In this introduction to the Special Section 'Laboratory Times', the editors argue that a focused body of scholarship at the intersection of time and the laboratory has yet to materialize. To contextualize the papers that comprise the Special Section, we survey the role of the lab within time studies, as well as the place of temporality within Science and Technology Studies (STS). We show how time is made to structure and shape scientific practice and how scientists work with and create time to suit the frames and needs of experimentation. While one might expect to find as many forms of scientific time as there are branches of science, the specific temporalities of bench science have been largely overlooked by scholars. We introduce the arguments of the papers in this Special Section - observing their shared interest in the ways that time is materialized, negotiated and produced in laboratory settings. We conclude by imagining a future in which a research trajectory focused on 'Laboratory TImes' brings scholars in time studies and STS further into conversation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Science Museum Group Journal's Issue 21 Editorial discusses a special collection of articles that explore the scientific acquisitions of Professor Stephen Hawking's office at the Science Museum Group and his papers at the University of Cambridge. These acquisitions provide insights into the practices of theoretical physics, academic collaboration, and the realities of living with a degenerative disease while being a celebrity. The annual Editorial of Phytocoenologia 2018 reflects on the topical coverage of the journal in the years 2015-2017. All continents except Antarctica were present, but contributions from Europe and Asia dominated, South America and Africa were moderately represented and North America and Australia underrepresented. In terms of vegetation types temperate grasslands and forests were the most frequent study subjects, while aquatic and weed communities were hardly addressed at all. We highlight the classification of the petrifying springs in Ireland (Lyons & Kelly 2017, Phytocoenologia 47: 13-32) as a prototypic study we would like to be published in the journal and thus acknowledge the authors with the Editors' Award 2017. Also the two permanent sections, Ecoinformatics (with Long and Short Database Reports) as well as Phytosociological Nomenclature (with nomenclatural proposals and nomenclatural revisions) are important and much used parts of Phytocoenologia. AIMS Allergy & Immunology is an international Open Access journal that focuses on publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed papers in the field of immunology and allergy. In 2023, the journal received 26 manuscripts and published 20 papers, including review articles, research articles, mini reviews, letters, case reports, commentaries, and editorials. The authors of these papers came from over 10 countries, indicating an increase in international collaborations. The journal also received its first impact factor of 0.7 in 2023. The editorial board currently consists of 71 members from 19 countries, and efforts will be made to renew the board in 2024. An editorial is presented which discusses the collaborative writing with multiple authors which has additional challenges including varied levels of engagement of coauthors, provision of fair credit through authorship or acknowledgements and acceptance of diversity of work styles. Also discussed are the 10 simple rules for collaboratively writing a multi-authored paper which include to build a writing team wisely; to create a data management plan and to jointly decide on authorship guidelines.

The mission of AGU's Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems (JAMES) is to publish original research papers that advance the science underlying Earth system models and emerging from their use. In this editorial, we tell the story of how the Special Issue on Critical Perspectives in Work and Organizational Psychology (CWOP) came about, how it fits within the broader agenda of building a critical community within Work and Organizational Psychology, and how future research and thought may be inspired by the collection of critical papers related to work and organizational psychology. We introduce the term "criticalizing" as a key concept in how the Special Issue was developed by the editorial team and the authors. Criticalizing moves beyond fixed static notions of "critical" scholarship toward a process of engaging in more fluid, expansive, and creative perspectives on the scholarship within work and organizational psychology. We illustrate how the set of papers within the Special Issue engages in such criticalizing of the field and offer new ways of thinking about and researching relevant topics in work and organizational psychology. The 2022 edition of NL4AI was co-located with the 21st International Conference of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA 2022) and took place on November 30th in Udine, Italy. The call for papers attracted 17 submissions by 52 different authors from Italy (44), the UK (2), Algeria (4), and Germany (2). After the review process, 13 of 17 papers were accepted for publication (acceptance rate 76.47%). In terms of topics, the contributions to the workshop span from pure NLP works to broader proposals bridging NLP with other AI applications. Among the accepted articles, we selected two that we considered the most relevant and inspiring for the Italian Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence communities. The aim of this paper is to analyze metaphors about the social outbreak in editorials, from Diario El Sur and Diario Concepción, two of Concepción's local newspapers. The corpus was composed of 23 editorials from these newspapers. Metaphor identification was done through Discourse Dynamics Approach to Metaphor. A total of 653 metaphors was found, which was then grouped, resulting in a total sum of 268 metaphors for the analysis. In this research, the editorial perspective about the social outbreak of two local newspapers was studied through metaphor. In both media outlets, similar metaphor vehicles were used. While Diario El Sur prioritizes the need for normalization, Diario Concepción legitimates the demonstrations as an expression of social discontent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mental illnesses and substance use disorders are prevalent worldwide and considered among the most stigmatizing of all health conditions. Stigma continues to create major barriers to treatment, recovery, quality of life, and social and economic injustice. The literature on mental illness and substance use stigmatization is becoming increasingly robust, reinforcing several important priorities for stigma reduction—such as stigma-informed education, meaningful involvement of people with lived experience of a mental illness or substance use disorder, recovery-oriented care, addressing barriers to access within our systems of care, and addressing stigma at the level of structures, laws, and policies. The 16 papers in this Special Issue build out this existing knowledge by highlighting a broad range of issues, perspectives, theoretical contributions, and stigma reduction approaches across different countries and contexts, and through various lenses. We have been particularly interested in selecting manuscripts that enhance our understanding of how stigma toward mental illness and substance use manifests itself and the factors involved in stigmatization processes. This knowledge can guide priorities and direction that can be used as a basis for designing and implementing strategies for change, and have the potential to lead to lasting and meaningful improvements for people with lived experience of mental illness or substance use disorder. Migration industry has recently emerged as a lens through which to theorise the intertwinement of non-state actors who aim to provide diverse migration-pertaining services. However, while much of their work is done in and through cities, consequently (re)forming variegated urban landscapes, scholarly literature has thus far neglected the nexus between cities and the migration industry. In this special issue, we begin filling this gap by exploring the significance of migration industries - as a resurgent concept and an area of research from migration studies 一 for undec standing the urban. We start by reviewing the urbanisation of migration studies, highlighting its key limits. We then move on to introduce the migration industries debate, pointing out its existing implicit urban dimensions. We proceed by elaborating our main argument about why and how migration industries provide an especially productive lens for urbanists to consider. Specifically, we stress the three key analytical vantage points that the attention to migration industries enables us to see as central to contemporary city-making. These are its political-economic embeddedness, the urban-constitutive nature of trans-local connectivities, and how business-driven citymaking dovetails with more serendipitous, bottom-up shaping of the arrival city. Each of these points also describes how individual papers speak to them. This study examined how selected Nigerian newspaper editorials covered the commemoration of its 60th independence anniversary. Frame theory provided the theoretical lens with which to make sense of the data. Drawing from van Dijk's (1992) model of editorial analysis, which focuses on Definition, Evaluation and Recommendation, this research investigated how Nigeria's journey as an independent nation in the last 60 years was framed in the editorials. The study found that there were divergent views as to whether there was a reason to celebrate or not. Defective structure, insecurity and poor leadership emerged as major problems to Nigeria's development. Consequently, these editorials framed restructuring, provision of security and rejigging of the recruitment process for political officeholders as solutions to the identified problems. The study indicated that these papers glossed over Nigerian Civil War experience, thus denying the younger generation the lessons of this important historical event. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The first paper was vital in describing the mechanism by which trans-membrane ion gradients are maintained via energy-dependent movements of ions against concentration gradients, where Na SP + sp leaves and K SP + sp enters the axon (Hodgkin & Keynes, [21]). The second paper described inhibiting the active movement of ions, thereby allowing only the passive movement of K SP + sp ions to be studied (Hodgkin & Keynes, [22]). This is never explicitly stated by Hodgkin and Keynes, and the reference to passive movements of K SP + sp ions may mislead readers to conclude that the K SP + sp ions move through the passive leak conductance pathway. This relationship is derived using the same ingenious manipulation of the 1st and 2nd laws of logarithms to exclude unknown terms that Hodgkin and Huxley applied to assess if the early inward current was carried by Na SP + sp ions (eqn, Hodgkin & Huxley, [14]). The advances in Industry 4.0 provide both challenges and opportunities for digital manufacturing and assembly systems. This paper first addresses the state-of-the-art readiness for Industry 4.0 concerning assembly and manufacturing systems through a literature review of the relevant papers recently published. Then it assesses the challenges faced nowadays by assembly and manufacturing systems. Third, it focuses on the most promising future developments and evolution of such production systems as well as their digitalisation. Finally, this manuscript illustrates the content of the papers selected for this special issue. Through the study presented in this special issue, valuable contributions to both theory and application in this area have been achieved, and a useful reference for future research is given. Drawing from the writings of Bakhtin and his Circle, in this paper we analyze on-line editorials published in Portuguese and in Spanish by the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and El País, during February 2020. By comparing productions of the same speech genre in different ethnolinguistic communities, we intend to broaden the understanding of the genre itself, of the functioning of the field in which it is inserted and of the way de addressee is represented, taking into account the specificities of the production, circulation and reception of utterances in digital media. Our analysis reveals a transition period in the journalistic field. In the newspapers compared, the editorials manifest the contradictions between different reading practices and try to incorporate, each one in its own way, the heterogeneity of the presumed reader. The special issue dedicated to events and sustainability is introduced here. We provide synopses of the papers, preceded by an introductory essay that examines how event studies has approached the relationship between events and sustainable development. Existing work too often assumes that sustainability means reducing negative environmental impacts with other aspects of the sustainability paradigm neglected. And whilst social issues have risen to prominence in events research generally, this work is usually considered outwith sustainability debates, and without considering environmental and economic interrelationships. We argue that event scholars should examine how events might contribute to sustainable development, rather than merely exploring how individual events could be made more sustainable. Accordingly, there needs to be further work addressing how events might change attitudes and behaviours by promoting sustainable lifestyles, communities and technologies. Following this discussion, we justify the focus on social sustainability in the special issue, clarify what this actually means, and question whether this is always the most appropriate way of framing research on the social impacts of events. Given the timing of the special issue, there is also a short review of how the coronavirus crisis affected the events sector, and what the implications might be for sustainability. This paper investigated newspaper editorial framing of the change in the date of the commemoration of Democracy Day. The study adopted framing analysis as its research method. Drawing from Van Dijk's (1992. "Discourse and the Denial of Racism." Discourse and Society 3 (1): 87–118) model of editorial analysis which focuses on Definition, Evaluation and Recommendation, this research interrogates newspaper's portrayal of the change of democracy day from 29 May to 12 June. To frame the issue, these newspaper editorials embarked on the remembering of the cancellation of 12 June elections. Based on the recollection of the past and the current events, these newspapers framed the shift in the date of the commemoration in contrastive ways, namely, as an attempt to rewrite the evil of the past and a spurious gesture. The study concluded by arguing that both media recollection of past and framing of current events were subjectively organised to achieve a specific goal. The implication of the study was discussed. This paper examines two highly elite prestigious American newspapers' editorials on Palestine and the Palestinian editorial position. These two newspapers echo the public opinion in the United States, which will help the Palestinian decision-makers draw suitable strategies that can affect international politics and revive public and international relations in Palestine. In addition to using the descriptive-analytical method, the researcher has used content analysis, a study of documents and Communication artifacts, or texts of various formats. She has compared the New York Times and the Christian Science Monitor editorials during two office terms of two American presidents: Barak Obama 2009-2010 and 2017-2018 (Donald Trump). The study used a purposive sample in the content analysis of 70 editorials which draw attention to the Palestinian issue, to describe how these two wellknown newspapers tackled the Palestinians through their coverage in their editorials by exploring the evolvement of meanings of some terms and words related to the topics through time, taking the first two years (2009, 2010, 2017, 2018) of each presidents' era respectively. A set of category and analysis has been used: Firstly; the issue categories – what was said in the editorial about the issue of the study and how it helped exploring the center of interest of the issue and " What terms and phrases related to the Palestinians that published in the editorials of The New York Times and the Christian Science Monitor within the last two American presidencies?. "Secondly, who says according to which sources for the second question." "What attitudes have been taken in the editorials of the two newspapers" and thirdly; How it was said: Positively or negatively? It’s found that the repetition of terms concerning the Palestinian issue in the New York Times is more than the Christian Monitor; also, the researcher noted that in both editorials, the repetition of terms concerning the Palestinian case is more in the period 2009-2010 which is the period of Obama's era. Second, she found that the attitudes in the editorials of the two newspapers are negative. Third, the two newspapers' editorial sources (New York Times and Christian Monitor) depended on speaking of the Palestinian issue within the last American presidencies. It was noted that there is a variety of sources that are used to cover the Palestinian issue. The use of Palestinian officials and Arab sources is low; Israeli officials' use is higher than Palestinian officials in both editorials in both periods except in the Christian Science Monitor between 2017-2018, the Palestinian officials are a bit higher, and the difference is small. It is concluded from discussing the three main categories (term repetition, attitude, and source) that both newspapers are biased in tackling the Palestinian issue on different levels and different periods, and it differs in both editorials. The most important recommendation is to build bridges with American mass media spontaneously, update them with information about the Palestinian reality on the one hand, and improve and survive storytelling about the Palestinian issue and the core factors related to Palestinian and Israeli conflict. The annual editorial of Phytocoenologia 2019 brings bittersweet news about plot-based vegetation classification. On the one hand, the editorial of our Special Issue "Classification Approaches" (issue 48(2)) reported noticeable gaps in several regions of the world. On the other hand, articles in recent Phytocoenologia reach more and more of these underrepresented regions and extend to previously rarely classified plant formations. Our last issues 48(1-4) included several papers applying vegetation classification to address a number of ecological and socio-economical questions. We highlight the classification of steppe vegetation in Pamir Alai and Tian-Shan Mountains in Middle Asia (Nowak et al. 2018, Phytocoenologia 48: 369-391) and acknowledge the authors with the Editor's Award 2018. Biological network figures are ubiquitous in the biology and medical literature. On the one hand, a good network figure can quickly provide information about the nature and degree of interactions between items and enable inferences about the reason for those interactions. On the other hand, good network figures are difficult to create. In this paper, we outline 10 simple rules for creating biological network figures for communication, from choosing layouts, to applying color or other channels to show attributes, to the use of layering and separation. Based on the theoretical framework of Textual-Interactive Grammar, this work discusses the recognition of a basically systematic linguistic unit in the field of the textual organization of language. Therefore, it investigates the Topic Organization in newspaper editorials of the state of São Paulo in 21st century, with the aim of evaluating if, in editorials, the internal structuring of minimal Topic Segments (SegTs), part of the Topic Organization, is configured as a systematic process, which can to be described according to a general rule of organization, or if is an essentially variable process. Using the method of topic analysis that enables the textual analysis based on the category of the discourse topic, the paper analyzes 25 editorials from newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo, and it shows that the minimal SegTs in the editorials are organized according with a single principle, that involves the potentially recursive combination of two units of intratopic organization - position and support, which allows arguing the text is highly regular, founded in own constitutive properties. Computational Psychopathology is an emerging discipline, which is based around the theoretical and mechanistic focus of explanatory psychopathology and computational psychiatry, and reflects the general move in psychiatric research away from whole disorders to component symptoms or transdiagnostic processes. In this Editorial , we present a brief summary of these disciplines and how they combine together to form a 'Computational Psychopathology', and present a brief possible taxonomy. We highlight the papers that form part of this Special Issue , along with their place in our putative taxonomy. This paper examines two highly elite prestigious American newspapers' editorials on Palestine and the Palestinian editorial position. These two newspapers echo the public opinion in the United States, which will help the Palestinian decision-makers draw suitable strategies that can affect international politics and revive public and international relations in Palestine. In addition to using the descriptive-analytical method, the researcher has used content analysis, a study of documents and Communication artifacts, or texts of various formats. She has compared the New York Times and the Christian Science Monitor editorials during two office terms of two American presidents: Barak Obama 2009-2010 and 2017-2018 (Donald Trump). The study used a purposive sample in the content analysis of 70 editorials which draw attention to the Palestinian issue, to describe how these two wellknown newspapers tackled the Palestinians through their coverage in their editorials by exploring the evolvement of meanings of some terms and words related to the topics through time, taking the first two years (2009, 2010, 2017, 2018) of each presidents' era respectively. A set of category and analysis has been used: Firstly; the issue categories – what was said in the editorial about the issue of the study and how it helped exploring the center of interest of the issue and " What terms and phrases related to the Palestinians that published in the editorials of The New York Times and the Christian Science Monitor within the last two American presidencies?. "Secondly, who says according to which sources for the second question." "What attitudes have been taken in the editorials of the two newspapers" and thirdly; How it was said: Positively or negatively? It’s found that the repetition of terms concerning the Palestinian issue in the New York Times is more than the Christian Monitor; also, the researcher noted that in both editorials, the repetition of terms concerning the Palestinian case is more in the period 2009-2010 which is the period of Obama's era. Second, she found that the attitudes in the editorials of the two newspapers are negative. New communication technologies have had a major impact on the newspaper press in China. They have lost readers and advertisers and have experienced economic difficulties. These have been more severe for the commercially-oriented newspapers than the official party papers. In response to the loss of advertising they have adopted three strategies. The first is internal reorganization. Editorial and business departments have been merged into sections charged with producing both newspaper content and advertising revenue and which have been set explicit revenue targets. The second has been a heavy stress on non-news gathering activities. These include trading favourable coverage for advertising and using the newspaper to develop other non-news businesses. Thirdly, journalists have been encouraged to adapt to business roles and undertake directly commercial tasks. These have included the sale of advertising space and, more indirectly, the exploitation of their professional contacts as leads for their business colleagues. These strategies have eroded, and sometimes completely removed, the firewall between the journalistic and business goals of the newspapers. This paper explores the ideological basis and argumentative strategies given by four Spanish newspaper editorials to a controversial religious event: Benedict XVI's visit to the United Kingdom in 2010. A hybrid method of Discourse Analysis and Text Linguistics is used to analyse the editorials: the former, explores macro-structural aspects of the argumentive strategy (Amossy, 2006, 2009) particularly the editorial's framing (Entman, 1993), while the latter, the microstructural aspects of textual cohesion (Halliday & Hasan, 1989). A marked ideological polarisation between El País and ABC, and a less partisan and clear-cut approach in La Vanguardia and El Periódico that offers differing interpretations have been observed in the treatment of papal visit and Catholic religion. Studies on the effects of leadership in occupational health psychology build on the assumption that leaders influence their followers' health and well-being. Although this assumption has received support, this introductory paper to a special issue of Work & Stress on leadership argues that a number of questions regarding leadership and follower health and well-being remain unanswered. We identify four issues that we argue warrant further attention. First, what is "good" leadership? Particular leadership types are associated with increases in employee performance, but since this will involve higher effort expenditure, adverse outcomes for employee health are to be expected. Although many types of leadership are associated with favourable outcomes, we still need to identify the leadership characteristics can be identified that account for these positive outcomes. Second, how can good leadership be promoted? There is a need to develop interventions that are effective in promoting desirable leadership styles. Third, what are the inter-mediate and long-term effects of leadership on follower health? Finally, we need to understand the boundary conditions for good leadership, including the resources available to leaders. Based on these considerations, we conclude that further research is needed to fully understand the effects of leadership on employee health and well-being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
