As a fundamental tool in synthetic biology, promoters are pivotal in regulating gene expression, enabling precise genetic control and spurring innovation across diverse biotechnological applications. However, most advances in engineered genetic systems rely on host-specific regulation of the genetic portion. With the burgeoning diversity of synthetic biology chassis cells, there emerges a pressing necessity to broaden the universal promoter toolkit spectrum, ensuring adaptability across various microbial chassis cells for enhanced applicability and customization in the evolving landscape of synthetic biology. In this study, we analyzed and validated the primary structures of natural endogenous promoters from Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Corynebacterium glutamicum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Pichia pastoris, and through strategic integration and rational modification of promoter motifs, we developed a series of cross-species promoters (Psh) with transcriptional activity in five strains (prokaryotic and eukaryotic). This series of cross species promoters can significantly expand the synthetic biology promoter toolkit while providing a foundation and inspiration for standardized development of universal components The combinatorial use of key elements from prokaryotic and eukaryotic promoters presented in this study represents a novel strategy that may offer new insights and methods for future advancements in promoter engineering.

Bacteria exhibit a rich repertoire of RNA molecules that intricately regulate gene expression at multiple hierarchical levels, including small RNAs (sRNAs), riboswitches, and antisense RNAs. Notably, the majority of these regulatory RNAs lack or have limited protein-coding capacity but play pivotal roles in orchestrating gene expression by modulating transcription, post-transcription or translation processes. Leveraging and redesigning these regulatory RNA elements have emerged as pivotal strategies in the domains of metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. While previous investigations predominantly focused on delineating the roles of regulatory RNA in Gram-negative bacterial models such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica, this review aims to summarize the mechanisms and functionalities of endogenous regulatory RNAs inherent to typical Gram-positive bacteria, notably Bacillus subtilis. Furthermore, we explore the engineering and practical applications of these regulatory RNA elements in the arena of synthetic biology, employing B. subtilis as a foundational chassis.

The probiotic bacterium Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) holds significant promise for use in clinical and biological industries. However, the reliance on antibiotics to maintain plasmid-borne genes has overshadowed its benefits. In this study, we addressed this issue by engineering the endogenous cryptic plasmids pMUT1 and pMUT2. The non-essential elements were removed to create more stable derivatives pMUT1NR△ and pMUT2HBC△. Synthetic promoters by integrating binding motifs on sigma factors were further constructed and applied for expression of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron heparinase III and the biosynthesis of ectoine. Compared to traditional antibiotic-dependent expression systems, our newly constructed antibiotic-free expression systems offer considerable advantages for clinical and synthetic biology applications.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a severe disease threatening people's health. The aim of this study is to find a significant biomarker inducive to predicting the prognosis of HF. Methods: GSE135055 and GSE161472 datasets were reanalyzed for exploring key genes related to HF. This single-center, prospective, observational cohort study enrolled 298 patients with or without HF from the Cardiology Department of Zhongda Hospital. Levels of ADAM8 were measured using ELISA kits. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) were defined as the composite end points of the first occurrence of rehospitalization because of HF or cardiac-related death during one-year follow-up. Abstract Early and prompt reperfusion therapy has markedly improved the survival rates among patients enduring myocardial infarction (MI). Nonetheless, the resulting adverse remodeling and the subsequent onset of heart failure remain formidable clinical management challenges and represent a primary cause of disability in MI patients worldwide. Macrophages play a crucial role in immune system regulation and wield a profound influence over the inflammatory repair process following MI, thereby dictating the degree of myocardial injury and the subsequent pathological remodeling. Despite numerous previous biological studies that established the classical polarization model for macrophages, classifying them as either M1 pro-inflammatory or M2 pro-reparative macrophages, this simplistic categorization falls short of meeting the precision medicine standards, hindering the translational advancement of clinical research. Recently, advances in single-cell sequencing technology have facilitated a more profound exploration of macrophage heterogeneity and plasticity, opening avenues for the development of targeted interventions to address macrophage-related factors in the aftermath of MI. In this review, we provide a summary of macrophage origins, tissue distribution, classification, and surface markers. Furthermore, we delve into the multifaceted roles of macrophages in maintaining cardiac homeostasis and regulating inflammation during the post-MI period.

Background Although the Japanese chronic total occlusion (J-CTO) score is widely used to assess the complexity of revascularization for CTO lesions, ambiguous and conflicting results are reported in validation studies. Therefore, we aimed to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the J-CTO score and explore the heterogeneity of its comparison with other CTO scores.Methods PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases were systematically searched from January 1st, 2011 to December 23rd, 2021. Studies that examined the accuracy of the J-CTO score were eligible. Where feasible, estimates of discrimination and calibration were pooled with a random-effects model. The Prediction model Risk Of Bias ASsessment Tool (PROBAST) was used for risk-of-bias assessment. This study was reported according to PRISMA guidelines and prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019126161).Results Of 28 included studies (N = 34,944 lesions), 24 were eligible for meta-analysis. The J-CTO score demonstrated significant discrimination for 30-min wire crossing (summary C-statistic 0.76; 95% CI 0.68–0.84) and technical success (0.68; 95% CI 0.61–0.74) despite significant heterogeneity. Only 19 (33%) of the 58 pairwise comparisons with 14 competing scores that were based on discrimination reported a statistical result. The J-CTO score performed worse (relative difference of C-statistics >5%) in eight out of 33 independent comparisons but better in another 13. Methodological shortcomings resulted from only one study evaluating model calibration appropriately.Conclusion The discrimination power of the J-CTO score was useful for time-efficient wire crossing and moderate for angiographic success. Head-to-head comparisons of CTO scores would benefit from standardized reporting and appropriate statistical methods.Key messagesThe J-CTO score has useful discrimination in predicting 30-min wire crossing while performing moderately for technical success.After excluding optimism bias, there is insufficient independent evidence supporting the superiority of newly introduced models over the J-CTO score.Standardized methodology and assessment are needed to achieve a better understanding of CTO scores, especially for their calibration.

In this article, we investigate the dynamics of a stochastic HIV model with a Hill-type infection rate and distributed delay, which are better choices for mass action laws. First, we transform a stochastic system with weak kernels into a degenerate high-dimensional system. Then the existence of a stationary distribution is obtained by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function, which determines a sharp critical value $ R_0^s $ corresponding to the basic reproduction number for the determined system. Moreover, the sufficient condition for the extinction of diseases is derived. More importantly, the exact expression of the probability density function near the quasi-equilibrium is obtained by solving the Fokker-Planck equation. Finally, numerical simulations are illustrated to verify the theoretical results.

Abstract RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), protein kinase R (PKR), and endosomal Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) sense viral non-self RNA and are involved in cell fate determination. However, the mechanisms by which intracellular RNA induces apoptosis, particularly the role of each RNA sensor, remain unclear. We performed cytoplasmic injections of different types of RNA and elucidated the molecular mechanisms underlying viral dsRNA-induced apoptosis. The results obtained revealed that short 5′-triphosphate dsRNA, the sole ligand of RIG-I, induced slow apoptosis in a fraction of cells depending on IRF-3 transcriptional activity and IFN-I production. However, intracellular long dsRNA was sensed by PKR and TLR3, which activate distinct signals, and synergistically induced rapid apoptosis. PKR essentially induced translational arrest, resulting in reduced levels of cellular FLICE-like inhibitory protein and functioned in the TLR3/TRIF-dependent activation of caspase 8. The present results demonstrated that PKR and TLR3 were both essential for inducing the viral RNA-mediated apoptosis of infected cells and the arrest of viral production.

Background The Murray law‐based quantitative flow ratio (μQFR) is a novel technique that simulates fractional flow reserve (FFR) from a single angiographic view. However, the impact of sex differences on the diagnostic performance of μQFR has not been investigated. Methods and Results In this study, FFR and μQFR were assessed in 497 intermediate stenoses (30%–70% by visual estimation) from 460 patients (34.3% female). Physiological significance was defined as FFR ≤0.80 or μQFR ≤0.80. After adjusting for potential confounders, female sex was independently associated with higher FFR (P=0.048 and 0.026, respectively) and μQFR (P=0.001 for both) in both fully adjusted and stepwise backward models. μQFR provided superior diagnostic accuracy compared with angiography alone for detecting FFR ≤0.80 in both women (area under the curve, 0.93 [95% CI, 0.88–0.97] versus 0.80 [95% CI, 0.73–0.86]; P=0.001) and men (area under the curve, 0.88 [95% CI, 0.84–0.92] versus 0.73 [95% CI, 0.68–0.78]; P

DNA damage activates the DNA damage response and autophagy in C. albicans; however, the relationship between the DNA damage response and DNA damage-induced autophagy in C. albicans remains unclear. Mec1-Rad53 signaling is a critical pathway in the DNA damage response, but its role in DNA damage-induced autophagy and pathogenicity in C. albicans remains to be further explored. In this study, we compared the function of autophagy-related (Atg) proteins in DNA damage-induced autophagy and traditional macroautophagy and explored the role of Mec1-Rad53 signaling in regulating DNA damage-induced autophagy and pathogenicity. We found that core Atg proteins are required for these two types of autophagy, while the function of Atg17 is slightly different. Our results showed that Mec1-Rad53 signaling specifically regulates DNA damage-induced autophagy but has no effect on macroautophagy. The recruitment of Atg1 and Atg13 to phagophore assembly sites (PAS) was significantly inhibited in the mec1Δ/Δ and rad53Δ/Δ strains. The formation of autophagic bodies was obviously affected in the mec1Δ/Δ and rad53Δ/Δ strains. We found that DNA damage does not induce mitophagy and ER autophagy. We also identified two regulators of DNA damage-induced autophagy, Psp2 and Dcp2, which regulate DNA damage-induced autophagy by affecting the protein levels of Atg1, Atg13, Mec1, and Rad53. The deletion of Mec1 or Rad53 significantly reduces the ability of C. albicans to systematically infect mice and colonize the kidneys, and it makes C. albicans more susceptible to being killed by macrophages.

Abstract Background METTL3 is the core catalytic enzyme in m6A and is involved in a variety of cardiovascular diseases. However, whether and how METTL3 plays a role during angiotensin II (Ang-II)-induced myocardial hypertrophy is still unknown. Methods Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) and C57BL/6J mice were treated with Ang-II to induce myocardial hypertrophy. qRT-PCR and western blots were used to detect the expression of RNAs and proteins. Gene function was verified by knockdown and/or overexpression, respectively. Luciferase and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays were used to verify interactions among multiple genes. Wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), and immunofluorescence were used to examine myocardial size. m6A methylation was detected by a colorimetric kit. Results METTL3 and miR-221/222 expression and m6A levels were significantly increased in response to Ang-II stimulation. Knockdown of METTL3 or miR-221/222 could completely abolish the ability of NRCMs to undergo hypertrophy. The expression of miR-221/222 was positively regulated by METTL3, and the levels of pri-miR-221/222 that bind to DGCR8 or form m6A methylation were promoted by METTL3 in NRCMs. The effect of METTL3 knockdown on hypertrophy was antagonized by miR-221/222 overexpression. Mechanically, Wnt/β-catenin signaling was activated during hypertrophy and restrained by METTL3 or miR-221/222 inhibition. The Wnt/β-catenin antagonist DKK2 was directly targeted by miR-221/222, and the effect of miR-221/222 inhibitor on Wnt/β-catenin was abolished after inhibition of DKK2. Finally, AAV9-mediated cardiac METTL3 knockdown was able to attenuate Ang-II-induced cardiac hypertrophy in mouse model. Conclusions Our findings suggest that METTL3 positively modulates the pri-miR221/222 maturation process in an m6A-dependent manner and subsequently activates Wnt/β-catenin signaling by inhibiting DKK2, thus promoting Ang-II-induced cardiac hypertrophy. AAV9-mediated cardiac METTL3 knockdown could be a therapeutic for pathological myocardial hypertrophy.

BackgroundDespite anthocyanidins have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, no studies have researched association between dietary intake of anthocyanidins and heart failure.MethodsWe enrolled 15,869 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2007–2010 and 2017–2018) in this cross-sectional study. We examined baseline data and prevalence of heart failure in different quartile groups of anthocyanin intake (Q1-4). Three models were established through logistic regression to evaluate the protective effect of Q4 (highest anthocyanidins intake) on heart failure. The protective effect of high anthocyanidins intake on heart failure was further evaluated in different subgroups.ResultsParticipants with the highest anthocyanidins intake (Q4) had the lowest prevalence of heart failure (Q1:2.54%, Q2:2.33%, Q3:2.43%, Q4:1.57%, p = 0.02). After adjusting for possible confounding factors, compared with the Q1 group, the highest anthocyanidins intake (Q4) was independently related to lower presence of heart failure (Q4: OR 0.469, 95%CI [0.289, 0.732], p = 0.003). And this association was still stable in subgroups of female, ≥45 years, smoker, non-Hispanic White or without diabetes, stroke and renal failure.ConclusionDietary intake of anthocyanidins had negative association with the presence of heart failure.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a heterogeneous disease with complex clinicopathological characteristics. To date, the role of m6A RNA methylation in monocyte-derived macrophages involved in the progression of AD is unknown. In our study, we found that methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) deficiency in monocyte-derived macrophages improved cognitive function in an amyloid beta (Aβ)-induced AD mouse model. The mechanistic study showed that that METTL3 ablation attenuated the m6A modification in DNA methyltransferase 3A (Dnmt3a) mRNAs and consequently impaired YTH N6-methyladenosine RNA binding protein 1 (YTHDF1)-mediated translation of DNMT3A. We identified that DNMT3A bound to the promoter region of alpha-tubulin acetyltransferase 1 (Atat1) and maintained its expression. METTL3 depletion resulted in the down-regulation of ATAT1, reduced acetylation of α-tubulin and subsequently enhanced migration of monocyte-derived macrophages and Aβ clearance, which led to the alleviated symptoms of AD. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that m6A methylation could be a promising target for the treatment of AD in the future.

Doxorubicin is one of the most common antitumor drugs. However, cardiotoxicity’s side effect limits its clinical applicability. In the present study, Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets were applied to reanalyze differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and construct weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) modules of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in wild-type mice. Several other bioinformatics analyses were performed to pick out the hub gene, and then the correlation between the hub gene and immune infiltration was evaluated. In total, 120 DEGs were discovered in a mouse model of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, and PF-04217903, propranolol, azithromycin, etc. were found to be potential drugs against this pathological condition. Among all the DEGs, 14 were further screened out by WGCNA modules, of which Limd1 was upregulated and finally regarded as the hub gene after being validated in other GEO datasets. Limd1 was upregulated in the peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) of the rat model, and the area under curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) in diagnosing cardiotoxicity was 0.847. The GSEA and PPI networks revealed a potential immunocyte regulatory role of Limd1 in cardiotoxicity. The proportion of “dendritic cells activated” in the heart was significantly elevated, while “macrophage M1” and “monocytes” declined after in vivo doxorubicin application. Finally, Limd1 expression was significantly positively correlated with “dendritic cells activation’ and negatively correlated with “monocytes” and “macrophages M1’. In summary, our results suggested that limd1 is a valuable biomarker and a potential inflammation regulator in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.

At the conceptual stage of product design, simplified automobile body frame constituted by thin-walled beams can effectively be used to predict global performances, including weight, rigidity, and frequency. These performances can be improved by optimizing their cross-sectional shapes (CSS) of thin-walled beams. However, it is difficult to optimize the CSS while satisfying multiple performances, because this is a multiple objectives and design variables optimization problem. The gradient-based optimization algorithms are difficult to obtain the global optimal solutions for the automobile structures. Therefore, this paper proposes an innovative multi-objective optimization method to design the CSS of automobile body by using the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) combining with the artificial neural network. Firstly, the mechanical properties of the CSS are summarized, including open-cell, single-cell, and double-cells. These mechanical properties determine the performances of the automobile structure. Then, the multi-objective optimization model is created by using the NSGA-II while considering the weight, stiffness, and frequency, which is implemented in the self-developed CarFrame software. Finally, the proposed method is verified by optimizing the CSS for the A-pillar of automobile frame.

Objective: To explore the role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting the short-term prognosis of NSTEMI and STEMI.Methods: This study was a single-center, retrospective and observational study. 2618 patients including 1289 NSTMI and 1329 STEMI patients were enrolled from June 2013 to February 2018 in Zhongda Hospital, Southeast University. The demographic information, clinical characteristics, medical history, laboratory examination, treatment, and outcome of individuals at admission and during hospitalization were extracted from the electronic medical record system. Outcome was defined as the all-cause death during hospitalization.Results: (1) In the NSTEMI group, the ability of NLR in predicting in-hospital death (AUC = 0.746) was higher than the neutrophil-monocyte ratio (NMR) (AUC = 0.654), the platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) (AUC = 0.603) and the lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR) (AUC = 0.685), and also higher than AST (AUC = 0.621), CK (AUC = 0.595), LDH (AUC = 0.653) and TnI (AUC = 0.594). The AUC of NLR in the STEMI group was only 0.621. (2) The optimal cut-off value of NLR in NSTEMI group was 5.509 (Youden index = 0.447, sensitivity = 77.01%, specificity = 67.72%). After adjusting variables including age, sex, diabetes history, smoking history, LDL-C and Cr, the logistic regression showed that the patients with NLR>5.509 had higher hazard risk of death (HR4.356; 95%CI 2.552–7.435; P < 0.001) than the patients with NLR ≤ 5.509. (3) Stratification analysis showed that the in-hospital mortality of patients with NLR > 5.509 was 14.611-fold higher than those with NLR ≤ 5.509 in patients aged 71. The HR in patients with or without diabetes were 6.586 and 3.375, respectively. The HR in smoking or no smoking patients were 6.646 and 4.145, respectively. The HR in patients with LDL-C ≥ 2.06 or

Rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widespread in both the military and civilian applications. However, there are still some problems for the UAV design such as the long design period, high manufacturing cost, and difficulty in maintenance. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel design method to obtain a lightweight and maintainable UAV frame from configurable design to detailed design. First, configurable design is implemented to determine the initial design domain of the UAV frame. Second, topology optimization method based on inertia relief theory is used to transform the initial geometric model into the UAV frame structure. Third, process design is considered to improve the manufacturability and maintainability of the UAV frame. Finally, dynamic drop test is used to validate the crashworthiness of the UAV frame. Therefore, a lightweight UAV frame structure composed of thin-walled parts can be obtained and the design period can be greatly reduced via the proposed method.

Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the fatal cardiac emergencies. The detection of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM1), a cell surface immunoglobulin that amplifies pro-inflammatory responses, screened by bioinformatics was shown to be significant in diagnosing and predicting the prognosis of AMI. Methods GSE66360, GSE61144 and GSE60993 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to explore the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between AMI and control groups using R software. A total of 147 patients in total were prospectively enrolled from October 2018 to June 2019 and divided into two groups, the normal group (n = 35) and the AMI group (n = 112). Plasma was collected from each patient at admission and all patients received 6-month follow-up care. Results According to bioinformatic analysis, TREM1 was an important DEG in patients with AMI. Compared with the normal group, TREM1 expression was markedly increased in the AMI group (p < 0.001). TREM1 expression was positively correlated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAC), and the number of lesion vessels, although it had no correlation with Gensini score. TREM1 expression in the triple-vessels group was significantly higher than that of the single-vessel group (p < 0.05). Multiple linear regression showed that UA and HbAC were two factors influencing TREM1 expression. The ROC curve showed that TREM1 had a diagnostic significance in AMI (p < 0.001), especially in AMI patients without diabetes. Cox regression showed increased TREM1 expression was closely associated with 6-month major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) (p < 0.001). Conclusions TREM1 is a potentially significant biomarker for the diagnosis of AMI and may be closely associated with the severity of coronary lesions and diabetes. TREM1 may also be helpful in predicting the 6-month MACEs after AMI.

Background: This study aimed to examine whether quantitative flow ratio (QFR), an angiography-based computation of fractional flow reserve, was associated with intravascular imaging-defined vulnerable plaque features, such as thin cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) in patients with stable angina, and non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome.Methods: Patients undergoing optical coherence tomography (OCT) or intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) examinations were identified from two prospective studies and their interrogated vessels were assessed with QFR. Lesions in the OCT cohort were classified into tertiles: QFR-T1 (QFR ≤ 0.85), QFR-T2 (0.85 < QFR ≤ 0.93), and QFR-T3 (QFR > 0.93). Lesions in the IVUS cohort were classified dichotomously as low or high QFR groups.Results: This post-hoc analysis included 132 lesions (83 for OCT and 49 for IVUS) from 126 patients. The prevalence of OCT-TCFA was significantly higher in QFR-T1 (50%) than in QFR-T2 (14%) and QFR-T3 (19%) (p = 0.003 and 0.018, respectively). Lightweight automobile body structure, made of aluminum, can extend the endurance mileage of electric automobile. However, the mechanisms for the application of aluminum in automobile body structure are not clear until now. The main contribution of this work is to propose a method of equivalent substitution criteria of aluminum for steel. This method researches small deformation and large deformation under bending mode. First, formulations of cross-sectional properties, including open, single-cell, double-cell, three-cell, and four-cell sections, are derived, and equivalent substitution criteria in the case of small deformation, which include equal stiffness design and equal strength design, are initially proposed. Second, in the case of large deformation, the steel circular tube and channel tube are substituted by aluminum tube under equivalent stiffness. The bending resistance of five types of tubes, including rectangular hollow section, rectangular hollow section with double-cell, rectangular hollow section with triple-cell, mild steel, and high-strength steel tube, are, respectively, compared considering crashworthiness under equal mass. Third, the side frame and chassis frame examples verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, which is universal and can also be applied in aerospace structures.

Background: In this study, we aimed to explore key genes as biomarker for diagnosis AMI through using Bioinformatics tools. Methods: GSE4648 and GSE60993 were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). DEGs in GSE4648 and GSE60993 were selected to run GO enrichment, KEGG pathway, and PPI network. Hub genes in DEGS of GSE4648 and GSE60993 were selected out according to Molecular Complex Detection (MCODE) and overlapping genes were further screened out. Finally, the most important gene of coincide genes was used for deeper clinical study of patients with AMI. Results: A total of 41 and 173 DEGs were screened out in GSE4648 and GSE60993 respectively. GO and KEGG analysis showed similar biological process, cellular Component and molecular function of these two group DEGs. PPI network of these two group DEGs were built and 19 key genes of GSE4648 were selected out according to MCODE, while 48 key genes of GSE60993 were selected out. Overlapping genes of these 19 and 48 genes included PLAUR, ARG1, FOS, and IL1R2, and fold change (FC) of ARG1 was the biggest. Therefore, ARG1 was detected in 46 controls and 115 AMI patients by ELISA, and ARG1 was significantly upregulated in AMI group. Pearson correlation analysis indicated ARG1 was positive correlated with gensini score (R = 0.378). ROC curve revealed that area under ROC curve (AUC) of ARG1 was 77.6%. Conclusion: Therefore, ARG1 might play an important role in the development of AMI and could be used as biomarker of AMI.

A diffusive ratio-dependent predator-prey system with Holling-III functional response and delay effects is considered. Global stability of the boundary equilibrium and the stability of the unique positive steady state and the existence of spatially homogeneous and inhomogeneous periodic solutions are investigated in detail, by the maximum principle and the characteristic equations. Ratio-dependent functional response exhibits rich spatiotemporal patterns. It is found that, the system without delay is dissipative and uniformly permanent under certain conditions, the delay can destabilize the positive constant equilibrium and spatial Hopf bifurcations occur as the delay crosses through some critical values. Then, the direction and the stability of Hopf bifurcations are determined by applying the center manifold reduction and the normal form theory for partial functional differential equations. Some numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the theoretical results.

The dynamics of a diffusive ratio-dependent Holling-Tanner predator-prey system subject to Neumann boundary conditions are considered. By choosing the ratio of intrinsic growth rates of predators to preys as a bifurcation parameter, the existence and stability of spatially homogeneous and nonhomogeneous Hopf bifurcations and steady state bifurcation are investigated in detail. Meanwhile, we show that Turing instability takes place at a certain critical value; that is, the stationary solution becomes unstable induced by diffusion. Particularly, the sufficient conditions of the global stability of the positive constant coexistence are given by the upper-lower solutions method.
