To assess the efficacy of a transmission‐type parallel plane reference chamber (T‐REF) for small‐field percentage depth dose (PDD) measurements using two high‐resolution detectors. The study utilizes microSilicon and microDiamond detectors for small‐field measurements, both with and without a T‐REF reference chamber. TrueBeam linear accelerator provides various photon energies (6X, 6XFFF, 10X, 10XFFF) for depth dose measurements. A sun‐nuclear 3D water tank is used to measure the PDD up to a depth of 15 cm. Analysis of the data includes a 1D gamma passing rate calculated using an in‐house MATLAB program. The study compares the PDD measurements obtained with and without the T‐REF. The T‐REF exhibits negligible beam perturbations across different field sizes and energies. The overall maximum mean PDD differences are 0.31 ± 0.16% for microSilicon and 0.33 ± 0.17% for microdiamond. The overall mean 1D gamma passing rate is 99.6 ± 0.2%. Background: Electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs) are applied to measure the dose and verify patients’ position.Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the performance of EPID for measuring dosimetric parameters in small photon fields.Material and Methods: In this experimental study, the output factors and beam profiles were obtained using the amorphous silicon (a-Si) EPID for square field sizes ranging from 1×1 to 10×10 cm2 at energies 6 and 18 mega-voltage (MV). For comparison, the dosimetric parameters were measured with the pinpoint, diode, and Semiflex dosimeters. Additionally, the Monaco treatment planning system was selected to calculate the output factors and beam profiles.Results: There was a significant difference between the output factors measured using the EPID and that measured with the other dosimeters for field sizes lower than 8×8 cm2. In the energy of 6 MV, the gamma passing rates (3%/3 mm) between EPID and diode profile were 98%, 98%, 95%, 94%, 93%, and 94% for 1×1, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, and 10×10 cm2, respectively. The measured penumbra width with EPID was higher compared to that measured by the diode dosimeter for both energies. Conclusion: The EPID can measure the dosimetric parameters in small photon fields, especially for beam profiles and penumbra measurements.

The surge in global agricultural input prices, particularly for nitrogen (N) fertilizers, has presented challenges for farmers facing stagnant crop prices and rising production costs. This study explored a system designed to sustain or enhance farmers’ income while reducing production costs, with a specific focus on implementing practices that involve cultivating crops with lower rates of fertilizer than conventional rates, particularly in smaller land settings, through on-farm experimentation (OFE). OFE was conducted over three years across 11 fields in Gifu, Japan, utilizing a strip trial design to investigate the effect of fertilizer input rates on rice yield. To collect yield data, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-mounted multispectral cameras were deployed. Background: With the ever‐increasing requirements of accuracy and personalization of radiotherapy treatments, stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) with volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) on O‐ring Halcyon radiotherapy system could potentially provide a fast, safe, and feasible treatment option. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the delivery of Halcyon VMAT plans for small targets. Methods: Well‐defined VMAT‐SRT plans were created on Halcyon radiotherapy system with the stacked and staggered dual‐layer MLC design for the film measurement set‐up and the target sizes and shapes designed to emulate the targets of the stereotactic treatments. The planar dose distributions were acquired with film measurements and compared to a current clinical reference dose calculation with AcurosXB (v18.0, Varian Medical Systems) and to Monte Carlo simulations. With the collapsed arc versions of the VMAT‐SRT plans, the uncertainty in dose delivery due to the multileaf collimator (MLC) without the gantry rotation could be separated and analyzed. Results: The target size was mainly limited by the resolution originated from the design of the MLC leaves. The results of the collapsed arc versions of the plans show good consistency among measured, calculated, and simulated dose distributions. With the full VMAT plans, the agreement between calculated and simulated dose distributions was consistent with the collapsed arc versions. The measured dose distribution agreed with the calculated and simulated dose distributions within the target regions, but considerable local differences were observed in the margins of the target. The largest differences located in the steep gradient regions presumably originating from the deviation of the isocenter. Conclusions: The potential of the Halcyon radiotherapy system for VMAT‐SRT delivery was evaluated and the study revealed valuable insights on the machine characteristics with the delivery. Purpose: A novel pulse normalization technology enabling the acquisition of low noise beam data without the use of a physical reference chamber has recently been commercially released. The purpose of this study was to characterize the use of this technology for beam scanning of small fields required in the commissioning of a stereotactic radiotherapy program. Methods: Three detectors (Edge diode, microDiamond, PinPoint) were used to acquire beam data under three conditions: with a reference chamber, with pulse normalization and no reference chamber (PN), and without pulse normalization and no reference chamber (nPN). Percent depth dose (PDD) scans were acquired for 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 cm2 field sizes and profiles were acquired at 1.4, 10, and 30 cm depths using continuous scanning. The coefficient of variation (CoV) was calculated for all beam data to compare signal‐to‐noise and gamma comparisons (1%, 1 mm) were calculated of the PN and nPN scans compared to the reference data. Results: Average 95th percentile CoV values were similar for all detectors across conditions, with PN data being comparable to reference data and minor increases observed for nPN data. Mean gamma pass rates for PN PDD scans exceeded 98% for all detectors. Profile gamma pass rates were 100% for all detectors at 1.4 and 10 cm depth. At 30 cm depth, profiles acquired with the PinPoint and microDiamond detectors had lower mean gamma pass rates than the Edge, at 95% and 95.7%, respectively. Conclusions: A novel pulse normalization technology was demonstrated to be effective for acquiring beam profiles and PDDs for small fields without the use of a physical reference chamber. Limitations in how the method is implemented led to some errors in data acquired using lower sensitivity detectors. Background: Dose area product in water (DAPw) in small fields relies on the use of detectors with a sensitive area larger than the irradiation field. This quantity has recently been used to establish primary standards down to 5 mm field size, with an uncertainty smaller than 0.7%. It has the potential to decrease the uncertainty related to field output factors, but is not currently integrated into treatment planning systems. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the feasibility of converting DAPw into a point dose in small fields by determining the volume averaging correction factor. By determining the field output factors, a comparison between the so‐called "DAPw to point dose" approach and the IAEA TRS483 methodology was performed. Method: Diodes, microdiamonds, and a micro ionization chamber were used to measure field output factors following the IAEA TRS483 methodology on two similar linacs equipped with circular cones down to 6 mm diameter. For the "DAPw to point dose" approach, measurements were performed with a dedicated and built‐in‐house 3 cm diameter plane‐parallel ionization chamber calibrated in terms of DAPw in the French Primary Dosimetry Standards Laboratory LNE‐LNHB. Beam profile measurements were performed to generate volume averaging correction factors enabling the conversion of an integral DAPw measurement into a point dose and the determination of the field output factors. Both sets of field output factors were compared. Results: According to the IAEA TRS483 methodology, field output factors were within ±3% for all detectors on both linacs. Large variations were observed for the volume averaging correction factors with a maximum spread between the detectors of 26% for the smallest field size. Consequently, deviations of up to 15% between the "IAEA TRS483" and the "DAPw to point dose" methodologies were found for the field output factor of the smallest field size. This was attributed to the difficulty in accurately determining beam profiles in small fields. Conclusion: Although primary standards associated with small uncertainties can be established in terms of DAPw in a primary laboratory, the "DAPw to point dose" methodology requires volume averaging correction to derive a field output factor from DAPw measurements. None of the point detectors studied provided satisfactory results, and additional work using other detectors, such as film, is still required to allow the transfer of a DAP primary standard to users in terms of absorbed point dose. The TRS-483 Code of Practice (CoP) provides generic relative output correction factors, , for a range of detectors and beam energies as used in small field dosimetry. In this work, the convergence of the relative output factors (ROFs) for 6 MV X-ray beams with and without flattening filters was investigated under different combinations of beam collimation and published detector correction factors. The SFD, PFD and CC04 (IBA) were used to measure ROFs of a TrueBeam STx linear accelerator with small fields collimated by the high-definition MLC, which has 2.5 and 5.0 mm projected leaves. Two configurations were used for the collimators: (1) fixed jaws at 10 × 10 cm2 and (2) with a 2 mm offset from the MLC edge, in line with the recommended geometry from IROC-H as part of their auditing program and published dataset. The factors for the three detectors were taken from the TRS483 CoP and other published works. The average differences of ROFs measured by detectors under MLC fields with fixed jaws and with 2 mm jaws offset for the 6 MV-WFF beam are 1.4% and 1.9%, respectively. Similarly, they are 2.3% and 2.4% for the 6MV-FFF beam. The relative differences between the detector-average ROFs and the corresponding IROC-H dataset are 2.0% and 3.1% for the 6 MV-WFF beam, while they are 2.4% and 3.2% for the 6MV-FFF beam at the smallest available field size of 2 × 2 cm2. For smaller field sizes, the average ROFs of the three detectors and corresponding results from Akino and Dufreneix showed the largest difference to be 6.6% and 6.2% under the 6 MV-WFF beam, while they are 3.4% and 3.6% under the 6 MV-WFF beam at the smallest field size of 0.5 × 0.5 cm2. Some well-published specific output correction factors for different small field detector types give better convergence in the calculation of the relative output factor in comparison with the generic data provided by the TRS-483 CoP. Relative output factor measurements should be performed as close as possible to the clinical settings including a combination of collimation systems, beam types and using at least three different types of small field detector for more accurate computation of the treatment planning system. The IROC-H dataset is not available for field size smaller than 2 × 2 cm2 for double checks and so that user should carefully check with other publications with the same setting. Background: Accurate dose measurements are difficult in small fields due to charge particle disequilibrium, partial source occlusion, steep dose gradient, and the finite size of the detector. Aim: The study aims to determine the output factor using various detectors oriented in parallel and perpendicular orientations for three different tertiary collimating systems using 15 MV photon beams. In addition, this study analyzes how the output factor could be affected by different configurations of X and Y jaws above the tertiary collimators. Materials and Methods: Small field output factor measurements were carried out with three detectors for different tertiary collimating systems such as BrainLab stereotactic cones, BrainLab mMLC and Millennium MLC namely. To analyze the effect of jaw position on output factor, measurements have been carried out by positioning the jaws at the edge, 0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 cm away from the tertiary collimated field. Results: The data acquired with 15 MV photon beams show significant differences in output factor obtained with different detectors for all collimating systems. For smaller fields when compared to microDiamond, the SRS diode underestimates the output by up to -1.7% ± 0.8% and -2.1% ± 0.3%, and the pinpoint ion chamber underestimates the output by up to -8.1% ± 1.4% and -11.9% ± 1.9% in their parallel and perpendicular orientation respectively. A large increase in output factor was observed in the small field when the jaw was moved 0.25 cm symmetrically away from the tertiary collimated field. Conclusion: The investigated data on the effect of jaw position inferred that the position of the X and Y jaw highly influences the output factors of the small field. It also confirms that the output factor highly depends on the configuration of X and Y jaw settings, the tertiary collimating system as well as the orientation of the detectors in small fields. For comparison, the dosimetric parameters, including penumbra widths and field sizes, were measured with the pinpoint, diode, and Semiflex dosimeters. Finally, Rando Phantom was used to compare the two-dimensional (2D) Dose distribution between EPID and Treatment Planning System (TPS). Results: In both 5 cm and 10 cm depths, there were large differences between the measured doses obtained from TPS, Pinpoint detector, and Farmer detector in 1 × 1 field size. The differences become negligible as the field sizes increase and from 3 × 3 field size to 10 × 10 field size, the maximum observed differences are 2 cGy and 2.4 cGy for 5 cm and 10 cm depths, respectively. The results indicate that the penumbra widths are smaller in the Gantry-Target (GT) direction compared to the Right-Left (RL) direction. The maximum difference (47.6%) was observed for EPID in the 10 × 10 field size, and the minimum difference (16.6%) was observed for TPS in the 1 × 1 field size. Finally, 2D dose distributions obtained by EPID and TPS exhibit excellent agreement. Conclusion: EPID is an excellent tool for the measurement of dosimetry parameters such as dose profiles, penumbra widths, field sizes, and pretreatment verification of 2D dose distributions, especially in small fields. Purpose: Modern radiotherapy techniques often deliver small radiation fields. In this work, a practical Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) dosimetry protocol is adapted and applied to measure output factors (OF) in small fields of a 6 MV radiotherapy system. Correction factors and uncertainties are presented and OFs are compared to the values obtained by following TRS‐483 using an ionization chamber (IC). Methods: Irradiations were performed at 10 cm depth inside a water phantom positioned at 90 cm source to surface distance with a 6 MV flattening filter free photon beam of a Halcyon radiotherapy system. OFs for different nominal field sizes (1 × 1, 2 × 2, 3 × 3, 4 × 4, normalized to 10 × 10 cm2) were determined with a PinPoint 3D (PTW 31022) IC following TRS‐483 as well as with alanine pellets with a diameter of 4 mm and a height of 2.4 mm. EPR readout was performed with a benchtop X‐band spectrometer. Correction factors due to volume averaging and due to positional uncertainties were derived from 2D film measurements. Results: OFs obtained from both dosimeter types agreed within 0.7% after applying corrections for the volume averaging effect. For the used alanine pellets, volume averaging correction factors of 1.030(2) for the 1 × 1 cm2 field and <1.002 for the larger field sizes were determined. The correction factor for positional uncertainties of 1 mm was in the order of 1.018 for the 1 × 1 cm2 field. Combined relative standard uncertainties uc for the OFs resulting from alanine measurements were estimated to be below 1.5% for all field sizes. For IC measurements, uc was estimated to be below 1.0%. Conclusions: A practical EPR dosimetry protocol is adaptable for precisely measuring OFs in small fields down to 1 × 1 cm2. Background: Beam matching is widely used to ensure that linear accelerators used in radiotherapy have equal dosimetry characteristics. Small-field output factors (OF) were measured using different detectors infour beam-matched linear accelerators and the measured OFs were compared with existing treatment planning system (TPS) Monte Carlo algorithm calculated OFs. Materials and methods: Three Elekta Versa HDTM and one Elekta InfinityTMlinear accelerators with photon energies of 6 MV flattening filter (FF), 10 MVFF, 6 MV flattening filter free (FFF) and 10 MVFFF were used in this study. All the Linac’s were beam-matched, Dosimetry beam data were ± 1% compare with Reference Linac. Ten different type of detectors (four ion-izationchambers and six diode detectors) were used for small-field OF measurements.The OFs were measured for field sizes of 1 × 1 to 10 × 10 cm², and normalized to 10 × 10 cm² field size. The uncorrected and corrected OFs were calculated from these measurements. The corrected OF was compare with existing treatment planning system (TPS) Monte Carlo algorithm calculated OFs. Results: The small-field corrected and Uncorrected OF variations among the linear accelerators was within 1% for all energies and detectors. An increase in field size led to a reduction in the difference between OFs among the detectors, which was the case for all energies. The RSD values decreased with increasing field size. The TRS 483 provided Detector-specificoutputcorrection factor (OCF) reduced uncertainty in small-field measurements. Purpose: We aimed to investigate the dose calculation accuracy of Mobius3D for small-field flattening-filter-free x-rays, mainly utilized for stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). The accuracy of beam modeling and multileaf collimator (MLC) modeling in Mobius3D, significantly affecting the dose calculation is investigated. Methods: The commissioning procedures of Mobius3D were performed for unflattened 6 MV and 10 MV x-ray beams of the linear accelerator, including beam model adjustment and dosimetric leaf gap (DLG) optimization. An experimental study with artificial plans was conducted to evaluate the accuracy of small-field modeling. The dose calculation accuracy of Mobius3D was also evaluated for retrospective SBRT plans with multiple targets. Results: Both studies evaluated the dose calculation accuracy through comparisons with the measured data. Relatively large differences were observed for off-axis distances over 5 cm and for small fields less than 1 cm field size. For the study with artificial plans, the maximum absolute error of 9.96% for unflattened 6 MV and 9.07% for unflattened 10 MV was observed when the field size was 1 cm. For the study with patient plans, the mean gamma passing rate with 3%/3 mm gamma criterion was 63.6% for unflattened 6 MV and 82.6% for unflattened 10 MV. The maximum of the average dose difference was −19.9% for unflattened 6MV and −10.1% for unflattened 10MV. Conclusions: The dose calculation accuracy uncertainties of Mobius3D for small-field flattening-filter-free photon beams were observed. Objective: Current accepted linac Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines used for Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) suggest a mechanical isocentre tolerance level of 1 mm. However, this tolerance level has not been well established for the specific case of small field stereotactic VMAT. This study aims to evaluate the clinical impact of mechanical uncertainty on this treatment modality by modelling systematic gantry sag derived isocentre variance in the Treatment Planning System (TPS). Approach: A previously reported dataset of gantry sag values in the literature served as a starting point for this study. Using an in-house developed VMAT arc splitting algorithm, isocentre shifts were applied at a Control Point (CP) level to DICOM-RT treatment plans. Dose distributions for varying isocentre shift magnitudes were calculated for a set of 29 stereotactic VMAT plans using the Eclipse Acuros XB dose algorithm. These plans had a range of Planning Target Volume (PTV) sizes. A quantitative comparison of each plan was conducted by evaluating five Dose Volume Histogram (DVH)-derived plan quality metrics. Results: All metrics exhibited a deterioration in plan quality with increasing magnitudes of isocentre shift. At small PTV sizes, these effects were amplified, exhibiting significant changes at 1 mm of average shift when typical targets and tolerances were considered. For plans with PTVs between 0 and 5 cm3 , a 1 mm shift reduced PTV coverage by 6.6 ± 2.2% and caused a 12.1 ± 3.8% deterioration in the conformity index. Based on the results of this study, the prevalent tolerance of 1 mm may not be suitable for treatments of small PTVs with small fields. Significance: In contrast to commonly accepted values, an absolute mechanical isocentre of 0.5 mm with action level at 0.75 mm is recommended for stereotactic VMAT of PTV sizes below 10 cm3. . This study aims to evaluate the clinical impact of mechanical uncertainty on this treatment modality by modelling systematic gantry sag derived isocentre variance in the Treatment Planning System (TPS).ApproachA previously reported dataset of gantry sag values in the literature served as a starting point for this study. Using an in-house developed VMAT arc splitting algorithm, isocentre shifts were applied at a Control Point (CP) level to DICOM-RT treatment plans. Dose distributions for varying isocentre shift magnitudes were calculated for a set of 29 stereotactic VMAT plans using the Eclipse Acuros XB dose algorithm. These plans had a range of Planning Target Volume (PTV) sizes. A quantitative comparison of each plan was conducted by evaluating five Dose Volume Histogram (DVH)-derived plan quality metrics.ResultsAll metrics exhibited a deterioration in plan quality with increasing magnitudes of isocentre shift. At small PTV sizes, these effects were amplified, exhibiting significant changes at 1 mm of average shift when typical targets and tolerances were considered. For plans with PTVs between 0 and 5 cm3, a 1 mm shift reduced PTV coverage by 6.6 ± 2.2% and caused a 12.1 ± 3.8% deterioration in the conformity index. Based on the results of this study, the prevalent tolerance of 1 mm may not be suitable for treatments of small PTVs with small fields.SignificanceIn contrast to commonly accepted values, an absolute mechanical isocentre of 0.5 mm with action level at 0.75 mm is recommended for stereotactic VMAT of PTV sizes below 10 cm3.

With the advent of new radiotherapy modalities, it has become necessary to apply relatively small fields that are dynamic or static. The use of these field sizes can cause uncertainty in dosimetry, requiring special attention in small field dosimetry. With these mentioned challenges, it is difficult to select a detector with good performance for dosimetry in small fields. TLDs have advantages because they have characteristics such as high spatial resolution and dose response, they offer a promising opportunity to measure the absorbed dose in a small field. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of CaSO 4 :Dy, LiF:Mg,Ti and μLiF:Mg,Ti thermoluminescent dosimeters for clinical photon beams in small field dosimetry using a 3D printed phantom. For clinical application the 6EX linear accelerator from Varian Medical System and the Multillif collimator from BrainLab were used. The 3D printed phantom was subjected to real treatment conditions. The dynamic arc 3D radiosurgery technique was adopted, with a dose of 7 Gy. To decrease statistical variation, the treatment simulation was repeated three times for each dosimeter. The results obtained demonstrated the viability of TLDs for clinical applications from photon beams to small fields. The values showed agreement in percentage terms below ±5% as recommended by the ICRU. The greatest percentage difference found was 1.2% (LiF:Mg;Ti) in relation to the planning system. All thermoluminescent dosimeters presented an uncertainty relatively low, with good stability and reproducibility in all measurements. Background: The use of small fields has increased by the emergence of advanced radiotherapy. Dose calculations of these fields are complex and challenging for many reasons such as lack of electrical equilibrium even in homogeneous environments, and this complexity will increase in presence of heterogeneity. According to the importance of delivery the accurate prescription dose to the target volume in the patient’s body, the dose calculation accuracy of used commercial algorithms in clinical treatment planning systems (TPS) should be evaluated. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the accuracy of Collapsed-Cone dose measurement algorithm in Isogray treatment planning system.Material and Methods: In this analytical study, the measurements were made in tissue equivalent solid water phantom with lung and bone heterogeneities by Pinpoint dosimeter (0.015 cm3 sensitive volume) in several radiation fields (1×1 to 5×5 cm2). The phantoms were irradiated with 6, 10 and 18 MV photon beams and finally, the results of experimental calculations were compared with treatment planning outputs. Results: In all setups, the maximum deviation occurred in the field of 1×1 cm2. Then, the maximum deviation was observed for 2×2 cm2 field size; however, it was up to 5% for homogeneous water phantom and lung heterogeneity. In 3×3 cm2 and larger fields, there was a good agreement between the results of the TPS and experimental dosimetry. The maximum deviation was observed in water-bone heterogeneity. Conclusion: This algorithm was able to pass the standard audit criteria, but it is better to be used more cautiously in bone heterogeneity, especially in low energies.

Purpose: The equivalent square (ES) concept has been used for traditional radiation fields defined by the machine collimating system. For small fields, the concept Sclin was introduced based on measuring dosimetric field width (full‐width half maximum, FWHM) of the cardinal axis of the beam profiles. The pros and cons of this concept are evaluated in small fields and compared with the traditional ES using area and perimeter (4A/P) method based on geometric field size settings, for example, light field settings. Methods: One hundred thirty‐seven square and rectangular fields from 5–50 mm with every possible permutation (keeping one jaw fixed and varying other jaw from 5 to 50 mm) were utilized to measure FWHM for the validation of Sclin. Using a microSilicon detector and a scanning water tank, measurements were performed on an Elekta (Versa) machine with Agility head and a Varian TrueBeam with different MLC/Jaw design to evaluate the Sclin concept and to understand the effect of exchange factor in small fields. Field output factors were also measured for all 137 fields. Results: The data fitting for fields ranging from 5–50 mm between the traditional 4A/P method and Sclin shows differences and indicates a linear relationship with distinct separation of slope for Elekta and Varian machines. For Elekta Agility machine ES based on 4A/P < Sclin and for the VarianTrueBeam 4A/P > Sclin for square fields. Our measured data show that both methods are equally valid but does vary by the machine design. The field output factor is dependent on the elongation factor as well as machine design. For fields with sides ≥10 mm, the exchange factor is nearly identical in both machines with magnitude up to 4%, which is close to measurement uncertainty (±3%), but for small fields (< 10 mm), the Elekta machine has higher exchange factors compared to the Varian machine. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that the two concepts for defining equivalent field (Sclin and 4A/P) are equivalent and can be directly related through an empirical equation. This study confirms that 4A/P is still valid for small fields except for very small fields (≤10 mm) where source occlusion is a dominating factor. The Sclin method is potentially sensitive to measurement uncertainty due to measurement of FWHM which is machine‐, detector‐ and user‐dependent, while the 4A/P method relies mainly on geometry of the machine and has less dependency on type of machine, detector, and user. The exchange factors are comparable for both types of machines. The conclusion is based on data from an Elekta with Agility head and a Varian TrueBeam machine that may have potential for bias due to light field/collimator set up and alignment. Abstract It is very difficult to deal with the problem of error correction in random network coding, especially when the number of errors is more than the min-cut of the network. We combine a small field with rank-metric codes to solve this problem in this paper. With a small finite field, original errors are compressed to propagated errors, and their number is smaller than the min-cut. Rank-metric codes are introduced to correct the propagated errors, while the minimum rank distance of the rank-metric code is hardly influenced by the small field. It is the first time to correct errors more than the min-cut in network coding with our method using a small field. This new error-correcting algorithm is very useful for the environment such as a wireless sensor network where network coding can be applied.

Purpose . To investigate the effect of the position and orientation of the detector and its influence on the determination of output factors (OF) for small fields for a linear accelerator (MR-linac) integrated with 1.5 T magnetic resonance following the TRS-483 formalism. Methods . OF were measured for small fields in the central axis following the recommendations of the manufacturer and at the dose maximum following the TRS-483 formalism. OF were determined using a microDiamond (MD), a Semiflex (SF) 31021 ionization chamber, Gafchromic EBT3 film and were calculated in Monaco treatment planning system (TPS). Additionally, the orientation response of SF was evaluated, placing it in parallel and perpendicular direction to the radiation beam. The values were compared taking film measurements as reference. The corrected factors,ΩQclinical,msrfclinical,msr, required the use of output correction factorkQclinical,msrfclinical,msrtaken from previous reports. Finally, there are proposed experimentalkQclinical,msrfclinical,msrfor SF and MD, following the measured values in this work. Results . In fields smaller than 4 cm, the positioning of the SF and MD in the central axis or at the point of dose maximum affects the reading significantly with differences of up to 6% and 4%, respectively. For the data calculated in the TPS, the maximum difference of the OF between MD and TPS for fields greater than 2 cm was 0.6% and below this field size the TPS underestimates the OF up to 10.6%. The orientation (parallel or perpendicular) of the SF regarding the radiation beam has a considerable impact on the OF for fields smaller than 3 cm, showing a variation up to 10% for the field of 0.5 cm. Conclusion . This study provides valuable information on the challenges and limitations of measuring output factors in small fields. Background: The presence of heterogeneity within the radiation field increases the challenges of small field dosimetry. In this study, the performance of MAGIC polymer gel was evaluated in the dosimetry of small fields beyond bone heterogeneity. Materials and methods: Circular field sizes of 5, 10, 20 and 30 mm were used and Polytetrafluoroethylene with density of 2.2 g/cm3 was used as the bone equivalent material. The PDD curves, beam profiles, and penumbra widths were measured using MAGIC polymer gel, EBT2 film, and Monte Carlo simulation. Results: The maximum differences between MAGIC and EBT2 are 6.1, 4.7, 2.4, and 2.2 for PDD curves at 5, 10, 20, and 30 mm circular fields, respectively. The dose differences and distance to agreement between MAGIC and MC were within 1.89%/0.46 mm, 1.66%/0.43 mm, 1.28%/0.77 mm, and 1.31%/0.81 mm for beam profile values behind bone heterogeneity at 5, 10, 20, and 30 mm field sizes, respectively. Statistical analyses were performed to evaluate the correlation between the differences in these parameters and the PTV. Results: The V50%, R50%, D2cm, and V20Gy, D1,500cc, and D1,000cc of the lung showed a statistically significant improvement in JT plans as opposed to FJ plans, while the number of MU in JT plans was higher by an average of 1.9%. Between FJ and JT plans, the PTV was strongly correlated with the differences in V50%, moderately correlated with those in V20Gy of the lung, and weakly correlated with those in D2cm and D1,500cc of the lung. By using JT, %SS was found to be negatively correlated with the PTV, and the PTV should be at least approximately 12.5 cc for an expected %SS <50%, which was 15 cc for a %SS <20% and 20 cc for a %SS <5%. Conclusions: Considering the dosimetric differences and small-field uncertainties, JT could be selected using a PTV threshold, such as 12.5, 15, or 20 cc, on the basis of the demand of delivery reliability for lung SBRT. PurposeThe purpose of this study is to establish and assess a practical delivery quality assurance method for stereotactic radiosurgery with Cyberknife by analyzing the geometric and dosimetric accuracies obtained using a PTW31016 PinPoint ionization chamber and EBT3 films. Moreover, this study also explores the relationship between the parameters of plan complexity, target volume, and deliverability parameters and provides a valuable reference for improving plan optimization and validation.MethodsOne hundred fifty cases of delivery quality assurance plans were performed on Cyberknife to assess point dose and planar dose distribution, respectively, using a PTW31016 PinPoint ionization chamber and Gafchromic EBT3 films. The measured chamber doses were compared with the planned mean doses in the sensitive volume of the chamber, and the measured planar doses were compared with the calculated dose distribution using gamma index analysis. The gamma passing rates were evaluated using the criteria of 3%/1 mm and 2%/2 mm. The statistical significance of the correlations between the complexity metrics, target volume, and the gamma passing rate were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient.ResultsFor point dose comparison, the averaged dose differences (± standard deviations) were 1.6 ± 0.73% for all the cases. For planar dose distribution, the mean gamma passing rate for 3%/1 mm, and 2%/2 mm evaluation criteria were 94.26% ± 1.89%, and 93.86% ± 2.16%, respectively. The gamma passing rates were higher than 90% for all the delivery quality assurance plans with the criteria of 3%/1 mm and 2%/2 mm. The difference in point dose was lowly correlated with volume of PTV, number of beams, and treatment time for 150 DQA plans, and highly correlated with volume of PTV for 18 DQA plans of small target. DQA gamma passing rate (2%/2 mm) was a moderate significant correlation for the number of nodes, number of beams and treatment time, and a low correlation with MU.ConclusionPTW31016 PinPoint ionization chamber and EBT3 film can be used for routine Cyberknife delivery quality assurance. The point dose difference should be within 3%. The gamma passing rate should be higher than 90% for the criteria of 3%/1 mm and 2%/2 mm. Purpose: We have experimentally and computationally characterized the PTW microSilicon 60023‐type diode's performance in 6 and 15 MV photon fields ≥5 × 5 mm2 projected to isocenter. We tested the detector on‐ and off‐axis at 5 and 15 cm depths in water, and investigated whether its response could be improved by including within it a thin airgap. Methods: Experimentally, detector readings were taken in fields generated by a Varian TrueBeam linac and compared with doses‐to‐water measured using Gafchromic film and ionization chambers. An unmodified 60023‐type diode was tested along with detectors modified to include 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 mm thick airgaps. Computationally, doses absorbed by water and detectors' sensitive volumes were calculated using the EGSnrc/BEAMnrc Monte Carlo radiation transport code. Detector response was characterized using kQclin,4cmfclin,4cm, a factor that corrects for differences in the ratio of dose‐to‐water to detector reading between small fields and the reference condition, in this study 5 cm deep on‐axis in a 4 × 4 cm2 field. Results: The greatest errors in measurements of small field doses made using uncorrected readings from the unmodified 60023‐type detector were over‐responses of 2.6% ± 0.5% and 5.3% ± 2.0% determined computationally and experimentally, relative to the reading‐per‐dose in the reference field. Corresponding largest errors for the earlier 60017‐type detector were 11.9% ± 0.6% and 11.7% ± 1.4% over‐responses. Adding even the thinnest, 0.6 mm, airgap to the 60023‐type detector over‐corrected it, leading to under‐responses of up to 4.8% ± 0.6% and 5.0% ± 1.8% determined computationally and experimentally. Further, Monte Carlo calculations indicate that a detector with a 0.3 mm airgap would read correctly to within 1.3% on‐axis. The ratio of doses at 15 and 5 cm depths in water in a 6 MV 4 × 4 cm2 field was measured more accurately using the unmodified 60023‐type detector than using the 60017‐type detector, and was within 0.3% of the ratio measured using an ion chamber. The 60023‐type diode's sensitivity also varied negligibly as dose‐rate was reduced from 13 to 4 Gy min–1 by decreasing the linac pulse repetition frequency, whereas the sensitivity of the 60017‐type detector fell by 1.5%. Conclusions: The 60023‐type detector performed well in small fields across a wide range of beam energies, field sizes, depths, and off‐axis positions. Small‐field dosimetry used in advance treatment technologies poses challenges due to loss of lateral charged particle equilibrium (LCPE), occlusion of the primary photon source, and the limited choice of suitable radiation detectors. These challenges greatly influence dosimetric accuracy. Many high‐profile radiation incidents have demonstrated a poor understanding of appropriate methodology for small‐field dosimetry. These incidents are a cause for concern because the use of small fields in various specialized radiation treatment techniques continues to grow rapidly. Reference and relative dosimetry in small and composite fields are the subject of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) dosimetry code of practice that has been published as TRS‐483 and an AAPM summary publication (IAEA TRS 483; Dosimetry of small static fields used in external beam radiotherapy: An IAEA/AAPM International Code of Practice for reference and relative dose determination, Technical Report Series No. 483; Palmans et al., Med Phys 45(11):e1123, 2018). The charge of AAPM task group 155 (TG‐155) is to summarize current knowledge on small‐field dosimetry and to provide recommendations of best practices for relative dose determination in small megavoltage photon beams. An overview of the issue of LCPE and the changes in photon beam perturbations with decreasing field size is provided. Recommendations are included on appropriate detector systems and measurement methodologies. Existing published data on dosimetric parameters in small photon fields (e.g., percentage depth dose, tissue phantom ratio/tissue maximum ratio, off‐axis ratios, and field output factors) together with the necessary perturbation corrections for various detectors are reviewed. A discussion on errors and an uncertainty analysis in measurements is provided. The design of beam models in treatment planning systems to simulate small fields necessitates special attention on the influence of the primary beam source and collimating devices in the computation of energy fluence and dose. The general requirements for fluence and dose calculation engines suitable for modeling dose in small fields are reviewed. Implementations in commercial treatment planning systems vary widely, and the aims of this report are to provide insight for the medical physicist and guidance to developers of beams models for radiotherapy treatment planning systems. Proton-based stereotactic radiosurgery (PSRS) holds promise for treating benign tumours, with patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) playing a crucial role in ensuring high-quality clinical services. EBT3 films are a perfect tool for PSQA, particularly owing to their compatibility with small-field dosimetry. However, a successful absolute EBT3 dosimetry relies on detailed dose calibration, consuming much time and films. A novel approach has been developed in this study and tested to establish a calibration curve using a single sheet of EBT3 radiochromic films exposed to six multi-leaf collimator (MLC) fields. Notably, this method allows for the completion of a calibration curve in just 15 min, enabling the practical generation of new EBT3 calibrations daily. This single-sheet approach can generate a dose calibration curve with an error of less than 1.5% across the entire dose range and is well agreed to by traditional multi-film calibrations involving large fields, with a discrepancy of less than 0.8%. • PSRS provides accurate high doses to target areas while protecting OARs. • High-resolution EBT3 films are often used for PS QA in PSRS. • This calibration aligns with the traditional one, yet is notably swifter. • Daily calibration is facilitated by this calibration. Introduction: Penumbra is an important property of the radiation beam to obtain a suitable margin surrounding the target volume. Therefore, the precise penumbra width determination in stereotactic radiotherapy is necessary for treatment planning. This study aimed to compare the obtained results of penumbra width by in-house and standard circular cones by different dosimeters, as well as evaluating the function of EBT3 for dosimetric properties of the small field radiation. Material and Methods: Different circular cones were mounted on the head of the accelerator to produce 12, 20, and 40 mm field sizes at isocenter. Dosimetric measurements were performed with the EBT3 film, PinPoint ion chamber. Afterwards, MCNPX Monte Carlo simulation was used to evaluate the dosimetric parameters. Results: According to the obtained results, the penumbra width was increased by larger diameters of circular cones. The obtained measured data by PinPoint ion chamber showed a larger penumbra width compared to those calculated by Monte Carlo at all field sizes. The gamma index analysis revealed distance-to-agreement and dose-difference of 2 mm /2%/ at all points. The results of this study showed that source to diaphragm distance had a major role in penumbra size determination of small field dosimetry with PinPoint ion chamber, EBT3 film, and Monte Carlo simulation. Conclusion: As findings of this study reported, EBT3 films are reliable detectors for relative dosimetry due to high spatial resolution for small field sizes. Furthermore, they can be used for measuring beam profile and percentage depth dose curves.

Many new X-Ray treatment machines using small and/or non-standard radiation fields, e.g., Tomotherapy, Cyber-knife, and linear accelerators equipped with high-resolution multi-leaf collimators and on-board imaging system, have been introduced in the radiotherapy clinical routine within the last few years. The introduction of these new treatment modalities has led to the development of high conformal radiotherapy treatment techniques like Intensity Modulated photon Radiation Therapy, Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy. When using these treatment techniques, patients are exposed to non-uniform radiation fields, high dose gradients, time and space variation of dose rates, and beam energy spectrum. This makes reaching the required degree of accuracy in clinical dosimetry even more demanding. Continuing to use standard field procedures and detectors in fields smaller than 3 × 3 cm2, will generate a reduced accuracy of clinical dosimetry, running the risk to overshadowing the progress made so far in radiotherapy applications. These dosimetric issues represent a new challenge for medical physicists. To choose the most appropriate detector for small field dosimetry, different features must be considered. Short- and long-term stability, linear response to the absorbed dose and dose rate, no energy and angular dependence, are all needed but not sufficient. The two most sought-after attributes for small field dosimetry are water equivalence and small highly sensitive (high sensitivity) volumes. Both these requirements aim at minimizing perturbations of charged particle fluence approaching the Charged Particle Equilibrium condition as much as possible, while maintaining high spatial resolution by reducing the averaging effect for non-uniform radiation fields. A compromise between different features is necessary because no dosimeter currently fulfills all requirements, but diamond properties seem promising and could lead to a marked improvement. Diamonds have long been used as materials for dosimeters, but natural diamonds were only first used for medical applications in the 80 s. The availability of reproducible synthetic diamonds at a lower cost compared to natural ones made the diffusion of diamonds in dosimetry possible. This paper aims to review the use of synthetic poly and single-crystal diamond dosimeters in radiotherapy, focusing on their performance under MegaVoltage photon beams. Both commercial and prototype diamond dosimeters behaviour are described and analyzed. Moreover, this paper will report the main related results in literature, considering diamond development issues like growth modalities, electrical contacts, packaging, readout electronics, and how do they affect all the dosimetric parameters of interest such as signal linearity, energy dependence, dose-rate dependence, reproducibility, rise and decay times.

Purpose: Radiochromic film has been established as a detector that can be used without the need for perturbation correction factors for small field dosimetry in water. However, perturbation factors in low density media such as lung have yet to be published. This study calculated the factors required to account for the perturbation of radiochromic film when used for small field dosimetry in lung equivalent material. Method: Monte Carlo simulations were used to calculate dose to Gafchromic EBT3 film when placed inside a lung phantom. The beam simulated had a nominal energy of 6 MV and the field sizes simulated ranged from 10 × 10 mm2 to 30 × 30 mm2. The lung density simulated was varied between 0.2 and 0.3 g/cm3. Each simulation was repeated with the film replaced by lung material (the same as the surrounding medium), and the required correction factors for film dosimetry in lung (DMed,QDDet,Q) were calculated by dividing the dose in lung by the dose in film. Results: For field sizes 30 × 30 mm2 and larger, no correction factors were required. At a 20 × 20 mm2 field size, small corrections were required, but were within the approximate accuracy of film dosimetry (~2%). For a 10 × 10 mm2 field size, significant correction factors need to be applied (0.935 for lung density of 0.20 g/cm3 to 0.963 for lung density of 0.30 g/cm3). The values lower than one mean that the film is over‐responding. At the "upstream" lung‐water interface the correction factors were close to unity; while at the downstream interface the corrections required were marginally smaller to those at the center of lung. One centimeter or more away from the interfaces, the correction factor did not vary as a function distance from the interface (in the beam direction). Away from the central axis (perpendicular to the beam direction), the correction factors increased slightly (away from unity) as a function of off‐axis distance, before abruptly changing direction at the penumbra, with the film actually under‐responding by ~10% outside the field edges. Conclusion: Accurate dosimetry of very small fields (15 × 15 mm2 or smaller) using radiochromic film requires correction factors for the perturbation of the film on the surrounding lung material. This correction factor was as high as 6.5% for a 10 × 10 mm2 field size and a density of 0.2 g/cm3. This will increase if either the density or the field size decrease further. Background: The use of small fields has increased by the emergence of advanced radiotherapy. Dose calculations of these fields are complex and challenging for many reasons such as lack of electrical equilibrium even in homogeneous environments, and this complexity will increase in presence of heterogeneity. According to the importance of delivery the accurate prescription dose to the target volume in the patient's body, the dose calculation accuracy of used commercial algorithms in clinical treatment planning systems (TPS) should be evaluated. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the accuracy of Collapsed-cone dose measurement algorithm in Isogray treatment planning system. Material and Methods: In this analytical study, the measurements were made in tissue equivalent solid water phantom with lung and bone heterogeneities by Pinpoint dosimeter (0.015 cm³ sensitive volume) in several radiation fields (1×1 to 5×5 cm²). The phantoms were irradiated with 6, 10 and 18 MV photon beams and finally, the results of experimental calculations were compared with treatment planning outputs. Results: In all setups, the maximum deviation occurred in the field of 1×1 cm². Then, the maximum deviation was observed for 2×2 cm² field size; however, it was up to 5% for homogeneous water phantom and lung heterogeneity. In 3×3 cm² and larger fields, there was a good agreement between the results of the TPS and experimental dosimetry. The maximum deviation was observed in water-bone heterogeneity. Conclusion: This algorithm was able to pass the standard audit criteria, but it is better to be used more cautiously in bone heterogeneity, especially in low energies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose/Objective . Small-field measurement poses challenges. Although many high-resolution detectors are commercially available, the EPID for small-field dosimetry remains underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of EPID for small-field measurements and to derive tailored correction factors for precise small-field dosimetry verification. Material/Methods . Six high-resolution radiation detectors, including W2 and W1 plastic scintillators, Edge-detector, microSilicon, microDiamond and EPID were utilized. The output factors, depth doses and profiles, were measured for various beam energies (6 MV-FF, 6 MV-FFF, 10 MV-FF, and 10 MV-FFF) and field sizes (10 × 10 cm 2 , 5 × 5 cm 2 , 4 × 4 cm 2 , 3 × 3 cm 2 , 2 × 2 cm 2 , 1 × 1 cm 2 , 0.5 × 0.5 cm 2 ) using a Varian Truebeam linear accelerator. During measurements, acrylic plates of appropriate depth were placed on the EPID, while a 3D water tank was used with five-point detectors. EPID measured data were compared with W2 plastic scintillator and measurements from other high-resolution detectors. The analysis included percentage deviations in output factors, differences in percentage for PDD and for the profiles, FWHM, maximum difference in the flat region, penumbra, and 1D gamma were analyzed. The output factor and depth dose ratios were fitted using exponential functions and fractional polynomial fitting in STATA 16.2, with W2 scintillator as reference, and corresponding formulae were obtained. The established correction factors were validated using two Truebeam machines. Results . When comparing EPID and W2-PSD across all field-sizes and energies, the deviation for output factors ranged from 1% to 15%. Depth doses, the percentage difference beyond dmax ranged from 1% to 19%. For profiles, maximum of 4% was observed in the 100%-80% region. The correction factor formulae were validated with two independent EPIDs and closely matched within 3%. Conclusion . One of the recent trends in radiation therapy is to increase conformal and accurate dose delivery such as in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Treating small lesions and brain disorders requires the accurate placement of small radiation fields deep inside the human cranium. To design a collimator meeting these requirements, a new numerical concept was developed, which is presented here. The algorithm proposed here can generate beam profiles of plural collimation apertures and arbitrary initial beam spot distributions in a time-efficient method. It is an ideal tool to optimize collimator design for penumbra, dose rate, and field size. The intensity of the source beam spot is divided into slices, and each slice is projected onto the treatment plane at the isocenter through the collimator apertures. The illuminated field range and intensity are determined by geometry and the intensity of that slice of beam source, respectively. By integrating the projected intensity across all the slices of the source profile, the profile on the treatment plane is obtained. The algorithm is used to generate beam profiles of a conical pencil beam collimator system and compare them to the Monte Carlo simulation as well as measurements. It can also be used to demonstrate the impact of collimator shape on the beam penumbra, dose rate, and field size. The projection integration method provides a quick and informative tool for collimator design. The results were validated with the Monte Carlo simulation and measurements. The usage of dosimetry of small fields in radiotherapy to measure radiation dose is difficult because of high-dose gradients, lateral electronic disequilibrium, and detector volume effects. In this study, three dosimeters namely, Markus, Semiflex 3D, and Diode E were tested using the Elekta-accelerator electron beams. The electron beam parameters, penumbra, and output factor were determined using these dosimeters for each field size and energy. According to the results, Diode E and Advanced Markus exhibited the greatest difference in Rq among the electron beam parameters. Furthermore, the greatest difference in penumbra was observed between Diode E and Advanced Markus for the field size of 3 cm2 at 10 MeV. In terms of output factor, three dosimeters exhibited the greatest difference between Diode E and Advanced Markus for the field size of 3 cm2 at 10 MeV. The findings indicate that the Semiflex 3D can be regarded as an appropriate dosimeter for electron small-field dosimetry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of this study is the experimental and Monte Carlo‐based determination of small field correction factors for the unshielded silicon detector microSilicon for a standard linear accelerator as well as the Cyberknife System. In addition, a detailed Monte Carlo analysis has been performed by modifying the detector models stepwise to study the influences of the detector's components. Methods: Small field output correction factors have been determined for the new unshielded silicon diode detector, microSilicon (type 60023, PTW Freiburg, Germany) as well as for the predecessors Diode E (type 60017, PTW Freiburg, Germany) and Diode SRS (type 60018, PTW Freiburg, Germany) for a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator at 6 MV and a Cyberknife system. For the experimental determination, an Exradin W1 scintillation detector (Standard Imaging, Middleton, USA) has been used as reference. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed with EGSnrc and phase space files from IAEA as well as detector models according to manufacturer blueprints. To investigate the influence of the detector's components, the detector models have been modified stepwise. Results: The correction factors for the smallest field size investigated at the TrueBeam linear accelerator (equivalent dosimetric square field side length Sclin = 6.3 mm) are 0.983 and 0.939 for the microSilicon and Diode E, respectively. At the Cyberknife system, the correction factors of the microSilicon are 0.967 at the smallest 5‐mm collimator compared to 0.928 for the Diode SRS. Monte Carlo simulations show comparable results from the measurements and literature. Conclusion: The microSilicon (type 60023) detector requires less correction than its predecessors, Diode E (type 60017) and Diode SRS (type 60018). The detector housing has been demonstrated to cause the largest perturbation, mainly due to the enhanced density of the epoxy encapsulation surrounding the silicon chip. This density has been rendered more water equivalent in case of the microSilicon detector to minimize the associated perturbation. The sensitive volume itself has been shown not to cause observable field size‐dependent perturbation except for the volume‐averaging effect, where the slightly larger diameter of the sensitive volume of the microSilicon (1.5 mm) is still small at the smallest field size investigated with corrections <2%. The new microSilicon fulfils the 5% correction limit recommended by the TRS 483 for output factor measurements at all conditions investigated in this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is very difficult to deal with the problem of error correction in random network coding, especially when the number of errors is more than the min-cut of the network. We combine a small field with rank-metric codes to solve this problem in this paper. With a small finite field, original errors are compressed to propagated errors, and their number is smaller than the min-cut. Rank-metric codes are introduced to correct the propagated errors, while the minimum rank distance of the rank-metric code is hardly influenced by the small field. It is the first time to correct errors more than the min-cut in network coding with our method using a small field. This new error-correcting algorithm is very useful for the environment such as a wireless sensor network where network coding can be applied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Amateur small-field football tournaments are rather common worldwide. Adequate preparation is essential for injury prevention. The consequences of insufficient injury preparation at this level are still unclear. This study investigates the factors influencing injuries in this football population.Materials and Methods: In 2017, medical students participating in a national amateur football tournament were analysed in a prospective cohort study. Injury incidence, injury pattern and factors influencing injuries were investigated according to the statement on data collection and injury definition of Fuller et al. (Br J Sports Med 40:193-201, 2006). Preparation for the tournament was assessed for both sexes by means of hours of sleep, alcohol consumption, training level and warm-up performance.Level Of Evidence: II.Results: Of 694 amateur football players (423 men and 271 women) with a mean age of 23 years (SD 2.5), 321 (21.1%) injuries happened during the tournament. 60% of injuries affected the lower extremity. The most common types of traumatic injury were skin abrasions (40.0%) and muscle strains (23.3%). The injury incidence of male players during match exposure was 469 per 1000 h football and significantly higher than in female players 313 (p = 0.025). One potential reason for the higher injury rate of male players as measure for inadequate preparation was significantly higher alcohol consumption the evening before the tournament (p < 0.001) and the after-effects on match day (p < 0.001). Additionally, male players reported less and inadequate sleep the night before the tournament (p < 0.007) and a lower warm-up rate before the matches compared to female players (p < 0.001).Conclusions: Small-field tournaments in football have a high injury incidence. Male players have a higher injury incidence than female players and show additionally a lack of sleep and alcohol consumption the night before the tournament and poor warm-up performance on match day. Irradiating a tumor bed with boost dose after whole breast irradiation helps reducing the probability of local recurrence. However, the success of electron beam treatment with a small area aiming to cover a superficial lesion is a dual challenge as it requires an adequate dosimetry beside a double check for dose coverage with an estimation of various combined uncertainty of tumor location and losing lateral electron equilibrium within small field dimensions. this work aims to measure the electron beam fluence within different field dimensions and the deviation from measurement performed in standard square electron applicator beam flatness and symmetry, then to calculate the average range of the correction factor required to overcome the loss of lateral electron equilibrium. the electron beam used in this work generated from the linear accelerator model ELEKTA Precise and dosimetry system used were a pair of PTW Pin Point ion chambers for electron beam dosimetry at standard conditions and assessment of beam quality at a reference depth of measurement, with an automatic water phantom, then a Roos ion chamber was used for absolute dose measurement, and PTW 2Darray to investigate the beam fluence of four applicators 6, 10, 14 and 20 cm2 and 4 rectangular cutouts 6 × 14, 8 × 14, 6 × 17 and 8 × 17 cm2, the second part was clinical application which was performed in a precise treatment planning system and examined boost dose after whole breast irradiation. revealed that lower energy (6MeV and 8MeV) showed the loss of lateral electron equilibrium and deviation from measurements of a standard applicator more than the high energy (15 MeV) which indicated that the treatment of superficial dose with 6MeV required higher monitor unit to allow for the loss of lateral electron equilibrium and higher margin as well. Purpose: The goal of the present work was to provide a large set of detector‐specific output correction factors for seven small volume ionization chambers on two linear accelerators in four megavoltage photon beams utilizing perpendicular and parallel orientation of ionization chambers in the beam for nominal field sizes ranging from 0.5 cm2 × 0.5 cm2 to 10 cm2 × 10 cm2. The present study is the second part of an extensive research conducted by our group. Methods: Output correction factors kQclin,Qreffclin,fref were experimentally determined on two linacs, Elekta Versa HD and Varian TrueBeam for 6 and 10 MV beams with and without flattening filter for nine square fields ranging from 0.5 cm2 × 0.5 cm2 to 10 cm2 × 10 cm2, for seven mini and micro ionization chambers, IBA CC04, IBA Razor, PTW 31016 3D PinPoint, PTW 31021 3D Semiflex, PTW 31022 3D PinPoint, PTW 31023 PinPoint, and SI Exradin A16. An Exradin W1 plastic scintillator and EBT3 radiochromic films were used as the reference detectors. Results: For all ionization chambers, values of output correction factors kQclin,Qreffclin,fref were lower for parallel orientation compared to those obtained in the perpendicular orientation. Five ionization chambers from our study set, IBA Razor, PTW 31016 3D PinPoint, PTW 31022 3D PinPoint, PTW 31023 PinPoint, and SI Exradin A16, fulfill the requirement recommended in the TRS‐483 Code of Practice, that is, 0.95

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of beam configuration with inaccurate or incomplete small field output factors on the accuracy of dose calculations in treatment planning systems. Methods: Output factors were measured using various detectors and for a range of field sizes. Three types of treatment machines were configured in two treatment planning systems. In the first (corrected) machine, the Exradin W1 scintillator was used to determine output factors. In the second (uncorrected) machine, the measured output factors by the A1SL ion chamber without considering output correction factors for small field sizes were utilized. In the third (clinical) machine, measured output factors by the Exradin W1 were used but not for field sizes smaller than 2 × 2 cm2. The dose computed by the anisotropic analytical algorithm (AAA), Acuros XB (AXB) and collapsed cone convolution/superposition (CCC) algorithms in the three machines were delivered using static (jaw‐, MLC‐, and jaw/MLC‐defined), and composite [intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT)] fields. The differences between measured and calculated dose values were analyzed. Results: For static fields, the percentage differences between measured and calculated doses by the three algorithms in three configured machines were <2% for field sizes larger than 2 × 2 cm2. In jaw‐ and jaw/MLC‐defined fields smaller than 2 × 2 cm2, the corrected machine presented better agreement with measurement. Considering output correction factors in MLC‐defined fields, among the three configured machines, the accuracy of calculation improved to within ±0.5%. For MLC‐defined field size of 1 × 1 cm2, AXB showed the smallest percentage difference (1%). In IMRT and VMAT plans, the percentage differences between measured and calculated doses at the isocenter, as well as the gamma analysis of different plans, which include field sizes larger than 3 × 3 cm2, did not vary noticeably. For smaller field sizes, using the corrected machine influences dose calculation accuracy. Conclusion: Configuration with corrected output factors improves accuracy of dose calculation for static field sizes smaller than 2 × 2 cm2. For very small fields, the robustness of the dose calculation algorithm affects the accuracy of dose as well. In IMRT and VMAT plans, which include small subfields, the size of the jaw‐defined field is an important factor and using corrected output factors increases dose calculation accuracy. The objective of this study is to analyze small field photon beams acquired with commonly available detectors. Beam profiles of 6 MV photons from the Siemens Primus Linear Accelerator were measured with a micro ion chamber (IC CC01, IBA) and linear diode array (LDA-99SC, IBA). Data was acquired using a water phantom for small fields (0.5×0.5 cm2 to 4×4 cm2) at depth of maximum dose, 5 cm and 10 cm. Profiles were also generated with EGSnrc Monte Carlo code. Measured and simulated profiles were compared in terms of percentage difference of the area under the simulated and measured profiles (PD), ratio of the measured to simulated dose at the point of maximum deviation within the central region of profile (R), full width half maximum (FWHM) and penumbra. For field sizes ≥1×1 cm2, the maximum PD is 3.17 % and 2.87 % for IC and LDA respectively, whereas R is in the range of 0.95–1.05 for IC and 0.99–1.05 for LDA. LDA measured FWHM and penumbra are also in better agreement with the simulated results. This study demonstrated that LDA can be used for acquisition of beam profiles for field size as low as 1×1 cm2. Introduction: Penumbra is an important property of the radiation beam to obtain a suitable margin surrounding the target volume. Therefore, the precise penumbra width determination in stereotactic radiotherapy is necessary for treatment planning. This study aimed to compare the obtained results of penumbra width by in-house and standard circular cones by different dosimeters, as well as evaluating the function of EBT3 for dosimetric properties of the small field radiation. Material and Methods: Different circular cones were mounted on the head of the accelerator to produce 12, 20, and 40 mm field sizes at isocenter. Dosimetric measurements were performed with the EBT3 film, PinPoint ion chamber. Afterwards, MCNPX Monte Carlo simulation was used to evaluate the dosimetric parameters. Results: According to the obtained results, the penumbra width was increased by larger diameters of circular cones. The obtained measured data by PinPoint ion chamber showed a larger penumbra width compared to those calculated by Monte Carlo at all field sizes. The gamma index analysis revealed distance-to-agreement and dose-difference of 2 mm /2%/ at all points. The results of this study showed that source to diaphragm distance had a major role in penumbra size determination of small field dosimetry with PinPoint ion chamber, EBT3 film, and Monte Carlo simulation. Conclusion: As findings of this study reported, EBT3 films are reliable detectors for relative dosimetry due to high spatial resolution for small field sizes.
