Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of agility ladder training combined with plyometric or multidirection speed drills, on performance in young female volleyball players. Methods: Seventy-six young female volleyball players were randomly distributed into 3 maturity-matched groups: (1) the agility ladder + plyometric drills group, (2) the agility ladder + multidirection speed drills group, and (3) the control group. Both experimental groups followed a 6-week training program, twice weekly, in addition to the regular volleyball training sessions, while the control group participated only in the regular volleyball training sessions. Assessments pretraining and posttraining included countermovement jump, 20-m sprint, and agility T test. Results: Both experimental groups improved T-test performance (P <.005) but only agility ladder + multidirection speed drills group outperformed the control group (P <.05). Conclusions: Agility ladder training programs combined with either plyometric or speed drills can improve change of direction performance in young female volleyball players but only the combination of agility ladder with multidirection speed drills is more effective than volleyball training per se. The small effectiveness of these protocols may be attributed to the short training period, or to the fact that training elements were combined in a single session. Background: This study examines gender differences in parental attitudes toward risky play for 5- to 11-year-old boys and girls in Britain. Methods: Analyses use data from the cross-sectional, nationally representative British Child Play Survey. Survey respondents were caregivers of primary-school-aged children living in Britain. Parent self-reported their risk tolerance in play via the Tolerance for Risk in Play Scale (TRiPS) and the Risk Engagement and Protection Survey (REPS). The REPS includes subscales that assess caregiver attitudes around "Protection from Injury" (PFI) and "Engagement with Risk" (EWR) in relation to children's play. Multiple linear regression compared caregiver gender differences in TRiPS, REPS-PFI, and REPS-EWR at the item level, and overall. Associations between child gender and these scales were also examined. Results: Among 1919 caregivers, no significant gender differences emerged in mean TRiPS (P =.72), REPS-EWR (P =.58), and REPS-PFI (P =.34) scores. Activity-specific differences were evident in caregivers' tolerance for individual risky play activities (15/31 activities). Parents of boys exhibited higher risk tolerance (B = −4.48, P <.01) and willingness for their child to engage in risky play (B = −0.63, P <.01) than parents of girls. Conclusions: While there was no difference between male and female caregivers overall attitudes, gender differences were prominent for specific play activities and attitudes, with male caregivers demonstrating higher tolerance for the riskiest activities. Parents of boys expressed more permissive attitudes toward engagement in risky play. Further work is needed to identify why there is gender-related variation in these attitudes and should be considered in interventions that support parents in enabling adventurous play opportunities for children. In this integrative review we analyze research from multiple fields of study in regards to gender equality, gender equity, and sport participation over the past twenty years (2000–2020). Key findings highlight a) women and girls' socialization into sport and the performance of femininity and heteronormativity, b) the psychological benefits, negative effects, and participant retention, c) a lack of transformative critique of sport structures and barriers to access, and d) critique of sport policy that enhances equity and equality. Embedded throughout the presentation of these four interrelated areas of interest, we offer a critique about the state of research so that others might draw insight for future research directions. We conclude by outlining potential intersectional and transformational frameworks that connect research to social and political action. Armed conflict has tragically become commonplace in the lives of many children. Children do not only witness conflict violence and are subjected to it, but are also sometimes forced to perpetrate violence themselves. Recently, scholars from different fields have examined these experiences. However, few scholars have considered the experiences of girls or have compared these experiences to those of boys. This is surprising given the increased focus of the international community on the protection of girls. This exploratory study is an attempt to overcome this by examining the experiences of boys and girls during conflict and whether these gendered experiences have influenced social relationships in the aftermath of war. Empirically, we rely on 315 structured interviews with Congolese boys and girls. Some of these children were actively involved in armed groups in the Eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our descriptive analysis shows remarkable differences between boys and girls. This work has important consequences for the study of the effect of conflict on children, the role of girls during and after conflict, and the international policy community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Outdoor environmental education (OEE) programs can provide a valuable entry point for youth of color and girls who may have felt excluded and/or marginalized from traditional science learning experiences. This study investigated: (1) Can OEE programs contribute to the development of positive dispositions toward science and the environment?, and (2) Are there differences in effects by racial/ethnic and gender identity, or interactions thereof? Youth (n = 457; grades 4-6, approximate ages 9-12) reported their dispositions toward science and the environment along 5 scales before and after participating in OEE programs. Results found growth across all subscales for youth overall. Girls showed stronger effects than boys, and youth of color showed stronger effects than White youth. Girls of color showed particularly strong growth in Comfort in Nature. Health care disruptions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have caused persistent decreases in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination uptake in Germany. The objective of this study was to estimate the cumulative deficit in first doses of the HPV vaccine administered to girls in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic and the projected time to recover from this deficit at different catch-up vaccination uptake levels, focusing on girls 9–14 years of age. This study used a published HPV vaccination modeling tool. Retrospective vaccination data from 2019 were used to calculate the baseline vaccination rate, while data from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2023 were used to estimate the size and duration of the HPV vaccination deficit accrued since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. We modeled scenarios in which the rate of monthly vaccinations increased from the 2023 average to 5%, 10%, or 15% above the baseline 2019 level. The average monthly number of first doses of HPV vaccine administered to girls 9–14 years of age was 7.4% below the 2019 baseline level in 2020, 21.2% below baseline in 2021, 21.0% below baseline in 2022, and 19.5% below baseline in 2023. At a catch-up vaccination uptake of 5–15% above the 2019 baseline, there would be an estimated accumulated deficit of 267,052–285,798 first doses by 31 December 2024 that would clear between October 2029–April 2040. A catch-up vaccination uptake of 12.3% (11.9–12.7%) every month above baseline would be needed to clear the accumulated deficit by the end of 2030. Conclusions: Significant HPV vaccination deficits have accrued in Germany since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sustained efforts to vaccinate the affected cohorts are now needed to mitigate the long-term impacts of the vaccination deficit. Context/Background: Undernutrition is conventionally assessed by prevalence of stunting, underweight and wasting. These methods even though widely used, do not give single measure of assessment of undernutrition. CIAF (Composite measure of anthropometer failure) gives single, comprehensive figure, as it identifies all the children experiencing anthropometric failure. Stunting Index, Underweight Index and Wasting index further identifies severity of individual parameter in relation to total undernutrition. Aims/Objectives: To estimate prevalence of undernutrition among 1–6-year children by conventional methods like stunting, underweight and wasting along with other methods like CIAF and anthropometric indices like Stunting Index (SI), Underweight Index (UI) and Wasting Index (WI). Methodology: A community based cross-sectional study was undertaken among 206 children belonging to 5 anganwadi centres in rural field practice area of department of community Medicine, GIMS Kalaburagi Karnataka. Results: Overall prevalence of stunting was 51.9%, underweight was 35% and wasting was 20%. CIAF (Composite Index of Anthropometric failure) was 65.5%. Stunting Index, Underweight Index and Wasting Index was 0.79, 0.53 and 0.30 respectively. Stunting was widely prevalent among boys and girls suffered more from wasting and underweight. Formal social control of girls has historically focused on disciplining their sexual behavior, and studies show this is still present. This article analyses how authorities describe and give meaning to young people's sexual behavior when assessing their need of compulsory care. The results show that in the few cases when boys' sexual behavior is highlighted, it concerns sexual delinquency. The assessments of girls' sexual behavior largely regards situations where they are exposed to others' sexual transgressions, risking to victim-blame girls. Background: Achieving equitable healthcare access for persons with disabilities is vital, as they often face various barriers that impact their health and well-being. Recognizing the importance of gender equity, this study aims to explore the specific barriers faced by women and girls with disabilities in accessing quality healthcare services in Lebanon. Methods: A mixed-method sequential explanatory approach was employed. Initially, a retrospective descriptive study analyzed data from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)-supported physical rehabilitation programme (PRP) database. Subsequently, in-depth interviews were conducted to delve into factors influencing gender-disproportionate service users and to uncover barriers to accessing healthcare. Levesque et al.'s 'Conceptual framework on healthcare access' was used to organize and map the results. Results: The quantitative analysis of service utilization at ICRC PRP centers from 2015 to 2022 revealed significant gender disparities, with males comprising 66.6% of service users compared to 33.4% females. This trend was consistent across age categories, nationalities, and clinical conditions. Healthcare access for women and girls with disabilities was found to be inadequate across all five dimensions of the Levesque framework: adequacy, accessibility, affordability, appropriateness, and availability, as well as their corresponding abilities. While certain challenges such as transportation, financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and limited information on available services were common to both genders, gender-specific barriers primarily included societal norms, safety concerns during unaccompanied visits to healthcare facilities, limited access to societal information, economic disparities, preferences for female healthcare providers, and the need for privacy during consultations. Conclusion: This study underscores key barriers hindering healthcare access for women and girls with disabilities in Lebanon, necessitating tailored interventions. Gender-specific challenges, including societal norms and safety concerns, require targeted solutions for improved access and outcomes. This study serves as a call to action for stakeholders at various levels to collaborate and implement concrete measures to bridge the gap in healthcare access and ensure that no one is left behind. Objective: Idiopathic central precocious puberty (CPP) precipitates epiphyseal fusion of growth plates in long bones, leading to reduced adult stature. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRHa) are the treatment of choice for idiopathic CPP, but their benefit on height gain is unclear. We aimed to elucidate the effects of GnRHa treatment on adult height in girls with idiopathic CPP. Design: This prospective observational descriptive study analyzed data of girls with idiopathic CPP diagnosed at 55 centers in Spain between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 2012 included in the Spanish Society for Pediatric Endocrinology's national registry. Methods: We included girls with idiopathic CPP (thelarche < 8 years, positive LHRH stimulation test, bone age > 1 year older than chronological age, and normal brain imaging) treated with triptorelin (3.75 mg monthly, adjusted according to LHRH test results and clinical findings). We assessed weight, height, BMI, and secondary sexual characteristics every 6 months and bone age every 12 months until adult height (AH) was attained. The primary outcome was the difference between AH and target height (TH). Results: A total of 465 girls (18.90% adopted) were included; we analyzed data recorded at treatment end in 358 girls and at AH in 216. Mean difference between AH and TH was -1.5 (95%CI: -2.56− -0.45) cm and between AH and PAH 2,57 (95%CI:-3.56− -1.58) cm. The tooth growth phase starts from the age of 6 years with the first molar growth, this is a reference to assess the need for space and the possibility of malocclusion in adulthood. The dimension of the tooth arch is important in orthodontic treatment in children, especially in the mixed teeth phase because it will affect the treatment plan. The dimensions of the tooth arch are affected by various factors such as tooth eruption, genetics, growth patterns, environment and ethnicity. This study is a Literature Review using secondary databases from Google Scholar, Science Direct and Pubmed with the keywords "Dental Arch Dimension AND mixed dentition", "Gender AND Mixed Dentition" and "Children AND Dental Arch Dimension" which have been carried out previously domestically and abroad. Based on the results of the screening, 15 articles were obtained that met the criteria. In the study, 10 non-specific articles were found to discuss the dimensions of tooth arch in boys and girls in the mixed tooth phase. The five selected articles showed significant differences between sex, age, and race that affected the length and dimensions of the tooth arch in this phase. However, some studies have also shown that the differences are not significant in certain age ranges and races. In conclusion, The mixed tooth phase is an important period in the growth of a child's dental arch, where differences in the size of the tooth arch can be seen between different racial or ethnic groups. The article highlights the research related to the accessibility of higher education for different population groups. Based on Ivan Franko University of Lviv, the number and ratio of rural to urban girls who entered the bachelor's program over the past four years, their choice of specialty, factors that influenced such a choice, the geography of entrants, etc., have been analysed. It has been established that a wide range of specialties and a state educational policy of Ukraine in general provide girls from rural areas with access to higher education. However, girls from the countryside, due to low financial capabilities of their families, are more focused on specialties where there is an opportunity for free education. Compared to urban girls, rural girls have access to a narrower list of specialties because they often receive secondary education of lower quality. The Qiqiao Festival in Xihe County, Gansu Province, China, represents young Chinese girls' coming of age. It presents a microcosm of traditional Chinese female growth and has existed for centuries. Since weaving cloth is considered the basis of survival in the traditional Chinese social structure, the collective belief in Qiaoniangniang reflects the strong desire of young girls to acquire female labour skills at an early date. Throughout history, Qiqiao has been spread through oral tradition and written records. However, the visual records are incredibly scarce. Therefore, the author focused on the begging ceremony in the Xihe River and collected the earliest photos. It is hoped that through analysing these ancient photos, people can get a visual appearance of this thousand-year-old Qiqiao Festival and attempt to supplement and confirm the written information about the Qiqiao Festival. Social role theory (Eagly, 1987) posits that gender differences in career interests are consistent with normative social role expectations, with men assuming more agentic roles and women assuming more communal roles. To account for historical shifts in occupations and social roles, this mixed-methods study re-examines gender differences in career interests and motivations with a sample of 501 eighth graders (52% girls; 40% White) from the U.S. Findings indicated that boys and girls had distinct career interests and motivations. Despite preferring careers that were generally dominated by their own gender, students perceived their chosen career as being more gender balanced than U.S. labor force statistics indicate. This misperception might be the result of a preference for less stereotypical occupations, and may reflect a unique characteristic of the next-generation workforce. In addition, boys were more likely than girls to indicate that salary factored into their career choice; whereas girls were more likely than boys to indicate that a desire for helping others or working with children motivated their career choice, consistent with social role theory. Some motivational factors that are typically linked with young adult career preferences were not strong factors in younger adolescents' career interests, perhaps due to the developmental status of participants or a generational shift in values. A generational shift in values may account for the presence of a relatively understudied motivational factor, occupation creativity, which was important for both boys and girls. Addressing gender differences in the motivations and goals that affect career interests may both alleviate workforce shortages and achieve a less gender segregated work environment. The present study aimed to identify parameters that best discriminate between high-level and scholar-level players for the Brazilian 13–14-year-old girl's handball and propose a mathematical model to identify sports talent for handball. The sample was made up of all available handball players comprising these two groups: 100 girls who participated in the high-level handball championship in Brazil and 53 girls (age 13–14 years) as finalists of the school-level games in one region of Brazil. We assess the anthropometric profile, maturity offset, physical fitness, and technical skills for handball. To propose the equation, the Discriminant Function Analysis method was used. The discriminant function was significant (p ≤.05), had a good canonical correlation (0.590), and still had an average Wilk Lambda (0.652). The variables considered in the talent identification model included: 1. flexibility, 2. abdominal strength, 3. lower limbs muscle power, 4. agility, 5. defensive movement and 6. slalom with ball. The values from the equation for identifying school-age athletes with high motor skills and performance for handball can be classified by a cutoff point (Y = 0.192). The results showed that the mathematical-model obtained was able to select school-age athletes with high motor skills for handball, and with the profile for participation in high-level championships. Given the well-documented toll of gender-based violence on the wellbeing of women and girls, schools and universities can be key sites of advocacy and prevention. Peace educators have identified tackling gender-based violence as a priority for the field. Yet, two gaps persist. Firstly, the lived experiences of female survivors outside Europe and North America remain little understood in research. Secondly, the severe structural barriers female survivors face risk being overlooked in overly individualistic conceptualisations of wellbeing that neglect the social context. We argue that both these geographical and conceptual gaps can be addressed by considering voices from the Global South and closely contextualising children and women's experiences. We thereby utilise qualitative data from South Asia and the Middle East, combining the social-ecological model with Galtung's framework of direct, structural and cultural violence to contextualise the emotions and experiences of female participants and to flag the role of education and societal structures in perpetuating or tackling gender-based violence. We conclude with an ecological conceptualisation of 'being-well', calling for sustainable, context-sensitive action for peace and social change and highlighting the responsibility of education to provide sanctuary to those who seek it. Displacement and conflict substantially heighten the risk of gender-based violence including intimate partner violence (IPV), experienced by women and girls. This study aims to examine the links between conflict, forced displacement and IPV using nationally representative survey data measuring IPV combined with data on conflict-related violence from two different conflict-affected settings: Colombia and Liberia. We find that forced displacement is strongly associated with increased lifetime and past year IPV. Displaced women and girls in Colombia and Liberia have a 36 and 55 per cent, respectively greater risk of experiencing past year IPV and 39 and 49 per cent greater risk of experiencing lifetime IPV in each country respectively, compared to their non-displaced counterparts. Both conflict and displacement are independently and significantly associated with past year IPV. Taking conflict intensity into account increases the associated IPV risk to 40 and 60 per cent in Colombia and Liberia respectively. Recognising the increased prevalence of IPV for displaced women is vital to providing effective assistance. Humanitarian, state and peace-building efforts, should encompass the provision of a range of assistance services to help displaced and conflict-affected women heal from the impacts of the violence. Greater women's bargaining power and decision‐making within a household have been shown to increase investments in human capital. This study links women's participation in decision‐making in dairy production with household investment in girls and boys in health, nutrition, and education. We survey households in the urbanizing region of Bangalore, India. We utilize a multinomial treatment effects model to analyze the individual and household factors that are associated with women's participation in sole or joint decision‐making. We then assess how the type of decision‐making influences a household's investments. The results first show that female decision‐making households are more disadvantaged on average than other types of decision‐making households. Second, we observe that female decision‐makers for dairy production are more likely to have more children and earn a higher income than their husbands. Third, the main findings show that households in which women engage in joint decision‐making have higher levels of investment across all categories for girls. Conversely, investments decrease in education and nutrition for both girls and boys when the wife is the sole decision‐maker. This article explores the vital roles of matter in the emerging sexual cultures of elementary school children. Based on a case study of a seven-year-old girl, it draws from ethnographic research on the gendered and sexual power relations of students in Northern Finland. Inspired by feminist, new materialist theories, the analysis indicates how everyday objects may be seen as co-constituting heterosexual femininity by attaching even young girls to teenage cultures and emphasizing femininity and distancing them from childhood and masculinity. This article shows, furthermore, how materiality acts in generating "cross-pulls" that may evoke popularity and admiration, but also cause restrictions to the agency of girls in the ambiguous entanglements of child sexual cultures. This article examines two paintings of sick girls by the Danish painters Michael Ancher and Ejnar Nielsen and asks whether it makes sense at all to discuss certain diseases when none of the artists diagnosed their paintings of sick or convalescent girls with a particular disease. Though these paintings of sick girls differ in the way they are composed, the titles of the works vary very little, the greatest difference often being whether the painting is titled "The Sick Girl" or "The Convalescent." Preference for sons has been shown in various ways, but is it still up to date? I investigate how sex preference has evolved during the past 50 years using population-wide data from Finland. I find that having a first-born girl increases fertility and decreases the probability of being together with the child's father in the 1960s to 1980s but not after the 1990s. Families with a first-born girl had 0.03 more children in the years 1960–1980. The effect decreases to an imprecise zero in the 1990s and to 0.007 fewer children in the 2000s. This shift occurs at the same time as the female and male employment rates approach each other. As the costs of raising a girl are not greater than those of raising a boy in Finland, the results suggest that the shift might be due to increased female bargaining power. Past literature has shown that females prefer girls over boys or are more neutral than males, who prefer having sons over daughters more often. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our study aimed to explore the lived experiences of Venezuelan refugee/migrant women and girls with disabilities to guide humanitarian assistance. The data analysed was part of a larger cross-sectional study whereby refugees and migrants in Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil were asked to share the migration experiences of a Venezuelan woman or girl. The sample for this analysis was drawn from one of the survey questions that asked participants whether the woman/girl in the narrative identified as a person with a disability. Thematic analysis using inductive coding was performed. A total of 126 narratives were included in the final analysis, of which four major themes were identified. Venezuelan refugees and migrants with disabilities described experiences of discrimination, violence, and physical challenges, such as exacerbation of symptoms while in transit. In host countries, refugees and migrants experienced a lack of disability-related accommodations in the workplace and long wait times when trying to obtain healthcare. Since discrimination is a cross-cutting issue, human rights awareness highlighting the dignity of persons with disabilities is imperative. Resources and support for Venezuelan refugee and migrant women and girls with disabilities should aim to create accessible employment opportunities, safe and timely access to medical care, and prioritise violence prevention. This is an extended review of Violence and Gender Disparities against Women: A Global Scenario, edited by Anupama Vohra, Jasbir Singh, Parveen Kumari, and Barbara Wejnert (Punjab, India: White Falcon, 2022), considering the multicultural and multi-perspective nature of its authors' research on gender disparities violence and against women and girls. The Western perspective on this pressing problem, dominant in public discourse, desensitizes us to the historical and socio-cultural aspects of violence against women and girls and its local specificity. The reviewed book is an attempt to expand this perspective to the Asian countries in a glocal approach, the result of collectively conducted and presented research effects "from home." Thus the book is the result of mapping the issues related to violence against women and girls different regions of the world. Parental involvement in youth sports is increasingly relevant in scientific research since parents have gradually developed awareness regarding youngsters' sports experiences. This study aimed to (1) examine potential differences in athletes' and parents' perceptions of parental involvement practices in youth basketball, (2) verify whether these perceptions differ by sex, and (3) analyze the relationship between the different perceptions dimensions recorded. The analysis included a large sample of 423 Portuguese participants (151 youth basketball athletes and 272 parents) who completed the Parental Behaviors in Sports (PBSP) questionnaire. The PBSP comprises a version for parents and a version for athletes, composed of five dimensions: (1) sports support, (2) competition attendance, (3) technical influence, (4) performance pressure, and (5) sports expectations. No significant statistical differences regarding PBSP dimensions were observed between boys and girls in the athletes' group. However, in the parents' group, fathers scored significantly lower than mothers in sports expectations (p = 0.001). Differences between athletes' and parents' perceptions were evident in competition attendance (p = 0.023), technical influence (p ≤ 0.001), and sports expectations (p = 0.023). When analyzing the dyads of boys–fathers and girls–mothers, significant differences were found for technical influence (p = 0.035), performance pressure (p = 0.020), and sports expectations (p < 0.001) between boys and fathers. Among girls and mothers, differences were perceived exclusively for technical influence (p = 0.005). Finally, technical influence correlated significantly with performance pressure (r = 0.351, p < 0.001) and sports expectations (r = 0.367, p < 0.001). Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study—Kindergarten Class of 2011 (n = 14,370; 51% Male; 51% White; 14% Black; 25% Hispanic; 4% Asian; and 6% Other), this study examined the cumulative, timing‐specific, and enduring associations between student–teacher relationships in the United States and a broad range of student outcomes. Student–teacher conflict and closeness were consistently associated with outcomes between kindergarten and third grade, both contemporaneously and over time. The main exception was for student absenteeism, where there were less consistent associations with student–teacher conflict. Cumulative models underscore the significance of the overall experiences of high‐quality relationships over time. The best medical care for female football athletes should be evidence-based, and patient- and context-specific. A 2019 scoping review identified key knowledge gaps relating to the health of female footballers. Since then, research in women’s football has been intensifying. To aid in the direction of future research, this study aims to scope peer-reviewed, illness-related research in women’s football. Five databases were searched in July 2023. In combination with identified studies from the 2019 review, 72 studies were included for data extraction of sample characteristics (age, playing level, geography), illness characteristics according to IOC guidance, and broader research themes. Results reveal an overall lack of quantity and variety in illnesses investigated, with a growing popularity in mental health research. Minimal female athlete-specific illnesses were identified. Future research must address urgent female-specific illness topics, and also consider where knowledge from adjacent populations might be safe to adapt into women’s football. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sexual corruption is a gendered crime, in which especially women and girls are coerced into providing sexual acts in exchange for access to public services or public opportunities. It has not received sufficient legislative attention, is often partially and inadequately criminalised through a patchwork of laws that ignore the different dimensions of the offence, and its impact on women and girls. This paper examines the legal framework against sexual corruption in South Africa and in several other countries, examining the approaches taken to criminalize sexual corruption and the challenges inherent in these approaches. The paper suggests a new way of defining sexual corruption and proposes a framework for addressing sexual corruption through a dedicated sexual corruption offence and victim-centred reporting infrastructure. Background: Over the past few years, the sport psychology literature has established that gender stereotype threat (ST) is one of the factors that can impair girls' performance. However, few studies have attempted to annihilate these negative effects. The purpose of the current study was to investigate whether questioning gender ST can mitigate the classical decline in girls' standing long jump (SLJ) performance. Methods: The participants were 120 girls (Mage = 10.74 ± 0.85 years), selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to three groups: the gender ST group (n = 40), the questioning group (n = 40), and the control group (n = 40). For all groups, baseline performance (i.e., SLJ) was measured by a female researcher following a warm-up period. In the experimental phase, the control group repeated the baseline conditions; the gender ST group completed the same test but was evaluated by a male examiner (i.e., implicit stereotype induction), while participants in the questioning group were assessed after receiving questioning statements while performing the task in front of a male examiner. Results: The results of the present study showed that the induction of a gender ST leads to a decrease in SLJ in girls. Additionally, if these inducing conditions of gender ST are accompanied by a questioning condition, the negative effects of gender ST can be reduced, and SLJ in girls does not decline. Conclusion: Based on our findings, this intervention is recommended as a simple, inexpensive, and quick solution for mitigating the negative effects of gender ST on girl's motor performance. Background: Cervical cancer is one of the commonest female cancers in Ghana. However, it is preventable. Prevention through Human Papilloma Virus immunization and early detection by screening have their foundation in awareness and a good knowledge about the disease. Acquiring the right knowledge about cervical cancer should be earlier rather than later while mindsets are still being formed to translate into the right attitudes and behaviours later in life. Methodology: An unpaired pre- and post-test quasi experimental study was conducted at two Ghanaian senior high schools. An educational intervention was carried out comprising a drama, PowerPoint lecture, question and answer session and cervical cancer information leaflet distribution. A self-administered questionnaire was given as a pre-test and repeated as a post-test after 3 months. The total score for each domain of knowledge tested was categorized into adequate knowledge (≥ 50%) and inadequate knowledge (< 50%). Results: The number of participants in the pre- and post-test were 1,107 and 1,276 girls respectively, with average age of 16 years. General knowledge on cervical cancer improved to 94.4% from 73% following the intervention, but only 46.2% said cervical cancer was curable following the education. Knowledge on symptoms improved from 78 to 87.1% and risk factor knowledge improved from 81.8 to 89.3%. After the intervention, 37% from an initial 42% still thought that having sex at a young age (adolescence) was not a risk factor. Screening and prevention knowledge improved from 82.9 to 91% but only 37.2% knew the recommended age to begin screening with pap smears, even after the education. Overall knowledge on cervical cancer after the education significantly improved from 79.1 to 92.3%. Conclusion: Knowledge of cervical cancer among young girls in two High Schools, improved with the educational intervention. Areas of education to be emphasized are: cervical cancer is curable if diagnosed early, increased risk with early onset of sexual activity, and recommended age to start screening. Educating young girls on cervical cancer increases their awareness and gives them adequate knowledge which should influence their attitudes and behaviour towards cervical cancer in the future. Introduction: Treatment options are expanding for von Willebrand disease (VWD). A core outcome set (COS)—a minimum set of agreed‐upon outcomes to be used in every clinical trial for a given condition—provides guidance on which outcomes are most important to measure to ensure necessary data is collected for a variety of stakeholders and enable comparison across products and trials. Aim: coreVWD aimed to develop a COS for trials for prophylaxis and perioperative treatments for VWD. Methods: A modified Delphi consensus process was used to condense/prioritize a long list of potential outcomes. Over three Delphi rounds, a multi‐stakeholder panel (patients, clinicians, pharmaceutical company representatives, HTA organizations, payer, and government organization representatives) rated each outcome from 1 (not important to include in a COS) to 9 (essential to include). Outcomes were eliminated or retained based on pre‐determined criteria; a special provision to elevate patient priorities was included. An in‐person consensus meeting was held after Delphi round 2. Results: Thirty‐nine panellists participated. The final COS for prophylaxis treatment included 18 outcomes, seven of which are part of a special subset selected for women, girls and people with the potential to menstruate. There were 11 outcomes in the final perioperative branch COS. Six outcomes overlapped both COS. Conclusions: The coreVWD COS represents a consensus list of outcomes for clinical trials for both factor and non‐factor VWD therapies. These outcomes will be useful across the lifecycle of a product, from clinical development through regulatory and market access phases and into patient‐provider decision‐making. This study investigated a three‐choice matching‐to‐sample procedure with an observing‐response requirement to induce select and reject control during baseline training and examined their effects on the formation of equivalence classes. The study involved four girls, aged 8 to 10 years, who participated in a computer‐based task that alternated between conditions designed to induce select and reject control by requiring observing responses to display the stimuli. In the select‐control condition, the correct stimulus was revealed first on at least 75% of the trials, increasing the likelihood of selecting the correct stimulus without seeing the incorrect ones. In contrast, in the reject‐control condition, the correct stimulus was revealed third on at least 75% of the trials, forcing the display of both incorrect stimuli. This procedure successfully generated both select and reject control, which increased progressively with the accuracy during baseline training trials. Select control was more prominent than reject control, but both led to the formation of equivalence classes. This finding suggests that reject control does not hinder control by the correct stimulus. This article explores the challenges, needs and capacities of girls born of conflict-related sexual violence during the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi. Twenty-nine interviews and 11 focus groups were conducted with girls born of genocidal rape, alongside 44 interviews with mothers of children born of genocidal rape. In a society where Umwana w'umugore – being 'the child of a woman' – is considered an insult for children born of rape, gendered realities profoundly shape girls' experiences. Data reveal that girls born of genocidal rape face challenges related to identity and belonging, multiple forms of violence and economic challenges. Moreover, girls sustain the indirect consequences of gender-based injustices committed against their mothers, making stigma and social exclusion shared and intergenerational experiences, alongside mutual care and support. How does the representation of boy and girl exemplars in curricular materials affect students' learning? We tested two competing hypotheses about the impact of gender exemplar on learning: First, in line with Social Learning Theory, children might exhibit a same‐gender bias such that they prefer to learn from exemplars that match their gender (H1). Second, consistent with research on children's stereotypes about gender and math (e.g., associating boys with math competence), children might prefer to learn from exemplars who match their stereotypes about who is good at math (H2). We tested these hypotheses with children in middle school (N = 166), a time of development in which stereotypes are well‐engrained, but before gender differences in math achievement appear. Children viewed two distinct math strategies, each presented by a boy or girl exemplar. We then examined which strategy children employed on a subsequent math test as well as their perceived similarity to the exemplars and their awareness or endorsement of gender‐math stereotypes. Children did not preferentially learn from same‐gender exemplars. However, children with stereotypes associating boys with math were more likely to learn the more difficult strategy when it was presented by a boy exemplar than children who did not associate boys with math. The results of this study provide valuable insight into how children's stereotypes impact their real‐world learning. Hand use varies according to which brain hemisphere is dominant. Early androgen exposure causes right hemisphere dominance. This study is aimed at comparing the testes and ovary sizes of healthy left-handed girls and boys with those of healthy right-handed children and investigating whether or not lateralization affects the gonads. The ovarian and testicular sizes of healthy left- and right-handed boys and girls who were similar in height, weight, and age were compared by ultrasonography. One hundred and eleven (111) children—including 26 left- and 26 right-handed girls and 31 left- and 28 right-handed boys—were included in this study. The mean age of left-handed girls was 77.2 ± 25.3 months, and the mean age of right-handed girls was 74.4 ± 25.2 months. Right transverse diameter (p = 0.004), right longitudinal diameter (p = 0.009), and right ovarian volume (p = 0.020) were larger in left-handed girls above 8 years of age than in left-handed girls below 8 years of age. However, these values were similar in right-handed girls above and below 8 years of age. In right-handed girls, the transverse diameter was larger in the right ovary than in the left ovary (0.014). Other ovarian values were similar. The mean age of left-handed boys was 85.2 ± 41.3 months, whereas the mean age of right-handed ones was 81 ± 41.2 months. Prepubertal and pubertal right- and left-handed boys had similar mean right and left testicular diameters and volumes (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Lateralization affected gonad size in girls. In boys, gonads were not affected by lateralization. Cerebral lateralization may affect the hypothalamic-pituitary–gonadal axis in girls. The right to education is crucial for solving gender inequalities in developing countries. Set against the backdrop of persistent gender disparities starting from primary education level in Pakistan, using capability approach, this article analyses gender inequalities in education in the Punjab province through the effectiveness of the Girls' Stipend Programme (GSP) on girls' educational opportunities using a mixed methods approach. The GSP, aims to increase female enrolment in public schools, and targets families from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The findings show that the GSP has led to short-term impact on girls' increased enrolment in middle schools, although issues of access to education such as physical safety, transition to secondary schools and the quality of schooling needed attention. The parental aspirations for girls' education is high particularly among mothers from lower economic backgrounds and main driver for female education but the larger question of the instrumental role of education in transforming gender inequalities is still pertinent. Purpose: Adults with neurodevelopmental disorders have an increased risk for chronic pain. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of frequent and multisite pain among children with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and explore potential sex differences in pain prevalence. Participants and Methods: Children born in 2008 included in the "Halland Health and Growth Study" were invited to a follow-up (n = 1186) in 2018– 19. Parents received a digital screening questionnaire, the Swanson, Nolan and Pelham Rating Scale (SNAP-IV) for ADHD, and the children answered a pain questionnaire that included a pain mannequin. The main outcome was pain experience, and children with symptoms of ADHD were compared to children without these symptoms. Results: In this general population of 10– 11-year-old Swedish children, weekly pain was reported in 52.5% of children with symptoms of ADHD combined type, compared to 36.2% of children without these symptoms (p < 0.05). Hyperactivity and impulsivity were significant contributors to the increased risk for frequent pain (OR 2.33 95% CI 1.30 to 4.17, p = 0.004), but inattention was not a significant contributor (OR 1.17 95% CI 0.74 to 1.87, p = 0.497). Multisite pain was more common among girls with hyperactivity compared to boys with hyperactivity (51.4 vs 27.9%, p = 0.036). Weekly headache and/or abdominal pain was reported by a quarter of girls with symptoms of ADHD combined type, and up to a fifth of boys, compared to 11– 13% of children without these symptoms. Conclusion: Frequent pain was more common for children with symptoms of ADHD compared to children without symptoms of ADHD. Hyperactivity and impulsivity had a stronger association to pain than had inattention-related problems. Clinicians should be aware of the frequent occurrence and the association between pain and neurodevelopmental disorders among children, and that it could complicate both the clinical picture and the treatment. Background Central precocious puberty (CPP) is a common endocrine disease in children, which shows an increasing trend year by year in recent years. It can be divided into fast-progressing central precocious puberty (RP-CPP) and slow-progressing central precocious puberty (SP-CPP) through pubertal development. RP-CPP has great harm, but it is difficult to distinguish it from SP-CPP in early clinical stage, mainly relying on the progress of adolescent development and bone age during follow-up. At present, there is a lack of effective laboratory indicators to predict RP-CPP. Objective To investigate the relationship between luteinizing hormone (LH) /follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) ratio and pubertal development. Methods CPP girls aged 4-10 years old (n=380) admitted to the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University from January 2020 to May 2022 were regression selected and divided into RP-CPP group (n=130) and SP-CPP group (n=250 cases) according to indicators such as puberal development process. Clinical characteristics of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis of the influencing factors of RP-CPP was performed, and ROC curve of LH/FSH ratio on the predictive value of RP-CPP was drawn. Abstract Background Achieving equitable healthcare access for persons with disabilities is vital, as they often face various barriers that impact their health and well-being. Recognizing the importance of gender equity, this study aims to explore the specific barriers faced by women and girls with disabilities in accessing quality healthcare services in Lebanon. Methods A mixed-method sequential explanatory approach was employed. Initially, a retrospective descriptive study analyzed data from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)-supported physical rehabilitation programme (PRP) database. Subsequently, in-depth interviews were conducted to delve into factors influencing gender-disproportionate service users and to uncover barriers to accessing healthcare. Levesque et al.‘s ‘Conceptual framework on healthcare access’ was used to organize and map the results. Results The quantitative analysis of service utilization at ICRC PRP centers from 2015 to 2022 revealed significant gender disparities, with males comprising 66.6% of service users compared to 33.4% females. This trend was consistent across age categories, nationalities, and clinical conditions. Healthcare access for women and girls with disabilities was found to be inadequate across all five dimensions of the Levesque framework: adequacy, accessibility, affordability, appropriateness, and availability, as well as their corresponding abilities. While certain challenges such as transportation, financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and limited information on available services were common to both genders, gender-specific barriers primarily included societal norms, safety concerns during unaccompanied visits to healthcare facilities, limited access to societal information, economic disparities, preferences for female healthcare providers, and the need for privacy during consultations. Conclusion This study underscores key barriers hindering healthcare access for women and girls with disabilities in Lebanon, necessitating tailored interventions. Gender-specific challenges, including societal norms and safety concerns, require targeted solutions for improved access and outcomes. This study serves as a call to action for stakeholders at various levels to collaborate and implement concrete measures to bridge the gap in healthcare access and ensure that no one is left behind.

Spatial awareness with a focus on surfaces, levels, directions and trajectories in students is very important and this is achieved through exercises in which the use of space and the development of place awareness are central. The experiment was carried out on a group of 200 male and female primary school pupils (6-10 years old), divided into two groups. The experimental group, consisting of 100 pupils and the control group of 100 pupils. They were divided into two categories: class 1-2 and class 3-4. Spatial orientation was assessed using the Piaget -Head test. A 7-week intervention plan was applied to develop spatial orientation. Our study indicates that there are statistically significant differences between the control and intervention groups in thegirls' group (grade 3-4) on the Piaget Test, F (1, 52) = 4.43; p < .05, partial η2 = .08. No significant differences were recorded for the remaining age groups. The application of the 7-week intervention plan was not sufficient for the development of spatiotemporal orientation.
