OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of moving cupping therapy in people with colorectal cancer (CRC) experiencing chemotherapy-related side effects. METHODS: A prospective observational study was conducted in people diagnosed with CRC who were treated for the side effects of their chemotherapy. Participants received cupping therapy 3 times a week for 10 consecutive weeks at our traditional Chinese medicine ward. Their quality of life and meridian energies were evaluated both at baseline and at 3 months after the treatment course. RESULTS: Forty-six individuals with CRC were enrolled and 34 completed the study. The average number of cycles of chemotherapy during the study was 4.5. The mean number of moving cupping treatments was 25.7. After the moving cupping treatment program, participants exhibited significant improvements in quality of life, physical function, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, sleep disturbance, and pain. CONCLUSION: For the participants in this study, moving cupping therapy relieved some chemotherapy-related side effects and improved quality of life in people with CRC.

Recent evidence highlights long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) as crucial regulators of cancer biology that contribute to essential cancer cell functions such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metastasis. In non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), several lncRNAs' expressions are misregulated and have been nominated as critical actors in NSCLC tumorigenesis. LncRNA ANRIL was first found to be required for the PRC2 recruitment to and silencing of p15INK4B, the expression of which is induced by the ATM–E2F1 signaling pathway. Our previous study showed that ANRIL was significantly upregulated in gastric cancer, and it could promote cell proliferation and inhibit cell apoptosis by silencing of miR99a and miR449a transcription. However, its clinical significance and potential role in NSCLC is still not documented. In this study, we reported that ANRIL expression was increased in NSCLC tissues, and its expression level was significantly correlated with tumor–node–metastasis stages and tumor size. Moreover, patients with high levels of ANRIL expression had a relatively poor prognosis. In addition, taking advantage of loss-of-function experiments in NSCLC cells, we found that knockdown of ANRIL expression could impair cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis both in vitro and vivo. Furthermore, we uncover that ANRIL could not repress p15 expression in PC9 cells, but through silencing of KLF2 and P21 transcription. Thus, we conclusively demonstrate that lncRNA ANRIL plays a key role in NSCLC development by associating its expression with survival in patients with NSCLC, providing novel insights on the function of lncRNA-driven tumorigenesis. To meet the need for peak regulating, large unit sets have put forward new and higher requirements for a thermal automatic control system, and the degree of automation has become an important symbol to measure the level of modernization of enterprises. The automatic verification technology of thermal metrology is the manifestation of the development of automation, and it has also improved in the aspect of testing equipment. The use of automatic verification technology in thermal measurement can not only improve work efficiency but also reduce labor costs, which provides a basic guarantee for safe and reliable operations of equipment.

Based on fieldwork and examination of fresh as well as preserved specimens, Goodyera bomiensis and G. wolongensis are reduced under the synonymy of G. brachystegia and G. serpens respectively. Goodyera serpens and G. marginata are re-instated as accepted species, and G. afzelii, previously thought to be restricted to Madagascar and Mozambique, is added to the orchid flora of Vietnam.

Renal replacement therapy is an important therapy for prolonging life in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) populations, and, in Taiwan, hemodialysis (HD) is the choice for most patients with ESRD. Although HD is effective for prolonging life, it is sometimes associated with complications that patients and doctors have to cope with every day, such as intradialytic hypotension, dialysis disequilibrium syndrome, and muscle cramps. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a complementary and alternative therapy that has been recognized for its efficacy in treating a variety of diseases by the World Health Organization. Nowadays, the clinical practice of TCM for HD-related complications has received attention for its effectiveness and safety. In this article, we summarize the TCM viewpoint and different TCM interventions for HD-related complications, such as Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, herbal acupoint therapy, auricular acupoints, and moxibustion. In the ESRD population, TCM is able to balance Yin and Yang, prevent cardiovascular accidents, control blood pressure, and relieve pain. More importantly, TCM may also improve common HD-related complications such as uremic symptoms, imbalance of electrolyte and fluid status, insomnia, and malnutrition. The mechanism of TCM is considered related to the regulation of autonomous functions and the activation of biologically active chemical substances. According to the studies noted in this review article, TCM has been proven effective for HD-related complications. However, more well-designed and rigorous research will be necessary to reveal the underlying mechanisms in the future.

Clarifying the regional transmission mechanism of COVID-19 has practical significance for effective protection. Taking 103 county-level regions of Hubei Province as an example, and taking the fastest-spreading stage of COVID-19, which lasted from 29 January 2020, to 29 February 2020, as the research period, we systematically analyzed the population migration, spatio-temporal variation pattern of COVID-19, with emphasis on the spatio-temporal differences and scale effects of related factors by using the daily sliding, time-ordered data analysis method, combined with extended geographically weighted regression (GWR). The results state that: Population migration plays a two-way role in COVID-19 variation. The emigrants&rsquo, and immigrants&rsquo, population of Wuhan city accounted for 3.70% and 73.05% of the total migrants&rsquo, population respectively, the restriction measures were not only effective in controlling the emigrants, but also effective in preventing immigrants. COVID-19 has significant spatial autocorrelation, and spatio-temporal differentiation has an effect on COVID-19. Different factors have different degrees of effect on COVID-19, and similar factors show different scale effects. Generally, the pattern of spatial differentiation is a transitional pattern of parallel bands from east to west, and also an epitaxial radiation pattern centered in the Wuhan 1 + 8 urban circle. This paper is helpful to understand the spatio-temporal evolution of COVID-19 in Hubei Province, so as to provide a reference for similar epidemic prevention.

Ecological land is essential to sustainable development of urban agglomeration. Based on the results of remote sensing image interpretation, we analyzed the spatial-temporal evolution of ecological land in 32 research units of ecological land in Wuhan urban agglomeration in 2000-2005, 2005-2010 and 2010-2015, using the land use transition matrix, exploratory regression analysis, the ordinary least squares (OLS) model, and geographically weighted regression (GWR) model. Then, the best regression model was selected after perfecting the traditional index system of influencing factors by data of the location and quantitative information of companies, enterprises and life services, etc., and conducting exploratory regression analysis. Finally, we analyzed the influencing factors and spatial differentiation rules of different research periods with GWR model. The results showed that, from 2000 to 2015, the amount of transition from ecological land use to non-ecological land use in the urban agglomeration showed an inverted U-shaped change pattern, and the space showing the expanding trend from point to surface. Land use patterns of 8.4% area had changed in the urban agglomeration, among which the conversion of cultivated land, forest land, grassland, water body and unused land to non-ecological land accounted for 41.9% of the total area. The spatial pattern gradually expanded from the central urban area of Wuhan to the periphery of the municipal sub-center and county-level towns. The total number of passing models in the three stages of exploratory regression analysis was 326. The GWR and OLS regression were used for comparative analysis of all models. Objective To determine the effectiveness and safety of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients with advanced gastric cancer and peritoneal metastases. Methods PubMed®, CNKI, Web of Science, VIP and WANFANG databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effect of HIPEC on survival, clinical response and adverse events. Patients with advanced gastric cancer and peritoneal metastases were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The statistical results are presented as relative ratio (RR), mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results Twenty-one RCTs met the inclusion criteria ( n = 1674 patients). Meta-analysis showed that the 3-year survival rate was significantly higher in the HIPEC group than in the control group (RR 1.61; 95% CI 1.43, 1.82) and the complete response rate was significantly higher in the HIPEC group than in the control group (RR 2.35; 95% CI 1.67, 3.31). HIPEC was also beneficial in terms of decreased CEA (MD −1.79; 95% CI −2.22, −1.35). There was no significant difference in the rate of adverse reactions (RR 1.00; 95% CI 0.87, 1.14). Conclusions HIPEC had a beneficial effect on 3-year survival rate and complete response in patients with advanced gastric cancer and peritoneal metastases.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common troublesome side effect and affects long-term activities of daily living. This neuropathic disorder is still difficult to treat with current clinical treatments. The aim of this study was to investigate and offer an updated perspective of complementary therapies for CIPN.This review included current databases, including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Database, Google Scholar, and Ovid Medline, published up to May 2019 in the English language, to summarize the role of nutrient supplements in CIPN, based on evidence from both animal and clinical studies.A total of 58 studies were included in this review. There were 19 preclinical studies that reported mechanisms of effects and 31 clinical studies corroborated preclinical findings, including 22 randomized controlled trials and 3085 patients with CIPN. Interventions included vitamin E, vitamin B complex, glutamine, acetyl-L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, glutathione, omega-3 fatty acids, and calcium/magnesium (Ca2+/Mg2+). The administration of various nutrients remains inconsistent, and limited evidence of effective ones for treating CIPN is available. However, glutamine and omega-3 fatty acids present potential as treatment options for CIPN. The evidence on vitamin E and vitamin B complex is inconclusive, and some forms of vitamin B, such as B6 or B12, await confirmation of their potential to offer protection from CIPN. Less robust evidence was found for nutrients such as acetyl-L-carnitine, α-Lipoic acid, glutathione, and Ca2+/Mg2+ for CIPN.Nutritional therapists seem to recommend nutrient supplements as potential anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective agents for both the prevention and management of CIPN. An understanding of this evolving literature is useful in exploring these therapies with patients who are considering using them. However, their effects against CIPN are still controversial due to the undetermined neuropathic mechanisms of different antineoplastic agents and complex drug interactions. Further research on these agents is warranted.

Depression is a severe and recurrent mental disease and contributes to the global disease burden. However, there are limited effective treatments for depression. This study evaluated the effect of a compound Gaoziban tablet (CGZBT) on depression and explored its potential mechanisms that underlie its action in rats.

To evaluate the effect of Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf hydroethanolic extract (PHE) against nephrotic syndrome (NS) in rats and to identify the potential active components from PHE.The high content compounds were isolated and purified by using column chromatography followed by preparative highperformance liquid chromatography (p-HPLC). Forty male Wistar rats with adriamycin (ADR)-induced NS were randomly divided into 5 groups, 8 in each group: model control group, positive control group (with prednisone treatment), PHE low-dose group, PHE middle-dose group and PHE high-dose group. Another 8 rats were recruited as vehicle control group. All rats received the intragastric administration of corresponding drugs or saline for 30 days. During the experimental period, rats' behavior and appearance were observed and recorded daily, and their body weights were recorded weekly. After treatment, 24-h urine samples were collected to evaluate the urine protein and urine creatinine (Ucr); then the rats were sacrificed to collect carotid blood and to determine the levels of serum total protein (TP), albumin (Alb), globulin (Glo), total cholesterol (TC) and cytokine interlukin-4 (IL-4).Six acidic components were isolated and identified from the PHE section: pachymic acid, 15α-hydroxydehydrotumulosic acid, trametenolic acid, dehydropachymic acid, 3β-hydroxy-lanosta-7,9(11), 24-trien-21-oic-acid and dehydroeburicoic acid. Compared with the model control group, the urine protein content were significantly decreased in the PHE treatment groups and positive control group (P0.05), especially PHE middle-dose group (P0.01). The Ucr values and serum levels of TP, Glo, TC and IL-4 in PHE low- and middle-dose groups were also presented obvious recover tendency as compared with the model control group (P0.05 or P0.01). However, positive control group and all PHE groups indicated no significant therapeutic effect on raising Alb value, although PHE low- and middle-dose treatment groups showed better outcomes than positive control group (P0.05).PHE showed an encouraging therapeutic effect against ADR-induced NS in a rat model. PHE might be a group of effective substances for the treatment of NS.

An ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric method (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed in this study to simultaneously determine the contents of eight effective constituents in rat plasma, including baicalin, wogonoside, baicalein, liquiritin, glycyrrhizic acid, berberine hydrochloride, saikosaponin a and saikosaponin d in plasma of gastric ulcer rats, and investigate the pharmacokinetics of Modified Xiaochaihu Granules. To conduct the studies on serum pharmacochemistry of effective parts of modified Xiaochaihu Tang for treatment of gastric ulcer by using chromatography-mass spectrometry. Absolute ethyl alcohol induced-gastric ulcer model of mouse was used in this study to investigate the pharmacology of modified Xiaochaihu Tang and its effective parts. Both groups could significantly decrease the absolute ethyl alcohol induced-ulcer. Gasphase-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to detect chemical compositions of volatile fractions and the drug components after gastric administration. A total of 63 compounds were identified in extracts, accounting for more than 93% of the all volatile oil, including 23.51% α-curcumene, 11.96% zingiberene, 9.56% curzerene, 6.54% β-sesquinene, 4.77% camphene, and 6 prototype components were also detected in serum for gastric ulcer model. In liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), a total of 17 compounds were identified in extracts, 6 prototype components and 2 metabolites (3,5-O-feruloylquinic acid and palmatine) were obtained in serum. In a conclusion, this study provides an important scientific basis for identifying the active ingredients in modified Xiaochaihu Tang, and also helps to reveal the pharmacological effect of modified Xiaochaihu Tang for treatment of gastric ulcer.

F2CX (X = Se and Te) have two Lewis acid sites of σ-hole and π-hole located respectively in the vicinity of X and C ends, participating in the chalcogen and tetrel bonds with HCN and NH3, respectively. F2CSe forms a stronger tetrel bond, while F2CTe forms a stronger chalcogen bond. F2CX shows weaker tetrel and chalcogen bonds in the ternary system, exhibiting anticooperativity with some different features from positive one. The nature of two interactions and the origin of anticooperativity have been analyzed by means of energy decomposition, molecular electrostatic potential, and orbital interaction.

The problem about promoting the rapid economic growth while effectively reducing CO2 emission has aroused great attention of scholars both at home and abroad. Researches show that there are differences in the relationship between economic development and carbon emissions in the different historical stages of the different regions. This paper took Hubei Province as the survey region, by means of the decomposition model of CO2 emissions, accurately calculated CO2 emissions from 2001 to 2010 in Hubei Province, selected Hubei Province’s GDP and the three industries’ GDP as indicators of economic development, used the method of grey relational analysis to calculate grey correlation degree of Hubei Province’s GDP, three major industries’ GDP and CO2 emissions, carried on the comparative analysis of the relationship between economic development and CO2 emissions of Hubei Province in combination with China’s corresponding results, specifically put forward policy suggestions on energy conservation and emissions reduction in Hubei Province, so as to provide the theoretical reference for the development of low carbon economy in Hubei Province.

A new diarylheptanoid, 4,6-bis (4-hydroxybenzyl)-1,2-dioxepan-5-one, named alpinin E, was isolated from the rhizomes of Alpinia officinarum. The structure of the new compound was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra and HR-ESI-MS analysis.

Aiming to dealing with the problems of power factor compensation and the limitations of the conventional PI controller in the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM), a new control strategy based on multi-model and neural network PI controller is proposed. This control scheme applied the multi-model and neural network technology to the PI controller to meet the accuracy and speed of the power factor compensation under different impact loads. Meanwhile, the neural network technology is used to tune the PI controller parameters values according to an optimal control law, which can meet the requirements of full range working conditions and optimality. Simulation experiments show that compared to the traditional PI controller, PI controller based on multi-model and neural network is proved to be better capable of adapting to the changes of impact loads with a higher compensating precision, which makes the power factor maintained at about 1 after compensation.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health concern worldwide, and spreads more easily in densely populated areas such as school campuses. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of positive TB skin tests among freshmen, i.e. newly-enrolled college students, in Zhengzhou City, China. Methods: We reviewed the data of purified protein derivative (PPD) skin tests in 656,212 freshmen in 2004-2013. Results: A positive test showed a diameter of swelling ≥ 5 mm. The PPD positive rate was 40.69 %, with a prevalence of 146.29 per 100,000. During the 10-year study period, the rate of students with positive PPD test increased from 34.19 % in 2004 to 40.69 % in 2013. Reactive power optimization is very important to power systems economic operation and nowadays, the research about it gets more and more popular. The paper presents a reactive power optimization algorithm of particle swarm optimization combined with sensitivity analysis. The paper first builds the mathematic model of reactive power optimization and introduces particle swarm optimization. Then, presents the sensitivity method in detail and talks about the process of computing the sensitivity. Finally, take the algorithm into practical application and the results proves that sensitivity analysis could improve the particle swarm optimization algorithm.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between thymidylate synthase (TS), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and reduced folate carrier (SLC19A1) gene polymorphisms and the treatment efficacy of pemetrexed-based chemotherapy in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Advanced NSCLC patients received pemetrexed and cisplatin every three weeks. Polymorphisms in the TS, MTHFR and SLC19A1 genes were detected in peripheral blood samples using DNA sequencing and Taqman PCR. An analysis of gene polymorphisms was performed with respect to the progression-free survival (PFS), response rate (RR) and overall survival (OS) of patients treated with pemetrexed. The median PFS times for patients with the TS 2R/2R, 2R/3C or 3C/3C genotypes were significantly longer than those of patients with the 2R/3G, 3C/3G or 3G/3G genotypes (P=0.036). Patients with the SLC19A1 CC genotype had a significantly longer median OS compared with individuals with the homozygous and heterozygous genotypes (12.2 vs. 8.9 and 7.3 months, respectively; P=0.022). The PFS and OS did not differ for the three genotypes of MTHFR assessed. The RR was higher in patients with the TS 2R/2R, 2R/3C or 3C/3C genotypes than in the other groups (P=0.044). The polymorphisms of the 5'-UTR of the TS gene and exon 6 (2522) C/T of the SLC19A1 gene predict the survival of advanced NSCLC patients treated with pemetrexed. However, a large scale clinical trial is required to validate these findings.

Alantolactone, a sesquiterpene lactone, possesses anti-inflammatory property. In this study, we provide evidence that it could be developed as a novel agent against human liver cancer. We observed that alantolactone treatment to HepG2, Bel-7402 and SMMC-7721 cells, human liver cancer cell lines resulted in a dose-dependent inhibition of cell growth. We selected HepG2 cell line as a test model system. Alantolactone treatment of HepG2 cells resulted in a dose-dependent induction of apoptosis and arrest of cells in G2-M phase. This induction of apoptosis seems to be mediated via modulating the protein levels of Bcl-2 family and activation of caspases. Moreover, caspase-8 and Bid activation, loss of mitochondrial transmembrane potential and cytochrome c release suggest the existence of a cross-talk between the death receptor and the mitochondrial pathways. We also observed that alantolactone treatment of cells resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in NF- κB/p65. In addition, a significant and progressive increase in the level of p53 protein in alantolactone-treated cells was observed. Taken together, our data suggest that alantolactone could be developed as an agent against human liver cancer.

Brucine is a central agonist that can pass through the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The goal of this study is to examine whether brucine is one of the substrates of the drug transporter P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and to examine the effects of P-gp on the brucine transport at the in vitro BBB model. The P-gp ATPase assay was utilized to investigate the in vitro affinity of P-gp to brucine. Results suggested that K(m) of brucine (11.4 μmol/l) was smaller than the positive control, verapamil (16.4 μmol/l). In this study, we developed an in vitro BBB model, comprising a co-culture of primary rat brain microvessel endothelial cells and astrocytes for the transport study. The validated model was correct and available. Transendothelial electrical resistance reached (283.78 ± 18.85) Ω cm(2). The model displayed limited permeability to fluorescein sodium and [(125)I]albumin, with the apparent permeability coefficient Papp of (10.36 ± 0.86) × 10(-6) cm/s and (6.00 ± 0.78) × 10(-6)cm/s, respectively. We recently showed that ethyl acetate fraction (EE-DS) from ethanol extract of D. superbus exhibited the strongest antioxidant and cytotoxic activities. In this study, we examined apoptosis of HepG2 cells induced by EE-DS, and the mechanism underlying apoptosis was also investigated. Treatment of HepG2 cells with EE-DS (20–80μg/ml) for 48h led to a significant dose-dependent increase in the percentage of cells in sub-G1 phase by analysis of the content of DNA in cells, and a large number of apoptotic bodies containing nuclear fragments were observed in cells treated with 80μg/ml of EE-DS for 24h by using Hoechst 33258 staining. These data show that EE-DS can induce apoptosis of HepG2 cells. Immunoblot analysis showed that EE-DS significantly suppressed the expressions of Bcl-2 and NF-κB. Treatment of cells with EE-DS (80μg/ml) for 48h resulted in significant increase of cytochrome c in the cytosol, which indicated cytochrome c release from mitochondria. Activation of caspase-9 and -3 were also determined when the cells treated with EE-DS. The results suggest that apoptosis of HepG2 cells induced by EE-DS could be through the mitochondrial intrinsic pathway. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) data showed that the composition of EE-DS is complicated. Further studies are needed to find the effective constituents of EE-DS.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as key regulators governing fundamental biological processes, and their disorder expression involves in the development of several human cancers. MIR31HG, an lncRNA located in 9p21.3 and 2166 bp in length, has been found to be upregulated in breast cancer and contributes to cell proliferation and invasion. However, the expression pattern and biological function of MIR31HG in gastric cancer are still not well documented. In this study, we found that MIR31HG expression is decreased in gastric cancer tissues and associated with larger tumor size and advanced pathological stage. Patients with lower MIR31HG expression had a relatively poor prognosis. Furthermore, ectopic over-expression of MIR31HG could inhibit gastric cancer (GC) cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo, while knockdown of MIR31HG by small interfering RNA (siRNA) promoted cell proliferation in GC cells partly via regulating E2F1 and p21 expression. Our findings present that decreased MIR31HG is involved in GC development and could be identified as a poor prognostic biomarker in GC patients.

A selective, simple and efficient method-ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed for determination of two toxic alkaloids, namely strychnine and brucine in mice plasma. The UPLC separation was carried out using a 1.7 μm BEH C(18) column (50 mm × 2.1 mm) with a mobile phase consisting of methanol:0.1% formic acid (25:75, v/v), hence providing high efficiency, high resolution and excellent peak shape for the analytes and internal standard. The method was validated over the range of 2.48-496.4 ng/ml for strychnine and 2.64-528 ng/ml for brucine, respectively. Intra- and inter-day accuracy ranged from 95.0% to 107.9% for strychnine, 93.4% to 103.3% for brucine, and the precisions were within 13.8%. The extraction recoveries of both the two alkaloids exceed 81.9%. With a simple and minor sample preparation procedure and short run-time (3 min), the proposed method was applicable for the pharmacokinetic and toxicological analysis of strychnine and brucine in vivo.

Aim To study the chemical constituents of the roots of Valeriana officinalis L. Methods Chemical constituents were isolated by various column chromatographic techniques and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Results A new sesquiterpene, orivalerianol (4β, 10α, 15-trihydroxy-aromadrendane) ( 1 ), and a new iridoid, monovalerianester A (aglycone of kanokoside A) ( 2 ) together with eight known compounds rulepidol ( 3 ), behenic acid ( 4 ), pinoresinol ( 5 ), valerenic acid ( 6 ), β-sitosterol ( 7 ), kanokoside A ( 8 ), prinsepiol-4- O -β- D -glucoside ( 9 ) and 8-hydroxypinoresinol-4 - O -β- D -glucoside ( 10 ) were obtained from the EtOAc extract ( 1∼6 ) and n -BuOH extract ( 7∼10 ). Conclusion Compounds 1 and 2 are new natural products.

Flavonoids exist extensively in plants, and several biological effects of them have been demonstrated. Wogonin is an important flavonoid compound. In this study, wogonin showed obvious growth inhibition on Bel-7402 cells. The major mechanisms of inhibition included cell apoptosis and cytotoxic effects. Wogonin-induced cell death showed characteristics of apoptosis including DNA fragmentation, chromatin condensation, appearance of apoptotic bodies, and an increase in hypodiploid cells. However, the percentage of necrosis cells also increased with the increase of wogonin concentration. Furthermore, treatment with wogonin caused changes of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial membrane potentials (DeltaPsim, MMP), the decrease of the ratio of reduced and oxidized glutathione (GSH/GSSG), cytochrome c release and activation of caspase-9.

Eight compounds were isolated from the 50% ethanol extract of Impatiens pritzllii var.hupehensis through various column chromatography methods including silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and preparative HPLC. Their structures were elucidated as 2,6-dimethyl-2-vinyl-2,3,4,7-tetrahydrooxepine(1), 1,3,6-trihydroxy-7-methyl-anthraquinone(2),4-hydroxybenzaldehyde(3),4-(3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanone(4), podophyllotoxin(5),scopoletin(6), α-spinasterol(7) and 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-α-spinasterol(8) based on the NMR and MS spectral data. Compound 1 is new compound and compounds 2-8 are isolated from this plant for the first time.

Background Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as key regulators governing fundamental biological processes, and their disorder expression involves in tumorigenesis. SPRY4-IT1 (SPRY4 intronic transcript 1), a lncRNA derived from an intron within SPRY4 gene, involves in multiple cancers development. However, the expression pattern and biological function of SPRY4-IT1 in gastric cancer is still not well documented. Hence, we carried out the present study to investigate the potential role of SPRY4-IT1 in gastric carcinogenesis. Methods QRT-PCR was performed to detect the expression of SPRY4-IT1 in 61 pairs of gastric cancer samples. Over-expression and RNA interference (RNAi) approaches were used to investigate the biological functions of SPRY4-IT1. The effect of SPRY4-IT1 on proliferation was evaluated by MTT and colony formation assays. Gastric cancer cells transfected with pCDNA-SPRY4-IT1 were injected into nude mice to study the effect of SPRY4-IT1 on tumorigenesis and metastasis in vivo. Protein levels of SPRY4-IT1 targets were determined by western blot or fluorescence immunohistochemistry. ChIP assays were performed to investigate the effect of DNMT1 on SPRY4-IT1 expression. Differences between groups were tested for significance using Student’s t test (two-tailed). Results SPRY4-IT1 expression is decreased in gastric cancer tissues and associated with larger tumor size, advanced pathological stage, deeper depth of invasion and lymphatic metastasis. Patients with lower SPRY4-IT1 expression had a relatively poor prognosis. DNA methylation may be a key factor in controlling the SPRY4-IT1 expression. Furthermore, SPRY4-IT1 contributed to gastric cancer cells metastasis might partly via regulating epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) process. Conclusion Low expression of SPRY4-IT1 is involved in progression and metastasis of gastric cancer and may represent a novel biomarker of poor prognosis in patients with gastric cancer.
