BACKGROUND: Weight stigma is a fundamental cause of health inequality. Body positivity may be a counterbalance to weight stigma. Social media is replete with weight-stigmatizing content and is a driver of poor mental health outcomes; however, there remains a gap in understanding its potential to mitigate the prevalence and impact of harmful messaging and to promote positive effects on a large scale. OBJECTIVE: We selected musical artist Lizzo, whose brand emphasizes body positivity and empowerment, for an instrumental case study on the discourse on social media and specifically Instagram. We focused on 3 domains, including body positivity, physical health, and emotional well-being. These domains challenge social norms around weight and body size and have the potential to positively affect the physical and psychological health of people with diverse body sizes. METHODS: We evaluated posts by Lizzo, comments from Instagram users, and replies to comments over a 2-month period (October 11 to December 12, 2019). Two coders rated Lizzos posts and Instagram users comments for their sentiments on the 3 domains. Replies to Instagram users comments were assessed for their reactions to comments (ie, did they oppose or argue against the comment or did they support or bolster the comment). Engagement metrics, including the number of likes, were also collected. RESULTS: The final sample included 50 original posts by Lizzo, 250 comments from Instagram users, and 1099 replies to comments. A proportion of Lizzos content included body positive sentiments (34%) and emotional well-being (18%); no posts dealt explicitly with physical health. A substantial amount Instagram users comments and replies contained stigmatizing content including the use of nauseated and vomiting emojis, implications that Lizzos body was shameful and should be hidden away, accusations that she was promoting obesity, and impeachments of Lizzos health. In spite of the stigmatizing content, we also discovered content highlighting the beneficial nature of having positive representation of a Black woman living in a larger body who is thriving. Moreover, analysis of the discourse between users illustrated that stigmatizing expressions are being combated online, at least to some degree. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that Lizzo has exposed millions of social media users to messages about body positivity and provided more visibility for conversations about weight and shape. Future research should examine the extent to which body positive messages can lead to greater acceptance of individuals living in larger bodies. Instagram and other social media platforms should consider ways to reduce body-shaming content while finding ways to promote content that features diverse bodies. Shifting the landscape of social media could decrease stereotypes about weight and shape while increasing dialog about the need for greater acceptance and inclusion of people with diverse bodies.

Low self-confidence is a significant factor contributing to various academic and social difficulties among students, hindering their personal development. Previous research and observations at Padang State University indicate that many students continue to struggle with low self-confidence. This study aims to analyze the relationship between body shaming, self-compassion, and gender on student self-confidence, using a quantitative approach with a 2x2x2 factorial design. A sample of 362 students from the Faculty of Education, spread across six departments, was selected using cluster random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using three-way ANOVA. The results of the study revealed several key findings: (1) Overall, students at the Faculty of Education demonstrated high self-confidence, despite body shaming experiences; (2) In terms of self-compassion, students with higher levels of self-compassion exhibited greater self-confidence on average; (3) Gender did not significantly impact self-confidence, as there was little difference between male and female students; (4) Students who had not experienced body shaming had higher self-confidence than those who had been subjected to it; (5) There were significant differences in self-confidence based on self-compassion, with higher self-compassion correlating with higher selfconfidence, while lower self-compassion was linked to lower self-confidence; and (6) There was no interaction effect between body shaming, self-compassion, and gender in explaining student selfconfidence levels. This indicates that body shaming and self-compassion influence self-confidence similarly for both male and female students. These findings have implications for the development of counseling services in higher education, suggesting that targeted interventions can help improve student selfconfidence, particularly by addressing body shaming and fostering self-compassion. This study examines the construction of gender identity in online media coverage, focusing on the issue of body shaming directed at female athletes. The case of Indonesian weightlifter Nurul Akmal, who experienced body shaming after her participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is analysed using Alan McKee’s text analysis method, a descriptive qualitative approach, and a constructivist paradigm. News articles from eight prominent Indonesian online media outlets — CNNIndonesia.com, Kompas.com, Tempo.co, Detik.com, Republika.co.id, Liputan6.com, and Okezone.com — were selected as the primary data sources. The findings reveal that online media frequently frame negative commentary on female athletes' physical appearance as innocuous humour or mere jest. Furthermore, the portrayal of female athletes as passive or powerless reinforces their subordinate status within the patriarchal structure, limiting their ability to resist or challenge such derogatory narratives. This media construction not only perpetuates gender stereotypes but also undermines efforts to promote gender equality within the realm of sports. The study highlights the need for more critical and gender-sensitive reporting practices to counteract these harmful representations.

Background: Body shaming, a pervasive issue, has severe psychological and societal repercussions, particularly for early adolescents. This study addresses the gap in understanding body shaming in smaller urban settings such as Jember City, often overlooked in favour of larger metropolitan areas. Aim: The study aimed to investigate the psychological effects, trigger factors and potential preventive measures of body shaming among junior high school students in Jember City. Setting: The study was conducted in junior high schools in Jember City, East Java, Indonesia. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches was used. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The quantitative analysis was performed using the Spearman’s rank test. Results: The study included 320 adolescents aged between 12 and 15 years. Of these, 6.3% were 12 years old, 31.2% were 13, 31.6% were 14, and 30.9% were 15. Additionally, 56.2% of the participants were female. The majority (95%) identified as Muslim, and 72.8% had parents with bachelor’s degrees. Parental occupations ranged from private business to civil service. In terms of body mass index, 34.7% were classified as very thin, 18.1% as thin, 40.9% as normal, and 3.1% as fat or obese. Body shaming was widespread, with 73.1% criticized for their clothing, 59.9% for their speech, and 66.7% compared to others. The main sources of body shaming were family, peers, media, and personal insecurities. There was also a significant correlation between body shaming and stress (ρ = 0.404, p 0.01). Conclusion: Body shaming affects mental health, particularly among adolescents. It stems from societal norms and media perpetuation. Contribution: This study provides insights into body shaming in smaller urban settings, highlighting the need for targeted prevention efforts to mitigate its effects and promote healthier self-esteem and body image.

Body shaming can occur because it is driven by social pressure in society, including women, regarding new body shapes and thought patterns, making individuals tend to be impulsive. there are stereotypes about the ideal body shape. In fact, ideal body image cannot be separated from the cultural context, such as in the Javanese cultural perspective. It requires a process of shame resilience that contributes to healing, recovery, and growth in selfconfidence. This research aims to describe the resilience of Javanese women who are victims of body shaming. This research uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. Participants in this research were Javanese women who experienced body shaming treatment obtained from a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used include observation and interviews. The results of this research show the resilience of Javanese women to shame in three main themes, namely: adaptation forms resilience to shame, social support creates resilience to shame, and also increasing self-esteem develops resilience to the shame experienced by Javanese women as a result of body shaming treatment. Recently, it has been described as an unrepeated act in which a person expresses unsolicited, mostly negative comments about an individual’s body. The targeted person perceives these comments as negative, offensive or body shame-inducing. Empirical evidence also suggests that body weight is the most common reason that youths are teased and bullied. Indeed, weight stigma, described as bias or discriminatory behaviors, attitudes, feelings, and thinking about individuals, because of their weight, can lead to weight-based discrimination and victimization. Preliminary evidence suggests that BS and weight stigma have negative effects on psychological health both in the short and long term. In the delicate stage of adolescence development and pubertal maturation, BS experiences can be highly prevalent and it can lead to adverse outcomes such as eating disorders (ED). However, prevalence data in the Italian context are still lacking. Methods: The study aims to estimate weight-related BS perceived by different sources (i.e., peers and family members) and their associations with public and internalized weight bias, body mass index (BMI), body dissatisfaction, and ED symptoms. A sample of 919 high school students (Mage = 15.97, SD = 1.58; 57.1% boys) completed a battery of self-report questionnaires assessing these variables. Results: One in four students reported experiences of weight-related BS by peers or family members. A total of 37% reported having at least one BS experience in a lifetime. Higher scores of ED symptoms, body dissatisfaction, and weight bias were reported by adolescents who experienced BS, especially females. Among overweight participants, results showed that internalized weight bias partially mediated the relationship between BS by family members and ED symptoms and fully mediated the relationship between BS by peers and ED symptoms, after controlling for age, sex and BMI. Discussion: These findings, despite their cross-sectional nature, add an important contribution to the creation of quantitative empirical evidence on the phenomenon of BS. Its role in explaining eating disorders, both alone and with the mediation of internalized weight stigma has been first proved and needs to be confirmed by longitudinal results. This quantitative research with an experimental approach aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling using a client-centered approach to increase the self-confidence of students who are victims of body shaming at MTs 2 Medan. The study population consisted of 150 students, and the sample was taken using purposive sampling. Data was collected by performing pre-tests and post-tests before and after the group counseling sessions using the client-centered approach. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with SPSS. The results showed that after the group counseling sessions, there was an increase in self-confidence among the students: 5 students experienced an increase in self-confidence to the high category, and three other students experienced an increase to the very high category. The data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed that the sig (2-tailed) value was less than 0.05, specifically 0.011, indicating that group counseling using the client-centered technique effectively enhances the self-confidence of students who experience body shaming.

Machine learning is an approach in computer science where systems or models can learn from data and experience to improve performance or perform specific tasks. There are several popular machine learning algorithms, such as naïve bayes, decision tree, K-NN, and SVM. This study aims to compare the performance of accuracy, precision, recall, and F-1 score in sentiment analysis of body shaming topics on Social Media X (formerly known as Twitter) by applying decision tree, K-NN, and SVM methods and identifying the most effective algorithm in classifying the data. Based on the classification performance testing results, it can be concluded that the classification method using the trigram feature model provides the best performance compared to other methods. The trigram model is able to achieve high recall, particularly in recognizing positive classes, without significantly compromising accuracy

Istilah body shaming digunakan untuk mengejek atau menghina mereka yang tidak memiliki tampilan fisik menarik, standar kecantikan adalah tolak ukur masyarakat melihat seseorang terutama perempuan. Penampilan fisik merupakan satu hal penting dalam masa pertumbuhan masa kembang remaja perempuan, maka perubahan kecil mengenai fisik akan menjadi hal besar untuk mereka. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Metode pengumpulan datanya melalui wawancara. Jumlah responden dalam penelitian ini adalah dua. Dalam penelitian ini karakterisitik responden yang akan diteliti adalah remaja berusia tujuh belas tahun yang mendapatkan perlakuan body shaming, yaitu bertubuh gemuk, memiliki tubuh yang kurus, wajah yang berjerawat dan memiliki bulu tubuh yang berlebih. Analisis data yang digunakan di lapangan oleh peneliti yaitu analisis data model miles dan huberman. Hasil penelitian yang ditemukan adanya faktor-faktor penyebab body shaming yaitu budaya, media massa dan jenis kelamin. Adapun dampak yang didapatkan oleh korban adalah menurunnya rasa percaya diri, mudah marah, dan cenderung menarik diri dari lingkungan. Dari maraknya kasus body shaming, bisa kita lihat bahwa banyak orang yang menganggap hal ini bukan suatu perbuatan yang memberikan efek besar pada korban. Pelaku body shaming sendiri tidak hanya orang asing, tetapi keluarga, tetangga bahkan teman sebaya kerap melakukan hal tersebut.

People of all ages, genders, socioeconomic conditions, origins, and races are impacted by the significant issue of body shaming. Overall appearance, social images (appearance-cued stereotyping, social implications of appearance stereotyping), developmental consequences of appearance for psychological adjustment, and body -self interactions may all be affected. This research purpose was to look at the lives of students who have been victims of body shaming; how it affects the victims' lives and well - being; the sorts of care they need; their everyday experiences in terms of education and their surroundings; and how to assist them in building a new positive outlook on life. The diverse statements and experiences of the five (5) students from Sultan Kudarat State University Laboratory High School who were purposefully selected and interviewed through Google Meet were analyzed using a qualitative case study approach. The study 's participants go about their regular lives, absorbing every bit of criticism they encounter into their motivation and inspiration. Finally, the victims have not overlooked the need for life preservation and are aware of it. Many of them make every effort to realize them, even if it means putting their emotions on the line. As this research emphasizes the value of everyone’s life, it allows us to have a deeper understanding of students who are suffering from personal issues. Despite all that has occurred to them, they remain hopeful and prepared to take chances to achieve their objectives. As a result, it is recommended that the community learn more about body shaming.

Objective: Obesity is one of the most frequent concerns among teenagers, and it may lead to a variety of chronic disorders including heart disease and cancer. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on body shay and self-criticism of obese adolescents referred to nutrition clinics in Tehran in 2019. Materials and Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental method and a pre-test-post-test with a control group. Twenty-four obese volunteer adolescents were selected and assigned to an experimental group (n=12) and a control group (n=12). The experimental group received 90-minute weekly sessions for 2.5 months (10 sessions), while the control group did not receive any intervention. Before and after the training phase, all the participants completed the body image shame scale (BISS) and the Forms of Self-Criticizing/Attacking and Self-Reassuring Scale (FSCRS). Data were analyzed through multivariate analysis of variance (ANCOVA) by using SPSS 22 software. Results: The CBT group decreased significantly more in body shaming and self-criticism of obese adolescents compared with the control group (P< 0.001). Conclusion: In general, the findings revealed a substantial difference in body shaming and self-criticism among obese teenagers between the experimental groups. Advanced technological developments have brought significant changes to the systems of thinking and life of society. This creates an unhealthy perception of comparison in social media and real life, resulting in body shaming against those who do not meet those criteria, especially among UIN Ar-Raniry students. Body shaming is generally experienced by women, as they are often the object of judgment based on physical appearance. This criterion of beauty is considered knowledge acquired through experience, which forces women to meet such criteria. This is clearly contrary to the human rights principle that every individual has the same value, regardless of physical appearance. This study uses qualitative and descriptive methods. The results show that body shaming is a crime that is invisible but has a real impact on the lives of the victims, such as the emergence of introverted feelings, self-insecurity, overthinking, and high levels of stress. Therefore, body shaming is an unjustifiable act from a social, shariah, and moral point of view. Perkembangan teknologi yang maju telah membawa perubahan signifikan dalam sistem berpikir dan kehidupan masyarakat. Hal ini menciptakan persepsi perbandingan yang tidak sehat dalam media sosial dan kehidupan nyata, yang mengakibatkan perlakuan Body shaming terhadap mereka yang tidak memenuhi kriteria tersebut, terutama di kalangan mahasiswi UIN Ar-Raniry. Body shaming umumnya dialami oleh perempuan, karena mereka sering kali dijadikan objek penilaian berdasarkan penampilan fisik. Kriteria kecantikan ini dianggap sebagai pengetahuan yang diperoleh melalui pengalaman, yang memaksa perempuan untuk memenuhi kriteria tersebut. Hal ini jelas bertentangan dengan prinsip HAM bahwa setiap individu memiliki nilai yang sama, terlepas dari penampilan fisik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Body shaming adalah kejahatan yang tidak terlihat namun memiliki dampak nyata dalam kehidupan korban, seperti timbulnya perasaan introvert, ketidakamanan diri, berlebihan berpikir, dan tingkat stres yang tinggi. Oleh karena itu Body shaming adalah tindakan yang tidak dapat dibenarkan dari segi sosial, syariah, dan moral.

Given its endless benefits, breastfeeding is widely acknowledged as the optimal choice for both maternal and infant health. Nevertheless, breastfeeding mothers often encounter various challenges that may hinder their ability to fully embrace this experience. This report delves into a compelling case of Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER), a largely underexamined mental health issue among lactating mothers. D-MER is characterized by intense aversion right before milk let down, which can significantly impede a mother’s willingness to breastfeed. The primary aim of this case report is to provide a comprehensive psychological understanding of D-MER, emphasizing aspects of attachment, the transition into motherhood, and the sociocultural sexualization of the female body. We also offer an overview of the psychotherapeutic journey, highlighting key insights and progress achieved over a span of six months. Therapy adopted an integrative approach combining narrative techniques and skills training such as mindfulness to facilitate a comprehensive therapeutic experience. This case underscores the psychological dimensions of the breastfeeding experience, complementing the well-established biochemical and physiological aspects of D-MER. It also emphasizes the need for further research into the psychological facets of both successful and less successful breastfeeding experiences.

The shaming process represents the process of marginalization, de-humanization and derision against a person or a group of people for their anthropometric, psychological, social and cultural characteristics (Pacilli 2014). This contribution aims to study the male shaming process, trying to outline psychological, social and cultural characteristics around the construction of the male identity, analyzing the social representations of masculinity and the main discrimination suffered by men within their in-groups, both in development and in adulthood, between hate speech (Di Rosa 2020) and shaming processes. To this end, we asked ourselves the following research questions: What are the main reasons for discrimination for adolescent males? - Is there continuity and historical evolution of the discrimination suffered in adolescence with any discrimination and shaming processes in adulthood? - What are the main contexts where discrimination and harassment are exercised? What are the protective factors that push the subject to "proactive" responses? In order to answer the questions posed, a mix methods research design was used, with an anonymous online questionnaire, administered to 150 men aged 18 and 45 years old and a semi-structured biographical interview, submitted to 40 men selected through online questionnaires. Deep within online forums, we often stumble across body shaming. Words like "fat" and "ugly" are tossed around, hurting those they target. But can we peel back the layers of these online communities? In this study, social network analysis is used to shine a light on body shaming on Reddit, a well-known online platform. This paper presents a comprehensive social network analysis of body shaming on Reddit, one of the largest online platforms. The research delves into the intricacies of body shaming by identifying key actors, communities, and patterns of behavior and communication related to body shaming. The results show how behavior and communication differ across Reddit's various subgroups, and how user activity and the length of comments can vary. Through the application of topic modeling, the main subjects discussed in each subgroup were identified. This enables an understanding of what drives discussions about body shaming. The findings provide valuable insights into the spread and normalization of harmful behaviors and attitudes related to body shaming, which can inform the development of targeted interventions aimed at reducing this harmful behavior and promoting more positive and inclusive attitudes towards body image and weight. Body Shaming merupakan tindakan seseorang yang mencela atas suatu bentuk tubuh individu lain dimana bentuk tubuh tersebut tidak ideal dan atau tidak seperti bentuk-bentuk tubuh pada umumnya. Perbuatan penghinaan citra tubuh (body shaming) selain dilakukan secara verbal dan spontan langsung kepada korban, dapat juga dilakukan secara lisan dan tidak langsung. Seperti ketika dalam media sosial seperti Facebook, Twitter, atau Instagram. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian normatif. Hasil pembahasan yang diperoleh adalah secara yuridis terhadap tindak pidana penghinaan (body shaming) di kalangan media sosial dapat dikenakan ketentuan UU tentang ITE, apabila penghinaan atau body shaming yang disampaikan di media sosial dan yang dilontarkan berupa hinaan, ejekan, wajah, warna kulit, serta postur tubuh seseorang. Maka hal tersebut termasuk dalam kategori ketentuan pasal 27 ayat (3) juncto pasal 45 ayat (3) UU No.19 tahun 2016 tentang ITE. Adapun perlindungan hukum yang diberikan terhadap korban dalam Tindak Pidana Penghinaan (Body Shaming) melalui Media Sosial adalah melalui LPSK, dalam ketentuan pasal 28 ayat (1) UU No.31 tahun 2014 tentang Perlindungan saksi dan korban.

Movies were created not only to entertain but also to convey the messages depicted in them. There are many movies that raise social issues. An issue becoming a trend is about body shaming. This issue is still considered trivial by Indonesian people even though the impacts is huge for the victims. One of the movies that raises the issue of body shaming is the movie "Imperfect: Karier, Cinta, dan Timbangan (Carrier, Love, and Scale)" (2019) by Ernest Prakasa. This movie depicts the action of body shaming that occurs in everyday life and it indirectly has become a real part of life. This study analyzes the body shaming actions contained in the film. To collect the data, the writer observed the scenes using quantitative content analysis research method. The results show that the frequency of body shaming in the category of commenting on appearance is 7 times, fat shaming is 5 times, commenting on other people's food is 5 times, nicknaming is 4 times, comments on appearance about skin, face shape, and comments through social media is as many as 2 times for each category. Meanwhile, for the category of considering their body fat is as much as 1 time and 10 times for nonverbal body shaming actions from a total of 37 scenes indicated by body shaming actions in the film "Imperfect" with the total reliability test results of 0.91 or 91%. What can a parent or health professional say to a body shamed and bullied child? This research elicited and categorized the words that were reported as being most memorably hurtful and helpful to 341 young people (79.5% female; average age 25.03 years) who had been body shamed. The most memorably hurtful comments generally involved either vivid comparisons or derogatory nicknames. Fortunately, the supportive words of health professionals, peers, and parents can heal. They included 1) reframing comments that redirected attention toward a "silver lining" of an attacked feature (such as being "feminine" or "healthy" instead of "fat"), 2) impact-related comments that emphasize how a physical feature influences or is admired by other people (such as how one's eyes or smile "light up the room"), and 3) identity-related comments that redefine one's physical identify or self-concept (such as "striking" or "mesmerizing"). The primary objective of this study is to address the issue of low self-acceptance caused by Body Shaming. In order to promote positive aspects of human beings, such as engaging in Gratitude Journal activities, the Gratitude Journal was utilized. The study is a Pretest-Posttest Random Group Design that focuses on early adult female victims of Body Shaming. The sample consists of 20 participants, 10 in the Treatment Group and 10 in the Control Group. These participants were selected using a non-probability incidental sampling technique, and they all shared similar initial conditions, including awareness of the psychological effects of Body Shaming and the desire to overcome the problem. Regarding the Treatment Group, the intervention was a 21-day Gratitude Journal activity, which involved writing down the good things obtained in life. The measuring tools used included the Self-Acceptance Scale and the Gratitude Scale. The results showed that Gratitude Journal were effective in improving both self-acceptance (p= .004) and gratitude (p= .005). Introduction: Adolescence is marked by changes in growth and development that occur very rapidly. Adolescents will experience stages towards social and economic independence, identity building, acquisition of skills for adult life, and the ability to negotiate. Body shaming, weight shaming, or harassment based on appearance can be described as mocking or humiliating someone based on their physical appearance. The study aimed to determine the relationship between body shaming behaviour and the stress levels of the ninth graders at SMP N 4 Bojonegoro. Methods: The design of this research was a cross-sectional analysis. The population was 80 ninth graders obtained by using a purposive sampling technique. The students were experiencing body shaming. The research data were taken using the Body-Shaming questionnaire to measure body shaming behaviour and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) 42 questionnaire to measure stress levels. Results: The results showed that 9 out of 11 students (81.8%) who experienced severe body shaming behaviour had extreme stress levels, 37 out of 38 students (97.4%) students who participated in proper body shaming behaviour had moderate stress levels, 18 out of 31 students (58.1%) who experienced mild body shaming behaviour had mild stress levels. The article views a speech genre shaming understood as a person’s public censure or criticism leading to cultivating in them a feeling of shame or guilt, which contributes to their loss of reputation and respect in an online community. The author also clarifies the designation and underlying intentions which give an opportunity to delimit shaming from other Internet genres of aggressive nature (such as flame, trolling, holy war, hating, cyberbullying / sybermobbing, cyberstalking, and griefing) and to give its exact definition. The analyzed genre is modelled by the succession of sentences expressing the addresser’s intentions and motivation and is analyzed considering the implemention of its speech strategies (evaluating, positioning, discrediting and explaining), tactics as well as language and speech peculiarities. On the base of the quantitative data there are distinguished, explained and ranged the types of shaming typical for communicating in the Runet, such as body shaming including several subtypes; grammatical shaming; incorrect communicative behaviour shaming; insufficient well-being shaming; a way of living shaming including several subtypes; slut shaming; multi-child parenting shaming; coffee shaming; eco-shaming including two subtypes, etc. The research is based on the analysis of modern Russian 425 contexts selected by the continuous sampling method from different Internet genres, such as web-chats, forums, blogs, social nets and recording communicants’ interaction in this genre.

This article examines one of the social problems in society which is currently a global issue, namely body shaming behavior. Body shaming behavior is an act of commenting, criticizing or bullying someone's physical (body condition) with the aim of humiliating, because the physical condition of the individual is considered not in accordance with the applicable body image standards and deserves to be commented on. This study examines the behavior of body shaming from the perspective of the hadith. This study seeks to find a correlation between body shaming behavior described in the hadith and explores the preventive actions offered from Islamic perspective. The method used is qualitative-descriptive through library research. The results of this study are 1). Hadith narrated by Tirmidhi: 2502 in general explains how the prophet's view of body shaming behavior is. 2). The meaning of the hadith content in it is an invitation to stay away from body shaming behavior. 3). Impact on victims of body shaming behavior in a psychological perspective. 4). Preventive actions offered to prevent body shaming behavior.

Whether experienced on social media or in person, the findings of modern psychology consider the effects of body shaming--in terms of skinny shaming, fat shaming, dwarf shaming, or giant shaming--detrimental to mental health. This study explores how the slurs of body shaming on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and in actual life affect the mental health of young adults and shake their confidence in different walks of life. Both men and women report experiencing it to different degrees and levels. The study also enlists the perfectionist trends that are advertised as well as promoted by different consumerist brands and firms in the make-up, body-shaping, and body-health care industries. With qualitative and interpretive analysis, the study conducts a case study of Rawalpindi with a sample of 12 (female [06] and male [06]) residents, whose semistructured interviews are in-depth analyzed with Higgins' (1987) theory of "Self-Discrepancy". The findings of the study drawn from target interviews attest to the fact that--with a slight variation--both men and women have been victims of body shaming both on social media and in actual life. Next, the findings of the study categorically mark social media as a chief source of normalizing the in-fashion beauty standards against casual human shapes, which, at large, shape public opinion and shrink room for the casual physiques in society. Such trends, both consciously and unconsciously, bound the casual victims to meet the standards of in-fashion beauty standards (which resultantly benefits the advertising industries) and to avoid low criticism, body slurs, criticism, self-esteem, depression, and lack of confidence. Body shaming is an issue that often sees as unimportant by the society. Body shaming is believed effected on mental and psychological wellbeing of an individual. The victims of body shaming has high risks of depression, low in motivation, low self-confidence, isolation and prone to serious mental disorders like eating disorders and risk of suicidal ideation especially among teenagers. This article is aims to explore the experiences of body shaming victims among teenagers in Selangor. The study opted to qualitative approach with semi-structured in-depth interviews. A total of six informants were selecting used purposive and snowballing sampling. The verbatim of the interviews were analysed by using thematic analysis. Two themes emerged to illustrate the experiences of body shaming victims; 1.Various self-acceptance; negative selfacceptance and imperfection is perfect; and 2. Reciprocal relationships; disrespect from significant others and two-sides of relationship in social media. This study proposed to increase the awareness on the impact of body shaming among individuals. The relevant parties also should provide support holistically for helping to increase the well-being of teenagers by providing proper interventions to intervene the issues of body shaming and related issues of body image. In South Asia, the fat female body is accorded narrative prominence to construct different synonyms of beauty and power. It is frequently consigned to the edges of fictional realms in visual representations and popular cultures. The standards of beauty (i.e., slender body, seductive dress, skin colour, make-up, etc.) are colonising the brains of women by dividing them and forcing them to adhere to the beauty norms by limiting their performance to the erotic subject. The article analyses the film Fanney Khan (2018) as an imperative study to understand how the concept of "fat body with ability" is subjugated to the conventional idea of "fat = inabilities, unhygienic, unhealthy, diseased and disabled" by the hegemonic society through the protagonist and eventually dismantling the same. This article investigates how juvenile fat subjects parley through numerous discursive interactions in the film Fanney Khan (2018). It illustrates how the female lead in the film confronts, resists and ultimately debilitates the conventional notions of the fat body and beauty standards. Although fatness is represented in this film as either a source of extreme animosity and conflict or a matter of desexualised femininity and conventional clothing choice, it nonetheless serves as a counter-hegemonic ideal that destabilises fatphobia (Singh 2021). The paper deals with body shaming, which is a form of bullying behavior. This is a modern phenomenon in the 21st century, in which the communicator makes disrespectful comments about the physical appearance of the person in question or uses various forms of (cyber)bullying. Body shaming accompanied by cyber aggression is becoming more and more a part of online communication and is as dangerous and distressing for the victim as cyberbullying. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on its elimination. The present study sheds light on the persisting problems of female sexuality and its consequences, particularly in rural areas of Pakistan in Shahraz's second novel Typhoon (2003). It deals with the qualitative analysis by expanding on the discussion concerning woman's body and sexuality in Pakistani society, both within and beyond the confines of marriage. Relying on the early work of Mary Wollstonecraft this article reveals the harsh realities of discriminative and biased attitude of the patriarchal society towards the women which makes them feel burdened by their own sexuality. Men, on the other hand, take pride in their masculinity, which gives more authority and power to their voice thus, turning women into the objects of oppression. The premise of feminism and gender trouble highlights the cultural domination and its effects on women's lives (as it is depicted in Shahraz's novel through the portrayal of different female characters) in terms of body shaming. Background: Research evidence supports the critical relationship between body image shame and eating disorders. There is a dearth of research stating the impact of body image shame. The present study assessed the relationship of body image shaming with appearance anxiety and mental health well-being among victims of body shaming. Method: The sample consisted of 362 participants, including 310 females and 52 males of the age range of 18-22 years. Results: The study reveals that there is no one source of body shaming, but multiple sources, such as family, friends, and social media, are the most common. The correlation coefficient suggested a significant impact of body image shame on appearance, anxiety, and mental health well-being. The ANOVA showed that the effect of body shaming on appearance anxiety; and mental well-being was also significant. Conclusion: The study reflects on the pathogenic impact of body image shame on perception towards self appearance and overall mental health well-being. The findings offer relevant insights for research and intervention for supporting the relevance of developing compassionate abilities and attitudes to target body image and appearance-related difficulties. Background: Body shaming, a pervasive issue, has severe psychological and societal repercussions, particularly for early adolescents. This study addresses the gap in understanding body shaming in smaller urban settings such as Jember City, often overlooked in favour of larger metropolitan areas., Aim: The study aimed to investigate the psychological effects, trigger factors and potential preventive measures of body shaming among junior high school students in Jember City., Setting: The study was conducted in junior high schools in Jember City, East Java, Indonesia., Methods: An observational, cross-sectional design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches was used. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The quantitative analysis was performed using the Spearman's rank test., Results: The study included 320 adolescents aged between 12 and 15 years. Of these, 6.3% were 12 years old, 31.2% were 13, 31.6% were 14, and 30.9% were 15. Additionally, 56.2% of the participants were female. The majority (95%) identified as Muslim, and 72.8% had parents with bachelor's degrees. Parental occupations ranged from private business to civil service. In terms of body mass index, 34.7% were classified as very thin, 18.1% as thin, 40.9% as normal, and 3.1% as fat or obese. Body shaming was widespread, with 73.1% criticized for their clothing, 59.9% for their speech, and 66.7% compared to others. The main sources of body shaming were family, peers, media, and personal insecurities. There was also a significant correlation between body shaming and stress (ρ = 0.404, p < 0.01)., Conclusion: Body shaming affects mental health, particularly among adolescents. Background: Weight stigma is a fundamental cause of health inequality. Body positivity may be a counterbalance to weight stigma. Social media is replete with weight-stigmatizing content and is a driver of poor mental health outcomes; however, there remains a gap in understanding its potential to mitigate the prevalence and impact of harmful messaging and to promote positive effects on a large scale., Objective: We selected musical artist Lizzo, whose brand emphasizes body positivity and empowerment, for an instrumental case study on the discourse on social media and specifically Instagram. We focused on 3 domains, including body positivity, physical health, and emotional well-being. These domains challenge social norms around weight and body size and have the potential to positively affect the physical and psychological health of people with diverse body sizes., Methods: We evaluated posts by Lizzo, comments from Instagram users, and replies to comments over a 2-month period (October 11 to December 12, 2019). Two coders rated Lizzo's posts and Instagram users' comments for their sentiments on the 3 domains. Replies to Instagram users' comments were assessed for their reactions to comments (ie, did they oppose or argue against the comment or did they support or bolster the comment). Engagement metrics, including the number of "likes," were also collected., Results: The final sample included 50 original posts by Lizzo, 250 comments from Instagram users, and 1099 replies to comments. A proportion of Lizzo's content included body positive sentiments (34%) and emotional well-being (18%); no posts dealt explicitly with physical health. A substantial amount Instagram users' comments and replies contained stigmatizing content including the use of nauseated and vomiting emojis, implications that Lizzo's body was shameful and should be hidden away, accusations that she was promoting obesity, and impeachments of Lizzo's health. In spite of the stigmatizing content, we also discovered content highlighting the beneficial nature of having positive representation of a Black woman living in a larger body who is thriving. Moreover, analysis of the discourse between users illustrated that stigmatizing expressions are being combated online, at least to some degree., Conclusions: This study demonstrates that Lizzo has exposed millions of social media users to messages about body positivity and provided more visibility for conversations about weight and shape. Future research should examine the extent to which body positive messages can lead to greater acceptance of individuals living in larger bodies. Instagram and other social media platforms should consider ways to reduce body-shaming content while finding ways to promote content that features diverse bodies. The purpose of this research is to describe about Implementation of Guidance and Counseling Services provided by Guidance and Counseling Teachers to students for perpetrators and victims of body shaming. This type of research is qualitative research. Collecting data using the method of observation and interview methods. The instruments used for data collection are observation guidelines and interview guidelines. The place of research is at MTs Negeri 5 Sleman Yogyakarta. Sources of data in this study are Guidance and Counseling Teachers, Principals, Homeroom Teachers, and Students. The data analysis used is 1) data collection, 2) data reduction, 3) data presentation, and 4) drawing conclusions. The validity of data or trust in research results can be obtained by using source triangulation techniques. The results of this study found that Services for students’ victims and perpetrators of Body shaming are not included in the guidance and counseling program. Guidance and Counseling Teachers in the implementation of services for victims of Body shaming are mediation services, while for Body shaming perpetrators are individual counseling. The conclusion in this study is that the implementation of Guidance and Counseling Services for victims and perpetrators of body shaming at MTs N 5 Sleman Yogyakarta is that the guidance and counseling services provided are individual counseling given to perpetrators of body shaming and mediation services are used for victims of body shaming. Guidance and counseling services provided to perpetrators and victims of body shaming are still incidental.

Deep within online forums, we often stumble across body shaming. Words like “fat” and “ugly” are tossed around, hurting those they target. But can we peel back the layers of these online communities? In this study, social network analysis is used to shine a light on body shaming on Reddit, a well-known online platform. This paper presents a comprehensive social network analysis of body shaming on Reddit, one of the largest online platforms. The research delves into the intricacies of body shaming by identifying key actors, communities, and patterns of behavior and communication related to body shaming. The results show how behavior and communication differ across Reddit’s various subgroups, and how user activity and the length of comments can vary. Through the application of topic modeling, the main subjects discussed in each subgroup were identified. This enables an understanding of what drives discussions about body shaming. The findings provide valuable insights into the spread and normalization of harmful behaviors and attitudes related to body shaming, which can inform the development of targeted interventions aimed at reducing this harmful behavior and promoting more positive and inclusive attitudes towards body image and weight.

In this study, we explored the experiences of body shaming as a form of emotional abuse and the effects of these experiences. The reported findings represent a secondary analysis conducted of data gleaned from a study exploring the long-term effects of emotional abuse of 8 female National Team athletes in aesthetic sports. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the athletes and analysed from a constructivist lens. The athletes indicated that they experienced negative verbal comments about their bodies, body monitoring, forced restrictions of food and water, public criticism of the body, and punishment when body-related standards were not met. Athletes discussed the effects of these experiences, which included normalisation, social comparison, extreme weight control methods, negative health outcomes, performance decrements, and decreased enjoyment. These findings are interpreted to suggest that the coaches' actions to monitor and control the athletes' weight constitute body shaming practices and that body-related shaming should be considered a form of emotional abuse. The purpose of the study was to describe the psychological well-being profile of adolescent victims of body shaming. The research method is descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach. The instrument uses Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale and body shaming questionnaire. The distribution of the questionnaire was carried out with the help of the Google Form application with a total of 30 respondents. 40% of respondents victims of body shaming indicate good enough psychological well-being, 26.67% of respondents indicate a good category, 26.67% of respondents indicate a very good category, and 6.67% of respondents indicate a poor category. Adolescent victims of body shaming based on the percentage of the total score on each dimension of psychological well-being the largest is purpose in life (18.62%), followed by the autonomy dimension (17.80%), personal growth (17.72%), positive relations with others (16.08%), environmental mastery (16.08%), and the smallest percentage was obtained by self-acceptance dimension (13.70%). There is no significant difference in psychological well-being of adolescent victims of body shaming based on gender and age.

The purpose of this study is to assess the increase both in the use of the Internet and social media and in Google searches regarding eating disorders (ED) in Italy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our aim is also to verify the possible impact of such an increase on ED, since patients treated for ED by the National Health Service (NHS) have increased in the first 6 months of 2020 as well.

This paper examines the phenomenon of body shaming which becomes content in comedy on television screens even though in the hadith it is clear that there is a prohibition againts body shaming. This paper is a library research using qualitative methods and the theory used is the science of ma'anil hadis namely the science that discusses how to properly understand a text of hadith by considering various aspects in it. The results obtained from this study are: first, body shaming is the act of commenting on a person's physical appearance or appearance and first appeared around the 1900s in the United States. Second, there are two traditions which prohibit body shaming, namely the hadith about Sahabats who laughed at Ibn Mas'ud's small calf and Aisyah's hadith which calls Shofiyyah a short woman. Third, there are four conditions for allowing comedy as conveyed by Imam Nawawi, namely not to overdo it, not to hurt other people's feeling, not to trigger hatred and not to lower the prestige of others. Based on the two hadith above and the comedy requirement of Imam Nawawi, comedy whose content contains body shaming is not allowed, whereas comedy in general without any elements of body shaming ot other prohibited elements is still allowed.

Questions of corporeality and body shaming are currently part of the concept of the body expansion and manifestation in the social space and power relations. Equally intrusively, they are becoming part of media discourses in the communication of beauty, body standards, self-acceptance, and self-evaluation. This study offers a glimpse of the contemporary podcast scene, which provides an ideal platform for presenting the psychologically sensitive topic of intimate issues of corporeality. Using the example of one English-Italian (The Meat) and two Czech podcasts (The Lard, The Edge), the author applies several theses of Michel Foucault, especially his notion of discipline as a mechanism of power. The space of the podcast is understood as a liminal space, a transitional bridging medium without images and precise contours, which allows for experiments with sound, greater intimacy such as intimacy of the message, and unconventional narrative practices. Grounded in the theory of Dario Llinares, the author explores the selfreflexive potential of the new medium of podcasting, with references to audio-narratological practices, demonstrating the possibilities of the podcast as a progressive phenomenon of auditory production. Body narratives by women writers hold an important place in contemporary cultural studies. This paper seeks to analyse Kawakami's Breasts and Eggs within the ambit of culture, gender and narration. Kawakami as a Japanese writer narrates the intimate organs of the female body in order to interpret woman's mind and soul. Writing serves as an act of ventilation for woman's thoughts. The novel explores contemporary womanhood in Japan by bringing into focus three different protagonists namely Natsuko Natsume, Makiko and Midoriko. Body shaming and stigmatization are the reasons for woman's trauma. Social and cultural constructs create an illusion that a woman should be fair with an appealing body without any blemishes in order to attract men. Thus the novel raises questions about woman being a mere reproductive machine. In Cultural Studies body is examined as a site of contestation. It is culture that constructs bodily identity and behavioral code. Culture and society oppress women and alienate them. This study unearths the condition of East Asian women who suffer due to poverty, misogyny, cultural and social constraints as portrayed in Kawakami's Breasts and Eggs and how a woman's body resists and conforms to this construction. The author’s intention is to describe the possibility (as well as the alleged need) of reinterpretation of the body image on Instagram and to explain the anti-body shaming phenomenon by analyzing the content of the selected hashtagosphere and the selected Instagram profile (The Birds Papaya). The observation allowed us to formulate the research question: How to use the anti-body shaming phenomenon to reinterprete the body image on Instagram? The research revealed that by offering a variety of content and authentic messages about personal life, educating and raising awareness, anti-body shaming has a chance to reinterpret the image of the body in the digital space. The aim of the article is also to initiate a discussion on this topic.
