Abstract Anaplasma and Ehrlichia are tick-borne bacterial pathogens that cause anaplasmoses and ehrlichioses in humans and animals. In this study, we examined the prevalence of Anaplasma and Ehrlichia species in ticks and domesticated animals in Suizhou County, Hubei Province in the central China. We used PCR amplification and DNA sequencing of the 16S rRNA, groEL, and gltA genes to analyze. We collected 1900 ticks, including 1981 Haemaphysalis longicornis and 9 Rhipicephalus microplus, 159 blood samples of goats (n = 152), cattle (n = 4), and dogs (n = 3) from May to August of 2023. PCR products demonstrated that Anaplasma bovis, Anaplasma capra, and an Ehrlichia species were detected in the H. longicornis with the minimum infection rates (MIR) of 1.11%, 1.32%, and 0.05%, respectively; A. bovis, A. capra, and unnamed Anaplasma sp. were detected in goats with an infection rate of 26.31%, 1.31% and 1.97%, respectively. Anaplasma and Ehrlichia species were not detected from cattle, dogs and R. microplus ticks. The genetic differences in the groEL gene sequences of the Anaplasma in the current study were large, whereas the 16S rRNA and gltA gene sequences were less disparate. This study shows that ticks and goats in Suizhou County, Hubei Province carry multiple Anaplasma species and an Ehrlichia species, with relatively higher infection rate of A. bovis in goats. Our study indicates that multiple Anaplasma and Ehrlichia species exist in ticks and goats in the central China with potential to cause human infection.

Pluripotent stem cells were generated through the electroporation of episomal plasmids, containing crucial reprogramming factors, into skin fibroblasts extracted from a female Alzheimer’s patient harboring the PSEN1 709 T > C (p.Phe237Leu) heterozygous mutation. The pluripotent stem cells exhibit a normal karyotype and express pivotal stem cell markers including TRA-1-60, Nanog, SOX2, and OCT4. Furthermore, their capacity to differentiate into the three germ layers in in vivo teratoma experiments has been substantiated. The pluripotent stem cell line can serve as a cellular model for Alzheimer’s disease, offering significant value in elucidating the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies of the disease.

Sodium-glucose linked transporter (SGLT-2) inhibitors are the most emerging glucose-lowering agents. Predominantly expressed in kidney, SGLT-2 is mainly distributed in upper part of proximal tubule. Mainly responsible for a reabsorption of filtered glucose, it accounts for over 80%-90% of glucose reabsorption. And SGLT-1 takes up the remainders. SGLT-2 inhibitors act at proximal tubule where they inhibit glucose and sodium reabsorption, thus enhancing urinary sugar excretion and lowering body glucose burden. Several studies have confirmed that SGLT-2 inhibitors might improve the prognoses of renal and cardiovascular disease in diabetics. Also there are significant protective effects on renal system of patients with non-diabetic kidney disease (NDKD). Therefore the induction protection mechanism of SGLT-2 inhibitors on non-diabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD) has attracted growing attention. This review summarized the latest researches of renoprotective mechanism of SGLT-2 inhibitors in NDKD.

Abstract Background Disability was a major public health problem in China. However, the prevalence of disabilities in community-dwelling adults and their relationships to chronic physical conditions were unclear. We aimed to estimate the prevalence of disabilities and associated factors among a large community-based cohort in China. Methods Participants who were local permanent residents aged 18 years or above and completed the disability assessments were selected from the Cohort study on Chronic Disease of Communities Natural Population in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei (CHCN-BTH) from 2017 to 2019. Disability was assessed using five questions about impairments and activity limitations based on the International Classification of Functioning (ICF), Disability and Health. Univariate, multivariate and multilevel logistic regressions were conducted to estimate the associations between disabilities and associated factors. Results Totally, 12,871 community-dwelling adults completed the survey. Among of them, 12.9% (95% CI: 12.3%-13.5%) reported having any disability. Abstract Objective: To investigate the association between folate levels and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk during the whole pregnancy. Design: In this retrospective cohort study of pregnant women, serum folate levels were measured before 24 gestational weeks (GW). GDM was diagnosed between 24th and 28th GW based on the criteria of the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups. General linear models were performed to examine the association of serum folate with plasma glucose (i.e. linear regressions) and risk of GDM (i.e. log-binomial regressions) after controlling for confounders. Restricted cubic spline regression was conducted to test the dosage–response relationship between serum folate and the risk of GDM. Setting: A sigle, urban hospital in Shanghai, China. Participants: A total of 42 478 women who received antenatal care from April 2013 to March 2017 were included. Results: Consistent positive associations were observed between serum folate and plasma glucose levels (fasting, 1-h, 2-h). The adjusted relative risks (RR) and 95 % CI of GDM across serum folate quartiles were 1·00 (reference), 1·15 (95 % CI (1·04, 1·26)), 1·40 (95 % CI (1·27, 1·54)) and 1·54 (95 % CI (1·40, 1·69)), respectively (P-for-trend < 0·001). The positive association between serum folate and GDM remained when stratified by vitamin B12 (adequate v. deficient groups) and the GW of serum folate measurement (≤13 GW v. >13 GWs) Conclusions: The findings of this study may provide important evidence for the public health and clinical guidelines of pregnancy folate supplementation in terms of GDM prevention.

The carbon dioxide electroreduction reaction (CO2RR) represents a sustainable way to store intermittent renewable energy in a manner that generates virtually zero net emissions, yet the energy efficiency remains a significant bottleneck due to its sluggish kinetics and complex reaction pathways. There is a strong demand for highly efficient electrocatalysts that can achieve high energy and Faradaic efficiency, as well as rapid conversion. Among various developed CO2RR catalysts, nickel-based materials have garnered increasing attention due to their outstanding performance and low cost. In this review, the relevant CO2RR mechanisms are firstly discussed in detail. Following this, several typical Ni-based catalysts including Ni-based complexes catalysts, nanoparticles and alloys, Ni-based compounds, and atomically dispersed Ni catalysts are summarized. The preparation strategies for industrial level electrocatalysts are also highlighted in this review. Finally, the opportunities, challenges and future outlooks of CO2RR technology are summarized. This review introduces the recent advances and frontiers of nickel-based CO2RR catalysts, which enlightens the path for further exploration of highly efficient CO2RR electrocatalysts.

ObjectiveThis randomized double-blinded clinical study is to investigate the clinical efficacy of per-paravertebral disk ozone injection combined with steroids in the treatment of patients with chronic discogenic low back pain (CDLBP).MethodsGroup A (N = 60) received a per-paravertebral injection of a steroid mixture of 10 mL with pure oxygen 20 mL, while group B (N = 60) received a per-paravertebral injection of a steroid mixture of 10 mL combined with ozone 20 mL (30 μg/mL). Injections were administered once a week for 3 weeks, with a follow-up of 6 months. Clinical outcomes were assessed at week 1, month 3, and month 6 with the help of Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores and Macnab efficacy evaluation.ResultsThe VAS score of both group A (1.65 vs. 6.87, p = 0.000) and group B (1.25 vs. 6.85, p = 0.000) at week 1 was significantly reduced compared to baseline. AIM: To compare the differences in choroidal structure between hyperopic amblyopia and normal children of the same age by the enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography(EDI-OCT)technique.METHODS: There were 35 cases in 50 eyes of children with hyperopic amblyopia visiting our hospital in January 2021 to December 2021 selected in the amblyopic group, and 30 cases in 51 eyes of healthy children who matched general data in the same period were selected in the control group. EDI-OCT examination was performed to measure the choroidal thickness(CT). After image processing, the total choroidal area(TCA), luminal area(LA), stromal area(SA)and choroidal vascularity index(CVI)were obtained.RESULTS: TCA(except inferior quadrant), SA(except inferior quadrant of the outer ring), LA and CT(except inferior and temporal quadrant )in the amblyopic group of each area were significantly larger than that in the control group(P0.05). There was no significant difference in CT for all degrees of hyperopic amblyopia, with the exception of the nasal quadrant(P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Hyperopic amblyopia is accompanied with abnormal choroidal structure. As the degree of hyperopia increases, TCA, LA and SA exhibit increasing trends. The changes in choroidal structure are presumed to be related to hyperopic amblyopia.

Abstract Background Long-term antiviral treatments are associated with a significantly lower hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) incidence in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients by reducing HBV DNA concentrations. However, it is still controversial whether antiviral strategies affect HCC development in antiviral treatment-naïve CHB patients. This study aimed to estimate the incidence of HCC in antiviral treatment-naïve CHB patients who were treated with Entecavir (ETV) and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) and compare the efficacy of two treatment regimens in HCC reduction. Methods The PubMed, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases were systematically searched until June 24, 2021. The pooled incidence and 95% confidence interval of HCC were calculated by the Freeman-Tukey double arcsine transformation method. The efficacies of ETV and TDF treatments in HCC reduction were compared through a network meta-analysis. Results A total of 27 studies were identified as eligible for this systematic review. The incidence densities in the ETV and TDF treatment groups were 2.78 (95% CI: 2.21-3.40) and 2.59 (95% CI: 1.51-3.96) per 100 persons-year among patients with preexisting cirrhosis and 0.49 (95% CI: 0.32-0.68) and 0.30 (95% CI: 0.06-0.70) per 100 persons-year among patients without preexisting cirrhosis. As the proportion of CHB patients with preexisting cirrhosis increased, the incidence density of HCC also increased gradually. Compared with other Nucleos(t)ide analogs (NAs) treatments, ETV and TDF treatments significantly lowered the risk of HCC, with hazard ratios (HRs) of 0.60 (95% CI: 0.40-0.90) and 0.56 (95% CI: 0.35-0.89), respectively. However, there was no difference in the incidence density of HCC between ETV and TDF treatments (HR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.71-1.20) regardless of preexisting cirrhosis. Conclusion ETV and TDF treatments were associated with significantly lower risks of HCC than other NAs treatments. However, no difference was observed between ETV and TDF treatments in the risk of HCC development regardless of preexisting cirrhosis among treatment-naïve CHB patients.

Objective. To investigate the association between β1 adrenergic receptor autoantibodies (β1-AA) and angiotensin II type-1 receptor autoantibodies (AT1-AA) and cardiac function in patients with hypertension complicated with left ventricular diastolic function limitation. Methods. A total of 120 patients with essential hypertension who were not taking drug treatment and were hospitalised in the Department of Cardiology at the authors’ hospital from April 2018 to December 2018 were enrolled in this study and divided into a diastolic dysfunction group (65 cases) and a normal diastolic group (55 cases) according to their left ventricular diastolic function. The levels of cardiac parameters, β1-AA, AT1-AA, and other indicators were compared. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyse the related factors affecting left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD). The diagnostic efficacy of related factors in the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction was evaluated. Results. Univariate analysis demonstrated that the left ventricular posterior wall diameter (10.29±1.23 vs. 9.12±1.53), left ventricular systolic dysfunction (10.56±1.37 vs. 9.43±1.44), systolic blood pressure (152.37±10.24 vs. 140.33±5.99), diastolic blood pressure (95.66±6.34 vs. 87.33±7.28), β1-AA (33 vs. 9 cases), and AT1-AA (35 cases vs. 12 cases) were higher in the dysfunction group than in the control group (all P

A full multispan two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) iced covered transmission line model is presented. Taking multispan conductors as the research object, based on the Hamiltonian principle, a nonlinear galloping model of multispan conductors considering the influence of insulator strings is established, and its galloping equation is derived. Based on the theoretical formula, the modes and frequencies in-plane and out-of-plane of the multispan conductor plane were obtained. After the partial differential equation was transformed into an ordinary differential equation by the Galerkin discrete method, the multiple scale method was used to solve the dynamic response of the multispan conductors. Through numerical calculations, this study is the first to systematically analyze the effects of parameters such as span number, span length, and tension on the in-plane and out-of-plane motion characteristics of multi-span conductors from a theoretical perspective. The research results in this paper have certain reference value for preventing multispan conductor galloping and interphase flashover.

Abstract Background There is an urgent need to identify potential targets in anticancer therapy to improve the survival and prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer (OC). Herein, we investigated the functional significance of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 14 (CXCL14) in OC cell growth and epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Methods qRT PCR and western blotting was used to detect CXCL14 mRNA level and protein expression, respectively. The functional mechanism of CXCL14 in OC was investigated by CCK-8, colony formation and transwell assays. The migration ability of OC cell was determined using wound healing. The protein expressions of CXCL14 and β-catenin in OC tissues were determined by immumohistochemical staining. Results We demonstrated that high levels of CXCL14 were associated with a worse prognosis in patients with OC. CXCL14 knockdown considerably restrained the growth, migration and invasion of OC cell in vitro. In contrast, ectopic CXCL14 overexpression yielded the opposite results. Investigations to determine the underlying molecular mechanisms revealed that the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is involved in CXCL14-facilitated OC cell invasiveness. Conclusion These data collectively demonstrate that CXCL14 contributes to OC cell growth and metastatic potential by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Abstract The aim of this study was to identify the locations and harvest months in Guizhou province, China, producing the most suitable red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) for winemaking. Fruit from Guanling, Luodian and Zhenfeng counties was harvested separately from successive fruit cycles in August, September and October, respectively. The key traits measured were fruit weight, pulp yield, soluble solids content, and titratable acid. Wine characteristics measured were alcohol content, total carbohydrates, titratable acidity, volatile acidity, and betacyanin content. The overall suitability of fruit from each location for winemaking was evaluated using a multi‐factor, unweighted, scorecard. On that basis, fruit from Guanling county harvested in August was the most suitable. Fruit from Luodian, and Zhenfeng was most suitable when harvested in August and September, and September, respectively. These results provide a preliminary guide for the sourcing of red dragon fruit from Guizhou for wine production.

Background: The prevalence of childhood obesity has been increasing worldwide. The connection between iron deficiency and obesity has received much research interest. The present study examined the profiles of anemia among school-aged children categorized by obesity-related index in Shandong, China. Methods: A total of 20,172 children aged 7, 9, 12, and 14 years participated in the study, whose hemoglobin (Hb) concentration was measured by laboratory technicians. The prevalence rates of anemia among children within each subgroup categorized by body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were determined. Results: On the whole, 3.99% of boys and 6.68% of girls suffer from anemia. Disparities in the prevalence of anemia were observed between different subgroups categorized by BMI, WC and WHtR. For both boys and girls, the prevalence of anemia increased with the severity of thinness and obesity, suggesting that both severe thinness and severe obesity are associated with an elevated prevalence of anemia. Conclusion: In the era of the obesity pandemic, obesity could potentially add to the burden of anemia, suggesting that obese children should not be ignored when establishing strategies targeted at preventing anemia.

Diabetic retinopathy is the most common disease of microvascular diseases caused by diabetes. It is harmful to vision in the late stage. If not treated in time, it can cause blindness. The diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diabetic retinopathy were mainly based on fundus fluorescein angiography. There are some limitations in the clinical application because of the side effects of its operation, such as invasive, allergic and adverse reactions. Recently, optical coherence tomography has become more and more popular among ophthalmologists for its noninvasive, rapid and high resolution fundus angiography. It cannot only display the choroidal vascular network information in layers, but also quantitatively analyze the changes of blood flow in the macular region. For the first time, the blood flow analysis of optic disc and macular area in vivo has reached the level of tissue anatomy. It has wide application prospect and is more and more favored by ophthalmologists. In this paper, the clinical application of octa in diabetic retinopathy was reviewed.

Aripiprazole, metformin, and paeoniae–glycyrrhiza decoction (PGD) have been widely used as adjunctive treatments to reduce antipsychotic (AP)-induced hyperprolactinemia in patients with schizophrenia. However, the comparative efficacy and safety of these medications have not been previously studied. A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety between aripiprazole, metformin, and PGD as adjunctive medications in reducing AP-induced hyperprolactinemia in schizophrenia. Both international (PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases) and Chinese (WanFang, Chinese Biomedical, and Chinese National Knowledge infrastructure) databases were searched from their inception until January 3, 2019. Data were analyzed using the Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations with the WinBUGS software. A total of 62 RCTs with 5,550 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Of the nine groups of treatments included, adjunctive aripiprazole (1:1) was associated with the lowest rate of all-cause discontinuation compared to placebo (posterior odds ratio = 0.45, 95% CI = 0.10, 3.13) and adjunctive aripiprazole (>10 mg/day) was associated with fewer total adverse drug events than placebo (posterior OR = 0.93, 95% CI = 0.65, 1.77) and other eight treatment groups. In addition, when risperidone, amisulpride, and olanzapine were the primary AP medications, adjunctive paeoniae/glycyrrhiza = 1:1, aripiprazole 10 mg/day were the most effective treatments in reducing the prolactin levels, respectively. China experiences serious agricultural damages from rodents, and, correspondingly, researchers in China are actively studying rodent biology and management. Following the popularization of ecologically-based rodent pest management and extension of the basic state policy of Ecological Civilization Construction in China, recent efforts in rodent control technologies are mainly focused on eliminating side effects of rodenticides and developing environmentally friendly techniques. Considering ecological functions of rodents to test their interaction with the environment is a promising design for understanding rodent populations in local ecosystems and for developing ecologically-based rodent management. Using ecological phenotypes and applying advanced techniques of molecular biology, genetics, and epigenetics might be useful for illustrating the deep regulatory mechanisms of fluctuations in rodent populations. However, facing the dual characteristics of rodents as pests and their roles as keystone species in many ecosystems, it is still a challenge to establish reasonable local thresholds to balance rodent management with the negative effects of rodent control on the environment in the future.

Objective: To study the effects of continuous epidural injection of dexamethasone on blood glucose, blood lipids, plasma cortisol, and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in patients with neuropathic pain.Methods: Thirty patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, lumbar disc herniation, herpes pain or postherpetic neuralgia were randomly divided into three groups and were treated with different doses of epidural injection of dexamethasone (Group S with a concentration of 25 μg/mL; Group M with a concentration of 50 μg/mL; Group L with a concentration of 100 μg/mL). Epidural catheterization placement was guided by computed tomography (CT), and was connected to the analgesic pump for 10 days. Visual Analog Score (VAS), fasting blood glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (CHOL), triglyceride (TG), 2 h postprandial blood glucose (2hPG) and the concentrations of cortisol, ACTH were measured before injection (T0), 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 days during injection (D2, D4, D6, D8, D10), and 7, 14, 21, 28 days (W1, W2, W3, W4) after injection.Results: During and after the treatment, VAS score was significantly decreased, and group M and L had the lowest VAS score. The concentrations of cortisol and ACTH were significantly lower during the treatment, but all of them recovered to the normal level after stopping the injection. The treatment did not affect the CHOL and TG concentrations.Discussion: Epidural injection of dexamethasone at the concentration of 50 μg/mL is recommended for patients with neuropathic pain because of its good analgesic effect and less adverse effect on blood glucose, plasma cortisol, and ACTH.

Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) involves persistent, uncontrolled formation of premature blood vessels with reduced number of pericytes. Our previous work showed that advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) induced angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells, mouse retina, and aortic ring, which was associated with moesin phosphorylation. Here we investigated whether moesin phosphorylation may contribute to pericyte detachment and the development of PDR. Primary retinal microvascular pericytes (RMPs) were isolated, purified from weanling rats, and identified by cellular markers α-SMA, PDGFR-β, NG2, and desmin using immunofluorescence microscopy. Effects of AGE-BSA on proliferation and migration of RMPs were examined using CCK-8, wound healing, and transwell assays. Effects on moesin phosphorylation were examined using western blotting. The RMP response to AGE-BSA was also examined when cells expressed the non-phosphorylatable Thr558Ala mutant or phospho-mimicking Thr558Asp mutant of moesin or were treated with ROCK inhibitor Y27632. Colocalization and interaction between CD44, phospho-moesin, and F-actin were observed. Experiments with cultured primary RMPs showed that AGE-BSA inhibited the proliferation, enhanced the migration, and increased moesin phosphorylation in a dose- and time-dependent manner. AGE-BSA also triggered the rearrangement of F-actin and promoted the interaction of CD44 with phospho-moesin in RMPs. These effects were abrogated in cells expressing the non-phosphorylatable moesin mutant and the application of ROCK inhibitor Y27632 attenuated AGE-induced alteration in cultured RMPs by abolishing the phosphorylation of moesin. However, those AGE-induced pathological process occurred in RMPs expressed the phospho-mimicking moesin without AGE-BSA treatment. It is concluded that AGEs could activate ROCK to mediate moesin phosphorylation at Thr558, and resulting phospho-moesin interacts with CD44 to form CD44 cluster, which might stimulate the migration of RMPs and subsequent RMP detachment in microvessel. This pathway may provide new drug targets against immature neovessel formation in PDR.

The choice of optimal reference gene is challenging owing to the varied expression of reference genes in different organs, development stages, and experimental treatments. Brandt’s vole (Lasiopodomys brandtii) is an ideal animal to explore the regulatory mechanism of seasonal breeding, and many studies on this vole involve gene expression analysis using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). In this study, we used the method of the coefficient of variation and the NormFinder algorithm to evaluate the performance of nine commonly used reference genes Gapdh, Hprt1, β-actin, PPIA, Rpl13a, Tbp, Sdha, Hmbs, and B2M using qRT-PCR in eight different tissues, five developmental stages, and three different photoperiods. We found that all nine genes were not uniformly expressed among different tissues. B2M and Rpl13a were the optimal reference genes for different postnatal development stages in the hypothalamus for males and females, respectively. Under different photoperiods in the hypothalamus, none of the selected genes were suitable as reference genes at 6 weeks postnatal; β-actin and PPIA were the optimal reference genes at 12 weeks postnatal; Hprt1, β-actin, PPIA, Hmbs, and B2M were excellent reference genes at 24 weeks postnatal. The present study provides a useful basis for selecting the appropriate reference gene in Lasiopodomys brandtii.

Abstract Background Dusuqing granules (DSQ) have been used in the treatment of bacterial pneumonia clinically, with remarkable benefits. This study was initiated to explore the effects of DSQ on pulmonary inflammation by regulating nuclear factor (NF)-κB/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling in bacterial pneumonia rats. Methods Rat model was duplicated with Klebsiella pneumonia by a one-time intratracheal injection. Rats were randomized into control, model, DSQ and levofloxacin (LVX) groups. After administrated with appropriate medicines for 7 days, lung tissues were harvested and prepared for pathological analysis, and interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1and macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-2 detections. NF-κB mRNA was measured by real-time qPCR, and the phosphorylation and total proteins of P38MAPK, JNK46/54, ERK42/44 were determined by Western blotting. Results Marked pathological impairments were observed in model rats, whereas were improved in DSQ group. The cytokines levels, NF-κB mRNA expression and the phosphorylation of P38MAPK, JNK46/54 and ERK42/44 proteins were significantly higher in model group, and were significantly depressed in DSQ group. Conclusion The protective effects of DSQ on Klebsiella pneumonia might be attributed to its inactivative effects of NF-κB/ MAPK pathway.

Objectives To investigate the relationship between coronary artery calcification and calcium deposition in cardiomyocytes. Methods Patients who underwent valve replacement plus surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation, together with left atrial appendage resection, were included. Coronary artery calcification (CAC) score was evaluated prior to surgery using dual-source computed tomography. Samples of left atrial appendage tissue were collected to analyse the following indicators: calcium deposition, alkaline phosphatase activity, calcium content, protein levels of runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), osteopontin and β-catenin, and mRNA levels of osteopontin, endothelin and ghrelin. Relationships between CAC score and various indicators were analysed by univariate logistic or linear regression. Results Out of tissue from eight patients, CAC score was not correlated with cardiomyocyte calcification (odds ratio [OR] 0.984 and OR 0.983; von Kossa or alizarin red staining, respectively). CAC score showed an inverse linear correlation with Runx2 protein (β = –0.75), but was not correlated with osteopontin (β = –0.52) or β-catenin protein (β = –0.56), mRNA levels of osteopontin, endothelin and ghrelin (β = 0.13, 0.02, and 0.02, respectively), alkaline phosphatase activity (β = 0.56), or calcium content (β = –0.22). Conclusions Coronary artery calcification was not correlated with calcium deposition in cardiomyocytes.

In this study, using the direct sequencing technology, 6 SNPs were identified in PRL gene, among which, 3 SNPs were present in coding region and 3 in 3’UTR. Mutations in coding region did not change the protein sequences. SNPs g.4603, g.8823 and g.8885 were utilized for association test with AFE, EN 300 and EN 500. SNP g.4603 was associated with EN 300, whereas the SNP g.8823 was significantly associated with EN 300. These two SNPs in PRL gene could be used as the potential molecular markers for egg production traits selection in Taihang chicken.

Time-delay chaotic systems can have hyperchaotic attractors with large numbers of positive Lyapunov exponents, and can generate highly stochastic and unpredictable time series with simple structures, which is very suitable as a secured chaotic source in chaotic secure communications. But time-delay chaotic systems are generally designed and implemented by using analog circuit design techniques. Analog implementations require a variety of electronic components and can be difficult and time consuming. At this stage, we can now solve this question by using FPAA (Field-Programmable Analog Array). FPAA is a programmable device for implementing multiple analog functions via dynamic reconfiguration. In this paper, we will introduce two FPAA-based design examples: An autonomous Ikeda system and a non-autonomous Duffing system, to show how a FPAA device is used to design programmable analog time-delay chaotic systems and analyze Shannon entropy and Lyapunov exponents of time series output by circuit and simulation systems.

Tumor cell invasion into the surrounding matrix has been well documented as an early event of metastasis occurrence. However, the dynamic expression patterns of proteins during early invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are largely unknown. Using a three-dimensional HCC invasion culture model established previously, we investigated the dynamic expression patterns of identified proteins during early invasion of HCC.Highly metastatic MHCC97H cells and a liver tissue fragment were long-term co-cultured in a rotating wall vessel (RWV) bioreactor to simulate different pathological states of HCC invasion. The established spherical co-cultures were collected on days 0, 5, 10, and 15 for dynamic expression pattern analysis. Significantly different proteins among spheroids at different time points were screened and identified using quantitative proteomics of iTRAQ labeling coupled with LC-MS/MS. Dynamic expression patterns of differential proteins were further categorized by K-means clustering. The expression modes of several differentially expressed proteins were confirmed by Western blot and qRT-PCR.Time course analysis of invasion/metastasis gene expressions (MMP2, MMP7, MMP9, CD44, SPP1, CXCR4, CXCL12, and CDH1) showed remarkable, dynamic alterations during the invasion process of HCC. A total of 1,028 proteins were identified in spherical co-cultures collected at different time points by quantitative proteomics. Among these proteins, 529 common differential proteins related to HCC invasion were clustered into 25 types of expression patterns. Some proteins displayed significant dynamic alterations during the early invasion process of HCC, such as upregulation at the early invasion stage and downregulation at the late invasion stage (e.g., MAPRE1, PHB2, cathepsin D, etc.) or continuous upregulation during the entire invasion process (e.g., vitronectin, Met, clusterin, ICAM1, GSN, etc.).Dynamic expression patterns of candidate proteins during the early invasion process of HCC facilitate the discovery of new molecular targets for early intervention to prevent HCC invasion and metastasis.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the difference between schizophrenia patients and normal controls on velocity and acceleration of saccade, by using the basic visually guided saccade (VGS) paradigm. METHODS: Eighteen schizophrenia outpatients and fourteen normal controls participated in the VGS task. Multiple indicators, including amplitude, duration, velocity, latency, accuracy rate, acceleration, and deceleration were analyzed. Asymmetric acceleration index (AAI) was introduced to describe the difference between peak acceleration and peak deceleration. The correlation coefficient (RAD) of AAI and duration was computed to examine the difference between schizophrenia patients and normal controls. RESULTS: No significant difference between patients and normal controls was found on amplitude, duration, latency, and accuracy rate. However, RAD values of schizophrenia patients were significantly lower than the control group. CONCLUSION: Compared to normal controls, association of saccade duration and saccade acceleration/deceleration asymmetry during visually guided saccade was lower in schizophrenia patients.

This study aimed to identify glycosylation-related genes associated with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) prognosis through comprehensive bioinformatic analysis. Glycosylation-related genes were identified from the Human Gene Nomenclature Committee, and LUAD prognostic genes were screened from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO)-GSE68465 datasets. Glycosylation risk score (GLRS) was calculated to predict LUAD prognostic risk. Samples were grouped into GLRS-high and GLRS-low and compared. The Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) score was computed to assess the antitumor immune escape possibility after immunotherapy. From 213 glycosylation-related genes, five gene signatures served as prognostic LUAD predictors using univariate and stepwise Cox regression analyses. GLRS-based models were constructed using TCGA and GSE68465 samples; their sensitivity and specificity in predicting LUAD prognosis were confirmed. GLRS was an independent LUAD prognostic factor and contributed to the nomogram to predict patient survival. High GLRS was associated with advanced tumor stage and higher mutation frequencies, estimate scores, and TIDE scores. GLRS-high and GLRS-low patients differed in immune cell infiltration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related gene expression. Thus, we propose five glycosylation-related gene signatures to predict overall survival and prognostic risks of LUAD.
