During its four centuries of existence, Cervantes' Don Quixote has inspired numerous readings and interpretations issued from different areas of knowledge. In recent years, many contributions have appeared in the field of musicology, where critics have consolidated a new line of research in Cervantes studies: musical Cervantism. Although critics have enthusiastically analyzed the reception of Don Quixote in music, the encounter between Cervantes' novel and rap has not yet been explored. To fill in this gap, our article presents an overview of the reception of Don Quixote in Spanish-language rap and analyzes particularly the influence of the Spanish classic in the song "bzrp Music Sessions #49", by the Puerto Rican rapper Residente. Through this approach we seek, on the one hand, to analyze how current rappers recreate Cervantes' classic in their songs, and, on the other hand, to examine general connections between literature and rap.
