This paper wants to look at how people's feelings and thoughts about a brand affect how they act on social media. Knowing how different people think is really important for managers who spend money on marketing. This study looks at how what people think about a brand relates to what they say about it on social media and if they support the brand there too. The research uses special ways to study how brands behave on social media. It focuses on how people feel about brands and how this affects what they do online. This study found that how people feel about a brand is connected to what they do to support it online. It also showed that different kinds of people act differently on social media, which is helpful for companies to know. Understanding how people feel about brands and act on social media is super important for companies. The informational domain related to COVID-19 reflects the degree of uncertainty and pace of evolution of the pandemic. This places a burden on peoples’ searches for information to guide their choices, importantly including for COVID-19 vaccines. Thus, it is important for health communications that support vaccination campaigns to attenuate vaccine hesitancy to be accessible, including in terms of readability, and adapted to the evolving pandemic. This paper aims to understand internet searches on COVID-19 vaccination, specifically the mix of sources and readability of the sources over a two-year period (2021–2023) in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, for search results in English, as English is a main language for each of these locations. The sources accessed through online searches in June 2021 and May 2023 were categorized by type of source and whether they were from one of the focal locations or elsewhere. The readability of information from web-search results was assessed using a set of readability tests (Flesch–Kincaid Reading Ease, Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog Index, Coleman–Liau Index, and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook Grade level). Over the two-year period there was an increase in government sources and reduction in mass media sources with distinct local patterns. Local government sources increased in Singapore whereas foreign government and multi-lateral organization sources increased in Hong Kong, with the Philippines being an intermediate pattern. In contrast to the changing mix of sources, the readability tests indicate a low proportion of URLs scoring within recommended readability thresholds across locations and types of sources over the two years. Sanal dünyanın iletişim ortamı olan sosyal medya aslında günlük hayatın bir parçası olmuştur. Milyonlarca ve hatta milyarlarca kullanıcısı olan bu ortam, insan hayatındaki önemli ihtiyaçlardan biri halini almıştır. İnsanları sanal ortamda sosyalleşme paydasında buluşturan sosyal medya; faklı toplumlardan, kültürlerden, milliyetlerden, ayrı inanç sistemlerinden, çok sayıda insanı bir araya getirebilmektedir. Böylelikle sosyal medya artık pek çok kişi için insanlara düşüncelerini, fikirlerini, taleplerini, eylemlerini, beğenilerini, günlük rutinlerini baskı altında olmadan paylaşma imkânı veren yeni bir kamusal alana dönüşmüştür. Bu araştırmada lise öğrencilerinin sosyal medyadaki dini içerikli paylaşımlara karşı bakış açılarının tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada kesitsel tarama modeli yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veriler anket tekniği ile elde edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda lise çağında olan öğrencilerin sosyal medyada dini paylaşımda bulunup bulunmadığı, paylaşımda bulunan öğrencilerin motivasyonları, dini paylaşımlara yönelik düşünceleri ve sebep olan unsurları, dini içerik paylaşma sıklıkları, paylaşılan içeriklerin türleri araştırılmıştır.

The subject of the article is the analysis of independent mass media in Russia right after Russia’s invasion in Ukraine in 2022. The author describes the situation in the segment of media opposing to Putin’s dictatorship. The relevance of the study is to analyse the methods of how to oppose and avoid restrictions by governmental censorship. The methodology of the study is the description of the process of media operations under severe governmental violations including internet technology, fiscal and taxation, law enforcement and several others; as well as interviews with editors and journalists from Russian independent media. As a result of the study, three major cases of Russian independent internet media were analysed referring to their struggle against censorship restrictions. The three online media «Novaia Gazeta», «Bumaga», «Novaya Vkladka» were examined. For example, in 2022 the local free media «Bumaga» published in the city of Saint Petersburg had 1.5-2 million original visits per month; it was the leading media in local market on 5 million population metropolitan area. It demonstrated the high level of journalism standards which enabled the news media to be both the popular service media and the effective marketplace for ideas on social and political issues in the region. With the beginning of Russia-Ukraine war editors and journalists rejected strictly to publish official Kremlin propaganda. Though numerous bans and restrictions, «Bumaga» became an effective media even in illegal conditions. Conclusions of the study shows a set of practices that enable the independent media to avoid censorship restrictions under conditions of modern dictatorship regimes. The number of free media in Russia lessens but it is not dramatic. Their futher development corresponds to the European and world media trends.

Video is an important carrier of all kinds of information on the Internet. More and more students choose to watch online learning videos from online learning platforms with various forms of intelligent terminals. To allow students to get the videos which they really need and are interested in from the mass videos, it is necessary to improve the existing personalized recommendation algorithm. Content-based recommendation method, collaborative filtering-based recommendation method and hybrid recommendation method often have the problems of loss of feature information or cocoon. To this end, this paper studies the personalized recommendation service of media educational resources based on multi-dimensional user features. This paper constructs a multi-feature candidate set based on student-video interaction, extracts and splices category feature, label feature and semantic feature of Internet media educational videos, and generates the representation of students' learning preference feature. Based on the improved forward and backward recurrent neural network, this study constructs a recommendation model of Internet media educational videos oriented to students' preference points. The paper presents the results of using eye-tracking technologies to study news materials on environmental topics collected as stimulus material and classified according to their impact on audience perception. The empirical material of the study came from news websites covering environmental issues. For objectivity, we compared two regional media resources – 74.ru (Chelyabinsk) and Aktobe Times2. We present our analysis of participants’ response to the studied materials and the degree of their influence on the participants’ emotional state and behavioral reactions. The paper also supplements the data obtained from content analysis in previous studies and expands the understanding of this issue. The chosen quantitative and qualitative approach to content research allowed us to determine the semantic and stylistic features of constructing ecotexts, determine their connotative characteristics, and classify them by groups, topics, and categories. The paper also contains survey data contributing to a deeper study of the stated problem and focusing on a detailed study of the audience’s behavioral responses. The survey data allowed us to confirm the expressed hypotheses and highlight the active areas of interest of the youth readership. Alongside the presented conclusions and points of discussion, we expressed the main assumptions highlighting the features of the formation of environmental texts in the news media.

The article discusses remote work as a subject of scientific research, describes the factors stimulating the development of distance employment and substantiates the need for a sociological study of this phenomenon in view of the high potential for the impact of changes in forms of employment not only on the labor market, but also on other social structures. Sociologists extremely rarely consider the remote work, despite the increased relevance in recent years, as a subject of study. Scientific publications devoted to remote work as the main type of employment, as a rule, relate to personnel management issues. However, it should be noted that changes in the structure of employment can also affect other social institutions, processes and relationships: the institution of the family, domestic relations, social and professional communications, social mobility, and the very relationship of a person to work. The authors have conducted preliminary monitoring of the media and blogosphere in the Tyumen region and come to the conclusion that, as of today, the applied research methods do not allow to fully reveal the impact of remote employment on all spheres of social life and describe the trends. Therefore, an in-depth sociological analysis of telecommuting with the help of in-depth interviews, interviews with experts, questionnaires to specialists employed in the labor market and representatives of the authorities is required to identify trends, prospects and social consequences.

The article explores the current trends in regional online journalism. The authors analyzed news headlines published on the Kuzbass online news media to identify productive patterns. Clickbait titles are a new phenomenon that borders on online journalism and news aggregators. As a rule, they disguise themselves as news headlines; however, they demonstrate semantic, lexical, stylistic, syntactic, and punctuation signs that reveal their belonging to the Yandex news aggregator.

The specifics of the work of the combat crew for monitoring the Internet media and radio air in combat conditions determines the expected equipment of the combat duty vehicle of the crew for monitoring the Internet media and radio air.The combat duty vehicle refers to special equipment and is used in mobile monitoring stations for Internet media and radio broadcasting based on the chassis of vehicles, which are their transport, energy and information-analytical base.

In this article, the sentiment analysis of several large Internet corpora made of Italian and English news is performed using a software written by the author, showing a possible connection with some economic trends. In this research, the news includes different topics (not necessarily financial news), and they are extrapolated from a large number of Internet newspapers. The software, already used in a previous article by the same author, is lexicon-based and makes use of scale points ranging from 0 to 100 to calculate an index of positivity in a text. The variation of sentiment tendency in the news corpora, calculated for a time period of several years, is later compared with some graphs showing some parameters of some economic trends, including the gross domestic product (GDP). It is found that the sentiment tendency of the news seems to have a relationship with the tendency of some economic trends that span the same time period. Positive growth of the economy per year seems connected with a positive variation in the index of positivity. Inversely, for a negative trend in the economy, the variation in the index of positivity is also negative. The article shows that, for various news topics, sentiment analysis can be useful to better understand some economic trends. For financial news, many studies show the possibility of predicting GDP growth through sentiment analysis. Abstract Background With COVID-19 pandemic, the world has witnessed a scenario that is unique compared to any other such pandemic that the world has grappled with. This is primarily owing to the parallel infodemic that the population faced with disinformation and misinformation explosion in several platforms that an individual can access. Main body The myriad of information that everyone in the world received acted as double-edged sword as some information helped individuals in allying the anxiety and stigma and motivated them for appropriate COVID-19 behavior; however, on the other hand, the same acted opposite and created a whole lot of negative problems in the community. The misinformation regarding the disease is not only limited to what has happened so far in the realm of prevention and control rather the same is also plaguing the efforts towards effective vaccine uptake. Conclusion With the technological and media advancement, it is getting difficult to ward off every misinformation that is getting received at individual end which is obviously detrimental in the efforts toward effective vaccine acceptance; however, measures need to be taken at appropriate level to curb this menace of infodemic to relax the world from the clutch of this pandemic. This article looks at the impact of the misinformation and disinformation on psychological wellbeing and vaccine acceptance and suggests remedial measures.

The analysis of the draft law On Media No. 2693, submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2019. The official reason for its development was the lack of working mechanisms to ensure information security and protection of the national media space of Ukraine in a hybrid war. The main task of our study is an attempt to determine the place of the bill in the reformed system of legal regulation of the media in Ukraine, from a position neutral to the process of the scientific community. (The following draft law On Misinformation, which is also under consideration by the Verkhovna Rada, speaks in favor of a systematic policy of reforms in the media sector of Ukraine). To this end, a detailed content analysis was conducted, which showed that the potentially ambiguous wording of the adopted document at the stage of its enforcement leaves the regulatory authorities free to interpret them depending on the interests of the parties, rather than on the letter of the law. The key to understanding the risks associated with its entry into force is the section on the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine, which will have jurisdiction over all aspects of the country's media structures, including economic ones. Thus, the proposed material may be of interest and be considered as a contribution to the development of criteria for a comprehensive scientific analysis of the legislation governing media structures, while the need for the participation of the scientific community in the development of such documents and public discussion at the stage of their preparation is obvious.

The article examines the “Stories” section of the “Meduza” Internet portal as a vivid example of the processes taking place in new media - the convergence of classical genres, the use of new technical and communication tools. The purpose of the study is to identify the content and genre features that represent the specific properties and characteristics of the materials of the heading “Stories” as an innovative genre of online media. Not only publications published in the “Stories” section were studied, but also Internet resources that covered the creation and functioning of the online publication. As a result of the study, it was found that the materials of the “Stories” heading have both common to most online publications and specific features, which gives grounds to define the “Stories” heading as a special genre of online media. The results of the linguistic study of the “Stories” section are of great importance in studying the peculiarities of the network infosphere and the practice of creating Internet content. Research materials can be used directly in the work of journalists of online publications, as well as in the development of training courses for students of the journalism training area.

With the development of mobile Internet, it is changing the way we communicate with others. Internet media have gradually become the main mobile crowdsourcing applications for information dissemination and user communication, including online news and social networks. However, the potential business opportunities have stimulated the emergence of a large number of spammers, who release false speech, advertisements, pornographic contents, and phishing websites on the media to gain commercial benefits, which seriously affects the experience of normal users. Therefore, in order to reduce the harm of false information, the research on the identification technology of spammers has been carried out extensively. However, the traditional technologies of identifying spammers involve high data costs and poor effects, and most of them are concentrated in the field of social networks, while less research is carried out in the field of online news. In this paper, we propose an effective technology of identifying online news comment spammers based on the label propagation algorithm (LPA), making full use of the user comment behaviors and contents. First of all, we collect a large amount of news and comments from NetEase News and label some users in the data as spammers or normal users manually to construct a labeled dataset. Then, a set of behavioral and semantic features are extracted and quantified from the user comment behaviors and comment contents by statistical analysis. Next, we propose the identification technology based on the LPA. Finally, the set of feature values is input into the proposed technology in different combinations, and experiments and evaluations are carried out to determine the most effective combination of features and improve the technology. The results show that the technology proposed in this paper involves a lower data cost but a better identification effect than some traditional technologies based on the supervised classifier.

This paper describes the construction and properties of the Lithuanian hate speech corpus. Initial data was collected from the Lithuanian news portal Delfi.lt. Then preprocessing was performed and user-generated comments under 13 selected news articles were annotated in 3 categories (Hate, Offensive, Neither). Currently, the Lithuanian hate speech corpus consists of 2372 user-generated comments (Hate - 445, Offensive - 288, Neither - 1639). All steps of preprocessing as well as statistical details of the corpus are discussed. This corpus was designed to contribute to publicly available ready-to-use Lithuanian lexical resources, therefore it will soon be available for public use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the study is to study and describe the practices of participation and interaction of city residents that contribute to the expression of civic activity. The survey method is used as a research method, which allows studying the forms and methods of communication between social activists. The article examines the relationship between the development of modern media and the formation of the public sphere. The article analyzes the specifics of online interaction practices of participants of new social movements, describes the need for Internet and media support in the activities of activists, and examines the extent to which the Internet activates civil initiatives. The originality of the research lies in the fact that for the first time social activity and forms of its interaction were studied. It is shown that activists deliberately refuse to organize a free market at the official level, to interact with state structures, and seek help from city authorities. It is revealed that the organizers of actions use Internet resources to promote their ideas, but they evaluate the importance of the Internet network in different ways: the Internet as the main media; the Internet as an additional media; the Internet as an optional media, in contrast to print media, ads and personal invitations. For the first time, it is determined that social activism notes the effectiveness of Internet resources for creating a team, also at the stage of informing citizens about actions and at the stage of distributing a report on the past action. It is shown that new social movements offer a clearly formulated ideology. For free market activists, these are anti-capitalist views, criticism of the consumer society, and a focus on solving global problems. The movement is characterized by a reflexive nature of ideology, which involves analyzing activities, reviewing goals, and searching for ways to develop. It is determined that in General, activists are working to form an urban identity that is an alternative to the image of a passive consumer. It is shown that it is more important for activists to create direct communication, rather than a virtual network for communication. Is traditional agenda-setting theory still relevant in a converged media environment? Scholars' opinion vary. However, many concede that changed media landscape has dramatically affected the dynamic of agenda setting, and the original theory that the news media sets the public agenda needs to be reevaluated. Some scholars are now questioning whether the Internet media are changing the dynamic of agenda-setting theory and whether a new model of agenda setting is required in the digital age. Considering that the term “new media” has become outdated, the author argues on the possibility of introducing the concept of “I-Media”, which is understood as a phenomenon of the postnonclassical paradigm in development of the theoretical knowledge about digital communications, interpreted as independent media, I media, integrated media, Internet media, and information society media at the sub-branch, branch, inter-branch, trans-branch, and super-branch levels, respectively. The sub-branch level reflects the general idea of new media as uncontrolled powerful and structured means of communication. The branch level follows the formula “I am – I-M” and is able to reflect the author's view on the processes of media persuasiveness. The interbranch level rests upon the ideas of integrated communications in the paradigm of postnonclassical science. The transbranch level indicates possible uptake of I-Media as one of autopoetic systems. The super-branch level provides a basis for describing the common view of the above-mentioned layers. Thus, from the standpoint of civilizational development, the transformation of media can be embedded in the development of humans (Homo Sapiens – Homo Mediatus – Homo Internetus – Internet Sapiens), which means the gradual elimination of the process of evolution of the values of “Homo”. The author believes that the guidance of “synergy focus” will allow: firstly, to imagine a global media system (mediaevalists) residing in the phase of transition from globalization to glocalization, as dissipative structures; secondly, to reflect on the possibility of post-nonclassical transformation of the metaphor of McLuhan's “the medium is the message”; thirdly, to consider relevant, through still understudied, aspects of media theory in the context of the present stage of development of the scientific paradigm.

We use original survey data from Malaysia to explore differences in how traditional and digital media shape the attitudes and behavior of citizens. In closed, and even semi-authoritarian, states such as Malaysia, the Internet, including social media, is often the only place for opposition-centered media to thrive. As a result, consumption of Internet media is related to dissident attitudes. We argue that this relationship, though, is mitigated by trust in the medium. Our results suggest: (1) trust in traditional and Internet media determines the frequency with which citizens use each corresponding medium to gather political information, (2) higher trust in traditional media is positively associated with attitudes about democratic conditions in Malaysia; the opposite is true for trust in Internet media, (3) trust in the traditional media is negatively related, and trust in Internet media is positively related to the inclination to protest, (4) the positive relationship between digital media consumption and this attitude is stronger for those who trust Internet media, and diminished among those who trust traditional media. Background: Alcohol misuse is a major social and public health issue in Australia, with an estimated cost to the community of Aus $30 billion per annum. Until recently, a major barrier in addressing this significant public health issue is the fact that the majority of individuals with alcohol use disorders and alcohol misuse are not receiving treatment.Objective: This study aimed to assess whether alcohol consumption changes are associated with participation in Hello Sunday Morning's blog platform, an online forum discussing experiences in abstaining from alcohol.Methods: The study reports on Hello Sunday Morning participants who signed up for a 3-month period of abstinence from November 2009 to November 2016. The sample comprised 1917 participants (female: 1227/1917, 64.01%; male: 690/1917, 35.99%). Main outcome measures were Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) scores, mood, program engagement metrics, and slip-ups.Results: Individuals who reported hazardous (preprogram AUDIT mean 11.92, SD 2.25) and harmful consumption levels (preprogram AUDIT mean 17.52, SD 1.08) and who engaged in the Hello Sunday Morning program reported a significant decrease in alcohol consumption, moving to lower risk consumption levels (hazardous, mean 7.59, SD 5.70 and harmful, mean 10.38, SD 7.43), 4 months following program commencement (P<.001). Those who reported high-risk or dependent consumption levels experienced the biggest reduction (preprogram mean 25.38, SD 4.20), moving to risky consumption (mean 15.83, SD 11.11), 4 months following program commencement (P<.001). These reductions in risk were maintained by participants in each group, 7 months following program commencement. Furthermore, those who engaged in the program more (as defined by more sign-ins, blogs posted, check-ins completed, and engagement with the community through likes and following) had lower alcohol consumption. Finally, those who experienced more slip-ups had lower alcohol consumption.Conclusions: Participation in an online forum can support long-term behavior change in individuals wishing to change their drinking behavior. Importantly, reductions in AUDIT scores appeared larger for those drinking at high-risk and hazardous levels before program commencement. This has promising implications for future models of alcohol reduction treatment, as online forums are an anonymous, accessible, and cost-effective alternative or adjunct to treatment-as-usual. Further research is needed into the specific mechanisms of change within a Web-based supportive community, as well as the role of specific mood states in predicting risky drinking behavior.
