SEX discrimination against women , *WEB databases , *SCIENCE databases , *SEXISM , *WORK environment - Abstract
The sexism, as prejudice and discrimination against women, can also be observed in the work environment, in an interpersonal and institutional way, especially in environments considered typically male. In this context, we believe it is important to study sexism in the workplace. That said, we carried out a scoping review in order to identify and analyze studies that deal with "expressions of sexism in the workplace". For this purpose, we performed a bibliographic search in the SciELO, PePSIC, LILACS, Index Psi, PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES and Web of Science databases, selecting documents published in article format and articles with descriptors present in the title, abstract, keywords or subject, and excluding duplicate articles, articles without abstract or unavailable in full on the internet and articles that did not deal with the theme as the main focus. Thus, we obtained a final bank consisting of 129 articles, which were analyzed manually and using the IRaMuTeQ software. The results showed a greater publication in recent years, a predominance of quantitative empirical and international articles and that the topic is of multidisciplinary interest, with emphasis on Psychology. The studies present a well-defined methodological structure and emphasize the ambivalent character of sexism, its institutional manifestation and the figure of woman as victim of this phenomenon. The theme is of increasing interest but deserves more attention in the local context. This review brings important contributions and presents limitations and suggestions for future researches. GREEN behavior , *INSTITUTIONAL environment , *ORGANIZATIONAL identification , *ENVIRONMENTAL organizations , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
Employees' pro-environmental behaviours at work can contribute to reducing organizations' environmental impacts through the integration of environmental practices into daily routines. This study explored how a green climate at the organizational and co-worker level and supervisor support help predict employees' voluntary green behaviours at work, particularly regarding waste separation. Organizational identification's mediating role in these relationships was also examined. Cross-sectional, correlational research was conducted at a Portuguese higher education institution in which 164 employees responded to an online survey. The results reveal a significant positive association between workers' perceptions of a green organizational climate and their reported pro-environmental behaviours, but organizational identification does not mediate the green climate–pro-environmental behaviours relationship. In addition, supervisor support's effect on pro-environmental behaviours was only marginally significant. These findings underline the importance of organizational-level initiatives as a way to promote green behaviours at work, but a better understanding of the processes generating these relationships is still needed. The practical implications include the need for more investment in initiatives that focus on making environmental concerns part of organizations' daily procedures and routines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction: The work environment of hospital nurses and its impact on results have not been explored in Colombia. This research seeks to describe the characteristics of the work environment of nurses in a Colombian public hospital and to determine their association with sociodemographic characteristics and with results for the nurse, the patient and the institution. Method: Exploratory descriptive study. The 139 clinical nurses from the institution were invited to participate. The form was sent by RedCap, with sociodemographic and employment questions, the ENLASA-Nursing instrument, and results questions. Frequencies and percentages were obtained from the sociodemographic and employment data. The Dalenius-Hodges method was used to determine the score in which the healthy work environment was considered. To analyze the associations between sociodemographic and occupational characteristics, ENLASA-Nursing scores, and outcomes, the contingency coefficient, Phi, and Cramer's V were used. Results: The response rate was 84%. The overall score suggests that the work environment is healthy. The dimension of organizational structural components is considered unhealthy (58.3048/100); that of organizational processes is considered healthy (68.1256/100). The subdimensions with the lowest scores were: human resources policies (62.2960/100), nursing resource planning (42.9487), and remuneration (52.7778). In the organizational process dimension, clinical autonomy obtained the lowest and the only score that classifies it as an unhealthy aspect (52.6709). Conclusions: There is a need to promote healthy work environments, work on policies and planning of human resources in nursing, and advance research on this matter, to support national and organizational policy decisions. This forum critically reflects on discrimination faced by early-career women international relations (IR) scholars in the Asia-Pacific region in their workplaces and beyond. By taking a self-ethnographic perspective, six contributors from five countries provide an engaging overview of difficulties they face in their everyday lives. Against the backdrop of this diverse and globalizing region, the contributors are all academic migrants in search of employment and learning opportunities within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. They lead migratory lives by frequently crossing ideational and material boundaries to contribute to a more diverse IR knowledge base, and they encounter numerous difficulties and forms of discrimination. This forum has two aims. First, in reflecting on the contributors' own lived experiences, it highlights the diversity of issues faced by early-career women scholars in this region. Second, it calls for novel, more inclusive forms of solidarity that appreciates diversity as plurality across any divides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Topics addressing the working conditions of nursing professionals are widely discussed, as they cover subjects such as workload and wages, professional development and career planning, occupational health and safety, adequate physical conditions and sufficient equipment, teamwork and professional recognition, and management and leadership, which in turn influence job satisfaction and quality of care. Factors related to working conditions also affect the opinions of nursing students regarding the profession, which can generate doubts and concerns about their future as nurses. Objective: To know the opinions of undergraduate nursing students who study at Brazilian universities regarding the working conditions of nursing in Brazil. Method: This is a descriptive survey with a qualitative approach. A total of 25 nursing students participated in the study. Results: Four themes were identified: 1) nursing work conditions; 2) factors that help overcome adverse working conditions; 3) reflections on the future in the profession; 4) suggestions to improve nursing working conditions. Conclusion: The support of public administrators and also institutional and nursing leaders' support were identified as important factors to improve conditions in the nursing work environment. With the improvement of nurses' working conditions, nursing students will also feel more motivated to dedicate themselves to the course and pursue a career in the profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: concern for the work environment in nursing has become even greater since the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the quantity and quality of nursing personnel around the world. Objective: to describe the work environment of nurses performing care functions in a hospital in Bogota, Colombia. Method: exploratory descriptive study. The Enlasa -Nursing Questionnaire was sent to all the nurses in the hospital under study through RedCap. Results: 50% of the nurses (49 nurses) of the institution invited to participate in the study answered the complete questionnaire. The work environment was considered unhealthy by 57.1% of the respondents. The dimension of structural elements was seen as unhealthy (64.49/100), and that of organizational processes as healthy (71.18/100). The sub-dimensions considered unhealthy in structure were nursing resource planning (54.66/100) and human resources policies (58.91/100). With respect to processes were nurse-organization interaction (63.10/100) and autonomy (66.07/100). No association was found between sociodemographic variables and nursing work environment. The only statistically significant association between work environment and results was the one related to motivation to work (Phi 0.362, p=0.040). Conclusions: it is suggested to intervene in the dimensions and subdimensions identified as unhealthy and to continue monitoring this phenomenon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BODY weight , *SOCIOECONOMIC factors , *FOOD habits , *INGESTION , *OBESITY , *NUTRITIONAL status - Abstract
Introduction: workers’ exposure to unhealthy eating is linked to the increase in overweight and obesity. Objective: this systematic review aims to analyze with bias and quality analysis the effect of interventions in the food environment of the work)place on the nutritional status of workers. Methods: the search was conducted in three electronic databases according to the Cochrane Collaboration and eight studies were included. Data were grouped according to type of environmental intervention, and methodological quality and validity with risk of bias was analyzed. Results: three studies had effects on reducing BMI and body weight, but one was judged to be reliable evidence of effectiveness, as they were at low risk of bias. Half of the included articles were assessed at high risk of bias (3/8) and unclear risk of bias (1/8), due to errors in selection and performance and missing data in the results. Conclusions: we conclude that there is not enough evidence to indicate that these types of interventions have an effect on body weight. To make effective interventions, the design of these studies has to avoid potential sources of bias, which were analyzed in detail in this study. The global food environment of workers and not just their workplace must be considered, deepening the interaction that exists between socioeconomic factors and food environments. Suffering in the workplace is probably a more common occurrence than expected in everyday life. In the interests of both, employee wellbeing and company performance, it must be taken seriously in consideration. However, poor knowledge exists concerning the effects of suffering on health and occupational safety because neither the current human management systems, nor the specialized literature directly address this problem. As a consequence there is a lack of evidence regarding how to manage suffering in organizations. Rooted in human resources managers postulates, this work is a thoughtful analysis of data collected from focus group discussions with Top Human Resources Managers of selected companies in Spain. The article offers an innovative look at the under-researched topic of suffering in the workplace to discover what has been done, what has to change and what is to come in the field of suffering.

- Abstract
This research is a comparative analysis of residence-work mobility in terms of spatial capital, as an attribute of the territory and of the individual. Based on the dimensions of spatial capital, proposed by J. Lévy (1994), this study explored the mobility of workers in four sectors of the city of Mérida, Yucatán. The importance of the theme lies in the fact that the spatial domain of the economic market is presented as a capital, distributed unequally, it is a precarious element between social groups and the spatial mobility of people is constituted in relation to the circumstances of capital. spatial, but producing its own inequalities. To carry out this analysis, an origin-destination survey was conducted, as well as georeference data from the work centers and the transportation system, using Google Earth and Arc Map 10.5 softwares. The results show that the inhabitants of the southern periphery are in inequality of spatial capital and position and are exacerbated because they had lower incomes and less mobile resources.

Objective. To assess the relationship between labor quality of life (LQL) and organizational workers performance (OWP) from seven public hospitals, analyzing the influence of the personnel management (PM) as mediator of this relationship. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 866 professionals and managers of public hospitals from Tlaxcala and Mexico City. The LQL was assessed with a validated questionnaire, OWP with 34 indicators, and PM with an instrument designed for this study. Results. Mean scores of LQL, were significantly lower among workers from Tlaxcala. Participants who perceived an adequate PM, they increased at 2.7 times their likelihood of having highest LQL, and participants categorized in the high LQL presented 69% higher likelihood of having an adequate OWP. Conclusions. The appropriate PM was associated with greater LQL, showing to be a mediator variable between the positive relationship of CVL and the OWP.

DIGNITY , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *FACTOR structure - Abstract
Introduction and objective: Workers contend with many threats while performing their daily routine that could undermine their dignity, such as denigrating comments from supervisors or co-workers. Denying workers' dignity constitutes a direct threat towards their well-being. The aim of this paper is to adapt and validate the Spanish version of the Workplace Dignity Scale (WDS). Method: An instrumental design was executed in order to adapt the scale to Spanish with a Mexican population (N = 588). Following back-translation, three studies were conducted in which confirmatory factor analysis, correlations, regressions, and invariance analysis were applied. Results: The results showed that the Spanish adaptation conforms to the six-factor structure of the original scale and that organisational dehumanisation and workers' self-objectification predicted dignity at work; with workers' self-objectification being the variable that most strongly predicted workers' dignity. Finally, we also evaluated measurement invariance comparing our data with the results of the original scale. In general, results indicated that even when the Spanish version of the WDS presented an adequate factor structure, its measurement presented different factor loadings and slopes compared with the measurement of the original scale. Conclusions: In general, we have an instrument adapted to the Mexican context that allows us to evaluate workers' sense of dignity in the workplace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: IIntroduction: maternal employment after childbirth is associated with abandonment of breastfeeding; however, lactation rooms in the workplace increase the practice of breastfeeding. Objective: to compare the frequency and duration of breastfeeding among working mothers based on the presence of lactation rooms in their workplaces. Methods: we included mothers from different institutions whose infants were between 6 and 35 months (n = 158), and an ad hoc questionnaire was applied to assess breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding (EBF), partial breastfeeding (PBF), and use of human milk substitutes (HMS). Two groups were compared: working mothers with a lactation room at their workplace (n = 76) versus working mothers without this resource (n = 82). Results: breastfeeding duration (7.5 vs. 5.0 months, p < 0.001) and EBF (3.0 vs. 1.2 months, p = 0.005) were higher in mothers who had a lactation room. HMS use was shorter in mothers who had a lactation room (2.5 vs. 10.0 months, p = 0.001). There were more working mothers who breastfed for more than six months (75.0 % vs. 48.8 %) [OR = 3.15 (95 % CI, 1.60-6.19), p = 0.001] and 12 months (31.6 % vs. 14.6 %) [OR = 2.69 (95 % CI, 1.23-5.87), p = 0.014] when lactation rooms were available in their workplaces. Conclusion: the presence of a lactation room in the workplace was associated with a higher frequency and duration of breastfeeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

DIVERSITY in the workplace , *SOCIAL groups , *ETHNICITY , *GROUP identity - Abstract
This paper provides a theoretically driven discussion about the need to take the workplace, rather than social group identities, as the point of entry into studying encounters at work. Broadening the lens beyond these identities allows an appreciation of the multidimensional elements that constitute the workplace – this being the institutional, material, social and discursive, and how they shape everyday encounters with difference at work. This understanding is vital if we are to effectively enhance the potential of workplaces to facilitate 'meaningful' contact in cities. Drawing on two case studies of professional workplaces in Melbourne and Singapore, I illustrate how the multidimensional workplace gives rise to the performance of place-based identities that intersect with ethnicity, nationality and gender, but the salient intersections and their impacts on encounters are influenced by the context in which the workplace is situated. I thus conclude that the workplace as well as the broader place matters in how encounters play out at work. The paper therefore contributes to the existing literature on encounters at work specifically, and urban encounters more generally, by articulating the multidimensionality of the workplace and its importance in shaping everyday contact. SICK leave , *TIME series analysis - Abstract
Objective: We describe time trend incidence (2009-2018) of non-work related Sickness Absence (SA) segmented by duration of episodes in Spain. Methods: We used SA cases from a health insurance company ("mutua") in Spain. Overall non-work related SA incidence and incidence by duration of episodes (1-3 days, 4-15 days, 16-30 days, 31-90 days and> 90 days) were obtained. A time series ecological study was carried out with an inflection point in 2013. The annual percentage of change and 95% confidence interval were obtained. The analyses were stratified by age and sex. Results: Overall incidence went from 35.3 cases per 100 workers-years in 2009 to 25.2 in 2013. From 2014, there is a sustained rise in the incidence of ITCC, ending 2018 with 34.1 cases per 100 workers-years. The overall incidence is determined mainly by processes less than 16 days in young population. The decrease in 2009-2013 occurred in all the duration segments, especially in 4 to 15 (APC=-11,2; 95% CI=(-14,1 a -8,2)) and more than 90 days (APC =-9,4; 95% CI =(-15,5 a -2,8)), mainly in young people. The rise in 2013-2018 was observed in all the segments, with the largest significant increase in sections of 1-3 days (younger workers: APC =18,9; 95% CI =(14,8 a 23,2)) and in more than 90 days (mainly in older ones). Time trend of SA showed similar pattern in both sexes. Conclusions: Time trend analysis of SA incidence by duration segments offers a detailed information of SA. These results are useful for professionals in the prevention and management of SA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The study of work processes is a complex task that includes exhaustive and precise knowledge of the labor demands and risks in a given workplace. These risks and demands result from the relationship among the fundamental elements of the work process, whose interaction with a worker can affect his health. The purpose of this study is to show how an ethnographic methodology was used to investigate work processes in productive industry workplaces and propose appropriate preventive actions. The methodology is based on direct observation and workers’ experience of work processes. It consists of three data collection instruments: 1) Work process flow charts; 2) description of the flow diagrams of the work processes; and 3) summary tables of complex diagrams of workplace health. Based on the data provided in the summary tables, a set of recommendations for the workplace was designed. This methodology has been widely tested in various economic sectors, such as agriculture; extractive, transformative, and construction industries; and services, whether in micro, small, medium, or large companies. In summary, this is a tool that provides integrated knowledge about work processes and the risks and demands inherent in them and provides preventive measures to eliminate or control dangers to workers., El estudio de los procesos de trabajo es una tarea «compleja» que incluye el conocimiento exhaustivo y preciso de los riesgos y exigencia laborales ahí presentes.

- Abstract
The STSJ of Madrid 89/2023 of February 3 examines a controversial case, the classification as a work accident of a myocardial infarction suffered by a remote work at home. The controversy revolves around the examination of labor notes that integrate the concept “work accident” and, specifically, regarding the presumption “working time”. The worker had a flexible work schedule that allowed the workday to start between 08:00 and 10:00 and their workday was recorded by turning on the computer. However, on the day of the events, said record was not produced. For these reasons, the social chamber of the TSJ of Madrid considers that the contingency that caused the death of the worker cannot be classified as a work accident because there is no record that the working day had started after reviewing the data from the time record., La STSJ de Madrid 89/2023 de 3 de febrero examina un supuesto controvertido, la calificación como accidente de trabajo del infarto de miocardio sufrido por una persona teletrabajadora en su domicilio.

A large body of research has shown that terrorism enhances fears and undermines perceived safety in a high proportion of both directly exposed individuals and individuals without any form of direct exposure (i.e. no geographical proximity to an attack). Some studies have further suggested that fear of terrorism may adversely affect health in those without direct exposure and that this may constitute an important public health burden because of the number who are indirectly exposed. Limited studies have investigated threat and safety perception after workplace terrorism and the possible consequences for employee health. To explore whether perceived safety and threat in employees whose workplace was subjected to a terrorist attack are associated with subsequent sick-leave. A longitudinal questionnaire survey on governmental employees' perceived safety and threat at work one (T1) and two (T2) years after the 2011 terrorist attack on the Norwegian ministries was linked to registry data on doctor-certified sick-leave for two 9-month periods following T1 and T2 (N = 1703). There was fairly strong evidence (0.004 < p < 0.034) that higher perceived safety was associated with a close to 30% reduction in sick-leave in fully adjusted models which included terror exposure and symptom-based PTSD. There was inconclusive evidence that lower perceived threat was associated with reduced sick-leave in the full models. Reduced perceived safety in employees following workplace terrorism may have adverse health consequences of public health significance given how prevalent this perception seems to be. The study supports that post-terrorism response plans should include strategies on how to address the potentially large number of individuals suffering ill health after terror even if they were not directly exposed and do not meet criteria for PTSD. Objective: To analyze occupational health and safety (OHS) management practices used by companies that allow teleworking and propose modifications to the OHS management system. Methods: The unit of study were companies in the services sector of Bogotá and their teleworkers. To identify company practices, , we conducted a survey of teleworkers and key informant interviews with those responsible for OHSh. Recommendations for adapting the elements of the teleworking management system were made based on the analysis and integration of the theoretical and conceptual framework with the practices of companies with teleworkers. Results: Overall, we observed that companies continue with usual strategies for workplace health and safety, without considering the different nature of the work. The synthesis that resulted from combining the theoretical and conceptual framework with the risk management analysis in companies identified that the system components could be modified for telework, specifically in the organization and planning, application and evaluation components of the OHS management system. Conclusions: Usual OHS risk management practices of companies with teleworkers should be improved by adjusting some of the components of the management system. These ad-justments include managing information and technological innovations by applying them to the organization and planning, application and evaluation components of the system.
