Introduction: The evaluation of psychological sequelae in burn survivors raises the question of whether a burn injury can trigger psychopathological symptoms and whether the identification of these symptoms can improve prognosis. Objectives: This study aims to systematically review the literature on publications investigating Depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), extracting information on the instruments utilized to assess these symptoms in burn victims. Method: It is a systematic literature review. Results: Twelve articles indexed in the PUBMED/MEDLINE database were analyzed. The majority of the studies focused on adults. The instruments that appeared most frequently for depression were the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), and for PTSD, the versions of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL). Discussion: The reviewed studies revealed that, in general, scales have been the most effective tools for assessing psychological sequelae of burns. All studies utilized scales to assess symptoms of depression and PTSD, which is understandable due to their ease of application and straightforward analysis and interpretation. Conclusion: This study provides insights for healthcare professionals working with burn victims on which instruments can complement their work, aiming to provide the best treatment for these individuals. It also contributes to future research by validating some of these instruments for the Brazilian population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
