- Abstract
This article aims to identify and allocate logistics activities, determine the relationships between them, and investigate the capabilities of the desired region for establishing logistics centers. The research method is descriptive-applied, and data collection is field-based, the statistical population consists of three groups: the first group comprises logistics and supply chain experts who provided their scientific opinions on selecting processes and activities required for a logistics center, also applied the selection of the fourth-generation industry agents, the second group consists of managers and decision-makers in logistics centers who determined the operational relationships of logistics processes based on their experience in involved organizations. The third group includes managers and experts from logistics centers in Iran who determined the operational activities for the real environment and used them to test the measurement model. Through specialized interviews with experts, logistics processes and activities were identified and classified into four processes, and the necessary activities were determined for each process. The DEMATEL method was employed to determine the relationships between activities. The Fourth-generation industry agents for the identified activities were determined based on expert opinions. The compatibility rate method was used to determine the level of each fourth-generation activity for logistics processes. The compatibility rate results indicated that logistics processes and fourth-generation agents are at level 2, indicating a considerable gap in reaching maturity and implementation of the fourthgeneration industry. The transportation process showed the lowest growth rate, while the information management process exhibited the highest growth rate in the maturity model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To analyze the adoption of industry 4.0 technologies to promote sustainable practices, in the last five years, in a chemical industry that manufactures adhesives. Methodology: Single case study, with a qualitative approach, collecting empirical data through four in-depth interviews, systematic participant observation and documentary survey, submitting the data to content analysis. Results: It was identified that the company uses some I4.0 technologies to reduce environmental impact, such as big data and IoT. Due to the size of the company and limited resources, investments in new technologies and incorporation of sustainable practices are restricted. Limitations: As this is a case study, the results obtained cannot be generalized. Practical implications: The results provide managers of organizations that wish to adopt industry 4.0 technologies with elements for analysis and reflection, to develop their own plans and guide operational procedures. Theoretical implications: The results provide the advancement of knowledge about the adoption of industry 4.0 technologies in small companies and similar economic sectors. Originality/value: The study can be considered original, as a search was carried out in the SCOPUS database in March 2024, selecting articles in English between 2019 and 2023, obtaining only 15 articles, which highlights the scarcity of research on the topic. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is a global phenomenon affecting all spheres of operations and all organisations. The South African vanadium mining and minerals extraction operations are included in this. The objective of this research was to understand work done on 4IR technologies for feasible future operations in SA's vanadium sector so as to find out any necessary conditions or factors that contribute to the decision to adopt 4IR technologies. A secondary objective was to determine any correlations among the factors and organisational targets. These have been met by following an exploratory stance using both qualitative and quantitative methods to find and analyse the data gathered. The main findings were that the factors affecting vanadium mining activities in SA are technical feasibility, cost of automation, benefits of automation and regulation requirements. Seven levels of automation have been used to assess the current levels of automation. A framework has been proposed and used to investigate the factors that contribute to the decisions for automation in the vanadium industry in South Africa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The purpose of the study is to examine how Industry 4.0, and the digital environment, have together created a new situation for companies and universities in terms of soft skills for employability. While companies aim to introduce a new structure, universities try to align with these changes by developing new educational methods, curricula, and models. Many researches are focusing on - rightfully so - Industry 4.0 skills and competences to gain throughout higher education. However, we have shifted our research interest and asked students to what degree their university years added to their knowledge, self-management and skills. 147 engineering and technical manager students’ responses from two faculties at Óbuda University, Hungary were analyzed to see their evaluations of the role of the university in the framework of Education 4.0, and their chances in the job market. Quantitative and CHAID analyses were used. Students’ responses show significant differences between the two faculties regarding languages, teamwork, self-management and in the different order of the skills seen as most paramount to employability. Engineering students attach greater importance to field-relevant knowledge, while technical manager students find decision-making more useful. The research proved that Education 4.0 is here and Z generation studying at universities prefers problem-based learning, including creativity, analytical, and critical thinking while would like to have good communication skills. Universities need to adapt to these changes and integrate hard as well as soft skills development in tutoring. The importance of technical-IT knowledge is just as important as having interpersonal skills, excellence in problem-solving, so students need to be taught how to analyze problems, engage in scientific debate, or express themselves clearly as previous literature indicated.

- Abstract
Agriculture is a vital human activity that contributes to sustainable development. A few decades ago, the agricultural sector adopted the Internet of Things (IoT), which has played a relevant role in precision and smart farming. The IoT developments in agriculture require that numerous connected devices work cooperatively. This increases the vulnerability of IoT devices, mainly because they lack the necessary built-in security because of their context and computational capacity. Other security threats to these devices are related to data storage and processing connected to edge or cloud servers. To ensure that IoT-based solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements, particularly those concerning security, software companies should adopt a security-focused approach to their software requirements specification. This paper proposes a method for specifying security scenarios, integrating requirements and architecture viewpoints into the context of IoT for agricultural solutions. The method comprises four steps: (i) describe scenarios for the intended software, (ii) describe scenarios with incorrect uses of the system, (iii) translate these scenarios into security scenarios using a set of rules, and (iv) improve the security scenarios. This paper also describes a prototype application that employs the proposed algorithm to strengthen the incorrect use scenario based on the correct use scenario. Then, the expert can complete the information for the analysis and subsequent derivation of the security scenario. In addition, this paper describes a preliminary validation of our approach. The results show that the proposed approach enables software engineers to define and analyze security scenarios in the IoT and agricultural contexts with good results. A survey administered to five security experts found that the proposed security scenario method is generally useful for specifying agricultural IoT solutions but needs improvement in different areas., La agricultura es una actividad humana vital que contribuye al desarrollo sostenible.

- Abstract
During the last decade, a new set of information and communication technologies applied to the industrial sector has emerged: Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technological system. In this article, we study the Argentina´s case, focusing on I4.0 goods and services´ supply. We aim to contribute to the literature from the angle of an economy characterized by its heterogeneous productive structure. Developing I4.0 supply is of major importance to increase the technological adoption to catch up. We found that although the Argentina´s I4.0 technological system has a reduced number of firms, it has competences in several technological areas (e,g. software, AI, IoT). Moreover, the productive diversification trajectories are similar to those observed in the global technological system. After studying some of them, we discover that the Argentina´s I4.0 supply is heterogeneous and has different characteristics. In effect, we propose different classifications that can help the public policy. Last, we consider that policy makers have to take into account 3 key dimensions: the structural small/medium size of the firms, the market segmentation and the solutions´ scalability., En la última década hemos observado el desarrollo de un nuevo paquete vinculado a las tecnologías de la información y comunicación en el sector manufacturero: la industria 4.0.

Using the entire population of USPTO patent applications published between 2002 and 2019, and leveraging on both patent classification and semantic analysis, this paper aims to map the current knowledge base centred on robotics and AI technologies. These technologies are investigated both as a whole and distinguishing core and related innovations, along a 4-level core-periphery architecture. Merging patent applications with the Orbis IP firm-level database allows us to put forward a twofold analysis based on industry of activity and geographic location. In a nutshell, results show that: (i) rather than representing a technological revolution, the new knowledge base is strictly linked to the previous technological paradigm; (ii) the new knowledge base is characterised by a considerable—but not impressively widespread—degree of pervasiveness; (iii) robotics and AI are strictly related, converging (particularly among the related technologies and in more recent times) and jointly shaping a new knowledge base that should be considered as a whole, rather than consisting of two separate GPTs; (iv) the US technological leadership turns out to be confirmed (although declining in relative terms in favour of Asian countries such as South Korea, China and, more recently, India).

Summary: A simulation‐based optimization is a decision‐making tool that helps in identifying an optimal solution or a design for a system. An optimal solution and design are more meaningful if they enhance a smart system with sensing, computing, and monitoring capabilities with improved efficiency. In situations where testing the physical prototype is difficult, a computer‐based simulation and its optimization processes are helpful in providing low‐cost, speedy and lesser time‐ and resource‐consuming solutions. In this work, a comparative analysis of the proposed heuristic simulation‐optimization method for improving quality‐of‐service (QoS) is performed with generalized integrated optimization (a simulation approach based on genetic algorithms with evolutionary simulated annealing strategies having simplex search). In the proposed approach, feature‐based local (group) and global (network) formation processes are integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) based solutions for finding the optimum performance. Further, the simulated annealing method is applied for finding local and global optimum values supporting minimum traffic conditions. A small‐scale network of 50 to 100 nodes shows that genetic simulation optimization with multicriteria and multidimensional features performs better as compared to other simulation‐optimization approaches. Further, a minimum of 3.4% and a maximum of 16.2% improvement is observed in faster route identification for small‐scale IoT networks with simulation‐optimization constraints integrated model as compared to the traditional method. The proposed approach improves the critical infrastructure monitoring performance as compared to the generalized simulation‐optimization process in complex transportation scenarios with heavy traffic conditions. The communicational and computational‐cost complexities are least for the proposed approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, there have been unprecedented changes in technologies driven by automation, robotics and artificial intelligence, the fusion of which is referred to as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (I-4) with a potential to change the future of work. One of the worldwide concerns is on the employment effects of I-4. There are two scenarios—one called as "automation anxiety" that focuses on labour substitution effects and the other which is "optimistic" of technological complementarity of creating new jobs. Either way, what is certain is that the nature of the future of work will not be the same as it is in the present, and the future workforce needs agile capabilities. The preparation for such a challenge begins with the foundational school education. This paper, after a brief overview of the debate on the impact of I-4 on employment, turns to the issue of the preparedness in India in terms of the foundational education at the school level. Based on the evidence, it documents the deep learning crisis in school education in India and argues for strengthening foundation-level school education through an increase in public investment and public provision that would ensure better capabilities in an equitable way. Digitalization through Industry 4.0 technologies is one of the essential steps for the complete collaboration, communication, and integration of heterogeneous resources in a manufacturing organization towards improving manufacturing performance. One of the ways is to measure the effective utilization of critical resources, also known as bottlenecks. Finding such critical resources in a manufacturing system has been a significant focus of manufacturing research for several decades. However, finding a bottleneck in a complex manufacturing system is difficult due to the interdependencies and interactions of many resources. In this work, a digital twin framework is developed to detect, diagnose, and improve bottleneck resources using utilization-based bottleneck analysis, process mining, and diagnostic analytics. Unlike existing bottleneck detection methods, this novel approach is capable of directly utilizing enterprise data from multiple levels, namely production planning, process execution, and asset monitoring, to generate event-log which can be fed into a digital twin. This enables not only the detection and diagnosis of bottleneck resources, but also validation of various what-if improvement scenarios. The digital twin itself is generated through process mining techniques, which can extract the main process map from a complex system. The results show that the utilization can detect both sole and shifting bottlenecks in a complex manufacturing system. Diagnosing and managing bottleneck resources through the proposed approach yielded a minimum throughput improvement of 10% in a real factory setting. The concept of a custom digital twin for a specific context and goal opens many new possibilities for studying the strong interaction of multi-source data and decision-making in a manufacturing system. This methodology also has the potential to be exploited for multi-objective optimization of bottleneck resources. CC BY 4.0E-mail addresses:mahesh.kumbhar@his.se (M. In the Latin American context and the economic, political, cultural, and social situation of the countries that make up this geographical space, it is worth asking to what extent Education 4.0, or some of its elements, have been implemented.

- Abstract
The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies promises to be a very useful tool to optimize processes. It is made up of 9 technologies; On the other hand, there is another tool called Lean Manufacturing (LM), made up of various techniques that are also used to improve process productivity. This research aims to determine the classification and influence of the implementation of LM techniques in the adoption of 4.0 technologies in a multiple case study of 8 manufacturing organizations located in the province of Pichincha. For this purpose, an exploratory transectional non-experimental design with a mixed approach was used. The research tool was a closed survey made up of 3 sections, the data analysis was carried out in the SPSS software where the classification was analyzed with the PEARSON coefficient and ANOVA. It was found that of the 8 companies surveyed, only 25% of them have a medium-high level of implementation of Lean Manufacturing; Likewise, 100% of these present a low level of implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies, the ANOVA analysis 0.01 < 0.05 with 95% confidence demonstrates that there is an influence of the level of implementation of Lean Manufacturing on the adoption of industry 4.0 technologies and the PEARSON coefficient indicates whether there is a significant evaluation between variables., La adopción de las tecnologías de la industria 4.0 promete ser una herramienta muy útil para optimizar procesos, está conformada por 9 tecnologías; por otro lado existe otra herramienta denominada Lean Manufacturing (LM), conformada por diversas técnicas que de igual forma se emplea para mejorar la productividad de procesos.

- Abstract
In the work, an industrial monitoring architecture is proposed, based on concepts of the so-called fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0. It is organized in a modular way, to facilitate its use and guarantee its scalability. The design of the architecture had, as a premise, to guarantee the requirements of lightness, open code and use of artificial intelligence tools. For achieving the first requirement, MQTT was chosen, as it is a lightweight message protocol. For their part, all the tools and code libraries used are permissive and (except one of them) compatible with the Debian free software guidelines. Finally, the conception of the modeling module guarantees the possibility of using various artificial intelligence tools to perform classifications and regressions, which allow the indirect monitoring of variables. For a preliminary validation of the system, it has been deployed in a monitoring system of the equatorial welded joint dimensions in 10 kg liquefied gas cylinders. These dimensions are determined, indirectly, through the digital processing of the captured images, by using a convolutional neural network. The deployed system widely showed its capability to fulfill the monitoring task for which it was designed., En el trabajo, se propone una arquitectura de monitoreo industrial, basada en conceptos de la llamada cuarta revolución industrial o Industria 4.0.
