Experimental studies devoted to the study of the mechanisms of the pathogenesis of acute peritonitis and the development of new methods of medical and surgical treatment are becoming increasingly relevant. Today, experimental medicine knows many different ways to modeling septic peritonitis and eliminate it, but the role of the local immune system is underestimated, whereas it takes a direct part in inflammation. The objective of our work to study morphological features of results of experimental modeling of septic peritonitis in white rats. The study included 15 sexually mature white male rats weighing 276.75±6.56 grams. A simulation of septic peritonitis was performed by perforating the upper part of the cecum with four punctures with a G16 injection needle. As a result of the experiment, after examination of the peritoneal cavity, all 15 animals were diagnosed with omentum tamponade of perforated damage to the caecum. In 11 cases, the perforated wall of the caecum was covered by the greater omentum (73.34 %), and in the other 4 animals, tamponade was performed by one of the epididymal omentum (26.66 %). The initial stage of tamponade with the greater or epididymal omentums of a perforated caecum begins on the first day of the experiment and consists of tight interstitial consolidation between them, as well as in the invasion of blood vessels from the omentum side to the focus of infection, which ensure the delivery of the appropriate immunocompetent cells. As a result of this process, intensive lymphoid infiltrates are formed in this area, as well as the growth of adipose tissue, which isolates the inflammatory focus from the peritoneal cavity with a thick layer. OXIDATIVE stress , *TEA , *INFLIXIMAB , *APOPTOSIS , *CISPLATIN , *SPERM count - Abstract
Cisplatin (Cis) is an important chemotherapeutic agent used in cancer treatment. Males exposed to Cis were reported to exhibit testicular toxicity. Cis-induced testicular toxicity is mediated by oxidative stress, inflammation, testosterone inhibition and apoptosis. Accordingly, this study was conducted to evaluate the potential protective roles of infliximab (IFX), which is an anti-TNF-α agent, and of white tea (Camellia sinensis), which is known to possess antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory effects, against Cis-induced testicular toxicity in rats. Rats were randomly assigned into five groups as follows: control group, Cisplatin (7 mg/kg) treatment group, Cisplatin (7 mg/kg) + infliximab (7 mg/kg) treatment group, cisplatin + white tea (WT) treatment group, and Cisplatin+ WT+IFX combined treatment group. In the present study, Cis exposure reduced the sperm count. It also increased testicular oxidative stress as well as the levels of inflammatory and apoptotic markers. Histopathological assays supported the biochemical findings. Treatment with IFX and/or WT restored testicular histology, preserved spermatogenesis, suppressed oxidative stress and apoptosis, and significantly ameliorated Cis-induced damage. It was concluded that white tea and infliximab could potentially serve as therapeutic options for the protection of testicular tissue against the harmful effects of Cis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MALE reproductive organs , *GENITALIA , *ENDOCRINE disruptors , *SOIL pollution , *PHYTOESTROGENS - Abstract
Oral exposure to synthetic and natural endocrine disruptors (ED) at different stages of life is related to alterations in the reproductive system. Ruminants represent a model for studying the effects of ED in humans due to some similarities in their development. Ruminants are considered of great importance due to continuous exposure to pasture and contaminated soils and human consumption of their meat. The present review aims to describe ED effects in ruminants’ reproduction, when they are consumed in the perinatal, postnatal-pre-adulthood, and adult stages. Feeding with phytoestrogens (PE) rich forage has no nocive consequences on the male reproductive system at any stages of life; in females, they produce more significant harmful effects when administered in adulthood. In the perinatal and postnatal-pre-adulthood stages, negative effects of synthetic ED were found in both males and females. This review presents study opportunities for further research related to oral exposure to ED. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EPIDIDYMIS , *SPERMATOZOA , *PHYTOESTROGENS , *RABIES , *TESTIS , *ESTRADIOL , *ESTROGEN - Abstract
The concern of canine overpopulation is related to zoonoses such as rabies, which is responsible for 99% of human rabies cases, causing the death of approximately 59,000 people per year. Surgical sterilization is an effective, costly and invasive control method with limited impact. The effects of phytoestrogens on reproductive activity have been commonly studied in females and a limited number in males. Therefore, the objective of this study was to know the effect of subcutaneous administration of coumestrol on the gonadal activity of adult dogs as an alternative for their reproductive control. Basic seminal evaluation parameters, epididymal structure by ultrasonography, histological characteristics, as well as the presence of coumestrol by fluorescence and serum levels of testosterone and estrogens were determined. The administration of coumestrol for five weeks reduced sperm production, and evidenced changes in the echodensity and cellularity of the epididymis, associated with serum concentrations of estradiol and testosterone. Therefore, it is concluded that coumestrol administered subcutaneously has an estrogenic effect that can be used as a non-invasive method to help control fertility in adult dogs.

- Abstract
Among testicular traumas, blunt testicular trauma represents the majority of cases and usually affects men between 15 and 40 years of age. We present a finding of classic seminoma after an incidental trauma with subsequent surgical exploration and radical orchiectomy of the left testicle. The difficulty of research tools such as testicular ultrasound for physician support is highlighted. Seminomas are usually homogeneously hypoechoic masses. Magnetic resonance imaging can help confirm that a mass is intratesticular and provide data for local staging. Computed tomography provides valuable information for staging, including the presence and size of retroperitoneal lymph nodes. Management is limited. However, testicular seminoma is treated with radical inguinal orchiectomy and is highly curable even in advanced stages of the disease. Most physicians choose orchiectomy followed by surveillance for patients with stage I seminomatous disease and chemotherapy or radiation, followed by surgery for management of residual masses, for patients with stage II and higher disease. We stress the importance of clinical suspicion in these types of young patients and having an active search for these trivial traumas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Currently, the sclerosing-type Sertoli cell tumor is classified as a variant of the NOS Sertoli cell tumors (without other specification), because it has been shown that both tumors present mutation in the CTNNB1 gene, which encodes the b-catenin (19), the relevance of its identification lies in the fact that this variant is correlated, although in a low percentage, with metastatic potential. A 56-year-old male, with a 7-year evolution, characterized by presenting left testicular pain with a slight increase in consistency in the lower pole of the left testicle, a testicular ultrasound was performed, which revealed a heterogeneous lesion of 2 cm in diameter maximum, dependent on the lower pole of the left testis; Left radical orchiectomy was performed, with histopathological report: testicular sertoli cell tumor. Later, with satisfactory evolution, with complete wound healing, and currently under surveillance, without the need for adjuvant treatment. Knowing their relative rarity and the few reported cases, testicular Sertoli cell tumors remain a relative mystery and today, they continue to be a challenge for diagnosis. With this case, we intend to support the knowledge and promote additional research on these tumors, with the aim of optimizing the diagnosis and providing adequate treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels and it causes complications in many systems, including the reproductive system. As a result of diabetic conditions, one of the mechanisms that can cause repression of reproductive activity is testicular oxidant stress. The identification of diabetes on the cell signaling molecules axis is still under discussion. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Transforming Growth Factor (TGFb), Nuclear Factor kappa B (NF-kB), Heat-schock 90b (HSP90b) signal pathways and E-cadherin cell adhesion molecule on infertility in diabetic rat testicular tissue. In our study, includes histological, molecular and biochemical analysis of testicular tissue removed at the end of the 2 weeks experiment period. A total of 14 adult male rats were divided as control and diabetes. No intervention was given to 7 male rats in the control group. For the diabetic group, 7 male rats were injected by intraperitoneal with a single dose of 55 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ). TGFb, NF-kB, HSP90b and E-cadherin proteins were immunohistochemically studied to investigate possible tissue damage, inflammatory process, cell stabilization and integrity due to diabetes. In order to determine oxidant stress, lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) analyzes were performed. Fibrosis, inflammatory changes and loss of spermatogenetic series are prominent findings in the diabetic group. On analysis of all the samples with immunostaining, in the diabetic group, TGFb and NF-kB immunoexpression significantly increased, while Hsp90b and E-cadherin immunoexpression significantly decreased compared with control groups. Experimental diabetes was found to cause fibrosis, inflammation, disrupting cell adhesion and stabilization in testicular tissue. These results suggest that cellular therapy studies are needed for possible damage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial chemical widely used to make polycarbonate plastics for packaging and epoxy resins. This study sought to examine how selenium (Se) affects BPA toxicity in terms of albino rats’ histological structure, antioxidant enzymes and reproductive organs (seminiferous tubules). Twenty-four adult male rats were divided into four experimental groups: Group 1: Control; Group 2: Orally administered BPA; Group 3: Orally administered sodium selenite; Group 4: Treated daily with BPA followed by selenium (Se). All experiment done for 4 weeks. BPA exposure caused changes in the testicular histological structure, which consists apoptosis, and led to changes in several biochemical markers: Malondialdehyde, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase. However, these BPA side effects may be ameliorated in rats treated with BPA-plus-Se. These protective effects of Se may attributable to its ability to remove potentially damaging oxidizing agents in living organisms. The results may confirm that Se countered the oxidant effects and increased the BPA-induced stress response in rats. So, Se promotes the healthy growth and development of mammals by protecting them from oxidative stress. As human are greatly exposed to BPA and it can accumulate in tissues, there is concern about human reproductive functions particularly for occupational workers exposed usually to greater levels of BPA. Thus, the use of BPA in multiple industries must be restricted and the inaccurate usage of plastic containers should be avoided to decrease the health hazards. Administration of Se may protect against the adverse effects of BPA on reproductive functions and structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of Protocatechuic acid and Corchorus olitorius on streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rat testis tissue. Randomly selected Wistar Albino rats were divided into five groups as; Diabetes Mellitus, Diabetes Mellitus treated with Corchorus Olitorus (STZ+CO), Diabetes Mellitus treated with Protacatechuic acid (STZ+PCA), Corchorus olitorius (CO), Protocatechuic acid (PCA) and Control. Diabetic model was generated by intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg Streptozotosin. After 48 hours of the STZ injection, blood samples were collected from tail vein in order to measure blood glycose levels. Over 250 mg/dL accepted as diabetic subjets and fed with 250 mg/kg Corchorus olitorius or 20 mg/kg PCA by oral gavage for three weeks. At the end of the experiment, right testes were removed and fixed in 10 % neutral formaldehyde for paraffine embedding. Sections were stained by HE, Masson trichrome, PAS and TUNEL for microscopic evaluation. Control, PCA-only and Corchorus olitorius-only treated group testes tissues showed a normal tissue organization, when degeneration in seminiferous tubules, the vacuolization, seperations in spermatogenic cell series, outpouring of cell groups in the lumen, vesicular body formation, liquid accumulation in the interstitial region and edema were observed in STZ induced diabetic models and untreated groups. Besides, higher amount of TUNEL (+) stained cells were determined in STZ group. On the other hand, blood glucose level and number of TUNEL (+) stained cells were decreased as a result of PCA and Corchorus olitorius treatment. Because of the reduction of blood glucose level and apoptotic cell numbers, PCA and Corchorus olitorius decreace the complications of diabetes mellitus induced rat testis [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The tumor of the Sertoli cells is a common neoplasm in non-neutered male dogs of advanced age, generally showing benign behavior. The testicular growth the first signal for suspects of the affection and ultrasound can be used to locate and characterize it. However, histopathological analysis is necessary for the definitive diagnosis and orchiectomy is the most indicated treatment. This work aims to report a case of sertolioma in a 13-year-old domestic Shetland Shepherd dog treated at Hospital Veterinário Sylvio Barbosa Cardoso of the State University of Ceará in September 12th of 2019 with right testicular enlargement. A testicular clinical and ultrasound evaluation was performed, where an echogenic image of heterogeneous echotexture was seen in the right testicular parenchyma with evident internal vascularity After the performance of hematological and cardiac exams, the animal was forwarded to bilateral orchiectomy. The histopathological report concluded the presence of a neoplasm that reproduces Sertoli cells of the intratubular type. The animal received recommendations to be under observation, and to perform periodic exams mainly in association with its advanced age. The sertolioma presents a low metastatic potential, not being necessary the association with other treatments, nonetheless, requiring caution and attention of the veterinarian, once the confirmation of the cure is made necessary for the realization of periodic exams with the veterinarian monitoring. - Abstract
Cryptorchidism is described as the most recurrent malformation of the genitourinary tract in boys, which is defined as the lack or inadequate descent of the testicle into the scrotum, which occurs due to a problem in one of the stages of testicular descent. Two types of cryptorchidism have been detected, congenital and acquired, where in the last one recently mentioned the testicles seem to be in the scrotal sac during lactation, however during school age they ascend until they come out of the scrotal sac. Generally, this disease does not provide clinical manifestations, so diagnosing it early, early and adequate management will depend on how the test is predicted, the probability of cancer in the testicle and that it becomes malignant in adulthood. Orchidopexy occurs when the testis is fixed to the scrotal bag, and it will be the treatment of choice for cases of the testis that have not descended, since fixing the testis to the bag guarantees that it will not ascend again., La criptorquidia es descrita como la malformación más recurrente de las vías genitourinarias en los niños, la cual está definida como la falta o el descenso inadecuado del testículo hacia el escroto, el cual ocurre dado un problema en una de las etapas del descenso del testículo.

- Abstract
A male neonate born at gestational age of 40 weeks was found to have an enlarged and darkened right hemiscrotum after birth. Left testicle was descended and normal. No clinical signs of distress were evident. A color Doppler ultrasound showed an absence of testicular blood flow, consistent with perinatal testicular torsion. The patient underwent a bilateral scrotal exploration through an inguinal incision and a necrotic right testicle was found. A right orchiectomy and left orchiopexy were performed. Perinatal testicular torsion is a rare but severe condition. A high clinical suspicion is required since most of perinatal testicular torsion are intrauterine and can often be asymptomatic, only with localized findings of the affected testis. The management of perinatal testicular torsion is still controversial; however, the most consensual approach is a prompt testicle exploration with orchiectomy of the necrotic testicle and contralateral orchiopexy., Recém-nascido do sexo masculino com idade gestacional de 40 semanas, com edema e escurecimento cutâneo do hemiescroto direito constatados após o nascimento.

- Abstract
Objective: To determine whether delay in medical care causes a greater number of orchiectomies in patients with testicular torsion. Method: Bibliographic review, we proceeded to review scientific articles on the impact of delay in medical care in the surgical treatment of testicular torsion in databases such as WEB OF SCIENCE, PUBMED, SCOPUS and SPRINGER. Conclusion: The prognosis of testicular torsion is time-dependent; an early approach results in fewer orchiectomies and higher rates of testicular viability. The pandemic delayed medical care but there are no conclusive results that it has increased the number of orchiectomies, what is clear is that delay is associated with worse outcomes. The population should be educated that acute scrotal pain should be treated immediately by a physician, which will improve the long-term prognosis., Objetivo: Determinar si el retraso en la atención médica ocasiona un mayor número de orquiectomías en pacientes con torsión testicular.

Thai Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC. var pruriens (T-MP) seed containing levodopa (L-DOPA) and antioxidant capacity has been shown to improve sexual behavior and male reproductive parameters in rats treated with ethanol (Eth). However, its protective effect on testicular apoptotic germ cells has never been reported. This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of T-MP seed extract on expressions of caspase, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) proteins in Eth rats. Thirty-six male Wistar rats were divided into four groups (9 animals/group), including control, Eth, T-MP150+Eth, and T-MP300+Eth, respectively. Control rats received distilled water, and Eth rats received Eth (3g/kg BW; 40%v/v). The T-MP groups were treated with T-MP seed extract at a dose of 150 or 300 mg/kg before Eth administration for 56 consecutive days. The results showed that the seminiferous tubule diameter and epithelial height were significantly increased in both T-MP treated groups compared to the Eth group. Additionally, the caspase-9 and -3, and PCNA expressions were decreased, but D2R expression was markedly increased in T-MP groups. It was concluded that T-MP seed extract could protect testicular apoptosis induced by Eth via changes in caspase, PCNA, and D2R protein expressions.

The present work aimed to report a case of a Sertoli cell tumor associated with cryptorchidism in a Poodle dog of eight years old, that presented a mass in the inguinal region eight months ago. The previous history and evolution time were compatible with testicular feminization syndrome. It was observed a considerable increase in volume of the affected testis (left). The animal was submitted to an orchiectomy of the cryptorchidic testis and presented a good recovery. The histopathological examination revealed a diffuse sertolioma, and possibly the systemic manifestation of non-pruriginous bilateral symmetric alopecia was related to the presence of the tumor. Abstract With the objective to assess the effect of scrotal bipartition on spermatogenesis in sheep, the testes were used from 12 crossbred rams of sheep farms in the municipality of Patos, Paraíba, Brazil, distributed into two groups: GI with six rams with scrotal bipartition, and GII with six rams without scrotal bipartition. The testicular biometry was measured and the testes were collected, fixed in Bouin and fragments were processed to obtain histological slides. The spermatogenesis yield and the Sertoli cell efficiency was estimated by counting the cells of the spermatogenetic line at stage one of the seminiferous epithelium cycle and the Sertoli cells. The results were submitted to analysis of variance with the ASSISTAT v.7.6 program and the mean values were compared by the Student-Newman-Keuls test (SNK) at 5% significance. The testicular biometric parameters did not show statistical difference (p>0.05) between the groups. The meiotic, spermatogenetic and Sertoli cell efficiency were higher in bipartitioned rams (p0.05) between GI and GII. The results indicated that there is superiority in the spermatogenetic parameters of bi-partitioned rams, suggesting that these sheep present, as reported in goats, indication of better reproductive indices.
