The analysis of natural fracture development characteristics is crucial for evaluating deep shale gas exploration and development. It provides valuable insights for assessing reservoir quality comprehensively and designing fracturing strategies differentially. This study focused on the deep shale of the Wufeng-Longmaxi formations in Luzhou area of southern Sichuan Basin (hereinafter referred to as southern Sichuan). Using core analysis, horizontal well imaging logging and seismic data, this study systematically investigated aspects such as descriptions of core natural fractures, development characteristics of horizontal well imaging logging, and the correlation between natural fractures in horizontal wells and seismically predicted fracture zones. The results show that horizontal well imaging logging can accurately identify three types of natural fractures: high-conductivity fractures, high-resistance fractures, and micro-faults. The fracture orientations identified by horizontal wells align with the direction of the current maximum horizontal principal stress, with fracture dip distribution patterns similar to those observed in vertical evaluation wells in the same structural positions. Seismically predicted fracture zones control the development of core-scale natural fractures identified through imaging logging. The influence distances of medium-intensity curvature body fracture zones, low-intensity curvature body fracture zones, and ant-track fracture zones on core-scale fractures are 110, 80, and 30-50 m, respectively. The Luzhou area's core-scale natural fractures exhibit "double-high" characteristics (high dip angle and high degree of calcite filling). The revealed correlations between the deve-lopment characteristics of core-scale natural fractures in horizontal wells, vertical well sections and seismic fracture zones serve as valuable references for the fine characterization of natural fractures, reservoir classification evaluation and differential fracturing technology testing of marine shale in southern Sichuan.

Abstract With the increasing trend of global aging, sarcopenia has become a significant public health issue. Goji berry, also known as “Gou qi zi” in China, is a traditional Chinese herb that can enhance the structure and function of muscles and bones. Otherwise, previous excellent publications illustrated that plant-derived exosome-like nanoparticles can exert good bioactive functions in different aging or disease models. Thus, we issued the hypothesis that Gouqi-derived nanovesicles (GqDNVs) may also have the ability to improve skeletal muscle health, though the effect and its mechanism need to be explored. Hence, we have extracted GqDNVs from fresh berries of Lycium barbarum L. (goji) and found that the contents of GqDNVs are rich in saccharides and lipids. Based on the pathway annotations and predictions in non-targeted metabolome analysis, GqDNVs are tightly associated with the pathways in metabolism. In muscle atrophy model mice, intramuscular injection of GqDNVs improves the cross-sectional area of the quadriceps muscle, grip strength and the AMPK/SIRT1/PGC1α pathway expression. After separately inhibiting AMPK or PGC1α in C2C12 cells with dexamethasone administration, we have found that the activated AMPK plays the chief role in improving cell proliferation induced by GqDNVs. Furthermore, the energy-targeted metabolome analysis in the quadriceps muscle demonstrates that the GqDNVs up-regulate the metabolism of amino sugar and nucleotide sugar, autophagy and oxidative phosphorylation process, which indicates the activation of muscle regeneration. Besides, the Spearman rank analysis shows close associations between the quality and function of skeletal muscle, metabolites and expression levels of AMPK and SIRT1. In this study, we provide a new founding that GqDNVs can improve the quality and function of skeletal muscle accompanying the activated AMPK/SIRT1/PGC1α signaling pathway. Therefore, GqDNVs have the effect of anti-aging skeletal muscle as a potential adjuvant or complementary method or idea in future therapy and research. Graphical Abstract

BackgroundMyopia, strabismus, and ptosis are common pediatric eye diseases, which have a negative impact on children and adolescents in terms of visual function, mental health, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Therefore, this study focused on those pediatric eye diseases by analyzing their risk factors and HRQoL for the comprehensive management of myopia, strabismus, and ptosis.MethodsA total of 363 participants (2–18 years old) were included in this study for risk factors analysis of myopia, strabismus, and ptosis. We collected demographic characteristics, lifestyle habits and eye care habits of these children and analyzed them by using univariable and multivariable logistic regression. In addition, we applied the Chinese version of Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory-Version 4.0 (PedsQL 4.0) to assess HRQoL in 256 children with strabismus and ptosis. Univariable and multivariable linear regression models were applied to evaluate potential influencing factors of HRQoL.ResultsOf all the participants, 140 had myopia, 127 had strabismus, and 145 had ptosis. Based on the multivariable logistic regression analysis model, we found that the history of parental myopia and daily average near-distance eye usage time were risk factors for myopia, and increased body mass index (BMI) was identified as a risk factor for strabismus and ptosis. Individuals with ptosis possessed decreased HRQoL. The multivariable linear regression model suggested that daily average near-distance eye usage time, light intensity during visual tasks, and daily average sleep duration had potential influences on HRQoL.ConclusionThis is the first study to assess the risk factors and HRQoL of myopia, strabismus, and ptosis together. We identified risk factors for these common pediatric eye diseases to help doctors, parents, and teachers better manage them. Our study discovered that children with eye disorders exhibit a notably diminished HRQoL. Consequently, it emphasizes the necessity for increased social attention and mental health assistance for these children.

This paper presents a new fabrication method utilizing lost foam casting as a processing technique to synthesize high-strength and ultra-wear-resistant particle reinforced iron matrix composites. The composite material incorporates large-sized WC-11Co reinforcement. The composite exhibits a multiphase microstructure composed of WC-11Co, α-Fe, and carbide precipitates that extend at different length scales. The precipitation of large-sized M3W3C (M = Fe, Co) type carbides at the WC-11Co/matrix interface is well controlled. A favorable reaction layer is formed between WC-11Co and the matrix. Nano-precipitates are pinned within the reaction layer, exhibiting a high degree of coherence with the iron matrix. The stress field at the interface is complex due to thermal stress, phase transformation stress, and microstress. The stress state between WC-11Co and the matrix consists of compressive residual stress-tensile residual stress-compressive residual stress, with compressive residual stress far exceeding tensile residual stress. The WC-11Co/Fe0.35C5CrMn composite exhibits outstanding compressive strength of 2.18 GPa and a fracture strain of approximately 24.6 %. Moreover, the composite demonstrates excellent wear resistance, with a threefold improvement compared to the matrix under severe wear conditions. The following mechanisms contribute to the enhanced mechanical properties: multiphase material system, coherent multiscale interfaces, grain refinement, dislocation strengthening, and residual stress strengthening.

In the Changning block of the southern Sichuan Basin, the shale gas wells in the Upper Ordovician Wufeng Formation to Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation (Wufeng–Longmaxi) demonstrate significant difference in flowback rate of fracturing fluid, given the same fracturing scale and production time. Based on the P90 curve of flowback rate with time, wells with high flowback rates in this area are categorized, and they are generally defined with the 100-day flowback rate of >40%, the 200-day flowback rate of >50%, and the first-year flowback rate >60%. Through comprehensive research on the geological characteristics of the Changning block, the geological factors that cause high gas well backflow rates have been identified. The results are obtained in four aspects. First, gas wells with high flowback rates generally show higher flow rates for smaller distances to the fault, and the NE faults formed during the late Yanshanian to early Himalayan and with fault throw >200 m have the greatest impact on the flowback rate. Second, plane heterogeneity of water saturation contributes to the high flowback rate of some wells. Third, the proportion of the Middle Ordovician Baota Formation in the horizontal section of wells is positively related to the flowback rate, and the drilling and fracturing of the Baota limestone with high water content can lead to high flowback rates of gas wells to some extent. Fourth, unidirectional linear natural fractures between wells can easily cause inter-well frac-hit, leading to high flowback rates of gas wells. In conclusion, the research results are helpful in predicting areas where high backflow rate gas wells may occur and developing corresponding drainage and production methods in advance.

Abstract Background Deoxynivalenol (DON), one of the most prevalent mycotoxins, has been found to cause fetal growth retardation in animals. However, limited evidence exists regarding its effects on pregnant women. Methods Maternal urinary concentration of total DON (tDON) and free DON (fDON) in the second trimester was measured using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. Provisional daily intake (PDI) of DON was calculated based on tDON concentration. Linear and logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between DON exposure levels and birth weight, birth length, and the risk of small for gestational age (SGA). Results Among 1538 subjects, the median concentrations of tDON and fDON were 12.1 ng/mL and 5.1 ng/mL, respectively. The PDI values revealed that the median DON intake was 0.7 µg/kg bw, and 35.9% of the total population exceeded the provisional maximum tolerable daily intake (PMTDI) of 1 µg/kg bw. Abstract Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play an important role in human and bovine milk composition. According to excellent published studies, it also exerts various functions in the gut, bone, or immune system. However, the effects of milk-derived EVs on skeletal muscle growth and performance have yet to be fully explored. Firstly, the current study examined the amino acids profile in human milk EVs (HME) and bovine milk EVs (BME) using targeted metabolomics. Secondly, HME and BME were injected in the quadriceps of mice for four weeks (1 time/3 days). Then, related muscle performance, muscle growth markers/pathways, and amino acids profile were detected or measured by grip strength analysis, rotarod performance testing, Jenner-Giemsa/H&E staining, Western blotting, and targeted metabolomics, respectively. Finally, HME and BME were co-cultured with C2C12 cells to detect the above-related indexes and further testify relative phenomena. Our findings mainly demonstrated that HME and BME significantly increase the diameter of C2C12 myotubes. HME treatment demonstrates higher exercise performance and muscle fiber densities than BME treatment. Besides, after KEGG and correlation analyses with biological function after HME and BME treatment, results showed L-Ornithine acts as a “notable marker” after HME treatment to affect mouse skeletal muscle growth or functions. Otherwise, L-Ornithine also significantly positively correlates with the activation of the AKT/mTOR pathway and myogenic regulatory factors (MRFs) and can also be observed in muscle and C2C12 cells after HME treatment. Overall, our study not only provides a novel result for the amino acid composition of HME and BME, but the current study also indicates the advantage of human milk on skeletal muscle growth and performance.

In order to find out the best range of diamond powder content for heat conductive adhesive, the influence of diamond powder content on the heat conductive adhesive was studied. The surface of diamond powder with different particle sizes was modified by silane coupling agent. In order to increase the specific surface area of diamond powder, a new type of inorganic thermal conductive adhesive was prepared by using 60 μm, 20 μm and 10 μm diamond powder as filler and water glass as matrix at the mass ratio of 6∶2∶1. The results show that the adhesive property of thermal conductive adhesive increases at first and then decreases, and that the adhesive property is best when the content of diamond is 60% and the tensile shear strength is 1.98 MPA. Besides, the thermal conductivity of the adhesive increases first and then decreases. The best thermal conductivity is 6.32 W/(m · K) when the content of diamond is 50%. Therefore, when the mass fraction of diamond is 50% ~ 60%, the adhesive and thermal conductivity of thermal conductive adhesive is the best.

This paper is based on the distribution characteristics of the protective layer current under the fault state of high-voltage cables, and discovers the monotonic variation law between the fault point position and the power frequency phase difference of the protective layer current at both ends of the cable fault section. A method for fault location using the phase difference of the protective layer current at both ends of the cable section is proposed. For a long cable line composed of multiple complete cross-connected sections, the cross-connected section can be located through the current power frequency phase difference P (section) at both ends of the metal sheath section, just like the section positioning within the complete cross-connected section. If P (section) ∈ (90°, 270°), then the section is a fault section; otherwise, it is a non-fault section. Finally, the relationship curve between the power frequency phase difference of the protective layer current at both ends of the fault section and the distance from the fault point is used to determine the fault location.

Abstract Objective Colorectal cancer (CRC) represents a leading cause of cancer‐related deaths. Metronidazole (MNZ) is exceedingly implicated in CRC. This study explored the roles of MNZ in mouse CRC occurrence and liver metastasis (CRLM). Methods Male BALB/c nude mice were subjected to CRC and CRLM modeling, orally administration with MNZ (1 g/L) 1 week before modeling, and disease activity index (DAI) evaluation. Fresh stool and anal swab samples were collected on the morning of the 28th day after modeling. The relative expression of Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) DNA was assessed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. After euthanasia, tumor tissues and liver tissues were separated and the tumor volume and weight change were measured. The liver tissues were stained with hematoxylin–eosin to quantitatively analyze the metastatic liver nodules. Malignant tumor biomarker Ki67 protein levels in liver tissues/DNA from stool samples were detected by immunohistochemistry/high‐throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Bioinformatics analysis was performed on the raw sequence data to analyze microbial community richness (Chao1 index, ACE index) and microbial community diversity (Shannon index). Results The DAI and F. nucleatum DNA relative expression in feces and anal swabs of the CRC and CRLM groups were raised and repressed after MNZ intervention. MNZ repressed tumor occurrence and growth in mice to a certain extent, alleviated CRLM malignant degree (reduced liver metastases and Ki67‐positive cell density/number), and suppressed CRC liver metastasis by regulating intestinal flora structure, which affected the intestinal characteristic flora of CRC and CRLM mice. Conclusion MNZ suppressed CRC occurrence and CRLM in mice by regulating intestinal F. nucleatum.

To understand the occurrence state of fracturing fluid in shale gas matrix-fracture system, an experimental method for evaluating fracturing fluid flow characteristics in matrix-fracture system was established. By using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance method, the flow characteristics of fracturing fluid were investigated from three processes of filtration, well shut-in and flowback. The T2 spectrum of fracturing fluid flow process and fracturing fluid saturation in matrix-fracture core model were clarified. The results demonstrate that the peak area of T2 spectra increases gradually during the filtration process, and the fracturing fluid quickly fills the fractures and matrix pores. During the well shut-in process, the fracturing fluid gradually flows from the fracture space to the matrix pores, and the signal of the matrix pores increases by 50.5%. During the flowback process, fracturing fluid flows out of the matrix and fracture. And when it reaches a stable state, the peak signal in the fracture decreases by 64.5% and the matrix signal reduces by 18.8%. The better the porosity and permeability characteristics of the core, the more likely the fracturing fluid is to stay in the formation and cannot be discharged. This paper would contribute to basic parameters for shale gas fracturing design and production strategy optimization.

Thinopyrum intermedium (2n=6x=42, StStJrJrJvsJvs) is resistant or tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses, making it suitable for developing perennial crops and forage. Through five cycles of selection, we developed 24 perennial wheatgrass lines, designated 19HSC-Q and 20HSC-Z, by crossing wheat-Th. intermedium partial amphiploids with Th. intermedium. The cold resistance, morphological performance, chromosome composition, and yield components of these perennial lines were investigated from 2019 to 2022. Six lines of 19HSC-Q had higher 1,000-kernel weight, grains per spike, and tiller number than Th. intermedium, as well as surviving -30°C in winter. Lines 19HSC-Q14, 19HSC-Q18, and 19HSC-Q20 had the best performances for grain number per spike and 1,000-kernel weight. The 20HSC-Z lines, 20HSC-Z1, 20HSC-Z2, and 20HSC-Z3, were able to survive in the cold winter in Harbin and had been grown for two years. Sequential multicolor GISH analysis revealed that the Jvs subgenome of Th. intermedium were divided into two karyotypes, three pairs of type-I Jvs chromosomes and four pairs of type-II Jvs chromosomes. Both Th. intermedium and the 24 advanced perennial wheatgrass lines had similar chromosome compositions, but the translocations among subgenome chromosomes were detected in some lines with prominent agronomic traits, such as 19HSC-Q11, 19HSC-Q14, 19HSC-Q18, 19HSC-Q20, and the three 20HSC-Z lines. The chromosome aberrations were distinguished into two types: the large fragment translocation with St-Jr, Jvs-St, Jr-IIJvs, and Jvs-Jr and the small fragment introgression of Jr-St, St-IJvs, and Jvs-Jr. These chromosomal variations can be used to further analyze the relationship between the subgenomes and phenotypes of Th. intermedium. The results of this study provide valuable materials for the next selection cycle of cold-resistant perennial wheatgrass.

Analysis of the phylogenetic structure of a community based on the phylogenetic relationships among species in the community can reflect the ecological process of community composition and determine the mechanism of plant community construction. In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of the phylogenetic structure and diversity of plant communities in the Gurbantunggut Desert and their interactions with soil factors and explored the mechanisms of species maintenance in the communities. The results showed that the ecological traits of plants were conserved, habitat filtering was the primary process affecting plant communities, and the diversity of phylogeny was ranked as fixed dunes > semifixed dunes > mobile dunes. At different slope positions within the dune, there is greater phylogenetic diversity at the bottom and lower slope, and habitat filtering dominates community construction, with the dominant role of habitat filtering in the community diminishing as the slope position rises. The phylogenetic diversity of plant communities of different life types is ranked as short-lived plants > small trees and shrubs > annual and perennial herbs. On the bottom and lower slopes, short-lived plants and annual and perennial herbaceous communities are mainly influenced by habitat filtering. Habitat filterability decreased with increasing slope position. On the upper slopes and at the top, competitive exclusion effects between small trees and shrubs dominated. Our analysis shows that soil water content and organic carbon affect phylogenetic diversity mainly by influencing community species richness and that the interaction between soil water content, grain size and plant diversity leads to clustering of species with similar soil preferences, which in turn affects the phylogenetic structure of the community. In addition, the change from habitat filtering to intraspecific competition in plant community construction from the bottom to the top of the slope is mainly influenced by short-lived plant communities, and this type of plant needs to be given priority consideration in the conservation and restoration of desert plant communities.

Since the approval to establishment, the Changning-Weiyuan National Shale Gas Demonstration Area in the Sichuan Basin (hereinafter referred to as Demonstration Area) has been built up into a shale gas industry demonstration base characterized with scale, technology, management and green after more than 10 years of exploration and practice. Its successful experience is of great guiding significance to the efficient development of unconventional oil and gas resources in China. In this paper, the technologies which were developed for the beneficial development of the Demonstration Area during the 13th Five-Year Plan are systematically reviewed and summarized. Then, some countermeasures are proposed to solve the difficulties and challenges to the long-term benefit and stable production of middle-deep shale gas in this area. And the following research results are obtained. First, during the construction of the Demonstration Area, the “three-control” shale gas enrichment and high-production theory is innovatively proposed, and the shale gas enrichment model in the southern Sichuan Basin is clarified. Second, a high-production well cultivation method based on geology-engineering integration is established by developing six main technologies for shale gas exploration and development, which effectively supports the large-scale beneficial development of shale gas in the Demonstration Area. Third, the beneficial development model of middle-deep shale gas in the southern Sichuan Basin is preliminarily formed, and the benefit and efficiency of productivity construction are improved comprehensively. Fourth, the three measures of “controlling the decline rate, enhancing the reserve production and expanding the periphery” are used to support the replacement and stable production of middle-deep shale gas. In conclusion, to sustainably ensure the long-term benefit and stable production of shale gas in the southern Sichuan Basin, it is still necessary to deepen fine reservoir description and complex mechanism understanding and explore EOR technologies. What's more, the important mean to improve the single-well shale gas production rate in this area is to strengthen the fine fracturing design and implementation under the deep integration of geology and engineering and improve the construction quality of fracturing network continuously. Furthermore, the only way to the low-cost development of the demonstration area is to promote the management reform and innovation continuously and improve the beneficial development model further.

As an important high-voltage electrical equipment in the substation, the performance stability of high-voltage current transformers is directly related to the safe operation of the power grid. The insulating medium of the traditional oil-immersed current transformer is an oil-immersed paper structure. When the oil-immersed current transformer malfunctions, it is easy to cause fire and explosion, resulting in very serious consequences. If the transformer with the epoxy resin impregnated paper insulation medium is used, there is no oil and gas inside; thus, it has high reliability, which greatly reduces the risk of fire and explosion. Based on this, considering the application research on the high-voltage current transformers epoxy resin impregnated paper technology, this paper mainly analyzes some precautions for the application of epoxy resin impregnated paper technology to the high-voltage current transformers from three aspects: the research on the insulation performance of the epoxy resin impregnated paper transformers, the research on the mechanical properties, and the research on the relevant experimental methods of the epoxy resin impregnated paper technology application to the high-voltage current transformers.

Currently, the dynamic erosive small molecule nano-prodrug is of great demand for oral chemotherapy, owing to its precise structure, high drug loading and improved oral bioavailability via overcoming various physiologic barriers in gastrointestinal tract, blood circulation and tumor tissues compared to other oral nanomedicines. Herein, this work highlights the successful development of pH-triggered dynamic erosive small molecule nano-prodrugs based on in vivo significant pH changes, which are synthesized via amide reaction between chlorambucil and star-shaped ortho esters. The precise nano-prodrugs exhibit extraordinarily high drug loading (68.16%), electric neutrality, strong hydrophobicity, and dynamic large-to-small size transition from gastrointestinal pH to tumoral pH. These favorable physicochemical properties can effectively facilitate gastrointestinal absorption, blood circulation stability, tumor accumulation, cellular uptake, and cytotoxicity, therefore achieving high oral relative bioavailability (358.72%) and significant tumor growth inhibition while decreasing side effects. Thus, this work may open a new avenue for robust oral chemotherapy attractive for clinical translation.

In order to improve the thermal stability of PCD during practical application, the mixed solution of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide was selected to remove cobalt from PCD. The effect of decobaltization on microstructure and mechanical property of PCD as well as its mechanism were studied. According to the SEM results, several deep corrosion pits were observed on the surface of PCD after the 48 h decobaltization process under room temperature, indicating that the cobalt phase was almost removed. Besides, the depths of decobaltization on the upper and lower surfaces were 176 μm and 162 μm, respectively. Based on the EDS results, the remaining mass fraction of cobalt in the decobaltized layer was determined to be 0.93%, while that in the non-decobaltized layer was 7.64%. This suggested that 87.83% of cobalt was dissolved and removed in the mixed solution of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The residual stress of PCD samples was also measured. The residual stress before and after decobaltization was 483.91 MPa and 330.35 MPa, respectively. The reduction of 31.73% indicated that decobaltization could effectively reduce the residual thermal stress in PCD.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate effects of zine oxide (ZnO) and condensed tannins (CT), independently or in combination, on the growth performance and intestinal health of weaned piglets in enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC-K88)-challenged environment. Randomly divided 72 weaned piglets into 4 groups. Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element that plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of humans, animals, and certain plants. It is extensively present throughout the Earth’s crust and is absorbed by crops in the form of selenates and selenite, eventually entering the food chain. Se biofortification is an agricultural process that employs agronomic and genetic strategies. Its goal is to enhance the mechanisms of crop uptake and the accumulation of exogenous Se, resulting in the production of crops enriched with Se. This process ultimately contributes to promoting human health. Agronomic strategies in Se biofortification aim to enhance the availability of exogenous Se in crops. Concurrently, genetic strategies focus on improving a crop’s capacity to uptake, transport, and accumulate Se. Early research primarily concentrated on optimizing Se biofortification methods, improving Se fertilizer efficiency, and enhancing Se content in crops. In recent years, there has been a growing realization that Se can effectively enhance crop growth and increase crop yield, thereby contributing to alleviating food shortages. Additionally, Se has been found to promote the accumulation of macro-nutrients, antioxidants, and beneficial mineral elements in crops. The supplementation of Se biofortified foods is gradually emerging as an effective approach for promoting human dietary health and alleviating hidden hunger. Therefore, in this paper, we provide a comprehensive summary of the Se biofortification conducted over the past decade, mainly focusing on Se accumulation in crops and its impact on crop quality. We discuss various Se biofortification strategies, with an emphasis on the impact of Se fertilizer strategies on crop Se accumulation and their underlying mechanisms. Furthermore, we highlight Se’s role in enhancing crop quality and offer perspective on Se biofortification in crop improvement, guiding future mechanistic explorations and applications of Se biofortification.

Abstract Background Progesterone is widely used to improve the adverse pregnancy outcomes related to vaginal bleeding during early pregnancy. However, the evidence of its effectiveness is equivocal. Methods Six thousand six hundred fifteen mother-infant pairs from Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort (TMCHC) were involved in the study. Information on vaginal bleeding, progesterone administration in early pregnancy were obtained at enrolment. Birth outcomes were obtained from the hospital notes. Body weight of the infants at 12 months of age was collected by telephone interview. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to estimate the effect of vaginal bleeding and progesterone administration in early pregnancy on birth outcomes and weight status of infants at 12 months of age. Results 21.4% (1418/6615) participants experienced bleeding in early pregnancy, and 47.5% (674/1418) of them were treated with progesterone. There were no significant associations between progesterone supplementation in early pregnancy and offspring outcomes. Compared to women without bleeding or any therapy, women with bleeding and progesterone therapy experienced increased risk of preterm (OR 1.74, 95% CI 1.21–2.52), and delivering a small-for-gestational-age (SGA) (OR 1.46, 95% CI 1.07–1.98) or low birth weight (LBW) (OR 2.10, 95% CI 1.25–3.51) neonate, and offspring of them had an increased risk of weight for age z-score (WAZ)

Abstract The research on surface texture is developing from single macro-texture to composite micro-nano texture. The current research on the anti-friction mechanism and theoretical models of textures is relatively weak. Studying the characteristics of different types of surface textures and determining the applicable working conditions of each texture is the focus of current research. In this paper, a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication is established based on Navier–Stokes equations. The FLUENT software is used to simulate and analyze the four texture models, explore the dynamic pressure lubrication characteristics of different texture types, and provide data support for texture optimization. The key variable values required by the mathematical model are obtained through the simulation data. The friction coefficient of the texture under different working conditions was measured through friction and wear experiments, and the mathematical model was verified by the experimental results. The research results show that circular texture is suitable for low to medium speed and high load conditions, chevron texture is suitable for medium to high speed and medium to high load conditions, groove texture is suitable for high speed and low load conditions, and composite texture is suitable for high speed and medium to high load conditions. Comparing the experimental results with the results obtained by the mathematical model, it is found that the two are basically the same in the ranking of the anti-friction performance of different textures, and there is an error of 10%−40% in the friction coefficient value. In this study, a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication was proposed, and the solution method of the optimal surface texture model was determined.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has gradually become the primary cause of fatty liver disease. Betel nuts have been used to treat gastrointestinal diseases.Methods: In the present study, we analyzed the pathology, serology, gut flora, and metabolites in a rat model of NAFLD, with and without betel nut alkaloid treatment, using an integrated approach involving pathology, serological testing, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry metabolomics.Results: Two rats were used for model validation. Thirty SD rats were included and divided into the normal group (C group), NAFLD model group (M group), low-dose group, medium-dose group (T group), and high-dose group with intraperitoneal injection of arecoline. The expression of blood lipids was significantly downregulated at all three arecoline concentrations (p < 0.05). Alpha-diversity analysis of the intestinal flora showed significant differences among the three groups, with a significant reduction in population diversity in the M group and a recovery of population diversity after arecoline treatment. At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Firmicutes was significantly higher in the T group and Proteobacteria in the M group. The KEGG metabolic pathways included polyketide sugar unit biosynthesis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Thirty-three significantly different metabolites were identified among the groups. Significantly different metabolites between groups T and M included indolepyruvate, 2-deoxystreptamine, sakuranetin, glycyl-leucine, and riboflavin. The KEGG metabolic pathway suggested a potential role for arachidonic acid metabolism, serotonergic synapses, neuroactive ligand-receptor interactions, tyrosine metabolism, and regiomelanin. Vitamin digestion and absorption, as well as regulation of lipolysis in adipocytes, were the main metabolic pathways that distinguished the T vs. M groups. PGE2 is involved in several metabolic pathways. Correlation analysis showed that 29 bacterial species were significantly associated with PGE2 levels in the M and T groups. Vagococcus, Lawsonia, Christensenella, unidentified Erysipelotrichaceae, unidentified Coriobacteriaceae, and five other bacterial groups are unique in the PGE2 metabolic pathway regulated by arecoline.Discussion: Arecoline has lipid-lowering effects and may exert therapeutic effects in NAFLD through intestinal metabolites and intestinal flora, as well as through the Butyricicoccus/Christensenella/Coriobacteriaceae-COX2/PGE2 pathway. Thus, arecoline may represent a potential drug or target for NAFLD treatment.

Imbibition and flowback of fracturing fluid usually occur in the shale matrix after hydraulic fracturing, which significantly impacts shale gas production and environmental protection. The rocks of deep shale gas reservoirs are under high-temperature and high-temperature conditions. There are rich micro-nano pores with various pore structures in deep shale. In addition, the flowback behavior is significantly affected by the imbibition behavior because the flowback begins after the end of the imbibition. Therefore, an accurate pore-scale description of the coupled imbibition-flowback behavior is crucial to understand the flowback mechanism and its impacts. In this paper, a pseudo-potential lattice Boltzmann method is employed to simulate the coupled imbibition-flowback behavior in a digital shale core, where the digital core is reconstructed by Markov Chain-Monte Carlo method based on scanning microscope images of deep shale cores. The microcosmic mechanism of the imbibition and flowback is studied under deep shale conditions. The influence of some factors, such as pore structure, fluid viscosity, wettability, and flowback pressure difference, on the flowback behavior of fracturing fluid is investigated. It is found that the fracturing fluid advances almost uniformly throughout the pore space during the imbibition process. The fracturing fluid is easy to adsorb on the pore wall, and the shale gas is located in the middle of the pore space. The viscous fingering is clearly observed during the flowback process, where shale gas flows through large pores to form a flow channel, and the fracturing fluid stays in tiny pores. The flowback rate increases gradually with the flowback time and eventually tends to be almost constant. The wettability, flowback pressure difference, and pore structure significantly influence the flowback behavior, while the fracturing fluid viscosity has a smaller effect on the flowback process.

As shale gas reservoirs have low porosity and low permeability, hydraulic fracturing is a necessary means for industrial exploitation of shale gas. In this study, aiming at the problem of reservoir damage in the process of hydraulic fracturing of shale gas reservoir, a physical simulation method of slickwater fracturing fluid flow in shale core has been established. The change laws of physical parameters of the shale were quantified after slickwater fracturing fluid filtrating into it. The main factors affecting physical parameters of shale matrix around fractures were found out in the process of fracturing, shut-in, and flowback of slickwater fracturing fluid. The results show that after treated by slickwater fracturing fluid, the wettability of shale becomes more uniform in distribution (the water contact angles from 43° to 48°). In the fracturing filtration zone, the damage rate of fracturing fluid to shale porosity is 6.4%-42.0%. Low differential pressure flowback can reduce the damage of the shale, and prolonging the time of shut-in has no obvious effect on the damage to porosity. After 0.3 d (imbibition stability time), the damage of fracturing fluid to shale permeability is basically stable (55.9%). Permeability damage is mainly caused by residue of the fracturing fluid in large pores and bound water in small pores. Analysis of weights of all fracturing parameters shows that flowback differential pressure has the largest influence weight on shale porosity (51.4%), and well shut-in time has the largest influence weight on shale permeability (62.7%). Therefore, in the production process, it is suggested to properly reduce the backflow differential pressure and moderately shorten the well shut-in time.

Abstract Background Blastocystis is an anaerobic unicellular protist frequently detected in the gastrointestinal tracts of humans and animals worldwide. However, the prevalence and subtype distribution of Blastocystis in the coypu (Myocastor coypus) population have not been reported so far. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, genetic characteristics, and zoonotic potential of Blastocystis isolates detected in coypus in China. Results A total of 308 fecal samples were collected from coypus in seven regions across China and subsequently examined. Blastocystis was detected in 44 (14.3%) specimens by nested PCR amplification of the small subunit ribosomal rRNA (SSU rRNA) gene. Further DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analyses resulted in the identification of two zoonotic known subtypes, ST4 and ST5, and an unknown subtype. ST4 was the most predominant subtype observed in the samples. ST5 infections were only observed in three coypus. Factors that were associated with prevalence of Blastocystis included age, geographical region and subtype. Interestingly, this is the first report about a potentially novel subtype infecting coypus. Conclusions This is the first comprehensive report of Blastocystis in M. coypus across a wide geographic range of China. A moderate degree of genetic divergence was observed. The presence of zoonotic subtypes in farmed M. coypus suggests that these animals have the potential to transmit blastocystosis to both humans and domestic animals. These findings provide a better understanding of the genetic diversity of Blastocystis in rodents and contribute towards the establishment of efficient blastocystosis control strategies in the investigated areas. This study aims to determine the association of pregnancy cholesterol metabolism markers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk. We performed a nested case–control study in the Tongji Birth Cohort. GDM was diagnosed according to the 75 g 2 h oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 24–28 gestational weeks. Nine cholesterol metabolism markers were detected using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Conditional logistic regression models were conducted. A total of 444 pregnant women were matched in a 1:2 ratio. The cholestanolTC and β-sitosterolTC in cholesterol absorption markers presented negative associations with the risks of GDM (adjusted OR: 0.77, 95% CI: 0.61–0.96; adjusted OR: 0.80, 95% CI: 0.64–1.00). The desmosterolTC in cholesterol synthesis markers were positively associated with the risks of GDM (adjusted OR: 1.25, 95% CI: 1.00–1.56), similar in the ratios of cholesterol synthesis to absorption markers. After adjustment for insulin or HOMA-IR, these effects were reduced. In conclusion, higher cholesterol synthesis and lower cholesterol absorption marker levels in the first pregnancy are associated with a higher risk of GDM, and insulin resistance may play a vital role in this association.

Abstract Background Camrelizumab (a PD-1 inhibitor) has been used as a potential therapy in unresectable advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) along with adjuvant treatment in locally advanced ESCC, exhibiting an acceptable efficacy and safety profile. This pilot study was designed to further investigate the clinical value and tolerance of neoadjuvant camrelizumab plus chemotherapy in locally advanced ESCC. Methods A total of 16 patients with locally advanced ESCC were recruited. Patients received 2 cycles of neoadjuvant therapy including 2 doses of camrelizumab concurrent with 2 cycles of paclitaxel plus carboplatin followed by surgery 4 weeks afterward. Then, the treatment response after neoadjuvant therapy, R0 resection rate, tumor regression grade (TRG), and pathological complete remission (pCR) rate were measured. Besides, adverse events were documented. At last, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed. Results Generally, objective remission rate (ORR) was 81.3% whereas disease control rate (DCR) was 100% after neoadjuvant therapy. Concerning TRG grade, 31.3, 37.5, 18.8, and 12.5% patients reached TRG0, TRG1, TRG2, and TRG3, respectively. Then, pCR rate and R0 resection rate were 31.3 and 93.8%, respectively. Besides, mean PFS and OS were 18.3 months (95%CI: (16.2–20.5) months) and 19.2 months (95%CI: (17.7–20.7) months), respectively, with a 1-year PFS of 83% and OS of 90.9%. Adverse events included white blood cell decrease (37.5%), neutrophil decrease (31.3%), reactive cutaneous capillary endothelial proliferation (37.5%), and nausea or vomiting (25.0%), which were relatively mild and manageable. Conclusion Neoadjuvant camrelizumab plus chemotherapy exhibits good efficacy and acceptable tolerance in patients with locally advanced ESCC.

ABSTRACT Infectious diseases pose a fatal risk to neonates. Timely and accurate pathogen detection is crucial for proper clinical diagnosis and therapeutic strategies. Limited sample volumes from neonatal patients seriously hindered the accurate detection of pathogens. Here, we unravel that metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and RNA can achieve unbiased detection of trace pathogens from different kinds of body fluid samples and blood samples. We enrolled 168 neonatal patients with suspected infections from whom blood samples (n = 153), cerebrospinal fluid samples (n = 127), and respiratory tract samples (RTSs) (including bronchoalveolar lavage fluids, sputa, and respiratory secretions) (n = 51) were collected and analyzed using mNGS. High rates of positivity (70.2%; 118/168) of mNGS were observed, and the coincidence rate against the final clinical diagnosis in positive mNGS cases reached 68.6% (81/118). The most common causative pathogens were Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 12), Escherichia coli (n = 12), and Streptococcus pneumoniae (n = 8). mNGS using cfDNA and RNA can identify microbes that cannot be detected by conventional methods in different body fluid and blood samples, and more than 50% of these microbes were identified as causative pathogens. Further local polynomial regression fitting analysis revealed that the best timing for mNGS detection ranged from 1 to 3 days after the start of continuous antimicrobial therapy. Diagnosed and guided by mNGS results, the therapeutic regimens for 86 out of 117 neonatal patients were changed, most of whom (80/86) completely recovered and were discharged, while 44 out of 86 patients completely or partially stopped unnecessary medication. Our findings highlight the importance of mNGS in detecting causative DNA and RNA pathogens in infected neonatal patients. IMPORTANCE To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on evaluating the performance of mNGS using cfDNA and RNA from body fluid and blood samples for diagnosing neonatal infections. mNGS of RNA and cfDNA can achieve the unbiased detection and identification of trace pathogens from different kinds of neonatal body fluid and blood samples with a high total coincidence rate (226/331; 68.3%) against final clinical diagnoses by sample. The best timing for mNGS detection in neonatal infections ranged from 1 to 3 days, rather than 0 days, after the start of continuous antimicrobial therapy. Our findings highlight the importance of mNGS in detecting causative DNA and RNA pathogens, and the extensive application of mNGS for the diagnosis of neonatal infections can be expected.

ABSTRACT: Blastocystis is a gastrointestinal protozoan parasite commonly reported in humans and animals globally, including poultry, and it can cause zoonotic transmission of blastocystosis. However, comprehensive information is not available on the prevalence, subtype distribution and zoonotic potential of Blastocystis in chickens in China. In this study, a total of 1,000 individual fecal samples of free-range broiler chickens of 4 breeds were collected from 43 farms in 5 cities of Guangdong Province and investigated for the occurrence of Blastocystis infection. Blastocystis was determined by nested PCR analysis of the small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene. The overall prevalence was 20.1% (201/1,000) in chicken samples and 69.8% (30/43) in screened farms, and considerable variation in prevalence between farms was evident, with a range of 0 to 76.9%. Population differences of Blastocystis in broilers among sites, breeds, and ages were assessed. The highest infection rates were observed in Yangjiang city (35.8%, 38/106), Sanhuang chickens (29.7%, 104/350), and the >80-day-old chicken group (30.5%, 40/131). DNA sequencing and phylogeny analyses identified 2 zoonotic subtypes, ST6 and ST7. A large predominance was observed for ST7, and genetic polymorphisms were confirmed at the intra-ST7 level with the identification of 5 divergent ST7 types. The incidence of both STs varied largely based on the breed, site, farm, and age. This is the first large-scale study to explore the prevalence and genetic characteristics of Blastocystis in chickens in China. The widespread distribution and avian adaptation of both zoonotic subtypes were demonstrated. The findings of this study highlight a potential threat to humans and will provide a better understanding of the epidemiology and public health impact of poultry Blastocystis.

BackgroundNutrition and health knowledge play a crucial role in promoting healthy dietary behaviors, and have been found to be related to sociodemographic characteristics. However, the existing evidence is limited and inconsistent. We aimed to evaluate the awareness level of nutrition and health knowledge and its influencing factors among Wuhan residents, and to provide scientific basis for carrying out targeted nutrition education programmes.MethodsBy stratified random sampling, residents aged 18–64 in Wuhan were selected for self-administered questionnaire survey. We adopted the structured questionnaire to investigate respondents' sociodemographic characteristics, nutrition and health knowledge, and the way to acquire knowledge. Among them, nutrition and health knowledge includes the following four parts: dietary guidelines recommendations, food and nutrients, nutrition and disease prevention, and nutrition skills. Chi-square tests were used to analyze the associations between total awareness rate and sociodemographic characteristics. Multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the influencing factors of nutrition and health awareness.ResultsA total of 33,436 valid questionnaires were obtained, with a response rate of 97.8%. The total awareness rate was 20.4%, with the highest in nutrition and disease prevention (72.7%) and the lowest in nutrition skills (46.3%). Responders aged 35–44 (23.3%), females (22.8%), educational workers (24.8%), obtaining a master's degree or above (34.1%), living in downtown area (23.1%), and without a history of chronic disease (24.6%) were more likely to have higher awareness rates (all p < 0.001). The multiple linear regression models showed that age, gender, education level, occupation, residential address, and the history of chronic disease were the potential factors affecting individual nutrition awareness.ConclusionThe total awareness rate of nutrition and health knowledge among Wuhan residents was not optimistic. Besides, our findings suggested that sociodemographic characteristics are closely related to nutrition awareness, which may provide important clues for carried out nutrition education campaigns.

In a planetary gear set with an elastic ring gear, there are several pairs of flexible internal meshing simultaneously. The interactions between them are often ignored when considering their mesh stiffness. This study is devoted to investigating the effect of the number of equally spaced planets and the number of fixed supports of ring gear on mesh force and loaded-static transmission error (LSTE) as well as related mesh stiffness through a 2D system-level finite element model. This model is first validated by the comparison with the traditional potential energy method (PEM) when the ring gear is fully fixed. Then taking the number of planets and fixed supports as variables, 16 sets of analyses are conducted. Mesh force and LSTE extracted from the model, together with the mesh stiffness derived by them, are analyzed and concluded in the time domain and/or frequency domain. It is demonstrated that the number of planets has a certain impact on the ring-planet mesh stiffness. In terms of the number of planets and fixed supports, planetary gear systems can be classified into three categories according to the distinctive behaviors of mesh force and LSTE in the time domain and frequency domain.

ObjectiveProgrammed cell death 1 (PD-1) inhibitor has been in the market in China for several years, which lacks sufficient domestic evidence regarding its application in lung cancer. Thus, this study intended to assess the treatment outcome and tolerance of PD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy in advanced, driver-gene-negative, nonsquamous, non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in a real clinical setting.MethodsThis retrospective cohort study analyzed 68 advanced driver-gene-negative nonsquamous NSCLC patients, among which 38 cases received PD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy and 30 cases adopted chemotherapy alone. Disease control rate (DCR), objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events were reviewed.ResultsGenerally, PD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy achieved a more satisfying ORR compared with chemotherapy alone (52.6% vs. 30.0%, P = 0.061), while the DCR did not vary between PD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy and chemotherapy (84.2% vs. 73.3%, P = 0.271). Patients receiving PD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy exhibited favorable PFS (median: 10.1 vs. 7.1 months, P = 0.040) and OS (median: 17.4 vs. 13.9 months, P = 0.049) than patients adopting chemotherapy alone. Additionally, after adjustment using multivariable Cox's analyses, PD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy (vs. chemotherapy) could independently realize prolonged PFS (P = 0.020) and OS (P = 0.029). Moreover, the majority of adverse events were manageable; meanwhile, grade 3–4 adverse events included leukopenia (13.2%), neutropenia (13.2%), nausea and vomiting (7.9%), anemia (5.3%), elevated transaminase (5.3%), thrombopenia (2.6%), anorexia (2.6%), peripheral neuropathy (2.6%), and rash (2.6%).ConclusionPD-1 inhibitor plus chemotherapy exhibits a better efficacy and equal tolerance compared with chemotherapy alone in advanced driver-gene-negative nonsquamous NSCLC patients.

Abstract Flexible circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) switching devices have been long‐awaited due to their promising potential application in wearable optoelectronic devices. However, on account of the few materials and complicated design of manufacturing systems, how to fabricate a flexible electric‐field‐driven CPL‐switching device is still a serious challenge. Herein, a flexible device with multiple optical switching properties (CPL, circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence, color) is designed and prepared efficiently based on proton‐coupled electron transfer (PCET) mechanism by optimizing the chiral structure of switching molecule. More importantly, this device can maintain the switching performance even after 300 bending‐unbending cycles. It has a remarkable comprehensive performance containing bistable property, low open voltage, and good cycling stability. Then, prototype devices with designed patterns have been fabricated, which opens a new application pattern of CPL‐switching materials.

This paper realizes the simultaneous optimization of a vessel’s course and speed for a whole voyage within the estimated time of arrival (ETA), which can ensure the voyage is safe and energy-saving through proper planning of the route and speed. Firstly, a dynamic sea area model with meteorological and oceanographic data sets is established to delineate the navigable and prohibited areas; secondly, some data are extracted from the records of previous voyages, to train two artificial neural network models to predict fuel consumption rate and revolutions per minute (RPM), which are the keys to route optimization. After that, speed configuration is introduced to the optimization process, and a simultaneous optimization model for the ship’s course and speed is proposed. Then, based on a customized version of the A* algorithm, the optimization is solved in simulation. Two simulations of a ship crossing the North Pacific show that the proposed methods can make navigation decisions in advance that ensure the voyage’s safety, and compared with a naive route, the optimized navigation program can reduce fuel consumption while retaining an approximately constant time to destination and adapting to variations in oceanic conditions.

As milling chatter can lead to poor machining quality and limit the efficiency of productivity, it is of great significance to learn about milling chatter stability and research the effective and fast prediction of milling stability. In this study, a hybrid full-discretization method of multiple interpolation polynomials and precise integration (HFDM) is proposed for milling stability prediction. Firstly, the third-order Newton interpolation polynomial, third-order Hermite interpolation polynomial and linear interpolation are applied to approximate the state term, delay term and periodic coefficient matrix, respectively. Meanwhile, the matrix exponentials can be calculated based on the precise integration algorithm, which can improve computational accuracy and efficiency. The numerical simulation results indicate that the proposed method can not only effectively generate a stability lobe diagram (SLD) but also obtain better prediction accuracy and computation efficiency. A milling experiment is offered to demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

The molecular models of nanopores for major rock constituents in deep shale were constructed. The microscopic adsorption behavior of methane was simulated by coupling the grand canonical Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamics methods and the effect of rock constituents was discussed. Based on the illite and kerogen nanopore models, the discrepancies in microscopic water distribution characteristics were elucidated, the effects of water on methane adsorption and its underlying mechanisms were revealed, and the competitive adsorption characteristics between water and methane were elaborated. The results show a similar trend in the microscopic distribution of methane between different shale rock constituents. Illite and kerogen slit pores have no significant difference in methane adsorption capacity. The adsorption capacity per unit mass of kerogen is greater than that of illite due to the smaller molar mass of the kerogen skeleton and its large intermolecular porosity. Illite has a greater affinity for water than methane. With increasing water content, water molecules preferentially occupy the high-energy adsorption sites and then overspread the entire pore walls to form water adsorption layers. Methane molecules are adsorbed on the water layers, and methane adsorption has little effect on water adsorption. Kerogen is characterized as mix-wetting. Water molecules are preferentially adsorbed on polar functional groups and gather around to form water clusters. In kerogen with high water content, methane adsorption can facilitate water cluster fusion and suppress water spreading along pore walls. In addition to adsorption, some water molecules dissolve in the kerogen matrix.

Cryptosporidium muris is a zoonotic protozoan. Characterization of genetic diff erentiation can be exploited to trace the origins of the parasite. A Cryptosporidium isolate from brown rat was obtained by microscopy and genetically characterized. C. muris was identified with minor nucleotide diff erences. Further subtype analysis was performed using a multilocus sequence typing (MLST) tool. At each locus, the C. muris isolate was confirmed to be M12, M4, M1 and M2 subtype, representing as a new MLST subtype. Therefore, the results suggest that there was probably a new source of infection for C. muris in the study region.

The frequent use of antibiotics allows them to enter aqueous environments via wastewater, and many types of antibiotics accumulate in the environment due to difficult degradation, causing a threat to environmental health. It is crucial to adopt effective technical means to remove antibiotics in aqueous environments. The Fenton reaction, as an effective organic pollution treatment technology, is particularly suitable for the treatment of antibiotics, and at present, it is one of the most promising advanced oxidation technologies. Specifically, rapid Fenton oxidation, which features high removal efficiency, thorough reactions, negligible secondary pollution, etc., has led to many studies on using the Fenton reaction to degrade antibiotics. This paper summarizes recent progress on the removal of antibiotics in aqueous environments by Fenton and Fenton-like reactions. First, the applications of various Fenton and Fenton-like oxidation technologies to the removal of antibiotics are summarized; then, the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies are further summarized. Compared with Fenton oxidation, Fenton-like oxidations exhibit milder reaction conditions, wider application ranges, great reduction in economic costs, and great improved cycle times, in addition to simple and easy recycling of the catalyst. Finally, based on the above analysis, we discuss the potential for the removal of antibiotics under different application scenarios. This review will enable the selection of a suitable Fenton system to treat antibiotics according to practical conditions and will also aid the development of more advanced Fenton technologies for removing antibiotics and other organic pollutants.

BackgroundGrowing evidence suggests that dietary acid load plays an important role in the development of type 2 diabetes. However, prospective studies on the relationship between dietary acid load and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are limited in the pregnant population. This study aimed to investigate the effect of dietary acid load during early pregnancy on the risk of GDM in Chinese pregnant women.MethodsA total of 1,327 pregnant women were enrolled from an ongoing prospective study of the Tongji Birth cohort (TJBC) in Wuhan, China. Dietary intake was assessed before 20 weeks using a 74-item semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The dietary acid load was estimated using potential renal acid load (PRAL), net endogenous acid production (NEAP), and animal protein to potassium ratio (A:P ratio). A 75g 2-h oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed at 24-28 gestational weeks to diagnose GDM.ResultsThe mean (standard deviation) values for PRAL score, NEAP score, and A:P ratio were 0.8 ± 11.3 mEq/day, 45.3 ± 16.5 mEq/day, and 9.8 ± 6.0, respectively. There was a significant positive correlation of dietary acid load with the intake of red meat, poultry, fish, and eggs, and a negative correlation with the intake of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and legumes (all P < 0.05). Compared to the lowest tertile, the highest tertile of dietary acid load, including PRAL score (odds ratio [OR]: 2.26, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.38–3.71, P-trend = 0.002), NEAP score (OR: 2.02, 95% CI = 1.25–3.27, P-trend = 0.009), and A:P ratio (2.08, 95% CI = 1.30–3.31, P-trend = 0.005), significantly increased the risk of GDM. In addition, the dietary acid load was also significantly associated with an increase in 1-h and 2-h post-load blood glucose concentrations (all P-trend < 0.05).ConclusionWe found a significant positive association between dietary acid load during early pregnancy and the risk of GDM in a Chinese population, suggesting that the reduction of food sources of dietary acid load may be an effective strategy for preventing the risk of GDM.

Abstract Background Partial amphiploids created by crossing octoploid tritelytrigia(2n = 8× = 56, AABBDDEE) and Thinopyrum intermedium (2n = 6× = 42, StStJJJSJS) are important intermediates in wheat breeding because of their resistance to major wheat diseases. We examined the chromosome compositions of five wheat-Th. intermedium partial amphiploids using GISH and multicolor-FISH. Results The result revealed that five lines had 10-14 J-genome chromosomes from Th. intermedium and 42 common wheat chromosomes, using the J-genomic DNA from Th. bessarabicum as GISH probe and the oligo probes pAs1-1, pAs1-3, AFA-4, (GAA) 10, and pSc119.2-1 as FISH probe. Five lines resembled their parent octoploid tritelytrigia (2n = 8× = 56, AABBDDEE) but had higher protein contents. Protein contents of two lines HS2-2 and HS2-5 were up to more than 20%. Evaluation of Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance revealed that the percent of symptomatic spikelets (PSS) of these lines were below 30%. Lines HS2-2, HS2-4, HS2-5, and HS2-16 were less than 20% of PPS. Line HS2-5 with 14 J-genome chromosomes from Th. intermedium showed the best disease resistance, with PSS values of 10.8% and 16.6% in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Conclusions New wheat-Th. intermedium amphiploids with the J-genome chromosomes were identified and can be considered as a valuable source of FHB resistance in wheat breeding.

The timely access to accurate traffic data is essential to the development of intelligent traffic systems. However, the existing traffic prediction methods cannot achieve satisfactory results, mainly because of three factors: the structure is too simple to extract deep features; many external factors are overlooks, such as weather and traffic incidents; the nonlinearity of traffic flow is not well handled. To solve the problem, this paper improves the deep belief network (DBN), a deep learning method, for accurate traffic prediction under poor weather. Firstly, the data of poor weather and traffic data were collected from IoV, rather than induction coils in traditional methods. Next, the support vector regression (SVR) was introduced to improve the classic DBN. In the improved DBN, the underlying structure is a traditional DBN that learns the key features of traffic data in an unsupervised manner, and the top layer is an SVR that performs supervised traffic prediction. To verify its effectiveness, the improved DBN was applied to predict the traffic data based on the traffic data from the control center of an expressway and the weather data from local monitoring stations, in comparison with the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model and the traditional neural network. The experimental results show that the improved DBN controlled the traffic prediction error within 9%, and maintained good robustness despite the extension of the time interval. To sum up, this paper provides an effective way to predict traffic flow under poor weather, shedding new light on the application of deep learning in traffic prediction.

Contour parallel tool paths have been proved to be a preferred machining strategy for their advantage of less tool retractions and less sharp turns. The traditional geometrical algorithm-based tool path generation method often makes it hard to simply and simultaneously solve the problems of self-intersection, no residual, and smoothness at the same time due to their contradictions. To address this issue, a contoured parallel tool path generation method for pocket machining is developed in this study. It is based on sound field synthesis theory inspired by the phenomenon of sound wave propagation. Firstly, the simplified medial axis (SMA) tree of the pocket is extracted and the propagation direction of each SMA segment is calculated on account of the geometric characteristics of the pocket boundary. Secondly, the final tool path is obtained through the synthesis of the sound field. Finally, the novel method is verified on five different pockets to generate a contoured parallel milling tool path. After machining these pockets and measuring the machining time, roughness, and cutting force, the experimental results demonstrate that the tool path obtained by the novel method has advantages in improving machining quality and efficiency.

Chiral functional materials with circularly polarized luminescence can be used in various applications but rarely reported. Here the authors show, a complex system, which show intense circularly polarized ultraviolet luminescence with large glum value, enabling a chiral UV light triggered enantioselective polymerization.

There may be close links among yeast protein (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) supplementation, gut microbiota and skeletal muscle aging. In present study, nineteen-month-old mice received yeast protein (1.0 g/kg/d) for three months by gavage. Histological and ultrasonographical improvements in muscle as well as an increase in myofiber size were observed after yeast protein supplementation. Moreover, yeast protein activated Akt/mTOR/4E-BP1 pathway and regulated myogenic regulatory factors (Myog, Myf4, Myf5, and Myod1) to promote muscle protein synthesis and muscle regeneration and differentiation. Meanwhile, alpha and beta diversities as well as the ratio of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were elevated after yeast protein supplementation. Changes in the abundance of gut microbiota after yeast protein supplementation were significantly correlated with glycan biosynthesis and metabolism, amino acid metabolism and lipid metabolism, closely involved in the process of muscle aging. Hence, yeast protein supplementation could contribute to ameliorating muscle aging, which may be associated with gut microbiota.

To optimize the flowback system of shale gas horizontal wells after fracturing and to maximize the production capacity of gas wells, pipe flow and flowback models of shale gas multistage fractured horizontal wells were established based on the actual geological engineering conditions and the fracture parameters inverted from automatic history matching by combining experimental and numerical simulation methods. Optimization of the maximum choke size, reasonable opening choke size, replacement stages, and choke replacement frequency were studied. The research results show that the larger the production pressure difference in the early period, the higher the initial gas production rate but the easier the migration of proppant and the higher its stress sensitivity, which increases the permeability damage and weakens the reservoir recovery ability. Thus, the fracture conductivity gets worse and the later gas production rate and liquid production rate get lower. Specifically, the research results mainly include the following: (1) The laboratory experiment results show that the effective stress exceeding 19 MPa caused a proppant breakage and embedding phenomenon, leading to difficult recovery from reservoir permeability damage. Therefore, the maximum production pressure difference corresponding to the single-well maximum choke size shall not exceed 19 MPa. (2) A small opening choke size of a shale gas well is superior to the large one, and according to the numerical simulation, the choke size of 3 mm is recommended to be the reasonable opening choke size. (3) Under the drainage and production systems of replacing the choke size from small to large, the simulation results indicate that the production effect under the drainage and production systems of increasing the choke size incrementally stage by stage with an increase in amplitude of 1 mm is much better than that under the drainage and production systems of increasing the choke size by skipping the stage. (4) When the choke size is increased stage by stage, the research results indicate that the optimal duration of each grade of choke size is 3 days, beyond which, the increase of EUR will not be remarkable. The application of the proposed fine choke system research method in Well-CN001 indicates that the influence amplitude of the reasonable choke system on the daily gas production of Well-CN001 is in the range of 65.96%–121.67% and that on single-well EUR increase amplitude in 20 years is in the range of 5.2%–22.27%. The research results provide technical support for understanding the influence of different choke systems on the productivity of shale gas wells and optimizing the reasonable drainage and production systems of shale gas wells after fracturing.

Due to the complexity of the marine environment, in deep-sea drilling, all kinds of strings are corroded by different deep-sea conditions for a long time, accompanied by high temperature and high pressure, which lead to the continuous change of mechanical properties of materials. In order to solve the problem that the material mechanical parameters cannot be accurately described in the performance analysis of the casing, deep-sea simulated corrosion and material damage experiments of P110 material were carried out in this paper. Mass loss and tensile experiments on corrosion-damaged test pieces were conducted under different corrosion experimental periods. The changes in mechanical properties of the material were analyzed. Equations of the variation of the equivalent yield strength and the equivalent tensile strength were obtained. The results show that the equivalent yield strength and the equivalent tensile strength decrease with the increase of the weight loss rate. Based on the experimental results and finite element analysis, a method for establishing the material corrosion model was proposed in this paper. The deep-sea drilling corrosion performance model of P110 material was established, which greatly reduced the error caused by the material uniformity assumption in finite element analysis. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the analysis of reliability and life of P110 materials in wells.

Abstract The age‐related loss of muscle mass and muscle function known as sarcopenia is a primary contributor to the problems faced by the old people. Sarcopenia has been a major public health problem with high prevalence in many countries. The related underlying molecular mechanisms of sarcopenia are not completely understood. This review is focused on the potential mechanisms and current research strategies for sarcopenia with the aim of facilitating the recognition and treatment of age‐related sarcopenia. Previous studies suggested that protein synthesis and degradation, autophagy, impaired satellite cell activation, mitochondria dysfunction, and other factors associated with muscle weakness and muscle degeneration may be potential molecular pathophysiology of sarcopenia. Importantly, we also prospectively highlight that exosomes (small vesicles) as carriers can regulate muscle regeneration and protein synthesis according to recent researches. Dietary strategies and exercise represent the interventions that can also alleviate the progression of sarcopenia. At last, building on recent studies pointing to exosomes with the roles in increasing muscle regeneration, mediating the beneficial effects of exercise, and serving as messengers of intercellular communication and as carriers for research strategies of many diseases, we propose that exosomes could be a potential research direction or strategies of sarcopenia in the future.

The associations among maternal diet, birth weight, and gestational weight gain are still inconclusive. This study aimed to investigate the associations between maternal dietary patterns and birth weight, and further explore whether GWG mediates these associations. A total of 3,334 pregnant women who completed a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire from the Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort were included. Dietary patterns were extracted by using principal component analysis. Regression models and mediation analyses were performed to explore the associations between dietary patterns and birth weight and the effects of GWG on these associations. Five dietary patterns were identified: “Beans-vegetables,” “Fish-meat-eggs,” “Nuts-whole grains,” “Organ-poultry-seafood” and “Rice-wheat-fruits.” Only women following the “Beans-vegetables” pattern had heavier newborns (β = 47.39; 95% CI: 12.25, 82.54). Women following the “Beans-vegetables” pattern had significantly lower GWG (β = −0.7; 95% CI: −1.15, −0.25) and had a 16% lower risk of excessive GWG and 11% higher odd of adequate GWG. The association between the “Beans-vegetables” pattern and birth weight was negatively mediated by GWG. A dietary pattern enriched in beans and vegetables is beneficial for effectively controlling GWG and increasing birth weight. Emerging evidence indicates that extracellular vesicle (EV)-encapsulated circRNAs have the potential diagnostic and prognostic values for malignancies. However, the role of circNRIP1 in osteosarcoma remains unclear. We herein investigated the therapeutic potential of circNRIP1 delivered by bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell–derived EVs (BMSC-EVs) in osteosarcoma. The expression of circNRIP1 was examined in the clinical tissue samples of osteosarcoma patients, after which the downstream genes of circNRIP1 were bioinformatically predicted. Gain- and loss-of function assays were then performed in osteosarcoma cells with manipulation of circNRIP1 and miR-532-3p expression. EVs isolated from BMSCs were characterized and co-cultured with osteosarcoma cells to examine their effects on cell phenotypes, as reflected by CCK-8 and Transwell assays. Further, a mouse model of tumor xenografts was established for in vivo substantiation. circNRIP1 was upregulated in osteosarcoma tissues and cells. Overexpression of circNRIP1 promoted the proliferative, migratory, and invasive potential of osteosarcoma cells. Co-culture data showed that BMSC-EVs could transfer circNRIP1 into osteosarcoma cells where it competitively bound to miR-532-3p and weakened miR-532-3p’s binding ability to AKT3. By this mechanism, the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was activated and the malignant characteristics of osteosarcoma cells were stimulated. In vivo experimental results unveiled that circNRIP1-overexpressing BMSC-EVs in nude mice resulted in enhanced tumor growth. In conclusion, the BMSC-EV-enclosed circNRIP1 revealed a new molecular mechanism in the pathogenesis of osteosarcoma, which might provide a novel therapeutic target for osteosarcoma.
