Under the dual pressures of repeated impacts from the pandemic and global economic downturn, the deterioration trend of social security is evident. In 2021 and 2022, the United Nations consecutively emphasized the centrality of reducing and preventing recidivism, aiming to foster research and practices in crime prevention. Developing and applying crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) theory provides a viable approach to reducing crime. Utilizing the relevant literature on environmental design for crime prevention from the Web of Science Core Collection database and employing Cite Space software, this study systematically delineates the research trajectory of crime prevention through environmental design. The research uses bibliometrics and literature analysis methods to identify research hotspots and trends in the field. Building upon these findings, the study proposes that future research in CPTED should systematically explore the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of the impact of urban built and social environments on crime. It also advocates for in-depth investigations into the long-term causal relationship between environmental features and crime under the framework of CPTED. The study emphasizes the exploration of the local applicability of CPTED theory under conditions of multiculturalism and regional differences. This helps to propose crime prevention strategies for new social issues and crime patterns, thereby providing strong support for the sustainable development of cities.

The association between the exposure of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and serum uric acid (UA) levels remained uncertain. In this study, to investigate the combined effects of OCP mixtures on hyperuricemia, we analyzed serum OCPs and UA levels in adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005–2016). Four statistical models including weighted logistic regression, weighted quantile sum (WQS), quantile g-computation (QGC), and bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were used to assess the relationship between mixed chemical exposures and hyperuricemia. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore potential modifiers. Among 6,529 participants, the prevalence of hyperuricemia was 21.15%. Logistic regression revealed a significant association between both hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and trans-nonachlor and hyperuricemia in the fifth quintile (OR: 1.54, 95% CI: 1.08–2.19; OR: 1.58, 95% CI: 1.05–2.39, respectively), utilizing the first quintile as a reference. WQS and QGC analyses showed significant overall effects of OCPs on hyperuricemia, with an OR of 1.25 (95% CI: 1.09–1.44) and 1.20 (95% CI: 1.06–1.37), respectively. BKMR indicated a positive trend between mixed OCPs and hyperuricemia, with HCB having the largest weight in all three mixture analyses. Subgroup analyses revealed that females, individuals aged 50 years and above, and those with a low income were more vulnerable to mixed OCP exposure. These results highlight the urgent need to protect vulnerable populations from OCPs and to properly evaluate the health effects of multiple exposures on hyperuricemia using mutual validation approaches.

Abstract This cross-sectional study investigated the association between glaucoma and B vitamin dietary intake. A total of 5025 enrolled individuals participated in self-reported glaucoma questionnaire and 3264 participated in International Society Geographical and Epidemiological Ophthalmology (ISGEO) criteria. In self-reported glaucoma, the risk of having self-reported glaucoma was lower in the third quartile of vitamin B1 intake (odds ratio [odds ratio [OR] 0.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.40–0.97), and P trend (P trend = 0.004) for vitamin B12 was significant; in males, the third quartile of vitamin B1 intake (OR 0.44, 95% CI 0.24–0.83) and the fourth quartile of vitamin B2 intake (OR 0.39, 95% CI 0.17–0.89) were associated with a lower risk. In glaucoma based on ISGEO criteria, the increase of niacin intake (OR 0.94, 95% CI 0.89–0.99) was negatively associated with the odds of self-reported glaucoma. After sex-stratified analysis, the third quartile of vitamin B6 intake (OR 0.21, 95% CI 0.08–0.60) in males were associated with reduced odds of glaucoma. The restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a nonlinear association of vitamin B2 (p for nonlinearity = 0.04) and B9 (p for nonlinearity = 0.024) intake with glaucoma diagnosed by ISGEO criteria in females.

Legal judgment prediction implies predicting judgment results based on the case description suitable for judgment predictions in legal terms, crimes, fines, and punishment. This study examines Chinese legal cases, focusing on legal predictions based on deep learning multiple fusion models. It aims to analyze case descriptions and predict legal terms and fines. The use of artificial intelligence models to predict the law can solve the problem of increasing workload of legal institutions and personnel because of the increasing number of cases; and simultaneously, reduce the differences in judgment. This will improve the efficiency and fairness of legal judgments. This study used the BDCI2017 dataset for experiments and applied deep learning algorithms to improve the prediction accuracy. Various models, such as TextCNN, TextRNN, Wide & TextCNN, and TextDenseNet classify cases and fines. Results revealed that TextDenseNet is better than the other model structures in terms of predictive accuracy.

Nodular fasciitis (NF) is a benign and self-limiting fibroblastic proliferation that originates from the superficial fascia and extends into the subcutaneous tissue or muscle. It typically manifests in individuals aged 20 to 35 years, with rare occurrences observed in patients over the age of 60 years. We herein report a case involving a 75-year-old man with NF in the right vocal cord. The patient sought medical attention at the Department of Otolaryngology of our hospital because of a 1-month history of hoarseness and breathlessness. The diagnosis was unable to be confirmed through preoperative pathological examination. After admission to our hospital, various examinations were completed and surgical treatment was performed, and the postoperative histopathological findings revealed the presence of NF in the right vocal cord. NF of the vocal cord is a rare clinical entity. Given its rapid progression and propensity for marked infiltration, it often poses diagnostic challenges because it can mimic various malignant soft tissue tumors. Therefore, thorough exclusion of other neoplastic lesions is imperative prior to confirming the diagnosis of NF through pathological examination. Local surgical resection remains the primary treatment modality.

IntroductionHow to scientifically assess the health status of cities and effectively assist in formulating policies and planning for health city development remains a profound challenge in building a global “health community.”MethodsThis study employs the Building Research Establishment’s International Healthy Cities Index (BRE HCI), encompassing ten environmental categories and fifty-eight indicators, to guide and support the scientific development of healthy cities. The entropy weight-TOPSIS method and the rank sum ratio (RSR) method were applied to comprehensively rank and categorize the health development levels of fifteen global cities. Furthermore, through cluster analysis, this research identifies universal and unique indicators that influence the development of healthy cities.ResultsThe results indicate that: (1) Within the scope of 58 evaluation indicators, the precedence in weight allocation is accorded to the kilometres of bicycle paths and lanes per 100,000 population (0.068), succeeded by m2 of public indoor recreation space per capita (0.047), and kilometres of bicycle paths and lanes per 100,000 population (0.042). (2) Among the ten environmental categories, the top three in terms of weight ranking are transport (0.239), leisure and recreation (0.172), and resilience (0.125). Significant disparities exist between different cities and environmental categories, with the issue of uneven health development within cities being particularly prominent. (3) The study categorizes the development levels of healthy cities into three tiers based on composite scores: it classifies Singapore, Shanghai, and Amsterdam at an excellent level; places Dubai and Johannesburg at a comparatively poor level; and situates the remaining ten cities at a moderate level. (4) The analysis identifies 53 international common indicators and 5 characteristic indicators from the 58 indicators based on the significance of the clustering analysis (p < 0.05).DiscussionThe study proposes four strategic recommendations based on these findings: establishing a comprehensive policy assurance system, refining urban spatial planning, expanding avenues for multi-party participation, and augmenting distinctive health indicators. These measures aim to narrow the developmental disparities between cities and contribute to healthy global cities’ balanced and sustainable growth. However, due to existing limitations in sample selection, research methodology application, and the control of potential confounding variables, further in-depth studies are required in the future.

Invasive Spartina alterniflora (S. alterniflora) has significant impacts on sediment biogeochemical cycling in the tidal wetlands of estuaries and coasts. However, the impact of exotic Spartina alterniflora invasion on greenhouse gases (GHGs) production dynamics in sediments remain limited. Here, we investigated the dynamics of sediment physicochemical properties, GHGs production rates, and microbial gene abundances in a native Cyperus malacensis habitat and three invasive S. alterniflora habitats (6-, 10-, and 14-year) in the Minjiang River Estuary, China. The methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrous oxide (N2O) production rates varied both spatially and seasonally, while microbial gene abundances (bacterial and fungal gene abundances) and organic matter (TOC and TN) only varied spatially. GHGs production rates were also characterized by higher values in surface sediment (0–10 cm) compared to subsurface sediment (10–20 cm) and by seasonal variations with higher values in summer than in winter. S. alterniflora invasion can significantly increase CH4 and CO2 production rates, organic matter, and microbial gene abundances (p < 0.05). Temperature, organic matter and microbial gene abundances were the most dominating factor controlling the spatio-temporal variations of CH4 and CO2 production rates. Overall, our findings highlighted the significant role of S. alterniflora invasion in regulating GHGs production rates in coastal wetland sediments and provided fundamental data for estimating GHGs emissions and carbon sequestration in the complex tidal wetlands.

Fe-Cu-C ternary micro-electrolytic material was prepared by carbothermal reduction method with copper slag as raw material to remove benzohydroxamic acid（BHA） from mineral processing wastewater. The experimental results of preparation conditions showed that Fe-Cu-C prepared at 1 100 ℃，40 min and 35% anthracite had the best effect on the removal of BHA. The Fe-Cu-C was characterized by XRD，SEM and EDS. The results showed that the material had a porous structure and was a supported ternary micro-electrolytic material with Fe-Cu-C alloy，Cu-Fe-C alloy，free carbon as the main active component and quartz as the carrier. The experimental results of reaction condition showed that 2.50 g/L Fe-Cu-C could remove more than 86% of 50 mg/L BHA at the solution temperature of 28 ℃ and pH of 4.0-9.0. Pb（NO3）2 and Na2CO3 have little effect on Fe-Cu-C removal of BHA，while Na2SiO3 had certain inhibitory effect.

Abstract Trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV) has been withdrawn and instead an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) and bivalent type 1 and type 3 OPV (bOPV) sequential immunization schedule has been implemented since 2016, but no immune persistence data are available for this polio vaccination strategy. This study aimed to assess immune persistence following different polio sequential immunization schedules. Venous blood was collected at 24, 36, and 48 months of age from participants who had completed sequential schedules of combined IPV and OPV in phase III clinical trials. The serum neutralizing antibody titers against poliovirus were determined, and the poliovirus-specific antibody-positive rates were evaluated. A total of 1104 participants were enrolled in this study. The positive rates of poliovirus type 1- and type 3-specific antibodies among the sequential immunization groups showed no significant difference at 24, 36, or 48 months of age. The positive rates of poliovirus type 2-specific antibody in the IPV-IPV-tOPV group at all time points were nearly 100%, which was significantly higher than the corresponding rates in other immunization groups (IPV-bOPV-bOPV and IPV-IPV-bOPV). Immunization schedules involving one or two doses of IPV followed by bOPV failed to maintain a high positive rate for poliovirus type 2-specific antibody.

Abstract Background Screen the priority of emerging contaminants (ECs) from sediments is essential for risk assessment to aquatic environment and human health. Currently, priority approaches mainly focus on contaminant identification, exposure analysis, risk assessment, and hazard properties. However, there is still far from the reality due to, for instance, limitations on lack of occurrence data and uncertainty analysis. In this study, the multi-criteria screening method on the basis of hazard potential (HP) and exposure potential (EP) integrating with uncertainty analysis was developed for prioritization of 185 ECs, which have been reported to be widely found in the Yangtze River sediment. The HP based on the ecological risk and human health, and the EP according to the occurrence were both quantitatively analyzed. The priority index of these 185 chemicals was the product of the normalized HP and the normalized EP. Results According to the priority ranking scheme, 20 chemicals were identified as the top-priority, and 58 compounds as high-priority, respectively. After uncertainty scoring for each chemical based on data availability, there were 7 compounds (5 pesticides and 2 PFASs) recommended as the major priority ECs. In addition, the current study also emphasized that necessary for further studying some ECs, such as PFAS alternatives, as the data limitation may lead to reduce accurate prioritization. Conclusions Overall, this study provides an efficient approach for screening priority ECs, which is useful for river ecosystem health management.

Abstract Background Classifying and characterizing pulmonary lesions are critical for clinical decision-making process to identify optimal therapeutic strategies. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a radiomics nomogram for distinguishing between benign and malignant pulmonary lesions based on robust features derived from diffusion images. Material and methods The study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, we prospectively collected 30 patients with pulmonary nodule/mass who underwent twice EPI-DWI scans. The robustness of features between the two scans was evaluated using the concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) and dynamic range (DR). In the second phase, 139 patients who underwent pulmonary DWI were randomly divided into training and test sets in a 7:3 ratio. Maximum relevance minimum redundancy, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator, and logistic regression were used for feature selection and construction of radiomics signatures. Nomograms were established incorporating clinical features, radiomics signatures, and ADC(0, 800). The diagnostic efficiency of different models was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis. Results Among the features extracted from DWI and ADC images, 42.7% and 37.4% were stable (both CCC and DR ≥ 0.85). The AUCs for distinguishing pulmonary lesions in the test set for clinical model, ADC, ADC radiomics signatures, and DWI radiomics signatures were 0.694, 0.802, 0.885, and 0.767, respectively. The nomogram exhibited the best differentiation performance (AUC = 0.923). The decision curve showed that the nomogram consistently outperformed ADC value and clinical model in lesion differentiation. Conclusion Our study demonstrates the robustness of radiomics features derived from lung DWI. The ADC radiomics nomogram shows superior clinical net benefits compared to conventional clinical models or ADC values alone in distinguishing solitary pulmonary lesions, offering a promising tool for noninvasive, precision diagnosis in lung cancer.

Abstract The cGAS-STING signaling pathway has emerged as a critical mediator of innate immune responses, playing a crucial role in improving antitumor immunity through immune effector responses. Targeting the cGAS-STING pathway holds promise for overcoming immunosuppressive tumor microenvironments (TME) and promoting effective tumor elimination. However, systemic administration of current STING agonists faces challenges related to low bioavailability and potential adverse effects, thus limiting their clinical applicability. Recently, nanotechnology-based strategies have been developed to modulate TMEs for robust immunotherapeutic responses. The encapsulation and delivery of STING agonists within nanoparticles (STING-NPs) present an attractive avenue for antitumor immunotherapy. This review explores a range of nanoparticles designed to encapsulate STING agonists, highlighting their benefits, including favorable biocompatibility, improved tumor penetration, and efficient intracellular delivery of STING agonists. The review also summarizes the immunomodulatory impacts of STING-NPs on the TME, including enhanced secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, dendritic cell activation, cytotoxic T cell priming, macrophage re-education, and vasculature normalization. Furthermore, the review offers insights into co-delivered nanoplatforms involving STING agonists alongside antitumor agents such as chemotherapeutic compounds, immune checkpoint inhibitors, antigen peptides, and other immune adjuvants. These platforms demonstrate remarkable versatility in inducing immunogenic responses within the TME, ultimately amplifying the potential for antitumor immunotherapy.

The incidence of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is steadily rising, and it is associated with a high mortality rate. Clinical samples were collected to detect the expression of HSPB8 and BAG3 in ICC tissues. ICC cells were cultured and transfected with plasmids that overexpressed or silenced specific genes to investigate the impact of gene expression alterations on cell function. qPCR and Western blot techniques were utilized to measure gene and protein expression levels. A wound healing assay was conducted to assess cell migration ability. The Transwell assay was used to assess cell invasion ability. Co-IP was used to verify the binding relationship between HSPB8 and BAG3. The effects of HSPB8 and BAG3 on lung metastasis of tumors in vivo were verified by constructing a metastatic tumor model. Through the above experiments, we discovered that the expressions of HSPB8 and BAG3 were up-regulated in ICC tissues and cells, and their expressions were positively correlated. The metastatic ability of ICC cells could be promoted or inhibited by upregulating or downregulating the expression of BAG3. Furthermore, the HSPB8-BAG3 chaperone complex resulted in the abnormal degradation of Filamin A by activating autophagy. Increased expression of Filamin A inhibits the migration and invasion of ICC cells. Overexpression of HSPB8 and BAG3 in vivo promoted the lung metastasis ability of ICC cells. The HSPB8-BAG3 chaperone complex promotes ICC cell migration and invasion by regulating CASA-mediated degradation of Filamin A, offering insights for enhancing ICC therapeutic strategies.

BackgroundClinically, the diagnosis and treatment of cholangiocarcinoma are generally different according to the location of occurrence, and the studies rarely consider the differences between different pathological types. Cholangiocarcinomas in large- and middle-sized intrahepatic bile ducts are mostly mucinous, while in small sized bile duct are not; mucinous extrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas are also more common than mucinous intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. However, it is unclear whether these pathological type differences are related to the prognosis.MethodsData of total 22509 patients was analyzed from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program database out of which 22299 patients were diagnosed with common adeno cholangiocarcinoma while 210 were diagnosed with mucinous cholangiocarcinoma. Based on the propensity score matching (PSM) analysis, between these two groups’ clinical, demographic, and therapeutic features were contrasted. The data were analyzed using Cox and LASSO regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Ultimately, overall survival (OS) and cancer specific survival (CSS) related prognostic models were established and validated in test and external datasets and nomograms were created to forecast these patients’ prognosis.ResultsThere was no difference in prognosis between mucinous cholangiocarcinoma and adeno cholangiocarcinoma. Therefore, we constructed prognostic model and nomogram that can be used for mucinous and adeno cholangiocarcinoma at the same time. By comparing the 9 independent key characteristics i.e. Age, tumor size, the number of primary tumors, AJCC stage, Grade, lymph node status, metastasis, surgery and chemotherapy, risk scores were calculated for each individual. By integrating these two pathological types in OS and CSS prognostic models, effective prognosis prediction results could be achieved in multiple datasets (OS: AUC 0.70–0.87; CSS: AUC 0.74–0.89).ConclusionAge, tumor size, the number of primary tumors, AJCC stage, Grade, lymph node status, metastasis, surgery and chemotherapy are the independent prognostic factors in OS or CSS of the patients with mucinous and ordinary cholangiocarcinoma. Nomogram that can be used for mucinous and adeno cholangiocarcinoma at the same time is of significance in clinical practice and management of cholangiocarcinoma.

Invasive Spartina alterniflora has significant impacts on sediment carbon pool and turnover in the tidal wetlands of estuaries and coasts. Yet, how this exotic S. alterniflora affects sediment organic carbon mineralization dynamics remains poorly understood. In this study, sediment geochemical properties, organic carbon fractions, and mineralization dynamics were examined in a native Cyperus malaccensis habitat and three invasive S. alterniflora habitats (6-, 10-, and 14-year-old) in summer and winter. We found that invasive S. alterniflora generally increased sediment total organic carbon and their labile fraction contents. The organic carbon mineralization rates and cumulative carbon mineralization amounts were significantly influenced by invasive S. alterniflora, and their values increased with this exotic plant invasion chronosequences. The mineralization rates and cumulative mineralization amounts were also characterized by higher values in surface sediment (0 – 10 cm depth) compared to subsurface sediment (10 – 20 cm depth) and by seasonal variations with higher values in summer than in winter. The sediment organic carbon labile fractions, rather than total organic carbon, were the most important factor affecting carbon mineralization dynamics. The cumulative carbon mineralization amounts exhibited an excellent fit to the first-order kinetic equation (R2 ≥ 0.93). The changes in modeled kinetic parameters (potential carbon mineralization amounts (C0) and carbon mineralization rate constant (k)) among these four habitats were similar to carbon mineralization rates, implying invasive S. alterniflora promoted the availabilities of organic compounds for microbial respiration metabolism. Overall, our findings highlighted the importance of S. alterniflora invasion in accelerating organic carbon decomposition and carbon dioxide release potential, although it also increases carbon accumulation.

Background: Pancreatic mucinous adenocarcinoma (PMAC) is a rare malignant tumour, and there is limited understanding of its epidemiology and prognosis. Initially, PMAC was considered a metastatic manifestation of other cancers; however, instances of non-metastatic PMAC have been documented through monitoring, epidemiological studies, and data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of PMAC and discern the prognostic differences between PMAC and the more prevalent pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Methods: The study used data from the SEER database from 2000 to 2018 to identify patients diagnosed with PMAC or PDAC. To ensure comparable demographic characteristics between PDAC and PMAC, propensity score matching was employed. Kaplan–Meier analysis was used to analyse overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to determine independent risk factors influencing OS and CSS. Additionally, the construction and validation of risk-scoring models for OS and CSS were achieved through the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator-Cox regression technique. Results: The SEER database included 84,857 patients with PDAC and 3345 patients with PMAC. Notably, significant distinctions were observed in the distribution of tumour sites, diagnosis time, use of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, tumour size, grading, and staging between the two groups. BackgroundInsomnia affects the quality of life of a significant number of individuals worldwide. Despite the fact that pharmaceutical sleep treatments have shown brief enhancements in sleep quality, these are still not recommended for the long-term management of sleep issues. To deal with this problem, our study aims to assess the effectiveness of auricular acupressure for treating insomnia by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodData from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of auricular acupressure for insomnia was collected from five English-language databases (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, EMBASE, AMED, and CINAHL) and four Chinese databases (CBM, CNKI, CQVIP, and Wanfang). Relevant data were extracted by two reviewers. I2 statistics were adopted to appraise heterogeneity. A network meta-analysis was applied to compare the effect of auricular acupressure with other methods.ResultIn all, 23 RCTs involving a total of 1,689 patients were included. The results demonstrated a significant decrease in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score for the intervention group compared to the control group [SMD = −1.30, 95% CI (−1.65, −0.96), I2 = 90%]. Furthermore, the group receiving auricular acupressure in addition to usual care showed a lower PSQI score compared to the usual care group [SMD = −1.13, 95% CI (−1.33, −0.93), I2 = 23%]. Auricular acupressure was found to enhance the effectiveness of estazolam in improving PSQI score, with the combination of auricular acupressure and estazolam resulting in a lower PSQI score [MD = −4.8, 95% CI (−7.4, −2.1)]. Importantly, no serious adverse events were reported. In patients with insomnia following stroke, the intervention group (which received auricular acupressure) exhibited a lower PSQI score compared to the control group [SMD = −0.74, 95% CI (−1.03, −0.46), I2 = 0%]. Similarly, in patients with insomnia related to cancer, the intervention group (receiving auricular acupressure) demonstrated a lower PSQI score compared to the control group [SMD = −0.99, 95% CI (−1.37, −0.61), I2 = 0%].ConclusionThe effects of auricular acupressure on insomnia are comparable to those of estazolam. Furthermore, auricular acupressure can serve as a complementary treatment to estazolam or other interventions, effectively improving symptoms of insomnia.

The curative effect of single therapy for advanced cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is poor, thus investigating combined treatment strategies holds promise for improving prognosis. Surufatinib (SUR) is a novel multikinase inhibitor that has been confirmed to prolong survival of patients with advanced CCA. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) can also ablate advanced CCA and relieve biliary obstruction. In this study, we explored the anti-CCA effect of SUR combined with PDT, and explored the underlying mechanism. We found that SUR could effectively inhibit the abilities of proliferation, migration and metastasis in CCA cells (HUCCT-1, RBE). The ability of SUR to inhibit CCA was also confirmed by the HUCCT-1 cell xenograft model in Balb/c nude mice and CCA patient-derived organoids. SUR combined with PDT can significantly enhance the inhibitory effect on CCA, and can be alleviated by two ferroptosis inhibitors (Ferrostatin-1, Deferoxamine). By detecting the level of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxides, malondialdehyde and glutathione, we further confirmed that SUR combined with PDT can inhibit CCA cells by inducing ferroptosis. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) belongs to the glutathione peroxidase family and is mainly responsible for the metabolism of intracellular hydrogen peroxide. GPX4 inhibits ferroptosis by reducing cytotoxic lipid peroxides (L-OOH) to the corresponding alcohols (L-OH). Acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) is a member of the long-chain fatty acid coenzyme a synthetase family and is mainly involved in the biosynthesis and catabolism of fatty acids. ACSL4 induces ferroptosis by promoting the accumulation of lipid peroxides. Both SUR and PDT can induce ferroptosis by promoting ACSL4 and inhibiting GPX4. The regulation effect is found to be more significant in combined treatment group. In conclusion, SUR combined with PDT exerted an anti-CCA effect by inducing ferroptosis. Combination therapy provides a new idea for the clinical treatment of CCA.

Safety has become the bottom line and fundamental goal of urban renewal with the accelerated urbanization process. Building a safe and stable urban residential environment is a meaningful way to improve cities’ “social-ecological” resilience. Based on the theory of environmental crime prevention and space syntax, taking Tiexinli old residential area in Qinhuangdao City as the research object, using Depth map software to quantitatively analyze the integration degree, synergy degree, connectivity degree, depth value, visual clustering coefficient, and choice value of the residential space, the results show that the accessibility of the spatial system of the old residential area is differentiated. The accessibility of the by-pass road is the lowest and lacks activity support. The spatial layout of the residential area is single and concurrent, and the entrances, exits, and the subsidiary road fail to play a good role in ” access control. ” The environment and landscape of green space between houses and negative space in the residential area are poorly maintained, and the visibility effect is limited. Therefore, the renovation of the old residential area should focus on optimizing the road system, increasing the monitoring of the activities of the people, and enriching the activities of the public space. This research contributes to addressing potential crime issues in urban renewal. It offers feasible and forward-looking approaches to crime prevention and control in the redevelopment of old residential areas in Asian countries. Additionally, this method can be applied in the planning and design of new residential areas to identify and rectify potential crime risks within design schemes, ensuring the safety and living quality of residential communities.

Starter cultures can help improve the quality and safety of traditional fermented meat products. This work was conducted to evaluate the effects of the inoculum of Staphylococcus xylosus on the quality characteristics of a Sichuan cured rabbit product (Chan Si Tu). Physicochemical analyses showed that meats inoculated with S. xylosus had a significant increase in lightness, redness, cohesiveness and chewiness (P1 were proposed as the most odouractive compounds that enhanced the complexity of the product. Thus, inoculation with S. xylosus in the cured rabbit meat product (Chan Si Tu) can effectively enhance the product quality.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to develop ready-to-use standard strains of Salmonella typhimurium （S. typhimurium） TA97， TA98， TA100， and TA102 for mutagenicity testing.MethodsFreeze-dried strains of S. typhimurium TA97， TA98， TA100， and TA102 at both high and low concentrations were quantified. The spontaneous reversion rate of the freeze-dried strains after 3， 5， 7， and 18 h was measured. Homogeneity， storage and transportation stability， spontaneous revertant frequency， and mutagenic agent mutation rate of the ready-to-use standard strains were evaluated following the CNAS-GL003 2018 “Guidelines for the Evaluation of Homogeneity and Stability of Proficiency Testing Samples” and GB 15193.4—2014 “National Food Safety Standard - Bacterial Reverse Mutation Test.” Standard deviations of spontaneous revertant frequency and mutagenic agent mutation rate test results between 20 ready-to-use standard strains and fresh strains were compared.ResultsHigh-concentration lyophilized samples had concentrations ranging from 107-108 CFU/sample， while low-concentration samples had concentrations ranging from 105-106 CFU/sample. The spontaneous reversion rate results after 18 h of incubation met the requirements of GB 15193.4—2014. Homogeneity results for the four ready-to-use standard strains showed F-values of 1.12， 1.05， 1.68， and 1.38， with F < F0.05 （19，20）， meeting CNAS-GL003 requirements. The detection results for the four freeze-dried strains stored at 25 ℃ for 5 d， 4 ℃ for 14 d， and -20 ℃ for 6 months met storage and transportation stability requirements. The standard deviation of spontaneous revertant frequency in the 20 ready-to-use freeze-dried standard strains was smaller than that of fresh strains.ConclusionThe ready-to-use standard strains developed in this study exhibit excellent homogeneity， storage， and transportation stability. Moreover， the stability of spontaneous revertant frequency in the ready-to-use freeze-dried standard strains surpasses that of fresh strains.

Creating healthy street environments to encourage physical activity is an effective strategy against non-communicable diseases exacerbated by rapid urbanization globally. Developing countries face more significant health challenges than developed ones. However, existing research predominantly focuses on the perspective of developed countries. To address the health challenges in developing nations, studies should not only draw on the findings from developed countries but also clearly define unique research processes and pathways. Consequently, this study conducts a comparative analysis between China, representing developing countries, and developed nations, using databases like China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Web of Science (WOS) and tools such as Citespace, Bicomb, and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to explore research hotspots, developmental trajectories, thematic categories, and trends. The findings reveal a shift in developed countries from macro-material to micro-environmental elements under multidisciplinary scrutiny, while future topics may include street space evaluations and psychological healing. In China, research has been dominated by different disciplines at various stages, starting with medical attention to chronic disease prevention, which then shifted to traffic engineering’s focus on constructing green travel environments, and finally expanded to disciplines like landscape architecture examining the impact of street environment elements on pedestrian behavioural perceptions. Future themes will focus on promoting elderly health and urban health transport systems. Generally, research in developed countries exhibits a “bottom-up” approach, with practical issues at a “post-evaluation” stage, primarily based on the “socio-ecological model” and emphasizing multidisciplinary collaboration. Chinese research shows a “top-down” characteristic, driven by national policies and at a “pre-planning” stage, integrating theories such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and attention restoration theory, with relatively loose disciplinary cooperation. Overall, research is shifting from macro to human-centric scales and is progressively utilizing multi-source and multi-scale big data analysis methods. Based on this, future research and development recommendations are proposed for developing countries, with China as a representative example.

Train wheels are crucial components for ensuring the safety of trains. The accurate and fast identification of wheel tread defects is necessary for the timely maintenance of wheels, which is essential for achieving the premise of conditional repair. Image-based detection methods are commonly used for detecting tread defects, but they still have issues with the misdetection of water stains and the leaking of small defects. In this paper, we address the challenges posed by the detection of wheel tread defects by proposing improvements to the YOLOv8 model. Firstly, the impact of water stains on tread defect detection is avoided by optimising the structure of the detection layer. Secondly, an improved SPPCSPC module is introduced to enhance the detection of small targets. Finally, the SIoU loss function is used to accelerate the convergence speed of the network, which ensures defect recognition accuracy with high operational efficiency. Validation was performed on the constructed tread defect dataset. The results demonstrate that the enhanced YOLOv8 model in this paper outperforms the original network and significantly improves the tread defect detection indexes. The average precision, accuracy, and recall reached 96.95%, 96.30%, and 95.31%.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) holds a great promise for cancer patients, however, due to the hypoxic characteristics of most solid tumors and the limited penetration depth of light in tissues, the extensive clinical application of PDT is limited. Herein, we report microwave induced copper-cysteamine (Cu-Cy) nanoparticles-based PDT as a promising cancer treatment to overcome cancer resistance in combination with ferroptosis. The treatment efficiency of Cu-Cy-mediated microwave dynamic therapy (MWDT) tested on HCT15 colorectal cancer (CRC) cells via cell titer-blue cell viability assay and live/dead assay reveal that Cu-Cy upon MW irradiation can effectively destroy HCT15 CRC cells with average IC-50 values of 20 μg/mL. The cytotoxicity of Cu-Cy to tumor cells after MW stimulation can be alleviated by ferroptosis inhibitor. Furthermore, Cu-Cy mediated MWDT could deplete glutathione peroxide 4 (GPX4) and enhance lipid peroxides (LPO) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Our findings demonstrate that MW-activated Cu-Cy killed CRC cells by inducing ferroptosis. The superior in vivo antitumor efficacy of the Cu-Cy was corroborated by a HCT15 tumor-bearing mice model. Immunohistochemical experiments showed that the GPX4 expression level in Cu-Cy + MW group was significantly lower than that in other groups. Overall, these findings demonstrate that Cu-Cy nanoparticles have a safe and promising clinical application prospect in MWDT for deep-seated tumors and effectively inhibit tumor cell proliferation by inducing ferroptosis, which provides a potential solution for cancer resistance.

In order to explore the species composition, spatial distribution and relationship between the phytoplankton community and environmental factors in Lake Longhu, the phytoplankton community structures and environmental factors were investigated in July 2020. Clustering analysis (CA) and analysis of similarities (ANOSIM) were used to identify differences in phytoplankton community composition. Generalized additive model (GAM) and variance partitioning analysis (VPA) were further analyzed the contribution of spatial distribution and environmental factors in phytoplankton community composition. The critical environmental factors influencing phytoplankton community were identified using redundancy analysis (RDA). The results showed that a total of 68 species of phytoplankton were found in 7 phyla in Lake Longhu. Phytoplankton density ranged from 4.43 × 105 to 2.89 × 106 ind./L, with the average density of 2.56 × 106 ind./L; the biomass ranged from 0.58–71.28 mg/L, with the average biomass of 29.38 mg/L. Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta and Cyanophyta contributed more to the total density, while Chlorophyta and Cryptophyta contributed more to the total biomass. The CA and ANOSIM analysis indicated that there were obvious differences in the spatial distribution of phytoplankton communities. The GAM and VPA analysis demonstrated that the phytoplankton community had obvious distance attenuation effect, and environmental factors had spatial autocorrelation phenomenon, which significantly affected the phytoplankton community construction. There were significant distance attenuation effects and spatial autocorrelation of environmental factors that together drove the composition and distribution of phytoplankton community structure. In addition, pH, water temperature, nitrate nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen and chemical oxygen demand were the main environmental factors affecting the composition of phytoplankton species in Lake Longhu.

The rapid invasion and spread of Spartina alterniflora will cause great damage to the ecological environment of the invasive areas. Spartina alterniflora is widely distributed in coastal areas from north to south of China, which seriously reduces the biodiversity and ecological barrier function of the coastal zone. The main control methods of Spartina alterniflora invasion in China include physical, chemical and biological control. At present, the single control methods, such as mowing, crushing and burying, and cofferdam flooding, can effectively control the invasion of Spartina alterniflora in small areas, but the control effect of large areas or patches is not good. Based on the analysis and comparison of the existing control methods, combined with the practical experience of scientific research, this paper put forward a comprehensive control method of Spartina alterniflora suitable for different areas of China, which combined the physical control method, chemical control method and biological control method.

This paper uses finite element differential equations to control the frequency of occurrence of pop music notes. This method avoids the repetition of dissonant notes in the song. The motivation for inspiration is used as a template in the system. Various musical techniques and rules are added to the composition process. The algorithm enables the musical composition to form a variety of other representations. The finite element differential equation algorithm used the 1/f noise ratio theory to verify that the frequency of note occurrence is directly related to how people feel when listening to music.

The cleanliness of transferred graphene is crucial for its application in various fields. The presence of residues of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) on the surface of transferred graphene has a negative impact on its transparency, transport, and other critical properties. In this study, we propose an alternative method to reduce such residues by using acetic acid instead of the commonly used acetone. The effects of treating graphene with acetic acid and acetone are comprehensively evaluated through optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results of this study demonstrate a significant reduction in surface residue when graphene is treated with acetic acid, compared to acetone treatment. Additionally, we applied this method to fabricate graphene-based supercapacitors and compared the results using acetic acid and acetone. This reduction in residue holds great promise for advancing the development of high-quality graphene devices.

Being overweight is a risk for various chronic diseases. Alginate, a soluble dietary fiber extracted from seaweed, has been linked to weight loss with unclear mechanisms. We conducted a double-blind, randomized trial in overweight or normal-weight adults to explore alginate’s weight loss effect and mechanism. Normal-weight or overweight participants were randomized to receive either alginate (15 g/day) or maltodextrin (13.8 g/day) for 14 weeks. Compared to maltodextrin (−0.91 kg; 95% CI, −1.91 to 0.10), alginate helped overweight subjects lose weight (−2.67 kg; 95% CI, −3.89 to −1.46) (P = 0.0017) after 14 weeks. In overweight subjects, alginate increased fecal-conjugated bile acids (taurocholate acid and taurochenodeoxycholic acid) and reduced bile acid-related bacteria (Bacteroides, Oscillibacter and Eubacterium). Our results indicate that alginate decreases weight and increases bile acid excretion in overweight subjects, related to gut microbiota alterations and inhibited intestinal bile acid absorption.

BackgroundPancreatic signet ring cell carcinoma (PSRCC) is a rare and aggressive cancer that has been reported primarily as case reports. Due to limited large-scale epidemiological and prognostic analyses, the outcomes of PSRCC patients varies greatly in the absence of recognized first-line treatment strategies. This study aimed to compare the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of PSRCC and pancreatic ductal cell carcinoma (PDAC), the most common subtype of pancreatic cancer, and to establish predictive models for these subtypes.MethodsThe data on PSRCC and PDAC patients from 1998 to 2018 was obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Thereafter, the clinical, demographic, and treatment characteristics of the two groups and the differences and influencing factors of the two groups were evaluated by propensity score matching (PSM), Kaplan–Meier survival curves, Cox risk regression analyses, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis. Next, prognosis models were constructed and validated by KM and ROC analysis. Finally, a nomogram was constructed, based on the results of these analyses, to predict survival outcomes of PSRCC and PDAC patients.ResultsA total of 84,789 patients (432 PSRCC and 84357 PDAC patients) were included in this study. The results of the study revealed that, compared to the PDAC patients, PSRCC patients were more likely to be male, aged between 58–72 years, have larger tumor masses, and less likely to undergo chemotherapy. Before PSM, the overall survival and cancer-specific survival of the PSRCC group were significantly lower than those PDAC group, but there was no difference in the prognosis of the two groups after PSM. Additionally, lymph node ratio (LNR), log odds of positive lymph node (LODDS), tumor size, age, T-stage, marital status, and summary stage were found to be independent prognostic factors for PSRCC. Lastly, the prediction model and nomogram based on these prognostic factors could accurately predict the survival rate of the patients in SEER datasets and external validation datasets.ConclusionThe prognosis of PSRCC and PDAC patients is similar under the same conditions; however, PSRCC patients may have more difficulty in receiving better treatment, thus resulting in their poor prognosis.

The synergy of clean energy and electric vehicles (EVs) is highly relevant in achieving low-carbon development. To promote the coordinated development of EVs and photovoltaics (PV) under the background of open power selling, a PV–EV bidding model that considers carbon emissions based on the distributed storage and smart contract technology of a blockchain is proposed in this study. This model aims to provide economic benefits to market players, ensure the safety and environmental protection of power grid operations, and integrate the ladder-type carbon emission trading mechanism. Then, it divides the electricity market into the electricity sales layer, i.e., active distribution networks (ADNs) and PV systems, and the electricity purchase layer, i.e., EVs. Smart contracts are signed with the agent layer, i.e., charging stations. The improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the price and power of PV systems and EVs in the optimal contract, and the revenue of PV systems and EVs can be increased by over 35%. Moreover, the orderly charging and discharging of EVs is coordinated with the characteristics of the daily power generation and evening load peaks of PV systems. The proposed model can effectively provide an optimal scheduling scheme for peak load shifting and valley filling while reducing the carbon emissions of ADNs. It also promotes the local consumption of PV.

Rural farmers face different challenges from climate change and weather variability, which have threatened crop production and productivity. Small-scale farmers try to cope with the prevailing situations by adjusting to different mechanisms, including adopting irrigation services. This study seeks to determine factors influencing rice farmers' decision to adopt irrigation technology and determine the significant contribution of irrigation to rice yields in the Mbeya Region of Tanzania. Data was collected through structured questionnaires, interviews, and focus discussions. Descriptive statistics, Logistic regression, and Ordinary Least Square regression by Stata software performed data analyses. The descriptive statistics characterized households' socio-demographic and economic characteristics. Logistic regression results affirmed that households' education, labor size, meteorological information, access to financial services, extension services, and previous farm outputs significantly influenced irrigation adoption by farmers. Ordinary Least Square regression results confirmed that irrigation significantly contributed to rice yield at P>0.05 level. The study recommends adopting irrigation technology in Tanzania as a coping strategy for the negative impact of climate change and weather variations.

Organoids are stem cell-derived, self-organizing, 3D structures. Compared to the conventional 2D cell culture method, 3D cultured organoids contain a variety of cell types that can form functional “micro-organs” and can be used to simulate the occurrence process and physiological pathological state of organ tissues more effectively. Nanomaterials (NMs) are becoming indispensable in the development of novel organoids. Understanding the application of nanomaterials in organoid construction can, therefore, provide researchers with ideas for the development of novel organoids. Here, we discuss the application status of NMs in various organoid culture systems and the research direction of NMs combined with organoids in the biomedical field.

Ferroptosis is a programmed death mode that regulates redox homeostasis in cells, and recent studies suggest that it is a promising mode of tumor cell death. Ferroptosis is regulated by iron metabolism, lipid metabolism, and intracellular reducing substances, which is the mechanism basis of its combination with photodynamic therapy (PDT). PDT generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and 1O2 through type I and type II photochemical reactions, and subsequently induces ferroptosis through the Fenton reaction and the peroxidation of cell membrane lipids. PDT kills tumor cells by generating excessive cytotoxic ROS. Due to the limited laser depth and photosensitizer enrichment, the systemic treatment effect of PDT is not good. Combining PDT with ferroptosis can compensate for these shortcomings. Nanoparticles constructed by photosensitizers and ferroptosis agonists are widely used in the field of combination therapy, and their targeting and biological safety can be improved through modification. These nanoparticles not only directly kill tumor cells but also further exert the synergistic effect of PDT and ferroptosis by activating antitumor immunity, improving the hypoxia microenvironment, and inhibiting the tumor angiogenesis. Ferroptosis-agonist-induced chemotherapy and PDT-induced ablation also have good clinical application prospects. In this review, we summarize the current research progress on PDT and ferroptosis and how PDT and ferroptosis promote each other.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to provide basis for the revision of GB 4789.28—2013 and the quality control of culture media by screening the quality control strains of culture media for salmonella test.MethodsThe strains specified in GB 4789.28 and 9 salmonella strains（Salmonella newport， salmonclla Infantis， Salmonella choleraesuis， Salmonella blegdam， Salmonella kottbus， Salmonella arizona， Salmonella dublin， Salmonella agona， Salmonella. anatis） isolated from real food were used to test the growth rate and selectivity of 10 different brands of media including Rappaport Vassiliadis Salmonella Enrichment， Selenite Cystine Broth， Tetrathionate Broth Base enriched broth， Bismuth Sulfite Agar， Hektoen Enteric Agar， Xylose Lysine Desoxycholate Agar by quantitative and semi-quantitative methods. It was evaluated whether the quality control strain used in GB4789.28—2013 could meet the quality control of salmonella media.ResultsThe results showed that the growth rate and selectivity of different media brands were different when the same strain was used， and Salmonella choleraesuis and Salmonella arizonae had higher requirements on the quality of media.ConclusionIt is suggested that medium production enterprises and microbiology laboratories should use strains isolated from food with higher quality requirement in medium testing， and the quality control methods should be highly standardized to ensure the stability and reliability of test data.

Abstract Background Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) relying on intracellular iron ions and H2O2 is a promising therapeutic strategy due to its tumor selectivity, which is limited by the not enough metal ions or H2O2 supply of tumor microenvironment. Herein, we presented an efficient CDT strategy based on Chinese herbal monomer-dihydroartemisinin (DHA) as a substitute for the H2O2 and recruiter of iron ions to amplify greatly the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation for synergetic CDT-ferroptosis therapy. Results The DHA@MIL-101 nanoreactor was prepared and characterized firstly. This nanoreactor degraded under the acid tumor microenvironment, thereby releasing DHA and iron ions. Subsequent experiments demonstrated DHA@MIL-101 significantly increased intracellular iron ions through collapsed nanoreactor and recruitment effect of DHA, further generating ROS thereupon. Meanwhile, ROS production introduced ferroptosis by depleting glutathione (GSH), inactivating glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), leading to lipid peroxide (LPO) accumulation. Furthermore, DHA also acted as an efficient ferroptosis molecular amplifier by direct inhibiting GPX4. The resulting ROS and LPO caused DNA and mitochondria damage to induce apoptosis of malignant cells. Finally, in vivo outcomes evidenced that DHA@MIL-101 nanoreactor exhibited prominent anti-cancer efficacy with minimal systemic toxicity. Conclusion In summary, DHA@MIL-101 nanoreactor boosts CDT and ferroptosis for synergistic cancer therapy by molecular amplifier DHA. This work provides a novel and effective approach for synergistic CDT-ferroptosis with Chinese herbal monomer-DHA and Nanomedicine. Graphical Abstract

ObjectiveTo evaluate the safety and clinical effect of tubular esophagogastric anastomosis in laparoscopic radical proximal gastrectomy.MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted involving 191 patients who underwent laparoscopic radical proximal gastrectomy in the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from January 2017 to October 2020. Patients were divided into tubular esophagogastric anastomosis group (TG group) and traditional esophagogastric anastomosis group (EG group) according to the digestive tract reconstruction. Their intraoperative conditions, perioperative recovery and postoperative follow-up were compared. Patients were also divided into indocyanine green group and non-indocyanine green group according to whether or not indocyanine green tracer technology was used during the operation. Their intraoperative condition and perioperative recovery were compared and analyzed after propensity score matching.ResultsThe operation was successfully completed in all patients. Compared with the EG group, the TG group had less volume of gastric tube drainage, shorter gastric tube drainage time and proton pump inhibitors application time, and lower reuse rate of proton pump inhibitors. However, the TG group had a higher anastomotic stenosis at three months after surgery, as measured using anastomotic width and dysphagia score. Nevertheless, the incidence of reflux esophagitis and postoperative quality of life score in the TG group were lower compared with the EG group at 1st and 2nd year after surgery. In the indocyanine green analysis, the indocyanine green group had significantly shorter total operation time and lymph node dissection time and less intraoperative blood loss compared with the non-indocyanine green group. However, compared with the non-indocyanine green group, more postoperative lymph nodes were obtained in the indocyanine green group.ConclusionLaparoscopic radical proximal gastrectomy is safe and effective treatment option for upper gastric cancer. Tubular esophagogastric anastomosis has more advantages in restoring postoperative gastrointestinal function and reducing reflux, but it has a higher incidence of postoperative anastomotic stenosis compared with traditional esophagogastrostomy. The application of indocyanine green tracer technique in laparoscopic radical proximal gastrectomy has positive significance.

Background and aimThe current study aimed to clarify the association between household polluting cooking fuels and adverse birth outcomes using previously published articles.MethodsIn this systematic review and meta-analysis, a systematic literature search in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were undertaken for relevant studies that had been published from inception to 16 January 2023. We calculated the overall odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for adverse birth outcomes [low birth weight (LBW), small for gestational age (SGA), stillbirth, and preterm birth (PTB)] associated with polluting cooking fuels (biomass, coal, and kerosene). Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were also conducted.ResultsWe included 16 cross-sectional, five case–control, and 11 cohort studies in the review. Polluting cooking fuels were found to be associated with LBW (OR: 1.37, 95% CI: 1.24, 1.52), SGA (OR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.13, 1.94), stillbirth (OR: 1.38, 95% CI: 1.23, 1.55), and PTB (OR: 1.27, 95% CI: 1.19, 1.36). The results of most of the subgroup analyses were consistent with the main results. In the meta-regression of LBW, study design (cohort study: P < 0.01; cross-sectional study: P < 0.01) and sample size (≥ 1000: P < 0.01) were the covariates associated with heterogeneity. Cooking fuel types (mixed fuel: P < 0.05) were the potentially heterogeneous source in the SGA analysis.ConclusionThe use of household polluting cooking fuels could be associated with LBW, SGA, stillbirth, and PTB. The limited literature, observational study design, exposure and outcome assessment, and residual confounding suggest that further strong epidemiological evidence with improved and standardized data was required to assess health risks from particular fuels and technologies utilized.

ABSTRACT Bradyrhizobium guangxiense CCBAU53363 efficiently nodulates peanut but exhibits incompatible interaction with mung bean. By comparing the common nod region with those of other peanut bradyrhizobia efficiently nodulating these two hosts, distinctive characteristics with a single nodD isoform (nodD1) and a truncated nolA were identified. However, the regulatory roles of NodD1 and NolA and their coordination in legume-bradyrhizobial interactions remain largely unknown in terms of explaining the contrasting symbiotic compatibility. Here, we report that nolA was important for CCBAU53363 symbiosis with peanut but restricted nodulation on mung bean, while nodD1 was dispensable for CCBAU53363 symbiosis with peanut but essential for nodulation on mung bean. Moreover, nolA exerted a cumulative contribution with nodD1 to efficient symbiosis with peanut. Additionally, mutants lacking nolA delayed nodulation on peanut, and both nolA and nodD1 were required for competitive nodule colonization. It is noteworth that most of the nodulation genes and type III secretion system (T3SS)-related genes were significantly downregulated in a strain 53ΔnodD1nolA mutant compared to wild-type strain CCBAU53363, and the downregulated nodulation genes also had a greater impact than T3SS-related genes on the symbiotic defect of 53ΔnodD1nolA on peanut, which was supported by a more severe symbiotic defect induced by 53ΔnodC than that with the 53ΔnodD1nopP, 53ΔnodD1rhcJ, and 53ΔnodD1ttsI mutants. NolA did not regulate nod gene expression but did regulate the T3SS effector gene nopP in an indirect way. Meanwhile, nolA, nodW, and some T3SS-related genes besides nopP were also demonstrated as new “repressors” that seriously impaired CCBAU53363 symbiosis with mung bean. Taken together, the roles and essentiality of nolA and nodD1 in modulating symbiotic compatibility are sophisticated and host dependent. IMPORTANCE The main findings of this study were that we clarified that the roles and essentiality of nodD1 and nolA are host dependent. Importantly, for the first time, NolA was found to positively regulate T3SS effector gene nopP to mediate incompatibility on mung bean. Additionally, NolA does not regulate nod genes, which are activated by NodD1. nolA exerts a cumulative effect with nodD1 on CCBAU53363 symbiosis with peanut. These findings shed new light on our understanding of coordinated regulation of NodD1 and NolA in peanut bradyrhizobia with different hosts.

ABSTRACT Verticillium dahliae Kleb is a typical soilborne pathogen that can cause vascular wilt disease on more than 400 plants. Functional analysis of genes related to the growth and virulence is crucial to revealing the molecular mechanism of the pathogenicity of V. dahliae. Glycosidase hydrolases can hydrolyze the glycosidic bond, and some can cause host plant immune response to V. dahliae. Here, we reported a functional validation of VdGAL4 as an α-galactosidase that belongs to glycoside hydrolase family 27. VdGAL4 could cause plant cell death, and its signal peptide plays an important role in cellular immune response. VdGAL4-triggered cell death depends on BAK1 and SOBIR1 in Nicotiana benthamiana. In V. dahliae, the function of VdGAL4 in mycelial growth, conidia, microsclerotium, and pathogenicity was studied by constructing VdGAL4 deletion and complementation mutants. Results showed that the deletion of VdGAL4 reduced the conidial yield and conidial germination rate of V. dahliae and changed the microscopic morphology of conidia; the mycelia were arranged more disorderly and were unable to produce microsclerotium. The VdGAL4 deletion mutants exhibited reduced utilization of different carbon sources, such as raffinose and sucrose. The VdGAL4 deletion mutants were also more sensitive to abiotic stress agents of SDS, sorbitol, low-temperature stress of 16°C, and high-temperature stress of 45°C. In addition, the VdGAL4 deletion mutants lost the ability to penetrate cellophane and its mycelium were disorderly arranged. Remarkably, VdGAL4 deletion mutants exhibited reduced pathogenicity of V. dahliae. These results showed that VdGAL4 played a critical role in the pathogenicity of V. dahliae by regulating mycelial growth, conidial morphology, and the formation of microsclerotium. IMPORTANCE This study showed that α-galactosidase VdGAL4 of V. dahliae could activate plant immune response and plays an important role in conidial morphology and yield, formation of microsclerotia, and mycelial penetration. VdGAL4 deletion mutants significantly reduced the pathogenicity of V. dahliae. These findings deepened the understanding of pathogenic virulence factors and how the mechanism of pathogenic fungi infected the host, which may help to seek new strategies for effective control of plant diseases caused by pathogenic fungi.

ObjectiveTo identify the gene subtypes related to immune cells of cholangiocarcinoma and construct an immune score model to predict the immunotherapy efficacy and prognosis for cholangiocarcinoma.MethodsBased on principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-cholangiocarcinoma, GSE107943 and E-MTAB-6389 datasets were combined as Joint data. Immune genes were downloaded from ImmPort. Univariate Cox survival analysis filtered prognostically associated immune genes, which would identify immune-related subtypes of cholangiocarcinoma. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) further screened immune genes with prognosis values, and tumor immune score was calculated for patients with cholangiocarcinoma after the combination of the three datasets. Kaplan-Meier curve analysis determined the optimal cut-off value, which was applied for dividing cholangiocarcinoma patients into low and high immune score group. To explore the differences in tumor microenvironment and immunotherapy between immune cell-related subtypes and immune score groups of cholangiocarcinoma.Results34 prognostic immune genes and three immunocell-related subtypes with statistically significant prognosis (IC1, IC2 and IC3) were identified. Among them, IC1 and IC3 showed higher immune cell infiltration, and IC3 may be more suitable for immunotherapy and chemotherapy. 10 immune genes with prognostic significance were screened by LASSO regression analysis, and a tumor immune score model was constructed. Kaplan-Meier (KM) and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that RiskScore had excellent prognostic prediction ability. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that 6 gene (NLRX1, AKT1, CSRP1, LEP, MUC4 and SEMA4B) of 10 genes were abnormal expressions between cancer and paracancer tissue. Immune cells infiltration in high immune score group was generally increased, and it was more suitable for chemotherapy. In GSE112366-Crohn’s disease dataset, 6 of 10 immune genes had expression differences between Crohn’s disease and healthy control. The area under ROC obtained 0.671 based on 10-immune gene signature. Moreover, the model had a sound performance in Crohn’s disease.ConclusionThe prediction of tumor immune score model in predicting immune microenvironment, immunotherapy and chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma has shown its potential for indicating the effect of immunotherapy on patients with cholangiocarcinoma.

The emotion analysis of hotel online reviews is discussed by using the neural network model BERT, which proves that this method can not only help hotel network platforms fully understand customer needs but also help customers find suitable hotels according to their needs and affordability and help hotel recommendations be more intelligent. Therefore, using the pretraining BERT model, a number of emotion analytical experiments were carried out through fine-tuning, and a model with high classification accuracy was obtained by frequently adjusting the parameters during the experiment. The BERT layer was taken as a word vector layer, and the input text sequence was used as the input to the BERT layer for vector transformation. The output vectors of BERT passed through the corresponding neural network and were then classified by the softmax activation function. ERNIE is an enhancement of the BERT layer. Both models can lead to good classification results, but the latter performs better. ERNIE exhibits stronger classification and stability than BERT, which provides a promising research direction for the field of tourism and hotels.

Background: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is a common aggressive malignant tumor. Heterogeneity in tumorigenesis and therapy response leads to an unsatisfactory overall survival of colon adenocarcinoma patients. Our study aimed to identify tools for a better prediction of colon adenocarcinoma prognosis, bolstering the development of a better personalized treatment and management.Method: We used the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox model to analyze the prognosis-related gene datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and verified them using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The area under the curve (AUC) was calculated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to evaluate the predictive ability of the risk score model. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) was used to identify the significantly enriched and depleted biological processes. The tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion (TIDE) algorithm was taken to explore the relationship between the risk score and immunotherapy. The observations collectively helped us construct a nomogram to predict prognosis. Finally, the correlation between drug sensitivity and prognostic gene sets was conducted based on the Cancer Therapeutics Response Portal (CTRP) analyses.Results: We constructed a scoring model to assess the significance of the prognosis risk-related gene signatures, which was relative to common tumor characteristics and tumor mutational burdens. Patients with a high-risk score had higher tumor stage and poor prognosis (p< 0.05). Moreover, the expressions of these genes were in correlation with changes in the tumor microenvironment (TME). The risk score is an independent prognostic factor for COAD (p< 0.05). The accuracy of the novel nomogram model with a risk score and TNM-stage prediction prognosis in the predicting prognosis was higher than that of the TNM stage. Further analysis showed that a high-risk score was associated with tumor immune rejection. Patients with a low-risk score have a better prognosis with chemotherapy than those with a high-risk score. Compared to patients in the high-risk group, patients in the low-risk group had a significant survival advantage after receiving chemotherapy. In addition, the prognostic gene sets aid the assessment of drug sensitivity.Conclusion: This study establishes a new prognostic model to better predict the clinical outcome and TME characteristics of colon adenocarcinoma. We believe, our model also serves as a useful clinical tool to strengthen the functioning of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted drugs.

Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most frequently occurring malignancy tumors with a high morbidity additionally, CRC patients may develop liver metastasis, which is the major cause of death. Despite significant advances in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, the survival rate of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) patients remains very low. CRLM, as a complex cascade reaction process involving multiple factors and procedures, has complex and diverse molecular mechanisms. In this review, we summarize the mechanisms/pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment of CRLM. We also focus on an overview of the recent advances in understanding the molecular basis of CRLM with a special emphasis on tumor microenvironment and promise of newer targeted therapies for CRLM, further improving the prognosis of CRLM patients.

Scientific documents contain a large number of mathematical expressions and texts containing mathematical semantics. Simply using mathematical expressions or text to retrieve scientific documents can hardly meet retrieval needs. The real difficulty in retrieving scientific documents is to effectively integrate mathematical expressions and related textual features. Therefore, this study proposes a multi-attribute scientific documents retrieval and ranking model based on GBDT (gradient boosting decision tree) and LR (logistic regression) by integrating the expressions and text contained in scientific documents. First, the similarities of the five attributes are calculated, including mathematical expression symbols, mathematical expression sub-forms, mathematical expression context, scientific document keywords and the frequency of mathematical expressions. Next, the GBDT model is used to discretize and reorganize the five attributes. Finally, the reorganized features are input into the LR model, and the final retrieval and ranking results of scientific documents are obtained. The experiment in this study was carried out on the NTCIR dataset. The average value of the final MAP@20 of the scientific document recall was 81.92%. The average value of the scientific document ranking nDCG@20 was 86.05%.

In this study, a Concept Question Answering system applied to the Computer Domain (CQACD) for intelligent tutoring is proposed. This system is a dialogue-based Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) that allows the tutor and student with mixed-initiative and natural language to ask each other questions concerning the basic computer knowledge in the Computer Basics course. CQACD is based on constructivist principles and encourages the learner to construct knowledge rather than merely receiving knowledge, which has the following characteristics: (a) this system employs a domain ontology with rich semantic relationships to model the basic computer knowledge and build up a concept-centric knowledge model, (b) uses a limited number of 80 input templates with description logics to acquire the intention of questions posed by students, (c) a textual entailment algorithm with semantic technologies is proposed to match the input template and assess the student’s contribution to improve the flexibility of the system, and (d) an ontology-driven dialogue management mechanism is proposed, which can quickly form the conversational content and conversational sequence. The experimental results show that CQACD can replace the teachers’ tutoring in large classes and can promote the learning of poor students in large classes better than teachers can. The paper reveals that the domain ontology with rich semantic relationships plays an important role in the Concept Question Answer System (CQAS). It can model CQAS’s discipline knowledge, provide structured domain knowledge for student model, template design and matching, and provide basic architectural architecture for dialogue management.

Background: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is a type of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a high incidence. About one-third of patients are resistant or eventually relapse. The prognosis for patients with relapsed/resistant diffuse large B-cell lymphoma who need salvage therapy is not optimistic. Aims: To explore whether homebox D3 binding to lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C promoted malignant progression of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma by decreasing p53 expression. Study Design: Cell culture study. Methods: The mRNA and protein expression of lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C and homebox D3 in cells were respectively detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis and Western blot. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis and Western blot were also applied to determine the transfection effects of shRNA-KDM5C or OeHOXD3 in OCI-Ly7 cells. After transfection, the cell viability, proliferation, and apoptosis were respectively analyzed by Cell Counting Kit-8 assay, EdU staining, and acridine orange—ethidium bromide staining. The interaction between homebox D3 and lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C promoter was verified by the dual-luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay. Results: Lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C mRNA expression (HBL1 2.84 ± 0.29; SUDHL4 3.53 ± 0.21; OCI-Ly8 4.06 ± 0.24; OCI-Ly7 5.03 ± 0.28 vs. GM12878 1.00 ± 0.07; all P < .001) and protein expression (HBL1 1.52 ± 0.06; SUDHL4 1.77 ± 0.10; OCI-Ly8 2.34 ± 0.07; OCI-Ly7 2.78 ± 0.07 vs. GM12878 1.00 ± 0.07; all P < .001) in DLBCL cells were higher than that in GM12878 cells and showed the highest in OCI-Ly7 cells. Homebox D3 mRNA (OCI-Ly7 3.85 ± 0.17 vs. GM12878 1.00 ± 0.05; P < .001) and protein (OCI-Ly7 1.73 ± 0.10 vs. GM12878 1.00 ± 0.06; P < .001) expression were also highly expressed in OCI-Ly7 cells. Moreover, down-regulation of lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C suppressed the viability and proliferation and enhanced the apoptosis of OCI-Ly7 cells. Knockdown of lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C decreased the B-cell lymphoma 2 expression while increased the expression of Bax, cleaved caspase 3, cytochrome C, p53, and p21. The transcription factor homebox D3 was confirmed to interact with the lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C promoter. Homebox D3 overexpression could reverse the regulating effect of down-regulation of lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C on the OCI-Ly7 cells. Conclusion: Homebox D3 up-regulating lysine (K)-specific demethylase 5C promotes malignant progression of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma by decreasing p53 expression.
