This paper investigates the behavior of interface charges between oil and oil immersed paper insulations in unaged and aged samples. Combined accelerated thermal and electrical aging experiments of oil immersed paper insulations are conducted to obtain aged oil and aged paper samples. The interface charges between oil and paper samples with different aging status are measured with the Pulsed Electro-acoustic (PEA) method. Zeta potentials in samples with different aging status are determined. It is shown that the amount of interface charge increases with the aging duration, and does not follow the prediction of Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars (MWS) law. This is explained in terms of the increase of the interface charge barrier due to the effect of electric double layer. It is proposed that interface charge may act as an optional characterization parameter for the assessment of oil immersed paper insulations.

The development of a system to measure simultaneously the current and space charge in a dielectric is described. The results obtained for low density polyethylene samples show that the relationship between space charge accumulation and the time-dependent current is not straightforward. In accord with previous work on space charge limited currents, the transient currents initially decreased, but after a while an increment or peak appeared. Additionally, the generation and extraction of space charge packets caused an impulse-like current peak such as previously observed. By comparing the electric field and current at the anode, it was found that the increment and the peak of the anode current are determined by injected negative carriers reaching the anode rather than the increase of electric field at the anode. It is shown that the dynamical evolution of the current can be divided into three stages similar to transient space charge limited current theory.

Prompt identification of traumatic pelvic fractures in the elderly is critical to guide clinical management; however, the accuracy of pelvic radiographs is often compromised by multiple factors. The purpose of this study is to examine the diagnostic accuracy of radiographs for the detection of pelvic fractures, with CT as the standard of reference.A retrospective review was performed of patients ≥ 65 years with traumatic pelvic fractures evaluated with both pelvic radiography and computed tomography (CT) from May 2016 to October 2019. Pelvic fractures were classified into fractures of the pubis, ilium, ischium, sacrum, and acetabulum. All pelvic radiographs were independently reviewed by two emergency radiologists. Original CT reports were utilized for the reference standard.177 patients were included, with a total of 555 fractures. The mean age was 81 years and 68% were female. The most common mechanism of injury was fall (62%), followed by motor vehicle accidents (18%). The most fractured bone was the pubis (314/555 fractures). Global pooled sensitivity for pelvic radiographs in detecting pelvic fractures compared to CT was 48%, with a specificity of 93%. Sensitivity for the detection of pelvic fractures is classified by the following types: pubis 61%, acetabulum 60%, ilium 41%, sacrum 20%, and ischium 17%. Eighteen patients (10%) required surgical fixation. Mortality was 8%.Pelvic radiographs have low sensitivity in detecting traumatic pelvic fractures. These radiographically occult fractures may be clinically significant as a cause of long-term pain and may require orthopedic consultation and possible surgical management.

Emblic medicine is a popular natural source in the world due to its outstanding healthcare and therapeutic functions. Our preliminary results indicated that the quality of emblic medicines might have an apparent regional variation. A rapid and effective geographical traceability system has not been designed yet. To trace the geographical origins so that their quality can be controlled, an integrated spectroscopic strategy including spectral pretreatment, outlier diagnosis, feature selection, data fusion, and machine learning algorithm was proposed. A featured data matrix (245 × 220) was successfully generated, and a carefully adjusted RF machine learning algorithm was utilized to develop the geographical traceability model. The results demonstrate that the proposed strategy is effective and can be generalized. Sensitivity (SEN), specificity (SPE) and accuracy (ACC) of 97.65%, 99.85% and 97.63% for the calibrated set, as well as 100.00% predictive efficiency, were obtained using this spectroscopic analysis strategy. Our study has created an integrated analysis process for multiple spectral data, which can achieve a rapid, nondestructive and green quality detection for emblic medicines originating from seventeen geographical origins., Graphical abstract Image 1, Highlights • The quality variation of emblic medicines from seventeen origins were determined. • An integrated spectroscopic strategy was provided to trace the geographical origins of emblic medicines. • This complete strategy can be generalized for the quality of other natural medicines. • Twelve filter, wrapper, and embedded models were applied for feature selection.

Root rot reduces the yield and medical quality of C. chinensis (Cc). Previous studies of Coptis root rot focused on the identification of pathogens and the rhizosphere microbial community composition. The present study aimed to identify potential pathogenic and antagonistic microorganisms associated with root rot based on a high-throughput sequencing technique to prevent this disease. Healthy and diseased Cc in the endosphere and rhizosphere from the same field were collected to investigate the differences in microbiome composition and function. The results showed that the composition and function of microbes were different. The numbers of animal pathogens, soil saprotrophs, plant saprotrophs, and wood saprotrophs in the endosphere of diseased Cc were higher than those in the healthy endosphere and were dominated by Phaeosphaeriaceae, Cladorrhinum, Fusarium, Exophiala, and Melanommataceae. Fusarium, Volutella, Cladorrhinum, Cylindrocarpon, and Exophiala were significantly enriched in the endosphere of the diseased plants. Co-occurrence network analysis showed that Bacillus was negatively correlated with Fusarium, Volutella, and Cylindrocarpon, indicating that Bacillus may be antagonistic microorganisms. To verify the sequencing results, F. solani and F. avenaceum were isolated and verified as pathogens, and 14 Bacillus strains were isolated, which displayed an apparent suppression effect against the two pathogens on PDA medium and detached roots. The strategy of high-throughput sequencing has the potential for the comprehensive identification of pathogenic and antagonistic microorganisms for plant disease. These results provide research ideas and microbial resources for future studies on mitigating or preventing root rot damage to Cc.

Agarwood is a well-known and precious traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely applied as drugs and spices for century. The large demand for this material has deeply stimulated the emergence of numerous cultivated products. However, it is difficult to distinguish wild agarwood from cultivated agarwood, and the chemical composition difference between them is not clear. In this study, an integrated method of Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and ultraperformance liquid chromatography Quadrupole-Exactive Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap/MS) was developed to explore chemical variation between wild and cultivated agarwood in combination with multivariate statistical analysis. Twenty-four wild and cultivated agarwood samples were collected from different regions. FT-NIR profiles were used to obtain the holistic metabolic characterization in combination with principal component analysis (PCA). A total of seventy-six and seventy-nine metabolites, including volatile components and 2-(2-phenethyl) chromones derivatives, were successfully identified by GC-MS and UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap/MS, respectively. Thereafter, the orthogonal-partial least square method-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and variable importance in the projection (VIP) were used to screen potential characteristic chemical components (VIP>1) in wild and cultivated agarwood, respectively. Finally, eight key chemical markers were putatively identified by two techniques to distinguish agarwood from different origins, which can be found that sesquiterpenes, aromatics, terpenoids, 2-(2-phenylethyl) chromones of the flidersia type (FTPECs) and tetrahydro-2-(2-phenylethyl) chromones (THPECs) are the most important metabolites. Summary, this research presented a comprehensive metabolomic variation between wild and cultivated agarwood on the basis of a multi-technology platform, which laid a foundation for distinguishing the two ecotypes of agarwood and was conducive to the quality control of this resource.

The raw and honey-processed P. cyrtonema recorded in ancient classics of Chinese medicine as having the effect of moisturizing the lungs and relieving coughs, and it has also been proved to have therapeutic effects on lung diseases in modern research. Polysaccharides are the main components with biological activities in raw and honey-processed P. cyrtonema, but there is no research for their lung-protective effect.This study aimed to investigate the protective effect and the possible mechanism of polysaccharides from raw and honey-processed P. cyrtonema in LPS-induced acute lung injury in mice.Polysaccharides, PCP and HPCP, were respectively separated and extracted from raw and honey-processed P. cyrtonema, and the molecular weight, monosaccharide composition and other basic chemical characteristics were analyzed by HPGCP, HPLC, FI-IR, and NMR. The model of ALI mice was established by intratracheal instillation of LPS. Moreover, the protective effects of PCP and HPCP for ALI mice were evaluated by detecting the wet-to-dry ratio and histopathology in the lungs, the content of inflammatory factors TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β in BLAF, and the content of MPO and SOD in lung tissue. In addition, the lung-protective mechanism of PCP and HPCP was explored by detecting the levels of some proteins and mRNA related to inflammation and oxidative stress pathways.PCP and HPCP with molecular weights of 8.842 × 10Polysaccharides from raw and honey-processed P. cyrtonema had a protective effect in LPS-induced lung injury in mice. This effect may be related to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of PCP and HPCP in the lungs through the NF-κB pathway and AMPK-Nrf2 pathway. And HPCP seems to perform more than PCP.

Arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMFs) are a group of soil-dwelling fungi that form symbiotic associations with plants, to mediate the secondary metabolism and production of active ingredients in aromatic and medicinal plants. Currently, there is little research on Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. inoculation with native AMFs and the concomitant effects on growth and secondary metabolites. In this study, S. miltiorrhiza was treated with eight AMFs, i.e., Glomus formosanum; Gl. tenebrosum; Septoglomus constrictum; Funneliformis geosporum; Rhizophagus manihotis; Ambispora gerdemanii; Acaulospora laevis; Ac. tuberculata, to investigate the influence of AMF inoculation on biomass and secondary production under greenhouse conditions in S. miltiorrhiza roots. The results showed that mycorrhiza formation rates were between 54.83 and 86.10%. Apart from Ac. laevis and Gl. tenebrosum treatment, the roots biomass of the other treatment groups was effectively increased, and the fresh and dry weight of the plant inoculated with Fu. geosporum were increased by 86.76 and 86.95%, respectively. Specifically, AMF treatments also impacted on phenolic acids production; inoculation with both Fu. geosporum or Ac. laevis significantly reduced total phenolic acids, whereas the other treatments effectively increased these levels, of which Gl. formosanum generated significant levels. Most AMF-plant symbiotic experiments facilitated phenolic acid accumulation in the secondary metabolites of S. miltiorrhiza (except Ac. laevis). This study showed that most native AMFs inoculation with S. miltiorrhiza promoted roots growth and increased secondary metabolites production (especially phenolic acids). Going forward, inoculation of native AMF is a promising method to improve the quality and yield of S. miltiorrhiza and should be considered during production.

Ethnopharmacological relevance Zanthoxylum armatum DC is a traditional medicinal plant. It is widely used in clinical treatment and disease prevention in China, India and other regions. Modern studies have reported the phytotoxicity, cytotoxicity and the animal toxicity of Zanthoxylum armatum DC, and the damage of genetic material has been observed in plants, but the detailed mechanism has not been explored. Besides, the toxicity of normal mammalian cells has not been evaluated. Aim of the study To evaluate the effects and underlying mechanism of genetic material damage in BRL 3A cells induced by Zanthoxylum armatum DC. Materials and methods Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Orbitrap High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry was used for identification of compounds in methanol extract of Zanthoxylum armatum DC. BRL 3A cells were incubated with different concentrations of methanol extract of Zanthoxylum armatum DC (24 h). The cytotoxicity of extract was assessed with cell viability, LDH release rate, and ROS production. The damage of genetic material was assessed with OTM value of comet cells, cell cycle and the expression levels of p-ATM, p- Chk2, Cdc25A, and CDK2. Results Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Orbitrap High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry investigation revealed the presence of compounds belonging to flavonoid, fatty acid and alkaloid groups. The viability of BRL 3A cells was reduced in a time-dose dependent manner treated by methanol extract of Zanthoxylum armatum DC. It increased LDH release rate and ROS production, activated the DNA double strand damage marker of γH2AX and produced comet cells. In addition, methanol extract of Zanthoxylum armatum DC caused ATM-mediated DNA damage, further phosphorylated Chk2, inhibited cell cycle related proteins, and arrested the G1/S cycle. Conclusions Methanol extract of Zanthoxylum armatum DC induces DNA damage and further leads G1/S cell cycle arrest by triggering oxidative stress in the BRL 3A cells. This study provides some useful evidences for its development as an antitumor drug via activation of ATM/Chk2.

This study investigated the extraction, structure and antioxidant activity of turmeric polysaccharides (TPs). A crude polysaccharide yield of 2.23 g/100 g was extracted by the hot water method. Four polysaccharide fractions (TPs-0, TPs-1, TPs-2, and TPs-3) with different molecular weights were purified by anion-exchange chromatography. Glucose, galactose and arabinose were the main polysaccharide components of TPs-0 and TPs-1, whereas TPs-2 and TPs-3 were primarily composed of rhamnose, glucose, galactose, arabinose, xylose, galacturonic acid and glucuronic acid. TPs-0 was further investigated using methylation, GC-MS and NMR, the results showed that TPs-0 comprised a main chain of α-Araf- (1 → 4) -α-Glcp- (1 → 3) -α-Arap- (1 → 3) -β-Galp- (1 → 3,6) -α-Galp- (1 → 5) -α-Araf- (1 → 3) -β-Galp- (1→R. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed that the characteristic morphology of different fractions. Furthermore, assays of antioxidant activity showed that any one of TPs had antioxidant effects against DPPH radical, ABTS radical cation, hydroxyl radical, among which TPS-2 was stronger. In general, the results demonstrated that TPs had great potential as a natural antioxidant in the functional food.

Space charge accumulation is an important issue for HVDC cable design. The space charge accumulation are determined by the charge transport property which can be monitored by the space charge and conduction current measurement. In this paper, based on PEA system and three-electrode system, the modified combined measurement system was developed to measure the space charge and current in LDPE samples simultaneously. The results show that the current gradually decreased with the accumulation of homocharges; the generation and movement of space charge packet resulted in the current peaks; the reduction of homocharge accumulation and the increase of heterocharge tends to increase the current.

Rhizoma Coptidis, which is mainly originated from the rhizomes of Coptis chinensis, C. deltoidea, C. omeiensis and C. teeta, has been proved to possess a superior anti-diabetic effect in clinic. However, the metabolic characterization and the hypoglycemic ingredients among these Coptis species remain unclear. In this study, we employed an integrated strategy to screen the bioactive ingredients based on metabolomics and ligand fishing approaches. First, the ultra high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadruple time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was used for qualitative identification of four Coptis rhizomes. After prescreening by α-glucosidase inhibition assay, an affinity ultrafiltration system was constructed to fish out hypoglycemic ingredients from the fractions with superior activity, and verified by molecular docking on a virtual platform. The distribution of major compounds suggested the four Coptis rhizomes possess similar metabolic profiles, mainly including alkaloids and phenylpropanoids. Besides, eight compounds (magnoflorine, groenlandicine, jatrorrhizine, epiberberine, columbamine, coptisine, palmatine and berberine) from the n-butanol fraction were specifically bound to α-glucosidase, and considered as hypoglycemic ingredients of Rhizoma Coptidis. Molecular docking revealed that the inhibitors bound to α-glucosidase mainly by hydrophobic interaction, hydrogen bond interaction and π-π interaction. Summary, this research leads a more systematic and comprehensive study on metabolic characterization and hypoglycemic ingredients of Rhizoma Coptidis, which can provide a theoretical basis for the further clinical application.

OBJECTIVE. For nondiagnostic CT-guided lung biopsies, we tested whether radiologicpathologic correlation could identify patients who may benefit from repeat biopsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In this retrospective study, 1525 lung biopsies were performed between July 2013 and June 2017, 243 of which were nondiagnostic. Of these 243 lung biopsies, 98 were performed to evaluate for lung malignancy; 17 were excluded because of insufficient follow-up, leaving a total of 81 cases. The Brock and Herder models were used to calculate risk; in addition, cases were independently blindly reviewed by two thoracic radiologists who assigned a score from 1 (probably benign) to 5 (probably malignant). The final diagnosis was established by pathology results or benignancy was established if the lesion resolved or remained stable for at least 2 years. RESULTS. Of the 81 nondiagnostic lung biopsies, initial pathology results included 33 cases of inflammation, 28 cases of normal lung tissue or insufficient sample, 10 cases of organizing pneumonia, and 10 cases of atypical cells. 42% (34/81) of cases were eventually determined to be malignant (negative predictive value [NPV] of 58%). Pathology results of organizing pneumonia had the lowest rate of malignancy (2/10 = 20%), and pathology results of atypical cells had the highest rate of malignancy (5/10 = 50%, p = 0.51). Within this highly selected cohort, the Brock and Herder models were not predictive of malignancy, with areas under the ROC curve (AUCs) of 0.52 and 0.52, respectively. Evaluation by thoracic radiologists yielded AUCs of 0.85 and 0.77. When radiologist-assigned scores of 1 and 2 were considered as benign, the NPV was 90% and 95%. CONCLUSION. Review of nondiagnostic lung biopsies for radiologic-pathologic concordance by thoracic radiologists can triage patients who may benefit from repeat biopsy.

Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus (known as chuanbeimu in Chinese, FCB) is a famous folk medicine which has been widely used to relieve cough and eliminate phlegm for thousands of years in China. The medicine originates from dried bulbs of six species of Fritillaria which are distributed in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. Increasing attention has been paid to FCB because of its excellent medicinal value such as being antitussive, expectorant, analgesic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidative. During the past years, a large number of research studies have been conducted to investigate the phytochemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics of FCB. A range of compounds have been isolated and identified from FCB, including alkaloids, saponins, nucleosides, organic acids, terpenoids, and sterols. Among them, alkaloids as the main active ingredient have been illustrated to exert significant therapeutic effects on many diseases such as cancer, acute lung injury, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes. Due to the excellent medical value and low toxicity, FCB has a huge market all over the world and triggers a growing enthusiasm among researchers. However, there is still a lack of systematic review. Hence, in this work, we reviewed the FCB-based articles published in Sci Finder, Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar, CNKI, and other databases in the recent years. The traditional uses, sources, phytochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity of FCB were discussed in the review, which aims to provide a reference for further development and utilization of FCB.

Percutaneous ablation is an emerging, minimally invasive therapy for patients with osseous metastases who have not responded or have contraindications to radiation therapy. Goals of therapy are pain relief, and in some cases, prevention of local tumor progression. Areas covered: The epidemiology, pathophysiology, natural history, and traditional management of metastatic bone disease are reviewed. Novel features of the Spinal Tumor Ablation with Radiofrequency (STAR) System (DFINE, San Jose, CA) that facilitate treatment of osseous metastases are described, including the bipolar electrode, extensible distal tip that can be curved up to 90°, and inclusion of thermocouples that enable real-time monitoring of the ablation zone volume. Lastly, research evaluating the safety and efficacy of using this device to treat musculoskeletal metastases is summarized. Expert commentary: Although evidence supporting the efficacy of RFA for the treatment of bone metastases is limited to case series, it is a reasonable therapy when other options have been exhausted, especially given the safety and minimal morbidity of the procedure. The STAR Tumor Ablation System has expanded the anatomic scope of bone metastases that can be safely and effectively treated with percutaneous ablation.

The study carry out comprehensive transcriptome analysis of C. deltoidea and exploration of BIAs biosynthesis and accumulation based on UHPLC-MS/MS and combined sequencing platforms. Coptis deltoidea is an important medicinal plant with a long history of medicinal use, which is rich in benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (BIAs). In this study, Ultra performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS) and combined sequencing platforms were performed for exploration of BIAs biosynthesis, accumulation and comprehensive transcriptome analysis of C. deltoidea. By metabolism profiling, the accumulation of ten BIAs was analyzed using UHPLC-MS/MS and different contents were observed in different organs. From transcriptome sequencing result, we applied single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing to C. deltoidea and generated a total of 75,438 full-length transcripts. We proposed the candidate biosynthetic pathway of tyrosine, precursor of BIAs, and identified 64 full length-transcripts encoding enzymes putatively involved in BIAs biosynthesis. RNA-Seq data indicated that the majority of genes exhibited relatively high expression level in roots. Transport of BIAs was also important for their accumulation. Here, 9 ABC transporters and 2 MATE transporters highly homologous to known alkaloid transporters related with BIAs transport in roots and rhizomes were identified. These findings based on the combined sequencing platforms provide valuable genetic information for C. deltoidea and the results of transcriptome combined with metabolome analysis can help us better understand BIAs biosynthesis and transport in this medicinal plant. The information will be critical for further characterization of C. deltoidea transcriptome and molecular-assisted breeding for this medicinal plant with scarce resources.

The power system is a vital sub-system for satellite operated successfully. With test and working environment limitations, the telemetry data from sensors and actuators is the only message to communicate with the ground about the status of satellites. In this term, an efficient and accuracy anomaly detection method for satellite power system could promote a powerful manner for identifying fault and trend that decrease safe margins. However, mostly anomaly detectors have to seriously rely on the prior expert knowledge and a nonlinear dimension reduction on telemetry data as the preliminary to reduce the computation scale and complexity. In this paper, a deep learning-based multiple sensors monitoring and abnormal discovery method for satellite power system is proposed to alleviate the limitations mentioned above. Firstly, an overview of the abnormal discovery method for satellite telemetry data is described. Then, a LSTMs-based prediction model and anomaly detection method for satellite power system are established. The data of multi sensors are monitored in one-time-step prediction model simultaneously, and are detected with an unsupervised method to alleviate the dependency of experts’ knowledge. Finally, the experiments are performed with the telemetry data from a simulated satellite power system. With the experiments, the proposed method shows great performance on the anomaly detection in a different type of faults with a high precision rate.

Coptis plants (Ranunculaceae) to have played an important role in the prevention and treatment human diseases in Chinese history. In this study, a multi-level strategy based on metabolic and molecular genetic methods was performed for the characterization of four Coptis herbs (C. chinensis, C. deltoidea, C. omeiensis and C. teeta) using high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) and restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) techniques. Protoberberine alkaloids including berberine, palmatine, coptisine, epiberberine, columbamine, jatrorrhizine, magnoflorine and groenlandicine in rhizomes were identified and determined based on the HPLC-UV method. Among them, berberine was demonstrated as the most abundant compound in these plants. RAD-seq was applied to discover single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) data. A total of 44,747,016 reads were generated and 2,443,407 SNPs were identified in regarding to four plants. Additionally, with respect to complicated metabolic and SNP data, multivariable statistical methods of principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were successively applied to interpret the structure characteristics. The metabolic variation and genetic relationship among different Coptis plants were successfully illustrated based on data visualization. Summarily, this comprehensive strategy has been proven as a reliable and effective approach to characterize Coptis plants, which can provide additional information for their quality assessment.

Rhizoma Coptidis (RC) originated from the dried rhizomes of Coptis herbal species is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine in history. In this study, a comprehensive quality assessment for RC medicines from C. chinensis, C. deltoidea, C. omeiensis and C. teeta species was performed based on quantitative and qualitative metabolic profiles obtained from high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) and Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT-MIR) combined with multivariate statistical analysis. Eight alkaloids including magnoflorine, groenlandicine, jatrorrhizine, columbamine, epiberberine, coptisine, palmatine and berberine were simultaneously identified and determined. Epiberberine, berberine, magnoflorine and groenlandicine were identified as possible index components. FT-NIR and FT-MIR profiles presented the holistic metabolic characterization of RC medicines. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were successively performed to clearly illustrate the metabolic variation and taxonomic relationship among four RC medicines. Additionally, taking berberine as an example, spectral quantification potential was investigated by referring HPLC data, using a conventional partial least squares regression (PLSR) algorithm. Data fusion strategy exhibited a better prediction for this compound than a single technique. Summary, these techniques can complement each other and provide a comprehensive and effective quality assessment for RC originated from different Coptis plants.

Percutaneous image-guided ablation is an emerging minimally invasive therapy for patients with metastatic bone disease for whom radiation therapy is ineffective or contraindicated. The purpose of this study was to examine the safety and efficacy of percutaneous ablation in achieving pain palliation and local tumor control of osseous metastases from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).A retrospective review was performed of 76 musculoskeletal metastases in 45 patients treated with percutaneous ablation. 63% (48/76) were treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA), 35% (27/76) with cryoablation, and 1.3% (1/76) with microwave ablation (MWA). In 70% (53/76) of cases, associated cementoplasty was performed. Primary outcomes measured were pre- and post-procedure pain scores 4 weeks after treatment and local tumor control at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-up.Mean age of the cohort was 63.6 ± 9.5 years. Median tumor diameter was 3.60 cm (range 1.0-10.0 cm). Mean and median pain scores before treatment were 7.5 ± 2.3 and 8.0, respectively. Post-procedure, patients reported significantly decreased pain scores at 4 weeks (mean, 3.7 ± 3.5; median, 3.0; p 0.00001). Radiographic local tumor control rates were 83% (35/42) at 3 months, 77% (23/30) at 6 months, and 68% (17/25) at 12 months after treatment. The overall complication rate was 2.6% (2/76).Percutaneous tumor ablation is a well-tolerated, minimally invasive procedure associated with improving pain palliation and achieving local tumor control of osseous metastases from NSCLC.Level 4, case series.

Women are underrepresented in HIV cure research. In this paper we discuss the rationale for including women and propose multilevel strategies to improve sex equity in HIV cure research. The inadequate inclusion of women in HIV cure research is concerning for both scientific and ethical reasons. Biological responses to HIV and HIV treatment, as well as social contexts, differ between men and women, and this may affect the efficacy of curative interventions. Strategies for improving sex equity in HIV cure research include addressing eligibility criteria, adapting recruitment strategies, engaging community members early in the research process, and promoting funder policy changes. We conclude by describing the Gender, Race, and Clinical Experience (GRACE) study, which is one example of how women can be effectively recruited into HIV-related clinical trials. While HIV cure research is currently in the early stages, as it continues to develop it is important to mobilise for adequate inclusion of women.

3-Nitro-2H-chromenes have recently been identified as a novel class of potent antitumor agents. In view of the favorable effects shown by sulfonylhydrazones and acylhydrazones, we designed and synthesized a series of sulfonylhydrazone- and acylhydrazone-substituted 8-ethoxy-3-nitro-2H-chromene derivatives, and evaluated their cell growth inhibition activities against A549, KG-1, A2780, and K562 cells. All the tested compounds exhibited more potent antiproliferative activity than BENC-511 against KG-1 cells. These compounds displayed IC50 values in the nanomolar range against A2780 cells. Compound 7d showed prominent cytotoxicity against K562 cells with an IC50 of 0.11 µM, which was comparable to that of BENC-511. Compound 7d arrested K562 cells at the G1 phase at high concentrations and induced apoptosis in K562 cells. Furthermore, 7d increased the levels of cleaved caspase-3, decreased the expression of bcl-2 and induced the cleavage of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase in K562 cells. Thus, this study provides the development of a series of novel compounds as effective antitumor agents with apoptotic death ability.

A rhodamine-based chemosensor for naked-eye detection of Cu2+ has been designed and synthesized, which exhibited excellent selectivity and high sensitivity for Cu2+ in CH3CN and CH3CN/H2O mixed solutions. When Cu2+ was added to the solution of sensor 1, a dramatic color change from colorless to bluish violet was observed, while the cations K+, Ca2+, Na+, Hg2+, Zn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Fe3+, Al3+, Pb2+, Ag+, and Cd2+ did not interfere with the recognition process for Cu2+. The pH effect investigations indicated that it can be applied to analysis of samples over a wide pH range.

In this paper, the CFAR detection algorithm is improved, and proposed an improved two parameter CFAR detection algorithm. The improved two parameter CFAR detector delivered in this paper only uses a target window and a background window, By using special methods to remove the leaked ship pixels in the background window and estimate the remaining pixels in the background window which are sea clutter to get the local window's clutter gray mean and variance. The moving step is the same as the length of the target window. Compared with two parameter CFAR detector, the structure is simplified and the detection result's false alarms is less, targets too close can also be detected, furthermore, the computing efficiency is improved. The simulation results prove the algorithm's effectiveness. And the practicability of the algorithm is verified by DSP.

The measurement of variety of non-electricity such as temperature and humidity is so important. To measure the temperature and humidity accurate with low cost is especially necessary. An open platform for multi-sensors including temperature and humidity etc. Measurement and control is proposed. Three layers distributed architecture is adopted, and the distributed intelligent nodes are designed. All nodes are connected to the embedded computer through RS-485 and the data processing is accomplished. The software is developed with WinCE and good user interface is obtained. Other sensor modules are also supported and processed in the open platform. The results of application show that the platform is of low-cost, good openness, versatility and supporting complex industrial applications.
