Abstract: International audience; In the local approach to linear parameter varying (LPV) system identification, it is widely acknowledged that locally estimated linear state-space models should be made coherent before being interpolated, but the accurate meaning of the term " coherent " or " coherence " is rarely defined. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relevance of two existing definitions and to point out the consequence of this analysis on the practice of LPV system identification.

Abstract: The aim of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to determine the change in gait biomechanics after total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis for end-stage osteoarthritis. Methods Electronic databases were searched up until May 2019. Peer-reviewed journal studies including adult participants suffering from end-stage ankle osteoarthritis and reporting pre- and post-operative kinematics, kinetics and spatio-temporal effects of total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis during walking were included with a minimum of 12months follow-up. Seventeen suitable studies were identified and assessed according to methodological and biomechanical qualities. Meta-analysis was performed by calculating the effect size using standard mean differences between pre- and post-operative gait status. Findings Seventeen studies with a total of 883 patients were included. Meta-analysis revealed moderate evidence of an improvement in lower limb kinematics, kinetics and spatio-temporal parameters after total ankle replacement. Moderate evidence indicated an increase in ankle moment, hip range of motion and walking speed after ankle arthrodesis. Interpretation The currently available evidence base of research papers evaluating changes in gait biomechanics after total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis is limited by a lack of prospective research, low sample sizes and heterogeneity in the patho-etiology of ankle osteoarthritis. Following total ankle replacement, improvements were demonstrated for spatio-temporal, kinematic and kinetic gait patterns compared to the pre-operative measures. Improvements in gait mechanics after ankle arthrodesis were limited to walking speed and ankle moment. Increased hip range of motion after ankle arthrodesis could represent a sign of compensation for the lack of ankle motion.

Abstract: International audience; Adaptive observers are recursive algorithms for joint estimation of both state variables and unknown parameters. Usually some persistent excitation (PE) condition is required for the convergence of adaptive observers. However, in practice, it may happen that the PE condition is not satisfied, because the available sensor signals do not contain sufficient information for the considered recursive estimation problem, which is ill-posed. To remedy the lack of PE condition, inspired by typical methods for solving ill-posed inverse problems, this paper proposes a regularized adaptive observer for general linear time varying (LTV) systems. Two regularization terms are introduced in both state and parameter estimation recursions, in order to preserve the state-parameter decoupling transformation involved in the design of the adaptive observer. Like in typical ill-posed inverse problems, regularization implies an estimation bias, which can be reduced by using prior knowledge about the unknown parameters.

Abstract: The latest technological improvements in low-cost infrared cameras have brought new opportunities for long-term infrastructures monitoring. The accurate measurement of surfaces' temperatures is facing the lack of knowledge of radiatives properties of the scene. By using multi-sensors instrumentation, the measurement model can be refined to get a better estimate of the temperature. To overcome a lack of sensors instrumentation, it is shown that online and free available climatic data can be used. Then, Bayesian methods to estimate simultaneously the emissivity and temperature have been developed and compared to literature's methods. A radiative exchange simulator of 3D scenes have been developed to compare those different methods on numerical data. This software uses the hardware acceleration as well as a GPGPU approach to reduce the computation time. As a consequence, obtained numerical results emphasized an advanced use of multi-spectral infrared thermography for the monitoring of structures. This simultaneous estimation enables to have an estimate of the temperature by infrared thermography with a known uncertainty.; L'utilisation de caméras infrarouges bas coûts pour la surveillance long-terme d'infrastructures est prometteuse grâce aux dernières avancées technologiques du domaine. Une mesure précise de la température des surfaces observées in-situ se heurte au manque de connaissance des propriétés radiatives de la scène. L'utilisation d'une instrumentation multi-capteurs permet d'affiner le modèle de mesure afin d'obtenir une estimation plus précise de la température. A contrario, il est montré qu'il est toujours possible d'exploiter des données climatiques en ligne pour pallier un manque de capteur. Des méthodes bayésiennes d'estimation conjointe d'émissivité et de température sont ensuite développées et comparées aux méthodes de la littérature. Un simulateur d'échanges radiatifs diffus de scènes 3D a été implémenté afin de tester ces différentes méthodes. Ce logiciel utilise l'accélération matérielle de la machine pour réduire les temps de calcul. Les résultats numériques obtenus mettent en perspective une utilisation avancée de la thermographie infrarouge multi-spectrale pour la surveillance de structures. Cette estimation conjointe permet alors d'obtenir un estimé de la température par thermographie infrarouge avec une incertitude connue.

Abstract: International audience; The impact of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) density differentials on thermal streaks and their temporal evolution were examined by means of infrared thermography under laboratory conditions. A series of experimental tests was performed using specimens containing three asphalt blocks, one of which had an arbitrarily lower density and was positioned between the other two blocks with higher densities. The specimens were uniformly heated to a temperature similar to that found in real on-site situations during HMA laydown and left to cool at ambient temperature, simulating a thermal streak caused by density differentials. Surface cooling at ambient temperature was recorded using a thermographic camera. Results demonstrated that HMA density variations of 6.5% or higher produce surface temperature differentials of 4°C or more after 3 min of cooling, and can be straightforwardly detected by infrared thermography. Thermal modeling confirmed the experimental trends and constitutes a valuable tool for future investigation under different conditions.

Abstract: SYSID 2018, 18th IFAC Symposium on System Identification , Stockholm, SUEDE, 09-/07/2018 - 11/07/2018; International audience; The local approach to linear parameter varying (LPV) system identification consists in interpolating a collection of linear time invariant (LTI) models, which have been estimated from data acquired at different working points of a nonlinear system. Interpolation is essential in this approach. When the local LTI models are in state-space form, as each local model can be estimated with an arbitrary state basis, it is widely acknowledged that the local models should be made coherent before their interpolation. In order to avoid the delicate task of making local state-space models coherent, a new interpolation method of local state-space models is proposed in this paper, which does not require coherent local models. This method is based on the reduction of the large state-space model built by combining the local models. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract: International audience; In order to make accurate reflectometry measurements on electric cables for fault diagnosis, connector de-embedding is a procedure for compensating measurement distortions caused by unmatched connectors. The key step in such a procedure is the characterization of the connectors, which is realized through measurements on a pair of connectors linked by a short cable segment. The analysis for deducing the characteristics of a single connector from measurements made on an assembled pair is known as the bisection problem. In this paper, after recalling the underdetermined nature of the bisection problem, a practically effective de-embedding procedure is proposed based on a particular regularization technique. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of this procedure.

Abstract: Soft tissue artefact (STA), i.e. the motion of the skin, fat and muscles gliding on the underlying bone, may lead to a marker position error reaching up to 8.7cm for the particular case of the scapula. Multibody kinematics optimisation (MKO) is one of the most efficient approaches used to reduce STA. It consists in minimising the distance between the positions of experimental markers on a subject skin and the simulated positions of the same markers embedded on a kinematic model. However, the efficiency of MKO directly relies on the chosen kinematic model. This paper proposes an overview of the different upper limb models available in the literature and a discussion about their applicability to MKO. The advantages of each joint model with respect to its biofidelity to functional anatomy are detailed both for the shoulder and the forearm areas. Models capabilities of personalisation and of adaptation to pathological cases are also discussed. Concerning model efficiency in terms of STA reduction in MKO algorithms, a lack of quantitative assessment in the literature is noted. In priority, future studies should concern the evaluation and quantification of STA reduction depending on upper limb joint constraints.

Abstract: Soft tissue artefacts (STA) introduce errors in joint kinematics when using cutaneous markers, especially on the scapula. Both segmental optimisation and multibody kinematics optimisation (MKO) algorithms have been developed to improve kinematics estimates. MKO based on a chain model with joint constraints avoids apparent joint dislocation but is sensitive to the biofidelity of chosen joint constraints. Since no recommendation exists for the scapula, our objective was to determine the best models to accurately estimate its kinematics. One participant was equipped with skin markers and with an intracortical pin screwed in the scapula. Segmental optimisation and MKO for 24-chain models (including four variations of the scapulothoracic joint) were compared against the pin-derived kinematics using root mean square error (RMSE) on Cardan angles. Segmental optimisation led to an accurate scapula kinematics (1.1° ≤ RMSE ≤ 3.3°) even for high arm elevation angles. When MKO was applied, no clinically significant difference was found between the different scapulothoracic models (0.9° ≤ RMSE ≤ 4.1°) except when a free scapulothoracic joint was modelled (1.9° ≤ RMSE ≤ 9.6°). To conclude, using MKO as a STA correction method was not more accurate than segmental optimisation for estimating scapula kinematics.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents the feasibility of damage detection in asphalt pavements by embedded fiber optics as a new non-destructive inspection technique. The distributed fiber optic sensing technology based on the Rayleigh scattering was used in this study. The main advantage of this technique is that it allows to measure strains over a long length of fiber optic with a high spatial resolution, less than 1 cm. By comparing strain profiles measured at different times, an attempt was made to link strain changes with the appearance of damage (cracking) in the pavement. This non-destructive method was evaluated on accelerated pavement testing facility, in a bituminous pavement. In our experimentation, the optical fibers were placed near the bottom of the asphalt layer. The application of 728 000 heavy vehicle loads (65 kN dual wheel loads) was simulated in the experiment. Optical fiber measurements were made at regular intervals and surface cracking of the pavement was surveyed. After some traffic, a significant increase of strains was detected by the optical fibers at different points in the pavement structure, before any damage was visible. Later, cracking developed in the zones where the strain profiles were modified, X. Chapeleau et al. thus indicating a clear relationship between the increased strains and crack initiation. These first tests demonstrate that distributed fiber optic sensors based on Rayleigh scattering can be used to detect crack initiation and propagation in pavements, by monitoring strain profiles in the bituminous layers.

Abstract: International audience; Thermal performances of building walls are significant for energy conservation. However, very few non-destructive evaluation methods exist to quantitatively diagnose the building walls in situ due to the walls’ large thickness. Moreover, most of the existing methods are inconvenient to implement in situ and take a long characterization time. This paper studies transient heat transfer to estimate the wall's thermal properties based on the thermal quadrupoles modelling. Semi-infinite boundary condition is assumed at the rear face of the wall. With this assumption, only the front face response of the wall is considered. The evaluation time is then effectively reduced within a few hours, and the diagnosis in situ is simplified without the measurement on the rear face of the wall. Experiments are carried out on two traditional multi-layered building wall cases using heating lamps. With the measured surface temperatures and heat fluxes, the unit-pulse response and unit-step response at the front surface of the investigated wall are reconstructed through a deconvolution approach and a TSVD (Truncated Singular Value Decomposition) inversion. The unit-step response curve is directly characterized by the thermal resistance, thermal effusivity and heat capacity of the wall, thus allowing us to estimate the wall properties. The characterization time for the two cases is less than 10 hours.

Abstract: The latest technological improvements in low-cost infrared cameras have brought new opportunities for long-term infrastructures monitoring. The accurate measurement of surfaces' temperatures is facing the lack of knowledge of radiatives properties of the scene. By using multi-sensors instrumentation, the measurement model can be refined to get a better estimate of the temperature. To overcome a lack of sensors instrumentation, it is shown that online and free available climatic data can be used. Then, Bayesian methods to estimate simultaneously the emissivity and temperature have been developed and compared to literature's methods. A radiative exchange simulator of 3D scenes have been developed to compare those different methods on numerical data. This software uses the hardware acceleration as well as a GPGPU approach to reduce the computation time. As a consequence, obtained numerical results emphasized an advanced use of multi-spectral infrared thermography for the monitoring of structures. This simultaneous estimation enables to have an estimate of the temperature by infrared thermography with a known uncertainty., L'utilisation de caméras infrarouges bas coûts pour la surveillance long-terme d'infrastructures est prometteuse grâce aux dernières avancées technologiques du domaine. Une mesure précise de la température des surfaces observées in-situ se heurte au manque de connaissance des propriétés radiatives de la scène. L'utilisation d'une instrumentation multi-capteurs permet d'affiner le modèle de mesure afin d'obtenir une estimation plus précise de la température. A contrario, il est montré qu'il est toujours possible d'exploiter des données climatiques en ligne pour pallier un manque de capteur. Des méthodes bayésiennes d'estimation conjointe d'émissivité et de température sont ensuite développées et comparées aux méthodes de la littérature. Un simulateur d'échanges radiatifs diffus de scènes 3D a été implémenté afin de tester ces différentes méthodes. Ce logiciel utilise l'accélération matérielle de la machine pour réduire les temps de calcul. Les résultats numériques obtenus mettent en perspective une utilisation avancée de la thermographie infrarouge multi-spectrale pour la surveillance de structures. Cette estimation conjointe permet alors d'obtenir un estimé de la température par thermographie infrarouge avec une incertitude connue.

Abstract: Background: Many studies have demonstrated adverse effects of exposure to aircraft noise on health. Possible biological pathways for these effects include hormonal disturbances. Few studies deal with aircraft noise effects on saliva cortisol in adults, and results are inconsistent. Objective: We aimed to assess the effects of aircraft noise exposure on saliva cortisol levels and its variation in people living near airports. Methods: This study focused on the 1300 residents included in the HYENA and DEBATS cross-sectional studies, with complete information on cortisol sampling. All the participants followed a similar procedure aiming to collect both a morning and an evening saliva cortisol samples. Socioeconomic and lifestyle information were obtained during a face-to-face interview. Outdoor aircraft noise exposure was estimated for each participant's home address. Associations between aircraft noise exposure and cortisol outcomes were investigated a priori for male and female separately, using linear regression models adjusted for relevant confounders. Different approaches were used to characterize cortisol levels, such as morning and evening cortisol concentrations and the absolute and relative variations between morning and evening levels. Results: Statistically significant increases of evening cortisol levels were shown in women with a 10-dB(A) increase in aircraft noise exposure in terms of LAeq, 16h (exp(?) = 1.08; CI95% = 1.00-1.16), Lden (exp(?) = 1.09; CI95% = 1.01-1.18), Lnight (exp(?) = 1.11; CI95% = 1.02-1.20). A statistically significant association was also found in women between a 10-dB(A) increase in terms of Lnight and the absolute variation per hour (exp(?) = 0.90; CI95% = 0.80-1.00). Statistically significant decreases in relative variation per hour were also evidenced in women, with stronger effects with the Lnight (exp(?) = 0.89; CI95% = 0.83-0.96) than with other noise indicators. The morning cortisol levels were unchanged whatever noise exposure indicator considered. There was no statistically significant association between aircraft noise exposure and cortisol outcomes in men. Conclusions: The results of the present study show statistically significant associations between aircraft noise exposure and evening cortisol levels and related flattening in the (absolute and relative) variations per hour in women. Further biological research is needed to deepen knowledge of the pathway between noise exposure and disturbed hormonal regulation, and specially the difference in effects between genders.

The full electric vehicle range and prize are highly determined by the battery performances. During its lifespan, the battery performances are degraded because of ageing mechanisms. Typically, there are two types of ageing: calendar and cycling ageing. In the electric vehicle application, both types of ageing coexist and interact. In this paper, we report the results of accelerated ageing tests and present a methodology to separate calendar from cycling ageing. With this analysis method, we demonstrate the interaction between calendar and cycling ageing when battery is cycled following representative current profiles of the electric vehicle application.

Abstract: International audience; This paper considers the problem of set-membership estimation for discrete-time linear time-varying descriptor systems subject to unknown but bounded disturbance and noise. We propose a set-membership estimation method based on a descriptor system observer and a zonotopic estimator of the observer error bounds. The observer parameters are optimized in order to minimize the sizes of the zonotopes enclosing all admissible state trajectories. Finally, two simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract: International audience; The characterization of damages from output-only vibration measurements is an important issue for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), in particular for bridges under ambient excitation. In the last years, a multitude of methods has been proposed for vibration-based damage detection, lo-calization and quantification. In this work, a benchmark application for such methods is proposed, namely a 1/200 scale model of the Saint-Nazaire Bridge, which is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Loire River near the river's mouth. The region of interest, the central metallic structure, measures 720 meters. The aim of the instrumentation is to assess the capability of damage assessment methods to assess a cable failure. The model is instrumented with ten accelerometers and excited by white noise. A damage localization method is applied to test the proposed setup, namely the statistical damage locating vector approach (S-SDDLV). With this method, vibration measurements from the (healthy) reference and damaged states of the structure are confronted to a finite element of the reference state. Damage indicators are provided for the different structural elements that are easy to compute, without updating the model parameters, and taking into account the intrinsic uncertainty of noisy measurements.

Abstract: International audience; We present an adaptive observer for linear time-varying systems whose state matrix depends on unknown parameters. We first assume that the state matrix is affine in these parameters. In this case, the proposed observer generates state and parameter estimates, which exponentially converge to the plant state and the true parameter, respectively, provided a persistence of excitation condition holds and the unknown parameters lie in a neighborhood of some known nominal values. Hence, some prior knowledge on the unknown parameters is required, but not on the state. We then modify the adaptive observer and its convergence analysis to systems whose state matrix is smooth, instead of being affine, in the unknown parameters. The convergence is approximate, and no longer exponential, in this case. An example is provided to illustrate the results, for which the required distance between the unknown parameters and their nominal values is investigated numerically.

Abstract: International audience; Standard filtering techniques for structural parameter estimation assume that the input force is either known or can be replicated using a known white Gaussian model. Unfortunately for structures subjected to seismic excitation, the input time history is unknown and also no previously known representative model is available. This invalidates the aforementioned idealization. To identify seismic induced damage in such structures using filtering techniques, force must therefore also be estimated. In this paper, the input force is considered to be an additional state that is estimated in parallel to the structural parameters. Two concurrent filters are employed for parameters and force respectively. For the parameters, an interacting Particle-Kalman filter is used to target systems with correlated noise. Alongside this, a second filter is used to estimate the seismic force acting on the structure. In the proposed algorithm, the parameters and the inputs are estimated as being conditional on each other, thus ensuring stability in the estimation. The proposed algorithm is numerically validated on a sixteen degrees-of-freedom mass-spring-damper system and a five-story building structure. The stability of the proposed filter is also tested by subjecting it to a sufficiently long measurement time history. The estimation results confirm the applicability of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract: This paper proposes a robust guaranteed state estimation method with application to fault detection by combining H∞ observer design with zonotopic analysis for discrete-time systems with both time-variant and time-invariant uncertainties. In order to improve the estimation accuracy, based on the H∞ technique, the observer design is achieved by solving a linear matrix inequality. The main contribution of this method lies in that the time invariance of some uncertainties is considered to reduce the conservatism of interval estimation. Abstract: SAFEPROCESS 2018, 10th IFAC Symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety for Technical Processes, Varsovie, POLOGNE, 29-/08/2018 - 31/08/2018; International audience; Existing filtering based structural health monitoring (SHM) algorithms assume constant noise environment which does not always conform to the reality as noise is hardly stationary. Thus to ensure optimal solution even with non-stationary noise processes, the assumed statistical noise models have to be updated periodically. This work incorporates a modification in the existing Interacting Particle-Kalman Filter (IPKF) to enhance its detection capability in presence of non-stationary noise processes. To achieve noise adaptability, the proposed algorithm recursively estimates and updates the current noise statistics using the post-IPKF residual uncertainty in prediction as a measurement which in turn enhances the optimality in the solution as well. Further, this algorithm also attempts to mitigate the ill effects of abrupt change in noise statistics which most often deteriorates/ diverges the estimation. For this, the Kalman filters (KF) within the IPKF have been replaced with a maximum Correntropy criterion (MCC) based KF that, unlike regular KF, takes moments beyond second order into consideration. A Gaussian kernel for MCC criterion is employed to define a correntropy index that controls the update in state and noise estimates in each recursive steps. Numerical experiments on an eight degrees-of-freedom system establish the potential of this algorithm in real field applications.

Abstract: International audience; Damage detection systems (DDS) provide information of the structural system integrity in contrast to e.g. local information by inspections or non-destructive testing techniques. In this paper, an approach is developed and demonstrated to utilize DDS information to update the structural system reliability and to integrate this information in structural system risk and utility analyses. For this aim, a novel performance modelling of DDS building upon their system characteristics and non-destructive testing reliability is introduced. The DDS performance modelling accounts for a measurement system in combination with a damage detection algorithm attached to a structural system in the reference and damage states and is modelled with the probability of indication accounting for type I and II errors. In this way, the basis for DDS performance comparison and assessment is provided accounting for the dependencies between the damage states in a structure. For updating of the structural system reliability, an approach is developed based on Bayesian updating facilitating the use of DDS information on structural system level and thus for a structural system risk analysis. The structural system risk analysis encompasses the static, dynamic, deterioration, reliability and consequence models, which provide the basis for the system model for calculating the direct risks due to component failure and the indirect risks due to system failure. Two case studies with the developed approach demonstrate a high Value of DDS Information due to risk and expected cost reduction.

Abstract: International audience; State estimation in the presence of unknown disturbances is useful for the design of robust systems in different engineering fields. Most results available on this topic are restricted to linear time invariant (LTI) systems, whereas linear time varying (LTV) systems have been studied to a lesser extent. Existing results on LTV systems are mainly based on the minimization of the state estimation error covariance, ignoring the important issue of the stability of the state estimation error dynamics, which has been a main focus of the studies in the LTI case. The purpose of this paper is to propose a numerically efficient algorithm for state estimation with disturbance rejection, in the general framework of LTV stochastic systems, including linear parameter varying (LPV) systems, with easily checkable conditions guaranteeing the stability of the algorithm. The design method is conceptually simple: disturbance is first rejected from the state equation by appropriate output injection, then the Kalman filter is applied to the resulting state-space model after the output injection.

Abstract: EUROEPI 2018, European Congress of Epidemiology , Lyon, FRANCE, 04-/07/2018 - 06/07/2018; Background : Many studies have evidenced adverse effects of exposure to aircraft noise on health, such as annoyance, sleep disturbance, cardiovascular diseases or altered cognitive performance. Mental health has been less investigated. In France, about 18% of the population suffer from mental disorders. The effects of noise annoyance on psychological distress have rarely been evaluated, and no study exists in France. We investigated associations between annoyance due to aircraft noise and psychological distress for people living near airports in France. Methods : The DEBATS longitudinal study included 1,244 residents around three French airports: Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, Toulouse-Blagnac, and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry. Information about psychological distress was assessed by a face-to-face questionnaire, including a single question about the feeling of depression, and the 12-version of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Annoyance due to aircraft noise was assessed with the following question 'Thinking about the last 12 months, when you are at home, how much does aircraft noise annoy you?' The five-point verbal scale proposed by the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Noise was used: extremely, very, moderately, slightly or not at all. Associations with psychological distress were investigated using logistic regressions including relevant confounders such as gender, age, country of birth, occupational activity, marital status, alcohol consumption, smoking, sleep duration, number of stressful life events, education, income, and antidepressant use. Results : About 13% of the participants reported depression and 22% were considered to have psychological distress according to the GHQ-12. Significant associations were found between annoyance due to aircraft noise and the feeling of depression, and between annoyance due to aircraft noise and psychological distress evaluated with the GHQ-12. The Odds Ratio (OR) for the feeling of depression ranged from 0.89 (95% CI 0.50-1.59) to 2.61 (95% CI 1.09-6.23). The OR for the GHQ-12 ranged from 1.49 (95% CI 0.94-2.39) to 3.64 (95% CI 1.70-7.78). For the both outcomes, OR reached the maximum estimate for people reporting to be extremely annoyed compared to those who are not at all annoyed. Discussion : The present study found significant associations between annoyance due to aircraft noise and psychological distress assessed both with a single question about the feeling of depression and with the GHQ-12, with gradual ORs according to the different categories of noise annoyance. This result is in line with the findings of a cross-sectional study performed in Minneapolis. However the direction of the association can be questioned. Extremely annoyed people might be more at risk to have psychological disorders, and it is also possible that people with psychological disorders might be more at risk to be annoyed.

Abstract: 15th International Symposium on 3-D Analysis of Human Movement, Manchester, ROYAUME-UNI, 03-/07/2018 - 06/07/2018; Personalized values of Body Segment Inertia Parameters (BSIP) are necessary to perform dynamic analysis of human movement (e.g. trajectory of the whole body centre of mass trajectory for stability analysis, joint torques / muscular forces estimations, etc.). BSIPs are usually estimated using regressions derived from anthropometric tables (AT) [1]. However, these tables are usually not adapted to atypical populations (children, elderly, obese persons, individuals with prostheses, etc.) that are classically of interest. An alternative consists in estimating BSIPs from segments' volumes assuming a uniform density. This alternative is of growing interest as: 1) it would be suitable even for populations with atypical body mass repartition; 2) 3D body shapes acquisition has recently became easier and cheaper thanks to the developments of low-cost 3D scanners [2]. However, there are still some issues to makes this measurement (3D point cloud of the external shape) usable in the context of movement analysis with minimal intervention. The main issue is the segmentation of the whole body external shape into body segments with relevant local coordinate systems (LCS) and anatomical landmarks (AL) [3].

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, two Non Destructive Testing approaches by active infrared thermography mounted on a 6-axis robot are presented and studied. Data acquisition and thermal excitation is carried out dynamically over various CFRP specimens with increasing geometry complexity, from planar, to convex and concave shapes. An automated procedure is proposed to reconstruct thermal image sequences issued from the two scanning procedure studied: Line Scan and Flying Line procedures. Defective area detection is performed by image processing and an inverse technique based on thermal quadrupole method is used to map the depth of flaws. Results obtained are discussed and perspectives are addressed.

Abstract: International audience; In this study, we evaluate the energy to bring to a solar hybrid road system to prevent it from icing at the surface. To estimate the thermal performances, a multi-physics finite element model is introduced to compute the temperature field from environmental conditions. From this model, the adjoint state method is used to solve an optimization problem taking into account a penalization of frozen periods and the energy brought to the system. Results obtained for different climatic conditions in France are presented, analyzed and discussed.

38. Solar hybrid road: from concept to modeling and lab scale mock-up experiments

Abstract: TRA 2018, 7th Transport Research Arena, Vienne, AUSTRALIE, 16-/04/2018 - 19/04/2018; We present in this paper the concept of solar hybrid road and the numerical model studied and develop to compute its thermal state at any time step. The aim of these new structures is to collect part of the solar radiation during the summer period, to prevent from icing at the surface during the winter period. As it is reversible, it will help also to prevent from a too high structure temperature (in particular closed to the surface) in summer season. Two types of modifications, compared to traditional structures are presented. The first one concerns the insertion of a porous layer allowing a heat fluid to exchange thermal energy. The second one concerns the use of a semi-transparent material at pavement surface allowing the solar radiation to penetrate deeper in the structure. The numerical model of this multi-physics problem develop with the finite element method is presented and discussed. A validation on two test cases is proposed. First results on energy harvesting evaluation for few locations (i.e. climatic conditions) in France are presented and discussed. Finally, conclusion and perspectives are proposed.

Les technologies d’accumulateurs ont connu, ces dernières années, de nombreuses innovations avec l’apparition de nouvelles familles de produits. Si les technologies à base de nickel cadmium et de nickel métal hydrure sont maîtrisées depuis de nombreuses années, les batteries a` base de lithium sont plus récentes et évoluent très régulièrement entraînant une augmentation de leurs performances et l’apparition de nouvelles variantes chimiques. Il est donc nécessaire de posséder unevision claire des enjeux et des contraintes des divers domaines applicatifs, ainsi que des performances des technologies en présence. Chaque famille d’accumulateurs présente des spécificités au niveau des caractéristiques en puissance ou en énergie. De plus, les conditions d’usage diffèrent d’une technologie à l’autre. Choisir une technologie d’accumulateur pour une application donnée mobilise donc des connaissances et des informations multiples. Cet article rappelle les notions de base sur les accumulateurs (définitions, constitution, principe, caractérisation, modélisation, vieillissement) et précise le contexte en proposant une cartographie des applications portables et nomades. Abstract: International audience; In a costs reduction and comfort requirements context, the use of phase change materials (PCM) is a sustainable and economical answer. For transportation infrastructures and winter maintenance, they avoid ice occurrence or snow accumulation. Their characteristics, and more specifically, the solid to liquid phase transition temperature and enthalpy, are usually obtained through DSC. Raman spectroscopy can bring answers and information on their microstructures. The liquid to solid phase change was investigated on three PCM, a paraffin, formic acid and diluted formic acid. A comparison made on freezing temperature obtained through DSC, Raman spectroscopy associated with chemiometrics indicated a consistency between the methods. Raman spectroscopy coupled with multivariate data analysis allowed the identification of an additional specificity in the freezing process of the paraffin. All methods provided results consistent between each other, although some differences between literature and experimental freezing temperatures of the considered PCM were observed in all cases.

Abstract: QIRT 2018, 14th Quantitative InfraRed Thermography Conference, Berlin, ALLEMAGNE, 25-/06/2018 - 29/06/2018; To optimize de-icers use in winter on roads and airports, some sustainable solutions were promoted in a global project entitled "Roads of the Future". PCM into pavements were then considered to rely on the released enthalpy to delay the occurrence of black ice or snow accumulation. Coupling a spectroscopic monitoring of the PCM behavior and thermography on pavement surface indicated a significant delay between the phase change and the thermal manifestation of the released energy. Considering an accurate description of PCM according to cooling weather phenomena, these elements might provide valuable information for numerical models.

Abstract: Resume Introduction Les plasties anterolaterales (PAL) sont utilisees pour diminuer le risque de rupture iterative apres reconstruction du ligament croise anterieur (LCA) chez les patients a risque. Ces plasties ajoutent un geste a la greffe isolee du LCA qui peut augmenter le temps operatoire et perturber les suites operatoires. L’objectif de cette etude etait d’evaluer le taux de complications precoces. L’hypothese etait que les plasties anterolaterales associees a une plastie du LCA n’augmentent pas le taux de complications par rapport aux plasties isolees. Materiel et methodes Il s’agit d’une etude multicentrique, prospective portant sur 392 patients dont 70 % d’hommes, âges en moyenne de 29,9 ans, operes d’une plastie du LCA avec PAL associee. L’ensemble des evenements indesirables ont ete releves. Resultats La duree moyenne d’hospitalisation a ete de 2 jours avec 46 % de chirurgie ambulatoire. La marche etait acquise en 27 jours en moyenne avec un avantage pour les patients operes avec une technique aux ischio-jambiers. Le taux de complication postoperatoire precoce etait de 12 % dont 1,7 % specifiques a la PAL : douleur, hematome, raideur en flexion et extension, infection. Cinq pour cent de re-interventions ont ete observees la premiere annee avec une majorite d’arthrolyse pour flexum. Le taux de rupture iterative etait de 2,8 % a l’issue de la premiere annee. Discussion Les complications des PAL associees aux plasties intra-articulaires ne sont pas plus importantes que pour les plasties intra-articulaires isolees, sans augmentation du taux d’infection ni de raideur. Les complications liees a la PAL sont faibles, 1,7 %, et sont a mettre en rapport avec des erreurs techniques de fixation ayant engendre des conflits avec les parties molles laterales. Abstract: Vibration-based damage localization has become an important issue for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Particularly, the Stochastic Dynamic Damage Locating Vector (SDDLV) method is an output-only damage localization method based on both a Finite Element (FE) model of the structure and modal parameters estimated from output-only measurements in the reference and damaged states of the system, interrogating changes in the transfer matrix. Firstly, the SDDLV method has been extended with a joint statistical approach for multiple mode sets, overcoming the theoretical limitation on the number of modes in previous works. Another problem is that the performance of the method can change considerably depending on the Laplace variable where the transfer function is evaluated. Particular attention is given to this choice and how to optimize it. Secondly, the Influence Line Damage Location (ILDL) approach which is complementary to the SDDLV approach has been extended with a statistical framework. Thirdly, a sensitivity approach for small damages has been developed based on the transfer matrix difference, allowing damage localization through statistical tests in a Gaussian framework, and in addition the quantification of the damage in a second step. Finally, the proposed methods are validated on numerical simulations and their performances are tested extensively in numerous case studies on lab experiments.; La localisation de dégâts basée sur les mesures de vibrations est devenue un axe de recherche important pour la surveillance de la santé structurale (SHM). En particulier, la Stochastic Dynamic Damage Locating Vector (SDDLV) est une méthode de localisation des dégâts basée sur le couplage entre un modèle aux éléments finis (FE) de la structure et des paramètres modaux estimés à partir des mesures dynamiques en excitation ambiante dans les états structuraux sain et endommagé, interrogeant les changements dans la matrice de transfert. Dans la première contribution, la méthode SDDLV est étendue avec une approche statistique conjointe utilisant plusieurs ensembles de modes, surmontant la limitation théorique sur le nombre minimal de paramètres. Un autre problème traité est la performance de la méthode en fonction du choix de la variable de Laplace où la fonction de transfert est évaluée. Une attention particulière est accordée à ce choix et à son optimisation. Dans la deuxième contribution, l'approche Influence Line Damage Location (ILDL), complémentaire à l’approche SDDLV est étendue avec un cadre statistique. Dans la dernière contribution, une approche de sensibilité pour les petits dommages est développée en fonction de la différence des matrices de transfert, permettant la localisation des dommages par des tests statistiques dans un cadre gaussien, et en plus la quantification des dommages dans une deuxième étape. Enfin, les méthodes proposées sont validées sur des simulations numériques et leurs performances sont testées dans de nombreuses études de cas sur des expériences de laboratoire.

Abstract: International audience; The modeling and feature extraction of human gait motion are crucial in biomechanics studies, human localization and robotics applications. Recent studies in pedestrian navigation aim at extracting gait features based on the data of low-cost sensors embedded in handheld devices such as smartphones. The general assumption in Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) strategy for navigation application is that the presence of a device in hand does not impact the gait symmetry and that all steps are identical. This hypothesis, which is used to estimate the traveled distance, is investigated in this paper with an experimental study. Ten healthy volunteers participated in motion lab tests with a 0.190 kg device in hand. Several walking trials with different device carrying modes and several gait speeds were performed. For a fixed walking speed, it is shown that the steps differ in their duration when holding a mass equivalent to a smartphone mass, which invalidates classical symmetry hypothesis in PDR step length modeling. It is also shown that this hypothesis can lead to a 2.5 to 6.3% error on the PDR estimated traveled distance for the different walking trials.

Abstract: International audience; Although supercapacitors can store less energy than batteries, they are particularly appealing for hybrid vehicle applications (for example, for braking energy recovery, or stop and start systems supply…). As power networks in hybrid vehicle experience high frequency ripple currents due to power electronics components such as static converters, experiments are done to study the impact of high frequency ripple currents on supercapacitor ageing. The results suggest that high frequency ripple currents do not create new ageing mechanisms. A complementary ageing test is also carried out to study the effect of temperature on supercapacitor ageing at very low voltage. It clearly shows that a significant part of increase in supercapacitor resistance is only linked to temperature, instead of the combined effect of temperature and voltage as assumed by literature for supercapacitor ageing. Whereas tests demonstrate that capacitance loss through time is linked (for the most part) to the combined effect of voltage and temperature. Hence, this paper shows that resistance increase is only partially linked to capacitance loss.
