1. Which global reanalysis dataset has better representativeness in snow cover on the Tibetan Plateau?

Abstract: The extensive snow cover across the Tibetan Plateau (TP) has a major influence on the climate and water supply for over 1 billion downstream inhabitants. However, an adequate evaluation of variability in the snow cover fraction (SCF) over the TP simulated by multiple reanalysis datasets has yet to be undertaken. In this study, we used the Snow Property Inversion from Remote Sensing (SPIReS) SCF dataset for the water years (WYs) 2001–2017 to evaluate the capabilities of eight reanalysis datasets (HMASR, MERRA2, ERA5, ERA5L, JRA55, CFSR, CRAL, and GLDAS) in simulating the spatial and temporal variability in SCF in the TP. CFSR, GLDAS, CRAL, and HMASR are good in simulating the spatial pattern of climatological SCF, with lower bias and higher correlation and Taylor skill score (SS). By contrast, ERA5L, JRA55, and ERA5 have a relatively good performance in terms of SCF annual trends among eight reanalysis datasets. The biases in SCF simulations across reanalysis datasets are influenced by a combination of meteorological forcings, including snowfall and temperature, as well as by the SCF parameterization methods. However, the primary influencing factors vary among the reanalysis datasets. Additionally, averaging multiple reanalysis datasets can enhance the spatiotemporal accuracy of SCF simulations, but this enhancement effect does not consistently increase with the number of reanalysis datasets used.

Abstract: Abstract The multi-staged XENON program at INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso aims to detect dark matter with two-phase liquid xenon time projection chambers of increasing size and sensitivity. The XENONnT experiment is the latest detector in the program, planned to be an upgrade of its predecessor XENON1T. It features an active target of 5.9 tonnes of cryogenic liquid xenon (8.5 tonnes total mass in cryostat). The experiment is expected to extend the sensitivity to WIMP dark matter by more than an order of magnitude compared to XENON1T, thanks to the larger active mass and the significantly reduced background, improved by novel systems such as a radon removal plant and a neutron veto. This article describes the XENONnT experiment and its sub-systems in detail and reports on the detector performance during the first science run.

3. Dust storms from the Taklamakan Desert significantly darken snow surface on surrounding mountains

Abstract: The Taklamakan Desert (TD) is a major source of mineral dust emissions into the atmosphere. These dust particles have the ability to darken the surface of snow on the surrounding high mountains after deposition, significantly impacting the regional radiation balance. However, previous field measurements have been unable to capture the effects of severe dust storms accurately, and their representation on regional scales has been inadequate. In this study, we propose a modified remote-sensing approach that combines data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite and simulations from the Snow, Ice, and Aerosol Radiative (SNICAR) model. This approach allows us to detect and analyze the substantial snow darkening resulting from dust storm deposition. We focus on three typical dust events originating from the Taklamakan Desert and observe significant snow darkening over an area of ∼ 2160, ∼ 610, and ∼ 640 km2 in the Tien Shan, Kunlun, and Qilian mountains, respectively. Our findings reveal that the impact of dust storms extends beyond the local high mountains, reaching mountains located approximately 1000 km away from the source. Furthermore, we observe that dust storms not only darken the snowpack during the spring but also in the summer and autumn seasons, leading to increased absorption of solar radiation. Specifically, the snow albedo reduction (radiative forcing) triggered by severe dust deposition is up to 0.028–0.079 (11–31.5 W m−2), 0.088–0.136 (31–49 W m−2), and 0.092–0.153 (22–38 W m−2) across the Tien Shan, Kunlun, and Qilian mountains, respectively. This further contributes to the aging of the snow, as evidenced by the growth of snow grain size. Comparatively, the impact of persistent but relatively slow dust deposition over several months during non-event periods is significantly lower than that of individual dust events. This highlights the necessity of giving more attention to the influence of extreme events on the regional radiation balance. This study provides a deeper understanding of how a single dust event can affect the extensive snowpack and demonstrates the potential of employing satellite remote sensing to monitor large-scale snow darkening.

Abstract: Abstract Xenon dual-phase time projections chambers (TPCs) have proven to be a successful technology in studying physical phenomena that require low-background conditions. With $$40\,\textrm{t}$$ 40 t of liquid xenon (LXe) in the TPC baseline design, DARWIN will have a high sensitivity for the detection of particle dark matter, neutrinoless double beta decay ( $$0\upnu \upbeta \upbeta $$ 0 ν β β ), and axion-like particles (ALPs). Although cosmic muons are a source of background that cannot be entirely eliminated, they may be greatly diminished by placing the detector deep underground. In this study, we used Monte Carlo simulations to model the cosmogenic background expected for the DARWIN observatory at four underground laboratories: Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) and SNOLAB. We present here the results of simulations performed to determine the production rate of $${}^{137}$$ 137 Xe, the most crucial isotope in the search for $$0\upnu \upbeta \upbeta $$ 0 ν β β of $${}^{136}$$ 136 Xe. Additionally, we explore the contribution that other muon-induced spallation products, such as other unstable xenon isotopes and tritium, may have on the cosmogenic background.

Abstract: The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitter established by observations with ground-based gamma-ray detectors. Here we report the long-term monitoring of M87 from 2021 to 2024 with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). M87 has been detected by LHAASO with a statistical significance ∼ 9 σ . The observed energy spectrum extends to 20 TeV, with a possible hardening at ∼20 TeV and then a clear softening at higher energies. Assuming that the intrinsic spectrum is described by a single power law up to 20 TeV, a tight upper bound on the extragalactic background light intensity is obtained. A strong VHE flare lasting 8 days, with a rise time of ${\tau }_{r}^{\mathrm{rise}}=1.05\pm 0.49$ days and decay time of ${\tau }_{d}^{\mathrm{decay}}=2.17\pm 0.58$ days, was found in early 2022. A possible GeV flare is seen also in Fermi Large Area Telescope data during the VHE flare period. The variability time as short as 1 day seen in the LHAASO data suggests a compact emission region with a size of ∼3 × 10 ^15 δ cm ( δ being the Doppler factor of the emitting region), corresponding to a few Schwarzschild radii of the central supermassive black hole in M87. The continuous monitoring of the source reveals a duty cycle of ∼1% for VHE flares with a flux above 10 ^−11 erg cm ^−2 s ^−1 .

Abstract: The first source catalog of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) reported the detection of a very high energy gamma-ray source, 1LHAASO J1219+2915. This Letter presents a further detailed study of the spectral and temporal behavior of this pointlike source. The best-fit position of the TeV source (R.A. = 185.°05 ± 0.°04, decl. = 29.°25 ± 0.°03) is compatible with NGC 4278 within ∼0.°03. Variation analysis shows an indication of variability on a timescale of a few months in the TeV band, which is consistent with low-frequency observations. Based on these observations, we report the detection of TeV γ -ray emissions from this low-luminosity active galactic nucleus. The observation by LHAASO's Water Cherenkov Detector Array during the active period has a significance level of 8.8 σ with a best-fit photon spectral index Γ = 2.56 ± 0.14 and a flux f _1–10 TeV = (7.0 ± 1.1 _sta ± 0.35 _syst ) × 10 ^−13 photons cm ^−2 s ^−1 , or approximately 5% of the Crab Nebula. The discovery of VHE gamma-ray emission from NGC 4278 indicates that compact, weak radio jets can efficiently accelerate particles and emit TeV photons.

7. Optimal Control Method for Congestion Control and Delay Reduction in Deterministic Networks

Abstract: The proliferation of the types and number of the beyond fifth generation / the six generation (B5G/6G) network services will contribute to severe network congestion collapse, which is detrimental to deterministic service assurance for time-sensitive businesses. Faced with the congestion control problem in deterministic networks, the regulation and control effect of network macroscopic congestion state on the node various microscopic control strategies should be sufficiently considered from a global view. In this paper, a congestion control system model is constructed, which includes node-level congestion states and control strategies and network-level optimization objective. Continuous congestion state transition and real-time control strategy selection are analyzed to minimize the network delay and congestion degree with the lowest control cost. The analytical solution to optimal control strategy is derived based on the optimal control theory, and the numerical solution is analyzed by proposing a congestion control discretization algorithm (CCDA). Simulation results demonstrate that the congestion degree of each network node gradually decreases with the obtained CCDA strategies. The impacts of model parameters such as congestion deterioration probability and delay weight coefficients on the evolution of network total loss and optimal strategies are also analyzed. Moreover, the network total loss of the proposed congestion control model is lower than the baseline model, which can provide effective and referable theoretical guidance for congestion control problem in deterministic networks.

8. Fluorescence characteristics, absorption properties, and radiative effects of water-soluble organic carbon in seasonal snow across northeastern China

Abstract: Water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) in the cryosphere can significantly influence the global carbon cycle and radiation budget. However, WSOC in the snowpack has received little scientific attention to date. This study reports the fluorescence characteristics, absorption properties, and radiative effects of WSOC based on 34 snow samples collected from sites in northeastern China. A significant degree of regional WSOC variability is found, with concentrations ranging from 0.5±0.2 to 5.7±3.7 µg g−1 (average concentration: 3.6±3.2 µg g−1). The three principal fluorescent components of WSOC are identified as (1) the high-oxygenated humic-like substances (HULIS-1) of terrestrial origin, (2) the low-oxygenated humic-like substances (HULIS-2) of mixed origin, and (3) the protein-like substances (PRLIS) derived from autochthonous microbial activity. In southeastern Inner Mongolia (SEIM), a region dominated by desert and exposed soils, the WSOC exhibits the highest humification index (HIX) but the lowest fluorescence (FI) and biological (BIX) indices; the fluorescence signal is mainly attributed to HULIS-1 and thus implicates soil as the primary source. By contrast, the HIX (FI and BIX) value is the lowest (highest), and the percentage of PRLIS is the highest in the remote area of northeastern Inner Mongolia (NEIM), suggesting a primarily biological source. For south and north of northeastern China (SNC and NNC), both of which are characterized by intensive agriculture and industrial activity, the fluorescence signal is dominated by HULIS-2, and the HIX, FI, and BIX values are all moderate, indicating the mixed origins for WSOC (anthropogenic activity, microbial activity, and soil). We also observe that, throughout northeastern China, the light absorption of WSOC is dominated by HULIS-1, followed by HULIS-2 and PRLIS. The contribution of WSOC to albedo reduction (average concentration: 3.6 µg g−1) in the ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) band is approximately half that of black carbon (BC average concentration: 0.6 µg g−1). Radiative forcing is 3.8 (0.8) W m−2 in old (fresh) snow, equating to 19 % (17 %) of the radiative forcing of BC. These results indicate that WSOC has a profound impact on snow albedo and the solar radiation balance.

Abstract: We present the first catalog of very-high-energy and ultra-high-energy gamma-ray sources detected by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory. The catalog was compiled using 508 days of data collected by the Water Cherenkov Detector Array from 2021 March to 2022 September and 933 days of data recorded by the Kilometer Squared Array from 2020 January to 2022 September. This catalog represents the main result from the most sensitive large coverage gamma-ray survey of the sky above 1 TeV, covering decl. from −20° to 80°. In total, the catalog contains 90 sources with an extended size smaller than 2° and a significance of detection at >5 σ . Based on our source association criteria, 32 new TeV sources are proposed in this study. Among the 90 sources, 43 sources are detected with ultra-high energy ( E > 100 TeV) emission at >4 σ significance level. We provide the position, extension, and spectral characteristics of all the sources in this catalog.

Abstract: The strengthening effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in Al matrix composites (AMCs) is significantly weakened by CNTs agglomeration and unsubstantial interfacial bonding with the Al matrix. In this study, CNTs were grown on the surface of Ti particles by chemical vapor deposition to obtain CNTs@Ti hybrid reinforcement, followed by powder metallurgy to prepare CNTs@Ti/Al composites. Evenly dispersed CNTs with good structural integrity were successfully obtained using the carrying effect of the micron-sized Ti particles. Meanwhile, TiC, Al4C3, and TiAl3 were generated at the CNT/Al interface, which strengthened the bearing capacity of the inner-wall of the CNTs, improved the wettability of the CNT/Al interface, and enhanced the strain-hardening ability of the Al matrix. The deficiencies in the CNTs/Al composites are compensated by this kind of materials design, and the two types of reinforcements have a synergistic strengthening effect, which greatly improves the comprehensive mechanical properties of AMCs. An excellent interface structure is formed by controlling the interface reaction such that the dispersion, grain boundary, dislocation, and load transfer strengthening mechanisms are fully realized.

Abstract: Abstract The focal plane camera is the core component of the Wide Field-of-view Cherenkov/fluorescence Telescope Array (WFCTA) of the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Because of the capability of working under moonlight without aging, silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) have been proven to be not only an alternative but also an improvement to conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMT) in this application. Eighteen SiPM-based cameras with square light funnels have been built for WFCTA. The telescopes have collected more than 100 million cosmic ray events and preliminary results indicate that these cameras are capable of working under moonlight. The characteristics of the light funnels and SiPMs pose challenges (e.g. dynamic range, dark count rate, assembly techniques). In this paper, we present the design features, manufacturing techniques and performances of these cameras. Finally, the test facilities, the test methods and results of SiPMs in the cameras are reported here.

Abstract: Super-austenitic stainless steels (SASS) are alloys with better performance in industrial applications in comparison with standard degrees of austenitic stainless steels (ASS), mainly because of elevated Ni and Mo contents and residual control of certain elements because the improvement of refine techniques. These facts, promotes an improvement of mechanical properties and minimize detrimental effects of intergranular corrosion. Besides, some industrial applications involve high temperatures services, because these alloys families have an excellent creep and oxidation resistances performances. In this work, the objective is evaluate the microstructural and mechanical properties in high Mo SASS exposed at 600˚C in specimens aged until 2000 hours. Thus, hardness and toughness values and Double Loop Electrochemical Potentiodynamic Reactivation (DL-EPR) measurements were analyzed in several thermal aging in comparison to solution treatment condition. Complementary, analysis by Light Optical (LOM), of specimens tested by DL-EPR, and Scanning Electron Microscopies (SEM) in fractured surface from Charpy specimens were also analysed by SEM by backscattered electron mode (BSE). The results show that the aging provokes intergranular embrittlement by inhomogeneous distribution in grain boundaries of Mo rich phase precipitation.

Abstract: Abstract We detail the sensitivity of the proposed liquid xenon DARWIN observatory to solar neutrinos via elastic electron scattering. We find that DARWIN will have the potential to measure the fluxes of five solar neutrino components: pp, $$^7$$ 7 Be, $$^{13}$$ 13 N, $$^{15}$$ 15 O and pep. The precision of the $$^{13}$$ 13 N, $$^{15}$$ 15 O and pep components is hindered by the double-beta decay of $$^{136}$$ 136 Xe and, thus, would benefit from a depleted target. A high-statistics observation of pp neutrinos would allow us to infer the values of the electroweak mixing angle, $$\sin ^2\theta _w$$ sin 2 θ w , and the electron-type neutrino survival probability, $$P_{ee}$$ P ee , in the electron recoil energy region from a few keV up to 200 keV for the first time, with relative precision of 5% and 4%, respectively, with 10 live years of data and a 30 tonne fiducial volume. An observation of pp and $$^7$$ 7 Be neutrinos would constrain the neutrino-inferred solar luminosity down to 0.2%. A combination of all flux measurements would distinguish between the high- (GS98) and low-metallicity (AGS09) solar models with 2.1–2.5 $$\sigma $$ σ significance, independent of external measurements from other experiments or a measurement of $$^8$$ 8 B neutrinos through coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering in DARWIN. Finally, we demonstrate that with a depleted target DARWIN may be sensitive to the neutrino capture process of $$^{131}$$ 131 Xe.

Abstract: Vision based obstacle detection using stereo images is an essential way for hazard avoidance and path planning in planetary rover missions. However, due to light condition changes and topographic relief, only partial or sparse three-dimensional points may be derived by image matching and triangulation reconstruction, which is not sufficient for recognizing obstacles. In this paper, we developed a strategy to detect obstacles using rover stereo images by combining both image grayscale information and sparse 3D point information. Experiments were carried out using stereo images captured by navigation cameras mounted on the Yutu rover of Chang’e-3 mission. Moreover, how obstacle localization accuracy affected by the parameters are analysed and discussed.

Abstract: RGB-D camera allows the capture of depth and color information at high data rates, and this makes it possible and beneficial integrate depth and image sequences for planetary rover mapping. The proposed mapping method consists of three steps. First, the strict projection relationship among 3D space, depth data and visual texture data is established based on the imaging principle of RGB-D camera, then, an extended bundle adjustment (BA) based SLAM method with integrated 2D and 3D measurements is applied to the image network for high-precision pose estimation. Next, as the interior and exterior elements of RGB images sequence are available, dense matching is completed with the CMPMVS tool. Finally, according to the registration parameters after ICP, the 3D scene from RGB images can be registered to the 3D scene from depth images well, and the fused point cloud can be obtained. Experiment was performed in an outdoor field to simulate the lunar surface. The experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract: The return waveform of satellite laser altimeter plays vital role in the satellite parameters designation, data processing and application. In this paper, a method of refined full waveform simulation is proposed based on the reflectivity of the ground target, the true emission waveform and the Laser Profile Array (LPA). The ICESat/GLAS data is used as the validation data. Finally, we evaluated the simulation accuracy with the correlation coefficient. It was found that the accuracy of echo simulation could be significantly improved by considering the reflectivity of the ground target and the emission waveform. However, the laser intensity distribution recorded by the LPA has little effect on the echo simulation accuracy when compared with the distribution of the simulated laser energy. At last, we proposed a refinement idea by analyzing the experimental results, in the hope of providing references for the waveform data simulation and processing of GF-7 satellite in the future.

Abstract: Feature detection and matching are key techniques in computer vision and robotics, and have been successfully implemented in many fields. So far there is no performance comparison of feature detectors and matching methods for planetary mapping and rover localization using rover stereo images. In this research, we present a comprehensive evaluation and comparison of six feature detectors, including Moravec, Förstner, Harris, FAST, SIFT and SURF, aiming for optimal implementation of feature-based matching in planetary surface environment. To facilitate quantitative analysis, a series of evaluation criteria, including distribution evenness of matched points, coverage of detected points, and feature matching accuracy, are developed in the research. In order to perform exhaustive evaluation, stereo images, simulated under different baseline, pitch angle, and interval of adjacent rover locations, are taken as experimental data source. The comparison results show that SIFT offers the best overall performance, especially it is less sensitive to changes of image taken at adjacent locations.

Abstract: Abstract Using 7.33 fb −1 of e + e − collision data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, we search for the radiative decay D s + → γρ 770 + $$ {D}_s^{+}\to \gamma \rho {(770)}^{+} $$ for the first time. A hint of D s + → γρ 770 + $$ {D}_s^{+}\to \gamma \rho {(770)}^{+} $$ is observed with a statistical significance of 2.5σ. The branching fraction of D s + → γρ 770 + $$ {D}_s^{+}\to \gamma \rho {(770)}^{+} $$ is measured to be (2.2 ± 0.9stat. ± 0.2syst. ) × 10 −4, corresponding to an upper limit of 6.1 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

19. ESTIMATION OF REGIONAL FOREST ABOVEGROUND BIOMASS COMBINING ICESAT-GLAS WAVEFORMS AND HJ-1A/HSI HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGERIES

Abstract: Estimation of forest aboveground biomass (AGB) is a critical challenge for understanding the global carbon cycle because it dominates the dynamics of the terrestrial carbon cycle. Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) system has a unique capability for estimating accurately forest canopy height, which has a direct relationship and can provide better understanding to the forest AGB. The Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) onboard the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) is the first polarorbiting LiDAR instrument for global observations of Earth, and it has been widely used for extracting forest AGB with footprints of nominally 70 m in diameter on the earth's surface. However, the GLAS footprints are discrete geographically, and thus it has been restricted to produce the regional full coverage of forest AGB. To overcome the limit of discontinuity, the Hyper Spectral Imager (HSI) of HJ-1A with 115 bands was combined with GLAS waveforms to predict the regional forest AGB in the study. Corresponding with the field investigation in Wangqing of Changbai Mountain, China, the GLAS waveform metrics were derived and employed to establish the AGB model, which was used further for estimating the AGB within GLAS footprints. For HSI imagery, the Minimum Noise Fraction (MNF) method was used to decrease noise and reduce the dimensionality of spectral bands, and consequently the first three of MNF were able to offer almost 98% spectral information and qualified to regress with the GLAS estimated AGB. Afterwards, the support vector regression (SVR) method was employed in the study to establish the relationship between GLAS estimated AGB and three of HSI MNF (i.e. MNF1, MNF2 and MNF3), and accordingly the full covered regional forest AGB map was produced. The results showed that the adj.R2 and RMSE of SVR-AGB models were 0.75 and 4.68 t hm−2 for broadleaf forests, 0.73 and 5.39 t hm−2 for coniferous forests and 0.71 and 6.15 t hm−2 for mixed forests respectively. The full covered regional forest AGB map of the study area had 0.62 of accuracy and 11.11 t hm−2 of RMSE. The study demonstrated that it holds great potential to achieve the full covered regional forest AGB distribution with higher accuracy by combing LiDAR data and hyperspectral imageries.

20. Deep levels induced optical memory effect in thin InGaN film

Abstract: An optical memory effect is found in a 20 nm InGaN film. With increasing illumination time, photoluminescence (PL) intensity of InGaN rises at first and then falls. We present that this effect is caused by carriers capture in deep levels near interfaces between GaN and InGaN. Firstly, carriers captured by deep levels near the interfaces reduces the band inclination in InGaN. This cause the rise of PL intensity. Secondly, more and more captured carriers may form anti-shielding, which enhances band inclination and results in the decrease of PL intensity. Carriers captured in previous illumination can remain for a long time after illumination is blocked, which make InGaN show an optical memory effect.

Abstract: Reducing the resistivity of low temperature grown p-Al0.09Ga0.91N layers is crucial to improving the performance of GaN-based laser diodes. In this study, growth conditions of low temperature grown p-Al0.09Ga0.91N layers are monitored and the role of C impurity is investigated systematically. On the basis of the dependence of resistivity on C concentration and the photoluminescence analysis, it is found that C impurities act as donors in p-Al0.09Ga0.91N layer, and reducing the C concentration can reduce its compensation effect on Mg acceptor. Finally, a low resistivity of 4.2 Ω·cm is achieved for the low temperature grown p-Al0.09Ga0.91N.

22. Analytical investigations on the thermal properties of microscale inorganic light-emitting diodes on an orthotropic substrate

Abstract: The microscale inorganic light-emitting diodes (μ-ILEDs) create novel opportunities in biointegrated applications such as wound healing acceleration and optogenetics. Analytical expressions, validated by finite element analysis, are obtained for the temperature increase of a rectangular μ-ILED device on an orthotropic substrate, which could offer an appealing advantage in controlling the heat flow direction to achieve the goal in thermal management. The influences of various parameters (e.g., thermal conductivities of orthotropic substrate, loading parameters) on the temperature increase of the μ-ILED are investigated based on the obtained closed-form solutions. These results provide a novel route to control the temperature distribution in the μ-ILED system and provide easily interpretable guidelines to minimize the adverse thermal effects.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Most construction projects involve use of construction machines, construction plant manager has to consider both timeliness and flexibility to develop an efficient schedule of dispatching construction machines, which can balance the operations at different construction sites. In this paper, we constructed an optimization model with multi-target as construction quality, time limit, efficiency and cost. The model consists of a database, a rule- based system and multi-target decision making modules. The database includes detailed data about construction machine types and their properties. The rule-based system module provides rules, which are utilized by inference engine for determining the most proper construction machine type. Ultimately, a final decision is made for the most proper construction machine among the alternatives of the same type using the information axiom of axiomatic design principles. In order to verify the validity of the model, evaluation of alternatives is made for the cases of both complete and incomplete information.

Abstract: A novel protocol for plant regeneration from cotyledon explants of eggplant (Solanum melongena) reducing concentration of sucrose was established. The most efficient bud induction medium consisted of Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2.0 mg dm-3 zeatin, 0.1 mg dm-3 indoleacetic acid and 10 g dm-3 sucrose. After 15 d, the shoot buds were fragmented and transferred to the shoot elongation MS supplemented with 1.0-2.0 mg dm-3 gibberellic acid and 4.0-8.0 mg dm-3 AgNO3, which promoted shoots elongation. The genetic stability of the regenerated plants was analyzed by flow cytometry, RAPD and SSR molecular markers. The results indicated that almost no somaclonal variation was detected among the regenerants.

26. A Color Image Watermarking Scheme Resistant against Geometrical Attacks

Abstract: The geometrical attacks are still a problem for many digital watermarking algorithms at present. In this paper, we propose a watermarking algorithm for color images resistant to geometrical distortions (rotation and scaling). The singular value decomposition is used for watermark embedding and extraction. The log-polar map- ping (LPM) and phase correlation method are used to register the position of geometrical distortion suffered by the watermarked image. Experiments with different kinds of color images and watermarks demonstrate that the watermarking algorithm is robust to common image processing attacks, especially geometrical attacks.

Abstract: We visualize water utilization in China from source to service and onward to destination, using a Sankey diagram to analyse the energy-water nexus at the national level. Among total water usage in China, about53.4 % ultimately enters the atmosphere through evaporation and evapotranspiration; and 20.7 % and 6.4% flows out to other countries or to salt basins, respectively. Only 0.4 % is re-used after sewage treatment and reclamation. The electricity required for water supply, treatment, utilization and post-use utilization comprised about 4–10 % of total national electricity consumption in 2009. Water used by energy-related industry represents an important contribution (about 14 %) of total water consumption and withdrawal in this country.

Abstract: SUMMARYObjectiveTo evaluate the influence of different surface treatments on topography, surface roughness, surface energy, and microtensile bond strength stability of resin cement to lithium disilicate glass ceramic.Methods and MaterialsSeventy disc-shaped specimens of IPS e.max Press were divided into seven groups according to the surface treatment: NT – non-treated (control); FSil − hydrofluoric acid (HF) + silane; FPSil − HF + phosphoric acid (HP) + silane; FUSil − HF + ultrasonic bath (U) + silane; FPUSil − HF + HP + U + silane; MEP − Monobond Etch and Prime (MEP); and MEPH − MEP + heating. Topography and surface roughness were evaluated using a 3D laser confocal microscope (3DLCM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface energy with a goniometer. The microtensile bond strength (μTBS) was evaluated after storage in distilled water at 37°C for 24 hours and after thermocycling (5,000 cycles, 5°–55° C, 30-second dwell time). Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA (surface roughness and surface energy), two-way ANOVA (μTBS), Tukey′s HSD post-hoc test, and Student t-test (α=0.05).ResultsFUSil, FPSil, and FSil presented similar and highest surface roughness, whereas NT, FPUSil, MEP, and MEPH showed similar, and lowest, roughness values (pConclusionOnly FSil, FPSil, and MEPH maintained bond strength stability after thermocycling, with FPSil leading to less bond strength reduction, suggesting this protocol is more reliable for bonding resin cements to lithium disilicate glass ceramics.

Background It is well known that atrial fibrillation (AF) confers a substantially increased risk of ischemic stroke, but data on health benefits from AF screening are scarce. The newly proposed MVP risk score combining the duration, voltage and morphology of P-wave has been demonstrated to be predictive of AF and might therefore also be useful in risk-stratifying individuals for AF screening and subsequent treatment. Purpose The present study sought to examine MVP risk score and its P-wave components for prediction of AF screening effects. Methods The LOOP Study randomized AF-naïve individuals aged 70-90 years with additional stroke risk factors to either continuous AF screening with implantable loop recorder (ILR) and subsequent anticoagulation initiation upon detection of AF episode ≥6 minutes, or usual care. In this secondary analysis, the LOOP participants with a baseline 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) suitable for P-wave measurement were included. Results Of 5759 participants included, 265 (4.6%) had had ischemic stroke during follow-up: 213 (4.9%) of 4311 in the control group versus 64 (3.6%) of 1448 in the ILR group. Among the participants in the control group, a significantly increased risk of ischemic stroke was observed for MVP score 5-6 versus score 0-2 (hazard ratio (HR) 1.66 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-2.75]) and for the presence of interatrial block (IAB) versus no IAB (HR 1.85 [95% CI: 1.19-2.86]), whereas a P-wave voltage in lead I (PWVI) 110 versus ≤110 ms). Compared with usual care, ILR screening did not significantly reduce the stroke risk regardless of MVP risk score, PWD, PWVI, or IAB pattern at baseline. Conclusions In an elderly population with additional stroke risk factors, both the P-wave parameters and the combined MVP risk score based on 12-lead ECG were associated with ischemic stroke, but these did not successfully demonstrate an association with effects of AF screening on stroke prevention.

Abstract: By analyzing 4.48 × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we observe the decays χ cJ → nK S 0 Λ ¯ $$ {nK}_S^0\overline{\Lambda} $$ + c.c. (J = 0, 1, 2) for the first time, via the radiative transition ψ(3686) → γχ cJ . The branching fractions are determined to be (6.65 ± 0.26stat ± 0.41syst) × 10 −4, (1.66 ± 0.12stat ± 0.12syst) × 10 −4, and (3.58 ± 0.16stat ± 0.23syst) × 10 −4 for J = 0, 1, and 2, respectively.

Abstract: A search for exotic dark matter (DM) in the sub-GeV mass range has been conducted using 205 kg$\cdot$day data taken from a p-type point contact germanium detector of CDEX-10 experiment at China Jinping underground laboratory. New low-mass dark matter searching channels, neutral current fermionic DM absorption ($\chi+A\rightarrow \nu+A$) and DM-nucleus 3$\rightarrow$2 scattering ($\chi+\chi+A\rightarrow \phi+A$), have been analyzed with an energy threshold of 160 eVee. No significant signal was found. Thus new limits on the DM-nucleon interaction cross section are set for both models at sub-GeV DM mass region. A cross section limit for the fermionic DM absorption is set to be $\rm 2.5\times 10^{-46} cm^2$(90\% C.L.) at DM mass of 10 MeV/c$^2$. For the DM-nucleus 3$\rightarrow$2 scattering scenario, limits are extended to DM mass of 5 MeV/c$^2$ and 14 MeV/c$^2$ for the massless dark photon and bound DM final state, respectively., Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: The kilometer square array (KM2A) of the large high altitude air shower observatory (LHAASO) aims at surveying the northern γ-ray sky at energies above 10 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity. γ-ray observations have long been one of the most powerful tools for dark matter searches, as, e.g., high-energy γ rays could be produced by the decays of heavy dark matter particles. In this Letter, we present the first dark matter analysis with LHAASO-KM2A, using the first 340 days of data from 1/2-KM2A and 230 days of data from 3/4-KM2A. Several regions of interest are used to search for a signal and account for the residual cosmic-ray background after γ/hadron separation. We find no excess of dark matter signals, and thus place some of the strongest γ-ray constraints on the lifetime of heavy dark matter particles with mass between 105 and 109 GeV. Our results with LHAASO are robust, and have important implications for dark matter interpretations of the diffuse astrophysical high-energy neutrino emission.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the feasibility of using vascular plaque quantification (VPQ) to evaluate carotid atherosclerotic plaques and to observe the effect of statins on carotid atherosclerotic plaques. METHODS: Patients with carotid plaques from January 2016 to September 2018 in Peking University First Hospital Neurology Department were recruited and underwent three-dimonsional ultrasound (3DUS). Their gray scale median (GSM) and other parameters of carotid plaques were measured with VPQ. The patients were divided into low GSM group (GSM < 40) and high GSM group (GSM≥40). The clinical characteristics and plaque characteristics of the patients in the two groups were compared to analyze the stability of plaques. According to whether taking statins or not, the patients were further divided into statin group and non-statin group, plaque GSM and other parameters of their carotid plaques were measured and the changes of carotid plaques at the end of 3 months and 2 years were observed. RESULTS: A total of 120 patients were enrolled, including 79 males and 41 females, with an average age of (65.39±9.11) years. The patients were divided into low GSM group (31 cases) (GSM < 40) and high GSM group (89 cases) (GSM≥40). The stenosis of the lumen in the low GSM group was more severe (the area stenosis rate was 41.32%±21.37% vs. 29.79%±17.16%, P < 0.05). The nor-malized wall index (NWI) of plaque in low GSM group was significantly higher than that in high GSM group (0.61 ±0.14 vs. 0.52±0.12, P < 0.01). A total of 77 patients, including 51 males and 26 females, aged (64.96±9.58) years, were enrolled to observe the statin effects on carotid plaque. They were divided into statin group (n=56) and non-statin group (n=21) according to whether taking statins or not. At the baseline and 3-month follow-up, there were no significant differences in carotid plaque volume, area, degree of luminal stenosis and GSM between the two groups (P>0.05). At the end of the 2-year follow-up, GSM increased in the statin group [median 10.00 (2.00, 28.00)] but decreased in the non-statin group [median －7.00 (－11.00, 5.50)], with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.01). There was no significant increase in carotid plaque volume in the statin group, while there was a slight increase in the non-statin group, but there was no significant difference between the two groups [median increase in plaque volume was 0.00 (－30.00, 40.00) mm(3) in the statin group and 30.00 (10.00, 70.00) mm(3) in the non-statin group, P>0.05]. CONCLUSION: The VPQ technology of 3DUS can be used to evaluate carotid atherosclerotic plaques. Patients with low GSM (GSM < 40) have more severe vascular stenosis and higher normalized wall index. VPQ technology can also be used to observe the effect of statins on carotid plaque, the GSM of plaques increase in patients who are taking moderate-intensity statin treatment for two years.

45. Screening for atrial fibrillation to prevent stroke in elderly individuals with or without preexisting cardiovascular disease

Abstract: Background Previous research has showed that various cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are associated with increased risks of atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke. However, data on the interaction between CVD and AF screening efficacy are lacking. Purpose To evaluate the influence of preexisting CVD on the effects of AF screening with long-term continuous monitoring. Methods The LOOP Study (Atrial Fibrillation detected by Continuous ECG Monitoring using Implantable Loop Recorder to prevent Stroke in High-risk Individuals) randomized AF-naïve individuals aged ≥70 years and with additional stroke risk factors to either long-term screening with implantable loop recorder (ILR) and subsequent anticoagulation initiation upon detection of AF episodes ≥6 minutes, or usual care (the control group). In the current study, all participants from the LOOP Study were divided into two risk groups according to the presence of CVD (defined as ischemic heart disease, heart failure, previous stroke, valvular heart disease, or peripheral artery disease). The relative risks of outcomes in groupwise comparisons, as indicated by hazard ratio (HR), were assessed in the cause-specific Cox proportional-hazards model with death as competing risk. Results Of 6004 participants included, 1997 (33.3%) had ≥1 CVD at baseline. Compared with no CVD, the presence of CVD was associated with increased risks of AF diagnosis in the ILR group (adjusted HR 1.32 [1.09–1.59]) and of stroke or systemic arterial embolism in the entire study cohort (adjusted HR 1.34 [1.06–1.69]). For ILR screening versus usual care, there was no decrease in stroke or systemic arterial embolism among participants with preexisting CVD (adjusted HR 1.13 [0.76–1.68]), whereas a significant risk reduction was obtained by screening among those without CVD (adjusted HR 0.64 [0.44–0.93]). The interaction was significant (adjusted p-value for interaction 0.041). Conclusions In an elderly, high-risk population, ILR screening did not prevent stroke significantly in individuals with preexisting CVD, but it was associated with an approximately 40% risk reduction among those without CVD. Abstract: Modern agricultural practices increase the potential for plant pathogen spread, while the advent of affordable whole genome sequencing enables in-depth studies of pathogen movement. Population genomic studies may decipher pathogen movement and population structure as a result of complex agricultural production systems. We used whole genome sequences of 281 Xanthomonas perforans strains collected within one tomato production season across Florida and southern Georgia fields to test for population genetic structure associated with tomato production system variables. We identified six clusters of X. perforans from core gene SNPs that corresponded with phylogenetic lineages. Using whole genome SNPs, we found genetic structure among farms, transplant facilities, cultivars, seed producers, grower operations, regions, and counties. Overall, grower operations that produced their own transplants were associated with genetically distinct and less diverse populations of strains compared to grower operations that received transplants from multiple sources. The degree of genetic differentiation among components of Florida’s tomato production system varied between clusters, suggesting differential dispersal of the strains, such as through seed or contaminated transplants versus local movement within farms. Overall, we showed that the genetic variation of a bacterial plant pathogen is shaped by the structure of the plant production system.

Abstract: The main scientific goal of LHAASO-WCDA is to survey gamma-ray sources with energy from 100 GeV to 30 TeV. To observe high-energy shower events, especially to measure the energy spectrum of cosmic rays from 100 TeV to 10 PeV, a dynamic range extension system (WCDA++) is designed to use a 1.5-inch PMT with a dynamic range of four orders of magnitude for each cell in WCDA-1. The dynamic range is extended by using these PMTs to measure the effective charge density in the core region of air shower events, which is an important parameter for identifying the composition of primary particles. The system has been running for more than one year. In this paper, the details of the design and performance of WCDA++ are presented.

Abstract: Optical analysis is critical for evaluating light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and previous studies have been done on the relationship between negative capacitance of LEDs and how to improve luminous efficiency. In this study, optical studies were performed on LEDs of different colors. Luminous intensity is related to frequency. The lower the frequency, the greater the relative luminous intensity, and the luminous intensity basically tends to be saturated. When the relative luminous intensity is within a certain range, the negative capacitance is related to the luminous intensity in a logarithmic relationship. Meanwhile, the relation between negative capacitance and the luminous intensity under different voltages is the same. From the comparison between the luminescence experiment and the previous capacitance characteristics experiment, it can be concluded that the final effect caused by other factors affecting the frequency characteristics of the capacitance is that the composite capacitance exhibits a hysteresis effect, and the lower the frequency, the more obvious the lag. Therefore, the appearance of negative capacitance is not just caused by recombination; there must be other factors.

Abstract: Water Cherenkov detector array (WCDA) is one of the key parts of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), the construction of which was completed by the end of 2020. The WCDA covers a 78 000-m2 area and there exist 3120 large size photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) in three ponds: 8-in PMTs are used in WCDA pond No. 1 and 20-in PMTs are used in ponds No. 2 and No. 3. The front-end electronics (FEE) system based on multigain measurement technique is designed to achieve both high-precision time and charge measurements over a large dynamic range from single photon electron (S.P.E.) to 4000 P.E. (for water pond No. 1)/1800 P.E. (for water ponds No. 2 and No. 3). To achieve a high-quality clock distribution and phase alignment as well as mixed transmission of data, clock, and commands in one fiber over a long distance, an enhanced white rabbit (WR) technique is used. Testing of all the 350 FEE modules for the WCDA is presented in this article. Test results indicate that the charge resolution is better than 20% at S.P.E. and 1% at 1800/4000 P.E. and the time resolution is better than 300 ps root mean square (rms), which successfully meets the application requirement. All the FEE modules have been fabricated and installed for the LHAASO WCDA from 2018 to 2020, and the initial commissioning operation indicates that the FEEs function well.

50. Nonreciprocal Charge and Spin Transport Induced by Non-Hermitian Skin Effect in Mesoscopic Heterojunctions

Abstract: The pursuit of the non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE) in various physical systems is of great research interest. Compared with recent progress in non-electronic systems, the implementation of the NHSE in condensed matter physics remains elusive. Here, we show that the NHSE can be engineered in the mesoscopic heterojunctions (system plus reservoir) in which electrons in two channels of the system moving towards each other have asymmetric coupling to those of the reservoir. This makes electrons in the system moving forward and in the opposite direction have unequal lifetimes, and so gives rise to a point-gap spectral topology. Accordingly, the electron eigenstates exhibit NHSE under the open boundary condition, consistent with the description of the generalized Brillouin zone. Such a reservoir-engineered NHSE visibly manifests itself as the nonreciprocal charge current that can be probed by the standard transport measurements. Further, we generalize the scenario to the spin-resolved NHSE, which can be probed by the nonreciprocal spin transport. Our work opens a new research avenue for implementing and detecting the NHSE in electronic mesoscopic systems, which will lead to interesting device applications., Published version on PRB, 11 pages, 7 figures
