This paper discusses an artificial noise‐aided intelligent reflecting surface‐MIMO–OFDM system physical layer secure communication, in which two cases for the intelligent reflecting surface reflection coefficient models are considered separately, that is unit modulus constraint for the reflection coefficients and the more practical situation of amplitude phase‐shift dependence. Then the problem of joint optimisation for the precoding matrix, artificial noise covariance matrix and intelligent reflecting surface reflection coefficient matrix to maximise the sum secrecy rate under the power constraint at the transmitter is formulated, and then an alternate optimisation‐based inexact block coordinate descent algorithm is proposed to tackle the formulated non‐convexity problem. For the problem with unit modulus constraint for the intelligent reflecting surface reflection coefficients, closed‐form solutions of the optimisation variables are obtained by utilising the Lagrange multiplier method and the complex circular manifold method. For the problem with intelligent reflecting surface reflection coefficient amplitude phase‐shift dependence, alternate optimisation‐based penalty method is used to obtain the intelligent reflecting surface optimal reflection matrix. Numerical results indicate that the algorithm for the intelligent reflecting surface reflection coefficient unit modulus constraint achieves the maximum secrecy rate, and the algorithm for the intelligent reflecting surface reflection coefficient of amplitude phase‐shift dependence has the sub‐optimal performance, and the benchmark schemes such as no intelligent reflecting surface and intelligent reflecting surface random phase shift strategies have the worst and similar performance. In graph signal processing (GSP), complex datasets arise from several underlying graphs and in the presence of heterogeneity. Graph learning from heterogeneous graph signals often results in challenging high-dimensional multiple graph estimation problems, and prior information regarding which graph the data was observed is typically unknown. To address the above challenges, we develop a novel framework called GRACGE (GRAph signal Clustering and multiple Graph Estimation) to partition the graph signals into clusters and jointly learn the multiple underlying graphs for each of the clusters. GRACGE advocates a regularized EM (rEM) algorithm where a structure fusion penalty with adaptive regularization parameters is imposed on the M-step. Such a penalty can exploit the structural similarities among graphs to overcome the curse of dimensionality. Moreover, we provide a non-asymptotic bound on the estimation error of the GRACGE algorithm, which establishes its computational and statistical guarantees. Furthermore, this theoretical analysis motivates us to adaptively re-weight the regularization parameters. With the adaptive regularization scheme, the final estimates of GRACGE will geometrically converge to the true parameters within statistical precision. This study investigates the effects of the water-soluble and organic-soluble Trichosanthes extracts on the hyperglycemic condition in streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced diabetic rats. The blood glucose levels, body weights, water intake, and urine volumes of rats in different experimental groups were monitored throughout the experiment, and the results obtained indicate that the two extracts can effectively reduce blood sugar levels, increase body weights, and improve water intake and urine volumes in diabetic rats. Based on blood biochemical analyses, the two extracts play an important role in regulating the diabetes-induced lipid metabolism disorder, increasing the levels of insulin and C-peptide, and alleviating the symptoms of diabetes. The variation in the liver glycogen contents of the water-soluble fraction and ethanol fraction groups suggests that the mechanisms underlying the hypoglycemic effects of the two extracts are different. Background: Vitamin D could be a mediator in the association between tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM). A large scale multi-center study confirmed that TB patients with DM had significantly lower serum vitamin D level compared with those without DM and reported that DM was a strong independent risk factor for vitamin D deficiency. Objectives: This study was undertaken to determine amongst patients with both TB and DM living in different economically defined areas in China: i) their baseline characteristics, ii) their vitamin D status and iii) whether certain baseline characteristics were associated with vitamin D deficiency. Methods: In DM-TB patients consecutively attending seven clinics or hospitals, we measured 25 hydroxycholecalciferol at the time of registration using electrochemiluminescence in a COBASE 601 Roche analyser by chemiluminescence immunoassay. Data analysis was performed using chi square test and multivariate logistic regression. Results: There were 178 DM-TB patients that included 50 from economically well-developed areas, 103 from better-off areas and 25 from a poverty area. Median vitamin D levels in well-developed, better-off and poverty areas were 11.5ng/ml, 12.2ng/ml and 11.5ng/ml respectively. Amongst all patients, 149 (84%) had vitamin D deficiency—91 (51%) with vitamin D deficiency (10–19.9 ng/ml) and 58 (33%) with severe deficiency (< 10 ng/ml). There was a significantly higher proportion with vitamin D deficiency in the poverty area. The adjusted odds of vitamin D deficiency (25-(OH)D3 <20 ng/ml) were significantly higher in those with longer history of DM (P = 0.038) and with HbA1c≥10% (P = 0.003). Conclusion: Over 80% of TB patients with DM in China were vitamin D deficient, with risk factors being residence in a poverty area, a long duration of DM and uncontrolled DM. Background: We conducted a first baseline survey in Jilin Province of China to determine the proportion of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB), and to analyze risk factors associated with the emergence of drug-resistance. Methodology/Principal Findings: Thirty counties in Jilin Province were randomly selected as survey sites using a stratified cluster sampling method. People enrolled in the survey were new and re-treated, smear-positive pulmonary TB patients newly enrolled in local TB control and prevention institutions during the survey period. Sputum samples were collected, and the susceptibility of bacterial strains to anti-TB drugs was analyzed by proportion method. Based on the survey results, we estimated the number of drug-resistant TB patients and analyzed the risk factors associated with the emergence of drug resistance. Of 1,174 new TB patients and 597 re-treated TB patients, 8.6% and 23.2% were multi-drug resistant (MDR)-TB patients, respectively. Approximately 12% of MDR-TB patients were extensively drug-resistant. We estimate that approximately 1,290 new MDR-TB cases develop in Jilin Province every year. Of these, 810 cases would be new patients, and 480 cases would involve re-treated patients. Risk factors associated with MDR-TB include employment status, educational background, and income level. Conclusions/Significance: Jilin Province remains one of the highest-burden areas in China for drug-resistant TB. The higher number of MDR-TB among new cases suggested that the transmission of drug-resistant strains in Jilin is an urgent problem in the MDR-TB control and prevention system of Jilin Province. Nitrogen is a major limiting nutrient for the net primary production of terrestrial ecosystems, especially on sentinel alpine ecosystem. Ammonia oxidation is the first and rate-limiting step on nitrification process and is thus crucial to nitrogen cycle. To decipher climatic influence on ammonia oxidizers, their communities were characterized by qPCR and clone sequencing by targetingamoAgenes (encoding the alpha subunit of ammonia mono-oxygenase) in soils from 7 sites over an 800 m elevation transect (4400–5200 m a.s.l.), based on “space-to-time substitution” strategy, on a steppe-meadow ecosystem located on the central Tibetan Plateau (TP). ArchaealamoAabundance outnumbered bacterialamoAabundance at lower altitude (<4800 m a.s.l.), but bacterialamoAabundance was greater in surface soils at higher altitude (≥4800 m a.s.l.). ArchaealamoAabundance decreased with altitude in surface soil, while its abundance stayed relatively stable and was mostly greater than bacterialamoAabundance in subsurface soils. Conversely, bacterialamoAabundance gradually increased with altitude at all three soil depths. Statistical analysis indicated that altitude-dependent factors, in particular pH and precipitation, had a profound effect on the abundance and community of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria, but only on the community composition of ammonia-oxidizing archaea along the altitudinal gradient. These findings imply that the shifts in the relative abundance and/or community structure of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea may result from the precipitation variation along the altitudinal gradient. Thus, we speculate that altitude-related factors (mainly precipitation variation combing changed pH), would play a vital role in affecting nitrification process on this alpine grassland ecosystem located at semi-arid area on TP. The Tibetan Plateau, 'the third pole', is a region that is very sensitive to climate change. A better understanding of response of soil microorganisms to climate warming is important to predict soil organic matter preservation in future scenario. We selected a typically altitudinal gradient (4400 m-5200 m a.s.l) along south-facing slope of Nyainqentanglha Mountains on central Tibetan Plateau. Bacterial communities were investigated using terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis ( T- RFLP) combined with sequencing methods. Acidobacteria and Proteobacteria were dominant bacteria in this alpine soil. Redundancy analysis revealed that soil bacterial communities were significantly different along the large altitudinal gradient, although the dominant environmental driving factors varied at different soil depth. The mechanism of the CO2 splitting reaction with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) as a catalyst and cinnamic aldehydes as the oxygen acceptor was thoroughly investigated at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level. Owing to its nucleophilicity, NHC can initiate the reaction through two distinct channels (I and II) by nucleophilic attack. The results reveal that without the assistance by H2O, channel II is slightly more favorable than channel I, and the reaction path II-D is the optimum reaction path. However, the reaction is difficult to conduct at room temperature because of its high activation energy barrier. Although the results suggest that most of the high activation energy barriers involved in proton transfer decrease if the reaction is assisted by H2O, all highest energy barriers for all reaction channels are still above 40 kcal mol−1. Electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to valuable fuels and chemicals can not only alleviate the energy crisis but also improve the atmospheric environment. The key is to develop electrocatalysts that are extremely stable, efficient, selective, and reasonably priced. In this study, spin-polarized density function theory (DFT) calculations were used to comprehensively examine the catalytic efficacy of transition metal-hexaaminobenzene (TM-HAB) monolayers as single-atom catalysts for the electroreduction of CO2. In the modified two-dimensional TM-HAB monolayer, our findings demonstrate that the binding of individual metal atoms to HAB can be strong enough for the atoms to be evenly disseminated and immobilized. In light of the conflicting hydrogen evolution processes, TM-HAB effectively inhibits hydrogen evolution. CH4 dominates the reduction byproducts of Sc, Ti, V, Cr, and Cu. HCOOH makes up the majority of Zn's reduction products. Co's primary reduction products are CH3OH and CH4, whereas Mn and Fe's primary reduction products are HCHO, CH3OH, and CH4. Among these, the Ti-HAB reduction products have a 1.14 eV limiting potential and a 1.31 V overpotential. The other monolayers have relatively low overpotentials between 0.01 V and 0.7 V; therefore, we predict that TM-HAB monolayers will exhibit strong catalytic activity in the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2, making them promising electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction. Summary Methane production in paddy soil is substantially suppressed after even a brief exposure of soil to oxygen. We hypothesized that the strong response of methanogen activity is reflected in the transcription of functional genes rather than in the composition of the community of methanogens. Therefore, we determined the community composition and the transcriptional response of methanogens in a rice field soil by targeting the mcrA gene (encoding the α subunit of methyl-coenzyme M reductase). Transcription of mcrA genes measured by quantitative PCR decreased by an order of magnitude after brief exposure to O2. Terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism of mcrA genes and gene transcripts showed that although the community structure of methanogens did not change, the composition of transcripts dramatically responded to O2 exposure. In the beginning, transcripts of Methanocellales were the relatively most abundant, indicating resistance of these hydrogenotrophic methanogens against O2 stress. Later on, mcrA transcripts of acetoclastic methanogens became relatively more abundant coinciding with the turnover of acetate. The transcription of Methanosarcinaceae was relatively greater when acetate accumulated while Methanosaetaceae became more active when acetate concentrations decreased. In the presence of methyl fluoride, a specific inhibitor of acetoclastic methanogenesis, mcrA transcription by Methanosaetaceae was greatly suppressed while that of Methanosarcinaceae was less affected. Our study showed that in contrast to constant community structure as revealed by DNA-based fingerprinting the transcription of functional mcrA genes strongly responded to O2 stress and the presence of inhibitor CH3F. Summary Methanogens are regarded as strict anaerobes and hence sensitive to O2 exposure. It has been demonstrated that CH4 production and emission from rice field soil are substantially reduced when soil is drained or aerated even shortly. However, the response of different methanogenic populations to O2 stress remains unclear. Therefore, we determined CH4 production and structure of the methanogenic community in a Chinese rice field soil after short-term (24 h) and long-term (72 h) exposure to O2 under laboratory conditions. O2 stress strongly inhibited CH4 production, and the inhibitory effect increased with the duration of O2 exposure. O2 exposure also resulted in dramatic increase of ferric iron and sulfate concentrations. H2 partial pressures were significantly reduced, most probably due to the competitive consumption by iron and sulfate-reducing bacteria. However, substrate competition could not explain the inhibition of acetoclastic methanogenesis, since acetate accumulated after O2 exposure compared with the control. Quantitative (real-time) PCR analyses of both archaeal 16S rRNA and mcrA genes (coding for alpha subunit of the methyl coenzyme M reductase) revealed that growth of the methanogenic populations was suppressed after O2 exposure. However, terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) analyses of both 16S rDNA and 16S rRNA showed that the structure of the methanogenic archaeal community remained remarkably stable, and that acetoclastic Methanosarcinaceae were always dominant whether with or without O2 exposure. Thus, O2 stress apparently did not differentially affect the various methanogenic populations, but instead inhibited CH4 production by enabling competition, generally suppressing growth and differentially affecting existing enzyme activity. High amounts of deposited nitrogen (N) dramatically influence the stability and functions of alpine ecosystems by changing soil microbial community functions, but the mechanism is still unclear. To investigate the impacts of increased N deposition on microbial community functions, a 2-year multilevel N addition (0, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 kg N ha−1 year−1) field experiment was set up in an alpine steppe on the Tibetan Plateau. Soil microbial functional genes (GeoChip 4.6), together with soil enzyme activity, soil organic compounds and environmental variables, were used to explore the response of microbial community functions to N additions. The results showed that the N addition rate of 40 kg N ha−1 year−1 was the critical value for soil microbial functional genes in this alpine steppe. A small amount of added N (≤40 kg N ha−1 year−1) had no significant effects on the abundance of microbial functional genes, while high amounts of added N (>40 kg N ha−1 year−1) significantly increased the abundance of soil organic carbon degradation genes. Additionally, the abundance of microbial functional genes associated with NH 4 +, including ammonification, N fixation and assimilatory nitrate reduction pathways, was significantly increased under high N additions. Further, high N additions also increased soil organic phosphorus utilization, which was indicated by the increase in the abundance of phytase genes and alkaline phosphatase activity. Plant richness, soil NO 2 −/NH 4 + and WSOC/WSON were significantly correlated with the abundance of microbial functional genes, which drove the changes in microbial community functions under N additions. These findings help us to predict that increased N deposition in the future may alter soil microbial functional structure, which will lead to changes in microbially-mediated biogeochemical dynamics in alpine steppes on the Tibetan Plateau and will have extraordinary impacts on microbial C, N and P cycles. Increasing biomolecules have been found to be involved in the lung cancer development. This study will perform the function and mechanism analyses of a novel circular RNA copper chaperone for superoxide dismutase (circ-CCS) in lung cancer. Circ-CCS, microRNA-383 (miR-383) and E2F transcription factor 7 (E2F7) were quantified by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell viability was detected using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8). Clonal ability was measured by colony formation assay. Cell apoptosis was determined via flow cytometry. Cell migration and invasion were assessed by transwell assay. Detection of protein was completed using western blot. Xenograft assay was used for the functional analysis of circ-CCS in vivo. The binding between targets was proved by dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays. E2F7 protein level was also examined by Immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis in human tissues. Circ-CCS was upregulated in lung cancer and could predict poor prognosis. Downregulation of circ-CCS inhibited lung cancer cell growth and metastasis while promoted apoptosis in vitro, and suppressed tumorigenesis of lung cancer in vivo. Circ-CCS had sponge effect on miR-383 and the function of si-circ-CCS was achieved by upregulating miR-383. E2F7 was a target gene of miR-383 and its downregulation was responsible for the anti-cancerous role of miR-383 in lung cancer. Circ-CCS could elevate E2F7 expression via interacting with miR-383. Inferring network topologies from observed graph-structured data (also known as graph signals) is a crucial task in many applications of network science. Existing papers on network topology inference typically assume that the observations at all nodes are available. However, there are many situations where only partial observations can be collected due to application-specific constraints. To handle the missing data problem, we propose a framework that relies on heterogeneous incomplete data from a collection of related networks to identify multiple network topologies simultaneously. This work advocates the Gaussian graphical model (GGM) and casts the topology inference problem in terms of estimating the precision matrix that has a form of graph Laplacian. Firstly, an unbiased estimator for the covariance matrix of incomplete data is established and then algorithms based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) are developed to jointly estimate graph topologies, rather than estimate each graph topology separately. So that we can borrow information across the multiple related networks to eliminate the impact of missing data. Moreover, non-asymptotic statistical analysis is provided, which proves the consistency of the graph estimator and enables us to investigate the effect of several key factors on the graph estimation error bound. Furthermore, based on the consistent graph estimator, an adaptive algorithm that utilizes the reweighting scheme is proposed to improve the estimation accuracy of the graph-edge structure. Finally, we evaluate our method on both real and synthetic datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate the advantage of our method in comparison with benchmarking algorithms. Objective: We aimed to observe (i) changes in fasting blood glucose (FBG) in tuberculosis (TB) patients before and during anti-TB treatment, (ii) whether FBG levels were stable or unstable and (iii) baseline characteristics associated with an unstable FBG. Method: TB patients consecutively attended six clinics or hospitals. FBG measurements were made at months 0, 2 and 6. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Of 232 patients without diabetes mellitus (DM) whose initial FBG < 6.1 mmol/L, over 90% maintained FBG < 6.1 mmol/L during treatment and no patient developed DM. Of 17 patients without DM and initial FBG between 6.1 and 6.9 mmol/L, over half had FBG < 6.1 mmol/L during treatment and no patient had DM at the end of treatment. Eight DM patients with already known DM had their FBG controlled at < 7.0 mmol/L during treatment. There were 13 DM patients newly diagnosed with FBG ≥ 7.0 mmol/L, and 69% continued to have FBG ≥ 7.0 mmol/L. After adjustment for confounding, the odds for an unstable FBG were higher for HIV-positive status, already having DM, smoking and coming to hospitals rather than clinics. Conclusion: TB patients who do not have DM based on FBG measurements do not develop DM during anti-TB treatment. Recently, the physical limitation of range‐domain security guarantee for directional modulation with frequency diverse array was disclosed in Ding et al. (IEEE Access 8, 63302–63309 (2020)). Therefore, to recreate this significant secrecy realisation in both direction and range domain, the authors conceive an artificial noise aided directional modulation scheme via reconfigurable intelligent surface. Specifically, the angle of departure from the reconfigurable intelligent surface to co‐direction receivers varies with distance, which provides the freedom to distinguish users in the range domain. With locations of the active eavesdroppers, an optimisation problem is further formulated to maximise the secrecy rate, which is then solved by applying genetic algorithm and alternating optimisation. On the other hand, when the eavesdroppers are silent, we employ maximum‐ratio transmission precoding and artificial noise to guarantee information security. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that, due to the aid of reconfigurable intelligent surface, the developed directional modulation structure can robustly guarantee the information security in the range domain, whether the information of eavesdroppers is achieved. Cyanobacterial blooms in water bodies have occurred on a worldwide basis in the last few decades, and knowledge of their occurrence under natural conditions, and of the mechanisms responsible, is important for understanding their origin. However, little is known about the long-term trends in cyanobacterial abundance in the pre-industrial era, and its causes. Traditional microscope analysis of microfossil plankton is widely applied in paleoecology, yet the majority of phytoplankton (e.g., cyanobacteria) are not preserved as microfossils in sediments, although they can leave a fingerprint in the form of sedimentary ancient DNA (sedaDNA). Here, sedaDNA is used for the first time to reconstruct the history of phytoplankton communities in a crater lake in northern China over the past two millennia. Our data show that changes in phytoplankton community structure and diversity were linked to temperature and precipitation variations during ∼0–1400 Common Era (CE). However, after ∼1400 CE the cyanobacterial abundance increased to an unprecedented degree, and cyanobacteria (mainly composed of Synechococcus) became disproportionately dominant relative to other phytoplankton. This rise was concomitant with increased aeolian dust input by winds driven by an intensified Siberian High, which resulted in increased dust transport across the entire mid-latitude region of the Northern Hemisphere. This suggests that dust input can exceed natural climatic variability as the dominant control on lake ecosystems in regions subject to dust deposition. Background: In China, an indigenously developed electronic medication monitor (EMM) was used. EMM recorded each time the device was opened (no real time data), offering an indirect measure of tuberculosis treatment adherence. Previous study in China showed that the EMM uptake was satisfactory, missing adherence data were common in the information management system (25%) and shift to directly observed therapy (DOT) based on poor adherence documented by EMMs were seldom. Objectives: Among people with tuberculosis notified in 30 counties (July-December 2018) where EMM supported self-administered therapy (SAT) was suggested to all eligible (no communication impairment, ambulatory), we assessed the relative differences in unfavourable outcomes and deaths among those started on EMM at baseline (within first month of diagnosis) when compared to SAT alone. Methods: This was a cohort study using secondary data. We employed an intention to treat analysis, and used modified Poisson regression with robust variance estimates to assess the association. Results: Of 1810 eligible people, 1047 used EMM at baseline and of them, 216 (20.1%) stopped using EMM midway. Of 763 people who did not use EMM at baseline, 267 (35.0%) started using EMM later during the treatment. Among those who started using EMM at baseline, 6.3% [95% CI: 4.9, 8.0] had unfavourable outcomes compared to 6.7% [95% CI: 5.1, 8.8] among those who did not (p = 0.746). Lesser deaths were observed in people who started EMM at baseline when compared to those who did not: 2.5% [95% CI: 1.7, 3.7] versus 3.5% [95% CI: 2.4, 5.2], p = 0.191. The lack of association remained after adjusting for potential confounders (occupation, TB classification and TB category). Conclusion: Under programmatic settings, we did not find significant differences in the outcomes. Background: China piloted a digital adherence technology called electronic medication monitor (EMM) to support self-administered treatment for tuberculosis. EMM is a portable plastic box that records each time the device is opened, offering an indirect measure of treatment adherence. During the monthly patient visits to tuberculosis designated hospitals, the doctors access the data from the EMM. Objectives: Among people with tuberculosis notified in 30 counties in China (July-December 2018) where EMM supported self-administered treatment was suggested to all those eligible (no communication impairment, ambulatory care), we assessed the i) proportion eligible for using EMM ii) uptake of EMM and factors associated and iii) treatment adherence, including the proportion shifted to DOT. Methods: This was an observational study using secondary programme data. Single instance of ≥50% or continued instance of 20–49% monthly missed doses was the eligibility criteria to shift to DOT. We used log binomial regression to identify factors associated with not using EMM within first month. Results: Of 2227 with EMM eligibility data, 1810 (81%) were eligible for EMM. Of 1810 people, 1314 (73%) ever used EMM anytime during treatment, among them, 134 (10%) were eligible for shift to DOT (based on EMM data), and 29 (22%) were shifted. In addition, 70 were shifted while the EMM data was missing. Of 1047 people who started using EMM within first month, we observed 6381 person-months of follow up and there were 1526(25%) instances of missing EMM data. Children (<15 years), elderly (≥65 years), semi-skilled or unemployed people, people with tuberculosis pleurisy and previous tuberculosis treatment were less likely to use EMM within first month. Conclusion: The EMM uptake was satisfactory but shift to DOT has to be ensured based on adherence data from EMM. Background and Purpose: IL-19 skews the immune response towards a Th2 type and appears to stimulate angiogenesis. In the current study, we tested if IL-19 treatment could reduce secondary injury and improve functional recovery after contusion spinal cord injury (SCI).Experimental Approach: Firstly, mice were given a moderate-severe thoracic SCI at the T9-10 level and expression of IL-19 and its receptor was measured in the injured spinal cord. Then SCI mice were treated with mouse recombinant IL-19 and its blocking antibody to investigate the therapeutic effect of IL-19.Key Results: Protein expression of IL-19 and its receptor IL-20R1 and IL-20R2 was up-regulated in the injured spinal cord of mice. IL-19 treatment promoted the recovery of locomotor function dose-dependently and reduced loss of motor neurons and microglial and glial activation following SCI. Treatment of SCI mice with IL-19 attenuated macrophage accumulation, reduced protein levels of TNF-α and CCL2 and promoted Th2 response and M2 macrophage activation in the injured region. Treatment of SCI mice with IL-19 promoted angiogenesis through up-regulating VEGF in the injured region. Treatment of SCI mice with IL-19 up-regulated HO-1 expression and decreased oxidative stress in the injured region. The beneficial effect of IL-19 was abolished by coadministration of the blocking antibody. Additionally, IL-19 deficiency in mice delayed the recovery of locomotor function following SCI.Conclusions and Implications: IL-19 treatment reduced secondary injuries and improved locomotor functional recovery after contusion SCI, through diverse mechanisms including immune cell polarization, angiogenesis and anti-oxidative responses. As a common pollutive metal element, Tl is very biotoxic. The potential ecological risk index (RI) proposed by Håkanson is one of the commonest methods for evaluation of ecological risk of a metal in sedimentary environment of a water body. According to the calculation principle proposed by Håkanson, the toxicity coefficient of Tl was calculated, and determined as 10 in this paper. In addition, the environmental risk of Tl in the surface sediment of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (Zaozhuang Section) was evaluated by RI method, enrichment factor method, etc. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project which benefits four billion people is the largest inter-basin water transfer project in China. The Zaozhuang Section is a significant water conveyance line of this project. We found that the Tl concentrations were 0.46–0.70 μg g −1 with the mean value of 0.61 μg g −1 and were higher than the local background value. The highest contents of Tl occurred in the middle of Zaozhuang section and Tai'erzhuang District, but the enrichment degree of it was much higher in the entrance of Nansihu Lake. The grain size and Al oxides/hydroxides were main factors which controlled the distribution of Tl. Analysis of enrichment factors indicated that Tl in sediments possessed obvious source of human activities which were mainly from combustion of fossil fuels such as coal and mining of mineral resources. Large quantities of carbon are stored in alpine grassland of the Tibetan Plateau, which is extremely sensitive to climate change. However, it remains unclear whether soil organic matter (SOM) in different layers responds to climate change analogously, and whether microbial communities play vital roles in SOM turnover of topsoil. In this study we measured and collected SOM turnover by the 14C method in alpine grassland to test climatic effects on SOM turnover in soil profiles. Edaphic properties and microbial communities in the northwestern Qinghai Lake were investigated to explore microbial influence on SOM turnover. SOM turnover in surface soil (0-10 cm) was more sensitive to precipitation than that in subsurface layers (10-40 cm). Precipitation also imposed stronger effects on the composition of microbial communities in the surface layer than that in deeper soil. At the 5-10 cm depth, the SOM turnover rate was positively associated with the bacteria/fungi biomass ratio and the relative abundance of Acidobacteria, both of which are related to precipitation. Partial correlation analysis suggested that increased precipitation could accelerate the SOM turnover rate in topsoil by structuring soil microbial communities. Conversely, carbon stored in deep soil would be barely affected by climate change. Cyanobacterial blooms in freshwater systems are a global threat to human and aquatic ecosystem health, exhibiting particularly harmful effects when toxin-producing taxa are present. While climatic change and nutrient over-enrichment control the global expansion of total cyanobacterial blooms, it remains unknown to what extent this expansion reflected cyanobacterial assemblage due to the scarcity of long-term monitoring data. Here we use high-throughput sequencing of sedimentary DNA to track ∼100 years of changes in cyanobacterial community in hyper-eutrophic Lake Taihu, China's third largest freshwater lake and the key water source for ∼30 million people. A steady increase in the abundance of Microcystis (as potential toxin producers) during the past thirty years was correlated with increasing temperatures and declining wind speeds, but not with temporal trends in lakewater nutrient concentrations, highlighting recent climate effects on potentially increasing toxin-producing taxa. The socio-environmental repercussions of these findings are worrisome as continued anthropogenic climate change may counteract nutrient amelioration efforts in this critical freshwater resource. The response of soil microbes to global warming, especially their response to precipitation, remains poorly known. The Tibetan Plateau is very sensitive to climate change. In particular, the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau is an interesting area to test the response of soil microbial communities to precipitation, as there is a distinct gradient in annual precipitation from east to west. We collected soil samples along a precipitation gradient in arid and semi-arid areas of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. Phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) technology was used to analyze the microbial community structure and total microbial biomass. With declining precipitation, bacterial biomass decreased significantly, whereas fungal biomass did not show an obvious trend; this result indicates that bacteria are more sensitive to mean annual precipitation (MAP). Overall, the biomass of Gram-negative (G−) bacteria represented up to 82% of the total bacterial biomass. In the high (260–394 mm yr−1) MAP areas, bacterial biomass was mainly concentrated at the surface and decreased with increasing soil depth (0–40 cm). In contrast, in the low (36–260 mm yr−1) MAP areas, bacterial biomass was mainly concentrated in the deep soils. The mean annual precipitation was strongly correlated with soil microbial community in space, with microbial communities in the 0–10-cm soil depth most affected by precipitation. Groundwater may impact microbial communities in the 20–40-cm soil depth of this arid and semiarid region. The clustering of the microbial communities was significantly grouped according to the MAP gradient, revealing that MAP is a major driving force of microbial communities in this arid and semi-arid area. An efficient method for the preparation of pyrimido[1,2- a ]benzimidazole derivatives utilizing squaric acid dichloride has been developed at room temperature without catalyst. This method provided a rapid synthesis of pyrimido[1,2- a ]benzimidazole system. The result indicates that those expeditious reactions could be carried out only in the presence of alcohols, affording the corresponding alkyl 2-chloropyrimido[1,2- a ]benzimidazole-3-carboxylates. Furthermore, the yield of products seems to be closely relevant to the steric hindrance of the added alcohols. On the basis of experimental and theoretical analyses, a plausible mechanism has been proposed and corroborated through DFT calculations for exploring a practical way to efficiently synthesize those highly versatile substituted homologs. Background and Aims We aimed to explore the effectiveness of preventive usage of hepatoprotectors in patients with tuberculosis ( TB) receiving anti- TB treatment. Methods With stratified cluster sampling strategy, a prospective cohort with 4488 sputum smears positive pulmonary TB patients was established from 52 counties of four regions in China. During anti- TB treatment, prescriptions of hepatoprotectors were documented in detail, and liver enzymes were routinely monitored. Anti- TB drug-induced liver injury ( ATLI) was assessed based on liver enzymes following the criteria of American Thoracic Society. The incidence of ATLI between the preventive usage group and reference group was compared by propensity score adjusted Cox proportional hazard analysis. Preexisting diseases, history of liver disease, hepatitis B surface antigen status, primary/re-treatment of TB, income per year, and liver enzymes before anti- TB treatment were included in the propensity score model. Results After 6-9 months of follow-up and monitoring, 4304 patients sustained in our cohort. Two thousand seven hundred fifty-two (63.9%) patients preventively took hepatoprotectors with a median course of 183 days. Most frequently used drugs were Hu Gan Pian, silymarin, glucurone, and inosine. Two thousand one hundred forty-four (77.9%) patients took those drugs more than 6 months. Sixty-nine (2.4%) patients of preventive usage group and 37 (2.5%) of reference group experienced ATLI, respectively. Statistical significances were not found by propensity score analysis for the association between using hepatoprotectors (hazard ratio[HR] = 0.99, 95% confidence interval [ CI]: 0.65-1.52), using hepatoprotectors in the whole course ( HR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.60-1.48), using Hu Gan Pians, silymarin, glucurone, and inosine with ATLI occurrence. Background: More than 1 million tuberculosis (TB) patients are receiving directly observed treatment strategy (DOTS) therapy in China every year. As to the profile of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) due to DOTS therapy, no consensus has been reached. There is no report regarding ADRs due to DOTS therapy with a large Chinese TB population. This study aimed to determine the incidence and prognosis of ADRs due to DOTS therapy, and to evaluate their impact on anti-TB treatment in China. Methods: A prospective population-based cohort study was performed during 2007–2008. Sputum smear positive pulmonary TB patients who received DOTS therapy were included and followed up for six to nine months in 52 counties of four regions in China. The suspected ADRs were recorded and reviewed by Chinese State Food and Drug Administration. Results: A total of 4304 TB patients were included in this study. 649 patients (15.08%) showed at least one ADR and 766 cases in total were detected. The incidence (count) of ADR based on affected organ was: liver dysfunction 6.34% (273), gastrointestinal disorders 3.74% (161), arthralgia 2.51% (108), allergic reactions 2.35% (101), neurological system disorders 2.04% (88), renal impairment 0.07% (3) and others 0.05% (2). Most cases of ADRs (95%) had a good clinical outcome, while two with hepatotoxicity and one with renal impairment died. Compared with patients without ADRs, patients with ADRs were more likely to have positive smear test results at the end of the intensive phase (adjusted OR, 2.00; 95%CI, 1.44–2.78) and unsuccessful anti-TB outcomes (adjusted OR, 2.58; 95%CI, 1.43–4.68). Conclusions: The incidence of ADRs due to DOTS therapy was 15.08%. Those ADRs had a substantial impact on TB control in China. Capturing the advantages of NAS and SAN, Object-based Storage System (OBSS) is becoming an active research area. OBSS is composed of clients, metadata server, and Object-based Storage Devices (OSDs). Similar to the prefetching of file and block, object prefetching is also an effective method to reduce the object access latency in OSD. However, the existing methods focus on intra-object prefetching [1] and they limit the prefetching capability among objects to a certain extent. In this paper, we present a novel inter-object prefetching approach which considers the characteristics of the object access in OSD. This approach adopts a kind of data mining technique called sequential pattern mining to find the object access sequential patterns [2], then produces the object sequential rules according to the patterns, and finally prefetches objects according to the rules and the object access context. The whole process includes the following three modules: Object Request Service Module. It maintains a current object access context, which is a l-length recently accessed object sequence. Furthermore, it appends new object information to the historic object access stream when an object is accessed. Sequential Rules Mining Module. It is composed of the object sequences preprocessing, the sequential pattern mining and the sequential rules producing modules. The preprocessing module divides the object access stream into many subsequences. Base on the discovered object sequential patterns gained by the sequential pattern mining module, object access sequential rules table is constructed. Prefetching Engine Module. When the current requested object is not in the object cache, the prefetching engine selects a matched rule with the highest confidence from the rules table according to the context, then chooses the corresponding objects and preloads them into the object cache. Simulated experimental results show that both prediction accuracy and object hit rate can be improved comparing with the Group-based prefetching method [3] which can also be used for object prefetching.
