In this article I present the thesis of the original technicality of man proposed by the French philosopher Bernard Stiegler, who passed away in 2020. Stiegler's thought is undergoing continuous re-elaboration due to the singularity of the proposed theses deriving from studies of contemporary anthropology and philosophy. The research method used is subjective-argumentative and interpretive. Reading Stiegler's texts lends itself well to a functional interpretation of the thesis according to which digital technologies are natural prostheses for 21st century students. With the subjective-argumentative methodological approach I can reach a specific goal: demonstrating how the use of digital devices is to be considered an educational asset starting from Stiegler’s philosophy. He makes us understand how the original technicality is decisive for cognitive development. Moreover, the subjective-argumentative approach, as little objective as it may be, offers the flexibility to support a contemporary educational theory such as George Siemens’ Connectivism. 3. Bridging the gap: Enhancing understanding of insurance contracts to minimize claims rejections.

An investigation to balance the sustainability of insurance companies and successful claims on insurance policies is important towards the economy, as well as for assisting the insured during financial difficulty when their items are damaged or lost. This paper examines some rejected shortterm insurances where a misunderstanding of the contract might have caused the insurer to lose out on the claim. Data were collected from cases of courts and insurers on rejected claims due to misunderstandings by the insured. The first text data set was a court case. The second was a graph on the root causes of claims rejections from the insurer. The third was a matrix data set presenting the languages of the insured. The insurers who had refused to pay insurer claims supplied the latter two. Despite the three contexts being widely different, their results show that rejections of claims by the insurers were due to the insured failing to understand the conditions of the contracts, and thus not being able to figure out what could have caused the rejection. Hence, the use of complicated and legal language in insurance contracts results in the insured not fully understanding the contract, which leads to claims being rejected. The paper recommends the use of simple language and pinpointing in layman's form, those aspects that could lead to rejections of claims. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Today, live classical concert attendance is low, a fact which threatens the careers of professional musicians. This paper examines recent statistics of classical concert attendance, theories as to why attendance rates are low, marketing methods for target audiences, and finally, recommendations to solve the dilemma of empty concert halls. To encourage concert attendance, classical music must be tastefully marketed to present-day audiences through the experience of technically excellent, musical, and interesting live performances. This work aims to highlight the (re) construction of the history of the 2nd Grade Teaching Center Professor Anísio Teixeira in Natal-RN (1974 to 1985). The investigation is based on the New History based on school culture and on the history of school institutions, making dialogues with documentary sources, such as: School PPP, Law No. 5.692/71, diplomas, minutes, clerks pedagogical letters from the voices of directors and teachers, composing the corpus of the research. It is concluded that Anísio Teixeira was a reference school in the capital, in professional technical education in administration and accounting, since most of the students who graduated there obtained placement in the trade. It was found that the locus of research institution was inaugurated to legitimize the law, technicality and the pragmatic/utilitarian curriculum.

Teaching in 4.0 era cannot be separated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT). There are many applications that can be used in learning and teaching process. ORAI application is chosen to be used as teaching tool in learning pronunciation. The main objective of this research is to discover the pro and cons from students as the main user in using ORAI application in learning pronunciation. This research implemented qualitative as research method and the participants of the research was 35 students of third semester of English students in IKIP Siliwangi. The data were collected by observation and interview. The result of the research showed that most of the participants agree that ORAI brings more benefits in learning pronunciation practice class. Their agreement can be classified into four categories: accessibility, comfortability, technicality, and integrated learning. The students were motivated and they could learn effectively. While, some of the students indicated that they did not want to use this application, they just delivered that this application has weaknesses in their process of practicing English pronunciation. Their cons on the use of ORAI are classified into two categories; topic difficulties and technicalities. Overall, the implementation of ORAI has positive effect for students in pronouncing correctly and they have good feedback to trigger them for practicing a lot. On the other hand, pronouncing English well will make a big contribution to their communication skills.

Videoconferencing (VC) applications (apps) have surged in popularity as an alternative to face-to-face communications especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although VC apps offer myriad benefits, it has caught much media attention owing to concerns of privacy infringements. This study examines the key determinants of working professional’s intentions to use VC apps in the backdrop of this conflicting duality. A conceptual research model is proposed that is based on theoretical foundations of privacy calculus and extended with conceptualizations of mobile users’ information privacy concerns (MUIPC), trust, technicality, ubiquity, as well as theoretical underpinnings of social presence theory. Structural equation modelling (SEM) is used to empirically test the model using data collected from 487 working professionals. For researchers, the study offers insights on the extent to which social richness and technological capabilities afforded by the virtual environment serve as predictors of the continuance intentions of using VC apps. Researchers may also find the model applicable to other studies of surveillance-based technologies. For practitioners, key recommendations pivotal to the design and development mobile video-conferencing apps are presented to ensure higher acceptance and continued usage of VC apps in professional settings. preprint authorsversion published

This article aims to analyze how Paulo Freire's liberating pedagogy can contribute to the construction of a proposal for the formation of the working class that strengthens its autonomy and liberation in the current situation in Brazil. This is bibliographic research, with a qualitative approach, carried out through a narrative literature review, whose data were analyzed and interpreted using the content analysis methodology. In order to reach the objective, it was reflected on the Professional Education offered to the Brazilian working class and on the principles and practices of Paulo Freire's pedagogy that can strengthen the training of workers for their empowerment in the world of work. With the theoretical contribution in the Freirean and Professional Education fields of study, it was possible to identify that at present Professional Education in Brazil is still linked to technicism, focusing only on training for the job market. Thus, it was concluded that Paulo Freire's liberating pedagogy, due to its dialogical and problematizing character, remains current because it promotes humanization and the awakening of the subject's critical consciousness, presenting itself as a counterpoint to Technical Professional and Technological Education. Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar cómo la pedagogía liberadora de Paulo Freire puede contribuir a la construcción de una propuesta de formación de la clase trabajadora que fortalezca su autonomía y liberación en la situación actual de Brasil. Se trata de una investigación bibliográfica, con enfoque cualitativo, realizada a través de una revisión narrativa de la literatura, cuyos datos fueron analizados e interpretados utilizando la metodología de análisis de contenido. Para alcanzar el objetivo, se reflexionó sobre la Educación Profesional ofrecida a la clase trabajadora brasileña y sobre los principios y prácticas de la pedagogía de Paulo Freire que pueden fortalecer la formación de los trabajadores para su empoderamiento en el mundo del trabajo. Con el aporte teórico en los campos de estudio freireano y de la Educación Profesional, fue posible identificar que en la actualidad la Educación Profesional en Brasil aún está ligada al tecnicismo, enfocándose sólo en la formación para el mercado de trabajo. Así, se concluyó que la pedagogía liberadora de Paulo Freire, por su carácter dialógico y problematizador, se mantiene vigente porque promueve la humanización y el despertar de la conciencia crítica del sujeto, presentándose como contrapunto a la Educación Técnica Profesional y Tecnológica. Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar de que forma a pedagogia libertadora de Paulo Freire poderá contribuir para a construção de uma proposta de formação da classe trabalhadora fortalecedora de sua autonomia e libertação na atual conjuntura do Brasil. Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, de abordagem qualitativa, realizada por meio de uma revisão narrativa de literatura, cujos dados foram analisados e interpretados empregando-se a metodologia da análise de conteúdo. Para alcance do objetivo, refletiu-se sobre a Educação Profissional ofertada à classe trabalhadora brasileira e sobre os princípios e práticas da pedagogia de Paulo Freire que podem fortalecer a formação do trabalhador para o seu empoderamento no mundo do trabalho. Com o aporte teórico nos campos de estudo Freireano e da Educação Profissional, foi possível identificar que na atualidade a Educação Profissional no Brasil ainda continua vinculada ao tecnicismo, tendo como foco apenas a formação para o mercado de trabalho. Destarte, concluiu-se que a pedagogia libertadora de Paulo Freire, por seu caráter dialógico e problematizador, continua atual por fomentar a humanização e o despertar da consciência crítica do sujeito, se apresentando como contraponto à Educação Profissional e Tecnológica Tecnicista.

Abstract Claims involving a mix of technical and non-technical features appear in patent applications across almost all technical fields nowadays, in particular in the context of computer-implemented inventions. This paper discusses how the European Patent Office (EPO) approaches the search of such mixed-type claims, taking into account both the legal framework of the search and the technical particularities of the inventions. This article intends to conduct a corpus-based study on the correlation between technicality and two typical ideational metaphors in English texts, i.e., nominalization which is typical experiential metaphor and verbalization which is typical logical metaphor. A general distribution pattern of the typical ideational metaphors within the contexts of genre and discipline was investigated in the BNC. Based on this general pattern, the use of typical ideational metaphors was investigated, both in the academic papers of natural sciences and social sciences written by Chinese users of English as a foreign language (EFL) and those by native English users. The first investigation based on the BNC shows that typical ideational metaphors are not only genre sensitive but also discipline sensitive, and the technicality of text is determined by the use of verbalizations rather than by that of nominalizations. The second investigation based on the research papers shows that native English users write more technical English than EFL Chinese users, and among the four groups of research papers, the EFL Chinese science papers are farther from the native English science papers than the EFL Chinese linguistic papers from the native English linguistic papers in technicality. 19. What is technicality? A Technicality Analysis Model for EAP vocabulary.

The identification of technical words for teaching discipline-specific EAP courses remains a problem for materials designers and teachers alike. This study proposes a method that identifies technicality and measures the degree of technicality of a word. The Technicality Analysis Model (TAM) suggests five levels of technicality: least technical , slightly technical , moderately technical , very technical and most technical . In identifying technicality we take four factors into account: 1) both general and specialised senses of a word; (2) the banding of a word in reference word lists; (3) the polysemy of a word; (4) the literal meaning of a word. The set of categorisation criteria is stringent in the sense that even least technical words may have specialised senses in a specific discipline but those senses may be almost the same as the general sense. All words in more technical categories have specialised senses. We trialled the TAM with 837 financial-sector-specific words generated from a 6.7-million-word corpus of financial texts. Results show that with the categorisation criteria in the technicality analysis, every financial-sector-specific word could be categorised into one of the technical word categories. Future research may use the TAM to develop a repertoire of discipline-specific vocabulary for EAP teaching and learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper revisits the register variable field in systemic functional linguistics (SFL), in relation to the concept of 'semantic density' in Legitimation Code Theory (LCT). Re-interpretations of the specialized meaning construing disciplinarity are proposed, from the perspective of the ideational, interpersonal and textual metafunctions--highlighting technicality, iconization and aggregation respectively. The term 'mass' is suggested as a cover term for these resources. The paper contributes to an ongoing dialogue between SFL and LCT in relation to research on secondary school history and biology discourse in Australian schools, an increasingly productive exercise in transdisciplinary research. The struggle over cure rate measures in nineteenth-century asylums provides an exemplary instance of how, when used for official assessments of institutions, these numbers become sites of contestation. The evasion of goals and corruption of measures tends to make these numbers “funny” in the sense of becoming dis-honest, while the mismatch between boring, technical appearances and cunning backstage manipulations supplies dark humor. The dangers are evident in recent efforts to decentralize the functions of governments and corporations using incen-tives based on quantified targets.

Yet little attention has been paid, to date, to the work of legislative drafters. This paper follows the ‘legal lives’ of qualifying periods on family-friendly employment rights. As examples of legal technicalities that work with time, qualifying periods form an important part of the regulatory structure that separates precarious workers from ‘regular’ employees in UK law. Drawing on documentary research and interviews with policy experts, union activists and legislative drafters, this paper focuses on the formal qualities of qualifying periods, arguing that these legal technicalities conjure time and legal form as inextricable. Whenever law becomes relevant to conversations about time and governance, we could usefully pay attention to the idiosyncrasies and controversies occupying legal form and legislative drafting. - Abstract
This study aims to understand the understanding and perception about what becomes the curriculum as an educational theme , by students of a private institution of higher education , specifically the pedagogy course , located in Belo Horizonte , Minas Gerais . The methodology used in this research was supported by the focus group technique , exploratory , holding in Gatti (2005 ) and Dias (2000 ) . A group discussion about the object of research generated on the following aspects: "How do you understand the curriculum? How important is the curriculum for teacher training ? What is the relationship of the curriculum to the practice in the classroom, with regard to the selection of knowledge/learning contents ? "We believe that the discussion on the curriculum have much to add in the formation of critical , dialogical and teachers committed to transformation order that is crucial , therefore, understand how the students of a course of Pedagogy absorb curriculum theory throughout their academic careers , helping to build their educational conceptions . The research was used primarily from the following references: Apple (1989), Giroux (1997), Freire (1992 , 2013), Silva (2009), Moreira (1997), Santos (2009). It was noticed that predominates in students in a technical bias curriculum theory, supposedly a neutral conception regarding the selection of school knowledge and a conceptual confusion between the field of Curriculum and Teaching . - Abstract
This assay analyses the process of capitalist determination producing high-value in the work of the health professional, in its constitutive articulation with the fetish of the technique. The present study demonstrated that the work of health professionals in capitalism is converted into a commodity, the purpose of which is to produce high-value from health services. It was realized that the process of production value on work in this field, conforms to the parameters to achieve the demands of capital reproduction and requires a fetishized centralism about the set of techniques that compose this sector. Thus, it is demonstrated with this study that the technicality of the health professional contributes to the exploration of relative high-value and ideological conformation aligned with the interests of the dominant class in the capital society., Resumo Este artigo analisa o processo de determinação capitalista de produção de mais valor no trabalho do profissional em saúde, em sua articulação constitutiva com o fetiche da técnica. O presente estudo demonstrou que o trabalho dos profissionais em saúde no capitalismo é convertido numa mercadoria, cuja finalidade é a geração de mais valor a partir dos serviços de saúde. Viu-se que o processo de geração de valor do trabalho nesse campo conforma-se aos parâmetros de atendimento das demandas de reprodução do capital e necessita de um centralismo fetichizado sobre o conjunto de técnicas que compõem tal setor. Demonstra-se, assim, com este estudo, que o tecnicismo, materializado no profissional em saúde, contribui com a exploração de mais-valia relativa e de conformação ideológica alinhada aos interesses da classe dominante na sociedade do capital.

This qualitative research explores 'full service': 3-level approaches to library services - Technicality, humanity and spirituality. The aim is make librarians aware of the necessity of and pathways to changes in library services. Three metaphors are used to illustrate the proposed changes of service mode - fishing over fish; people over things; and heart over head - in response to the 3-level services respectively. At technical level, service mode changes from reactive towards proactive, from transactional towards interactive, from verbally instructive towards tactile/kinaesthetic, and from information acquisition towards skill training. At humanistic level, changes swop from responsive towards facilitative, from cognitive towards affective, from informative towards transformative, from 'impartially' data-geared towards personalised client-centred, and from 'closure-oriented' towards 'step-stone-seeking'. At spiritual level, changes switch from one-off towards follow-up, from dismissive towards reflective, and from dutybound towards passion-driven. liquid metaphors, usually used to conceptualize core concepts in economics, tend to be realized linguistically to be chunks or multi-word expressions in form (such as cash flow) and to be more or less technical in meaning. Yet few studies have been conducted on how far liquid metaphorical chunks in business discourse, consisting of a word from the source domain liquid and a word in the target domain related to business , are technical and what their technicality is associated with. This study aims to explore the association between their technicality and frequency, collocational strength, concreteness asymmetry, and construction type, using corpus analysis, multinomial logistic regression and chi-square tests. Results show that their technicality is significantly correlated with their frequency, collocational strength, concreteness asymmetry, and construction type. liquid metaphorical chunks with low frequencies, low collocational scores and high concreteness asymmetry scores are likely to be more technical than those with high frequencies, high collocational scores and low concreteness asymmetry scores. Those in the constructions of N(Source)-N(Target) and A(Source)-NP(Target) are likely to be more technical than others. The struggle over cure rate measures in nineteenth-century asylums provides an exemplary instance of how, when used for official assessments of institutions, these numbers become sites of contestation. The evasion of goals and corruption of measures tends to make these numbers “funny” in the sense of becoming dishonest, while the mismatch between boring, technical appearances and cunning backstage manipulations supplies dark humor. The dangers are evident in recent efforts to decentralize the functions of governments and corporations using incen-tives based on quantified targets.

French suffixations in -age, -ion and -ment are considered roughly equivalent, yet some differences have been pointed out regarding the semantics of the resulting nominalizations. In this study, we confirm the existence of a semantic distinction between them on the basis of a large scale distributional analysis. We show that the distinction is partially determined by the degree of technicality of the denoted action: -age nominals tend to be more technical than -ion ones. We examine this hypothesis through the statistical modeling of technicality. To this end, we propose a linguistic definition of technicality, which we implement using empirical, quantitative criteria estimated in corpora and lexical resources. We show to what extent the differences with respect to these criteria adequately approximate technicality. Our study indicates that this definition of technicality, while amendable, provides new perspectives for the characterization of action nouns. RESUMO: A transformação da Didática vem sendo perseguida pela escola brasileira desde a Reforma de 1928 no Distrito Federal. Quase noventa anos depois de muitas outras tentativas de reforma, as autoridades políticas promoveram, no Brasil, um novo projeto de remodelação do ensino (Lei nº 13.415/2017). A reforma atual afeta a educação nacional em todos os níveis, e, embora muitos reconheçam que seu fundamento já esteja contido em determinações oficiais anteriores, seus defensores a divulgam como uma autêntica renovação. Este artigo pretende evidenciar que a atual reforma brasileira repete impasses de reformas passadas, todas ineficazes para alterar, de forma substancial, a natureza geral da Didática tradicionalmente admitida. Nessa interpretação histórica, especial enfoque será dado à relação entre a atual reforma e a reforma escolar da ditadura (Lei nº 5.692/1971). Aponta-se, finalmente, a persistência temporal de certa convivência nociva entre a pedagogia liberal e o tecnicismo pedagógico no Brasil. This study seeks to develop and empirically validate a new model of mobile technology adoption by incorporating theories of Value-based Adoption and Use-Diffusion. This study proposes a new conceptual framework that validates the relationships between three benefits (usefulness, enjoyment, and presence), two sacrifices (technicality and perceived cost), perceived value, and use-diffusion in regards to augmented reality-based mobile applications. The proposed predictive model embracing both benefit and sacrifice of adopting mobile technology offers more balanced perspective into the adoption process, which improves upon previous methods. The result suggests a new theoretical framework useful to predict consumers' adoption of new mobile technology. • The study adopts balanced (cost & benefit) approach to consumers' value system. • The enjoyment and presence positively influence perceived value of AR adoption. • Technicality positively influences, but perceived cost negatively influences AR adoption. • Perceived value significantly influences use variety and use rate. This article explores the meaning of the word 'technical' in the context of rules of evidence and related procedural rules. It concludes that the meaning of the term has been obscured by the tendency of advocates to use it as an umbrella term for a variety of complaints about the application of rules, and as a forensic device for avoiding specificity about those complaints. It concludes that a charge of technicality is generally attributable to the perception that a rule does not advance the merits of the case; or serves no useful purpose; and is in any case insufficiently flexible to be adapted satisfactorily to the needs of particular cases. Abstract: Teachers of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and academic language and learning advisors have long recognised the importance of developing students'' academic vocabulary for successful writing and learning at university. There is little, however, in the EAP literature on the place of teaching and learning discipline specific vocabulary, despite the growing attention paid to differences in disciplinary discourses in the EAP field. This paper aims to raise awareness of the role of the specialist language of academic disciplines in learning disciplinary knowledge. It identifies the nature of specialist language in a learner discourse of one academic discipline as well as examines how students incorporate this specialist language in their writing as their disciplinary knowledge increases. The data are drawn from a longitudinal study of undergraduate Education students'' writing. The students'' incorporation of specialist language in their writing is explored through the concepts of technicality and abstraction as they have been developed within systemic functional linguistics. The findings from this study show that learning specialist knowledge in pre-service teacher education involves adopting technical terms as well as coming to terms with the abstract dimension of the discourse. This paper also provides an analytical tool which can be adapted for examining the ways in which language represents experience in academic discourses. This analytical tool can assist academic language researchers and teachers to investigate variation in disciplinary discourses beyond the level of text organization and purpose so as to inform the teaching of specialist language. Abstract: This article explores how collocation relates to lexical technicality, and how the relationship can be exploited for teaching EAP to second-year engineering students. First, corpus data are presented to show that complex noun phrase formation is a ubiquitous feature of engineering text, and that these phrases (or collocations) are highly discipline-specific in a way that individual words are not. Next it is shown that these collocations as a class may be seen as a kind of threshold to specialised engineering discourse at the undergraduate level, and as such can be used as a basis for an EAP reading programme which is appropriate both in terms of difficulty and specialisation. Diante das caracter?sticas origin?rias desta modalidade educacional, a presente pesquisa coteja os conceitos provenientes das categorias temporais desenvolvidas por Koselleck (2006) ? campo de experi?ncia e horizonte de expectativa. A perspectiva de que cada uma das categorias temporais pode imaginariamente se alterar, contrair ou se expandir, o que ocorre em cada ?poca ou sociedade, modificando-se tamb?m a maneira como s?o pensadas e sentidas as rela??es entre elas, ? trazida para uma an?lise ocorrida dentro da Escola T?cnica Federal de Janu?ria, institui??o ?quinquagen?ria?, e nome conhecido na oferta de educa??o profissional na regi?o do M?dio S?o Francisco no norte de Minas Gerais. Dentro deste cen?rio, a presente pesquisa retoma a utiliza??o de uma perspectiva hist?rica no campo da educa??o para problematizar as poss?veis crises identit?rias deste locus de pesquisa, criadas durante as transforma??es, especialmente na muta??o entre Escola Agrot?cnica Federal de Janu?ria ao Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais campus Janu?ria. Iniciando-se, assim, no ano de 1993 ao ano de 2008. Em sua natureza qualitativa, a investiga??o desenvolveu o m?todo da utiliza??o da pesquisa bibliogr?fica, documental e oral objetivando analisar quais pol?ticas p?blicas foram importantes para que ocorressem as transforma??es das institui??es de ensino t?cnico-profissionalizantes nas d?cadas de 1990 e 2000. Estudar as concep??es pedag?gicas, enquanto parte da identidade da institui??o, e as influ?ncias destas nas pr?ticas do ensino da referida escola. Bem como, investigar as caracter?sticas identit?rias do locus pesquisado, explorando parte das mem?rias deste ap?s os anos de 1990. Diante disso, como principais resultados do processo de an?lise e interpreta??o dos dados, podemos inferir que o discurso tecnicista apresentado nas institui??es federais de educa??o profissional sempre foi claramente estimulado pelas concep??es que enxergavam nos estudantes uma potencial por??o de m?o de obra treinada para o mercado de trabalho, isso porque, esse tipo de institui??o atrav?s das for?as mercadol?gicas, assume um compromisso com o fator econ?mico e o fator empregabilidade. O ?pice do pensamento neoliberal nas institui??es federais de educa??o profissional ocorreu, sobretudo na configura??o CEFET, em decorr?ncia das mudan?as ocorridas no mundo do trabalho pela globaliza??o econ?mica que reestruturou os setores produtivos ajudando, assim, nas reformas pol?ticas educacionais da d?cada de 90. Desta forma fica claro que a Escola T?cnica Federal de Janu?ria perpetuou com sua cultura escolar tecnicista remodelada e resignificada e, est? sempre apta a se reinventar. The Professional Education of Technical Level in Brazil has provoked in the present, discussions on the direction of the dynamics imposed by the scientific-technological development in relation to the axis work and education. The history of this strategic educational modality has been recalled in order to reshape the plans for its future. At the heart of this 110-year history, it focuses on the great relevance of social inclusion to those outside the productive process and the social context. But this education also holds traces of a duality emphasized in the various evidences of contradictions between the general propaedeutic formation and the formation of crafts intended by the world of work. Facing the characteristics of this educational modality, the present research compares the concepts derived from the temporal categories developed by Koselleck (2006) - field of experience and horizon of expectation. The perspective that each of the temporal categories can be imagined to alter, contract, or expand, what takes place in each age or society, and also the way in which the relations between them are thought and felt, is brought to an analysis that has occurred within the Federal Technical School of Janu?ria, a "quinquagenarian" institution, and known name in the offer of professional education in the region of the Middle S?o Francisco in the north of Minas Gerais. Within this scenario, the present research resumes the use of a historical perspective in the field of education to problematize the possible identity crises of this locus of research, created during the transformations, especially in the mutation between Federal Agrot?cnica de Janu?ria School and the Federal Institute of North Minas Gerais campus Janu?ria. Thus beginning in the year 1993 to the year 2008. In this qualitative way, the study developed the method of using bibliographical, documentary and oral research in order to analyze which public policies were important for the transformation of educational institutions technical-vocational teachers in the 1990s and 2000s. To study the pedagogical conceptions, as part of the identity of the institution, and the influences of these in the teaching practices of this school. As well as, investigating the identity characteristics of the researched locus, exploring part of the memories of this one after the years of 1990. In view of that, as the main results of the process of data analysis and interpretation, we can infer that the technicist discourse presented in the federal institutions of professional education was always clearly stimulated by the conceptions that saw in the students a potential portion of trained labor force for the labor market. This is because this type of institution through market forces assumes a commitment to the economic factor and the employability factor. The apex of neoliberal thinking in federal vocational education institutions occurred, especially in the CEFET configuration, as a result of changes in the world of work due to economic globalization that restructured the productive sectors, thus helping the educational policy reforms of the 1990s. Thus it is clear that the Federal Technical School of Januaria has perpetuated with its remodeled and reframed technicist school culture and is always able to reinvent itself. La educaci?n vocacional a nivel t?cnico en Brasil ha provocado discusiones sobre la direcci?n de la din?mica impuesta por el desarrollo cient?fico-tecnol?gico en relaci?n con el eje de trabajo y educaci?n. La historia de esta modalidad educativa estrat?gica se ha recogido para remodelar los planes para su futuro. En el coraz?n de la mayor expresi?n de esta historia de 110 a?os est? la gran relevancia de la inclusi?n social de quienes est?n fuera del proceso productivo y del contexto social. Pero esta educaci?n tambi?n muestra rastros de una dualidad enfatizada en las diversas evidencias de contradicciones entre la formaci?n proped?utica general y la formaci?n de oficios destinados al mundo del trabajo. Birth has today been framed by a medical and institutionalized framework, where the epidural plays a major role in the awarness of care and the rationalization of the activity. We’re questionning ourselves from the midwives' point of view about this new care for parturients.Objective: Understand from a sociological point of view how midwives detect the method of epidural analgesia. It is about understanding how this tool changes their practices, their perception of their work and their professional identity.Methods : Material and methods: Non-interventional, descriptive, qualitative and multicentric study based on the analysis of direct semi-directive interviews.Results : Most of midwives have a positive image on epidural analgesia. They do not consider less to care of the parturients under epidural but offer a different care and manage to find a balance between technical competences and relational. The main obstacle to supporting women who do not wish to resort to this analgesic method is the lack of time of material and organizational resources. The model one woman/ one midwife is the ideal evoked by most of the midwives interviewed. They also demand more professional recognition and a revaluation of their skills among health professionals and the general population.; La naissance s'est aujourd'hui entourée d'un cadre médical et institutionnalisé, où l’analgésie péridurale joue un rôle majeur dans la prévention des soins et la rationalisation de l'activité. Nous nous sommes intéressés au point de vue des sages-femmes concernant ce nouveau mode de prise en charge des parturientes. Objectifs : Comprendre d'un point de vue sociologique comment les sages-femmes perçoivent le dispositif d'analgésie péridurale. Il s'agit de comprendre comment cet outil modifie leurs pratiques, la perception qu'elles ont de leur métier et leur identité professionnelle. Matériel et méthodes : Étude non interventionnelle, descriptive, qualitative et multicentrique basée sur l'analyse d'entretiens directs semi-directifs. Résultats : La majorité des sages-femmes ont un point de vue positif sur l'analgésie péridurale. Elles ne considèrent pas moins accompagner les parturientes sous péridurale mais proposent un accompagnement différent et réussissent à trouver un équilibre entre les compétences techniques et le relationnel. Le principal frein à l'accompagnement des femmes ne souhaitant pas recourir à cette méthode analgésique est le manque de moyens matériels et organisationnels. Le modèle une femme/ une sage femme est l'idéal évoqué par la plupart des sages-femmes interrogées. Elles réclament également plus de reconnaissance professionnelle et une revalorisation de leurs compétences auprès des professionnels de santé et de la population générale.

O texto discute o papel dos meios de comunicação no pensamento de Jesús Martín-Barbero. Defende-se que a noção de mediação não obscurece a agência cultural, social e política destes, nem desconsidera as implicações econômicas que regem e circunscrevem sua ação. Em sua trajetória teórica, ao refutar a ideia do midiacentrismo, o autor, ao mesmo tempo que expande, também equilibra o seu olhar sobre esta importante instância configuradora das sociedades contemporâneas. The text discusses the role of the media in Jesus Martín-Barbero’s thought. It is argued that the notion of mediation does not obscure its cultural, social l, and political agency, nor does it overlook the economic implications that govern and circumscribe its action. In his theoretical trajectory, in refuting the idea of mediacentrism, the author, while expanding, also balances his gaze on this important configurative instance of contemporary societies.

Periodization is the main mark of technicist pedagogy and the resurgence of this movement, more intensified in the liberal reforms of the 1990 s, objectified in neotechnicism, as a form of organization of the schools, by a State that seeks to maximize the results of the funds dedicated to education. The study sets forth a two-fold for a theoretical structure based on: (1) the technical reductionism in which teacher training goes from an academic dimension to an experimental/instrumental/pragmatic dimension and puts the emphasis on the competencies and abilities of teachers and students to achieve pre-set goals and results; (2) the technological sophistication the setting of the neotechnicism centered on ways of incorporating technology in education. I highlight some of the issues: taking into consideration the different conditions and historic contexts of Brazilian Education, which are the evidences of the current resurgence of technicist paradigm of the seventies in the discourse of Brazilian educational policies, or in other words, in different socioeconomic and politic periods? In which sense the constant defense of current Brazilian educational policies, with respect to the use of technology in Education, use the discourse of educational policies of the seventies and the recent guidelines of International Organizations? In which sense neotechnicism and technicism coincide and differentiate from each other? In the Brazilian context, which discourses may be used against resisting neotechnicist discourses? The study makes use of critical discourse analysis formulated by Norman Fairclough, analyzing the norms produced by the Brazilian Government and International Organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Educational reform program in Latin America (PREAL), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Bank Este estudo investiga as políticas educacionais no Brasil, implementadas na década de 1970 até 2015, analisando a inscrição das tecnologias na educação e focalizando os pressupostos e as implicações das formulações das políticas educacionais que as sustentam. A periodização assinala o predomínio da pedagogia tecnicista e a retomada deste movimento, de forma mais intensificada, nos anos reformistas neoliberais da década de 1990, objetivado no neotecnicismo, enquanto uma forma de organização das escolas, por parte de um Estado que busca maximizar os resultados dos recursos aplicados na educação. O estudo aponta para uma estruturação teórica em dois eixos centrais: (1) o reducionismo tecnicista em que a formação de professores parte da dimensão acadêmica para a dimensão experimental/instrumental/pragmática e coloca a ênfase nas competências e habilidades dos professores e alunos para atingirem as metas e os resultados pré-estabelecidos; (2) a sofisticação tecnológica a configuração do neotecnicismo centrado nos modos de incorporação educacional das TIC. Destaco algumas das questões problematizadoras: considerando as diferentes condições e contextos históricos da Educação Brasileira, quais as evidências da recorrente retomada do paradigma tecnicista dos anos setenta no discurso das políticas educacionais brasileiras, ou seja, em diferentes períodos socioeconômicos e políticos? Em que sentido a constante defesa nas políticas educacionais brasileiras atuais, quanto ao uso das tecnologias na Educação, retomam tanto discursos das políticas educacionais dos anos setenta quanto as orientações mais recentes dos Organismos Internacionais? Em que coincidem e em que se diferenciam o neotecnicismo e o tecnicismo? No contexto contemporâneo brasileiro, que discursos poderiam ser considerados contra hegemônicos de resistência ao neotecnicismo? 44. Revisiting field: specialized knowledge in secondary school science and humanities discourse
- Abstract
This paper revisits the register variable field in systemic functional linguistics (SFL), in relation to the concept of ‘semantic density’ in Legitimation Code Theory (LCT). Re-interpretations of the specialized meaning construing disciplinarity are proposed, from the perspective of the ideational, interpersonal and textual metafunctions—highlighting technicality, iconization and aggregation respectively. The term ‘mass’ is suggested as a cover term for these resources. The paper contributes to an ongoing dialogue between SFL and LCT in relation to research on secondary school history and biology discourse in Australian schools, an increasingly productive exercise in transdisciplinary research.

Para a construção dessa dissertação utilizou-se como metodologia a pesquisa qualitativa de natureza histórica, realizando inicialmente um levantamento bibliográfico e documental nos arquivos da escola lócus de pesquisa com destaque para Lei Nº 5.692/71. Evidencia-se também nessa dissertação, como instrumento de pesquisa de dados, a construção de cartas pessoais construídas com focada na re(construir) das representações sobre as práticas pedagógicas do ensino em destaque, centrado no perfil dos alunos, currículo, conteúdos, metodologia, avaliação, festas e eventos. Essa escrituração permitiu concluir que o ensino técnico profissionalizante de 2º grau, realizado pela escola em destaque tratava-se de uma formação eminentemente técnica, focada no filho da classe trabalhadora, na qual os professores materializavam os princípios pedagógicos do tecnicismo alicerçados no Brasil nos anos de 1971 a 1985. This dissertation deals with a historical analysis of the pedagogical practices of the Secondary Education Center Professor Anísio Teixeira, with a temporal cut in the years 1974-1985. Its specific objectives are to reflect on Human Capital Theory, Technical and pedagogical practices in the context of the Brazilian military civilian dictatorship; To investigate the technicism in Brazil, observing the repercussion of Law Nº 5.692 of August 11, 1971, within the scenario of pedagogical practices of the Secondary Education Center Professor Anísio Teixeira; Re (construct) the history of Vocational Technical Education based on the pedagogical practices experienced during the years 1974 to 1985, in this school institution. This work is based on theoretical references of the history of institutions, school culture, professional education and the science of education, based on the studies of Magalhães (1996); Faria Filho (2001); Nosella; Buffa (2010); Julia (2001); Le Goff (1996); Chartier (1988); Saviani (2013); Schultz (1973); Frigotto (1999); Germano (2001); Marx (1868); Antunes (2009); Cunha (2005); Skinner (1972), Libran (1994); Luckesi (1995), Hoffman (2016, 1993); And Bobbitt (2004), among others. For the construction of this dissertation was used as methodology the qualitative research of historical nature, initially performing a bibliographical and documentary survey in the archives of the research school, highlighting Law No. 5.692 / 71. It is also evidenced in this dissertation, as a data research tool, the construction of personal letters constructed with focus on the re (construct) of the representations about the teaching practices of the highlighted teaching, centered on the profile of the students, curriculum, contents, methodology, Evaluation, parties and events. This bookkeeping allowed us to conclude that the vocational technical education of the second grade, carried out by the school in question, consisted of an eminently technical education focused on the son of the working class, in which the teachers materialized the pedagogical principles of technicalism based in Brazil in the years of 1971 to 1985.

La globalización económica que nos tiene atrapados/as en sus redes y la educación que se imparte en nuestras escuelas van de la mano, y el sistema educativo cuyo objetivo es mantener la organización económica vigente, no toma en consideración la diversidad del alumnado. En este trabajo, se proponen dos iniciativas asequibles para el/la educador/a mientras la realidad siga siendo la analizada, considerando que ayudarían a disminuir el fracaso escolar: la educación emocional y la colaboración de toda la comunidad. [EN] Generally, the responsibility of the dropout is attributed to the student. This work shows a wider view about this phenomenon, considering the student a victim of a discriminatory education system. The Economic Globalization that traps us and the education in our schools go together and the education system whose objective is to maintain the current economical organization, does not take into account the student diversity. This work purposes two different achievable initiatives for the educator, adapted to this reality and considering that they would help to decrease the school failure: the emotional education and the collaboration of the whole community.

Teaching in 4.0 era cannot be separated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT). There are many applications that can be used in learning and teaching process. ORAI application is chosen to be used as teaching tool in learning pronunciation. The main objective of this research is to discover the pro and cons from students as the main user in using ORAI application in learning pronunciation. This research implemented qualitative as research method and the participants of the research was 35 students of third semester of English students in IKIP Siliwangi. The data were collected by observation and interview. The result of the research showed that most of the participants agree that ORAI brings more benefits in learning pronunciation practice class. Their agreement can be classified into four categories: accessibility, comfortability, technicality, and integrated learning. The students were motivated and they could learn effectively. While, some of the students indicated that they did not want to use this application, they just delivered that this application has weaknesses in their process of practicing English pronunciation. Their cons on the use of ORAI are classified into two categories; topic difficulties and technicalities. Overall, the implementation of ORAI has positive effect for students in pronouncing correctly and they have good feedback to trigger them for practicing a lot. On the other hand, pronouncing English well will make a big contribution to their communication skills.��
