Abstract To gain a deeper understanding of the genetic diversity and authenticity of natural pollinated F1 progeny populations of specific walnuts (heart-shaped walnuts and Jinghong 1), as well as the genetic relationship between F1 offspring and their maternal parent. 32 heart-shaped walnut F1 offspring, 45 Jinghong 1 F1 offspring, and their maternal parent were selected as materials, and 14 pairs of SSR markers were used for genetic diversity and parent-child relationship analysis. The results showed that Jr05, Jr11, Jr29, Jr44, Jr45, Jr52, Jr53, Jr55, and Jr56 could be used as SSR markers for the identification of hybrid offspring in heart-shaped walnuts. Jr35, Jr40, Jr45, Jr50, Jr52, and Jr53 could be used as SSR markers for the identification of hybrid offspring of Jinghong 1. XX21 had the closer genetic relationship with heart-shaped walnuts, and HR20 had the closer genetic relationship with Jinghong 1. Besides, the classification results of F1 offspring based on UPGMA clustering and STRUCTURE were different. This study not only laid the foundation for parental identification of specific walnut F1 progeny, but also provided theoretical reference for fixing hybrid advantages, germplasm innovation, and new variety breeding.

Abstract Effective antibacterial therapy while accelerating the repair of bone defects is crucial for the treatment of osteomyelitis. Inspired by the protective mechanism of Andrias davidianus, we constructed an antibacterial hydrogel scaffold with excellent rigidity and long-term slow-release activity. While retaining the toughness of the skin secretion of Andrias davidianus (SSAD), the rigidity of the hydrogel material is increased by incorporating hydroxyapatite to meet the demands of bone-defect-filling materials. It also exerted antibacterial effects via the slow-release of vancomycin from local osteomyelitis lesions. Notably, the hydrogel can also carry a high stable recombinant miR-214-3p inhibitor (MSA-anti214). By the delivery of nano vector polyvinylamine, the long-term slow-release of MSA-anti214 is achieved to promote bone repair, making this composite hydrogel a potential SSAD-based osteomyelitis alleviator (SOA). In vitro and vivo results verified that the SOA effectively eliminated Staphylococcus aureus and repaired bone defects, ultimately mitigating the progression of osteomyelitis. This composite hydrogel extends the economic application prospects of A. davidianus and has provided new insights for the treatment of osteomyelitis. The study also explored new insights for the bone filling materials of bone defection and other skeletal system diseases.

Abstract Hippophae tibetana, one of the highest-altitude woody plants endemic to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, primarily thrives on riverbanks formed by glacial meltwater. As a dioecious species, it demonstrates significant ecological and economic value in extreme alpine environments. However, the lack of sex identification techniques outside of the flowering period severely limits research on sex ratio, differentiation, and breeding. There is an urgent need to develop effective sex-linked molecular markers that are independent of developmental stages, but current research in this area remains limited. This study developed a set of accurate sex-linked molecular markers for the rapid identification of male and female individuals of H. tibetana. Through whole-genome resequencing of 32 sexually differentiated H. tibetana samples, this study offers strong evidence supporting chromosome 2 as the sex chromosome and successfully identified key loci related to sex determination on this chromosome. Utilizing these loci, we, for the first time, developed three reliable pairs of sex-specific molecular markers, which exhibited high accuracy during validation across various geographic populations, offering an effective tool for the sex identification of H. tibetana. Additionally, this study lays the groundwork for further research into the mechanisms of sex determination and the evolution of sex chromosomes in H. tibetana.

Walnut oil is a valuable woody grain oil with high nutritional content and excellent health function activity, but it is susceptible to issues such as oxidative deterioration. The chemical composition and manner of production of walnut oil have a considerable influence on its oxidative stability. The types, content, and functional effects of fatty acids, phenolic compounds, phytosterols, squalene, and other components in walnut oil are discussed in this article. It also investigates walnut oil's anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, immunoregulatory, neuroprotective, and other biological activities. It examines the benefits and drawbacks of conventional extraction methods and technical advancements, as well as the influence of walnut oil chemical composition and preparation methods on oxidative stability. In addition, possibilities for walnut oil research directions, such as functional activity, efficient preparation technology, and suitability for processing specific types are created in order to provide a reference for the development and utilization of walnut oil products.

Bacterial infections pose a significant clinical burden on global health. The growing incidence of drug-resistant pathogens highlights the critical necessity to identify and isolate bioactive compounds from marine resources. Marine-derived fungi could provide novel lead compounds against pathogenic bacteria. Due to the particularity of the marine environment, Aspergillus species derived from marine sources have proven to be potent producers of bioactive secondary metabolites and have played a considerable role in advancing drug development. This study reviews the structural diversity and activities against pathogenic bacteria of secondary metabolites isolated from marine-derived Aspergillus species over the past 14 years (January 2010–June 2024), and 337 natural products (including 145 new compounds) were described. The structures were divided into five major categories—terpenoids, nitrogen-containing compounds, polyketides, steroids, and other classes. These antimicrobial metabolites will offer lead compounds to the development and innovation of antimicrobial agents.

Abstract Artificially created human faces play an increasingly important role in our digital world. However, the so-called uncanny valley effect may cause people to perceive highly, yet not perfectly human-like faces as eerie, bringing challenges to the interaction with virtual agents. At the same time, the neurocognitive underpinnings of the uncanny valley effect remain elusive. Here, we utilized an electroencephalography (EEG) dataset of steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEP) in which participants were presented with human face images of different stylization levels ranging from simplistic cartoons to actual photographs. Assessing neuronal responses both in frequency and time domain, we found a non-linear relationship between SSVEP amplitudes and stylization level, that is, the most stylized cartoon images and the real photographs evoked stronger responses than images with medium stylization. Moreover, realness of even highly similar stylization levels could be decoded from the EEG data with task-related component analysis (TRCA). Importantly, we also account for confounding factors, such as the size of the stimulus face’s eyes, which previously have not been adequately addressed. Together, this study provides a basis for future research and neuronal benchmarking of real-time detection of face realness regarding three aspects: SSVEP-based neural markers, efficient classification methods, and low-level stimulus confounders.

To address the existing issue of ambiguous walnut varieties for oil processing, this study employed 26 main planted walnut varieties as the research object, completely analyzing their oil utilization features in order to filter out qualified walnut particular varieties for oil processing. By measuring seven phenotypic traits and nineteen physicochemical and nutritional quality traits of each variety, the coefficient of variation and correlation of each trait were calculated, and the traits closely related to oil quality were comprehensively evaluated using principal component analysis and cluster analysis. Chronic pancreatitis is a progressive fibroinflammatory disorder with no currently satisfactory treatment. Emerging evidence suggests an association between gut microbial dysbiosis and chronic pancreatitis. Although direct causative evidence is lacking, it is hypothesized that the gut microbiota may play a pivotal role in modulating pancreatic function via the gut–pancreas axis. Thus, modulating the gut microbiota through the administration of probiotics or prebiotics may alleviate pancreatic disorders. In this review, we first propose the potential mechanisms by which specific probiotics or prebiotics may ameliorate chronic pancreatitis, including the alleviation of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), the facilitation of short-chain fatty acids’ (SCFAs) production, and the activation of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptors (GLP-1Rs) in the pancreas. Since there are currently no probiotics or prebiotics used for the treatment of chronic pancreatitis, we discuss research in other disease models that have used probiotics or prebiotics to modulate pancreatic endocrine and exocrine functions and prevent pancreatic fibrosis. This provides indirect evidence for their potential application in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis. We anticipate that this research will stimulate further investigation into the gut–pancreas axis and the potential therapeutic value of probiotics and prebiotics in chronic pancreatitis.

Abstract The neutron capture cross section of $$ ^{181} $$ 181 Ta is relevant to s-process of nuclear astrophysics, extraterrestrial samples analysis in planetary geology and new generation nuclear energy system design. The $$^{181}$$ 181 Ta( $$n,\gamma $$ n , γ ) cross section had been measured between 1 eV and 800 keV at the back-streaming white neutron facility (Back-n) of China spallation neutron source(CSNS) using the time-of-flight (TOF) technique and $$\hbox {C}_{6}\,\hbox {D}_{6}$$ C 6 D 6 liquid scintillator detectors. The experimental results are compared with the data of several evaluated libraries and previous experiments in the resolved and unresolved resonance region. Resonance parameters are extracted using the R-Matrix code SAMMY in the 1–700 eV region. The astrophysical Maxwell average cross section(MACS) from kT = 5 to 100 keV is calculated over a sufficiently wide range of neutron energies. For the characteristic thermal energy of an astrophysical site, at kT = 30keV the MACS value of $$^{181}$$ 181 Ta is 834 ± 75 mb, which shows an obvious discrepancy with the Karlsruhe Astrophysical Database of Nucleosynthesis in Stars (KADoNiS) recommended value 766 ± 15 mb. The new measurements strongly constrain the MACS of $$^{181}$$ 181 Ta( $$n,\gamma $$ n , γ ) reaction in the stellar s-process temperatures.

Six new polyketides, which includes three new lactones (talarotones A–C) (1–3), one new polyketide (talarotide A) (4), two new polyenes (talaroyenes A, B) (5, 6), together with one new meroterpenoid (talaropenoid A) (7) and 13 known compounds (8–20) were isolated from the mangrove-derived fungus Talaromyces flavus TGGP35. The structure and configuration of the compounds 1–7 were elucidated from the data obtained from HR-ESI-MS, IR, 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy, Mo2 (OAc)4-induced electronic circular dichroism (ECD), CD spectroscopy, and modified Mosher's method. Compounds 5 and 20 displayed antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 0.40 and 1.36 mM, respectively. Compounds 3, 6, 11, 16, and 17 displayed cytotoxic activity against human cancer cells Hela, A549, and had IC50 values ranging from 28.89 to 62.23 μM. Compounds 7, 10–12, and 14–18 exhibited moderate or potent anti-insect activity against newly hatched larvae of Helicoverpa armigera Hubner, with IC50 values in the range 50–200 μg/mL. Compound 18 showed antibacterial activity against Ralstonia solanacearum with the MIC value of 50 μg/mL.

Lenses are fundamental elements in many optical applications. However, various aberrations are inevitably present in lenses, which will affect the distribution of focused light intensity and optical imaging. Accurately predicting the aberrations of a lens is of great significance. Nevertheless, quantitatively measuring the aberrations of a lens, especially when multiple aberrations are present simultaneously, is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a method based on a designed deep residual network called Y-ResNet to measure the astigmatism and coma of a lens simultaneously. The Y-ResNet was trained on the focused image pattern of a Gaussian beam passing through a lens with astigmatism and coma. The trained network can accurately predict the aberration coefficients of the lens with 0.99 specificity, 0.925 precision, 0.9382 recall, and a 0.9406 F1-score achieved on astigmatism and 0.99 specificity, 0.956 precision, 0.98 recall, and a 0.954 F1-score achieved on coma. Specifically, even if only part of the intensity distribution of the light spot is captured, the network can accurately estimate the aberrations of the lens with an accuracy of over 90% on coma and can identify astigmatism aberration features. This paper can provide a feasible method for correcting beam patterns caused by aberration based on deep learning.

Laser beam transmission in atmospheric turbulence causes image distortion and affects the quality of information transmission in the field of optical communication. The strength of the atmospheric turbulence, which can be characterized by refractive index structure constant $C^{2}_{n}$, significantly influences the properties of a laser beam. The accurate estimation of $C^{2}_{n}$ is essential for understanding the strength of turbulence. Although multilayer perceptron (MLP) and deep neural network (DNN) has been applied to estimate the atmospheric turbulence strength, the estimation accuracy is sensitive to the strength of the turbulence. In this article, we propose a method based on the convolution neural network (CNN) approach to estimate $C^{2}_{n}$ ranging from $10^{-17}$ to $10^{-13}$ $\text{m}^{-2/3}$. We experimentally demonstrate that the correlation coefficient ($\rm R^{2}$) of the model is 99.39%. The mean relative error (MRE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE) are 0.0047, 0.0916, and 0.0684, respectively. For the turbulence strength with the same order of refractive index structure constant $C^{2}_{n}$, the estimation accuracy of the weak turbulence is higher than that of medium and strong turbulence. Moreover, the mix training different levels of turbulence strength improves the estimation accuracy of $C^{2}_{n}$ compared to that with the same order of $C^{2}_{n}$. Based on the high estimation accuracy of the CNN in the scheme, the proposed method will be able to provide a way of estimating the strength of atmospheric turbulence without the need for additional optical devices.

Abstract Background Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal malignancy and is unresponsive to conventional therapeutic modalities due to its high heterogeneity, expounding the necessity, and priority of searching for effective biomarkers and drugs. Autophagy, as an evolutionarily conserved biological process, is upregulated in PDAC and its regulation is linked to a poor prognosis. Increased autophagy sequestered MHC‐I on PDAC cells and weaken the antigen presentation and antitumor immune response, indicating the potential therapeutic strategies of autophagy inhibitors. Methods By performing 10 state‐of‐the‐art multi‐omics clustering algorithms, we constructed a robust PDAC classification model to reveal the autophagy‐related genes among different subgroups. Outcomes After building a more comprehensive regulating network for potential autophagy regulators exploration, we concluded the top 20 autophagy‐related hub genes (GAPDH, MAPK3, RHEB, SQSTM1, EIF2S1, RAB5A, CTSD, MAP1LC3B, RAB7A, RAB11A, FADD, CFKN2A, HSP90AB1, VEGFA, RELA, DDIT3, HSPA5, BCL2L1, BAG3, and ERBB2), six miRNAs, five transcription factors, and five immune infiltrated cells as biomarkers. The drug sensitivity database was screened based on the biomarkers to predict possible drug‐targeting signal pathways, hoping to yield novel insights, and promote the progress of the anticancer therapeutic strategy. Conclusion We succefully constructed an autophagy‐related mRNA/miRNA/TF/Immune cells network based on a 10 state‐of art algorithm multi‐omics analysis, and screened the drug sensitivity dataset for detecting potential signal pathway which might be possible autophagy modulators' targets.

Understanding the transmission of light in ocean turbulence is of great significance for underwater communication, underwater detection, and other fields. The properties of ocean turbulence can affect the transmission characteristics of light beams, therefore it is essential to estimate the ocean turbulence intensity (OTI). In this study, we propose a deep learning-based method for predicting the OTI. Using phase screens to simulate ocean turbulence, we constructed a database of distorted Gaussian beams generated by Gaussian beams passing through ocean turbulence with varying intensities. We built a convolutional neural network and trained it using this database. For the trained network, inputting a distorted beam can accurately predict the corresponding intensity of ocean turbulence. We also compared our designed network with traditional network models such as AlexNet, VGG16, and Xception, and the results showed that our designed network had higher accuracy.

The neutron capture measurement of natural rhenium was performed with the time-of-flight technique at the Back-n facility of the China Spallation Neutron Source in the energy range from 1 to 500 eV of the resolved resonance region (RRR) and from 5 to 400 keV in the unresolved resonance region (URR). Prompt γ-rays originating from neutron-induced capture events were detected by four C_{6}D_{6} detectors. The pulse height weighting technique and the double-bunch unfolding method based on the Bayesian theory were used in the data analysis. To obtain reliable measurement results, background subtraction, normalization, and corrections were carefully considered. The multilevel R-matrix Bayesian code SAMMY was used to extract the resonance parameters in the RRR. An absence of resonance near 392 eV is observed in our measurement, which has been observed in previous works. The average cross sections in the URR of natural rhenium relative to ^{197}Au were obtained in logarithmical equidistant energy bins with 20 bins per energy decade. The talys code was used to describe the average cross sections in the URR; the Maxwellian-averaged cross sections (MACSs) of ^{185}Re and ^{187}Re are given from kT=5 to 100 keV. At a thermal energy of kT=30 keV, the MACS value for ^{185}Re (1469±127 mb) is in good agreement with the Karlsruhe Astrophysical Database of Nucleosynthesis in Stars (KADoNIS) recommended value (1535±62 mb) within the error bars. By contrast, the value of 1361±118 mb for ^{187}Re shows a discrepancy with the KADoNiS recommended value (1160±57 mb).

232Th/233U fuel cycle is an alternate candidate for future nuclear energy. Neutron-induced fission cross section of 232Th is one of the important nuclear data if using thorium as the fuel in the future. 232Th(n, f) cross sections from 1 to 300 MeV were measured at China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Back-streaming neutron facility (Back-n) relative to 235U(n, f) and n-p scattering. A fast ionization chamber for fission cross section measurement (FIXM) and a proton recoil telescope (PRT) were used to perform the measurement. The neutron energy in this measurement reaches up to 300 MeV which is supposed to be the highest among the current Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data (EXFOR) library. It stands as the only experimental data in the region of 200-300 MeV in EXFOR as well. The experimental and evaluated data of 232Th(n, f) cross section above 60 MeV are scarce, the measurement data of this work will be valuable references for future evaluation in high energy. For the data below 60 MeV, most of our data are more consistent with ENDF/B-VIII.0, excepting in the region of 1-2 MeV where our data are more in favor of CENDL-3.2.

The optimization of coding stimulus is a crucial factor in the study of steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based brain-computer interface(BCI).This study proposed an encoding approach named Multi-Symbol Time Division Coding (MSTDC). This approach is based on a protocol of maximizing the distance between neural responses, which aims to encode stimulation systems implementing any number of targets with finite stimulations of different frequencies and phases. Firstly, this study designed an SSVEP-based BCI system containing forty targets with this approach. The stimulation encoding of this system was achieved with four temporal-divided stimuli that adopt the same frequency of 30 Hz and different phases. During the online experiments of twelve subjects, this system achieved an average accuracy of $96.77 \pm 2.47$ % and an average information transfer rate (ITR) of 119.05 ± 6.11 bits/min. This study also devised an SSVEP-based BCI system containing 72 targets and proposed a Template Splicing task-related component analysis (TRCA) algorithm that utilized the dataset of the previous system containing forty targets as the training dataset. The subjects acquired an average accuracy of 86.23 ± 7.75% and an average ITR of 95.68 ± 14.19 bits/min. It can be inferred that MSTDC can encode multiple targets with limited frequencies and phases of stimuli. Meanwhile, this protocol can be effortlessly expanded into other systems and sufficiently reduce the cost of collecting training data. This study provides a feasible technique for obtaining a comfortable SSVEP-based BCI with multiple targets while maintaining high information transfer rate.

Wilms tumour is the fourth leading cause of paediatric malignancy, but the detailed relationship between the tumour microenvironment and prognosis remains largely unclear. In this research, gene expression profile and clinical information from TARGET and the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were collected. After comparing the prognostic value of the associated immune cells, we established a nomogram to predict the prognosis of Wilms tumour based on monocyte infiltration, macrophage infiltration, stage, and sex. Further results showed that the most significant relationship between matrix metallopeptidase 9 and prognosis or macrophage infiltration. Meanwhile, by gene set enrichment or variation analyses and immunohistochemistry staining, we demonstrated that the most highly enriched hub genes were closely related to the activated oxidative phosphorylation pathway. Finally, through tumour immune dysfunction and an exclusion algorithm, the satisfactory discriminative performance of our nomogram was revealed for predicting the response to clinical therapy. Anti-PD1 therapy is more suitable for Wilms tumour patients with high nomogram points, and chemotherapies are more effective for patients with low nomogram score.

Abstract The conversion of ubiquitous hygrothermal resources into renewable energy offers significant potential for cable‐free, self‐powered systems that can operate worldwide without regard to climatic or geographic limitations. Here, an all‐printed flexible hygro‐thermoelectric paper generator is demonstrated that uses bifunctional mobile ions and electrons to make the moist‐diffusion effect, the Soret effect, and the Seebeck effect work synergistically. In the ordinary hygrothermal settings, it generates an unconventional hygro‐thermoelectric output pattern and shows almost a dozen‐fold increase in positive hygro‐thermopower of 26.70 mV K−1 and also another negative hygro‐thermopower of −15.71 mV K−1 compared to pure thermopower. A single paper generator can produce a giant 680 mV displaying typical cyclic sinusoidal waveform characters with volt‐sized amplitudes. The ion‐electron conductive ink is easily printable and consists primarily of a Bi2Te3/PEDOT:PSS thermoelectric matrix modulated with a hygroscopic glycerol that releases ion charges for moist‐diffusion effect and Soret effect, as well as electron charges for Seebeck effect. The emerged hygro‐thermoelectric harvesting strategy from surrounding hygrothermal resources offers a revolutionary approach to the next generation of hybrid energy with cost‐efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability, and also enables large‐scale roll‐to‐roll production.

Background: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used to prevent gastrointestinal hemorrhage in patients with coronary treatment undergoing dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). Methods: A systematic review was performed to compare the outcomes between DAPT and DAPT + PPI in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients or patients who took percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with coronary stent implantation (PCI patients), and to estimate, for the first time, the sample size needed for reliable results via trial sequential analysis (TSA). The PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases were searched for articles authored from the onset until November 1, 2022, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing outcomes in ACS or PCI patients who undertook DAPT or DAPT + PPI. The primary outcomes were the incidence rate of gastrointestinal events and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). Results: The initial web search retrieved 786 literature references. Eventually, eight articles published between 2009 and 2020 were incorporated into the systematic review and meta-analysis. The combined results established a non-significant variation in MACEs incidences between the DAPT group and DAPT + PPI group [risk ratio (RR) = 0.93, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.81–1.06, p = 0.27, I2 = 0%]; conversely, the incidence of gastrointestinal events was significantly decreased in the DAPT + PPI group in comparison with the DAPT group (RR = 0.33, 95% CI = 0.24–0.45, p < 0.00001, I2 = 0%). TSA of MACEs and gastrointestinal events revealed that meta-analysis included adequate trials (required sample size = 6874) in the pool to achieve 80% study power. Conclusions: Based on our results, DAPT + PPI can significantly reduce gastrointestinal outcomes without affecting cardiovascular outcomes in PCI and ACS patients compared to DAPT.

Abstract This study characterized the effect of green manures (February orchid, hairy vetch, rattail fescue and a no-green-manure control) and the termination method (flail or disk) on nutrient contents, enzyme activities, microbial biomass, microbial community structure of rhizosphere soil and vegetative growth of walnut tree. All three selected green manures significantly enhanced the water content, organic C, total N and available P. The rattail fescue significantly decreased the mineral N. Total organic C, total N, mineral N and available P were significantly greater under flail than under disk. Hairy vetch and February orchid significantly improved levels of soil β-glucosidase, N-acetyl-glucosaminidase and acid phosphatase activity, whereas rattail fescue improved only β-glucosidase activity. All of the green manures significantly decreased phenoloxidase activity. β-glucosidase, N-acetyl-glucosaminidase and acid phosphatase activities were significantly greater under flail relative to disk. The termination method had no significant effect on phenoloxidase activity. The different types of green manures and termination methods significantly altered the soil microbial biomass and microbial community structure. The green-manure treatments were characterized by a significantly greater abundance of Gram-positive (Gram +) bacteria, total bacteria and saprophytic fungi compared to the control. Hairy vetch significantly decreased the abundance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) while February orchid and rattail fescue increased their abundance compared to the no-green-manure treatment. The abundance rates of Gram+ bacteria, actinomycetes, saprophytic fungi and AMF were significantly greater in soils under flail than under disk. In terms of vegetative growth of walnut tree, hairy vetch showed the greatest positive effects. The growth of walnut tree was significantly greater under flail relative to disk. Our results indicate that green-manure application benefits the rhizosphere soil micro-ecology, rhizosphere soil nutrient contents and tree growth. Overall, the hairy vetch and flail combined treatment is recommended for walnut orchards in northern China.

Zirconium alloys, which are widely used as cladding materials in nuclear reactors, are prone to react with oxygen (O). Furthermore, the ω-Zr in zirconium alloys can significantly increase the strength and hardness of these alloys, but there is a lack of reports on the behavior of oxygen in ω-Zr in the current literature. To investigate their interactions, we have studied the behavior of O in ω-Zr using the first-principles approach. In this work, we examined the effects of vacancy and alloying elements (Nb, Sn) on the behavior of O in ω-Zr. The results show that O with a formation energy of −5.96 eV preferentially occupies an octahedral interstitial position in ω-Zr. A vacancy reduces the formation energy of O in a tetrahedral interstitial position in ω-Zr. Nb and Sn decrease the formation energy of O in the octahedral interstitial position by 6.16 eV and 5.08 eV. Vacancy effectively reduces the diffusion barrier of O around it, which facilitates the diffusion of O in ω-Zr. Nb and Sn preferentially occupy the 1b and 2d substitution sites in ω-Zr, respectively. Nb makes the diffusion barrier of O in ω-Zr lower and promotes the diffusion of O in ω-Zr. Moreover, Sn makes the diffusion of O around Sn difficult. It was further found that O is less prone to form clusters in ω-Zr and tends to independently occupy interstitial positions in ω-Zr. In particular, a single vacancy would make the binding energy between O atoms to be further reduced.

This study applied a steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) based brain–computer interface (BCI) to a patient in lock-in state with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and validated its feasibility for communication. The developed calibration-free and asynchronous spelling system provided a natural and efficient communication experience for the patient, achieving a maximum free-spelling accuracy above 90% and an information transfer rate of over 22.203 bits/min. A set of standard frequency scanning and task spelling data were also acquired to evaluate the patient’s SSVEP response and to facilitate further personalized BCI design. The results demonstrated that the proposed SSVEP-based BCI system was practical and efficient enough to provide daily life communication for ALS patients.

With the rapid development of molecular breeding technology and many new varieties breeding, a method is urgently needed to identify different varieties accurately and quickly. Using this method can not only help farmers feel convenient and efficient in the normal cultivation and breeding process but also protect the interests of breeders, producers and users. In this study, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data of 533 Oryza sativa, 284 Solanum tuberosum and 247 Sus scrofa and 544 Manihot esculenta Crantz were used. The original SNPs were filtered and screened to remove the SNPs with deletion number more than 1% or the homozygous genotype 0/0 and 1/1 number less than 2. The correlation between SNPs were calculated, and the two adjacent SNPs with correlation R2 > 0.95 were retained. The genetic algorithm program was developed to convert the genotype format and randomly combine SNPs to calculate a set of a small number of SNPs which could distinguish all varieties in different species as fingerprint data, using Matlab platform. The successful construction of three sets of fingerprints showed that the method developed in this study was effective in animals and plants. The population structure analysis showed that the genetic algorithm could effectively obtain the core SNPs for constructing fingerprints, and the fingerprint was practical and effective. At present, the two-dimensional code of Manihot esculenta Crantz fingerprint obtained by this method has been applied to field planting. This study provides a novel idea for the Oryza sativa, Solanum tuberosum, Sus scrofa and Manihot esculenta Crantz identification of various species, lays foundation for the cultivation and identification of new varieties, and provides theoretical significance for many other species fingerprints construction.

Abstract Investigations on external electrostatic field (EEF)‐enhanced liquid water evaporation have been reported decades ago, which suggest that molecular alignment and polarization tuned by EEF accelerating the phase change process could be responsible for EEF‐enhanced water evaporation. However, a detailed study revealing the role of EEF in altering the intermolecular and intramolecular water structure is lacking. Herein, an EEF is proved to tune water state by accelerating the thermal movement of water molecules, lowering the molecular escaping energy, and loosening the hydrogen bond structure. The detailed mechanisms and field interactions (heat and electrostatic) are investigated by in situ Raman characterizations and molecular dynamic simulations, which reveal that an EEF can effectively reduce the free energy barrier of water evaporation and then increase the evaporated water molecule flux. As a proof of concept, an EEF is integrated into an interfacial two‐dimentional solar steam generator, enhancing the efficiency by up to 15.6%. Similar to a catalyst lowing activation energy and enhancing kinetics of a chemical reaction, the EEF enhances water state tuning, lowers evaporation enthalpy, and then boosts steam generation rate with negligible additional energy consumption, which can serve as a generic method for water evaporation enhancement in water harvesting, purification, and beyond.

In nuclear reactors, inelastic neutron scattering is a significant energy-loss mechanism which has deep impacts on designments of nuclear reactor and radiation shielding. Iron is an important material in reactor. However, for the existing nuclear data for iron, there exists an obvious divergence for the inelastic scattering cross sections and the related gamma production sections. Therefore the precise measurements are urgently needed for satisfying the demanding to design new nuclear reactors (fast reactors), Accelerator Driven Subcritical System (ADS), and other nuclear apparatus. In this paper, we report a new system with an array of HPGe detectors, electronics and acquisition system. Experiments had been carried out on three neutron facilities.
