The disruption, trauma, and stressors brought by COVID-19 have increased recognition and normalization of workforce mental health needs. Objective: Given the importance of mental health and well-being assessments to employers' efforts to optimize employee health and well-being, this paper reviews mental health assessments that have utility in the workplace. Data Source: A review of publicly available mental health and well-being assessments was conducted with a primary focus on burnout, general mental health and well-being, loneliness, psychological safety, resilience, and stress. Inclusion Criteria: Assessments had to be validated for adult populations; available in English as a stand-alone tool; have utility in an employer setting; and not have a primary purpose of diagnosing a mental health condition. Data Extraction: All assessments were reviewed by a minimum of two expert reviewers to document number of questions, subscales, fee structure, international use, translations available, scoring/reporting, respondent (ie, employee or organization), and the target of the assessment (ie, mental health domain and organizational or individual level assessments. Data Synthesis & Results: Sixty-six assessments across the six focus areas met inclusion criteria, enabling employers to select assessments that meet their self-identified measurement needs. Conclusion: This review provides employers with resources that can help them understand their workforce's mental health and well-being status across multiple domains, which can serve as a needs assessment, facilitate strategic planning of mental health and well-being initiatives, and optimize evaluation efforts. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to extraordinary changes in family literacy instruction, forcing face-to-face programmes to shift rapidly (or "on the fly") to online, remote instruction. This study is one of the few on online teaching and learning in family literacy and, to the knowledge of the authors, the first on emergency remote instruction in a family literacy programme during the COVID-19 pandemic. This article examines how the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy at The Pennsylvania State University in the United States has responded to the pandemic by converting its face-to-face family literacy classes into emergency remote instruction using online platforms. Serving eight immigrant families in 2019–2020 who live in the State College area in central Pennsylvania, the Family Pathways programme includes adult education, parent education and interactive parent–child literacy activities. The article discusses how teachers created online learning opportunities for parents and children to learn together, the strategies and resources instructors used to teach remotely, how challenges such as discomfort with technology were addressed, and what has been learned from the experience. Although COVID-19 presents unprecedented challenges for educators and learners in family literacy programmes more broadly, it has also compelled instructors in this particular programme to use remote instruction creatively and has revealed the critical importance of family literacy programmes as an educational support system for low-income and immigrant families. Endophytes are ubiquitous plant‐associated microbes and although they have the potential to alter the decomposition of infected leaf litter, this has not been well‐studied. The endophyte Rhytisma punctatum infects the leaves of Acer macrophyllum (bigleaf maple), causing the appearance of black 'tar spots' that persist in senesced leaves. Other foliar fungi also cause visible damage in healthy tissues of this host plant system including an unidentified bullseye‐shaped lesion, common in western Washington. Using three treatments of endophyte infection status in leaf tissue (R. punctatum‐infected, bullseye‐infected, lesion‐free), leaf litter discs were submerged in a third‐order temperate stream using mesh litter bags and harvested periodically over two months to determine the effects of litter treatment and incubation time on litter mass loss, fungal sporulation, and microbial community colonization. Litter containing symptomatic endophyte infections (Rhytisma or bullseye) had reduced sporulation of aquatic hyphomycetes, but decomposed significantly faster than lesion‐free or bullseye‐infected litter. Using amplicon‐based sequencing, we found a significant difference in bacterial communities colonizing Rhytisma‐infected and bullseye‐infected leaf litter, a significant difference in fungal communities colonizing Rhytisma‐infected leaf litter compared to the two other treatments, and a change in both community structure and relative abundances of bacterial and fungal taxa throughout the study period. Indicator Species Analysis clarified the drivers of these community shifts at the genus level. In the Pacific Northwest, Alnus rubra Bong. (red alder) is a common deciduous tree species especially prevalent in riparian corridors and disturbed sites, including metropolitan areas undergoing land use changes and development. Importantly, red alder is also considered a bioindicator for ozone pollution and, like all plants, harbors a diverse endophyte community that may interact with aerial pollutants. In this study, we surveyed foliar fungal endophyte communities (microfungi) in red alder leaves from the metropolitan area of Portland, Oregon, USA, using culture-based techniques, and found that communities differed significantly by site. Our results suggest that the fungal endophyte community composition in red alder leaves may be influenced in part by local air pollution sources, likely in conjunction with other site characteristics. As urban areas expand, more studies should focus on how the urban environment affects plant–microbe community ecology and endophyte–host interactions, as well as on the long-term consequences for other ecosystem processes such as leaf litter decomposition. It highlights several case studies presented by the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) to emphasize employer wellness programs and the elements that contribute to their success. It also outlines the advantage of the CoH and its related elements as it provides clear guidance and direction for employers interested in developing a culture that fosters health and well-being.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the evolution in treatment recommendations and outcomes for patients with subcentimeter, node-negative, triple-negative disease. METHODS: Patients were divided into a remote (diagnosed from 1997 to 2003) and a recent (diag-nosed from 2004 to 2011) group. Demographics, tumor size, surgical treatment, use of adjuvant che-motherapy, survival, and disease recurrence were evaluated. RESULTS: Thirty patients were placed in the remote group and 31 in the recent group. Demograph-ics, tumor sizes, and surgical treatment were similar between groups. The use of adjuvant chemother-apy increased from 7% to 42% in the recent group (P < .002). Disease-free survival and recurrence (7%) was not influenced by the use of chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that adjuvant chemotherapy is increasingly used in pa-tients with the triple-negative phenotype, regardless of other favorable prognostic variables. Background and Purpose: β-Adrenoceptor agonists relieve airflow obstruction by activating β2 -adrenoceptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed on human airway smooth muscle (HASM) cells. The currently available β-adrenoceptor agonists are balanced agonists, however, and signal through both the stimulatory G protein (Gs )- and β-arrestin-mediated pathways. While Gs signalling is beneficial and promotes HASM relaxation, β-arrestin activation is associated with reduced Gs efficacy. In this context, biased ligands that selectively promote β2 -adrenoceptor coupling to Gs signalling represent a promising strategy to treat asthma. Here, we examined several β-adrenoceptor agonists to identify Gs -biased ligands devoid of β-arrestin-mediated effects.Experimental Approach: Gs -biased ligands for the β2 -adrenoceptor were identified by high-throughput screening and then evaluated for Gs interaction, Gi interaction, cAMP production, β-arrestin interaction, GPCR kinase (GRK) phosphorylation of the receptor, receptor trafficking, ERK activation, and functional desensitization of the β2 -adrenoceptor.Key Results: We identified ractopamine, dobutamine, and higenamine as Gs -biased agonists that activate the Gs /cAMP pathway upon β2 -adrenoceptor stimulation while showing minimal Gi or β-arrestin interaction. Furthermore, these compounds did not induce any receptor trafficking and had reduced GRK5-mediated phosphorylation of the β2 -adrenoceptor. Finally, we observed minimal physiological desensitization of the β2 -adrenoceptor in primary HASM cells upon treatment with biased agonists.Conclusion and Implications: Our work demonstrates that Gs -biased signalling through the β2 -adrenoceptor may prove to be an effective strategy to promote HASM relaxation in the treatment of asthma. R3832 --> 536.4 --> Asthma is characterized by chronic airway inflammation and airway smooth muscle (ASM) cell contraction. Current treatments for asthma include beta‐agonists which activate the beta 2‐adrenergic receptor, a G protein‐coupled receptor (GPCR) that promotes Gs‐dependent production of cAMP leading to ASM relaxation. Unfortunately, beta‐agonists can also promote severe side effects including an increased risk of having a severe asthmatic attack that can result in death. Such side effects have been correlated with the action of beta‐arrestins, scaffolding proteins that mediate GPCR desensitization and internalization as well as G protein independent signaling. In this scenario, biased ligands that promote selective receptor interaction with Gs should be beneficial in promoting airway relaxation while attenuating beta‐arrestin‐induced side effects. To test this, we have used high‐throughput screening to identify Gs‐biased beta‐agonists. The initial lead candidates were further analyzed for their ability to modulate receptor induced Gs and Gi interaction, cAMP production, and beta‐arrestin interaction using bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) analysis. We identified three compounds with Gs‐biased properties which showed minimal beta‐arrestin recruitment. These compounds were also able to decrease beta‐arrestin mediated outputs including receptor internalization and ERK activation. These compounds also showed reduced GRK‐mediated phosphorylation of the receptor as well as decreased agonist‐promoted desensitization in a physiological model of asthma (human ASM cells). In conclusion, these Gs‐biased beta‐agonists may pave the way for the development of more effective drugs for the treatment of asthma and may help to clarify the structural determinants of receptor mediated biased signaling. Although most lotic ecosystems experience frequent and sometimes large disturbances, opportunities are uncommon to study primary succession in streams. Exceptions include new stream channels arising from events such as glacial retreat, volcanism, and catastrophic landslides. In 1980, the eruption and massive landslide at Mount St. Helens (WA, U.S.A.) created an entire landscape with five new catchments undergoing primary succession. We asked if riparian and lotic assemblages at early successional stages (36 years after the eruption) showed predictable change along longitudinal gradients within catchments, and whether assemblages were similar among five replicate catchments.In July 2016, we collected environmental data and characterised riparian, algal, and benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages at 21 stream reaches distributed within and among five neighbouring catchments. We evaluated patterns of richness, abundance, biomass, multivariate taxonomic community structure, and functional traits both longitudinally and among catchments.We found minimal evidence that longitudinal gradients had developed within catchments at 36 years post‐eruption. Increases in diatom and macroinvertebrate richness with downstream distance were the only biological responses with longitudinal trends. Conversely, we documented substantial variation in community structure of riparian plants, soft‐bodied algae, diatoms, and macroinvertebrates at the among‐catchment scale. Among‐catchment differences consistently separated two eastern catchments from three western catchments, and these two groups also differed in stream water chemistry, water temperature, and geomorphology.Overall, we documented greater diversity in the young catchments than predicted by ecologists in the years immediately following the eruption, yet functional traits indicate that these catchments are still in relatively early stages of succession. Variation at the among‐catchment scale is likely to be driven in part by hydrological source variation, with the two eastern catchments showing environmental signatures associated with glacial ice‐melt and the three western catchments probably fed primarily by springs from groundwater aquifers. Contemporary flow disturbance regimes also varied among catchments and successional trajectories were probably reset repeatedly in streams experiencing more frequent disturbance.Similar to new stream channels formed following glacial retreat, our results support a tolerance model of succession in streams. However, contrasting abiotic templates among Mount St. Helens catchments appear to be driving different successional trajectories of riparian plant, algal, and macroinvertebrate assemblages among neighbouring small catchments sharing the same catastrophic disturbance history. Many aspects of the workplace such as the work environment, compensation, job security, and demands may affect the health of employees.[21] Additionally, socioeconomic status (SES) variables such as education, gender, and racial and ethnic disparities contribute to the type of work people do, workplace conditions, and earnings. Social determinants of health, social risk factors, and employees' individual social needs can impact employer business performance and profitability.[48] Furthermore, employee performance and productivity may be impacted by chronic conditions caused by SDOH. Employers, too, are addressing social needs of employees through value-based benefit design and by building workplaces that foster fulfilling employee experiences.[53] Employers are considering how employees' functional well-being and emotional intelligence are influenced by social needs by considering employee behavioral health support services.[54] In order to improve health and reduce health disparities, employers will need to follow the health systems' lead by collaborating with community organizations and businesses to address employee social risk factors.
