32. Analysis of nonuniformities of sampled fiber Bragg gratings

Abstract

We have analyzed the effects of various normally distributed nonuniformities of sampled fiber Bragg gratings on the reflective spectra and group time delay. Through numerical simulations we have drawn the following conclusions: (1) the magnitude of nonuniformity with normal distribution of the fiber's average refractive-index modulation [bar][delta][n.sub.eff] greatly influences the characteristics of both reflective spectra and group time delay, whose suggested precision varies from 20% to 10%; (2) the nonuniformities of sampling periods P and sampling lengths L are important factors that influence the characteristics of the group time delay, and the accepted tolerance of dimensional precision of both P and L are [+ or -] 4 [micro]m; and (3) the tolerance of nonuniformity of the sampling period's chirp coefficient is high, and its precision can be as great as 100% with few adverse effects. Abstract

A stable single-longitudinal-mode dual-wavelength( SLM-DW) multiple ring fiber laser with a tunable wavelength spacing was proposed and demonstrated. In the multiple ring cavities, the mode selection is made by the tunable digital micro-mirror device( DMD) filter and two different length passive sub-ring cavities. The DMD filter can select and couple any two wavelengths from the gain spectrum of the erbium-doped fiber( EDF). The SLM lasing is guaranteed by the two sub-ring cavities which serve as a mode filter. The stable and uniform dual wave length oscillation is obtained by the highly-nonlinear photonic crystal fiber( HN-PCF),which can generate the four-wave-mixing( FWM) effective. By loading different gratings on the DMD filter without any mechanically shift,the tunable wavelength spacing from appropriately 0. 165 nm to 1. 08 nm within a tuning accuracy of 0. 055 nm is achieved at room temperature.

Abstract

In this research, a 8 x 10 Gbit/s all-optical DWDM system (with five OADMs and six OXCs nodes) is developed to analyze and simulate the influence of fiber chromatic dispersion, its nonlinearity and optical switch insulator on the system of BER. The conclusion is that if the fiber nonlinearity is lower than 1.7 10 -20 m 2 /W and chromatic dispersion index is less than 1.1 ps/nm.km and the optical switch insulator is less than 50 dB, the system designed can be run smoothly.

Abstract

The paper proposes a novel OCDMA system based on wavelength-converter and programmable electrical controller. The electrical DS (direct sequence spread spectrum)/FH (frequency hopping) in CDMA is used in our system. The designed system doesn't need fiber taps and only very short optical pulses. It integrates the success on the OCDMA and OWDMA techniques.

Abstract

A dynamically en-/de-coding scheme is presented. It bases on the uniform fiber Bragg grating arrays whose center wavelengths can be adjusted by the piezo-electric element. A set of code family is used and need not restrict side-peak of its auto-correlation. The receiver can blindly receive incoming optical datum streams, although the datum rates of users are different. It is the first time that all user data can access to network at various encoding rates according to the load of network. The results of numerical simulations show that the best receiving and the least probability of error bit are earned by this scheme.
