We study the harmonic locus consisting of the monodromy-free Schr\"odinger operators with rational potential and quadratic growth at infinity. It is known after Oblomkov that it can be identified with the set of all partitions via the Wronskian map for Hermite polynomials. We show that the harmonic locus can also be identified with the subset of the Calogero--Moser space introduced by Wilson, which is fixed by the symplectic action of $\mathbb C^\times.$ As a corollary, for the multiplicity-free part of the locus we effectively solve the inverse problem for the Wronskian map by describing the partition in terms of the spectrum of the corresponding Moser matrix. We also compute the characters of the $\mathbb C^\times$-action at the fixed points, proving, in particular, a conjecture of Conti and Masoero. In the Appendix written by N. We study a delay-differential analogue of the first Painlev\'e equation obtained as a delay periodic reduction of Shabat's dressing chain. We construct formal entire solutions to this equation and introduce a new family of polynomials (called Bernoulli-Catalan polynomials), which are defined by a nonlinear recurrence of Catalan type, and which share properties with Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. We also discuss meromorphic solutions and describe the singularity structure of this delay Painlev\'e-I equation in terms of an affine Weyl group of type $A_1^{(1)}$. As an application we demonstrate the link with the problem of calculation of the Masur-Veech volumes of the moduli spaces of meromorphic quadratic differentials by re-deriving some of the known formulas., Comment: Revisions to Introduction and Concluding Remarks. 26 pages, 6 figures

Real-time global illumination is key to enabling more dynamic and physically realistic worlds in performance-critical applications such as games or any other applications with real-time constraints.Hardware-accelerated ray tracing in modern GPUs allows arbitrary intersection queries against the geometry, making it possible to evaluate indirect lighting entirely at runtime. However, only a small number of rays can be traced at each pixel to maintain high framerates at ever-increasing image resolutions. Existing solutions, such as probe-based techniques, approximate the irradiance signal at the cost of a few rays per frame but suffer from a lack of details and slow response times to changes in lighting. On the other hand, reservoir-based resampling techniques capture much more details but typically suffer from poorer performance and increased amounts of noise, making them impractical for the current generation of hardware and gaming consoles. To find a balance that achieves high lighting fidelity while maintaining a low runtime cost, we propose a solution that dynamically estimates global illumination without needing any content preprocessing, thus enabling easy integration into existing real-time rendering pipelines.

In 1956 Hirzebruch found an explicit formula for the denominators of the Todd polynomials, which was proved later in his joint work with Atiyah. We present a new formula for the Todd polynomials in terms of the ``forgotten symmetric functions", which follows from our previous work on complex cobordisms. We establish a link between the new theory of $q$-deformed rational numbers and the classical Burau representation of the braid group $\mathrm{B}_3$. We apply this link to the open problem of classification of faithful complex specializations of this representation. As a result we provide an answer to this problem in terms of the singular set of the $q$-rationals and prove the faithfulness of the Burau representation specialized at complex $t\in \mathbb{C}^*$ outside the annulus $3-2\sqrt2 \leq |t| \leq 3+2\sqrt2.$

A complete classification of finitely generated involutive commutative two-valued groups is obtained. Three series of such two-valued groups are constructed: principal, unipotent and special, and it is shown that any finitely generated involutive commutative two-valued group is isomorphic to a two-valued group belonging to one of these series. A number of classification results are obtained for topological involutive commutative two-valued groups in the Hausdorff and locally compact cases. We study analytic properties of ``$q$-deformed real numbers'', a notion recently introduced by two of us. A $q$-deformed positive real number is a power series with integer coefficients in one formal variable~$q$. We study the radius of convergence of these power series assuming that $q$ is a complex variable. Our main conjecture, which can be viewed as a $q$-analogue of Hurwitz's Irrational Number Theorem, claims that the $q$-deformed golden ratio has the smallest radius of convergence among all real numbers. The conjecture is proved for certain class of rational numbers and confirmed by a number of computer experiments. We also prove the explicit lower bounds for the radius of convergence for the $q$-deformed convergents of golden and silver ratios., Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure

We use the results of Moser and Kn\"orrer on relations between geodesics on quadrics and solutions of the classical Neumann system to describe explicitly the geodesic scattering on hyperboloids. We explain the relation of Kn\"orrer's reparametrisation with projectively equivalent metrics on quadrics introduced by Tabachnikov and independently by Matveev and Topalov, giving a new proof of their result. We show that the projectively equivalent metric is regular on the projective closure of hyperboloids and extend Kn\"orrer's map to this closure., Comment: 27 pages, 5 figures

V. Fock [7] introduced an interesting function $\psi(x)$, $x \in {\mathbb R}$ related to Markov numbers. We explain its relation to Federer-Gromov's stable norm and Mather's $\beta$-function, and use this to study its properties. We prove that $\psi$ and its natural generalisations are differentiable at every irrational $x$ and non-differentiable otherwise, by exploiting the relation with length of closed geodesics on the punctured or one-hole tori with the hyperbolic metric and the results by Bangert [3] and McShane- Rivin [19]., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures

We study Lam\'e operators of the form $$L = -\frac{d^2}{dx^2} + m(m+1)\omega^2\wp(\omega x+z_0),$$ with $m\in\mathbb{N}$ and $\omega$ a half-period of $\wp(z)$. For rectangular period lattices, we can choose $\omega$ and $z_0$ such that the potential is real, periodic and regular. It is known after Ince that the spectrum of the corresponding Lam\'e operator has a band structure with not more than $m$ gaps. In the first part of the paper, we prove that the opened gaps are precisely the first $m$ ones. In the second part, we study the Lam\'e spectrum for a generic period lattice when the potential is complex-valued. We concentrate on the $m=1$ case, when the spectrum consists of two regular analytic arcs, one of which extends to infinity, and briefly discuss the $m=2$ case, paying particular attention to the rhombic lattices.

Consider the Wronskians of the classical Hermite polynomials $$H_{\lambda, l}(x):=\mathrm{Wr}(H_l(x),H_{k_1}(x),\ldots, H_{k_n}(x)), \quad l \in \mathbb Z_{\geq 0},$$ where $k_i=\lambda_i+n-i, \,\, i=1,\dots, n$ and $\lambda=(\lambda_1, \dots, \lambda_n)$ is a partition. G\'omez-Ullate et al showed that for a special class of partitions the corresponding polynomials are orthogonal and dense among all polynomials with certain inner product, but in contrast to the usual case have some degrees missing (so called exceptional orthogonal polynomials). We generalise their results to all partitions by considering complex contours of integration and non-positive Hermitian products. The corresponding polynomials are orthogonal and dense in a finite-codimensional subspace of $\mathbb C[x]$ satisfying certain quasi-invariance conditions. A Laurent version of exceptional orthogonal polynomials, related to monodromy-free trigonometric Schr\"odinger operators, is also presented., Comment: 18 pages

Gaudin hamiltonians form families of r-dimensional abelian Lie subalgebras of the holonomy Lie algebra of the arrangement of reflection hyperplanes of a Coxeter group of rank r. We consider the set of principal Gaudin subalgebras, which is the closure in the appropriate Grassmannian of the set of spans of Gaudin hamiltonians. The explicit constructions of periodic and doubly periodic vortex relative equilibria using the theory of monodromy-free Schr\"odinger operators are described. Several concrete examples with the qualitative analysis of the corresponding travelling vortex streets are given.

We introduce some discrete analogues of the Dirac magnetic monopole on a unit sphere S^2 and explain how to compute the corresponding spectrum using the representation theory of finite groups. The main examples are certain magnetic Laplacians on the regular polyhedral graphs, coming from induced representations of the binary polyhedral groups., Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures

We show that the orthogonal separation coordinates on the sphere $S^n$ are naturally parametrised by the real version of the Deligne-Mumford-Knudsen moduli space $\bar M_{0,n+2}(R)$ of stable curves of genus zero with $n+2$ marked points. We use the combinatorics of Stasheff polytopes tessellating $\bar M_{0,n+2}(R)$ to classify the different canonical forms of separation coordinates and deduce an explicit construction of separation coordinates and St\"ackel systems from the mosaic operad structure on $\bar M_{0,n+2}(R)$., Comment: Extended version, 20 pages, 4 figures

We show that the perturbative part of the partition function in the Chern-Simons theory on a 3-sphere as well as the central charge and expectation value of the unknotted Wilson loop in the adjoint representation can be expressed in terms of the universal Vogel's parameters $\alpha, \beta, \gamma.$ The derivation is based on certain generalisations of the Freudenthal-de Vries strange formula., Comment: Slightly revised version with minor corrections

We give one more interpretation of the symbolic formulae $U(-N)=U(N)$ and $Sp(-2N)=SO(2N)$ by comparing the values of certain Casimir operators in the corresponding tensor representations. We show also that such relations can be extended to the classical symmetric spaces using Macdonald duality for Jack and Jacobi symmetric functions., Comment: 11 pages

Gaudin subalgebras are abelian Lie subalgebras of maximal dimension spanned by generators of the Kohno-Drinfeld Lie algebra t_n. We show that Gaudin subalgebras form a variety isomorphic to the moduli space of stable curves of genus zero with n+1 marked points. In particular, this gives an embedding of the moduli space in a Grassmannian of (n-1)-planes in an n(n-1)/2-dimensional space. We show that the sheaf of Gaudin subalgebras over the moduli space is isomorphic to a sheaf of twisted first order differential operators. For each representation of the Kohno--Drinfeld Lie algebra with fixed central character, we obtain a sheaf of commutative algebras whose spectrum is a coisotropic subscheme of a twisted version of the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space., Comment: 16 pages. To every irreducible finite crystallographic reflection group (i.e., an irreducible finite reflection group G acting faithfully on an abelian variety X), we attach a family of classical and quantum integrable systems on X (with meromorphic coefficients). These families are parametrized by G-invariant functions of pairs (T,s), where T is a hypertorus in X (of codimension 1), and s in G is a reflection acting trivially on T. If G is a real reflection group, these families reduce to the known generalizations of elliptic Calogero-Moser systems, but in the non-real case they appear to be new. We give two constructions of the integrals of these systems - an explicit construction as limits of classical Calogero-Moser Hamiltonians of elliptic Dunkl operators as the dynamical parameter goes to 0 (implementing an idea of arXiv:hep-th/9403178), and a geometric construction as global sections of sheaves of elliptic Cherednik algebras for the critical value of the twisting parameter. A simple integral formula as an iterated residue is presented for the Baker-Akhiezer function related to $A_n$ type root system both in the rational and trigonometric cases. We present also a formula for the Baker-Akhiezer function as a Selberg-type integral and generalise it to the deformed $A_{n,1}$-case. These formulas can be interpreted as new cases of explicit evaluation of Selberg-type integrals., Comment: 13 pages, 2 figures

An integral formula for the solutions of Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov (KZ) equation with values in an arbitrary irreducible representation of the symmetric group S_N is presented for integer values of the parameter. The corresponding integrals can be computed effectively as certain iterated residues determined by a given Young diagram and give polynomials with integer coefficients. The derivation is based on Schur-Weyl duality and the results of Matsuo on the original SU(n) KZ equation. The duality between the spaces of solutions with parameters m and -m is discussed in relation with the intersection pairing in the corresponding homology groups., Comment: 14 pages, reference added

A connection between the Yang-Baxter relation for maps and the multi-dimensional consistency property of integrable equations on quad-graphs is investigated. The approach is based on the symmetry analysis of the corresponding equations. It is shown that the Yang-Baxter variables can be chosen as invariants of the multi-parameter symmetry groups of the equations. We use the classification results by Adler, Bobenko and Suris to demonstrate this method. Some new examples of Yang-Baxter maps are derived in this way from multi-field integrable equations., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures

We consider both standard and twisted action of a (real) Coxeter group G on the complement M_G to the complexified reflection hyperplanes by combining the reflections with complex conjugation. We introduce a natural geometric class of special involutions in G and give explicit formulae which describe both actions on the total cohomology H(M_G,C) in terms of these involutions. As a corollary we prove that the corresponding twisted representation is regular only for the symmetric group S_n, the Weyl groups of type D_{2m+1}, E_6 and dihedral groups I_2 (2k+1) and that the standard action has no anti-invariants. We discuss also the relations with the cohomology of generalised braid groups., Comment: 11 pages

It is shown that for a certain class of Yang-Baxter maps (or set-theoretical solutions to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation) the Lax representation can be derived straight from the map itself. A similar phenomenon for 3D consistent equations on quad-graphs has been recently discovered by A. Bobenko and one of the authors, and by F. Nijhoff.

The Matsuo-Cherednik correspondence is an isomorphism from solutions of Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations to eigenfunctions of generalized Calogero-Moser systems associated to Coxeter groups G and a multiplicity function m on their root systems. We apply this correspondence to the most degenerate case of zero spectral parameters. The space of eigenfunctions is then the space H_m of m-harmonic polynomials, recently introduced in math-ph/0105014. We compute the Poincare' polynomials for the space H_m and of its isotypical components corresponding to each irreducible representation of the group G. We also give an explicit formula for m-harmonic polynomials of lowest positive degree in the S_n case., Comment: 22 pages
