BackgroundPreeclampsia (PE) is one of the most common hypertensive diseases, affecting 2%-8% of all pregnancies. The high maternal and fetal mortality rates of PE are due to a lack of early identification of affected pregnant women that would have led to closer monitoring and care. Recent data suggest that misfolded proteins might be a promising biomarker for PE prediction, which can be detected in urine samples of pregnant women according to their congophilia (aggregated) characteristic. ObjectiveThe main purpose of this trial is to evaluate the value of the urine congophilia-based detection of misfolded proteins for the imminent prediction of PE in women presenting with suspected PE. The secondary objectives are to demonstrate that the presence of urine misfolded proteins correlates with PE-related maternal or neonatal adverse outcomes, and to establish an accurate PE prediction model by combining misfolded proteins with multiple indicators. MethodsAt least 300 pregnant women with clinical suspicion of PE will be enrolled in this prospective cohort study. Participants should meet the following inclusion criteria in addition to a suspicion of PE: ≥18 years old, gestational week between 20+0 and 33+6, and single pregnancy. Consecutive urine samples will be collected, blinded, and tested for misfolded proteins and other PE-related biomarkers at enrollment and at 4 follow-up visits. Clinical assessments of PE status and related complications for all participants will be performed at regular intervals using strict diagnostic criteria. Investigators and participants will remain blinded to the results. Follow-up will be performed until 42 days postpartum. Data from medical records, including maternal and fetal outcomes, will be collected. The performance of urine misfolded proteins alone and combined with other biomarkers or clinical variables for the prediction of PE will be statistically analyzed. ResultsEnrollment started in July 2023 and was still open upon manuscript submission. As of March 2024, a total of 251 eligible women have been enrolled in the study and enrollment is expected to continue until August 2024. Results analysis is scheduled to start after all participants reach the follow-up endpoint and complete clinical data are collected. ConclusionsUpon completion of the study, we expect to derive an accurate PE prediction model, which will allow for proactive management of pregnant women with clinical suspicion of PE and possibly reduce the associated adverse pregnancy outcomes. The additional prognostic value of misfolded proteins is also expected to be confirmed. In this work, the effect of minor Ag addition on shear performance of ball grid array (BGA) structure Cu/SnBi/Cu solder joints under electric current stressing was investigated. The results show that the shear strength of solder joints decreased with increasing current density, and the effect of Ag addition on shear strength changed from an elevating state to a deteriorating state. The elevating effect of Ag addition was due to the dominance of Sn/Bi phase refinement and Ag3Sn dispersion, which was weakened gradually with the increase in current density. The deteriorating effect of Ag addition was attributed to the more inhomogeneous distribution of current density and higher thermal gradient induced by the finer phase of the solder matrix as well as the consequent severer strain mismatch at the Sn/Bi phase interface. The finer Sn/Bi phase was also conductive to easier lattice atom migration under current stressing, resulting in a rapid decrease in shear strength. Moreover, the dominant factor on the shear strength reduction tended to change from Joule heating to athermal effect of current stressing. The fracture of solder joints indicated an insignificant influence by the Ag addition, which all occurred in the solder matrix in a ductile mode.

To realize the low-carbon operation of integrated energy systems (IESs), this paper proposes a low-carbon optimal scheduling method. First of all, considering the integrated demand response of price-based electricity and heating, an economic scheduling model of the IES integrated demand response based on chance-constrained programming is proposed to minimize the integrated operating cost in an uncertain environment. Through the comprehensive demand response model, the impact of the demand response ratio on the operating economy of the IES is explored. Afterward, the carbon emission index is introduced, and gas turbines and energy storage devices are used as the actuators of multi-energy coupling to further explore the potential interactions between the coupling capacities of various heterogeneous energy sources and carbon emissions. Finally, the original uncertainty model is transformed into a mixed-integer linear-programming model and solved using sequence operation theory and the linearization method. The results show that the operating economy of the IES is improved by coordinating the uncertainty of the integrated demand response and renewable energy. In addition, the tradeoff between the working economy and reliability of the EIS can be balanced via the setting of an appropriate confidence level for the opportunity constraints.

Apoptosis in postmortem muscle is a potential factor affecting meat quality. This study aimed to investigate the changes in apoptotic genes and proteins, reactive oxygen species (ROS), caspase-3 activity and their underlying relationship with meat tenderization. As postmortem time extended, there was a significant increase in myofibril fragmentation index (MFI) and destruction of muscle fibers. Oxidative stress deepened alongside the onset of apoptosis. Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) decreased, and caspase-3 activity increased during the first 24 h postmortem. Forty apoptotic genes displayed significant differences, involving DNA damage, autophagy, the death receptor pathway, the mitochondrial pathway, the Bcl-2 family, and the caspases family. The expression of most apoptotic genes was abundant in the early postmortem stage, enhancing the potential for early apoptosis. Apoptotic proteins of apoptosis-inducing factor, mitochondrion-associated 1 (AIFM1) and endonuclease G (ENDOG) showed the damage of apoptosis to DNA. Also, the decreasing expression of Bcl2 and increasing expression of Bak1 with time demonstrated the effects of mitochondrial apoptosis on postmortem muscle. These findings suggest that postmortem muscle apoptosis is a physiological process co-regulated by multiple genes, and potentially contributes to meat tenderization and quality.

We theoretically investigate that mechanical quantum squeezing in a dissipative optomechanical system, driven by two driving tones, can be improved through quadratic dispersive coupling (QDC) which appears by adjusting a membrane in an appropriate position of an optical cavity. The analytical expressions are derived for revealing the intrinsic mechanism of the mechanical squeezing improvement. Remarkably, compared with the case without QDC, an optimal condition involved the QDC is found to considerably enhance the mechanical squeezing, without reducing the purity of the mechanical squeezed state which even increases at low temperature. We also show that, in this scheme, the mechanical squeezing is still improved by QDC and beyond 3 dB even though the temperature rises. This improvement effect can be reflected by the broader frequency band of the measurable squeezing output field from the cavity. This provides a new opportunity to explore high-precision measurements and quantum nature of macroscopic objects.

Background: The association between misfolded proteins presented in the urine of pregnant women and pregnancy outcomes associated with early-onset pre-eclampsia (PE) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate this association to examine the predictive value of urinary congophilia in the prognostication of pregnancy outcomes in this patient group in the Chinese population.Materials and Methods: This study included 1,397 patients, of which 46, 147, and 8 patients had gestational hypertension, PE, and chronic hypertension, respectively, and 1,196 were healthy controls undergoing the CapCord test for urinary congophilia. Patients with PE were divided into early- and late-onset groups. Patients with early-onset PE were further divided into iatrogenic prematurity and full-term delivery groups, the rates of urinary congophilia were compared between the groups; additionally, this patient group was divided into positive and negative urinary congophilia groups, clinical characteristics and pregnancy outcomes were compared between the groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed.Results: A total of 113 (76.9%) of 147 patients in the PE group had urinary congophilia; this rate was higher than that observed in the other three groups (χ2 = 780.892, p < 0.001). Gestational age in the early-onset PE group at both onset and delivery was lower than that in the late-onset PE group (p < 0.001). The rates of iatrogenic prematurity and hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count syndrome were both higher in the early-onset PE group than in the late-onset PE group (p < 0.001, p < 0.05). In addition, the rate of urinary congophilia in the early-onset PE group was higher than that in the late-onset PE group (χ2 = 13.297, p < 0.001). Urinary congophilia was an independent risk factor for iatrogenic prematurity among patients with early-onset PE in both univariate [odds ratio (OR) 17.143, 95% confidence interval (CI): 4.719–62.271; p < 0.001] and multivariate (OR 18.174; 95% CI: 4.460–74.063; p < 0.001) analyses. Patients with early-onset PE and urinary congophilia were more likely than their counterparts without urinary congophilia to deliver at a lower gestational age, present with iatrogenic prematurity, and have a shorter latency period between onset and delivery.Conclusion: Urinary congophilia confirmed with the CapCord test may help predict pregnancy outcomes in patients with early-onset PE.

This study evaluated the effects of three polysaccharides, xanthan gum (XG), kappa-carrageenan (CA), and guar gum (GG), on the foaming and emulsifying properties of egg white liquid (EWL) and explored the intermolecular interactions and aggregation states in the initial polysaccharide–EWL complex. The results showed that the addition of XG and GG significantly improved the foaming stability of EWL on the one hand, from 66% to 78% and 69%, respectively (p < 0.05). On the other hand, the addition of XG and GG significantly improved the foam uniformity and density, and the average foam area decreased from 0.127 to 0.052 and 0.022 mm2, respectively (p < 0.05). The addition of XG and CA significantly improved the emulsification activity index (from 13.32 to 14.58 and 14.36 m2/mg, respectively, p < 0.05) and the emulsion stability index (from 50.89 to 53.62 and 52.18 min, respectively, p < 0.05), as well as the interfacial protein adsorption at the oil–water interface; it also reduced the creaming index. However, GG negatively affected these indicators. Furthermore, the electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions among molecules in EWL due to XG and the electrostatic, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic interactions among molecules in EWL due to CA ultimately led to the irregular aggregation of egg white proteins. Hydrophobic interactions and disulfide bonds between molecules in EWL–containing GG formed filamentous aggregations of egg white proteins. This work reveals that molecules in the polysaccharide–egg white complexes aggregate by interaction forces, which in turn have different effects on the foaming and emulsifying properties of egg white proteins.

Nowadays, extra heavy oil reservoirs in the Orinoco Heavy-Oil-Belt in Venezuela are exploited via cold production process, which present different production performance in well productivity and primary recovery factor. The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes for such differences with the aspect of foamy oil mechanism. Two typical oil samples were adopted from a shallow reservoir in western Junìn region and a middepth reservoir in eastern Carabobo region in the Belt, respectively. A depletion test was conducted using 1D sand-pack with a visualized microscopic flow observation installation for each of the oil samples under simulated reservoir conditions. The production performance, the foamy oil behaviour, and the oil and gas morphology were recorded in real time during the tests. The results indicated that the shallow heavy oil reservoir in the Belt presents a weaker foamy oil phenomenon when compared with the middepth one; its foamy oil behaviour lasts a shorter duration with a smaller scope, with bigger bubble size and less bubble density. The difference in foamy oil behaviour for those two types of heavy oil reservoir is caused by the difference in reservoir pressure, solution GOR, asphaltene content, etc. Cold production presents obvious features of three stages under the action of strong foamy oil displacement mechanism for the middepth heavy oil reservoir, which could achieve a more favourable production performance. In the contrary, no such obvious production characteristics for the shallow heavy oil reservoir are observed due to weaker foamy oil behaviour, and its primary recovery factor is 9.38 percent point lower than which of the middle heavy oil reservoirs.

The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal conversion timing of follow-up thermal recovery approaches of post-CHOP for foamy extraheavy oil reservoirs. The microscopic visualization experiment and the one-dimensional sand pack experiment are conducted to investigate the influence of temperature on the foamy oil cold production process. According to the experimental results, it can be concluded that the temperature has great influence on foamy oil flow stage during the CHOP process. Therefore, it is necessary to study the optimal conversion timing of follow-up thermal recovery approaches after CHOP for the foamy extraheavy oil reservoir. Based on the analysis of the experimental results, the compositional foamy oil model is established by taking the effect of temperature into consideration. In the numerical model, the conversion timings of different thermal recovery approaches are investigated. The optimal conversion timings for cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) and steam flooding (SF) processes are the moments when the pressure drops to the pseudo-bubble point pressure. For the CSS method, excessive pressure cannot give full play to the production potential of CHOP stage; when the pressure is too low, it lacks enough energy to drive the heated crude oil to the wellbore. For the SF method, high pressure cannot fully release the latent heat of steam, and the content of dissolved gas (which will hinder the heat transfer) in oil phase is higher under high pressure, while the very low pressure leads to relatively high viscosity of crude oil; thus, the performance of the SF process becomes worse. For the SAGD process, the adverse effects of released solution gas in foamy extraheavy oil reservoir outweigh the positive effects. As a result, the CHOP period should be extended as long as possible to obtain a high recovery. In other words, the recovery process should be switched to the SAGD process at a relatively low formation pressure. The findings of this study could help for better understanding of the CHOP and post-CHOP thermal techniques for foamy extraheavy oil reservoirs, and it can provide guidance for reservoir engineers to make better use of the thermal recovery techniques to further improve the recovery performance of foamy extraheavy oil reservoirs.

The objective of this study was to reveal the secrets of the unique meat characteristics of Beijing-you chicken (BJY) and to compare the difference of quality and flavor with Luhua chicken (LH) and Arbor Acres broiler (AA) at their typical market ages. The results showed the meat of BJY was richer in essential amino acids, arachidonic acid contents, inosine monophosphate (IMP), and guanosine monophosphate (GMP). The total fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid contents of BJY chicken and LH chicken were lower than that of AA broilers, whereas the ratios of unsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids (2.31) and polyunsaturated fatty acids/monounsaturated fatty acids (1.52) of BJY chicken were the highest. The electronic nose and SPME-GC/MS analysis confirmed the significant differences among these three chickens, and the variety and relative content of aldehydes might contribute to a richer flavor of BJY chicken. The meat characteristics of BJY were fully investigated and showed that BJY chicken might be favored among these three chicken breeds with the best flavor properties and the highest nutritional value. This study also provides an alternative way to identify BJY chicken from other chickens.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of ohmic heating and water bath heating (WB) on the metabolome of Escherichia coli O157:H7 cells at the same inactivation levels. Compared to low voltage long time ohmic heating (5 V/cm, 8.50 min, LVLT) and WB (5.50 min), the high voltage short time ohmic heating (10 V/cm, 1.75 min, HVST) had much shorter heating time. Compared to the samples of control (CT), there were a total of 213 differential metabolites identified, among them, 73, 78, and 62 were presented in HVST, LVLT, and WB samples, revealing a stronger metabolomic response of E. coli cells to HVST and LVLT than WB. KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that the significantly enriched pathways were biosynthesis and metabolism of amino acids (alanine, arginine, aspartate, and glutamate, etc.), followed by aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis among the three treatments. This is the first metabolomic study of E. coli cells in response to ohmic heating and presents an important step toward understanding the mechanism of ohmic heating on microbial inactivation, and can serve as a theoretical basis for better application of ohmic heating in food products.

Based on the recovery feature, oil and gas relative permeability law and driving mechanism of foamy heavy oil reservoirs, inflow performance relationship of horizontal wells in this kind of reservoirs was studied using multi-component numerical simulation and reservoir engineering methods. A dimensionless IPR equation of horizontal wells in foamy heavy oil reservoirs was also presented. Applying foamy oil multi-component numerical simulation, the IPR curve of horizontal wells in foamy heavy oil reservoirs was obtained: when the average formation pressure is high, the right end of the IPR curve is slightly upturned which shows foamy oil characteristics; with the decrease of average formation pressure, the characteristics of conventional solution-gas-drive reservoirs begin to appear. After comparing the dimensionless IPR curve of foamy heavy oil reservoirs with that of conventional solution-gas-drive reservoirs, it was found that: when dimensionless pressure is high, for both of these two kinds of reservoirs, dimensionless pressure and dimensionless oil production basically display linear relationship; when dimensionless pressure is low, the right end of the IPR curve of foamy heavy oil reservoirs is slightly upturned and that of conventional solution-gas-drive reservoirs is downturned. The relative error between the oil production calculated by the dimensionless IPR equation of horizontal wells in foamy heavy oil reservoirs and actual oil production is less than 13%. The formation of new atmospheric aerosol particles and their subsequent growth have been observed under different environmental conditions globally; such observations are few over northwest China. Here, we present an analysis of some case studies for new particle formation (NPF) events from two distinct suburban locations in northern China during May and June of two consecutive years, and provide more information to understand the characteristics of NPF events in North China. Particle number size distribution was measured at suburbs of Beijing (39.75° N, 116.96° E) during 1 June to 2 July 2013 and at suburbs of Xi’an (34.09° N, 108.55° E) during 1 to 25 May 2014. The average of total particle number concentration in the similar size range of 10–487 nm at the suburbs of Beijing (9.0 × 103 cm−3) was about two times higher than those observed at Xi’an (4.7 × 103 cm−3), and the mean particle mode diameter at Beijing was 1.4-fold higher than that at Xi’an. The estimated total condensation sink (CS) at Beijing (3.11 × 10−2 s−1) was also higher than at Xi’an (1.13 × 10−2 s−1). The frequency of NPF events at suburb of Beijing was 24%, lower than that in Xi’an (50%), and also lower than urban site of Beijing (35% in June) and another suburb of Beijing (over 50% in June). The NPF events with (Class I) or without (Class II) subsequent growth were both observed at the two suburb sites. The derived GR at the suburb of Beijing (range from 4.6 to 8.6 nm h−1) was a little higher than that at Xi’an (range from 3.3 to 6.7 nm h−1), which are generally comparable to typical values in mid-latitude reported in previous studies. The air masses coming from north or northwest China favor the occurrence of NPF event under low condensation sink and clear days. The number size distributions of freshly nucleated particles showed clear bimodal distributions on both sites. Additionally, Mode Dp of nucleated particles at the two sites was 17 ± 1 nm and 22 ± 4 nm, respectively during the periods with NPF events. The case study of NPF events at the two suburb sites shows that the surface area concentration and total scattering coefficient (SC) was significant decreased during the NPF events at both sites. High temperature, low condensation sink and low relative humidity furthered the occurrence of NPF events, and wind direction shifts were important for the subsequent growth of particles. NPF events in the suburbs of Beijing usually occurred when relative humidity (RH) < 55%, CS < 0.02 s−1, or 55% < RH < 68%, CS < 0.01 s−1. However, there is no clear range for Xi’an. Furthermore, we observed that some NPF events occurred at higher RH and very low CS in this study on both sites, which means that low CS may be more important than low RH for the particle formation on clear days.
