Study Design. Observational study. Objective. To evaluate the publication rate of podium presentations from the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS) annual meeting and to evaluate the publication rate of award-winning papers from the CSRS annual meeting. Summary of Background Data. Although various publication rates from Orthopaedic meetings have been reported, the publication rates from the CSRS annual meetings are not known. Methods. Paper presentations and award-winning papers from the 2007 to 2011 annual CSRS meeting were identified. Using PubMed, we searched for publications with a title of the paper presentations or containing the same authors. The publication rate of the awardwinning papers was evaluated in the same manner. We collected the title of the journals the papers were published in and identified the most common journals. Results. Of the 321 podium presentations, 211 were published (65.7%). The publication rate was highest for 2007 abstracts (77.8%), followed by 2008 and 2011 (68.5%) and lowest for 2009 (58.5%). Of the 45 award-winning papers, 35 were published (77.8%), which was significantly different compared with the non-award-winning papers (63.8%, P = 0.046). Spine, The Spine Journal, and Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine were the most common publication journals for the papers. Conclusion. In one of the first studies evaluating the publication rate of podium presentation from the CSRS annual meetings, we found an overall publication rate of 65.8% and 77.8% for awardwinning papers. A call for proposals for papers, training sessions, and coordinated sessions for the 2012 Annual Meeting of the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), with the theme "Supporting Student Success in a Global Economy: Methods, Practices, and Policies for Assessment and Learning," is presented.

Objectives: This study sought to ascertain the publication rate of abstracts presented at the annual meetings of the Medical Library Association (MLA) for the years of 2002 and 2003. The secondary objectives were to examine possible reasons for non-publication and factors influencing publication. Methods: A total of 442 abstracts from both meeting years, consisting of presented papers and posters, were examined. The 2 methods used to obtain a publication rate were literature searches and an online questionnaire sent to first authors. The questionnaire also asked abstract authors about reasons for non-publication and other factors that might have influenced their decisions about whether or not to submit the project for publication. Results: The overall publication rate from the survey was 26.5%, and the publication rate found via literature searching was 27.6%. The most common reason given for non-publication was time restrictions. Also notable was the large proportion of abstracts written by librarians working at universities and those having 25 or more years in the library profession. Discussion: Publication rates for abstracts presented at the Medical Library Association meetings for the years studied rank at the low end in comparison with other medical professional associations. This article presents information on the research papers to be presented at the "22nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Psychophysiological Research" to be held at the Sheraton-Ritz Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from October 21 to October 24, 1982. In the paper "On the Construction of Stochastic Working Life Tables," by Haskel Benishay, stochastic working life tables are constructed and evaluated. The essence of the construction of stochastic rather than the traditionally deterministic working life tables is in the utilization of the realistic assumptions that the number of births, the number of entries into the labor force, the duration of life, and the duration of working life, are random variables. The end result is a working life table with a double entry in each cell rather than the single traditional one. The implications of this approach for the evaluation of fluctuations in various subcomponents of the labor force are evaluated. Another paper "Measuring Elasticities of Air Travel," by Samuel L. Brown, summarizes research on the response of demand for air travel to differences of fares, incomes, and elapsed travel time. There are three kinds of studies. Multiple regression studies of time series of air traffic, fares and income in the national domestic market yield short-period fare elasticities and income-elasticities. A quarterly first-difference model stands well the usual statistical tests.

Background: Speaking invitations are used by faculty promotion committees as evidence of external recognition. However, women are underrepresented as speakers at specialty society conferences despite the rise in women physicians. The purpose of this study was to estimate to what extent the gender of session conveners is associated with the gender distribution of invited speakers at SAGES meetings.Methods: A retrospective audit of annual SAGES meeting programs during 2009-2018 was performed. All invited panel speakers, defined as faculty delivering a prepared oral presentation in a session under the organization of one or more chairs, were identified. The gender of speakers and chairs/co-chairs was determined. Hands-on courses, paper sessions, military symposia, mock trials, and jeopardy sessions were excluded. We compared the proportion of all-male panels in sessions with all-male conveners versus sessions with at least one woman convener. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square and t tests.Results: There were 3405 speakers and 459 panels identified. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 2836 invited speakers on 402 panels were analyzed. Women represented 15% of all speakers, increasing from 9 to 19% (2009 to 2018). This reflects the rise in the proportion of women overall members (11% in 2010 to 19% in 2018). The proportion of panels with at least one woman convener increased from 12 to 58%. All-male panels represented 40% of all panels (n = 163) and their proportion significantly decreased over time from 50 to 31% (p trend < 0.000). Sessions with all-male conveners had 52% all-male panels, while sessions with at least one woman convener had 19% all-male panels (p < 0.001).Conclusion: The proportion of women invited speakers at the annual SAGES meeting has significantly increased over time. All-male convener sessions were more likely to convene all-male speaker panels. Including a woman chair/co-chair increased the number of women speakers and is a successful strategy to achieve gender balance in conference planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Study Design: Systematic review.Objective: We systematically reviewed the level of clinical evidence presented at Cervical Spine Research Society annual meetings from 2008 through 2017.Summary Of Background Data: The Cervical Spine Research Society is dedicated to advancing knowledge of the cervical spine to promote evidence-based care. Research presented at these meetings impacts clinical practice.Methods: A total of 774 paper abstracts presented at Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS) annual meetings were independently assessed by two reviewers. Reviewers designated a clinical level of evidence (LOE) to each included abstract from level I to level IV based on criteria set forth by the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine. Reviewer agreement was assessed using Cohens Kappa coefficient (k) and disagreements were discussed until a consensus was reached. Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to assess for differences in LOE grades. Chi-squared testing was used to assess nonrandom changes in level of evidence and in excluded studies.Results: A total of 583 abstracts were included. Over the last 10 CSRS meetings, 5.15% of presentations were level I, 27.8% level II, 27.4% level III, and 39.6% level IV. The average LOE from 2008 to 2017 was 3.02 (median = 3). Additionally, 49.7% were therapeutic studies, 37.6% prognostic studies, and 12.7% diagnostic studies. When comparing the first 5 years (2008-2012) to the last 5 years (2013-2017), we observed a significant increase in Level II (P = 0.007) evidence and a corresponding decrease in level IV evidence (P < 0.001). The average LOE improved from 3.14 (2008-2012) to 2.91 (2013-2017); there was a significant improvement in LOE between the two periods (P = 0.001).Conclusion: Emphasis on evidence-based medicine within cervical spine research has positively influenced the clinical level of evidence disseminated at CSRS annual meetings between 2008 and 2017. Abstract: Objectives: This paper communicates the major new findings on renal cell cancer (RCC) that were presented at the 2006 annual meetings of the European Association of Urology (EAU), American Urological Association (AUA), and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and discussed during a closed meeting in September 2006. Methods: The most relevant new findings were selected by urologic experts in the field of RCC. Results: One basic research study suggested that there might be pathways other than the von Hippel-Lindau/hypoxia-inducible factor-α pathway involved in RCC tumour angiogenesis. Partial nephrectomy is still relatively uncommon compared with radical nephrectomy, even in small tumours. Overall and cancer-specific 5-yr survival for laparascopic cryoablation was high, suggesting that it might be suitable for small renal masses. Radiofrequency ablation appears feasible and safe in healthy American Society of Anesthesiologists I and II patients. There were major contributions on angiogenesis inhibitors for metastatic RCC. Sorafenib significantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) compared with placebo in patients who failed prior systemic therapy. Sunitinib significantly prolonged PFS compared with interferon (IFN)-α as first-line treatment of low- and intermediate-risk patients. Temsirolimus significantly increased overall survival compared with IFN-α as first-line treatment in poor-risk patients. Conclusions: Relevant new data on partial nephrectomy, cryoablation, and radiofrequency ablation are discussed in this paper. New standards are emerging for the treatment of metastatic RCC, which is now based on antiangiogenic drugs. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

NAASR faces an existential dilemma. It is currently caught between the desire for greater num-bers and panels that take place at the Annual Meeting of the AAR on the one hand, and the idea of a more exclusive group that focuses solely on historical and scientific analysis on the other. This paper argues that the future of NAASR resides in the latter option as opposed to the former. It even goes a step further and argues that NAASR should--intellectually, if not logistically--split from the AAR because as things currently stand the AAR defines the parameters of the conversa-tion: NAASR, by default, becomes that which the AAR is not. However, in so doing, NAASR still defines itself using the discourses and categories of the AAR.
