We performed 23Na NMR and magnetization measurements on an S = 1, quasi-2D honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet Na3Ni2BiO6. A large positive Curie-Weiss constant of 22.9 K is observed. The NMR spectra at low fields are consistent with a "zigzag" magnetic order, indicating a large easy-axis anisotropy. With field applied along the c* axis, the NMR spectra confirm the existence of a 1/3-magnetization plateau phase between 5.1 T and 7.1 T. The transition from the zigzag order to the 1/3-magnetization plateau phase is also found to be a first-order type. A monotonic decrease of the spin gap is revealed in the 1/3-magnetization plateau phase, which reaches zero at a quantum critical field Hc = 8.35 T before entering the fully polarized phase. These data suggest the existence of exchange frustration in the system along with strong ferromagnetic interactions, hosting the possibility for Kitaev physics. Besides, well below the ordered phase, the 1/T1 at high fields shows either a level off or an enhancement upon cooling below 3 K, which suggests the existence of low-energy fluctuations., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

A/B testing, or controlled experiments, is the gold standard approach to causally compare the performance of algorithms on online platforms. However, conventional Bernoulli randomization in A/B testing faces many challenges such as spillover and carryover effects. Our study focuses on another challenge, especially for A/B testing on two-sided platforms -- budget constraints. Buyers on two-sided platforms often have limited budgets, where the conventional A/B testing may be infeasible to be applied, partly because two variants of allocation algorithms may conflict and lead some buyers to exceed their budgets if they are implemented simultaneously. We develop a model to describe two-sided platforms where buyers have limited budgets. We then provide an optimal experimental design that guarantees small bias and minimum variance. Bias is lower when there is more budget and a higher supply-demand rate. We test our experimental design on both synthetic data and real-world data, which verifies the theoretical results and shows our advantage compared to Bernoulli randomization.

Recently the online advertising market has exhibited a gradual shift from second-price auctions to first-price auctions. Although there has been a line of works concerning online bidding strategies in first-price auctions, it still remains open how to handle budget constraints in the problem. In the present paper, we initiate the study for a buyer with budgets to learn online bidding strategies in repeated first-price auctions. We propose an RL-based bidding algorithm against the optimal non-anticipating strategy under stationary competition. Our algorithm obtains $\widetilde O(\sqrt T)$-regret if the bids are all revealed at the end of each round. With the restriction that the buyer only sees the winning bid after each round, our modified algorithm obtains $\widetilde O(T^{\frac{7}{12}})$-regret by techniques developed from survival analysis. We performed high-pressure transport studies on the flat-band Kagome compounds, Pd$_3$P$_2$(S$_{1-x}$Se$_x$)$_8$ ($x$ = 0, 0.25), with a diamond anvil cell. For both compounds, the resistivity exhibits an insulating behavior with pressure up to 17 GPa. With pressure above 20 GPa, a metallic behavior is observed at high temperatures in Pd$_3$P$_2$S$_8$, and superconductivity emerges at low temperatures. The onset temperature of superconducting transition $T_{\rm C}$ rises monotonically from 2 K to 4.8 K and does not saturate with pressure up to 43 GPa. For the Se-doped compound Pd$_3$P$_2$(S$_{0.75}$Se$_{0.25}$)$_8$, the $T_{\rm C}$ is about 1.5 K higher than that of the undoped one over the whole pressure range, and reaches 6.4 K at 43 GPa. The upper critical field with field applied along the $c$ axis at typical pressures is about 50$\%$ of the Pauli limit, suggesting a 3D superconductivity. The Hall coefficient in the metallic phase is low and exhibits a peaked behavior at about 30 K, which suggests either a multi-band electronic structure or an electron correlation effect in the system., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

We report combined magnetic susceptibility, dielectric constant, nuclear quadruple resonance (NQR) and zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on single crystals of multiferroics CuBr$_2$. High quality of the sample is demonstrated by the sharp magnetic and magnetic-driven ferroelectric transition at $T_N=T_C\approx$ 74~K. The zero-field $^{79}$Br and $^{81}$Br NMR are resolved below $T_N$. The spin-lattice relaxation rates reveal charge fluctuations when cooled below 60~K. Evidences of an increase of NMR linewidth, a reduction of dielectric constant, and an increase of magnetic susceptibility are also seen at low temperatures. These data suggest an emergent instability which competes with the spiral magnetic ordering and the ferroelectricity. Candidate mechanisms are discussed based on the quasi-one-dimensional (1D) nature of the magnetic system.
