As graphene-related technology advances, the benefits of graphene metamaterials become more apparent. In this study, a surface-isolated exciton-based absorber is built by running relevant simulations on graphene, which can achieve more than 98% perfect absorption at multiple frequencies in the MWIR (MediumWavelength Infra-Red (MWIR) band as compared to the typical absorber. The absorber consists of three layers: the bottom layer is gold, the middle layer is dielectric, and the top layer is patterned with graphene. Tunability was achieved by electrically altering graphene's Fermi energy, hence the position of the absorption peak. The influence of graphene's relaxation time on the sensor is discussed. Due to the symmetry of its structure, different angles of light source incidence have little effect on the absorption rate, leading to polarization insensitivity, especially for TE waves, and this absorber has polarization insensitivity at ultra-wide-angle degrees. The sensor is characterized by its tunability, polarisation insensitivity, and high sensitivity, with a sensitivity of up to 21.60 THz/refractive index unit (RIU). This paper demonstrates the feasibility of the multi-frequency sensor and provides a theoretical basis for the realization of the multi-frequency sensor. The permeability coefficient of construction materials plays a crucial role in engineering quality and durability. In this study, a microstructure model based on real aggregate shape and digital image technology is proposed to predict the permeability coefficient of concrete. A two-dimensional, three-component finite element model of cement concrete was established considering the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between aggregate and mortar. The permeability coefficient prediction model was developed by the finite element method. The accuracy of the model was verified by experimental data, and the influence of the water−cement ratio on the permeability coefficient of concrete was analyzed. The results show that this method has good prediction accuracy with a relative error of 1.73%. According to the verified model, the influences of aggregate content, aggregate characteristics, aggregate location, ITZ thickness, and other factors on the permeability of concrete were explored. The higher the water−cement ratio, the higher the permeability coefficient. With the increase in aggregate content, the permeability coefficient decreases. Aggregate permeability has a significant influence on the effective permeability coefficient of concrete within a certain range. The greater the roundness of aggregate, the greater the permeability of concrete. On the contrary, the larger aggregate size causes lower permeability. The permeability coefficient of concrete with segregation is lower than that with uniform distribution. At the same time, the permeability increases with the increase of ITZ thickness. As a solid waste from steel making, steel slag can be recycled to replace natural aggregates (NA) for developing steel slag aggregate (SSA) concrete, an environmentally friendly construction material. In order to evaluate the effect of steel slag on the permeability of SSA concrete, which may have a potential impact on the structure durability, this study presented a multi-scale finite element (FE) method for investigating the seepage process and mechanism inside the SSA concrete. The above FE method consisted of a microscale mortar model and a mesoscale concrete model, developed by integrating image processing technique and random aggregate method. The permeability coefficient of SSA concrete was evaluated with the above multi-scale FE method and was validated with experiment. The relative differences between the numerical simulation and experimental mean values of the permeability coefficients are 3.38∼5.94 %. Based on the validated method, the effects of steel slag on the seepage characteristics of concrete were analyzed. Results show that the incorporation of steel slag could decrease the permeability of concrete by reducing the mortar porosity in the microscale and reducing the thickness of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between aggregate and mortar in the mesoscale. Using over-simplified aggregate shapes in numerical simulation may underestimate the permeability coefficient of concrete, which emphasizes the importance of refined modelling. The permeability coefficient of concrete may exhibit anisotropy. When considering lateral water permeation, aggregates with aspect ratios close to one may offer superior resistance to seepage. Infrared band occupies a very important position in the electromagnetic wave band. Traditional infrared devices use the inherent properties of natural materials to achieve the regulation of electromagnetic waves, but the limited ability of such devices to regulate electromagnetic waves can't well meet our needs. In this paper, we reported a metamaterial absorber of Cr-Si 3 N 4 -Cr-Si 3 N 4 -Ti based on double-layer metal-insulator-metal (MIM). It is investigated with the optimal structural parameters of 490 nm, 330 nm, 30 nm, 720 nm, 120 nm, in descending order, at which the absorptive properties are studied. When the light wave is incident vertically, it can be obtained from the experimental simulation that this absorber has polarisation insensitivity. Because of the coupling effect of the surface plasmon resonance and the high-loss material, the bandwidth of absorption greater than 90% can reach 9190 nm, and the average absorption in the target long-wave infrared band (9.506∼18.145 μm) is 94.8%. By selecting different geometrical parameters of the structure, the absorption spectrum can be adjusted independently. In addition, the absorber has good incident angle insensitivity in TE and TM modes. Also, the absorber we proposed has a plain structure, is convenient for manufacturing, the material is easier to obtain, which ensures a good absorption bandwidth and average absorptivity, and the study of this metamaterial absorber has important applications in solar cells, satellite radiothermographs, photodetectors, and spectral imaging. In this work, we simulate and calculate the performance of a broadband absorber based on a double-layer MIM structure. The results show that the absorber can achieve an average absorption of 90% in the range of 9.48–18.67 μm and 94.8% in the targeted longwave infrared band (9.506–18.145 μm). In response to the broadband absorption, we designed the schematic structure of the absorber based on the MIM (metal-dielectric-metal) structure. The structure of each cell is composed of a two-layer MIM structure, from top to bottom, Cr, Si 3 N 4 ,Cr,Si 3 N 4 ,Ti.The simulation results show that two resonant modes are generated at 10.25μm and 16.75μm, and the absorption rates are 98.9% and 99.3%, respectively. Then, the geometric parameters of the structure are adjusted respectively to get the best parameter values. In addition, the comparison of several different microstructures proves the advantages of our designed structure. We also simulate the absorption characteristic curves at different incidence angles and different polarization modes. Finally, we compare by changing the type of metal and medium. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common reproductive endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, which often leads to female infertility. Chronic inflammation is a significant factor in the development of PCOS. Our study aimed to explore the impact of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF), a scientifically validated anti-inflammatory factor, on 99 diagnosed PCOS patients. We also investigated its effects on PCOS mice induced with dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and KGN cells induced with dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Our findings revealed a decrease in serum MANF levels in PCOS patients, which were negatively associated with serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels. The administration of recombinant human MANF (rhMANF) in PCOS mice demonstrated a decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokines and monocytes/macrophages in both peripheral blood and ovarian tissues. Furthermore, the inclusion of rhMANF notably ameliorated DHEA-induced ovarian dysfunction and fibrosis by negatively regulating the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB)-NLR family, pyrin domain containing protein 3 (NLRP3) pathway. Additionally, in vitro experiments showed that the up-regulation of MANF offset DHT-induced inhibition of viability and apoptosis in KGN cells. Random fields are widely used to represent the uncertainty of some parameters in engineering, and numerous simulation approaches have been developed for Gaussian and non-Gaussian random fields. However, the unified methods among them suffer from low computational accuracy and efficiency or discontinuities in the simulated random fields. Therefore, an easy-to-implement general simulation method based on the active learning Kriging model is proposed for a one dimensional(1D) Gaussian or non-Gaussian random field in this paper. In the proposed method, there are two stages. One stage, called the inner loop, is to construct the Kriging approximation of a random field sample with enough accuracy by some samples of the random variables at some discretized locations, in which an active learning strategy based on the error estimation for the Kriging model is introduced to select adaptively the added locations, and a fast sampling method is presented to determine efficiently the samples at the added locations. In the other stage, called the outer loop, some random field samples are represented accurately by their corresponding Kriging approximations through training iteratively. Furthermore, several numerical examples are presented to show the accuracy, effectiveness and generality of the proposed method for 1D Gaussian and non-Gaussian random fields by comparing with the Karhunen–Loève(KL) expansion method. Removal of U(VI) as a function of pH, ionic strength, reaction time, initial concentrations of U(VI), and temperature were studied and compared with pure LDH and nZVI, the LDH@nZVI had best U(VI) removal efficiency owning to the excellent synergistic combination of LDH adsorption and nZVI reduction. XPS analysis found that surface oxygen functional groups and surface-bound Fe(II) played a critical role in U(VI) remediation. The large surface areas (334.0 m2/g), abundant functional groups (i.e., M O, C O and OH), rapid kinetics (adsorption equilibrium within 1 h) and excellent adsorption capacities (176 mg/g) indicating that LDH@nZVI can be considered as a potential material for preconcentration of U(VI) from sewage water. Abstract Uranium is considered to be a strategic means for the nuclear power as well as a worldwide highly toxic pollutant. For the enhanced U(VI) elimination from wastewater, novel Co-Mo-Ni ternary hydroxide (CMN) and calcined CMN (CCMN) nanocomposites were prepared via a simplistic single-step hydrothermal technique and calcination process. The elimination process and adsorption property of U(VI) on CMN and CCMN were analysed by batch experiment as well as spectroscopy analysis, and the researches showed that U(VI) was formed stable and strong complexes with the surface groups of CMN and CCMN. The maximal removal capacities of U(VI) on CMN and CCMN amounted to be 585.6 and 973.7 mg/g at pH = 5.0 and T = 298 K, correspondingly, that exhibited competitiveness with the majority of the reported adsorbents. The U(VI) uptake was substantially impacted by the tested solution pH and not affected by the ionic strength, which revealed that the interaction mechanism was primarily inner-sphere surface complexation, which received further confirmation by the XPS analysis. Based on the above analyses, the facile synthesis process and excellent U(VI) elimination performance denoted that the ternary (hydr)oxide materials were applicable as an attractive adsorbent for the radionuclides preconcentration and removal from aqueous solutions in natural environmental management. Water pollution, a worldwide issue for the human society, has raised global concerns on environmental sustainability, calling for high-performance materials in effective pollution treatments. Boron nitride (BN) with a structure similar to graphene possesses many extraordinary properties such as high surface areas, high oxidization resistance at high temperature, and high chemical stability. This review presents the outstanding removal percentage and environmental restoration of BN-based nanomaterials for the elimination of various pollutants from the last ten years. Notably, recent advances in the removal of organic/inorganic pollutants and interaction mechanism are outlined. BN-based materials can not only preferably remove contaminants, but also can be directly regenerated by burning in air. The BN-based materials have satisfactory sorption capacities for inorganic pollutants (e.g. heavy metal ions) and organic pollutants (e.g. dyes and pharmaceutical molecules). The interaction mechanisms between pollutants and BN-based materials are mainly surface complexation, π-π stacking, and electrostatic interactions. This paper is beneficial to further comprehend the interactions of pollutants with BN-based materials, which is also helpful for the improvement of BN-based materials and potential areas for future applications in environment remediation. The biological toxicity and negative environmental effect of graphene oxide (GO) have attracted wide public concern due to its potential risks. To assess the transport behavior and to reduce the environmental hazardous of GO in natural environment, ZnO and MgO were used as coagulant for GO removal from aqueous solutions. The results indicated that GO coagulation on ZnO and MgO were scarcely affected by ionic strength. At neutral pH, the GO removal capacities could reach 232.8 mg/g on MgO and 210.8 mg/g on ZnO. The high removal capacity and short coagulation time showed the enormous advantages for the high-efficiency removal of GO from aqueous solutions, which were important for the real application of MgO and ZnO in reality. The coagulation mechanisms of GO on ZnO and MgO could be attributed to electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bond, which were further demonstrated by DFT calculations. Considering the cost, efficiency, removal capacity and reusability, one can conclude that metal oxides can be promising materials for GO efficient removal by a simple and rapid coagulation process. The findings can provide critical information about the physicochemical behavior of GO in aquatic natural environment, which is significant to decrease the environmental toxicity of GO. Aniline is toxic and hard to be degraded, and thereby causes the environmental pollution seriously. Herein, a practical and green hydrothermal method was applied to fabricate terephthalic acid and pyromellitic acid intercalated layered double hydroxides (LDH) (named as TAL and PAL) for aniline efficient removal. The sorption of aniline on LDH-based materials were investigated at different experimental conditions, and the results indicated that aniline sorption on LDH, TAL and PAL were strongly dependent on pH and independent of ionic strength. The maximum sorption capacities of aniline on TAL and PAL at pH 5.0 and 293 K were 90.4 and 130.0 mg/g, respectively, which were significantly higher than that of aniline on LDH (52.6 mg/g). Based on the BET, FTIR and XPS analysis, the higher sorption capacities of TAL and PAL were mainly due to high surface area and basal spacing as well as the abundant functional groups (e.g. –COO − ). The interactions of aniline with TAL and PAL were mainly dominated by hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions. Such a facile synthesis method, efficient removal performance and superior reusability indicated that the aromatic acid modified LDH materials had potential application for efficient treatment of organic pollutants in environmental pollution cleanup. The uncalcined glycerol-modified nanocrystallined Mg/Al layered double hydroxides (named as G-LDH) and calcined G-LDH (named as G-LDO) with molar ratio of Mg:Al = 3:1 were successfully synthesized using an easy and green hydrothermal method, and were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, N 2 Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area measurement, Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The as-synthesized G-LDH and G-LDO were applied as adsorbents to remove methyl orange (MO) from aqueous solutions at different experimental conditions, and the results showed that the interaction of MO with G-LDH and G-LDO were strongly pH-dependent and ionic strength-independent. Kinetic study indicated the MO adsorption on G-LDH and G-LDO were well simulated by pseudo-second-order model. The MO adsorption on G-LDH and G-LDO were well simulated by Langmuir model, and the maximum adsorption capacity of G-LDO (q max = 1062.3 mg/g) was much higher than that of G-LDH (q max = 443.5 mg/g) at pH = 4.5. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from temperature-dependent isotherms indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and exothermal process. The FT-IR and XRD analysis further evidenced that the interaction of MO with G-LDH was mainly dominated by electrostatic interaction, ion exchange, hydrogen bonding and surface complexation, whereas the uptake of MO to G-LDO was mainly attributed to electrostatic interaction and surface complexation. Understanding the rate and extent of 63 Ni(II) sorption and desorption on/from mineral surfaces are important to predict its mobility performance in the natural environment. We herein systematically investigated the effects of pH, electrolyte cations, humic acid (HA) and temperature on 63 Ni(II) sorption/desorption on/from Na-montmorillonite. The results indicated that the sorption/desorption of 63 Ni(II) on/from Na-montmorillonite were strongly dependent on pH and electrolyte cations. Desorption abilities of 63 Ni(II) were Na + ≈ K + > Ca 2+ ≈ Mg 2+ at the cationic concentration of 0.2 mol/L, which was associated with the clay tactoid size. The kinetic results suggested that 63 Ni(II) sorption/desorption initially increased rapidly and remained constant as time increasing. The presence of HA influenced 63 Ni(II) sorption clearly and promoted 63 Ni(II) desorption as a result of the dissolution of ternary surface complexes. Increasing temperature was favorable for the sorption reaction owing to the formation of strong inner-sphere complexes, however, hampered the desorption reaction because of the increased stability of inner-sphere complexes or the aggregation of montmorillonite. The removal of Pb(II) from wastewater by Ca-rectorite was investigated as various environmental factors containing contact time, pH, ionic strength, solid content, coexisting ions, humic acid (HA), and temperature. The kinetic sorption of Pb(II) on Ca-rectorite was well described by the pseudo second-order model. The sorption process was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. The results indicated that the presence of HA and coexisting ions influenced the sorption of Pb(II) on Ca-rectorite obviously. Besides, the Langmuir and Freundlich models were employed to simulate the sorption isotherms. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the sorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. Clay minerals have been studied extensively due to their strong sorption and complexation ability toward various environmental pollutants. In this study, the sorption of 90 Sr(II) on Na-montmorillonite was studied as a function of various environmental conditions such as pH, ionic strength, humic acid (HA) and temperature. The results indicated that the sorption of 90 Sr(II) on Na-montmorillonite was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. The experimental data of 90 Sr(II) sorption was simulated by the diffuse-layer model (DLM) well with the aid of Visual Minteq 3.0. At low pH, the sorption of 90 Sr(II) was dominated by outer-sphere surface complexation and ion exchange with Na + /H + on Na-montmorillonite surfaces, whereas inner-sphere surface complexation was the main sorption mechanism at high pH. The presence of HA enhanced 90 Sr(II) sorption at pH < 7.0 but decreased 90 Sr(II) sorption at pH > 7.0. Langmuir and Freundlich models were used to simulate the sorption isotherms of 90 Sr(II) at three different temperatures of 303, 318 and 333 K. The thermodynamic parameters (Δ H , Δ S and Δ G ) calculated from the temperature-dependent sorption isotherms indicated that the sorption of 90 Sr(II) on Na-montmorillonite was an endothermic and spontaneous process. Abstract: A highly sensitive label-free immunosensor for the detection of kanamycin had been developed using silver hybridized mesoporous ferroferric oxide nanoparticles (Ag@Fe3O4 NPs) and thionine mixed graphene sheet (TH-GS). TH was used as an electron transfer mediator. The electrical signal was greatly improved in the presence of GS due to its good electron-transfer ability. With the advantages of large specific surface area and excellent electrical conductivity, Ag@Fe3O4 NPs could immobilize more antibodies of kanamycin and promote the electron transfer. Cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry were used to characterize the recognition of kanamycin. The proposed immunosensor showed good performances such as low detection limit (15pgmL−1), wide linear range (from 0.050 to 16ngmL−1), short analysis time (3min), high stability, and good selectivity in the detection of kanamycin. In this article, an easy, effective, π-π conjugation non-covalent surface functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was achieved by using ball grinding technology between pristine MWCNTs and esterified styrene-maleic anhydride ester (ESMA) copolymer, resulting in the formation of modified E-MWCNTs dispersion with excellent dispersibility and long storage stability in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). The analysis of transmittance spectroscopy, absorption spectroscopy, sedimentation photo, and transmittance electron microscopy (TEM) confirms that the modified E-MWCNT dispersion has a homogeneous dispersion in NMP. Results obtained from thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) and Raman spectroscopy reveal that ESMA copolymer is successfully coated on pristine MWCNTs surface. Compared with the bad dispersibility of MWCNTs in NMP, the physically modified E-MWCNTs-3 dispersion mixed with 0.12wt% ESMA copolymer under the condition of total 6 h ball grinding time using paint shaker can be easily well-dispersed and has good storage stability, and no sedimentation is observed more than 3 months. Furthermore, the method is simple and economical to operate in industry. Although graphene oxide (GO) has been used in multidisciplinary areas due to its excellent physicochemical properties, its environmental behavior and fate are still largely unclear. In this study, batch experiments, spectroscopy analysis and theoretical calculations were addressed to promote a more comprehensive understanding toward the coagulation behavior of GO onto TiO2 under various environmental conditions (pH, co-existing ions, temperature, etc.). The results indicated that neutral pH was beneficial to the removal of GO due to the electrostatic interaction. The presence of cations accelerated GO coagulation significantly owing to the influence of electrical double layer compression. On the contrary, the presence of anions improved the stability of GO primarily because of electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance. Results of XRD, FTIR and XPS analysis indicated that the coagulation of GO on TiO2 was mainly dominated by electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonds, which were further evidenced by DFT calculations. The high binding energy further indicated the stability of GO + TiO2 system, suggesting that TiO2 can be used as an effective coagulant for the efficient elimination and coagulation of GO from aqueous solutions. In this work, an easy, green, π-π conjugation non-covalent surface modification of pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) was carried out by using ultrasonic technology between pristine SWCNT and anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl benzene cyclate (SDBS) and sodium polynaphthalene sulfonate (SPS)), resulting in the formation of modified SWCNT dispersion with good dispersibility and long storage stability in water. Results obtained from transmittance spectroscopy, absorption spectroscopy, zeta potential analyzer, sedimentation photo, and transmittance electron microscopy (TEM) reveals that the modified SWCNT dispersion has a high degree of dispersion. The analysis of thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) confirm that two kinds of dispersants are successfully decorated on pristine SWCNT surface. More importantly, the pristine SWCNT is insoluble, while the modified S2-SWCNT dispersion mixed with 1.25 wt% SDBS and 1.00 wt% SPS correspondingly under the condition of total 3 h ultrasonic time can be easily well-dispersed in water and has good storage stability, and no sedimentation is observed more than 3 months.
