OBJECTIVE: Real-time continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is effective for diabetes management in cases of type 1 diabetes and adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) but has not been assessed in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with T2D. The objective of this pilot interventional study was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of real-time CGM use in AYAs with T2D. METHODS: Adolescents and young adults (13-21 years old) with T2D for six months or more and hemoglobin A1c (A1c) greater than 7%, on any Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment regimen, were included. After a blinded run-in period, participants were given access to a real-time CGM system for 12 weeks. The use and acceptability of the real-time CGM were evaluated by sensor usage, surveys, and focus group qualitative data. RESULTS: Participants (n = 9) median age was 19.1 (interquartile range [IQR] 16.8-20.5) years, 78% were female, 100% were people of color, and 67% were publicly insured. Baseline A1c was 11.9% (standard deviation ±2.8%), with median diabetes duration of 2.5 (IQR 1.4-6) years, and 67% were using insulin. Seven participants completed the study and demonstrated statistically significant improvement in diabetes-related quality of life, with the mean Pediatric Quality of Life inventory (PedsQL) diabetes score increasing from 70 to 75 after using CGM (P = .026). Focus group results supported survey results that CGM use among AYAs with T2D is feasible, can improve quality of life, and has the potential to modify behavior. CONCLUSION: Real-time CGM is feasible and acceptable for AYAs with T2D and may improve the quality of life of patients with diabetes. Larger randomized controlled trials are needed to assess the effects on glycemic control and healthy lifestyle changes.

Background: Studies have shown apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype disclosure to be safe and well-tolerated in cognitively unimpaired (CU) older adults. This study aimed to examine the effect of the disclosure process on decisions about future directives and health behaviors in community-dwelling CU older adults from the Butler Alzheimer's Prevention Registry (BAPR). Methods: CU APOE E4 non-carriers (n = 106) and carriers (n = 80) aged 58-78 completed in-person psychological readiness screening to undergo APOE disclosure. Follow-up assessments were completed online 3 days, 6 weeks, and 6 months post-disclosure. The primary outcomes were future directives, dietary habits, and physical activity scores. Results: Disclosure was associated with decision making on future directives in E4 carriers (t = 3.59, P =.01) at 6 months compared to baseline, but not non-carriers. Family history of memory impairment, SCD endorsement, and education consistently predicted scores on future directives. A significant interaction between E4+ and SCD endorsement on future directive scores was noted (OR = 163.06, 9.5-2,799.8). E4 + carrier status was associated with physical activity (W = 60,148, P =.005) but not dietary habits scores. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that disclosure led to a change in future directives but not protective health behaviors, specifically in E4 carriers. Future work will explore whether pairing disclosure with education about the role of lifestyle factors in AD risk and providing guidelines on making risk-lowering lifestyle modifications as an intervention approach leads to positive change. Purpose: Early detection of lifestyle factors, skin and hair color, circulating parameters, and metabolic comorbidities is crucial for personalized prevention and treatment of early age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This study aimed to assess the relationships between genetically predicted comprehensive risk factors and early AMD. Methods and results: Publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) data were utilized to identify genetic variants significantly associated with each trait. We applied a Bonferroni-corrected significance level of P < 0.0017. P values between 0.0017 and 0.05 were considered suggestive associations. Univariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses revealed that elevated serum HDL-C, lower serum TG, and decreased three circulating fatty acids levels were robust indicators of an increased risk of early AMD (all P < 0.0017), with odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of 1.218 (1.140–1.303), 0.784 (0.734–0.837), 0.772 (0.698–0.855), 0.776 (0.706–0.852), and 0.877 (0.798–0.963), respectively. Additionally, the "never eat wheat products", "age started wearing glasses", and "skin color" were significantly associated with the risk of early AMD (both P < 0.0017), with ORs (95% CIs) of 23.853 (2.731–208.323), 1.605 (1.269–2.030) and 1.190 (1.076–1.317), respectively. Multivariable MR analysis confirmed that elevated serum HDL-C (OR = 1.187, 1.064–1.324) increased the risk of early AMD, while higher serum TG (OR = 0.838, 0.738–0.950) was associated with a significantly lower risk. Furthermore, validation results indicated that serum HDL-C 1.201 (1.101–1.310) and TG 0.795 (0.732–0.864) were significantly associated with the risk of early AMD. There were suggestive associations of smoothies, chronotype, and hair color (0.0017 < P < 0.05), but sun/UV protection, smoking, BMI, diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, fresh fruit intake, fish oil/cod liver oil supplement, sleeplessness, serum C-reactive protein level, and iron level were not associated with the risk of early AMD. Conclusions: Our comprehensive MR analysis demonstrated that elevated circulating HDL-C levels increase the risk of early AMD, while TG and fatty acid levels are associated with a decreased risk. Background: Episodic memory naturally deteriorates with age, and its deficits are widely recognized as the most significant feature and the most sensitive indicator of cognitive decline. It has been suggested that adopting a healthy lifestyle can play a protective role in preserving episodic memory. This study aimed to systematically examine the relationship between lifestyle factors (social activities, leisure activities, physical activities, internet use, smoking, alcohol drinking, and sleep quality) and episodic memory in middle-aged and older adults. Methods: The current study included 10,392 participants from the Chinese Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey. A linear mixed model was used to explore the associations between lifestyle factors and episodic memory performance and the age- and sex-specific effects of the association. Results: Low-frequency alcohol drinking, higher engagement in social, leisure, and physical activities, increased internet use, and improved sleep quality were associated with better episodic memory performance in middle-aged and older adults. Stratified analyses demonstrated that internet use significantly correlated with episodic memory performance in middle-aged adults but not in older adults. On the other hand, sleep quality showed a significant association with episodic memory performance in women but not in men. Conclusions: This study highlights the association between various lifestyle factors and episodic memory performance, with variations observed based on age and sex. Adopting healthy lifestyle factors can have positive effects on episodic memory in middle-aged adults, emphasizing the importance of adhering to healthy lifestyles from middle age onwards to counteract episodic memory decline. Background: Endometrial carcinoma (EC) remain a malignancy with incompletely understood risk factors. To address this knowledge gap, we employed mendelian randomization study to investigate potential protective and risk elements associated with endometrial cancer. Methods: We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study using genetic association data for overall EC and its subtypes from a large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS). This GWAS encompassed 12,906 EC patients and 108,979 healthy controls. The EC cases were further categorized into 8758 endometrioid and 1230 non-endometrioid subtypes. To serve as instrumental variables, we identified independent genetic variants strongly associated with 5 lifestyle factors and 14 metabolic factors from relevant GWASs. Subsequently, we conducted univariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. Results: Our study revealed the relationship among EC with lifetime smoking index (OR: 1.43; 95% CI 1.05–1.96), frequency of alcohol consumption (OR:1.23; 95% CI 1.04–1.45), body mass index (BMI) (OR:1.82; 95% CI 1.64–2.01), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (OR:1.06; 95% CI 1.00–1.12), and fasting insulin (OR:1.97; 95% CI 1.30–2.98). Conversely, inverse associations with EC were observed for education level (OR:0.72, 95% CI 0.62–0.83), moderate-level physical exercise (OR 0.35, 95% CI 0.15–0.84), and low-density lipoproteins (LDL) (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.84–0.99). Conclusions: Our findings underscore a causal association between genetically predicted lifetime smoking index, alcohol intake frequency, BMI, T2DM, and fasting insulin with EC risk. Furthermore, our study highlights the potential protective effects of a high education level, moderate-intensity physical exercise, and LDL reduction against EC risk. AbstractThis research intends to recognize antecedents of Xenocentrism and explore xenocentrism’s influence on brand preferences among Millennials. The study’s antecedents, identified through extant literature, are cultural openness, social factors, and lifestyle dimensions. The study focuses on an experimental research design and covers a sample of 250 respondents. The sampling frame for the survey is millennials of India. Exploratory factor analysis was adopted to identify the factors appropriate for the research. The regression result was adopted to explore the impact of moderating variable ‘demography’, ‘duration_of_stay in a foreign land’, between xenocentric tendency and brand preference. The ‘duration_of_stay in foreign land’ moderates the association between xenocentric tendency and consumers’ brand preferences. Thus, the acknowledged antecedents of Xenocentricity/Xenocentrism can support international marketing practitioners in formulating consumer decisions for definite target segments. Background: In this prospective study, we aimed to examine the association between ultra-processed foods and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and to evaluate the effect of lifestyle and socioeconomic factors on this association. Methods: This study included 1766 adults (aged 18 to 78, 54.3% women), who took part in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose study. The Short-Form 12-Item Health Survey version 2 was used to determine HRQoL, which includes the physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) scores. Ultra-processed food consumption was assessed using a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Lifestyle (physical activity and smoking status) and socioeconomic factors (education level and employment status) were also determined. General linear models (GLM) were applied to estimate the mean (95% confidence interval) for MCS and PCS scores across the ultra-processed foods tertiles. Additionally, the effect of lifestyle and socioeconomic factors on the relationship between ultra-processed foods and HRQoL was examined using GLM. Results: The median consumption of ultra-processed foods was 11.9% (IQR: 8.2 to 16.8) of total energy intake. There was a significant inverse association between ultra-processed foods consumption and PCS, but not MCS, after adjustment for confounding factors. Significant interactions were observed between ultra-processed food consumption, sex, and occupation on PCS score (all P values < 0.001). The interaction test tended to be significant for smoking status, education levels, and physical activity levels. As ultra-processed food consumption increased, the PCS score significantly decreased in women (P = 0.043), low physical active subjects (P = 0.014), smokers (P = 0.015), and lower-educated individuals (P = 0.022). Non-employed individuals with higher ultra-processed food intake showed a decline in their PCS and MCS scores. While there was no significant difference in MCS score among different strata of lifestyle and socioeconomic status across tertiles of ultra-processed foods. Conclusions: Higher intake of ultra-processed foods was associated with poorer physical health, particularly among women, those with unhealthy lifestyles, and low socioeconomic conditions. Background: Cognitive impairment is a clinical manifestation that occurs in the course of dementia like Alzheimer's disease. The association between cognitive impairment and gut microbiota is unclear. Objective: We aimed to identify gut microbiota characteristics and key gut microbiota biomarkers associated with cognitive impairment in a relatively large cohort of older adults in China. Methods: A total of 229 adults aged ≥60 years from Shenzhen, China were recruited into this cross-sectional study. Participants were divided into cognitive impairment (CI) and no cognitive impairment (NCI) groups according to the results of the Mini-Mental State Examination. Diversity analysis and network analysis were used to characterize the gut microbiota between the two groups. The linear discriminant analysis effect size method and machine learning approaches were sequentially performed to identify gut microbiota biomarkers. The relationship between biomarkers and lifestyle factors was explored using Transformation-based redundancy analysis (tb-RDA). Results: A total of 74 CI participants and 131 NCI participants were included in the analysis. The CI group demonstrated lower α-diversity compared to the NCI group (Shannon: 2.798 versus 3.152, p < 0.001). The density of the gut microbiota interaction network was lower in the CI group (0.074) compared to the NCI group (0.081). Megamonas, Blautia, Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, and Veillonella were key biomarkers for CI. The tb-RDA revealed that increased fruit intake and exercise contribute to a higher abundance of Megamonas, Blautia, and Veillonella. Background/objectives: Gestational Weight Gain (GWG) impacts maternal and fetal health; deviations from optimal ranges pose health risks. Maternal lifestyle before and during pregnancy strongly influences GWG. This study explores factors linked to inadequate GWG, focusing on Mediterranean Diet (MD) adherence and specific food consumption. Subjects/methods: 178 pregnant women were enrolled at Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo (Pavia) during pre-hospital care before birth meeting inclusion/exclusion criteria. Sociodemographic data, pre-pregnancy BMI, GWG, MD adherence, physical activity (PA) levels, and smoking habits were retrospectively collected. Validated questionnaires adapted for the target group, assessed MD adherence and PA level. Participants were classified into adequate (AGWG) and inadequate GWG groups following IOM guidelines. Results: Among 200 pregnant women (aged 30–36), 37.1% experienced low GWG and 24.1% excessive GWG. Our study revealed a significant association between inadequate GWG and educational level (P = 0.011); pre-pregnancy BMI (P = 0.005); MD adherence (P = 0.008), and daily average consumption of vegetables (P < 0.001). Our results also showed that a lower risk of EGWG vs. AGWG was associated with daily average consumption of vegetables (RRR = 0.279, P = 0.004), while a higher risk of EGWG vs. AGWG was associated with high daily meat product consumption (> 1.5 portions/day) (RRR = 7.83, P = 0.03). Conclusion. These findings emphasize the importance of promoting lifestyle changes before and during pregnancy to tackle the increasing incidence of inadequate GWG and improve the health outcomes of both mother and child. Objectives This study investigated the association between eating habits and the utilization of dietary supplements (DSs) according to food-related lifestyle (FRL) among Korean adults. Methods This study included a total of 300 participants (150 men and 150 women) in their 20s to 60s living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. We identified two groups by factor and cluster analysis: an ‘active pursuit’ group and a ‘passive pursuit’ group. Differences in eating habits and DS utilization between the two groups were analyzed by chi-square test and t-test. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the effect of variables on DS consumption according to FRL. Results There were significant differences between the two groups in terms of age, alcohol drinking frequency, total dietary score, change in DS consumption after coronavirus disease 2019, and current DS consumption (P < 0.05). The proportion who perceived many health benefits of DSs was higher in the ‘active pursuit’ group than in the ‘passive pursuit’ group (P = 0.003). The most commonly consumed type of DSs was multivitamins & minerals for the ‘active pursuit’ group, and omega-3 fatty acids for the ‘passive pursuit’ group. The ‘an active pursuit’ group consumed DSs 2.93 times more (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.44–5.97) compared to the ‘passive pursuit’ group, after adjusting for confounders. In the ‘active pursuit’ group, the health pursuit (odds ratio [OR] = 6.54, 95% CI: 1.44–29.61) and rational consumption pursuit factors (OR = 0.26, 95% CI: 0.08–0.83) were associated with DS consumption, whereas only the health pursuit factor had a significant association (OR = 5.37, 95% CI: 2.08–13.88) within the ‘passive pursuit’ group. However, total dietary score and DSs consumption did not show a relationship. Conclusions By understanding the consumption characteristics of DSs according to FRL, this can serve as basic data necessary for promoting health through the utilization of DSs and healthy behaviors.

Abstract Hypertension is a very common comorbidity in type 2 diabetes patients, which leads to important health and treatment challenges. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the prevalence of hypertension and its risk factors in type 2 diabetes patients. This study was conducted using cross-sectional data from 1245 participants aged between 35 and 70 years and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at baseline in the Fasa cohort study. The prevalence hypertension was determined and multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between various risk factors and hypertension prevalence. The average age of the participants was 53.5 ± 8.7 years and 71.7% (n = 893) were female and 28.3% (n = 352) were male. The prevalence of hypertension in people with type 2 diabetes was 45.5% (n = 566). Higher age (AOR, 95% CI: 8.1, 4.6–14.3), female gender (OR, 95% CI: 1.8, 1.2–2.5), Fars (AOR, 95% CI: 1.6, 1.1–2.4) and Turk (AOR, 95% CI: 1.6, 1.1–2.5) vs. other ethnicity, and overweight (AOR, 95% CI: 1.8, 1.38–2.38) and obesity (AOR, 95% CI: 2.7, 2.0–3.8) vs. BMI

Abstract Background Cardiometabolic diseases are a major global health concern. This study aims to identify areas for targeted interventions and investigate the impact of socioeconomic status and lifestyle as a potential mediator in the context of the US. Methods Our study analyzed data from the Health Information National Trends Survey 5, a nationwide survey by the National Cancer Institute. Using standardized scales and questions, we examined cardiometabolic disease outcomes, lifestyle factors, and socioeconomic status of non-institutionalized civilians aged 18 + in the US. We analyzed the data using structural equation modelling. Results Our findings show that socioeconomic status and lifestyle significantly predict cardiometabolic disease outcomes. However, our analysis did not support lifestyle as the primary mediating factor in the association between socioeconomic status and cardiometabolic diseases, suggesting that other factors may significantly influence this relationship. Conclusions Cardiometabolic diseases require lifestyle and structural interventions addressing socioeconomic factors. Policymakers must consider multifaceted factors to prevent, detect, and manage these diseases effectively and equitably.

Abstract Ethiopia faces a significant challenge with increasing non-communicable diseases like diabetes, ranking among the top four in sub-Saharan Africa. However, there is a lack of research on how lifestyle affects chronic complications of diabetes in Ethiopia, highlighting the need for urgent exploration to develop better intervention strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the link between lifestyle factors and chronic complications of diabetes in public health hospitals in Southwest Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study involving 389 diabetes patients from Mizan-Tepi University Teaching Hospital (MTUTH) and Gebretsadik Shawo General Hospital (GSGH) in Southwest Ethiopia was conducted. Data collection methods included interviewer-administered questionnaires, patient medical record reviews, physical examination, and serum analysis. SPSS version 25 was used for data analysis, including descriptive statistics and bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Statistical significance was determined at a p-value 60 years [AOR = 2.18; 95% CI 1.20, 4.33]), duration of diabetes mellitus (> 6 years [AOR = 2.90; 95% CI 1.74, 4.85]), alcohol consumption [AOR = 2.30; 95% CI 1.33, 3.98], physical inactivity [AOR = 2.43; 95% CI 1.38, 4.27], and body mass index (underweight [AOR = 7.66; 95% CI 1.68, 34.8] and obese [AOR = 3.53; 95% CI 1.84, 10.5]) were significantly associated with chronic complications of diabetes. Chronic complications of diabetes are a major problem in the study area. Lifestyle factors strongly influence chronic diabetes complications, highlighting the importance of preventive measures. Implementing health education and prevention programs focusing on modifiable lifestyle factors is crucial.

Abstract Background Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common condition characterized by the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus. Despite its widespread prevalence worldwide, the causal link between GERD and various cancer risks has not been fully established, and past medical research has often underestimated or overlooked this relationship. Methods This study performed Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between GERD and 19 different cancers. We leveraged data from 129,080 GERD patients and 473,524 controls, along with cancer-related data, obtained from the UK Biobank and various Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) consortia. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with GERD were used as instrumental variables, utilizing methods such as inverse variance weighting, weighted median, and MR-Egger to address potential pleiotropy and confounding factors. Results GERD was significantly associated with higher risks of nine types of cancer. Even after adjusting for all known risk factors—including smoking, alcohol consumption, major depression, and body mass index (BMI)—these associations remained significant, with higher risks for most cancers. For example, the adjusted risk for overall lung cancer was (OR, 1.23; 95% CI: 1.14–1.33), for lung adenocarcinoma was (OR, 1.18; 95% CI: 1.03–1.36), for lung squamous cell carcinoma was (OR, 1.35; 95% CI: 1.19–1.53), and for oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer was (OR, 1.73; 95% CI: 1.22–2.44). Especially noteworthy, the risk for esophageal cancer increased to (OR, 2.57; 95% CI: 1.23–5.37). Mediation analyses further highlighted GERD as a significant mediator in the relationships between BMI, smoking, major depression, and cancer risks. Conclusions This study identifies a significant causal relationship between GERD and increased cancer risk, highlighting its role in cancer development and underscoring the necessity of incorporating GERD management into cancer prevention strategies.

Abstract Background In this prospective study, we aimed to examine the association between ultra-processed foods and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and to evaluate the effect of lifestyle and socioeconomic factors on this association. Methods This study included 1766 adults (aged 18 to 78, 54.3% women), who took part in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose study. The Short-Form 12-Item Health Survey version 2 was used to determine HRQoL, which includes the physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) scores. Ultra-processed food consumption was assessed using a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Lifestyle (physical activity and smoking status) and socioeconomic factors (education level and employment status) were also determined. General linear models (GLM) were applied to estimate the mean (95% confidence interval) for MCS and PCS scores across the ultra-processed foods tertiles. Additionally, the effect of lifestyle and socioeconomic factors on the relationship between ultra-processed foods and HRQoL was examined using GLM. Results The median consumption of ultra-processed foods was 11.9% (IQR: 8.2 to 16.8) of total energy intake. Abstract Asthma, influenced by genetic, environmental, and social factors is leading to poor outcomes and preventable mortality due to inadequate care and limited access to effective treatments. This study aimed to analyze self-reported asthma prevalence in Turkey, focusing on its determinants, such as individual factors, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, and healthcare access. This study conducts a secondary analysis of the 2019 Turkiye Health Survey (THS), employing a nationally representative cross-sectional design by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The sampling utilized a stratified, two-stage cluster sampling method, with data from 16,976 adults (aged 15 years and older) analyzed for asthma determinants. The independent variables are categorized into four domains: individual factors, lifestyle assessment, socioeconomic factors, and access to the healthcare services. The prevalence of asthma is 9.8%, varying significantly across demographics. Higher asthma rates are observed among older, divorced/widowed individuals, those with communication difficulties, and obese individuals. Cost-related unmet healthcare needs and appointment scheduling delays increase asthma risk. Logistic regression models identified age, marital status, obesity, education level, and healthcare access as significant predictors of asthma. This study underscores the multifaceted determinants of asthma in Turkey, highlighting the necessity for targeted interventions addressing individual, lifestyle, socioeconomic, and healthcare access factors.

Abstract The healthy lifestyle index (HLI), defined as the unweighted sum of individual lifestyle components, was used to investigate the combined role of lifestyle factors on health-related outcomes. We introduced weighted outcome-specific versions of the HLI, where individual lifestyle components were weighted according to their associations with disease outcomes. Within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), we examined the association between the standard and the outcome-specific HLIs and the risk of T2D, CVD, cancer, and all-cause premature mortality. Estimates of the hazard ratios (HRs), the Harrell’s C-index and the population attributable fractions (PAFs) were compared. For T2D, the HR for 1-SD increase of the standard and T2D-specific HLI were 0.66 (95% CI: 0.64, 0.67) and 0.43 (0.42, 0.44), respectively, and the C-index were 0.63 (0.62, 0.64) and 0.72 (0.72, 0.73). Similar, yet less pronounced differences in HR and C-index were observed for standard and outcome-specific estimates for cancer, CVD and all-cause mortality. PAF estimates for mortality before age 80 were 57% (55%, 58%) and 33% (32%, 34%) for standard and mortality-specific HLI, respectively. The use of outcome-specific HLI could improve the assessment of the role of lifestyle factors on disease outcomes, thus enhancing the definition of public health recommendations.

Abstract Background Early detection of colorectal neoplasms can reduce the colorectal cancer (CRC) burden by timely intervention for high-risk individuals. However, effective risk prediction models are lacking for personalized CRC early screening in East Asian (EAS) population. We aimed to develop, validate, and optimize a comprehensive risk prediction model across all stages of the dynamic adenoma-carcinoma sequence in EAS population. Methods To develop precision risk-stratification and intervention strategies, we developed three trans-ancestry PRSs targeting colorectal neoplasms: (1) using 148 previously identified CRC risk loci (PRS148); (2) SNPs selection from large-scale meta-analysis data by clumping and thresholding (PRS183); (3) PRS-CSx, a Bayesian approach for genome-wide risk prediction (PRSGenomewide). Then, the performance of each PRS was assessed and validated in two independent cross-sectional screening sets, including 4600 patients with advanced colorectal neoplasm, 4495 patients with non-advanced adenoma, and 21,199 normal individuals from the ZJCRC (Zhejiang colorectal cancer set; EAS) and PLCO (the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial; European, EUR) studies. The optimal PRS was further incorporated with lifestyle factors to stratify individual risk and ultimately tested in the PLCO and UK Biobank prospective cohorts, totaling 350,013 participants. Results Three trans-ancestry PRSs achieved moderately improved predictive performance in EAS compared to EUR populations. Remarkably, the PRSs effectively facilitated a thorough risk assessment across all stages of the dynamic adenoma-carcinoma sequence. Among these models, PRS183 demonstrated the optimal discriminatory ability in both EAS and EUR validation datasets, particularly for individuals at risk of colorectal neoplasms. Using two large-scale and independent prospective cohorts, we further confirmed a significant dose–response effect of PRS183 on incident colorectal neoplasms. Incorporating PRS183 with lifestyle factors into a comprehensive strategy improves risk stratification and discriminatory accuracy compared to using PRS or lifestyle factors separately. This comprehensive risk-stratified model shows potential in addressing missed diagnoses in screening tests (best NPV = 0.93), while moderately reducing unnecessary screening (best PPV = 0.32). Conclusions Our comprehensive risk-stratified model in population-based CRC screening trials represents a promising advancement in personalized risk assessment, facilitating tailored CRC screening in the EAS population. AbstractObjective: Modifiable lifestyle factors evidence great promise in reducing cognitive decline in older adults. Greater consumption to the MIND diet (Morris et al.) and increased daily physical activity (Buchman et al.) are associated with higher cognitive functioning. The interactive effects of lifestyle factors on cognition in older adults has not been investigated extensively. The present study examined the interaction between MIND diet consumption and intensity of physical activity on cognition in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: The sample included 215 older adults (159 female, Mage=79.8; Medu=15.5) from the Memory and Aging Project (Bennet et al.). The measures included the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ, MIND diet consumption), a portable actigraph worn 24 h a day for ten days (activity intensity), and a neuropsychological battery (cognitive variables). Results: Controlling for age and education, multiple regression analyses revealed that MIND diet consumption significantly predicted global cognition (ps< .05). Physical activity significantly predicted global cognition (ps< .05), and processing speed (ps< .01). Interaction effects were significant in global cognition (ps< .05), and episodic memory (ps< .01) revealing a pattern that those with the lowest MIND diet consumption may experience greater cognitive benefits from physical activity in than those with higher diet consumption. Conclusions: Findings suggest that older adults who do not consume the MIND diet closely may experience greater benefit in cognitive functioning from exercise than individuals who more greatly consume the diet. Hypertension is a very common comorbidity in type 2 diabetes patients, which leads to important health and treatment challenges. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the prevalence of hypertension and its risk factors in type 2 diabetes patients. This study was conducted using cross-sectional data from 1245 participants aged between 35 and 70 years and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at baseline in the Fasa cohort study. The prevalence hypertension was determined and multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between various risk factors and hypertension prevalence. The average age of the participants was 53.5 ± 8.7 years and 71.7% (n = 893) were female and 28.3% (n = 352) were male. The prevalence of hypertension in people with type 2 diabetes was 45.5% (n = 566). Higher age (AOR, 95% CI: 8.1, 4.6–14.3), female gender (OR, 95% CI: 1.8, 1.2–2.5), Fars (AOR, 95% CI: 1.6, 1.1–2.4) and Turk (AOR, 95% CI: 1.6, 1.1–2.5) vs. other ethnicity, and overweight (AOR, 95% CI: 1.8, 1.38–2.38) and obesity (AOR, 95% CI: 2.7, 2.0–3.8) vs. BMI < 25 was associated with a higher prevalence of hypertension, while higher physical activity (AOR, 95% CI: 0.57, 0.42–0.78) was associated with lower prevalence of hypertension in the multivariable model. The prevalence of hypertension in persons with type 2 diabetes was high and increased with greater age, in some ethnic groups, and with higher BMI and low physical activity. Background: Cardiometabolic diseases are a major global health concern. This study aims to identify areas for targeted interventions and investigate the impact of socioeconomic status and lifestyle as a potential mediator in the context of the US. Methods: Our study analyzed data from the Health Information National Trends Survey 5, a nationwide survey by the National Cancer Institute. Using standardized scales and questions, we examined cardiometabolic disease outcomes, lifestyle factors, and socioeconomic status of non-institutionalized civilians aged 18 + in the US. We analyzed the data using structural equation modelling. Results: Our findings show that socioeconomic status and lifestyle significantly predict cardiometabolic disease outcomes. However, our analysis did not support lifestyle as the primary mediating factor in the association between socioeconomic status and cardiometabolic diseases, suggesting that other factors may significantly influence this relationship. Conclusions: Cardiometabolic diseases require lifestyle and structural interventions addressing socioeconomic factors. Ethiopia faces a significant challenge with increasing non-communicable diseases like diabetes, ranking among the top four in sub-Saharan Africa. However, there is a lack of research on how lifestyle affects chronic complications of diabetes in Ethiopia, highlighting the need for urgent exploration to develop better intervention strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the link between lifestyle factors and chronic complications of diabetes in public health hospitals in Southwest Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study involving 389 diabetes patients from Mizan-Tepi University Teaching Hospital (MTUTH) and Gebretsadik Shawo General Hospital (GSGH) in Southwest Ethiopia was conducted. Data collection methods included interviewer-administered questionnaires, patient medical record reviews, physical examination, and serum analysis. SPSS version 25 was used for data analysis, including descriptive statistics and bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Statistical significance was determined at a p-value < 0.05. The study revealed a 32.1% prevalence of chronic complications of diabetes, with 13.4% having chronic kidney disease, 8.0% experiencing visual disturbances, and 16.7% suffering from peripheral sensory pain. After adjusting for confounding variables, age (41–60 years [AOR = 1.77; 95% CI 1.01, 3.15] and > 60 years [AOR = 2.18; 95% CI 1.20, 4.33]), duration of diabetes mellitus (> 6 years [AOR = 2.90; 95% CI 1.74, 4.85]), alcohol consumption [AOR = 2.30; 95% CI 1.33, 3.98], physical inactivity [AOR = 2.43; 95% CI 1.38, 4.27], and body mass index (underweight [AOR = 7.66; 95% CI 1.68, 34.8] and obese [AOR = 3.53; 95% CI 1.84, 10.5]) were significantly associated with chronic complications of diabetes. Chronic complications of diabetes are a major problem in the study area. Lifestyle factors strongly influence chronic diabetes complications, highlighting the importance of preventive measures. Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common condition characterized by the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus. Despite its widespread prevalence worldwide, the causal link between GERD and various cancer risks has not been fully established, and past medical research has often underestimated or overlooked this relationship. Methods: This study performed Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between GERD and 19 different cancers. We leveraged data from 129,080 GERD patients and 473,524 controls, along with cancer-related data, obtained from the UK Biobank and various Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) consortia. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with GERD were used as instrumental variables, utilizing methods such as inverse variance weighting, weighted median, and MR-Egger to address potential pleiotropy and confounding factors. Results: GERD was significantly associated with higher risks of nine types of cancer. Even after adjusting for all known risk factors—including smoking, alcohol consumption, major depression, and body mass index (BMI)—these associations remained significant, with higher risks for most cancers. For example, the adjusted risk for overall lung cancer was (OR, 1.23; 95% CI: 1.14–1.33), for lung adenocarcinoma was (OR, 1.18; 95% CI: 1.03–1.36), for lung squamous cell carcinoma was (OR, 1.35; 95% CI: 1.19–1.53), and for oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer was (OR, 1.73; 95% CI: 1.22–2.44). Especially noteworthy, the risk for esophageal cancer increased to (OR, 2.57; 95% CI: 1.23–5.37). Mediation analyses further highlighted GERD as a significant mediator in the relationships between BMI, smoking, major depression, and cancer risks. Conclusions: This study identifies a significant causal relationship between GERD and increased cancer risk, highlighting its role in cancer development and underscoring the necessity of incorporating GERD management into cancer prevention strategies. The microbiome's role in ulcerative colitis pathogenesis is established. The influence of lifestyle on gut microbiome composition remains unclear, and interplay with COVID-19 disease warrants investigation. In a cross-sectional study conducted from June to December 2021, 49 outpatients from Rīga East Clinical University Hospital were included. Patients were categorised based on COVID-19 disease status (positive vs. negative) within the preceding six months. Lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, stress levels, and dietary patterns) were assessed and evaluated. Taxonomic classification of gut microbiome metagenome data was performed using MetaPhlAn v.2.6.0, with subsequent analysis conducted using SPSS 20.0. Thirty-one (63%) were male, and 18 (37%) were female patients. Fourteen patients (28.6%) tested positive for COVID-19. Gut microbiome composition differences were not observed between COVID-19 disease groups. Twenty-four (49%) patients engaged in sports activities and 30 (61.2%) patients reported a history of smoking. No significant microbiome differences were observed in groups regarding physical activity or smoking. Thirty-five (71.4%) were alcohol users, for whom Firmicutes abundance was significantly higher compared to non-users, p = 0.041. Patients reporting lower stress levels (18, 36.7%) exhibited higher Actinobacteria abundance compared to those with higher stress levels (31, 63.3%), p = 0.03. Introduction and Hypothesis: Identifying the factors influencing the development of female urinary incontinence (UI) may facilitate early intervention, potentially delaying its progression. This study was aimed at investigating the impact of lifestyle habits on the severity of UI among women in East China. Methods: This study included 414 women from six communities in East China who reported symptoms of UI and was conducted between September and December 2020. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the Toileting Behaviours: Women's Elimination Behaviours scale, and the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence Short Form Chinese Version. Participants were categorised into two groups: those with mild UI and those with moderate-to-severe UI. Propensity-score matching was performed to balance confounding factors, and logistic regression was used to explore the relationship between lifestyle behaviours and UI severity. Results: A total of 117 pairs were successfully matched. Logistic regression analysis revealed that daily perineal cleaning significantly protected against moderate-to-severe UI (p < 0.05). Conversely, living alone, poor sleep quality and hovering over the toilet while voiding were identified as independent risk factors for moderate-to-severe UI (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Several lifestyle habits significantly impact the severity of UI among adult women. Screening for mild urinary leakage symptoms and implementing timely interventions are crucial for preventing the aggravation of UI and improving ability to work and quality of life. Summary: Background: Lifestyle factors play an important role in the development and management of childhood obesity and its related cardiometabolic complications. Objective/Methods: We aimed to explore childhood obesity subtypes based on lifestyle factors and examine their association with cardiometabolic health. We included 1550 children with obesity from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Cluster analysis identified obesity subtypes based on four lifestyle factors (physical activity, diet quality, sedentary time and smoking). Multiple linear regression assessed their association with cardiometabolic factors. Results: Five subtypes of childhood obesity were identified: unhealthy subtype (n = 571; 36.8%), physically active subtype (n = 185; 21.1%), healthy diet subtype (n = 404; 26.1%), smoking subtype (n = 125; 8.1%) and non‐sedentary subtype (n = 265; 17.1%). Compared with the unhealthy subtype, the physically active subtype had lower insulin and HOMA‐IR levels, and smoking subtype was associated with lower HDL levels. When compared with children with normal weight, all obesity subtypes had worse cardiometabolic profile, except the physically active subtype who had similar DBP, HbA1c and TC levels; smoking subtype who had similar TC levels; and healthy diet and non‐sedentary subtypes who had similar DBP levels. Conclusion: Children of different lifestyle‐based obesity subtypes might have different cardiometabolic risks. Our new classification system might help personalize assessment of childhood obesity. A challenge associated with driving vehicles can be navigating to destinations. While driving experience would seem beneficial for improving navigation skill, it remains unclear how driving experience relates to wayfinding ability. Using the mobile video game-based wayfinding task Sea Hero Quest, which is predictive of real-world navigation, we measured wayfinding ability in US-based participants (n = 694, mean age = 26.8 years). We also asked travel-related self-report questions, including those relating to driving experience. A multiple linear regression model found that those who started driving solo below aged 18 had significantly better wayfinding ability than those starting to drive solo aged 18 and above. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sleep disorder among adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the lifestyle factors and sleep disturbances associated with the symptoms suggestive of RLS in Korean adolescents. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated a total of 25,789 adolescents (mean age, 15.8 ± 1.7 years; male, 48.5 %). The presence of symptoms suggestive of RLS was assessed with a single question about RLS in the Global Sleep Assessment Questionnaire. We performed multiple logistic regression analysis to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) of lifestyle factors and sleep disturbances that were independently associated with adolescent RLS. The prevalence of RLS-suggestive symptoms was 5.1 % among adolescents. After adjustment, lifestyle factors associated with symptoms suggestive of RLS were occasional alcohol consumption (OR, 1.245; 95 % CI, 1.006–1.540) and proneness to Internet addiction (OR, 1.027; 95 % CI, 1.021–1.033). Bedtime behaviors associated with RLS-suggestive symptoms were sleeping with a doll or pet (OR, 1.194; 95 % CI, 1.032–1.381) and sleeping with a TV or radio on (OR, 1.366; 95 % CI, 1.156–1.614). Male sex, frequent snoring and witnessed apnea, perceived sleep insufficiency, excessive daytime sleepiness were also associated with RLS-suggestive symptoms in adolescents. Adolescents with symptoms suggestive of RLS were associated with different lifestyle factors compared to adults with RLS. Nutrition and lifestyle factors have an enormous impact on students' academic performance. However, there is a shortage of machine learning models to predict students' academic performance based on their nutrition and lifestyle. This paper intends to fill those gaps based on an extensive dataset of various attributes, underlining the capabilities of advanced machine learning models in uncovering the complex relationship between nutrition, lifestyle factors and student's academic performance. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Kalar Technical College, Garmian Polytechnic University in Kurdistan region - Iraq, that involved 500 undergraduate students whose ages range from 18 to 22 years old; the dataset contains demographic characteristics, dietary intake, physical activity, and anthropometric measurements. Various Techniques, tools, and machine learning algorithms such as logistic regression and decision tree classifiers were employed using Python's Scikit-Learn library; finally, Pre-processing of the data was carried out to ensure its suitability for analysis. The machine learning model that the authors developed showed promising prediction results. While the logistic regression model had an accuracy of 70.4%, the decision tree model excelled with an accuracy of 98.55%. Background: Decreased physical activity in modern society, influenced by lifestyle and technology, leads to energy imbalances that impact nutrition, obesity, and body composition issues, which increase the risk of metabolic diseases, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and dyslipidaemia. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship of physical activity to nutritional status and body composition in traditional and modern populations in South Sulawesi. Methods: This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional approach, which examined the relationship between variables in modern and traditional groups. The study was conducted in Tana Toa village and Makassar city from February to November 2022. Each group consisted of 50 adults who met the criteria. Data were collected through IPAQ questionnaire and direct measurement for anthropometric data and body composition. Data were analysed using SPSS version 26. Results: The results showed that the traditional group performed moderate physical activity (56%), while the modern group performed light physical activity (58%) with p <0.001. BMI, waist circumference, fat mass and visceral fat had a negative correlation with physical activity, where subjects with overweight-obese BMI tended to be less active (r= -0.298, p= 0.003), subjects with central obesity, high fat mass and high visceral fat performed more low activities: (r= -0.403, p <0.001) (r= -0.425, p <0.001), (r= -0,335, p= 0.001). Muscle mass had a positive correlation with physical activity where subjects with normal muscle mass were more active (r= 0.356, p <0.001). However, the relationship between physical activity and bone mass was not significant (p = 0.111). Conclusion: Light physical activity found in the modern population compared to traditional population affects nutritional status and body composition which increase body mass index, waist circumference, fat mass and visceral fat. The influence of various risk factors such as aging, intricate cellular molecular processes, and lifestyle factors like smoking, alcohol consumption, caffeine intake, and occupational factors has received increased focus in relation to the risk and development of Parkinson's disease (PD). Limited research has been conducted on the assessment of lifestyle impact on kynurenine 3-monooxygenase (KMO) gene in PD. A total of 164 subjects, including 82 PD cases and 82 healthy individuals, were recruited based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The severity of PD and clinical assessment were evaluated using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Hoehn and Yahr (HY) scaling. Sanger sequencing was performed to analyse the KMO gene in the recruited subjects, and case–control studies were conducted. The UPDRS assessment revealed significant impairments in smell, tremors, walking, and posture instability in the late-onset PD cohorts. This leads to the reduction of the progression of disease in late-onset groups which shows that this mutation may lead to the protective effect on the PD subjects. This study suggests the use of KYNA and 3-HK as potential biomarkers in analysing the progression of disease. This study is limited by its small sample size. To overcome this limitation, a larger study involving in greater number of participants is needed to thoroughly investigate the KMO gene and KP metabolites, to enhance our understanding of Parkinson's disease progression, and to enhance diagnostic capabilities. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a chronic disease, which often develops in older people, but this is not the rule. AMD pathogenesis changes include the anatomical and functional complex. As a result of damage, it occurs, in the retina and macula, among other areas. These changes may lead to partial or total loss of vision. This disease can occur in two clinical forms, i.e., dry (progression is slowly and gradually) and exudative (wet, progression is acute and severe), which usually started as dry form. A coexistence of both forms is possible. AMD etiology is not fully understood. Extensive genetic studies have shown that this disease is multifactorial and that genetic determinants, along with environmental and metabolic-functional factors, are important risk factors. This article reviews the impact of heavy metals, macro- and microelements, and genetic factors on the development of AMD. We present the current state of knowledge about the influence of environmental factors and genetic determinants on the progression of AMD in the confrontation with our own research conducted on the Polish population from Kuyavian-Pomeranian and Lubusz Regions. Our research is concentrated on showing how polluted environments of large agglomerations affects the development of AMD. In addition to confirming heavy metal accumulation, the growth of risk of acute phase factors and polymorphism in the genetic material in AMD development, it will also help in the detection of new markers of this disease. Background: Early detection of colorectal neoplasms can reduce the colorectal cancer (CRC) burden by timely intervention for high-risk individuals. However, effective risk prediction models are lacking for personalized CRC early screening in East Asian (EAS) population. We aimed to develop, validate, and optimize a comprehensive risk prediction model across all stages of the dynamic adenoma-carcinoma sequence in EAS population. Methods: To develop precision risk-stratification and intervention strategies, we developed three trans-ancestry PRSs targeting colorectal neoplasms: (1) using 148 previously identified CRC risk loci (PRS148); (2) SNPs selection from large-scale meta-analysis data by clumping and thresholding (PRS183); (3) PRS-CSx, a Bayesian approach for genome-wide risk prediction (PRSGenomewide). Then, the performance of each PRS was assessed and validated in two independent cross-sectional screening sets, including 4600 patients with advanced colorectal neoplasm, 4495 patients with non-advanced adenoma, and 21,199 normal individuals from the ZJCRC (Zhejiang colorectal cancer set; EAS) and PLCO (the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial; European, EUR) studies. The optimal PRS was further incorporated with lifestyle factors to stratify individual risk and ultimately tested in the PLCO and UK Biobank prospective cohorts, totaling 350,013 participants. Results: Three trans-ancestry PRSs achieved moderately improved predictive performance in EAS compared to EUR populations. Remarkably, the PRSs effectively facilitated a thorough risk assessment across all stages of the dynamic adenoma-carcinoma sequence. Among these models, PRS183 demonstrated the optimal discriminatory ability in both EAS and EUR validation datasets, particularly for individuals at risk of colorectal neoplasms. Using two large-scale and independent prospective cohorts, we further confirmed a significant dose–response effect of PRS183 on incident colorectal neoplasms. Incorporating PRS183 with lifestyle factors into a comprehensive strategy improves risk stratification and discriminatory accuracy compared to using PRS or lifestyle factors separately. This comprehensive risk-stratified model shows potential in addressing missed diagnoses in screening tests (best NPV = 0.93), while moderately reducing unnecessary screening (best PPV = 0.32). Conclusions: Our comprehensive risk-stratified model in population-based CRC screening trials represents a promising advancement in personalized risk assessment, facilitating tailored CRC screening in the EAS population. Loneliness may exacerbate poor health outcomes particularly among cancer survivors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Little is known about the risk factors of loneliness among cancer survivors. We evaluated the risk factors of loneliness in the context of COVID-19 pandemic-related prevention behaviors and lifestyle/psychosocial factors among cancer survivors. Cancer survivors (n = 1471) seen at Huntsman Cancer Institute completed a survey between August–September 2020 evaluating health behaviors, medical care, and psychosocial factors including loneliness during COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were classified into two groups: 'lonely' (sometimes, usually, or always felt lonely in past month) and 'non-lonely' (never or rarely felt lonely in past month). 33% of cancer survivors reported feeling lonely in the past month. Multivariable logistic regression showed female sex, not living with a spouse/partner, poor health status, COVID-19 pandemic-associated lifestyle factors including increased alcohol consumption and marijuana/CBD oil use, and psychosocial stressors such as disruptions in daily life, less social interaction, and higher perceived stress and financial stress were associated with feeling lonely as compared to being non-lonely (all p < 0.05). A significant proportion of participants reported loneliness, which is a serious health risk among vulnerable populations, particularly cancer survivors. Modifiable risk factors such as unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and psychosocial stress were associated with loneliness. These results highlight the need to screen for unhealthy lifestyle factors and psychosocial stressors to identify cancer survivors at increased risk of loneliness and to develop effective management strategies. Few prospective studies have investigated the joint effect of lifestyle factors and genetic susceptibility on the risk of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This study aims to evaluate the associations of lifestyle and genetic factors with incident IBS in the UK Biobank. We analyzed data from 481,057 participants (54% female) without prevalent IBS at enrollment in the UK Biobank. An overall healthy lifestyle was defined using six modifiable lifestyle factors, including smoking, body mass index (BMI), sleep duration, diet, physical activity, and alcohol consumption, and hence categorized into 'favorable', 'intermediate', and 'unfavorable' lifestyles. A Cox proportional hazard model was used to investigate the association between a healthy lifestyle and incident IBS. Furthermore, we constructed a polygenic risk score (PRS) for IBS and assessed whether lifestyle modified the effect of genetics on the development of IBS. During a median follow-up of 12.1 years, 8645 incident IBS were ascertained. Specifically, among the six modifiable lifestyle factors, adequate sleep demonstrates the greatest protective effect (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.69,0.75) against IBS. Compared with a favorable lifestyle, an unfavorable lifestyle was associated with a 56% (95% CI: 46%–67%) increased risk of IBS (P = 8.99 × 10−40). The risk of incident IBS was 12% (95% CI: 4%–21%) higher among those at high genetic risk compared with those at low genetic risk (P = 0.005). When considering the joint effect of lifestyle and genetic susceptibility, the HR nearly doubled among individuals with high genetic risk and unfavorable lifestyle (HR: 1.80; 95% CI:1.51–2.15; P = 3.50 × 10−11) compared to those with low genetic risk and favorable lifestyle. No multiplicative or addictive interaction was observed between lifestyle and genetics. The findings from this study indicated that lifestyle and genetic factors were independently associated with the risk of incident IBS. Multimorbidity significantly impacts health, well-being, and the economy; therefore, exploring notable factors associated with multimorbidity across all age groups is critical. For this investigation, we focused on the relationship between four lifestyle factors and multimorbidity risk. We recruited 11,031 Chinese citizens aged ≥ 12 years from 31 provinces between July 2021 and September 2021 using a quota sampling strategy to ensure that the socioeconomic characteristics (sex, age, rural–urban distribution) of those participating in this research were representative of national demographics. In the first stage, multivariable logistic regression models were utilized as a means of investigating the relationship between lifestyle factors and multimorbidity. Then, a multinomial logistic regression model was used with the aim of examining the Healthy Lifestyle Profile (HLP) related to the number of chronic diseases. Multivariable logistic regression models assessed the interaction effects and joint association among the four lifestyle factors. Overall, 18% of the participants had at least one disease, and 5.9% had multimorbidity. Approximately two-thirds of the participants were physically inactive, 40% had consumed alcohol, 39% were underweight or overweight, and 20% were or had been smokers. Participants who maintained one HLP showed a 34% lower multimorbidity risk (adjusted OR, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.92), while participants who maintained 4 HLP showed a 73% lower multimorbidity risk (adjusted OR, 0.27; 95% CI, 0.17 to 0.43), as compared to those who had 0 HLP. The joint association analysis revealed that participants with all four healthy lifestyle factors had 0.92 times lower odds of multimorbidity (95% CI: 0.90, 0.94) in comparison with the all-unhealthy reference cluster. Notably, individuals with a combination of healthy smoking status and healthy body weight had the highest minimized odds of multimorbidity (OR: [0.92], 95% CI: 0.91, 0.94). Common lifestyle habits, alone or in combination, are associated with multimorbidity risk. Background and purpose: Many non-neoplastic diseases have been established to be tumorigenic, and cancers are sometimes misdiagnosed as non-neoplastic diseases. We conducted a comprehensive registry-based study of site-specific cancer diagnosis risk following the diagnosis of any preceding medical condition (PMC) encoded by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 classification. Material and methods: We analyzed healthcare data and cancer data for a random population-based sample of 2.5 million individuals living in Finland on January 1, 2000. Hazard ratios for each PMC and cancer pair were estimated using piecewise constant hazard regression models. P-values were corrected for multiple testing with the Bonferroni method. Results: Several lifestyle-related PMCs were associated with the risk of cancer diagnosis, exemplified by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and subsequent lung cancer diagnosis risk (female hazard ratio [HR] = 9.91, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 9.18–19.7, p-adj. < 0.0001; male HR = 5.69, 95% CI: 5.43–5.96, p-adj. < 0.0001). Diagnosis risk of ill-defined cancers appeared to increase following diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We identified rare PMCs of potential interest. Interpretation: A considerable proportion of the statistically significant associations were explainable by tobacco smoking and alcohol use. The enrichment of ill-defined cancer diagnoses in persons with AD, together with the overall inverse association between AD and cancer, may reflect underdiagnosis of cancer in this patient population. Our results provide a useful resource for research on the prevention and early detection of cancer.

Background: Hypertension, a major cause of cardiovascular disease, is increasingly common among urban professionals, including school teachers, who face unique stressors and lifestyle challenges. Understanding these factors is essential for developing targeted health interventions. This study aims to determine the prevalence and key determinants of hypertension among government school teachers in Patna. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from November 2021 to October 2022 with 1321 teachers from 325 urban schools in Patna. The sample size was calculated based on a 45.4% estimated hypertension prevalence, with a 3% margin of error and 20% non-response rate. Teachers were selected using stratified sampling with probability proportional to size. Results: Of the 1283 respondents, 61.34% were male and 38.66% female. Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading global health concern. Emerging evidence suggests a potential protective role of well‐being in reducing CVD risk. Methods and Results We conducted a cohort analysis using the UK Biobank data set, encompassing 121 317 participants. We assessed the well‐being of participants using a well‐being index derived from baseline questionnaires. Well‐being categories were derived by latent class analysis using general happiness and satisfaction with family, friendships, health, and finance situations. The relationship between well‐being and 4 major CVDs was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards models and Mendelian randomization. The study also examined the impacts of well‐being on lifestyle factors and inflammatory markers, and its mediating role in the well‐being–CVD relationship. Higher well‐being was associated with a significantly reduced risk of various CVDs. Latent class analysis identified 4 distinct well‐being groups (low, variable, moderate‐to‐high, and high satisfaction), with higher satisfaction levels generally associated with lower risk of CVDs. Mendelian randomization suggested potential causal relationships between well‐being and reduced risk of CVDs. Participants with greater well‐being demonstrated healthier behaviors and lower levels of inflammatory markers. Mediation analysis indicated that lifestyle and inflammatory markers partially mediated the relationship between well‐being and CVDs. Conclusions This study demonstrates a robust inverse association between well‐being and the risks of CVDs, suggesting that enhancing well‐being may be a viable strategy for CVD prevention. The role of lifestyle factors and inflammation as a mediator provides insight into possible biological pathways linking psychological states and cardiovascular health.

Introduction: This study described the different stages of uncontrolled hypertension, and assessed independently of the socio-demographic parameters, the non-modifiable and modifiable factors associated with uncontrolled hypertension at ambulatory care, in urban and peri-urban primary health care centres (PHCCs) of Bobo–Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Methods: A sample of 380 hypertensive adults were consecutively interviewed from January to February 2022, in 20 public PHCCs, in Bobo-Dioulasso. Sociodemographic, non- and modifiable lifestyle, anthropometric and blood pressure parameters were collected. Descriptive, comparative and logistic regression tests were performed. Results: The participants’ mean age was 56.2 ± 10.4 years and frequency of uncontrolled hypertension stage I, II and III was respectively 40.3 %, 23.3 % and 7.9 %. Those with family history of hypertension was 42.4 %. Participants with monotherapy, bi-therapy and tri-therapy represented 51.6 %, 42.6 % and 2.1 % respectively, while 38.2 % declared to be uncompliant with the therapy. About 36 % were current alcohol users, 29.7 % physically inactive, 23.7 % ate less than three servings of fruits and vegetables (FV), 15.3 % were obese, and 12.9 % current tobacco users. In logistic regression analysis, the presence of family history of hypertension [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 2.1; p = 0.005], use of bi-/tri-therapy (aOR = 1.7; p = 0.044), daily intake of less than three FV servings (aOR = 1.9; p = 0.025); non-adherence with therapy (aOR = 3.3, p = 0.0001) and obesity (aOR = 4.5; p = 0.003) were associated with uncontrolled hypertension. Conclusion: Uncontrolled hypertension was high at ambulatory primary care. For its efficient management in secondary prevention, a tailored in-hospital strategy including permanent education for a healthier lifestyle practice is needed; and should be complementary strengthened with specific community-based interventions.
