism. The method exhibited excellent sensitivity (0.00028 mM LOD) and linearity range (0.001 – 8.0 mM) for urea detection, with successful application in milk samples for monitoring adulteration, demonstrating negligible interference and high recovery levels (96.5% to 101.0%). Degumming is a critical process in the purification of natural fibers, essential for enhancing their quality and usability across various applications. Traditional degumming methods employed for natural fibers encounter inherent limitations, encompassing prolonged procedures, excessive energy consumption, adverse environmental impact, and subpar efficiency. To address these challenges, a groundbreaking wave of degumming technique has emerged, transcending these constraints and heralding a new era of efficiency, sustainability, and eco-friendly techniques. This study represents the Firmiana simplex bark (FSB) fiber's delignification by using deep eutectic solvents (DESs). The study explores the application of deep eutectic solvents, by synthesizing different types of DES using a hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and four representative hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) for FSB fiber degumming. This study investigates the morphologies, chemical compositions, crystallinities, and physical properties of Firmiana simplex bark fibers before and after the treatment. Furthermore, the effects and mechanisms of different DESs on dispersing FSB fibers were examined. The experimental results showed that choline chloride-urea (CU)-based DES initiates the degumming process by effectively disrupting the hydrogen bond interaction within FSB fibers, primarily by outcompeting chloride ions. Following this initial step, the DES acts by deprotonating phenolic hydroxyl groups and cleaving β-O-4 bonds present in diverse lignin units, thereby facilitating the efficient removal of lignin from the fibers. This innovative approach resulted in significantly higher degumming efficiency and ecofriendly as compared to traditional methods. Additionally, the results revealed that CU-based DES exhibits the utmost effectiveness in degumming FSB fibers. The optimal degumming conditions involve a precise processing temperature of 160 °C and a carefully controlled reaction time of 2 h yielding the most favorable outcomes. The present study presents a novel straightforward and environmentally friendly degumming method for Firmiana simplex bark, offering a substantial potential for enhancing the overall quality and usability of the resulting fibers. Simple Summary: Exercise is well known to decrease the risk of breast cancer. The cellular processes that contribute to exercise-induced cancer prevention are less known. We conducted an exercise training study in rats given a chemical to induce breast cancer. Exercise increased the length of time to development of breast cancer in rats. However, when we gave the rats an antibody which binds to a certain cellular protein (oncostatin M), exercise-induced protection against breast cancer was not observed. These observations may be useful in future studies as the oncostatin M protein is produced by muscles. Thus, these results support a link between muscle use during exercise and breast cancer prevention. Future studies may examine oncostatin M and other proteins produced by exercising muscles for their potential role in breast cancer prevention. Moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity decreases the risk of breast cancer. The muscle-derived cytokine (myokine), oncostatin M (OSM), has been shown to decrease breast cancer cell proliferation. We hypothesized that OSM is involved in physical activity-induced breast cancer prevention, and that OSM antibody (Anti-OSM) administration would mitigate the effect of physical activity in a rat model of mammary carcinoma. Female Sprague Dawley rats were injected with 50 mg/kg N-methyl-N-nitrosourea to induce mammary carcinogenesis. During the 20-week study, rats were exercise trained (EX) or remained sedentary (SED). Additional groups were treated with Anti-OSM antibody (SED + Anti-OSM and EX + Anti-OSM) to explore the impact of OSM blockade on tumor latency. Exercise training consisted of treadmill acclimation and progressive increases in session duration, speed, and grade, until reaching 30 min/day, 20 m/min at 15% incline. Experimentally naïve, age-matched, female rats also completed an acute exercise test (AET) with time course blood draws to evaluate OSM plasma concentrations. Relative tumor-free survival time was significantly longer in EX animals (1.36 ± 0.39) compared to SED animals (1.00 ± 0.17; p = 0.009), SED + Anti-OSM animals (0.90 ± 0.23; p = 0.019), and EX + Anti-OSM animals (0.93 ± 0.74; p = 0.004). There were no significant differences in relative tumor latency between SED, SED + Anti-OSM, or EX + Anti-OSM animals. Following the AET, OSM plasma levels trended higher compared to baseline OSM levels (p = 0.080). In conclusion, we observed that exercise-induced delay of mammary tumor development was mitigated through Anti-OSM administration. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that affects more than 10.5% of the world's adult population. Biochemical and hematological parameters, such as albumin (ALB) and red cell distribution width (RDW), have been shown to be altered in diabetic patients. This study aimed to correlate hematological and biochemical parameters with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). A total of 777 adults (372 women and 405 men, aged 19–85 years) were divided into three groups: 218 participants with HbA1c < 5.7% (group A: non-diabetic), 226 with HbA1c ≥ 5.7% and <6.5% (group B: prediabetic) and 333 with HbA1c ≥ 6.5% (group C: diabetic). Biochemical and hematological parameters were compared among the three groups. An analysis of variance was performed to determine the correlations of the parameters among the groups. The ALB and sodium (Na) levels were significantly lower in group C than in groups A (ALB: 3.8 g/dL vs. 4.1 g/dL, p < 0.0001, Na: 138.4 mmol/L vs. 139.3 mmol/L, p < 0.001) and B (ALB: 3.8 g/dL vs. 4.0 g/dL, p < 0.0001, Na: 138.4 mmol/L vs. 139.6 mmol/L, p < 0.0001), whereas the RDW-standard deviation (RDW-SD) and urea were increased in group C as compared to group A (RDW: 45.8 vs. 43.9 fL, p < 0.0001, urea: 55.6 mg/dL vs. 38.5 mg/dL, p < 0.0001). The mean platelet volume (MPV) was increased in group C as compared to group A (9.3 fL vs. 9.1 fL, p < 0.05, respectively). Τhe increase in RDW-SD in group A as compared to B and C demonstrates the impact of hyperglycemia on red blood cells. Albumin and RDW might improve risk assessment for the development of diabetes. Zirconium ions incorporated into the secondary structure of the Keggin type heteropoly tungstate by titration method by varying the zirconium content. The FT-IR, Laser Raman, and XRD analysis of the synthesized catalysts revealed that the incorporation of the zirconium does not affect the primary structure of the Keggin ion. The quantitative acid measurement of the catalysts was done by TPD-NH3 technique. The type of acid site was identified by adsorbing pyridine on the catalyst and qualitative analysis was carried out by DRIFTS. The activity of the catalysts was tested for the glycerol carbonylation using urea as a CO source. The catalyst with moderate content of Zr4+ ions in the secondary structure presented high activity. Catalysts acidity and activity depend on the intact primary Keggin heteropoly tungstate together with the counter ions type and its size in the secondary structure and catalyst calcination temperature. The objective was to investigate the effects of increasing levels of extruded urea (EU) in the supplementation of lambs grazing. Crossbred Texel lambs (n = 45) were used and kept in continuous grazing in paddocks with Brachiaria spp. The design used was completely randomised, with five of EU replacing soybean meal (0; 6; 12; 18 and 24 g/kg) and two sexes (male and female). The animals were slaughtered, and qualitative and quantitative evaluations of the carcass, non-carcass components, meat quality and chemical composition were carried out. There was an interaction between level*sex for ether extract (EE) and crude protein (CP), so than the meat of the females from the treatment without EU had a higher content of EE than that used EU and the meat of the males from the treatments with 12 g and 24 g 100 kg−1 LW higher levels of CP than other treatments. For all measurements performed up to 18 g 100 kg−1 LW of EU replacing bran and soy, the results were promising, and can be fed to finishing lambs under grazing, without negatively influencing most of the carcass characteristics, components non-carcass, meat quality and chemical composition. Summary: Ethyl carbamate (EC) concentration is an important indicator of the safety of rice wine. In this study, the effects of replacing traditional starters with synthetic starters on the quality of rice wine were studied to provide a basis for the application of laboratory strains to explore the metabolic basis of EC formation in rice wine fermentation systems. The effects of synthetic starters on the physicochemical indices, free amino acids, flavour compounds, urea and EC of rice wine were studied. The results showed that the microorganism species and inoculation fermentation method strongly influenced the physicochemical and flavour properties of the rice wine, among which continuous co‐fermentation improved the mellowness and flavour of the rice wine. The concentrations of urea and EC in rice wine fermented with synthetic starters decreased significantly compared with those in the control group, in which the urea content decreased by up to 97.4% and the EC content decreased by up to 90.9%. In addition, the flavour compound data showed that the differences in the aromas of rice wine fermented with different starters were mainly due to the differences in the contents of alcohols and esters. Cation-disordered rocksalt (DRX) oxides show promise as lithium-ion battery cathodes due to their high theoretical capacity derived from anionic redox. However, the challenges of poor anionic redox reversibility, causing oxygen loss and voltage hysteresis, lead to rapid capacity decay. This study employs a dual-functional urea treatment on Li1.2Ti0.4Mn0.4O2 DRX cathodes, generating oxygen vacancies in the subsurface and a protective carbon nitride layer on the surface through interface reactions. Characterization via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms these alterations. The presence of oxygen vacancies reduces the average Mn valence, increasing the capacity contributed by Mn and enhancing the reversibility of anionic oxygen redox, thus curbing oxygen loss. Additionally, the carbon nitride layer curtails the parasitic reaction between active oxygen species and the electrolyte. Urea-treated Li1.2Ti0.4Mn0.4O2 exhibits enhanced electrochemical performance, retaining a higher capacity (151 mAh⋅g−1, 80.3% of capacity retention) after 50 cycles compared to neat Li1.2Ti0.4Mn0.4O2 (117 mAh⋅g−1, 64.6% retention). Furthermore, the treatment improves lithium-ion diffusion and rate capability. Unfavorable genetic correlations between milk production, fertility, and urea traits have been reported. However, knowledge of the genomic regions associated with these unfavorable correlations is limited. Here, we used the correlation scan method to identify and investigate the regions driving or antagonizing the genetic correlations between production vs. fertility, urea vs. fertility, and urea vs. production traits. Driving regions produce an estimate of correlation that is in the same direction as the global correlation. Antagonizing regions produce an estimate in the opposite direction of the global estimates. Our dataset comprised 6567, 4700, and 12,658 Holstein cattle with records of production traits (milk yield, fat yield, and protein yield), fertility (calving interval) and urea traits (milk urea nitrogen and blood urea nitrogen predicted using milk‐mid‐infrared spectroscopy), respectively. Several regions across the genome drive the correlations between production, fertility, and urea traits. Antagonizing regions were confined to certain parts of the genome and the genes within these regions were mostly involved in preventing metabolic dysregulation, liver reprogramming, metabolism remodeling, and lipid homeostasis. The driving regions were enriched for QTL related to puberty, milk, and health‐related traits. Antagonizing regions were mostly related to muscle development, metabolic body weight, and milk traits. In conclusion, we have identified genomic regions of potential importance for dairy cattle breeding. Future studies could investigate the antagonizing regions as potential genomic regions to break the unfavorable correlations and improve milk production as well as fertility and urea traits. The sluggish kinetics of anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is regarded as the main bottleneck for ineffective hydrogen production efficiency, limiting the industrial application of electrochemical water splitting. Substituting the OER by urea electrooxidation reaction (UOR) and simultaneously developing highly active and economical bifunctional electrocatalyst for UOR and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a promising method to realize energy-saving hydrogen production and urea-rich wastewater abatement. Herein, self-supporting Ni-NiO film grown on Ti mesh (Ni-NiO/TM) was successfully prepared by a facile cathodic electrodeposition method with using nickel acetate as the only raw material. Electrodeposition process was optimized by modulating the electrodeposition time and potential. x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman characterization revealed the optimized Ni-NiO/TM was comprised of crystalline Ni and amorphous NiO and its morphology exhibited nanosphere structure, assembled by nanosheets. Ni-NiO/TM sample prepared under the potential of −1.5 V and deposition time of 10 min illustrated the lowest UOR potential of 1.34 V at 50 mA cm−2 and robust stability, superior to the recently reported literatures. Furthermore, the HER potential was only −0.235 V to drive the current density of 50 mA cm−2. The cell voltage of urea-assisted electrolysis for hydrogen production in Ni-NiO/TM||Ni-NiO/TM two-electrode system only required 1.56 V to deliver 50 mA cm−2, obviously lower than that (>1.72 V) for overall water splitting. A high dispersed 2D NiFeP/CoP heterogeneous catalyst was designed and constructed by in situ transformation from nanorod CoO for catalyzing oxygen evolution reaction, urea oxidation reaction, and hydrogen evolution reaction. [Display omitted] The electrocatalytic production of "green hydrogen", such as through the electrolysis of water or urea has been vigorously advocated to alleviate the energy crisis. However, their electrode reactions including oxygen evolution reaction (OER), urea oxidation reaction (UOR), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) all suffer from sluggish kinetics, which urgently need catalysts to accelerate the processes. Herein, we design and prepare an OER/UOR/HER trifunctional catalyst by transforming the homemade CoO nanorod into a two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin heterojunction nickel–iron-cobalt hybrid phosphides nanosheet (NiFeP/CoP) via a hydrothermal-phosphorization method. Consequently, a strong electronic interaction was found among the Ni 2 P/FeP 4 /CoP heterogeneous interfaces, which regulates the electronic structure. Besides the high mass transfer property of 2D nanosheet, Ni 2 P/FeP 4 /CoP displays improved OER/UOR/HER performance. At 10 mA cm−2, the OER overpotential reaches 274 mV in 1.0 M KOH, and the potential of UOR is only 1.389 V in 1.0 M KOH and 0.33 M urea. More strikingly, the two-electrode systems for electrolysis water and urea-assisted electrolysis water assembled by NiFeP/CoP could maintain long-term stability for 35 h and 12 h, respectively. Alloys with bimetallic electron modulation effect are promising catalysts for the electrooxidation of urea. However, the side reaction oxygen evolution reaction (OER) originating from the competitive adsorption of OH− and urea severely limited the urea oxidation reaction (UOR) activity on the alloy catalysts. This work successfully constructs the defect-rich NiCo alloy with lattice strain (PMo-NiCo/NF) by rapid pyrolysis and co-doping. By taking advantage of the compressive strain, the d-band center of NiCo is shifted downward, inhibiting OH− from adsorbing on the NiCo site and avoiding the detrimental OER. Meanwhile, the oxygenophilic P/Mo tailored specific adsorption sites to adsorb OH− preferentially, which further released the NiCo sites to ensure the enriched adsorption of urea, thus improving the UOR efficiency. As a result, PMo-NiCo/NF only requires 1.27 V and −57 mV to drive a current density of ±10 mA cm−2 for UOR and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), respectively. All vertebrates possess a daily rhythm, encompassing a comprehensive set of physiological, cognitive, and behavioral patterns that manifest throughout a 24-hour period. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of crude protein (CP) levels in the diet on the daily rhythm of urea in serum (US) and saliva in alpacas and sheep. Ten alpacas and ten sheep, adult, clinically healthy males, were used; they were maintained in natural light conditions and fed ad libitum with two levels of CP (16 and 7%). Blood and saliva samples were taken every 4 h for 48 h. A two-way ANOVA was conducted to analyze the parameters, including adjusted mean rhythm (MESOR), amplitude, and acrophase. It was found that both US and saliva urea exhibited circadian rhythms with a peak during the midday (10:59 − 12:16 h). The MESOR with low CP diets was higher (P < 0.05) in alpacas. The MESOR of urea levels in saliva was greater (P < 0.05) at the highest level of CP in the diet, with no differences between alpacas and sheep (P > 0.05). The amplitude was greater (P < 0.05) in alpacas and at the high level of CP compared to the low level of CP in the diet. Our findings reveal that both serum and saliva urea levels in alpacas and sheep follow a daily rhythm and the MESOR of US was higher in alpacas when they consume food with low CP content, and this difference disappears when CP levels are increased in the diet. Organic cotton precursor yarn was impregnated in an aqueous solution consisting of diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP), boric acid (BA), and urea (U) mixtures before the thermal stabilization stage and then subjected to heat treatments in an air environment at 245 °C. The effect of chemical pretreatment on organic cotton yarn was examined using methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The XRD analysis revealed a gradual decrease in the crystalline structure, attributed to the disruption of intermolecular hydrogen bonds. DSC and TGA measurements showed an improved thermal stability due to the formation of pre-graphitic structures with aromatic entities at higher temperatures. For samples chemically impregnated and then stabilized, the char yield values increased from 25% to 68% at 500 °C and 23% to 53% at 1000 °C. Analysis of IR spectra indicated a gradual reduction in both intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bonds associated with dehydration and dehydrogenation reactions. The IR spectra also confirmed a decrease in crystallinity with increasing oxidation time, which is consistent with the findings from X-ray diffraction. In addition, the IR spectra showed the presence of C = C bonds, indicating the formation of a crosslinked ladder-like structure. The results showed that DAP-BA-U integration increased the thermal stability of organic cotton fibers and the obtained samples were ready for the next stage, carbonization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wood, a fundamental material in construction, confronts durability and weathering challenges, notably UV-induced degradation leading to colour changes. This study investigated a novel treatment using citric acid and urea to enhance the UV stability of wood. The reaction between these compounds generates water-soluble fluorescent species and insoluble particles upon thermal treatment which may provide wood with UV protection. Specimens were treated with two different treatment methods and then exposed to 2016 h of accelerated weathering, during which colour was measured regularly. Citric acid and urea were either pressure impregnated into the wood and thermally reacted in situ during heat treatment or pre-reacted in the absence of wood with subsequent implementation into melamine formaldehyde (MF) and water-based surface coatings. The results showed that water-soluble fluorophore compounds were formed with both treatment methods. Accelerated weathering tests revealed significant colour changes over time, where specimens coated with a mixture of MF and fluorescent particles from the reaction between citric acid and urea, exhibiting the least alteration. The lowest colour change ΔE of 5.9 was observed for specimens coated with a MF-based coating containing 1 wt% of citric acid and urea thermally pre-reacted at a temperature of 180 °C, showcasing potential wood protection applications. The flow and mass transport through different membrane types from different hemodialyzers are investigated in a co-current direction to emphasize the effect of solute diffusion through the dialyzer membranes. The numerical model consists of the blood flowing in a hollow fiber surrounded by a dialysate flow, where the mass transport and fluid flow were simultaneously calculated. The high flux dialyzers considered in the present study are FINEFLUX FIX-210S eco, ELISIO-210HR, and PEPA FDY-21B, which differ mainly in characteristics of the membrane structure and surface. Urea and maltodextrin solutions are used as model solutes to consider the effect of molecular size difference. The numerically predicted outlet concentrations closely align with experimental values, where the variation between predicted and measured values remain below 10% across all dialyzer types for urea solutions, and specifically below 8% for maltodextrin solution. Among the various dialyzers tested, FINEFLUX membrane could provide the highest maltodextrin clearance (83.09 ml/min) and overall mass transfer area coefficient (KoA) (119.56 ml/min) potentially due to its fast-diffusion characteristic. In this co-current flow study, the results suggest that urea transport is primarily influenced by flow control with minimal impact from boundary layers, while maltodextrin transport is predominantly governed by diffusion control.Article Highlights: The mass transport simulation of different hemodialysis membranes (in co-current flow) closely aligns with the experimental results. Urea is the most used fertilizer because of its significance on world food security but it is also the toughest fertilizer to manage. It is readily available to the plant and it is vulnerable to loss in various ways, causing environmental pollution and huge economic losses. Urea application requires a sound knowledge for its effective management, which will increase its availability to plants and reduce possible losses. Ammonia (NH3) and oxides of nitrogen (N) pollute the environment, and nitrate ( NO 3 - ) leaching alters the aquatic ecosystem, which lowers the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of applied urea. Nitrate-contaminated drinking water causes human and animal health risks, whereas the emission of nitrous oxide (N2O) in the atmosphere is significant to ozone layer depletion and climate change. This review discusses the processes in the soil after urea application in the soil–plant system, which includes the loss mechanisms, and the significant factors affecting the N availability and losses. This review also shows that the judicial management of urea in soil–plant systems and maintaining the best management practices and technologies ensure sustainable agricultural development and decrease the risk of environmental contamination. Finally, the review summarizes the potential mechanisms of the applied urea in the soil with their mineralization and loss pathways and delivers the scientific reference to achieve sustainable crop production and reduce the risk of N losses. Synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, such as urea, are instrumental in augmenting agricultural output and addressing the demands of a growing population. Nevertheless, conventional urea production heavily relies on energy‐intensive processes. In this study, an environmentally friendly photocatalytic method is proposed for directly and selectively synthesizing urea from nitrogen (N2) and methanol (CH3OH using a Pt cluster‐decorated TiO2 catalyst (Pt cluster/TiO2). Remarkably, the Pt cluster/TiO2 exhibits outstanding urea synthesis performance with a rate of 105.68 µmol g−1 h−1 and N‐selectivity of 97.29 ± 0.79%, representing the highest level of photocatalytic urea synthesis from N2. Further analysis with density functional theory (DFT) calculation reveals that the "σ–π*" donor–acceptor interaction occurred between Pt clusters and N2, efficiently reducing the N2 hydrogenation barrier. EPR experiments demonstrate that photogenerated electrons (e−) and hole (h+) are synchronously consumed through N2 reduction and CH3OH oxidation, thereby accelerating urea synthesis. The crucial step of C─N coupling is initiated by the reaction between *NH─NH and *CHO intermediate, facilitated by the low energy barrier on Pt cluster/TiO2. This work suggests an mild route of urea production and provides profound insights into the underlying chemistry of the C─N coupling reaction, which can guide the sustainable synthesis of essential indispensable chemicals. Electrocatalytic C‐N coupling reaction is regarded as a promising strategy for achieving clean and sustainable urea production by coreducing CO2 and nitrogen species, thus contributing to carbon neutrality and the artificial nitrogen cycle. However, restricted by the sluggish adsorption of reactants, competitive side reactions, and multistep reaction pathways, the electrochemical urea production suffers from a low urea yield rate and low selectivity so far. In order to comprehensively improve urea synthesis performance, it is crucial to develop highly efficient catalysts for electrochemical C‐N coupling. In this article, the catalyst‐designing strategies, C‐N coupling mechanisms, and fundamental research methods are reviewed. For the coreduction of CO2 and different nitrogen species, several prevailing reaction mechanisms are discussed. With the aim of establishing the standard research system, the fundamentals of electrocatalytic urea synthesis research are introduced. The most important catalyst‐designing strategies for boosting the electrocatalytic urea production are discussed, including heteroatom doping, vacancy engineering, crystal facet regulation, atom‐scale modulation, alloying and heterostructure construction. Finally, the challenges and perspectives are proposed for future industrial applications of electrochemical urea production by C‐N coupling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
