In recent decades, with the paradigm shift in the literature of urban development toward a rational and populist theoretical orientation, the emphasis on local development through appropriate strategies has been recognized as one of the effective alternatives for urban development. Tourism has been regarded as one of the most critical urban development strategies at the neighborhood and local community levels in recent years. Evaluation of the feasibility of this methodology in Ekbatan is the objective of this investigation. According to the purpose and nature of this research, a qualitative method has been used to collect data. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with 17 experts in the fields of tourism and urban planning. The results indicate that the neighborhood in question has the potential to develop into a contemporary tourism destination that is primarily populated by educated visitors with cultural and social preferences, as well as those who are interested in architecture and urban revitalization. This is subject to taking into account the prerequisites, drivers and capacities and removing the limitations at the local, meso and macro level. In conclusion, the participatory development paradigm in the context of neighborhood tourism is substantiated by this research. It also validates the potential to convert local modern potential into a marketable product within the tourism system, surpassing public/government intervention models, which frequently impose themselves on the reality of the neighborhood or are stereotyped. While the planning and development of dense and high-rise neighborhoods are commonly perceived as primarily technical procedures, the past several decades have highlighted the growing social complexity of these processes. Neighborhood initiatives opposing development, as well as an increasing variety of public and private stakeholders involved in these processes, have led to the continual emergence of organizations that facilitate the production of urban density and verticality. Committees are founded to operate at the nexus of public and private development, while simultaneously promoting urban growth and public interests. Although they often are not formally recognized as political entities, they are constituted by political acts and hence influence planning processes. However, despite all the research into dense and high-rise neighborhood developments, academic interest has so far neglected the role of committees in these processes. This article aims to fill this gap by presenting an analysis of 23 committees engaging with high-rise housing and neighborhood developments in the three German-speaking countries of Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. First, it reveals the heterogeneity of committees, delineating four components for the institutionalization of committees. This is followed by an in-depth analysis of two committees in Austria and Switzerland, to demonstrate how these structural components influence the development of neighborhoods.

Recent investments in built environment infrastructure to create healthy communities have highlighted the need for equity and environmental justice. Although the benefits of healthy community design (e.g., connecting transportation systems and land use changes) are well established, some reports suggest that these changes may increase property values. These increases can raise the risk of displacement for people with low incomes and/or who are from racial and ethnic minority groups, who would then miss out on benefits from changes in community design. This review scanned the literature for displacement mitigation and prevention measures, with the goal of providing a compilation of available strategies for a wide range of audiences including public health practitioners. A CDC librarian searched the Medline, EbscoHost, Scopus, and ProQuest Central databases, and we identified grey literature using Google and Google Scholar searches. The indexed literature search identified 6 articles, and the grey literature scan added 18 articles. From these 24 total articles, we identified 141 mitigation and prevention strategies for displacement and thematically characterized each by domain using an adapted existing typology. This work provides a well-categorized inventory for practitioners and sets the stage for future evaluation research on the implementation of strategies and practices to reduce displacement. This study investigates the varied effects of urban revitalization projects on land prices in Seongnam, South Korea. As rapid urbanization continues to be a global challenge, the economic impacts of different urban revitalization strategies hold crucial importance in informed urban planning and policymaking. This study uses a spatial hedonic approach to analyze the influence of distinct urban renewal and regeneration initiatives on land values. The results reveal that the urban renewal project, which involves significant physical upgrades and redevelopment, appears to substantially increase land prices. However, a deeper analysis accounting for spatial spillover effects indicates that most of this increase is due to the influence of high-value adjacent areas. Conversely, urban regeneration projects, which focus on enhancing the socioeconomic and cultural aspects of urban areas without causing drastic physical changes, consistently have a significant positive impact on land prices, even when spatial structures are considered. This study underscores that urban planners and policymakers should carefully evaluate the type of urban revitalization strategy to be implemented and its contextual spatial effects. The findings suggest that urban regeneration can be a more effective tool than urban renewal for sustainable urban improvement, contributing to enhanced land utility and neighborhood development. Recent efforts to promote land value capture as a solution to the fiscal crisis of local governments have gained traction, increasing the use of value capture tools across a variety of contexts. This research provides a case study examining how the politics of transit value capture district designation intersect with racialized patterns of disinvestment. Using the case of Kansas City (MO), I illustrate how the attempts of planners and policymakers to expand transit value capture were met with resistance from both low-income and wealthy neighborhoods. I explore how differentiated response to neighborhood concerns by planners combined with stakeholder frameworks about social equity and perceptions of historical domination to produce results exactly counter to the stated purpose of "not building transit purely for the White people." The case illustrates the importance of considering racial inequities and historic patterns of marginalization in transit value capture to achieve racial equity and challenge existing patterns of segregation. Designating value capture district boundaries is a sociotechnical process that interacts with and potentially reinforces existing patterns of domination and oppression. To ensure that value capture implementation does not reproduce and exacerbate existing inequities, urban planning professionals should centralize issues of race, segregation, and marginality in their efforts to create, capture, and distribute land value. Value capture schemes need to be tailored to the local built environment, sociodemographic history, and the needs of specific communities to be effective at addressing spatial inequities. In a cross-national project, 14 neighborhoods from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were accompanied on their way to digitally supported neighborhood work. This paper discusses general requirements, choosing a suitable digital tool, the implementation process as well as the challenges faced by the various stakeholders. The following factors have been found to play a major role in sustainable neighborhood work: good fit with overall development strategy, interplay between online neighborhood work and physical interactions, strong existing neighborhood management structures, strategic planning of digitalization activities, start-up funding for innovation activities, and above all, the presence of a committed person or team as well as interesting content to attract users. Depending on the neighborhood, self-managed and individualistic solutions are preferred to generic and/or commercial solutions. The article will introduce the reader to the Cuban situation concerning neighborhood development, civic participation, and housing policy. Its intention is to demonstrate a concept of government-introduced self-help housing in Cuba called microbrigades, using case study analysis of Santa Clara, Cuba. Comparing Cuban microbrigades with other self-help housing projects from different countries highlights the particularities of this extraordinary concept.

Resident involvement in voluntary organizations within neighborhoods is often predicted by social factors, awareness of neighborhood problems, and past involvement in activism. Less is known about what predicts involvement in gentrifying neighborhoods with a concentration of generational Latino/Latina families. The mixed methods surveys of residents (n = 195) and in-depth interviews of neighborhood association participants and leaders in the Menlo Park neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona (n = 17), determined that residents were involved in the neighborhood association this year when they were also involved in other voluntary organizations in the last year and activism since moving into the neighborhood. Latino/Latina households were more involved in faith/religious and school-focused organizations. Caucasian households were more involved in the neighborhood farmer’s market, business or civic groups, arts, and other social change efforts. After the 2008 housing loan crisis, many houses were foreclosed/abandoned in Michigan, and specifically Grand Rapids (GR). Our study provides a collaborative and scalable model for collecting parcel-level housing data, in a southeast GR neighborhood within 15 U.S. Census Blocks. Grand Valley State University Geography faculty and students partnered with the Seeds of Promise organization/residents by using GIS/sidewalk visual observation to assess housing vacancy and evaluation of physical conditions to better understand the current housing conditions. Countries face challenges in changing their risky and costly systems of fossil fuel usageinto sustainable development. So many communities started using Neighborhood sustainability assessment tools since the turn of 21st century. Countries utilize these tools to measure their success in approaching sustainable development goals. Each tool is accommodated to suite its environment. For example, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)Rating System is concerned on energy and gives lower value to water while Green Pyramid Rating System (GPRS) does exactly the opposite. On the other hand there isn't a comprehensive neighborhoodrating system in Egypt. This paper proposed a Green Pyramid Neighborhood Rating System, which is based on the original GPRS to assess zero energy concepts on neighborhood level counting building, infrastructure, street network, sidewalks, facilities and community development. Dubai needs immediate intervention to retrofit its current development strategies with a new emphasis on sustainability. Dubai's urbanization process compromised the environment to meet economic goals and housing necessities for citizens. This research asks, which form-based urban design strategies can most effectively deliver greater environmental, social, and economic coherence in Dubai's neighborhood development? Two rounds of the Delphi, a structured communication technique utilizing multiple rounds of questioning, were employed to obtain experts' advice on redefining urbanism in Dubai. Findings stress that for Dubai, the most sustainable neighborhoods will feature compactness, connectivity and multiple transportation options, diversity, culturally relevant urbanism, and climate-sensitive urbanism, all integrated in the urban fabric. Results confirm that sustainability cannot be studied in abstraction from context: experts identified various obstacles that the local context presents to the implementation of these principles. Developing and successfully implementing strategies to promote sustainability in Dubai is therefore a complex process that requires a shift in government priorities and cultural norms. The article argues that planners and officials should balance the claims of social, economic, and environmental sustainability rather than allowing economic strategies and social subsidies to dwarf environmental stewardship; planners must acknowledge all three factors equally and come up with context-relevant solutions and practical compromises. Officials should create a policy environment that supports such balance, and planners and officials should work together to institute a more transparent and inclusive process for making decisions about the built environment. Corporate houses have started improving the overall quality of life of people in the communities around their premises. The net profits after tax have undergone a standard shift. The economic structure of India has changed drastically over the last few decades. But the benefits of growth have reached marginally to low income groups. Multi-relational (MR) data refer to the objects that involve multi-associated tables or a relational database, and they are widely used in diverse applications. In spite of rich achievements in concrete classification or regression tasks, a neighborhood development algorithm customized to MR data is still missing. The reason lies in the fact that MR data are high-dimensional and highly structured. To address these two difficulties, this paper presents a double-phase locality-sensitive hashing (DPLSH) algorithm to develop neighborhood for MR data. DPLSH consists of offline and online hashing schemas to draw and summarize local closeness information from each involved table. Based on the closeness information, three criteria of neighborhood development are proposed. DPLSH is encoded with parameterization heuristics to make the algorithm data adaptive and less costly. Extensive experiments indicate that for MR data, the quality of neighborhoods produced by DPLSH is better than its peers; besides, in common data environment, DPLSH also exhibits the competitive behaviors with the state of the art. Abstract: New Urbanism and Smart Growth are relatively new approaches to urban design that deals with environmental problems, housing issues, and community well-being. The implementation feasibility and significance of the planning ideas however can vary from place to place. Based on the planning principles of New Urbanism and Smart Growth, this study rigorously and realistically identifies key principles and investigates their relative importance for the planning and designing of the National Taipei University District (Taiwan). An extraction model first elicits knowledge from experts for the purpose of locating key principles. Next, key principles are fed into a simulation model to identify which of the principles should take precedence. This permitted an explicit consideration of local characteristics and background issues in the planning process. Results show that walkability is perceived by experts as the most important principle. While providing for various transportation options is found to be important to the development of the study area, green transportation is clearly not included. These findings suggest that the concept of sustainability is still very abstract and has not become an important planning criterion. Also, stakeholder engagement may be vital to community development planning such as the City of Irvine in the United States, but it is less important in Asian city-region. The results also show a less important role open space preservation has in creating better communities in a small island with a high population density like Taiwan. Thus, although New Urbanism and Smart Growth principles have important impacts on urban design, local circumstances must be taken into account instead of merely following the principles. Although extensive research has investigated urban vibrancy as a critical indicator for spatial planning, urban design, and economic development, the unclear relationship between local vibrancy and active living needs to be clarified and requires more in-depth analysis. This study localizes urban vibrancy at both hyper-local and neighborhood scales by integrating high-resolution, large-scale, and heterogeneous urban datasets and analyzing interactions among variables representing vibrancy's environmental, economic, and social aspects. We utilize publicly available urban open data, Points of Interest requested from API, and leisure running trajectories acquired through data mining to investigate the spatial distribution of various vibrancy indicators and how they interact with physical activity at the local scale. Based on these variables, we then construct linear regression models and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) models to test and estimate how local vibrancy and physical activity relate to residential real estate characteristics. The results reveal the strong impact of urban form on local vibrancy but not physical activeness. At the neighborhood level, all vibrancy factors are statistically significant to local residential real estate prices but with different interactions based on location. Our study highlights the importance of accounting for locality and different physical, environmental, social, and economic factors when analyzing and interpreting urban vibrancy at a granular scale within a city.

Abstract: This paper studies the meaning of neighborhood milieu and its appropriation in social city development by conducting content analysis on two neighborhoods and supplementing it with semi-structured questionnaires. The case study suggests that in social city development, the concept of milieu serves as an image creation goal that attempts to mix marginal neighborhoods with new creative milieu. The focus on local place attachment appears to be a short-term project that does not contribute to residents’ empowerment in the long run. Contrary to the current usage of milieu, which allows for the fabrication of particular images leading to many socio-cultural contradictions, this paper argues for the utility of milieu as place attachment for local residents. This article presents a case study of the inter-organizational network that formed to produce four housing projects in Cleveland's EcoVillage designed to integrate social equity and ecological stewardship as the basis for neighborhood redevelopment. Our paper builds on concepts of community development and housing production through inter-organizational networks spanning nonprofit, public, and private organizations that developed and supported four 'green' and affordable housing projects. We are interested in understanding how development of the housing projects changed and connected traditional neighborhood development and ecologically-oriented organizations and how their interaction changed the practice of housing production and environmental and sustainability advocacy locally and regionally. The results of the study reveal that the marriage of green and affordable housing in Cleveland, despite some challenges, was viewed as important and beneficial by the organizations involved, and resulted in a range of demonstration projects that not only changed the EcoVillage, but affected other neighborhood housing projects in Cleveland as well. The projects resulted in enhanced capacity for green housing production through creation of a new network of organizations spanning the housing and environmental sustainability fields of practice that continues to support sustainable housing and neighborhood development in Cleveland. Social workers have pivotal roles to play in facilitating collective parent involvement in economically poor school communities. Using a community-based, participatory, and empowerment-oriented approach to social work practice and research, this study provides empirical support for this claim. It examines the narratives of 17 economically poor parents who were involved for at least six months in a collective parent involvement program, which served a low-performing Title One elementary school in a western state. An analysis of parent interviews yielded six themes-as-facilitators for parent involvement. Parents described each facilitator in relation to their previous perceptions of (poverty-related) constraints on their own involvement and well-being. The authors conclude that school social workers implementing collective parent involvement programs can act as powerful bridging agents between families and schools. This facilitative bridging role hinges on the extent to which social workers support parents' efforts to meet their social, economic, and developmental needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

If neighborhood residents are to influence urban development effectively at the most local level of the neighborhood, they need information. One information foundation to ensure effective participation is a user-friendly database whereby people can quickly access information on their own neighborhood. An increasing number of cities are developing neighborhood data systems, which collect and provide data at the neighborhood level for foundations to develop better funding strategies, for governments to develop better policy, and for community organizations to develop better practice. This paper reports on the models of 19 neighborhood data system projects, most of which are affiliated with the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership. This article examines the neighborhood economic development movement in Chicago from the late 1970s through summer 2002, with a focus on changes since the middle 1980s, when Harold Washington's progressive regime provided much hope for those promoting community-based development approaches and reforms. More specifically, it analyzes the growth, struggles, and eventual collapse of the city's long- standing and nationally recognized coalition of neighborhood economic development organizations, the Chicago Association of Neighborhood Development Organizations (CANDO). CANDO's rise and fall showcases the changing fortunes of the community-based development movement in large cities. The group's experience is important for understanding the relationship between the movement and local government in general and for suggesting the best ways for community-based development organizations to gain and keep power in the face of changing environments. One of the challenges in welfare reform implementation is to provide neighborhood outreach and assistance to unemployed individuals. This case study tells the story of three neighborhoods as they implemented a public-private neighborhood jobs pilot initiative (NJPI). The Rockefeller Foundation, in partnership with Alameda County Social Services Agency, supplied seed money for the NJPI to develop “one-stop” employment resource centers. Basic concepts of cultural historical geography have been applied to a variety of community issues in St. Paul, MN. Through the process a sense of place has been developed at several scales. This inclusive sense of place has provided a link among various factions and made possible several compromises in land use and economic development issues. Against the background of social and demographic changes, this article addresses the design and organization of processes of aging within municipal contexts. It is assumed that the renaissance of the local communal situation corresponds to processes of individualization and subjectivation, which are characteristic for (post)industrial western societies, and that this development is one of the reasons that community-based social work is regaining importance. A case study of social work for the elderly in a municipality of the Ruhr area, which is imbedded in a municipal senior citizens policy concept, illustrates this assumption. The conclusion identifies the scope of actions for social work for the elderly as well as their limitations.
