Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a special class of non-coding RNAs with the ring structure. They are stable, abundant and conservative across mammals. The biogenesis and molecular properties of circRNAs are being elucidated, which exert regulatory functions not only through miRNA and protein sponge, but also via translation and exosomal interaction. Accumulating studies have demonstrated that circRNAs are aberrantly expressed in various diseases, especially in cancer. Glioma is one of the most common malignant cerebral neoplasms with poor prognosis. The accurate diagnosis and effective therapies of glioma have always been challenged, there is an urgent need for developing promising therapeutic intervention. Therefore, exploring novel biomarkers is crucial for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the glioma which can provide better assistance in guiding treatment. Recent findings found that circRNAs are systematically altered in glioma and may play critical roles in glioma tumorigenesis, proliferation, invasion and metastasis. Due to their distinct functional properties, they are considered as the potential therapeutic targets, diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. This review elaborates on current advances towards the biogenesis, translation and interaction of circRNAs in many diseases and focused on the role of their involvement in glioma progression, highlighting the potential value of circRNAs in glioma.

BackgroundMetronidazole (MTZ) is among the first-line drugs against the human gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). MTZ is used as a prodrug that is activated by an oxygen-insensitive enzyme NADPH nitroreductase (RdxA). Loss-of-function mutations in rdxA make H. pylori MTZ resistant; however, experimental proof is lacking.MethodsWe collected 139 gastric biopsy samples from patients suspected of H. pylori infection in Shanghai, and amplified Hp-specific rdxA gene from 134 samples. All these rdxA genes were sequenced and phylogenetically compared. The effect of mutations on RdxA function was measured by expressing them in Escherichia coli DH5α by using the MTZ sensitivity test.ResultsIn total, 134 gastric biopsy samples were identified as H. pylori positive. Of the 134 samples, 74 and 6 had point mutations at the various sites or promoter region of rdxA, generating truncated and extended fused proteins, respectively. The remaining 54 were full-length with single nucleotide variation (SNV) compared with the wild-type RdxA from H. pylori, with 49 clustering with hpEastAsia, 3 with hpEurope, and 2 with hpNEAfrica. All 134 rdxA were expressed in E. coli DH5α; 22 and 112 resultant strains showed MTZ-sensitive and MTZ-resistant phenotypes, respectively. Comparative analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the functional and inactivated RdxA revealed 14 novel mutations in RdxA, 5 of which conferred MTZ resistance: S18F, D59S, L62I, S79N, and A187V.ConclusionThe occurrence of MTZ resistance induced by site-mutation of RdxA in patients with H. pylori infection was 83.6% (112/134) in the Shanghai region. The major form of loss-of-function mutation was truncation of RdxA translation at a rate of 58/112 (51.8%). Molecular detection reliably determined the resistance of H. pylori to MTZ. Thus, the functional mutants involved in MTZ resistance facilitate clinical diagnosis and medication based on sequence analysis.

Abstract Inherited retinal degenerations (IRDs) are a group of untreatable and commonly blinding diseases characterized by progressive photoreceptor loss. IRD pathology has been linked to an excessive activation of cyclic nucleotide-gated channels (CNGC) leading to Na+- and Ca2+-influx, subsequent activation of voltage-gated Ca2+-channels (VGCC), and further Ca2+ influx. However, a connection between excessive Ca2+ influx and photoreceptor loss has yet to be proven. Here, we used whole-retina and single-cell RNA-sequencing to compare gene expression between the rd1 mouse model for IRD and wild-type (wt) mice. Differentially expressed genes indicated links to several Ca2+-signalling related pathways. To explore these, rd1 and wt organotypic retinal explant cultures were treated with the intracellular Ca2+-chelator BAPTA-AM or inhibitors of different Ca2+-permeable channels, including CNGC, L-type VGCC, T-type VGCC, Ca2+-release-activated channel (CRAC), and Na+/Ca2+ exchanger (NCX). Moreover, we employed the novel compound NA-184 to selectively inhibit the Ca2+-dependent protease calpain-2. Effects on the retinal activity of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), sirtuin-type histone-deacetylase, calpains, as well as on activation of calpain-1, and − 2 were monitored, cell death was assessed via the TUNEL assay. While rd1 photoreceptor cell death was reduced by BAPTA-AM, Ca2+-channel blockers had divergent effects: While inhibition of T-type VGCC and NCX promoted survival, blocking CNGCs and CRACs did not. The treatment-related activity patterns of calpains and PARPs corresponded to the extent of cell death. Remarkably, sirtuin activity and calpain-1 activation were linked to photoreceptor protection, while calpain-2 activity was related to degeneration. In support of this finding, the calpain-2 inhibitor NA-184 protected rd1 photoreceptors. These results suggest that Ca2+ overload in rd1 photoreceptors may be triggered by T-type VGCCs and NCX. High Ca2+-levels likely suppress protective activity of calpain-1 and promote retinal degeneration via activation of calpain-2. Overall, our study details the complexity of Ca2+-signalling in photoreceptors and emphasizes the importance of targeting degenerative processes specifically to achieve a therapeutic benefit for IRDs. This paper was concerned with the trajectory tracking control of wheeled mobile robots using aperiodic intermittent control. By establishing the corresponding motion model of the wheeled mobile robot, a tracking control strategy was proposed based on the intermittent control approach and backstepping method. Compared to the controllers using continuous state feedback, the proposed control strategy was activated only on separate time intervals, which combined the features of closed- and open-loop control. An example was given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained result.

Different intelligent devices have different operating systems, data interaction modes and network connection modes, which greatly hinder the realization of the Internet of everything. In view of the above problems, the combination of multi-IP core and Internet of Things application server, and the field programmable door array to improve its response speed, and reduce the system power consumption. Then a set of data communication technology is designed on the basis of Huffman coding to improve the data compression efficiency of the system and adapt to the transmission of various data. The experimental results show that the propagation efficiency of this data communication technology is about 73% on average, and the transmission rate fluctuates between 8MB and 14MB per second, which can reduce the coding time by about 10% compared with the traditional Huffman coding.

Landfilled metallurgical residues are valuable raw materials for the recovery of strategic vanadium resources. However, efficient separation of vanadium from these residues is challenging due to its strong oxidation resistance and coating within silicate inclusions. To address this issue, this study proposes an enhanced leaching process utilizing the synergistic effect of O3-catalyzed ultrasonic field in a low concentration sulfuric acid system. Results show that following a 10-minute O3 and ultrasonic treatment, the direct leaching rate of vanadium experienced a remarkable 46.7 % increase. Quenching experiments revealed a hierarchical order of active species within the reaction process:⋅OH >⋅O2−> H+, with⋅OH oxidation exhibiting the most pronounced capacity for disrupting the inclusion structure. Electron Paramagnetic Resonance analysis indicated that the highest⋅OH yield arose from the combined application of ultrasound and ozone. Kinetic investigations demonstrated that the vanadium leaching process is governed by interfacial chemical reactions. The activation energy of vanadium oxidation leaching under ultrasonic-O3 conditions was determined to be 40.41 kJ/mol, representing a 20.19 % reduction compared to ultrasonic conditions alone. Through the integration of analysis, characterization, and comparative evaluations, it was discerned that the synergistic impact of ultrasonic and ozone treatments significantly enhances the breakdown of silicate inclusions by low-concentration HF, particularly in the conversion of SiOSi bonds into SiOH bonds and SiF bonds. In summary, the refined leaching methodology incorporating ozone catalysis in conjunction with ultrasonic treatment provides a new idea for the separation and extraction of refractory residual vanadium.

IntroductionSclerotinia sclerotiorum is a known pathogen that harms crops and vegetables. Unfortunately, there is a lack of effective biological control measures for this pathogen. Bacillus velezensis 20507 has a strong antagonistic effect on S. Sclerotiorum; however, the biological basis of its antifungal effect is not fully understood.MethodsIn this study, the broad-spectrum antagonistic microorganisms of B. velezensis 20507 were investigated, and the active antifungal ingredients in this strain were isolated, purified, identified and thermal stability experiments were carried out to explore its antifungal mechanism.ResultsThe B. velezensis 20507 genome comprised one circular chromosome with a length of 4,043,341 bp, including 3,879 genes, 185 tandem repeats, 87 tRNAs, and 27 rRNAs. Comparative genomic analysis revealed that our sequenced strain had the closest genetic relationship with Bacillus velezensis (GenBank ID: NC 009725.2); however, there were significant differences in the positions of genes within the two genomes. It is predicted that B. velezensis 20507 encode 12 secondary metabolites, including difficidin, macrolactin H, fengycin, surfactin, bacillibactin, bacillothiazole A-N, butirosin a/b, and bacillaene. Results showed that B. velezensis 20507 produced various antagonistic effects on six plant pathogen strains: Exserohilum turcicum, Pyricularia oryzae, Fusarium graminearum, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Fusarium oxysporum, and Fusarium verticillioides. Acid precipitation followed by 80% methanol leaching is an effective method for isolating the antifungal component ME80 in B. velezensis 20507, which can damage the membranes of S. sclerotiorum hyphae and has good heat resistance. Using high-performance liquid chromatography, and Mass Spectrometry analysis, it is believed that fengycin C72H110N12O20 is the main active antifungal substance.DiscussionThis study provides new resources for the biological control of S. Sclerotiorum in soybeans and a theoretical basis for further clarification of the mechanism of action of B. velezensis 20507.

Abstract High energy‐conversion efficiency (ZT) of thermoelectric materials has been achieved in heavy metal chalcogenides, but the use of toxic Pb or Te is an obstacle for wide applications of thermoelectricity. Here, high ZT is demonstrated in toxic‐element free Ba3BO (B = Si and Ge) with inverse‐perovskite structure. The negatively charged B ion contributes to hole transport with long carrier life time, and their highly dispersive bands with multiple valley degeneracy realize both high p‐type electronic conductivity and high Seebeck coefficient, resulting in high power factor (PF). In addition, extremely low lattice thermal conductivities (κlat) 1.0–0.4 W m−1 K−1 at T = 300–600 K are observed in Ba3BO. Highly distorted O–Ba6 octahedral framework with weak ionic bonds between Ba with large mass and O provides low phonon velocities and strong phonon scattering in Ba3BO. As a consequence of high PF and low κlat, Ba3SiO (Ba3GeO) exhibits rather high ZT = 0.16–0.84 (0.35–0.65) at T = 300–623 K (300–523 K). Finally, based on first‐principles carrier and phonon transport calculations, maximum ZT is predicted to be 2.14 for Ba3SiO and 1.21 for Ba3GeO at T = 600 K by optimizing hole concentration. Present results propose that inverse‐perovskites would be a new platform of environmentally‐benign high‐ZT thermoelectric materials.

Abstract Classic heatstroke (CHS) is a life-threatening illness characterized by extreme hyperthermia, dysfunction of the central nervous system and multiorgan failure. Accurate predictive models are useful in the treatment decision-making process and risk stratification. This study was to develop and externally validate a prediction model of survival for hospitalized patients with CHS. In this retrospective study, we enrolled patients with CHS who were hospitalized from June 2022 to September 2022 at 3 hospitals in Southwest Sichuan (training cohort) and 1 hospital in Central Sichuan (external validation cohort). Prognostic factors were identified utilizing least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis in the training cohort. A predictive model was developed based on identified prognostic factors, and a nomogram was built for visualization. The areas under the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs) and the calibration curve were utilized to assess the prognostic performance of the model in both the training and external validation cohorts. The Kaplan‒Meier method was used to calculate survival rates. A total of 225 patients (median age, 74 [68–80] years) were included. Social isolation, self-care ability, comorbidities, body temperature, heart rate, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), procalcitonin (PCT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and diarrhea were found to have a significant or near-significant association with worse prognosis among hospitalized CHS patients. The AUCs of the model in the training and validation cohorts were 0.994 (95% [CI], 0.975–0.999) and 0.901 (95% [CI], 0.769–0.968), respectively. The model's prediction and actual observation demonstrated strong concordance on the calibration curve regarding 7-day survival probability. According to K‒M survival plots, there were significant differences in survival between the low-risk and high-risk groups in the training and external validation cohorts. We designed and externally validated a prognostic prediction model for CHS. This model has promising predictive performance and could be applied in clinical practice for managing patients with CHS.

Abstract Diazo compounds are rare natural products possessing various biological activities. Kinamycin and lomaiviticin, two diazo natural products featured by the diazobenzofluorene core, exhibit exceptional potency as chemotherapeutic agents. Despite the extensive studies on their biosynthetic gene clusters and the assembly of their polyketide scaffolds, the formation of the characteristic diazo group remains elusive. l-Glutamylhydrazine was recently shown to be the hydrazine donor in kinamycin biosynthesis, however, the mechanism for the installation of the hydrazine group onto the kinamycin scaffold is still unclear. Here we describe an O-methyltransferase-like protein, AlpH, which is responsible for the hydrazine incorporation in kinamycin biosynthesis. AlpH catalyses a unique SAM-independent coupling of l-glutamylhydrazine and polyketide intermediate via a rare Mannich reaction in polyketide biosynthesis. Our discovery expands the catalytic diversity of O-methyltransferase-like enzymes and lays a strong foundation for the discovery and development of novel diazo natural products through genome mining and synthetic biology.

The phyllosphere is an important but underestimated habitat for a variety of microorganisms, with limited knowledge about leaf endophytes as a crucial component of the phyllosphere microbiome. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms of communities and co-occurrence networks of leaf endophytes in response to forest thinning in a temperate forest. As we expected, contrasting responses of fungal and bacterial endophytes were observed. Specifically, the diversity of leaf endophytic fungi and the complexity of their co-occurrence networks increased significantly with thinning intensity, whereas the complexity of endophytic bacterial co-occurrence networks decreased. In particular, microbiota inhabiting damaged leaves seem to be more intensively interacting, showing an evident fungi–bacteria trade-off under forest thinning. In damaged leaves, besides the direct effects of thinning, thinning-induced changes in neighbor tree diversity indirectly altered the diversity of leaf fungal and bacterial endophytes via modifying leaf functional traits such as leaf dry matter content and specific leaf area. These findings provide new experimental evidence for the trade-offs between leaf endophytic fungi and bacteria under the different magnitudes of deforestation, highlighting their dependence on the presence or absence of leaf damage.

We propose a portfolio optimization method with a multi-trend objective and an accelerated quasi-Newton method (MTO-AQNM). It leverages a BFGS-based quasi-Newton algorithm and incorporates an ℓ1 regularization term and the self-funding constraint. The MTO is designed to identify multiple trend reversals. Different trend reversals are asymmetric, and we hoped to extract rich and effective information from them. The AQNM adopts the BFGS method with the Wolfe conditions, which reduces computational complexity and improves convergence speed. We wanted to evaluate the performance of our algorithm through financial markets that were asymmetric in all respects. To this end, we conducted comprehensive experimental approaches on six benchmark data sets of real-world financial markets that were asymmetric in time, frequency, and asset type. Our method demonstrated superior performance over other state-of-the-art competitors across several mainstream evaluation metrics.

Molybdenum selenide (MoSe2) as a nano near-infrared absorber has been widely studied in the field of photothermal therapy of cancer. However, there are few studies on its application in the treatment of ovarian cancer. In this paper, a new type of carbon-coated MoSe2 (MEC) nanoparticle was prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method. MEC was successfully synthesized as avidenced by chemical characterization. A large number of biological experiments confirmed that MEC + Laser group had the lowest cell viability (61.6 % ± 8.9 %), inhibited the proliferation of human ovarian cancer (SKOV-3) cells in G2/M phase, induced apoptosis (apoptosis rate: 43.24 % ± 0.85 %), and increased the intracellular ROS level (93.86 % ± 1.42 %). Furthermore, MEC nanoparticles displayed excellent photothermal therapy in tumor-bearing mice with no obvious side effects on major organs. Finally, the therapeutic mechanism of MEC nanoparticles was explored, and it was found that they had higher absorbance and could generate more heat during laser irradiation, thereby improving their therapeutic effect on ovarian cancer. MEC nanoparticles, as photothermal agents, have good anticancer ability. And they have the potential to become an important candidate for the treatment of ovarian cancer.

Prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) is associated with disease progression, promotion of angiogenesis, invasion, metastasis and immune evasion in cancer. However, its expression pattern and diagnostic and prognostic potential have not been thoroughly analysed from a pan-cancer perspective. This study aimed to examine the effects of PSCA on the prognosis and inflammatory cell infiltration patterns of various cancer types. We analysed the relationship between PSCA expression and immunological subtypes in tumor microenvironment (TME) and the role of molecular subtypes, potentially promising immune biomarkers and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in various cancer types, especially lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). In addition, we investigated the prognostic significance of PSCA expression in LUAD. The co-expression network of PSCA was found to be mainly involved in the regulation of immune responses and antigen processing and expression and was significantly enriched in pathological and substance metabolism-related pathways in cancer. Altogether, this study reveals that PSCA is a promising target for immunotherapy in patients with cancer.

Summary: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the largest intracellular endomembrane system; it shows dynamic changes upon environmental stress. To maintain ER morphology and homeostasis under stress, the excessive ER membrane and the associated unwanted proteins can be removed via ER-phagy. Although a few ER-phagy receptors have been reported in mammals and yeast, their functional counterparts in plants remain largely unexplored. Here, we report that the HVA22 family protein OsHLP1 is an uncharacterized ER-phagy receptor in rice (Oryza sativa L.). OsHLP1 interacts with OsATG8b and recruits ER subdomains and the cargo protein OsNTL6, a negative immune regulator, to autophagosomes upon infection with the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, which substantially activates disease resistance in rice. AtHVA22J, an Arabidopsis thaliana OsHLP1 ortholog, induced similar ER-phagy in plants. Altogether, we unraveled a conservative protein family that may act as ER-phagy receptors in higher plants, and in particular, we highlighted their roles in rice immune responses.

The composite flame retardant composed of aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and organic montmorillonite (OMMT) is of potential application value in the tunnel asphalt pavement. To investigate the effect of ATH and OMMT on the rheological properties of SBS modified asphalt at high and low temperatures. In this study, the composite ATH/OMMT/SBS modified asphalt was subjected to multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR), linear amplitude sweep test (LAS), and Bending beam rheometer (BBR) experiments. Analysis of high and low temperature rheological properties and fatigue properties of composite ATH/OMMT/SBS modified asphalt under the conditions of single incorporation and composite modification. The findings of the tests suggest that ATH can significantly improve the fatigue life but has adverse impact on the creep recovery property of asphalt materials, OMMT has a significant improvement effect on the low-temperature performance, however, the detrimental effect of OMMT on fatigue performance is greater than the improvement of ATH. The research results provide a reference for the practical application of flame retardants.

Substituting petroleum asphalt with bio-asphalt produced by biological waste recycling can mitigate the dependence on non-renewable resource oil. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of bio-asphalt as a substitute for petroleum asphalt by analyzing its rheological properties. Therefore, in this study, modified asphalt was prepared using styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer (SBS), polyphosphoric acid (PPA), and bio-asphalt (BA) as modifiers, and the short-term aging test of the modified asphalt was carried out. Then the rheological properties of the modified asphalt were analyzed through the Temperature Scanning (TS) test, the Multiple Stress Creep Recovery (MSCR) test, and the Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR) test; finally, the Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) test, Fluorescence Microscopy (FM) test to study the modification mechanism and microscopic characteristics of asphalt. The results show that adding BA improved the low-temperature rheological properties of modified asphalt while reducing the high-temperature rheological properties of PPA modified asphalt. The BA, SBS, and PPA combination exhibited excellent performance in high and low-temperature conditions. The short-term aging process enhances the high-temperature rutting resistance of modified asphalt but adversely affects its low-temperature performance. Fluorescence microscopy tests have demonstrated that BA improves the compatibility of SBS and PPA in asphalt. Meanwhile, FTIR has revealed that BA and SBS are physically mixed, and BA and PPA undergo a chemical reaction. This study suggests that BA could be a viable and sustainable alternative to petroleum asphalt, with promising performance characteristics when combined with SBS and PPA modifiers.

Abstract The therapeutic potential of umbilical cord-mesenchymal stem cell (UC-MSC) transplantation in liver fibrosis has been highlighted. However, the fate of transplanted MSCs in the fibrotic microenvironment remains unclear. In this study, we aim to uncover the fate of transplanted MSCs and develop targeting strategies that could enhance the therapeutic efficacy of MSC therapy in liver fibrosis. We used human UC-MSCs as the study object. For in vitro experiments, we stimulated UC-MSCs with several fibrotic-related factors (Liver fibrotic Factors, LF), including TGFβ, TNFα and IFNγ for downstream investigations. We co-cultured LF-treated UC-MSCs with hepatic stellate cell line LX-2 to assess the anti-fibrotic effect. We showed that upon LF stimulation, UC-MSCs exhibited reduced anti-fibrotic activity and underwent rapid senescence. Pathway analysis showed that JAK/STAT3 signaling was highly activated upon LF stimulation, which significantly elevated senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) and senescence in UC-MSCs and could be reversed by a specific JAK inhibitor AG490. Moreover, using both carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and 3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydrocollidine (DDC)-induce fibrosis models, we demonstrated that AG490 pretreatment promoted UC-MSCs survival within the fibrotic liver microenvironment and exhibited enhance therapeutic efficacy. Overall, we showed that targeting MSC senescence in vivo through AG490 pretreatment could enhance the anti-fibrotic activities of UC-MSCs.

Rapid advances in technology have led to an increasing demand for this type of information in the field of cultural heritage and architectural conservation. The article aims to use digital technology to obtain, record, store, and display accurate and intuitive information about architectural heritage for daily management and repair of that heritage. This article conducts a comprehensive and in-depth study of the pathology information from the James Jackson Gymnasium, a typical case of the modern educational architectural heritage of Wuhan. Research contents include obtaining point cloud data through 3D scanning, constructing Building Information Modeling (BIM) 3D models and pathological information models to visualize the affected parts, using the Monument Damage Diagnostic System (MDDS) to establish a pathological information map management system, using virtual simulation technology and digital repair technology to diagnose and repair the affected parts, and establishing a systematic architectural pathology information database to explore the causes of architectural pathology from a multidisciplinary perspective. The authors aim to gradually promote this method and build a systematic pathological information database of architectural heritage. This utilizes the sharing characteristics of information technology to transcend the barriers of time and space and provide important support for heritage protection and pathology management. The Architectural Pathology Information Management System is proposed as an innovative solution to promote the sustainable conservation of architectural heritage through digital technology.

Hedera helix is a traditional medicinal plant. Its primary active ingredients are oleanane-type saponins, which have extensive pharmacological effects such as gastric mucosal protection, autophagy regulation actions, and antiviral properties. However, the glycosylation-modifying enzymes responsible for catalyzing oleanane-type saponin biosynthesis remain unidentified. Through transcriptome, cluster analysis, and PSPG structural domain, this study preliminarily screened four candidate UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs), including Unigene26859, Unigene31717, CL11391.Contig2, and CL144.Contig9. In in vitro enzymatic reactions, it has been observed that Unigene26859 (HhUGT74AG11) has the ability to facilitate the conversion of oleanolic acid, resulting in the production of oleanolic acid 28-O-glucopyranosyl ester. Moreover, HhUGT74AG11 exhibits extensive substrate hybridity and specific stereoselectivity and can transfer glycosyl donors to the C-28 site of various oleanane-type triterpenoids (hederagenin and calenduloside E) and the C-7 site of flavonoids (tectorigenin). Cluster analysis found that HhUGT74AG11 is clustered together with functionally identified genes AeUGT74AG6, CaUGT74AG2, and PgUGT74AE2, further verifying the possible reason for HhUGT74AG11 catalyzing substrate generalization. In this study, a novel glycosyltransferase, HhUGT74AG11, was characterized that plays a role in oleanane-type saponins biosynthesis in H. helix, providing a theoretical basis for the production of rare and valuable triterpenoid saponins.

To enhance the performance and reduce the amount of ester-based lubricants used in weak gel drilling fluids, a shear dynamics simulation under extreme pressure conditions was employed to refine the formulation of the base oil and pressure additives. The simulation results were validated using fatty acid methyl, ethyl, and butyl esters. Fatty acid methyl ester demonstrated the lowest temperature increase and the highest load-bearing capacity post-shear. The four-ball friction test revealed that methyl oleate had a coefficient of friction of 0.0018, approximately a third of that for butyl oleate, confirming the simulation’s accuracy. By using methyl oleate as the base oil and oleamide as the pressure-resistant component, the optimal shear stress was achieved with a 10% addition of oleamide. A lubricant composed of 90% methyl oleate and 10% oleamide was tested and showed a coefficient of friction of 0.03 when 0.5% was added to bentonite slurry, indicating a strong lubricating film. Adding 1% of this lubricant to a low gel drilling fluid system did not affect its rheological properties, and the gel structure remained stable after seven days of aging. Field tests at the Fu86-3 well in the Jiangsu Oilfield of Sinopec confirmed that adding 1% of the ester-based lubricant to the drilling fluid significantly improved drilling efficiency, reduced drag by an average of 33%, and increased the drilling rate to 22.12 m/h. This innovation effectively prevents drilling complications and successfully achieves the objectives of enhancing efficiency.

BackgroundThe relationship between red and processed meat consumption and pancreatic cancer risk is controversial and no study has looked specifically at the correlation for 6 years. We conducted a meta-analysis to summarize the evidence about the association between them.MethodsWe systematically searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library for studies of red or processed meat consumption and pancreatic cancer published from December 2016 to July 2022. We performed random-effects models to pool the relative risks from individual studies. Subgroup analyses were used to figure out heterogeneity. We also performed publication bias analysis.ResultsSeven cohort studies and one case–control study that contained a total of 7,158 pancreatic cancer cases from 805,177 participants were eligible for inclusion. The combined RRs (95% CI) comparing highest and lowest categories were 1.07 (95% CI: 0.91–1.26; p = 0.064) for red meat and 1.04 (95% CI: 0.81–1.33; p = 0.006) for processed meat with statistically significant heterogeneity.ConclusionThis meta-analysis suggested that red and processed meat consumption has no relationship with pancreatic cancer risk.

Accurate soil structure models are crucial references for substation grounding system design. Typically, inversion algorithms are employed to obtain uniform or horizontal layered soil models based on measured apparent resistivity. However, soil resistivity outlier distribution areas can affect the accuracy of these inversion algorithms, particularly when these areas are near the surface. Traditional algorithms do not account for the outlier distribution of soil resistivity, leading to significant discrepancies between the calculated results of the design scheme and actual operation, thereby impacting the safety and economy of the grounding system. Therefore, this paper proposes an inversion method for soil structures with outlier distribution characteristics based on deep belief networks (DBNs). Firstly, we introduce a statistical criterion for identifying the outlier distribution characteristics of soil resistivity. Subsequently, we construct a database of soil models with outlier distribution characteristics to train the DBN. Finally, we verify the inversion accuracy of the optimal DBN using apparent resistivity data measured in a 220 kV substation and the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The results demonstrate that the inversion accuracy of the method proposed in this paper is comparable to that of the traditional method for horizontally layered soil but exhibits a remarkable improvement of approximately 40% when dealing with soil apparent resistivity exhibiting outlier distribution characteristics.

This paper is concerned with the robust finite-time stability and stabilization of impulsive systems subject to hybrid disturbances that consists of external disturbances and hybrid impulses with time-varying jump maps. First, the global finite-time stability and local finite-time stability of a scalar impulsive system are ensured by the analysis of cumulative effect of hybrid impulses. Then, asymptotic stabilization and finite-time stabilization of second-order system subject to hybrid disturbances are achieved by linear sliding-mode control and non-singular terminal sliding-mode control. It shows that the stable systems under control are robust to external disturbances and hybrid impulses with non-destabilizing cumulative effect. If the hybrid impulses have destabilizing cumulative effect, the systems are also capable of absorbing the hybrid impulsive disturbances by the designed sliding-mode control strategies. Finally, the effectiveness of theoretical results is verified by numerical simulation and the tracking control of linear motor.

In this paper, the practical discontinuous control algorithm is used in the tracking controller design for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Although the theory of discontinuous control has been studied intensely, it is seldom applied to the actual systems, which encourages us to spread the discontinuous control algorithm to motor control. Due to the constraints of physical conditions, the input of the system is limited. Hence, we design the practical discontinuous control algorithm for PMSM with input saturation. To achieve the tracking control of PMSM, we define the error variables of the tracking control, and the sliding mode control method is introduced to complete the design of the discontinuous controller. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, the error variables are guaranteed to converge to zero asymptotically, and the tracking control of the system is realized. Finally, the validity of the proposed control method is verified by a simulation example and the experimental platform.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Angelica dahurica is a valuable herb with numerous therapeutic applications for a range of ailments. There have not yet been any articles on the methodical assessment and choice of the best reference genes for A. dahurica gene expression studies. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) is widely employed as the predominant method for investigating gene expression. In order to ensure the precise determination of target gene expression outcomes in RT-qPCR analysis, it is imperative to employ stable reference genes. In this study, a total of 11 candidate reference genes including SAND family protein (SAND), polypyrimidine tract-binding protein (PTBP), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), actin (ACT), TIP41-like protein (TIP41), cyclophilin 2 (CYP2), elongation factor 1 α (EF1α), ubiquitin-protein ligase 9 (UBC9), tubulin β-6 (TUB6), thioredoxin-like protein YLS8 (YLS8), and tubulin-α (TUBA) were selected from the transcriptome of A. dahurica. Subsequently, three statistical algorithms (geNorm, NormFinder, and BestKeeper) were employed to assess the stability of their expression patterns across seven distinct stimulus treatments. The outcomes obtained from these analyses were subsequently amalgamated into a comprehensive ranking using RefFinder. Additionally, one target gene, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), was used to confirm the effectiveness of the selected reference genes. According to the findings of this study, the two most stable reference genes for normalizing the expression of genes in A. dahurica are TIP41 and UBC9. Overall, our research has determined the appropriate reference genes for RT-qPCR in A. dahurica and provides a crucial foundation for gene screening and identifying genes associated with the biosynthesis of active ingredients in A. dahurica.

ABSTRACT Recent advances in viromics have led to the discovery of a great diversity of RNA viruses and the identification of a large number of viral pathogens. A systematic exploration of viruses in Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), one of the most important aquatic commercial species, is still lacking. Here, we characterized the RNA viromes of asymptomatic, milky disease (MD)-affected, and hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome (HPNS)-affected Chinese mitten crabs collected from 3 regions in China. In total, we identified 31 RNA viruses belonging to 11 orders, 22 of which were first reported here. By comparing viral composition between samples, we observed high variation in viral communities across regions, with most of the viral species being region-specific. We proposed to establish several novel viral families or genera based on the phylogenetic relationships and genome structures of viruses discovered in this study, expanding our knowledge of viral diversity in brachyuran crustaceans. IMPORTANCE High-throughput sequencing and meta-transcriptomic analysis provide us with an efficient tool to discover unknown viruses and explore the composition of viral communities in specific species. In this study, we investigated viromes in asymptomatic and diseased Chinese mitten crabs collected from three distant locations. We observed high regional variation in the composition of viral species, highlighting the importance of multi-location sampling. In addition, we classified several novel and ICTV-unclassified viruses based on their genome structures and phylogenetic relationships, providing a new perspective on current viral taxa.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a serious complication of cirrhosis. Currently, non-selective beta-blockers (NSBBs) are commonly used to treat portal hypertension in patients with cirrhosis. The latest research shows that NSBBs can induce apoptosis and S-phase arrest in liver cancer cells and inhibit the development of hepatic vascular endothelial cells, which may be effective in preventing HCC in cirrhosis patients.Aim: To determine the relationship between different NSBBs and HCC incidence in patients with cirrhosis.Methods: We searched the Cochrane database, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PubMed, and Web of Science. Cohort studies, case‒control studies, and randomized controlled trials were included if they involved cirrhosis patients who were divided into an experimental group using NSBBs and a control group with any intervention. Based on heterogeneity, we calculated odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) using random-effect models. We also conducted subgroup analysis to explore the source of heterogeneity. Sensitivity analysis and publication bias detection were performed.Results: A total of 47 studies included 38 reporting HCC incidence, 26 reporting HCC-related mortality, and 39 reporting overall mortality. The HCC incidence between the experimental group and the control group was OR = 0.87 (0.69 and 1.10), p = 0.000, and I2 = 81.8%. There was no significant association between propranolol (OR = 0.94 and 95%CI 0.62–1.44) or timolol (OR = 1.32 and 95%CI 0.44–3.95) and HCC incidence, while the risk of HCC decreased by 26% and 38% with nadolol (OR = 0.74 and 95%CI 0.64–0.86) and carvedilol (OR = 0.62 and 95%CI 0.52–0.74), respectively.Conclusion: Different types of NSBB have different effects on the incidence of patients with cirrhosis of the liver, where nadolol and carvedilol can reduce the risk. Also, the effect of NSBBs may vary in ethnicity. Background and aims: Hypoglycemic agents are the primary therapeutic approach for the treatment of diabetes and have been postulated to impact pancreatic cancer (PC) incidence in diabetic patients. We conducted a meta-analysis to further evaluate and establish the associations between four common types of hypoglycemic agents [metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones (TZDs), and insulin] and PC incidence in individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM).Methods: A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library identified studies that analyzed the relationship between hypoglycemic agents and PC published between January 2012 and September 2022. Randomized control trials (RCTs), cohorts, and case–control studies were included if there was clear and evaluated defined exposure to the involved hypoglycemic agents and reported PC outcomes in patients with DM. Furthermore, reported relative risks or odds ratios (ORs) or other provided data were required for the calculation of odds ratios. Summary odds ratio estimates with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated using the random-effects model. Additionally, subgroup analysis was performed to figure out the source of heterogeneity. Sensitivity analysis and publication bias detection were also performed.Results: A total of 11 studies were identified that evaluated one or more of the hypoglycemic agents, including three case–control studies and eight cohort studies. Among these, nine focused on metformin, six on sulfonylureas, seven on TZDs, and seven on insulin. Meta-analysis of the 11 observational studies reported no significant association between metformin (OR = 1.04, 95% CI 0.73–1.46) or TZDs (OR = 1.13, 95% CI 0.73–1.75) and PC incidence, while the risk of PC increased by 79% and 185% with sulfonylureas (OR = 1.79, 95% CI 1.29–2.49) and insulin (OR = 2.85, 95% CI 1.75–4.64), respectively. Considerable heterogeneity was observed among the studies and could not be fully accounted for by study design, region, or adjustment for other hypoglycemic agents.Conclusion: Sulfonylureas and insulin may increase the incidence of pancreatic cancer in diabetic patients, with varying effects observed among different ethnicities (Asian and Western). Due to significant heterogeneity across studies, further interpretation of the relationship between hypoglycemic agents and pancreatic cancer incidence in diabetic patients requires well-adjusted data and better-organized clinical trials.

In recent years, the use of inertial measurement unit (IMU)-based motion capture (Mocap) systems in rehabilitation has grown significantly. This paper aimed to provide an overview of current IMU-based Mocap system designs in the field of rehabilitation, explore the specific applications and implementation of these systems, and discuss potential future developments considering sensor limitations. For this review, a systematic literature search was conducted using Scopus, IEEE Xplore, PubMed, and Web of Science from 2013 to 2022. A total of 65 studies were included and analyzed based on their rehabilitation application, target population, and system deployment and measurement. The proportion of rehabilitation assessment, training, and both were 82%, 12%, and 6% respectively. The results showed that primary focus of the studies was stroke that was one of the most commonly studied pathological disease. Additionally, general rehabilitation without targeting a specific pathology was also examined widely, with a particular emphasis on gait analysis. The most common sensor configuration for gait analysis was two IMUs measuring spatiotemporal parameters of the lower limb. However, the lack of training applications and upper limb studies could be attributed to the limited battery life and sensor drift. To address this issue, the use of low-power chips and low-consumption transmission pathways was a potential way to extend usage time for long-term training. Furthermore, we suggest the development of a highly integrated multi-modal system with sensor fusion.

Abstract LCL grid‐connected inverter is good at suppressing the high frequency current, but the inherent resonance frequency of the filter will lead to the resonance peak. Therefore, the active damping is commonly used to suppress the resonance effect. Since the weighted average current control can provide better bandwidth for the system with high frequency and has the characteristics of system reduction, it is often used to replace the traditional dual‐loop current control in the application of LCL grid‐connected inverter. However, the reduction of current resonance peak at the grid side by the weighted average current control is limited, so it is necessary to combine the grid voltage and capacitor current feedback loop to achieve the ideal results. In weak grid, the newly added feedback path would easily lead to the loss of system reduction, which results in the existence of transient variables in the transfer function affecting the stability of the control strategy. To solve this technical problem, this paper addresses a new control method of LCL grid‐connected inverter based on weighted average current control. By adding a capacitor current feedback path, pole‐zero cancellation of the control system is realised as to reduce the systematic order and improve the robustness of the controller under the time‐varying weak grid.

Ophiocordyceps sinensis is a fungus with medicinal value in treating lung diseases, but no study has reported how to prevent acute lung injury using this fungus. The mice were divided into normal, model, positive control, and O. sinensis groups to observe lung histopathological sections and transmission electron microscopy, along with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining to closely identify structural differences resulting from destruction between the groups. The results of the H&E staining showed that, compared with the normal group, the model group showed alveolar collapse. Compared with the model group, the infiltration of inflammatory cells in the alveolar cavity of the O. sinensis group was significantly reduced. Mitochondrial plate-like cristae were observed in type II alveolar cells of the normal group, with normal coloration of the mitochondrial matrix. Type II alveolar cells in the model group showed obvious edema. The statuses of type II alveolar cells in the O. sinensis and positive groups were similar to that in the normal group. Twenty-nine biomarkers and 10 related metabolic pathways were identified by serum metabolomics screening. The results showed that O. sinensis mycelia had a significant effect on the prevention of lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation.

ABSTRACT The giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, is an important aquaculture species in China. Growth retardation disease (GRD) is a common contagious disease in M. rosenbergii, resulting in slow growth and precocious puberty in prawns, and has caused growing economic losses in the M. rosenbergii industry. To investigate the viral diversity of M. rosenbergii and identify potentially high-risk viruses linked to GRD, virome analysis of the GRD-affected and normal M. rosenbergii was carried out using next-generation sequencing (NGS). A total of 327 contigs (>500 bp) were related to viral sequences belonging to 23 families/orders and a group of unclassified viruses. The majority of the viral contigs in M. rosenbergii belonged to the order Picornavirales, with the Solinviviridae family being the most abundant in both the diseased and normal groups. Furthermore, 16 RNA viral sequences with nearly complete genomes were characterized and phylogenetically analyzed, belonging to the families Solinviviridae, Flaviviridae, Polycipiviridae, Marnaviridae, and Dicistroviridae as well as three new clades of the order Picornavirales. Notably, the cross-species transmission of a picorna-like virus was observed between M. rosenbergii and plants. The “core virome” seemed to be present in the diseased and normal prawns. Still, a clear difference in viral abundance was observed between the two groups. These results showed that the broad diversity of viruses is present in M. rosenbergii and that the association between viruses and disease of M. rosenbergii needs to be further investigated. IMPORTANCE Growth retardation disease (GRD) has seriously affected the development and economic growth of the M. rosenbergii aquaculture industry. Our virome analysis showed that diverse viral sequences were present in M. rosenbergii, significantly expanding our knowledge of viral diversity in M. rosenbergii. Some differences in viral composition were noted between the diseased and normal prawns, indicating that some viruses become more abundant in occurrences or outbreaks of diseases. In the future, more research will be needed to determine which viruses pose a risk for M. rosenbergii. Our study provides important baseline information contributing to disease surveillance and risk assessment in M. rosenbergii aquaculture.

The presence of β-glucan in barley grains is one of its important quality traits. Lower β-glucan content is required for the barley used in beer and feed production, while higher β-glucan content is beneficial for food barley. Although intensive research has been carried out on the genotypic and environmental differences in β-glucan content in barley grains, little information is available on the molecular mechanisms underlying their genotypic differences and genetic regulation of β-glucan synthesis and accumulation. In this study, RNA sequencing analysis was conducted to compare the transcriptome profiles of two barley genotypes (BCS192 and BCS297) that greatly differ in grain β-glucan content, in order to identify the key genes responsible for β-glucan synthesis and accumulation during grain development. The results showed that carbohydrate metabolic processes and starch and sucrose metabolism play significant roles in β-glucan synthesis. The identified differently expressed genes (DEGs), which are closely associated with grain β-glucan content, are mainly involved in hydrolase activity and glucan metabolic processes. In addition, β-glucan accumulation in barley grains is predominantly regulated by photosynthesis and carbon metabolism. The DEGs identified in this study and their functions may provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms of β-glucan synthesis and genotypic differences in barley grains.

Ginling College is the first women’s college founded by the American Christian Church in Nanjing, China, in the early 20th century. The architectural style of the school reflects the orientation of the “Chinese localization” of the Christian Church at that time. It is a representative work of the revival of traditional Chinese architecture. It is known as a “Renaissance of Chinese traditional architecture” and profoundly influenced later generations. Due to its important historical status and artistic value, the Ginling College complex has been designated by the Chinese government as a national key cultural relic protection unit and China’s 20th-century architectural heritage, and the protection scope of the Ginling College historical district has been specially designated for overall protection. Currently, little research has been conducted on this historic area, so the authors undertook this project. This paper adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods for research, starting from the two aspects of architectural art and sustainable design, and analyzes in detail the artistic characteristics of the project, the structural materials obtained locally, and the sustainable design method that utilizes natural lighting and ventilation to explore a modern campus design method based on the concept of sustainable design with a “combination of Chinese and Western architectural art”. Through artistic creation and technological innovation, traditional Chinese revival architecture has realized a harmonious coexistence between man and nature, embodying the design concept of sustainable development, and promoting the development of architecture and the region.

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a promising technique to resist the threat against quantum computers. However, the high loss of quantum signals over a long-distance optical fiber is an obstacle for QKD in the intercontinental domain. In this context, the quantum satellite network is preferred over the terrestrial quantum optical network. Due to the mobility of satellites, the satellite topology is dynamic in the quantum satellite network, which remains a challenge for routing. In hybrid geostationary-earth-orbit (GEO)/low-earth-orbit (LEO) quantum satellite networks, the lack of an efficient scheduling scheme for GEO/LEO satellites also limits the construction of quantum satellite networks. Therefore, this paper provides a topology abstraction-based routing scheme for secret-key provisioning, where the dynamic physical topology is translated into a quasi-static abstracted topology. This scheme contributes to saving the precious secret key resources. In order to improve the success probability of long-distance QKD requests, three novel resource-scheduling heuristic algorithms are proposed in hybrid GEO/LEO quantum satellite networks. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithms can improve the success probability of QKD requests by 47% compared to the benchmark.

Resource, environmental, and ecological issues have become major constraints to the development of many regions. The Yellow River Basin is an important barrier for maintaining ecological security in northern China, but it has been impacted by problems such as severe soil erosion and declining biodiversity. The rational construction of ecological security patterns is important to enhance ecosystem functions and maintain regional ecological security. In this study, a comprehensive ecological security assessment system was constructed by selecting ecosystem service importance, ecological sensitivity, and landscape connectivity to assess the ecological security of Xiliu Ditch, an ecologically fragile region of the Inner Mongolia section of the Yellow River Basin in China. The assessment results showed significant spatial heterogeneity, with medium- and low-security value areas dominating, while high-security value areas accounted for only 18.7% of the study area. Seventeen ecological sources were identified from the high-security areas, which were mainly composed of grassland, woodland, and water bodies, most of which are distributed in the southern part of the study area. Twenty ecological corridors were selected by the minimum cumulative resistance model and gravity model and classified into 15 construction corridors and 5 potential corridors. Forty-six ecological nodes were defined, including twenty strategic points, nine potential strategic points, and seventeen break points. On this basis, we constructed an ecological security pattern of “two belts, three cores, six zones, multiple corridors and multiple nodes” and proposed corresponding ecological governance measures. This study explores the ecological security pattern at the small watershed scale, which helps to realize the fine management of the Xiliu Ditch basin and, on this basis, can provide scientific support for the ecological protection and sustainable development of the Yellow River basin. In addition, the ecological security assessment system proposed in this study can provide new ideas for the construction of ecological security patterns in similar ecologically fragile areas around the globe.

Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) is a high-impact pathogen in shrimp farming, causing huge economic losses to the global shrimp farming industry every year. However, current EHP detection methods are primarily based on the development of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques that rely on sophisticated and expensive instruments. Consequently, a rapid, practical, and sensitive protocol for the detection of EHP is necessary. Recombinase polymerase amplification combined with a lateral flow dipstick (LFD-RPA) assay was developed using a pair of primers and nfo-probe targeting the conserved region of the spore wall protein gene. Under optimized reaction conditions, the LFD-RPA assay can detect 10 copies/μL of standard plasmid within 20 min at 40°C. Furthermore, the specificity of the LFD-RPA was also verified with other common pathogens of shrimp. Thirty-nine samples of Litopenaeus vannamei were collected in shrimp farms and detected using LFD-RPA and nested PCR. Thirty-two positive samples were detected by LFD-RPA. Compared with those of nested PCR, the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of LFD-RPA were 100% and 100%, respectively. These results indicated the great application potential of the newly developed LFD-RPA assay for point-of-care diagnosis, epidemic surveillance, and epidemiological investigation of EHP.

The proportion of pregnant women giving birth through cesarean section is increasing annually worldwide. However, post-cesarean section scar diverticulum is a common condition that occurs and requires better surgical strategies than the methods currently used. We hypothesized that using biological lubricant topically on the incision area during C-section could be an option to minimize the scar. This water-based polyethylene glycol (PEG)/chitosan (CS) composite lubricant was prepared via ultrasonic blending. The product was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The thermal stability of the materials and their heat absorption and release during heating were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Tribological tests proved that the PEG/CS composite had a better lubrication effect than either the PEG or CS lubricant alone, and the cell viability experiments verified that it had good biocompatibility. Finally, application of the composite lubricant onto the backs of mice modeling full-thickness skin incisions further confirmed that the product improved both the re-epithelialization and the collagen levels of the wounded skin. In conclusion, we expect our newly formulated PEG/CS composite lubricant to be useful not only for managing post-cesarean section scar diverticulum but also for healing skin wounds in general.

Drought restricts the growth of alpine grassland vegetation. This study aimed to explore a new technical system to improve the drought resistance of forage grass. Qinghai cold-land Poa pratensis seedlings were used in the drought stress experiment. A combination of abscisic acid (ABA) and polyacrylamide (PAM) were used to affect the growth, leaf physiology, soil enzyme activity, and rhizosphere microbial diversity of P. pratensis. The fresh leaf weight and root surface area were significantly increased after ABA-PAM combined treatment, while root length was significantly reduced. Besides, the leaf catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activity, proline and chlorophyll content, increased after the treatment, while malondialdehyde (MDA) content decreased. The treatment also increased sucrase, urease, and alkaline protease activities in rhizosphere soil, while decreasing acid phosphatase and neutral phosphatase enzyme activities. ABA-PAM combined treatment enhanced the rhizosphere microbial community and forage drought resistance by altering the abundance of various dominant microorganisms in the rhizosphere soil. The relative abundances of Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi, and Acidobacteria decreased, while Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Ascomycota increased. Unlike the relative abundance of Gibberella that decreased significantly, Komagataeibacter, Lactobacillus, Pichia, and Dekkera were significantly increased. Single-factor collinearity network analysis revealed a close relationship between the different rhizosphere microbial communities of forage grass, after ABA-PAM treatment. This study implies that ABA-PAM combined treatment can improve the drought resistance of forages. Therefore, it provides a theoretical and practical basis for restoring drought-induced grassland degradation.

Nanoparticles that contact human cells without damaging basic human tissues are becoming more widely used in medicine. Efficient delivery to the intracellular target cell or compartment through the cell membrane must be achieved with minimal cytotoxicity to healthy cells. Fe3O4 nanoparticles have been widely used in biomedical research for their magnetic, non-toxic, and biocompatible properties. However, the effects of Fe3O4 nanoparticles coated with chitosan (CS) on gynecological cells are unclear. In this study, the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were coated with CS to enhance their cytocompatibility and dispersion in water. These CS-Fe3O4 nanoparticles were taken up by gynecological cells and did not affect cell viability in vitro. They have greater cytocompatibility in acidic environments than normal Fe3O4 nanoparticles and have the potential for drug delivery into gynecological cells.

Dried green pepper and first-grade extracted soybean oil were selected as raw materials to study the effect of the Maillard reaction and cold-pressed compound on the quality of Zanthoxylum seasoning oil and its aroma-enhancing effect. The results showed that the optimal technology was as follows: the ratio of material to liquid was 1:5, the heating temperature was 110 °C, the reaction time was 25 or 30 min, and the addition of reducing sugar was 2%. The optimum ratio of fragrant Zanthoxylum seasoning oil was 1:7 for cold pressing oil and hot dipping oil. Compared with Zanthoxylum seasoning oil, it is based on the Maillard reaction and had a more intense and persistent aroma. The taste of fragrant Zanthoxylum seasoning oil was the best of the three blended oils. The possible types of volatile flavor compounds in the three kinds of Zanthoxylum seasoning oils detected by Heracles II ultra-fast gas phase electronic nose were, respectively, 16, 19, and 15. Among the three kinds of Zanthoxylum seasoning oils, the content of limonene, linalool, Eucalyptol, n-pentane α-Pinene, myrcene, and phellandrene was more abundant, which indicated that olefins and alcohols contributed more to the overall flavor of the three kinds of Zanthoxylum seasoning oils.

Dolphin signals are effective carriers for underwater covert detection and communication. However, the environmental and cost constraints terribly limit the amount of data available in dolphin signal datasets are often limited. Meanwhile, due to the low computational power and resource sensitivity of Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), current methods for real-time generation of dolphin signals with favorable results are still subject to several challenges. To this end, a Masked AutoEncoder Generative Adversarial Network (MAE-GAN) model is hereby proposed. First, considering the few-shot condition, the dataset is extended by using data augmentation techniques. Then, to meet the low arithmetic constraint, a denoising autoencoder with a mask is used to obtain latent codes through self-supervised learning. These latent codes are then utilized in Conditional Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network-Gradient Penalty (CWGAN-GP) to generate a whistle signal model for the target dataset, fully demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method for enhancing dolphin signal generation in data-limited scenarios. The whistle signals generated by the MAE-GAN and baseline models are compared with actual dolphin signals, and the findings indicate that the proposed approach achieves a discriminative score of 0.074, which is 28.8% higher than that of the current state-of-the-art techniques. Furthermore, it requires only 30.2% of the computational resources of the baseline model. Overall, this paper presents a novel approach to generating high-quality dolphin signals in data-limited situations, which can also be deployed on low-resource devices. The proposed MAE-GAN methods provide a promising solution to address the challenges of limited data and computational power in generating dolphin signals.

Macrophage pyroptosis drives the secretion of IL-1β, which has been recently reported to be a featured salivary biomarker for discriminating periodontitis in the presence of diabetes. This study aimed to explore whether macrophage pyroptosis plays a role in the development of diabetes mellitus–periodontitis, as well as potential therapeutic strategies. By establishing a model of experimental diabetes mellitus–periodontitis in rats, we found that IL-1β and gasdermin D were highly expressed, leading to aggravated destruction of periodontal tissue. MCC950, a potent and selective molecule inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome, effectively inhibited macrophage pyroptosis and attenuated alveolar bone losses in diabetes mellitus–periodontitis. Consistently, in vitro, high glucose could induce macrophage pyroptosis and thus promoted IL-1β production in macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharide. In addition, autophagy blockade by high glucose via the mTOR-ULK1 pathway led to severe oxidative stress response in macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharide. Activation of autophagy by rapamycin, clearance of mitochondrial ROS by mitoTEMPO, and inhibition of inflammasome by MCC950 could significantly reduce macrophage pyroptosis and IL-1β secretion. Our study demonstrates that hyperglycemia promotes IL-1β production and pyroptosis in macrophages suffered by periodontal microbial stimuli. Modulation of autophagy activity and specific targeting of the ROS-inflammasome pathway may offer promising therapeutic strategies to alleviate diabetes mellitus–periodontitis.

Rice seed variety purity, an important index for measuring rice seed quality, has a great impact on the germination rate, yield, and quality of the final agricultural products. To classify rice varieties more efficiently and accurately, this study proposes a multimodal l fusion detection method based on an improved voting method. The experiment collected eight common rice seed types. Raytrix light field cameras were used to collect 2D images and 3D point cloud datasets, with a total of 3194 samples. The training and test sets were divided according to an 8:2 ratio. The experiment improved the traditional voting method. First, multiple models were used to predict the rice seed varieties. Then, the predicted probabilities were used as the late fusion input data. Next, a comprehensive score vector was calculated based on the performance of different models. In late fusion, the predicted probabilities from 2D and 3D were jointly weighted to obtain the final predicted probability. Finally, the predicted value with the highest probability was selected as the final value. In the experimental results, after late fusion of the predicted probabilities, the average accuracy rate reached 97.4%. Compared with the single support vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighbors (kNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), MobileNet, and PointNet, the accuracy rates increased by 4.9%, 8.3%, 18.1%, 8.3%, and 9%, respectively. Among the eight varieties, the recognition accuracy of two rice varieties, Hannuo35 and Yuanhan35, by applying the voting method improved most significantly, from 73.9% and 77.7% in two dimensions to 92.4% and 96.3%, respectively. Thus, the improved voting method can combine the advantages of different data modalities and significantly improve the final prediction results.

Abstract Tin mono‐selenide (SnSe) exhibits the world record of thermoelectric conversion efficiency ZT in the single crystal form, but the performance of polycrystalline SnSe is restricted by low electronic conductivity (σ) and high thermal conductivity (κ), compared to those of the single crystal. Here an effective strategy to achieve high σ and low κ simultaneously is reported on p‐type polycrystalline SnSe with isovalent Te ion substitution. The nonequilibrium Sn(Se1−xTex) solid solution bulks with x up to 0.4 are synthesized by the two‐step process composed of high‐temperature solid‐state reaction and rapid thermal quenching. The Te ion substitution in SnSe realizes high σ due to the 103‐times increase in hole carrier concentration and effectively reduced lattice κ less than one‐third at room temperature. The large‐size Te ion in Sn(Se1−xTex) forms weak SnTe bonds, leading to the high‐density formation of hole‐donating Sn vacancies and the reduced phonon frequency and enhanced phonon scattering. This result—doping of large‐size ions beyond the equilibrium limit—proposes a new idea for carrier doping and controlling thermal properties to enhance the ZT of polycrystalline SnSe.

The development of p-type oxide semiconductors is challenging owing to the localized nature of the valence band maximum (VBM), which primarily comprises O 2p orbitals. Although some Sn2+-based pyrochlore-type oxides (A2B2O7) with VBMs comprising spatially spread Sn 5s orbitals show p-type semiconducting properties, these properties cannot be tuned by an intentional chemical doping owing to the instability of their valence states. Herein, the influence of chemical doping on the crystal structure and electrical properties of Bi2Sn2O7, whose VBM is composed of valence-stable ions with Bi 6s orbitals, in the VBM is investigated. X-ray absorption spectroscopy reveals that In3+ is doped substitutionally at the Sn4+ site. Although the doped In3+ ions are expected to act as acceptors, their electrical properties always show n-type character. Simultaneously, extended X-ray absorption fine structure reveals the formation of oxygen vacancies in BiOBi bonds contributing to the VBM, whereas negligible changes are observed in the SnO6 octahedra, suggesting that the generated holes are electrically compensated by electrons because of the oxygen vacancies. P-type electric properties can be observed under oxidizing conditions, providing a critical design concept for the realization of hole conduction in acceptor-doped Bi2Sn2O7.

Active sonar systems are one of the most commonly used acoustic devices for underwater equipment. They use observed signals, which mainly include target echo signals and reverberation, to detect, track, and locate underwater targets. Reverberation is the primary background interference for active sonar systems, especially in shallow sea environments. It is coupled with the target echo signal in both the time and frequency domain, which significantly complicates the extraction and analysis of the target echo signal. To combat the effect of reverberation, an attention and cepstrum analysis-guided network (ACANet) is proposed. The baseline system of the ACANet consists of a one-dimensional (1D) convolutional module and a reconstruction module. These are used to perform nonlinear mapping and to reconstruct clean spectrograms, respectively. Then, since most underwater targets contain multiple highlights, a cepstrum analysis module and a multi-head self-attention module are deployed before the baseline system to improve the reverberation suppression performance for multi-highlight targets. The systematic evaluation demonstrates that the proposed algorithm effectively suppresses the reverberation in observed signals and greatly preserves the highlight structure. Compared with NMF methods, the proposed ACANet no longer requires the target echo signal to be low-rank. Thus, it can better suppress the reverberation in multi-highlight observed signals. Furthermore, it demonstrates superior performance over NMF methods in the task of reverberation suppression for single-highlight observed signals. It creates favorable conditions for underwater platforms, such as unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), to carry out underwater target detection and tracking tasks.

Abstract Introducing artificial strain in epitaxial thin films is an effective strategy to alter electronic structures of transition metal oxides (TMOs) and to induce novel phenomena and functionalities not realized in bulk crystals. This study reports a breaking of the conventional trade‐off relation in thermopower (S)–conductivity (σ) and demonstrates a 2 orders of magnitude enhancement of power factor (PF) in compressively strained LaTiO3 (LTO) films. By varying substrates and reducing film thickness down to 4 nm, the out‐of‐plane to the in‐plane lattice parameter ratio is controlled from 0.992 (tensile strain) to 1.034 (compressive strain). This tuning induces the electronic structure change from a Mott insulator to a metal and leads to a 103‐fold increase in σ up to 2920 S cm−1. Concomitantly, the sign of S inverts from positive to negative, and both σ and S increase and break the trade‐off relation between them in the n‐type region. As a result, the PF (=S2σ) is significantly enhanced to 300 µW m−1K−2, which is 102 times larger than that of bulk LTO. Present results propose epitaxial strain as a means to finely tune strongly correlated TMOs close to their Mott transition, and thus to harness the hidden large thermoelectric PF.
