The physical vulnerability of buildings in the Guaranda canton in Ecuador affected by the earthquake of 7,8 on the magnitude scale of April 16, 2016, was evaluated. Risks were analyzed based on the vulnerability of 1170 buildings through surveys considering geometric, construction, structural, foundation, environment, and soils. The total vulnerability was obtained by weighting the vulnerabilities of the components according to the relative weighting factors categorized as low, medium and high vulnerability. A regression model was developed that explained the contribution to the total vulnerability of the independent variables studied. The results showed the seismic accelerations in the area and will contribute to compliance with the territorial planning plan that leads to the execution of construction standards.

Construction projects have a high level of uncertainty because of several risk factors. Risks may affect projects in many ways resulting in time delays or cost overruns. Thus, the evaluation of uncertainty is required to get a reliable schedule. This research proposes a method for project scheduling considering risks. Expert judgment is used to identify and analyze risks. Potential risks are identified through Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Risks impact is evaluated through fuzzy logic and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). The simulation considered the relationship between risks, and risks and activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study analyses the influence of internal controls on risk reduction and compliance of accounting information. Qualitative research combined with a quantitative analysis of contents was used applied to a case study. Data were collected through interviews with managers and employees of a public transport institution. The relevance of the study lies in the need to mitigate risks that affect the compliance of accounting information within organizations, given the need for quick and secure information for decision making. The results show in a practical way the compliance of the information through internal controls established at the level of the operational processes of the organization, even if some controls are developed in an informal way. In addition, the results identify technology as the most relevant risk to the organization and legislation as one of the risks inherent to compliance. In addition, the need to integrate strategic and operational risk management to improve information compliance has been identified. The case studied can be transferred to other contexts where it can become a contributory reference for the improvement of internal controls and compliance of accounting information.

Introduction: The frequent occurrence of adverse events during hospital admission demands proactive means of risk management, including checking trackers/triggers. Objective: To verify the factors associated with triggers and adverse events in pediatric hospitalization. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional research based on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) methodology, through the application of the Pediatric Trigger Tool (PTT) to a sample (n= 194) from medical records of pediatric patients from a hospital in the Center-West of Brazil. Descriptive, inferential statistical analysis and Poisson regression were performed. Results: More than half (n=107; 55.15%) of patients had at least one trigger upon admission. 204 triggers were identified, with the highest occurrence of a drop in hemoglobin/hematocrit (9.80%), a drop in oxygen saturation (9.80%) and an increase in kidney function markers (9.20%). Of the total triggers, 64 (31.37%) adverse events were confirmed, which were mostly classified as temporary damage requiring patient support (65.62%). The length of stay (p-value=0.004) and the nature of the hospitalization (p-value<0.001) were variables associated with the occurrence of triggers. Character of hospitalization and admissions from other institutions were predictors of the occurrence of triggers and adverse events. Discussion: The study found 31.37% of triggers resulting in harm to the patient, early detection is essential in pediatric patient safety, prolonged hospitalizations are linked to infections and adverse events, patient transfers require rigorous and effective safety measures. Conclusions: Prolonged hospitalizations and children admitted via transfer deserve attention to triggers and/or adverse events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Introduction. Currently, the call light connects patients with the expectation of immediate assistance when they perceive a need, whether it is for routine assistance or a sudden change in their condition. The response time to the call bell impacts the quality of care, patient satisfaction, and workflow. The objective of this study was to describe the average response time to the call bell in the Coronary Unit. Methodology. A cross-sectional study of response time to the call bell stratified by shift, over 3 days, with a minimum of 7 days between each day. Sociodemographic data of patients, reasons for the call bell, and patient satisfaction were collected anonymously and digitally. Results. 200 call bells were analyzed, with an average response time of 5'42". The average age was 56 years, with 51% being female. The main reasons for calling were mobilization (24.9%) and hygiene/elimination (19.2%). Most patients were satisfied with the response time to the call bell (81% always or almost always). There was no association found between length of stay and the number of call bells. Discussion. Despite the response time being longer than the "golden minutes," patients show a high degree of satisfaction. The variability of response times in different shifts and the main reasons for calling by shift show a huge challenge in nursing management to anticipate and prioritize the needs that the patient expresses through the call bell.

CLIMATE change , *DISASTERS - Abstract
Introduction: The advent of climate change has raised new challenges for cities and made it necessary to adopt strategic policies for mitigating its impact and allowing them to adapt more effectively to extreme events. Objectives: To establish the concept of urban vulnerability and examine the measures adopted by towns and cities for the reduction of hydro-meteorological risks and their adaptation to climate change. Methodology: A systematic review of the literature was carried out which can be found in the Science Direct e Scielo database for the period 2011-2021 and this makes it possible to trace the evolutionary path of the concept of "urban vulnerability". Uniqueness/Significance: Urban vulnerability has become a key factor in the current assessment of climate change and studies in this area must be strengthened. As well as this, there is a need to determine the links between attempts to adapt to climate change and the measures available to find solutions for disaster risk reduction (DRR). Results: An evolutionary trend for the term "urban vulnerability" was noted, and this has been applied in several articles as a key variable in establishing an equation for disaster risk reduction. In 2020 there was evidence of progress that had been made in studies related to urban vulnerability regarding adaptations to climate change, new ideas about risk assessment and methods that could be employed at the local level (for towns and cities). Social contributions on the part of the management: At present, when faced with climate change, the DRR has become an emergency service which is aimed at protecting human lives and material goods. This is because, while expanding, many of our towns and cities have incorporated areas that are vulnerable to extreme events; this has led to an understanding of how essential urban planning is to mitigate the possible risks of hydro-meteorological disasters. DISASTERS - Abstract
The on-line provision of information on the risk of flooding by the government is one of the key steps in achieving resilience. However, its existence is not enough for the development of risk reduction strategies only if their quality does not meet the needs of people who need them, especially the vulnerable. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate the quality of information on the risk of flooding made available on-line by the municipality of Curitiba, which presents problems of susceptibility and vulnerability to the risk of flooding. For this, six criteria of information quality were used: accessibility, authenticity, integrity, primacy, readability and timeliness. In general, it is perceived that Curitiba provides a high amount of information, but it does not fully meet all the quality criteria analyzed. With this, it is still necessary to invest not only in the quantity, but also in the quality of information made available on-line, in order to make the city and society increasingly resilient.
