The transfer‐hydrogenation as well as the regioselective and regiodivergent addition of H−D from regiospecific deuterated dihydroaromatic compounds to a variety of 1,1‐di‐ and trisubstituted alkenes was realised with InBr3 in dichloro(m)ethane. In comparison with the previously reported BF3⋅Et2O‐catalysed process, electron‐deficient aryl‐substituents can be applied reliably and thereby several restrictions could be lifted, and new types of substrates could be transformed successfully in hydrodeuterogenation as well as deuterohydrogenation transfer‐hydrogenation reactions. Various O and S -glycosyl esters and their corresponding acids are synthesized through a reaction of bromo sugar and benzyl glycolate in the presence of indium trichloride and indium tribromide as promoter. We discovered unprecedented catalytic effects of indium tribromide in glycosylation and hydrogenolysis in a one-pot operation. Abstract: A simplified method for the preparation of Fmoc-serine and Fmoc-threonine glycosides for use in O-linked glycopeptide synthesis is described. Lewis acids promote glycoside formation, but also promote undesired reactions of the glycoside products. Use of ‘minimally competent’ Lewis acids such as InBr3 promotes the desired activation catalytically, and with greatly reduced side products from sugar peracetates. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: InBr3 promoted three-component reactions of an aryldiazoacetate, an alcohol, and an electron deficient carbonyl compound gave α,β-dihydroxyl acid derivatives in good yield with high diastereoselectivity. The reaction is proposed through a protic oxonium ylide trapping process. The reaction mechanism for the formation of the protic oxonium ylide via Lewis acid InBr3 catalyzed diazo decomposition is suggested through a vinyl cationic intermediate. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Ethers undergo smooth cleavage with acyl chloride in the presence of catalytic amount of indium(III) bromide under mild conditions to give the corresponding halo esters. The use of a novel InBr3–Et3N reagent system to promote addition reactions of 1-alkynes not only with a variety of aromatic or bulky aliphatic aldehydes but also with N,O-acetals is described.
