The new ligand N-methyl-N-((((4-nitrophenyl)diazenyl)thio) carbonothioyl) aniline (LS2) was prepared by the reaction of 4-nitrobenzenediazonium salts with a (sodium N-methyl- N-phenyldithiocarbamate), a new ligand containing azosulphur linkage. A series of metal ions Sn(II), Sn(IV), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) were used to prepare metal complexes through reaction of two moles of LS2 ligand with one mole of appropriate metal chloride. The prepared compounds were characterized by CHNS elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ¹H NMR-spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, UVvisible spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, and conductivity measurements. Stoichiometry was determined using analytical and spectroscopic information and it was found to be 1:2 (metal to a ligand) for all complexes. The spectral data confirm the coordination of the LS2 ligand with all metal ions through sulfur atoms of dithiocarbamate moiety. Molar conductivity of complexes was measured using DMF as a solvent and it was indicated that all prepared complexes were ionic. According to the results obtained from the elemental analysis and spectral measurements were complexes of Sn(II), Sn(IV) and Co(II) tetrahedral geometry, while the complexes with Ni(II) and Cu(II) had a square planar geometry. From solutions of prehnitene and the ternary halides (SnCl)[MCl4] (M = Al, Ga) in chlorobenzene, the new cationic SnII–π-arene complexes catena-poly[[chloridoaluminate(III)]-tri-μ-chlorido-4′:1κ2Cl,1:2κ4Cl-[(η6-1,2,3,4-tetramethylbenzene)tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-2:3κ4Cl-[(η6-1,2,3,4-tetramethylbenzene)tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-3:4κ4Cl-[chloridoaluminate(III)]-μ-chlorido-4:1′κ2Cl], [Al2Sn2Cl10(C10H14)2]n, (1) and catena-poly[[chloridogallate(III)]-tri-μ-chlorido-4′:1κ2Cl,1:2κ4Cl-[(η6-1,2,3,4-tetramethylbenzene)tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-2:3κ4Cl-[(η6-1,2,3,4-tetramethylbenzene)tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-3:4κ4Cl-[chloridogallate(III)]-μ-chlorido-4:1′κ2Cl], [Ga2Sn2Cl10(C10H14)2]n, (2), were isolated. In these first main-group metal–prehnitene complexes, the distorted η6 arene π-bonding to the tin atoms of the Sn2Cl22+ moieties in the centre of [{1,2,3,4-(CH3)4C6H2}2Sn2Cl2][MCl4]2 repeating units (site symmetry \overline{1}) is characterized by: (i) a significant ring slippage of ca 0.4 Å indicated by the dispersion of Sn—C distances [1: 2.881 (2)–3.216 (2) Å; 2: 2.891 (3)–3.214 (3) Å]; (ii) the non-methyl-substituted arene C atoms positioned closest to the SnII central atom; (iii) a pronounced tilt of the plane of the arene ligand against the plane of the central (Sn2Cl2)2+ four-membered ring species [1: 15.59 (11)°, 2: 15.69 (9)°]; (iv) metal–arene bonding of medium strength as illustrated by application of the bond-valence method in an indirect manner, defining the π-arene bonding interaction of the SnII central atoms as s(SnII—arene) = 2 − Σs(SnII—Cl), that gives s(SnII—arene) = 0.37 and 0.38 valence units for the aluminate and the gallate, respectively, indicating that comparatively strong main-group metal–arene bonding is present and in line with the expectation that [AlCl4]− is the slightly weaker coordinating anion as compared to [GaCl4]−.

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction structures of organotin compounds bearing hemicarbonate and carbonate ligands were recently reviewed by us—“CO2 Derivatives of Molecular Tin Compounds. Part 1: Hemicarbonato and Carbonato Complexes”, Inorganics 2020, 8, 31—based on crystallographic data available from the Cambridge Structural Database. Interestingly, this first collection revealed that most of the compounds listed were isolated in the context of studies devoted to the reactivity of tin precursors towards carbon dioxide, at atmospheric pressure or under pressure, thus highlighting the suitable disposition of Sn to fix CO2. In the frame of a second part, the present review carries on to explore CO2 derivatives of molecular tin compounds by describing successively the complexes with carbamato, formato, and phosphinoformato ligands, and obtained from insertion reactions of carbon dioxide into Sn–X bonds (X = N, H, P, respectively). The last chapter is devoted to X-ray structures of transition metal/tin CO2 complexes exhibiting metallocarboxylato ligands. As in Part 1, for each tin compound reported and when described in the original study, the structural descriptions are supplemented by synthetic conditions and spectroscopic data.

This review focuses on organotin compounds bearing hemicarbonate and carbonate ligands, and whose molecular structures have been previously resolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Most of them were isolated within the framework of studies devoted to the reactivity of tin precursors with carbon dioxide at atmospheric or elevated pressure. Alternatively, and essentially for the preparation of some carbonato derivatives, inorganic carbonate salts such as K2CO3, Cs2CO3, Na2CO3 and NaHCO3 were also used as coreagents. In terms of the number of X-ray structures, carbonate compounds are the most widely represented (to date, there are 23 depositions in the Cambridge Structural Database), while hemicarbonate derivatives are rarer; only three have so far been characterized in the solid-state, and exclusively for diorganotin complexes. For each compound, the synthesis conditions are first specified. Structural aspects involving, in particular, the modes of coordination of the hemicarbonato and carbonato moieties and the coordination geometry around tin are then described and illustrated (for most cases) by showing molecular representations. Moreover, when they were available in the original reports, some characteristic spectroscopic data are also given for comparison (in table form). Carbonato complexes are arbitrarily listed according to their decreasing number of hydrocarbon substituents linked to tin atoms, namely tri-, di-, and mono-organotins. Four additional examples, involving three CO2 derivatives of C,N-chelated stannoxanes and one of a trinuclear nickel cluster Sn-capped, are also included in the last part of the chapter.

The second-generation xanthate ligand 4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 Na, consisting of a backbone functionalized O -alkyldithiocarbonate donor set, has been prepared. The reaction of this ligand with either Ph 3 SnCl or (Ph 3 P) 2 CuNO 3 yields the neutral monometallic complexes [4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 SnPh 3 ] and [4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 Cu(PPh 3 ) 2 ], respectively. These compounds were characterized by 1 H NMR and UV–Vis spectroscopies, and in solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of [4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 SnPh 3 ] consists of a mono-dimensional coordination polymer, formed by the monodentate coordination of the O CS 2 − group to the Sn(IV) center, in combination with the coordination of the pyridine group to an adjacent tin atom. In the case of [4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 Cu(PPh 3 ) 2 ], the xanthate ligand coordinates to the Cu(I) center in an isobidentate fashion, leaving the pyridine moiety free. These monometallic complexes act as metalloligands toward the [Rh 2 (OAc) 4 ] dimer, producing the tetrametallic derivatives [Rh 2 (OAc) 4 ]·2[4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 SnPh 3 ] and [Rh 2 (OAc) 4 ]·2[4-PyCH 2 OCS 2 Cu(PPh 3 ) 2 ], respectively. These compounds were investigated in solution phase using 1 H NMR and UV–Vis techniques, and it is proposed that the formation of the first compound proceeds via a two-step process, while the formation of the latter is a one-step process. A theoretical study of semi-empirical calculation of PM3 level was used to characterize three Tin complexes (R2SnL2) [where (R): (Phenyl), (butyl) and (methyl) and L: (N-tolyl -mmethoxybenzo hydroxamic acid) ]. The comparison of the three complexes that have different (R) had been done on the basis of calculated energies and physical properties of the molecular model systems, such as heat of formation, HOMO-LUMO gap, binding energy, dipole moment, surface area. For a series of five model complexes composed of a singlet SnX2 molecule (X = H, F, Cl, Br, I) and a benzene molecule, the first-principles calculations of their energetics and the analysis of their electron density topology have been performed. The CCSD(T)/CBS interaction energy between SnX2 and C6H6 fall into the range between −10.0 and −11.2 kcal/mol, which indicates that the complexes are rather weakly bound. The relevant role of electrostatic and dispersion contributions to the interaction energy between SnX2 and C6H6 is highlighted in the results obtained from the symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT). The electron density topological analysis has been carried out using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and the noncovalent interactions (NCI) visualization index. Both QTAIM and NCI prove the closed-shell, noncovalent and attractive character of the interaction. A very small charge transfer from C6H6 to SnX2 has been detected. The formation of the five complexes is accompanied by the electron density deformations that are spatially restricted mostly to the region around the Sn atom and its adjacent C atom. The results presented in this work shed some light on the nature of the interactions associated with crystalline structural motifs involving low-valent tin complexed with neutral aryl rings. New 1,9-diacyl-5-(phenothiazinyl)dipyrromethane (aphdpm) obtained by diacylation of 5-phenothiazinyl-dipyrromethane were subjected to complexation reactions with dimethyl- and di-n-butyltin(IV) dichloride which afforded complexes of the type [Me2Sn(aphdpm)] and [(n-Bu)2Sn(aphdpm)] respectively [where aphdpm: 1,9-diformyl-5-(phenothiazinyl)dipyrromethane and 1,9-dibenzoyl-5-(phenothiazinyl) dipyrromethane]. Novel tin complexes were synthesized for use as fluorescent materials in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The structures of these complexes were characterized by ultraviolet-visible, Fourier-transform infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy methods and elemental analyses. The energy levels of the tin complexes were determined using cyclic voltammetry measurements. Devices were fabricated with an indium tin oxide (ITO)/PEDOT:PSS (90 nm)/PVK:PBD:tin complexes (75 nm)/Al (180 nm) structure; the resultant devices had peak emissions ranging from 537 nm to 580 nm. The tin complexes accounted for 8 wt.% of the blend in the PVK:PBD (100:40), which was used as a host. The electroluminescent spectra of the tin complexes were red-shifted as compared with the PVK:PBD blend. We believe that the electroluminescence performance of OLED devices based on tin complexes relies on overlaps between the absorption of the tin compounds and the emission of PVK:PBD. Organotin complexes 1- 6 of the general formula [SnR2L] and [(SnR3)2L] (L=phenanthrenequinone dioximato - a bidentate ligand, R=Me, Bu, and Ph) were synthesized by the reaction of the sodium salt of the ligand H2L (prepared in situ with MeONa) and SnR2Cl2/SnR3Cl in 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 molar ratios. New stable divalent heterocyclic species [SnL1; 1, SnL2; 2] using ONNO and SNNS tetradentate Schiff bases;N,N′-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-bis(o-aminophenoxy)ethane (H2L1) andN,N′-bis(2-aminothiophenol)-1,4-bis(2-carboxaldehydephenoxy)butane (H2L2) were obtained in good yields by alcolysis of the M-N bonds of the divalent precursor Sn[N(SiMe3)2]2by diols. They have been isolated as solids at ambient temperature and are monomeric. FT-IR,1H and119Sn-NMR spectra are suggestive of N … M intramolecular coordination. Then the synthesis and characterization of the new stable mono andcis-disubstituted Sn(II) chromium and tungsten carbonyl complexes [L1Sn]M(CO)5(M= Cr, 3; W, 4); [L2Sn]M(CO)5(M= Cr, 5; W, 6); cis-[L1Sn]2M(CO)4(M= Cr, 7; W, 8) and cis-[L2Sn]2M(CO)4(M= Cr, 9; W, 10) are described. Pentacarbonyl complexes (3–6) were obtained in high yields by treatment of the M(CO)5THF (M= Cr, W) intermediates with the divalent species [SnL1; 1, SnL2; 2] and tetracarbonyl complexes (7–10) were synthesized by the photochemical reactions of [LnSn]M(CO)5with [LnSn] (n = 1, 2). Each of the new carbonyl complexes has been characterized by IR,1H,13C,119Sn-NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Thirteen new stannacyclododecane dithiocarbamate complexes have been prepared by reacting 12-chloro-12-n-butyl-1,11-dioxa-4,8-dithia-12-stannacyclododecane (1) and 12-chloro-12-n-butyl-1,4,8,11-tetrathia-12-stannacyclododecane (2) with pyrrolidine-, morpholine-, thiomorpholine-, piperidine-, piperazinebis-, and 3-pyrroline-carbodithioates, respectively, as well as with diethyl-dithiocarbamate. All complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, EI-MS, and NMR (1H, 13C, and 119Sn) studies. The spectroscopic data suggest the replacement of the chlorides by the corresponding dithiocarbamates with monodentate coordination, leading to six-coordinate tin atoms in all the cases. Photolysis of 2-(trimethylstannyloxy)-3,6-di-tert-butyl-benzquinone-1,4 (I), 2-(triphenylstannyloxy)-3,6-di-tert-butyl-benzquinone-1,4 (II), and 2-(tribenzylstannyloxy)-3,6-di-tert-butyl-benzquinone-1,4 (III) by light with the wavelength 436 nm leads to the evolution of carbon mono- and dioxide and the formation of hydrocarbon radicals with their consequent recombination. Abstract: Nowadays, investigation for possible therapeutic applications of various metal-based drugs attracts the scientific interest worldwide. The triorganotin compound bis[triphenyltin(IV)](3-carboxy-pyridine-2-thionato) (SnMNA), was tested for its anti-proliferative and antitumor activities. Cytotoxic activity was assessed by Trypan blue and 3-(4.5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2.5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay (MTT). SnMNA exhibited potent cytotoxic effects against leiomyosarcoma cells (LMS) and human breast adenocarcinoma cells (MCF-7), which is 200 times stronger than that of cisplatin. Moreover, SnMNA induced significant apoptosis in LMS and MCF-7 cells characterized by flow cytometry analysis and DNA fragmentation. Acute and chronic toxicity studies on Wistar rats caused kidney and lung toxicity at a single dose of 80mg/kgBody Weight (BW) or four repeated doses of 8mg/kgBW once per week. Furthermore, antitumor activity studies on sarcoma bearing Wistar rats revealed that SnMNA complex at four repeated doses of 5.4mg/kgBW every three days prolonged mean survival time of the animal at 200% and decreased mean tumor growth rate (MTGR) compared to the control group (p <0.05). A series of organosilicon(IV) and organotin(IV) complexes having the formulae R2MCl(L1), R2MCl(L2), R2MCl(L3), R2MCl(L4), R2M(L1)2, R2 M(L2)2, R2 M(L3)2, and R2 M(L4)2 , where M = Si and Sn, and R = CH3 , were synthesized with Schiff bases 5-mercapto-4-(pyridine-2-carboxalideneamino)-s-triazole (HL1) , 4-(furfuralideneamino)-5mercapto-s-triazole (HL2) , 4-(2-chlorobenzylideneamino)-5-mercapto-s-triazole (HL3) , and 4-(4-flourobenzylideneamino)-5-mercapto-s-triazole (HL4) . These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, and spectroscopic studies, including UV, IR, 1 H, 13 C, 29 Si, and 119 Sn NMR spectroscopy. Abstract: Heavy group 13 and 14 analogs of the poly(pyrazolyl)borates are the subject of this review. Within these, the most extensive research has been performed on the study of polypyrazolylgallates Me2Ga(R2pz)2]− (R=H or Me) and [MeGa(pz)3]−, and their complexes with transition metals. In this review, the common features shared with the boron analogs are presented and contrasted. Other recently reported series of group 13 analogs are the alkali polypyrazolylaluminates Na[(R2pz)3 ] with R=Me, t Bu; R′=M. The complexes with one or two pyrazolyl ligands on aluminum display anagostic Al–CH3⋯Na interactions, these interactions are persistent even if complexes were obtained from solutions with THF that normally coordinate alkali ions. The polypyrazolylsilane ligands Me2Si(R2pz)2 and MeSi(R2pz)3 with R=H, Me are remarkably easy to obtain and isolate, in contrast is the fact that the carbon analogs are much harder to obtain and isolate in reasonable yields. Therefore it is surprising that the chemistry of the former ligands is not as developed as could be anticipated. Nevertheless there are examples of the use of these silanes as ligands with the following transition metals: Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn, Sc and Zr. The heavier group 14 analogs with Ge and Sn display coordination patterns with alkali and alkaline ions that resemble those observed with the borates and aluminates. The formation of cationic bimetallic cages of the type [E2(R2pz)3]+ and neutral complexes [E2(R2pz)4] has also been observed that can be consider formal isomers of the alkenes. Abstract: The organometallic tin(IV) complexes [SnPh2(SRF)2] SRF = −SC6F4-4-H (1), −SC6F5 (2), were synthesized and their reactivity with [MCl2(PPh3)2] M=Ni, Pd and Pt explored. Thus, transmetallation products were obtained affording polymeric [Ni(SRF)(μ-SRF)] n , monomeric cis-[Pt(PPh3)2(SC6F4-4-H)2] (3) and cis-[Pt(PPh3)2(SC6F5)2] (4) and dimeric species [Pd(PPh3)(SC6F4-4-H)(μ-SC6F4-4-H)]2 (5) and [Pd(PPh3)(SC6F5)(μ-SC6F5)]2 (6) for Ni, Pt and Pd, respectively. Abstract: Treatment of dibenzyltin dichloride with 1 equiv. of 2-amino-1-cyclopentene-1-carbodithioic acid (ACDA) gave Bz2SnCl(ACDA) (1) that contains five coordinate tin. Reaction of 2 equiv. of ammonium 2-amino-1-cyclopentene-1-carbodithioic acid (AACD) with Bz2SnCl2 and then recrystallization from THF produced Bz2Sn(ACDA)2 ·THF 2 in which the coordination geometry around the Sn is highly distorted from octahedral. Bz3Sn(ACDA) (3) was obtained from reaction of Bz3SnCl with 1 equiv. of AACD. The crystal structure of 3 indicates a Sn–S′ interaction [3.0823(5)Å] that distorts the tin coordination geometry from that of an ideal tetrahedron. In 1–3 the tin atom is also coordinated to one carbon atom of each benzyl group. The products were characterized by IR and NMR (1H, 13C, 119Sn) spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The reaction of bis(anilino)phosphine oxide (C6H5NH)2P(O)H, 1 with Bu2nSnCl2 in the presence of an excess of triethylamine (TEA) in dry tetrahydrofurane (THF) yields the novel N,O-bonded tin complex Bu2nSn[NPh(O)P(H)NPh(HNEt3)]2, 2. TEA is used as a base to deprotonate the phosphazane ligand and is separated as Et3NH+Cl-, whereas HTEA+ exists in the final product 2 and act as a charge balancing and H-bond structure--directing agent. A facile synthesis and studies on the stereochemistry and biochemical aspects of some organosilicon(IV), organotin(IV), and manganese(II) complexes derived from imine having N∪N∪O donor system is reported. The imine was prepared by the condensation of salicylanilide with sulphathiazole. This imine reacts with organosilicon(IV)chloride, organotin(IV)chloride, and hydrated manganese(II) chloride to yield compounds having M─O and M←N bonds. The structures of the compounds have been elucidated by physicochemical and spectral (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 29Si NMR, 119Sn NMR, and ESR) studies, which clearly point to a trigonal bipyramidal geometry around silicon(IV) and tin(IV), and tetrahedral geometry around manganese(II), as the active lone pair of the nitrogen is also included in the coordination sphere. In the search for better fungicides and bactericides, studies were conducted to assess the growth-inhibiting potential of the synthesized complexes against various pathogenic fungal and bacterial strains. These complexes are highly active against nematode (Meloidogyneincognita) and insect (Trogodermagranarium). The activity will be increased with increasing concentration. These studies demonstrate that the concentrations reached levels that are sufficient to inhibit and kill the pathogens. The electronic structure of newly synthesized tin anticancer complexes coordinating one, two and four tin atoms has been studied both at semiempirical level and by using ab initio methods at the correlation level. The most probable structures of the systems under consideration have been determined being in a good agreement with the relevant experimental results. The compounds show very effective antitumor cytotoxic activity against A549 and HSMC cells. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The dithiocarboxylato complexes of tin, Bz2SnCl(EtACDA) (1a) Bz=benzyl, Bz2Sn(EtACDA)2 (1b), and Bz3Sn(EtACDA) (1c) have been synthesized by the reaction of Bz2SnCl2 or Bz3SnCl with 2-N-ethylamino-1-cyclopentene-1-carbodithioic acid (HEtACDA). The reaction of 2-amino-1-cyclopente-1-carbodithioic acid (H2ACDA) with benzylamine, gave 2-N-benzylamino-1-cyclopente-1-carbodithioic acid (HBzACDA) (2), which reacts with Bz2SnCl2 or Bz3SnCl to give Bz2SnCl(BzACDA) (3a), Bz2Sn(BzACDA)2 (3b) and Bz3Sn(BzACDA) (3c). The products were characterized by IR and NMR (1H, 13C and 119Sn) spectroscopies and elemental analysis. The crystal structures of 1c, 2 and 3b have also been determined. In all the complexes Sn is bound asymmetrically to the dithiocarboxylato ligand through two sulfur atoms. The orientation of the ligands is determined by NH⋯S hydrogen bonds. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction structures of organotin compounds bearing hemicarbonate and carbonate ligands were recently reviewed by us—"CO2 Derivatives of Molecular Tin Compounds. Part 1: Hemicarbonato and Carbonato Complexes", Inorganics2020, 8, 31—based on crystallographic data available from the Cambridge Structural Database. Interestingly, this first collection revealed that most of the compounds listed were isolated in the context of studies devoted to the reactivity of tin precursors towards carbon dioxide, at atmospheric pressure or under pressure, thus highlighting the suitable disposition of Sn to fix CO2. In the frame of a second part, the present review carries on to explore CO2 derivatives of molecular tin compounds by describing successively the complexes with carbamato, formato, and phosphinoformato ligands, and obtained from insertion reactions of carbon dioxide into Sn–X bonds (X = N, H, P, respectively). The last chapter is devoted to X-ray structures of transition metal/tin CO2 complexes exhibiting metallocarboxylato ligands. As in Part 1, for each tin compound reported and when described in the original study, the structural descriptions are supplemented by synthetic conditions and spectroscopic data. This review focuses on organotin compounds bearing hemicarbonate and carbonate ligands, and whose molecular structures have been previously resolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Most of them were isolated within the framework of studies devoted to the reactivity of tin precursors with carbon dioxide at atmospheric or elevated pressure. Alternatively, and essentially for the preparation of some carbonato derivatives, inorganic carbonate salts such as K2CO3, Cs2CO3, Na2CO3 and NaHCO3 were also used as coreagents. In terms of the number of X-ray structures, carbonate compounds are the most widely represented (to date, there are 23 depositions in the Cambridge Structural Database), while hemicarbonate derivatives are rarer; only three have so far been characterized in the solid-state, and exclusively for diorganotin complexes. For each compound, the synthesis conditions are first specified. Structural aspects involving, in particular, the modes of coordination of the hemicarbonato and carbonato moieties and the coordination geometry around tin are then described and illustrated (for most cases) by showing molecular representations. Moreover, when they were available in the original reports, some characteristic spectroscopic data are also given for comparison (in table form). Carbonato complexes are arbitrarily listed according to their decreasing number of hydrocarbon substituents linked to tin atoms, namely tri-, di-, and mono-organotins. Four additional examples, involving three CO2 derivatives of C,N-chelated stannoxanes and one of a trinuclear nickel cluster Sn-capped, are also included in the last part of the chapter. From solutions of prehnitene and the ternary halides (SnCl)[ M Cl 4 ] ( M = Al, Ga) in chloro-benzene, the new cationic Sn II -π-arene complexes catena -poly[[chlorido-aluminate(III)]-tri-μ-chlorido-4':1κ 2 Cl ,1:2κ 4 Cl -[(η 6 -1,2,3,4-tetra-meth-yl-benzene)-tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-2:3κ 4 Cl -[(η 6 -1,2,3,4-tetra-methyl-benzene)-tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-3:4κ 4 Cl -[chlorido-aluminate(III)]-μ-chlorido-4:1'κ 2 Cl ], [Al 2 Sn 2 Cl 10 (C 10 H 14 ) 2 ] n , ( 1 ) and catena -poly[[chlorido-gallate(III)]-tri-μ-chlor-ido-4':1κ 2 Cl ,1:2κ 4 Cl -[(η 6 -1,2,3,4-tetra-methyl-benzene)-tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-2:3κ 4 Cl -[(η 6 -1,2,3,4-tetra-methyl-benzene)-tin(II)]-di-μ-chlorido-3:4κ 4 Cl -[chlor-ido-gallate(III)]-μ-chlorido-4:1'κ 2 Cl ], [Ga 2 Sn 2 Cl 10 (C 10 H 14 ) 2 ] n , ( 2 ), were isolated. In these first main-group metal-prehnitene complexes, the distorted η 6 arene π-bonding to the tin atoms of the Sn 2 Cl 2 2+ moieties in the centre of [{1,2,3,4-(CH 3 ) 4 C 6 H 2 } 2 Sn 2 Cl 2 ][ M Cl 4 ] 2 repeating units (site symmetry ) is characterized by: (i) a significant ring slippage of ca 0.4 Å indicated by the dispersion of Sn-C distances [ 1 : 2.881 (2)-3.216 (2) Å; 2 : 2.891 (3)-3.214 (3) Å]; (ii) the non-methyl-substituted arene C atoms positioned closest to the Sn II central atom; (iii) a pronounced tilt of the plane of the arene ligand against the plane of the central (Sn 2 Cl 2 ) 2+ four-membered ring species [ 1 : 15.59 (11)°, 2 : 15.69 (9)°]; (iv) metal-arene bonding of medium strength as illustrated by application of the bond-valence method in an indirect manner, defining the π-arene bonding inter-action of the Sn II central atoms as s (Sn II -arene) = 2 - Σ s (Sn II -Cl), that gives s (Sn II -arene) = 0.37 and 0.38 valence units for the aluminate and the gallate, respectively, indicating that comparatively strong main-group metal-arene bonding is present and in line with the expectation that [AlCl 4 ] - is the slightly weaker coordinating anion as compared to [GaCl 4 ] - .
